Personal Description:
I am a professional, dedicated and enthusiastic tutor with over 20 years experience, extremely quick at identifying student problem areas and devising the most efficient solutions, sometimes with budget or time constraints. Where necessary I focus on exam technique as I find many capable and knowledgeable students gain confidence (and marks!) once these skills are taught.

I am well-liked by my tutees who understand I want the very best outcome for them, and also that I appreciate they are under pressure to succeed, and my services are frequently recommended to siblings and friends.

Teaching Experience:

As well as many years continuous home-tutoring experience, I have taught in both state and private sectors since 1986; examples being Surrey College (Guildford), Horsell High School (Woking) and Farnborough College of Technology, and as recently as April 2013, the prestigious Seaford College in Petworth, W.Sussex.

I have a vast library of past examination papers in all my subjects at GCSE and GCE A level for Edexcel, AQA and OCR examining boards.

In addition I have some experience tutoring both common entrance and Baccalaureate Maths, Physics and Chemistry.

Tutoring Approach:

I appreciate that for most tutees private tuition represents a workload additional to both schoolwork and homework.

Therefore I aim to make tuition as interesting, interactive and productive as possible- whilst focusing on their objectives- usually a target examination grade. Experience has shown that students can expect learning progress with an experienced tutor such as myself to be without exaggeration, 2-4 times faster than could be made in a typical school classroom, whilst simultaneously gaining a fuller understanding of the topics covered.

Personal Description:
I have completed an LLB Law degree and have furthered this by undertaking a Legal Practice Course. I am currently working as a legal representative. In the past I have really enjoy working with young people and I feel that tutoring is something that is underrated and hugely beneficial to them. Due to working with young people in sports I have a full enhanced CRB check.

Teaching Experience:

At university I obtained a position as a Peer Assisted Learning coordinator and leader, which involved taking on a group of first years once a week in order to go over their notes, help them learn to study, revision and essay structuring techniques. This allowed students to have a different kind of learning environment to that of formalised education in which they were comfortable with practising work and asking questions. I very much enjoyed this and believe that it was highly beneficial to the students that attended.

Working at a local football centre I have been involved in several sporting/coaching projects for young people. This has allowed me to develop different teaching strategies related to different environments; these involve quick thinking and problem solving both skills which I deem to be essential when tutoring.

I have close links to a local secondary school and therefore am able to have access to valuable resources which will aid tutoring sessions.

I offer tutoring in GCSE and KS3 English, GCSE & KS3 Maths, GCSE PE and GCSE and A-Level Law.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that tutoring is a very important concept for some children. A lot of children benefit hugely from one to one information and reinforcement; and it may be a far more effective learning strategy for them. I think it is important to first gain an understanding of where a child's strengths and weaknesses lie, in order to focus on the areas which perhaps need improvement. I also value a child's input as they are good judges of what they feel they do well and what they may need help with. The tutoring sessions will move at a pace that the child is comfortable with, and help with homework and coursework will be available. For GCSE and A-Level tutoring if desired essay structuring and revision strategies can be discussed and learned, as these are often overlooked in schools.

I feel that tutoring outside of school may help improve a child's confidence within a school environment, be this in the work itself or in class discussions and for them as a person. It is not always easy for a child to speak up at school, and if they do not understand this may result in them falling behind. As a tutor I am able to reinforce school work at a pace more appropriate for the level of your child, and allow them to develop and learn in a way that is suitable and enjoyable for them.

Personal Description:
I am currently in the second year of my PhD at the University of York in the Archaeology Department. My research focuses on British defences and their historical, social and political contexts, in particular York and Hull's city walls from 1550 to 1700. My area of interest is primarily Britain but I have a broad knowledge of European history from the Medieval to modern times. During my education I have studied numerous periods, including Richard II, Medieval England, Early Modern Europe, 19th century German unification, World War I & II, the rise of the Nazis, Native Americans, Vichy France, the Italian Renaissance, the Cold War, English Civil War, Tudors and Stuarts, as well as other areas and periods through my own interest and study.

