Tutoring Approach:

My training revolves around clarification, scepticism and individuality. All training is time managed to ensure the student gets the most out of their lessons. We begin with a clear set objective and make sure the student has in mind the goal of every exercise undertaken. Rather than teach a list of techniques, I actively engage all students to get the most out of their individual strengths and I encourage them to look critically at what will work best for them. I promote a self-coaching concept for more efficient skill retention.

Personal Description:
I have several years English teaching and GCSE examining experience following my degree and am currently teaching English/English at GCSE, A level and undergraduate level on a private basis. I have an MA in English which I passed with merit, and have recently embarked on a further Master's degree in Literature and Culture in 19th Century Literature and Culture.

Teaching Experience:

I originally taught A Level and GCSE English in FE colleges. Following this I started private tutoring in English at all ages and levels along with some basic Primary maths. More recently my work as an English Literature examiner has enhanced my understanding of student needs and of course the requirements of the GCSE exam syllabus. As I have been tutoring for some time now I am familiar with the varying requirements of all the major exam boards in GCSE and A level English Language and English Literature.

Tutoring Approach:

The greatest thing is seeing the student gain in confidence as their ability grows. One to one tuition enables the student to be honest about problems that are difficult to raise in the classroom at school or college. Consequently the tutor can focus on the individual needs of the student. This is the philosophy I adopt in tutoring. I am very conscientious, approachable and happy to adapt to the needs of the individual student , then watch them thrive.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly, cheerful person. Students get on well with me. They find me relaxed, patient and committed to their success. I am especially good at building up their confidence and helping them discover that they can in fact understand the subject and succeed in it.

Teaching Experience:

I've been teaching since 1969, both young people and adults; was head of a Secondary School; and have been tutoring privately since 2001.

Tutoring Approach:

I am passionate about helping students get the best from themselves. I approach each one as an individual, as if he or she were my only student. I design my tutoring around a student's specific needs and individual way of learning. I find that my unshakeable trust in their ability and potential allows a student to trust him or herself and gain the confidence to succeed in the subject area in which I am supporting them.

Personal Description:
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile.

I'm Chris, a Secondary English teacher based in Liverpool with experience of one-to-one tutoring. My main area of expertise is in English at KS3, GCSE and A-Level. I can help in the following areas:

- Basic literacy skills (reading and writing)
- Homework
- Exam preparation
- Revision skills
- Coursework/Controlled Assessment preparation

I can provide proof of ID, teaching qualifications, CRB and references as required.

Teaching Experience:

I have 8 years' experience in education ( one as a teaching assistant, one as a PGCE student and six as a teacher) of teaching English in both mixed and all-boys secondary schools in the Liverpool area. I currently work in a very academic, highly regarded school and teach the AQA specifications at A Level (Literature, spec A) and GCSE. I have tutored both boys and girls of varied ages and abilities during this time.

I have been an examiner for AQA for five years marking the English Language GCSE paper.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer a personalised approach to tutoring that is tailored to an individual's needs to ensure that they are suitably challenged and make progress. I feel that it is important to develop a positive rapport between teacher and student, so that they feel confident and encouraged to learn. I would consider myself to be patient, friendly, and adaptable.

I am happy to meet in person, either at your home or at an agreed upon venue (such as a public library) - whichever is convenient for you.

My hourly rate includes expenses for travel and all resources. I will also mark any written work/homework I set your child after each session and free of charge.

Please include details about your child's studies (texts studying, current topic in English at school, exam board, specific areas of weakness/development) as this will enable me to assess whether I am suitable or not to meet his or her needs much more quickly than via several emails.

Personal Description:
Master Degree in Applied Mathematics at University of Cambridge (Part III Tripos), focus: Theoretical Physics.

BSc Mathematics and Physics at University College London (UCL). Received 1st-Class Honours over all years.

Graduated 43/45 points in International Baccalaureate (IB) with 7s in (HL) Mathematics, Physics, Economics, (SL) Geography and English. Received 7 A* 1A 1B in IGCSE including above subjects.