Teaching Experience:

I taught 15 first year undergraduates for a module within the Archaeology Department called History and Theory. This looked at the historical and theoretical contexts of archaeology and involved a large number of readings and assigned tasks devised by myself for the students, in conjunction with them producing two essays that I also graded. I also partook in an accredited teaching qualification from The Higher Education Academy. This involved producing a portfolio relating to my own teaching and participation in numerous workshops looking at the practical and theoretical aspects of academic teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

Having studied History through GCSE, A-Level, Undergraduate, Postgraduate and now with a PhD I feel that I know what a student requires. Primarily this includes the opportunity to foster their own ideas and thoughts that are then framed within an academic context, based upon independent judgement and application of reasoned arguments. A student must be able formulate this for themselves and not simply taught the "facts" or be spoon-fed information. From teaching at undergraduate level I feel it is important that students are able to challenge ideas but then also themselves then have their own viewpoints challenged. Without the student wanting to learn for themselves it is near impossible to achieve any results, so a large degree of independent learning is required.

Personal Description:
Juan is a rare artist with a great deal of intellect and an in depth understanding of piano, composition and music technology. He has been linked to what he describes as a "marvelous instrument: the piano" since the tender age of three. Eight years later, he made his fist concert appearance in his hometown Estancia Santa María de La Armonía. Ever since, he has been a regular performer throughout the theater halls of Argentina, the United States of America, and the United Kingdom.

Teaching Experience:

8 years of one to one tutoring.
I have prepared students for all ABRSM and Trinity College exams including GRADES and DIPLOMAS with 100% success rate.
I also train other teachers entering for Masters at RCM and RAM. I believe in a modern approach to music learning that's why I encourage my students to develop a their own taste for music. I also give my students the option of start making their own videos here in my studio where I have all the necessary equipment.

Tutoring Approach:

Juan believes that people connect to music at different times of their lives. As you watch him work, it is stunning to observe how he can be involved in the details and never lose sight of the big picture. His approach to piano pedagogy is very unique, one which simultaneously combines music technology, playing, reading and writing.

As a piano tutor, his greatest challenge is to instigate a hidden and deep rooted spark within each of his protégés. He believes that everyone should learn at their own pace, and accommodates this by providing tailored programmes. He has been very successful in preparing students for the ABRSM and Guildhall Trinity Exams.

Personal Description:
There are plenty of "tutors" who offer many different subjects over a wide age range. However, I only offer A-level or I.B. Diploma (or equivalent)in maths, physics and chemistry to students who are still at school. I keep to just this because (so I'm told) I'm very good at teaching these subjects at this level, and it's what I enjoy doing.

As well as teaching I have published four maths books, available in hard-copy and kindle versions. One at GCSE level, two at A-level, and one that can be used by both age groups. These have sold worldwide.

It should also be noted that I only tutor from my home. With the number of students I tutor travelling would not be practical. There are plenty of tutors that are cheaper than me and prepared to travel, but a look at their qualifications and experience might make you think twice about using them.

Teaching Experience:

I have qualifications from excellent UK universities in all the subjects that I offer, and I am a UK qualified teacher. However, I'm very proud of the fact that most of my classroom teaching has been done outside the UK. This means that I have taught in good, well resourced, schools, which are not afflicted by the malaise from which so many UK schools suffer, and where the academic expectations of the school, parents and students are high. In such schools one is able to concentrate on ones teaching, which is seldom the case in UK schools. This is why I am now a full-time tutor. I can devote my energies completely to teaching the subjects I enjoy. In this capacity I teach many more hours A-level than the vast majority of classroom teachers. In fact, I probably teach more A-level in each of my subjects than most school based teachers do.

As already mentioned, as well as teaching in England I`ve also taught in New Zealand, Germany and Italy. I`ve taught across the entire 11 to 18 age range and at all abilities from struggling 11 year old students to top set 18 year old students. I`ve taught in all-boys schools, all-girls schools, mixed schools, FE and sixth form colleges. This has been at schools that get good results!

As well as A-Level, I`ve taught IB Diploma: at both Standard and Higher Levels (also Mathematical Studies). This has been mainly maths, but also some physics and chemistry. I`ve given intensive revision courses in Standard Level Mathematics, and Higher Level Mathematics, which were very well received. I should also mention that IB Diploma is more demanding than A-level - on both the student and the teacher.

So, whether you need help with your chemistry, physics, or ANY area of maths, I`ve got recent experience teaching all of these. This has been across several exam boards: Edexcel, AQA and OCR.

Among the schools whose students I have recently tutored are: Dame Alice Owen`s School, Enfield County School, Enfield Grammar School, Highlands School, Hockerill Anglo-European College, Princess Helena College, Southgate School, St. Michael`s Catholic Grammar School, The Latymer School, The Royal Masonic School for Girls, and Woodhouse College.

Tutoring Approach:

I`m typically very informal and relaxed, which most students seem to appreciate.

When you come to me, you get to choose what you want help with. Unlike far too many tutors I won`t try to tell you what the lesson should be about, unless this is something you want me to do. In fact, some of my students have been known to ask for (and receive) help in maths, physics and chemistry, all in one session.

Personal Description:
I am a retired R&D Scientist, formerly with H.M. Government, where I was involved in a number of projects in the field of electronics and communications.
I am married to a teacher (who is qualified to B.A and PGSE, and is also a private tutor) and now successfully tutor maths and physics to GCSE and A-Level from home.

Teaching Experience:

I am a graduate of Queen Mary College, University of London where I obtained B.Sc (first class) and Ph.D. After getting my Ph.D. I worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow where, in addition to my research, I had a number of teaching duties, including lecturing to an M.Sc. course on digital processing.

I have been tutoring GCSE and A-level since 2006 and have achieved notable successes including A and A* grades.
I will be pleased to pass on names of referees to potential students.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the best results are obtained by kind, confidence-building one-to-one tuition so that lessons and homework can be tailored to the student's individual needs and speed.
I like to keep the lessons reasonably informal so that the student does not feel under undue pressure, but has time to acquire a deeper understanding of the subject. I reinforce the student's knowledge by working through examples, both from textbooks and from past papers.
I work very much as part of a team with my wife Sue, who tutors the younger students, while I concentrate on the GCSE and A level students. So while this listing is in my name, she will probably take over those in school year 4 to year 7. We do not tutor students below year 4.
Sorry, but we do not travel to students because we find it far more efficient for students to visit us at home, where we have all our reference material and teaching resources to hand.

Personal Description:
Born in Edinburgh, I was raised in India and then Africa, before returning to the UK. Having lived in London and South East England since then, our family moved to the Scottish Highlands in 2012, primarily to raise our children in a less chaotic and more natural environment. We've had no regrets at all...and our various dogs and cats are similarly happy with the move!

I have always been passionate about English, from the weekly spelling tests and grammar exercises of primary school to the privilege of being taught at A Level by Tolkien's grandson. His vibrant, interactive approach shaped my ongoing learning and fired my imagination. After leaving Edinburgh University with a Masters in English Language and Literature, I went on to take a TEFL qualification and used this when travelling abroad in Turkey and throughout the Caribbean. I am delighted that I continue to work in the area of EAL with overseas students in British schools, and that technology has allowed me to work with individuals in their home countries, via Skype.

My love of English directed my career, working first at the Royal Shakespeare Company before becoming an independent theatre producer in London, and a theatre advertising executive on accounts such as Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Cats' and Cameron Mackintosh's 'Les Miserables'.

In 2008, my partner and I began the home education of our two children at primary stage. It was both challenging and inspirational and the experiences and knowledge I gained during those years - not purely academic, but also the different ways and methods of learning, the different developmental stages of children, the different learning styles of children - continue to inform my present day tutoring.

While home educating, and with my love of theatre, I founded an educational theatre group, Active Arts, with Margo Gunn, a teacher and director at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London. We worked with a wide age range of home educated and mainstream school children, providing workshops on various Shakespeare plays including 'Midsummer Night's Dream', 'The Tempest' and 'Romeo & Juliet'. Workshops were also designed specifically in support of GCSE/IGCSE work. As passionate advocates of Shakespeare, our approach was active and energetic, lifting Shakespeare off the page and introducing his plays, his language and his theatricality in an engaging and tangible manner. I was thrilled to be able to resurrect this work in the Highlands, initially at a local primary school, conducting 4 workshops for Primary 4-Primary 7, resulting in workshop presentations of 'The Tempest' and 'Macbeth'.