4+ years of experience in University/Secondary (especially in A-levels) tutoring. Always highly recognised for excellent teaching and enjoyable lessons!

Teaching Experience:

4+ years of Tutoring experience on IB (International Baccalaureate) and A-level (HL) Mathematics and Physics. Encourage guided training on exercise problems and past papers. Have been highly known for excellent teaching, being clear and rigorous at appropriate levels. All students I've taught have highly positive reviews and enjoyed the lessons thoroughly, while finding themselves coming out with a solid understanding and appreciation of Maths and Physics.

Also I can provide insight if you are thinking of pursuing Mathematics or Physics in University, from "what is maths like in Uni?", to advices in different schools, how to apply and write personal statement, etc.

Tutoring Approach:

Most likely will conduct tutoring in a classroom in University Campus, unless specifically request otherwise. This gives easy access to whiteboard for clearer teaching.

Training in Maths and Physics requires a clear, solid, understanding of the key concepts and rigorous logic. The best approach towards Maths and Physics is to allow tutees to voice any possible doubts towards the subject and then clarify them while making it more solid. After that, consistent practice with real life problems and Past Paper questions, under guidance, will enable tutees to fully achieve their potential, ideally.

Finally, people achieve their best if they find something interesting. All my students so far have always find my teaching fun and enjoyable, making learning much more easy and effective! I believe this is the key to continued learning to maximise one's potentials.

- Interactive approach, clarifying doubts and questions towards subjects
- Able to phrase concepts and theories in clear and fun ways
- Work on past papers questions
- Tips and Advice for exams
- Solid training preparing skills that applies to any subject

Personal Description:
I'm a native Italian. I've been living in England for the last 7 years, I love languages and teaching. I studied Finance & Economy with foreign Languages ( English, French and German).
My professional ambition is to contribute to the promotion of Italian culture: teaching my native language is the way that suits me better in reaching this goal! :)
Either if you're planning a holiday to Italy, are simply passionate about the language or need to prepare for an exam, all my knowledge will be at your service! :) I'm also available for translating and interpreting.

Teaching Experience:

I come from a family of teachers! While I was in Italy I taught English to many people on a regular basis. Apart from that I have always taught English to foreign students ( it' around 11 years now! ):this has improved my deep understanding of grammar...so that common mistakes can be avoided.
I also taught Italian for 6 years now, I do translations for newspapers, magazines and books on a daily basis.
I have a broad field of experience in:
-Tourism
-Art & History
-Economy
-Finance
-Medicine

So if you're inspiring to learn or improve your language for your job, you've definitely come to the right place!

Last but not least, I will ensure whatever your level is you will be able to speak and understand the language as never before! I'm aiming to do that in the shortest time possible as your time is very important. :)

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to consider each student as unique and aim to understand their goals and ambitions as well as optimizing my teaching method to suit their individual needs.

I believe that an important part of learning a new language is to understand and embrace the culture as well.

I usually start my program with a short test to check "Your Learning Method" (this test is applied in the most famous and important schools of language all around the world)

Everybody is different! :) there are people who learn with games, others who learn just listening, others who love writing to remember and people who learn visualizing or listening to music.... Whichever your method is, let's learn with fun!

Each Student will benefit from a Personalized learning plan.

Personal Description:
I am a caring, creative and highly committed secondary school English teacher with over five years experience in teaching. I teach English Literature and English Language from KS3 to A Level. I have the ability to integrate humour, imagination and effective use of ICT to encourage a positive learning culture. I aim to inspire excellence in each and every pupil that I work with.

Teaching Experience:

August 2008 - June 2009: Rosshall Academy.
August 2012 - February 2013: Lagan College.
August 2013 - December 2013: Sperrin College.
January 2014 - June 2014: Campbell College.
August 2014 - June 2015: Lisnagarvey High.
August 2015- February 2016: Belfast Royal Academy.
February 2016 - July 2016: Carrickfergus Grammar.
August 2016 - present: Strathearn School, Belfast.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim as a tutor is to create a deep understanding and confidence in tackling exam questions. I firmly believe that it is essential to be comfortable with the basics of spelling, vocabulary, punctuation and structure before attempting more challenging aspects such as the analysis of linguistic features. My approach varies depending on the student's needs and learning style. My teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible. I start with topics the students are comfortable with and move, gradually, towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and homework to check understanding continually.