Teaching Experience:

In addition to home educating my two children and running Active Arts, my personal and professional lives led me into private tutoring and I have been a private tutor in English Language and Literature since 2009, working alongside children and young people from age 5 upwards, whether on general literacy issues, EAL or focusing specifically on exam work, from SATS, Nationals and GCSEs, through to A Levels, Highers and beyond. Tutees have been those in mainstream state schools, leading UK private schools and home education, following the English and Scottish curriculums, as well as IGCSEs with providers including Cambridge, OOL and Edexcel.

A number of my tutees have challenges such as Autism, ADHD, Tourette's and dyslexia, and the combination of experience, research and support courses have built my knowledge and understanding in these areas.

While I am registered with tutoring agencies, many of my tutees come via personal recommendation and I was delighted that tutees I had worked with in England chose to continue working with me via Skype after our move to Scotland.

Critically, I am PVG checked, and would be happy to provide evidence of this, together with references and qualification documentation.

Tutoring Approach:

MAKING ENGLISH ACCESSIBLE
My approach is not one of 'dip in and out' for an hour, or 'one size fits all', but of creating a relaxed, enjoyable, constructive atmosphere and building a relationship within which the young person's potential can be maximised, against a tailored, individual approach. While texts and challenges might be shared by various tutees, learning styles, atmospheres for learning, methods for learning, will always be different.
As importantly, my approach places great value on the parents, their involvement and their right and need for clear, ongoing and comprehensive communication. As such, I am often in regular contact with both my tutees and their parents, should they require it, outside of tutorials.

"The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be ignited."
Plutarch

If you're looking for a desk-based tutor, one who does all the talking and expects your child to just sit and listen, I am not the right person for you.

If you're looking for someone to ignite a love of English, to build confidence, to be energetic, to make learning enjoyable, active, off the page, accessible, then, here I am!

MAKING ENGLISH ACCESSIBLE
For many young people with whom I work, English and everything to do with it - their texts, their homework, punctuation, close reading, writing an essay - is a minefield. Often, what holds them back is a mixture of low confidence, fear of getting it wrong, and simply not having grasped the 'map' of how to 'do it'.

One of my main motivations, is to make English accessible; to take away the fear factor, to provide clear and simple structures, to grasp some key exam techniques, to demystify the exam paper, to clarify what the heck the exam paper is testing them on; to remind tutees that they have, naturally, learned one of the most difficult languages in the world and are fully capable of expressing themselves on paper, under pressure and against time.

However whimsical it may sound, as with many things in life, self-belief and understanding are powerful tools for success.

MAKING ENGLISH ACCESSIBLE
The demand for private tutoring is growing exponentially. As The Telegraph reported in 2012, "more than a quarter of parents use private tutoring to supplement their children's education", spending "£6bn a year in the UK." A double page spread in Femail, February 2015, states research that almost 1 in 4 children are now privately tutored, with pupils at private schools almost twice as likely to have private tutoring than those from state schools. Whatever explanation there is for this rise, cost to parents remains an obvious barrier to its provision.

I am, of course, a 'business', but I also firmly believe that access to tutoring should be made as wide as possible; education is a right and not a privilege. As such, while I have a standard rate for 1-1 tutoring, I am also very happy to discuss your requirements with you and to look at options available, such as small group tutoring where the cost per head can be significantly reduced.

Please do take the opportunity of discussing your requirements with me, rather than potentially losing the opportunity of providing tutorial support for your child.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching experience in schools

I arrived in the UK in 2009 as a Foreign Language Assistant. I was teaching French in rural primary schools around Suffolk.

After my PGCE, I started working at Thomas Gainsborough School as a French teacher. I have taught primary school students at local primary schools (Wells Hall, Bures Primary School, Nayland Primary School) and pupils from Year 7 to Year 13. I have a very good knowledge of the GCSE and A-level exams.

I have also taught Spanish to students in Year 7, 8 and 9.