I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student's understanding and technique. I also give a lot of emphasis to some of the less obvious but vital skills such as stress management and logical thinking techniques. Where appropriate, I set and mark work and give students detailed feedback so that they can improve quickly.

Personal Description:
I am a 28 year old mum and I have a Master's Degree in English Studies/ English Linguistics, History and Economic Sciences. I graduated in 2010 in Germany. Born in Poland and growing up in Germany I am bilingual in Polish and German and also fluent in English since I have lived in Northern Ireland since 2007. I am very interested in languages and linguistics and would like to use this knowledge to help others, especially children.

Teaching Experience:

I used to give private English lessons to a student aged 11-12 in Germany when I was a student myself. Within weeks his grades started to improve and thus after a few months he did not need any more tutoring.
Apart from this one I do not have any teaching experience, however, I was an assistant manager in a restaurant in my previous job through which I gained a lot of confidence being in a leading/ teaching position.

Tutoring Approach:

Because of my own interest in languages and linguistics I would like to work as a language teacher and fascinate and inspire others to learn different languages or simply help them to improve their language skills. My personal background as well as my degree provide an excellent basis for this.

Personal Description:
Hi my name is Jake

I am an experienced photographer/videographer with many years of practice, I have a degree from Nottingham Trent University along with a video production company called Capture the Guru. Over the years I have worked in many different areas of both disciplines, finding myself specialising in architectural photography and music based videography.

I have in-depth knowledge in both practical skills and in the psychology of interpreting images and video, this allows me to not only teach you how to take and record quality material, along with how to work with it in post-production but to also consider how your work will be received.

However most importantly I want to take the interest that you have currently and give you the skills to truly produce material to be proud of, along with further instilling the enjoyment that is so important.

Teaching Experience:

I have not had much formal teaching experience as of yet, however I have taught a fair few people tricks in order for them to produce better snaps. Whilst I was studying me and a group of friends on the course banded together to help teach each other the parts we struggled with, I was always very apt with the technical side of photography and would teach the others how to used different forms of cameras and how to emulate specific styles that we were learning about.

Now however since working within video my colleague and me are constantly teaching each other new tricks whilst filming and editing.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is simple, to discover the level of enjoyment and enhance it. We can all become frustrated when the need to produce our ideas is limited by our current knowledge and when it comes to mediums like photography and videography a practical hands-on lesson far surpasses any online tutorial.

I am a very hand-on and location based teacher, Instead of giving you material to read I want to show you techniques, allow you to feel what it is like to be searching for an image you may not fully understand.

Personal Description:
I am a part time lecturer at Gray's working on the short courses programme. I teach on the Portfolio Building, Drawing and Mixed Media courses. I am shortly to have an exhibition at the Howden Park Centre in Livingston as part of a six month residency. I am Recent graduate of the Slade MFA program and I have been consistently exhibiting since, such as the Creekside open selected by Richard Deacon/Lisa Milroy, the BFA Futures at the Mall gallery, York College and the Zetta Hotel in London. I have also been establishing a drawing and painting workshop at Marymount International school and have given talks on my work and the benefits of doing an MA.

I came to Art in my 30's as a mature student via short courses. This form of education is a great way of developing artists through a different route than more traditional means while opening up opportunities to a diverse field of practitioners. I feel very passionate about education and how it has transformed my own life which has given me fantastic opportunities that I could never have thought of. I believe that art should be for all and that everyone has the potential to be a great artist.

My own work involves drawing from life through strict observation through the genre of still life in. I work in oil, watercolour and acrylic which continues into both portraits and landscapes. With these I explore the relationship between the hand and the eye, nature and culture, the raw and the cooked and how this dichotomy exists in the historical and contemporary art. For example I am interested in the Gesture of the hand in Velazquez, Titian and Tintoretto as apposed to established Renaissance painting which where drawn and then filled with colour. I see a mirror to this in more conceptual art such as Art and Language or Sol Le Witt compared to a gestural painters such as Philip Guston, Morandi or Joan Mitchell.

Teaching Experience:

Present- Gray's School of Art 'Foundation Portfolio Building/Plus'. Mixed Media and Drawing (Short Courses)

2016- Marymount International School, 'Drawing from a Personal Object' workshop, ongoing.

2015- Kingston University, MA presentation

Awards
2016 Aberdeen City Council Creative Funding
2016 BFA Futures Award- Finding the Future of Figurative Art
2015 The Desiree Prize for Painting
2015 Nominated for the Land Securities Studio Award
2015 The Bergman Residency, Taroudant, Morocco
2012 The AP Fitzpatrick Prize for Painting

Tutoring Approach:

I believe drawing to be at the basis of all work. I see having a firm grasp of drawing from life as a key skill behind any artistic endeavour.

My own skills include:

Drawing and painting. (Accurate measuring and proportion, perspective, colour and tone.)
Oil, acrylic and watercolour techniques, uses and preparation.
Extensive knowledge of grounds, substrates and supports.
Working with clay, wood and metal
Photography and documentation of work by with Photoshop and a DSLR
Bronze Casting
Current issues and developments in contemporary art
Developing ideas through practice and research into finished work.
Application and interview techniques including portfolio preparation.

Personal Description:
I am a confident, approachable and calm person, with an extent knowledge of the English Literature and Language curriculum, as well as the performing arts. I have a 2:1 degree from the University of Portsmouth in English and Drama, and now currently studying a MA degree in Shakespeare Studies. I have had many years experience in teaching and supporting children with the completion of coursework and homework, as well as providing help within classroom based lessons. I have volunteered at secondary schools, assisting within their english and drama departments, and now currently employed at at junior school as a teaching assistant.

Teaching Experience:

I have previous experience as a teaching assistant with KS2, KS3 and KS4 level English and Drama, within both junior and secondary schools.
I also have experience in leading KS2 to KS4 level drama outside of school hours.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that secondary school students should be independent, critical thinkers, being able to easily relate historical context to the English Literature curriculum. I would provide information and set small homework tasks that will give the student both historical contexts and a further understanding of the source discussed, enabling them to make a further connection with the author. This is one of the criteria's that examiners look for in GCSE English papers, so I hope to improve this skill.

I also hope to make the subject of English and Drama enjoyable, conducting assessments and learning through games. For subjects such as Shakespeare, I endeavour to use clips of performances and DVD's to help with the analysis of the language. I will also set small creative homework tasks, that make learning fun and creative.

My main approach for KS2 students would be to make English fun and creative, conducting games and exercises that will both entertain and educate.

Personal Description:
I enjoy teaching and have tutored at various universities across Europe. My day job is at the Department of Oncology, University of Oxford, where our team of clinicians, physicists, mathematicians, biologists and bio-chemists together develop strategies to fight cancer. I particularly enjoyed interacting with people at science festivals explaining them the potential benefits of medical imaging. I have presented scientific work at various international conferences and worked in over 5 clinical trials. In the past, I have also enjoyed working at the interface of business, science & technology while starting-up a boutique clinical research organisation.

Teaching Experience:

10/2011-04/2013: Co/supervised various student projects, Kings College London, UK

04/2008-04/2010: Senior Tutor and Invigilator, UCD, Ireland

09/2007-01/2008: Teaching Assistant, University of Strathclyde, UK
EEE department: Probability and stochastic process

Tutoring Approach:

The classes are individually tailored. The students tell me in advance which topic they want to learn. I prepare a few questions & solutions for the chosen topic to tutor during our joint session and encourage students to bring specific exercises to the table related to the chosen topic. At the end of the session, I try to point out the key points learned during our session.
Note: If you can form a group of 2-3 students (max), students share the cost of my hourly class. I offer 50% off on the first lesson.