Other teaching experience (private tutoring)
-I have taught French to two mature students, for leisure. I was teaching them according to their needs: one student wanted to discuss the news and I was printing articles that we would study. I also helped this student taking care of paper work related to her house in France. My other student only wanted to practise the speaking, therefore we would speak in French for about one hour.

-I have taught French to two secondary school students who purely loved the French language. We would do games, grammar, speaking activities and we even made some crêpes!

Tutoring Approach:

I will tailor my lessons to your needs or the needs of your child. I can teach French to beginners, help with homework, re-explain what wasn't understood in the classroom, study novels or simply have a chat.

Personal Description:
Do you need to improve your English? I have been teaching English as a Foreign Language since May 2015 (one to one private tuition and teaching large teenage classes in an English language school in Hastings). I am a native English speaker and CELTA qualified (Cambridge Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults) English Language teacher. I love languages, culture and communication and I studied French for my BA Honours Degree. I really enjoy teaching and maintaining an excellent rapport with my students. I hold a current CRB certificate.

Teaching Experience:

I currently teach English as a Foreign Language to large groups of teenagers (aged 11-18) at Shane Global language school in Hastings. I also tutor on a one-to-one basis and I am available afternoons, evenings and weekends. I tutor all levels - beginners to advanced. I have taught a broad range of individuals of different nationalities and backgrounds. I am happy to teach children as well as adults. I have also worked for 1 1/2 years as a Teaching Assistant in a Primary School In London with Year 5 students (aged 9-10). I currently live in Broad Oak in Rye and I am happy to teach in and around this area and the Hastings and St. Leonards area.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed and friendly style with students, designing my lessons to match their learning style and pace. I prepare interesting, challenging and engaging lessons which give confidence to my students. I can help improve upon: speaking, listening, reading and writing, grammar, pronunciation and general English.

I prefer to meet (or Skype if you prefer) new one to one students before they commit to lessons with me, to discuss their learning requirements and goals. This meeting is free of charge.

Lessons can be on Skype, or in a cafe or quiet venue.

Personal Description:
I enjoy teaching and have tutored at various universities across Europe. My day job is at the Department of Oncology, University of Oxford, where our team of clinicians, physicists, mathematicians, biologists and bio-chemists together develop strategies to fight cancer. I particularly enjoyed interacting with people at science festivals explaining them the potential benefits of medical imaging. I have presented scientific work at various international conferences and worked in over 5 clinical trials. In the past, I have also enjoyed working at the interface of business, science & technology while starting-up a boutique clinical research organisation.

Teaching Experience:

10/2011-04/2013: Co/supervised various student projects, Kings College London, UK

04/2008-04/2010: Senior Tutor and Invigilator, UCD, Ireland
School of medicine: Designed and delivered 'Applied Research and Statistics' for 4th year Radiology, School of mathematics: Differential and Multivariate Calculus, Statistics, Matrices & Vectors

09/2007-01/2008: Teaching Assistant, University of Strathclyde, UK
EEE department: Probability and stochastic process

Tutoring Approach:

The classes are individually tailored. The students tell me in advance which topic they want to learn. I prepare a few questions & solutions for the chosen topic to tutor during our joint session and encourage students to bring specific exercises to the table related to the chosen topic. At the end of the session, I try to point out the key points learned during our session.
Note: If you can form a group of 2-3 students (max), students share the cost of my hourly class. I offer 50% off on the first lesson.

Personal Description:
Hello!

I have a vast knowledge regarding art practices as I have been working in a studio as an artist and in a few galleries in London and Paris.
However, I have chosen to write rather than practice. After a BA in Art History and Fine Art, I have specialised in Contemporary Art Theory because it is for me primordial to consider art within its context. I have studied sociology, philosophy and geopolitics during my Master.

Moreover, I was until recently a Gallery Manager for an art collector who was hosting private salons and exhibitions. I have left this position to make a greater use of my knowledge. I am currently looking for my next step in either art and cultural programming or documentary production. I am working on various projects in those two fields and recently funded an art collective called Agora Circle.

Lastly, I will be doing a PhD in visual culture in the coming years.

Teaching Experience:

4 years

I usually work with a maximum of five children and ten adults and have some experience in 1-1 tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:

I would create a structure that empowers you by assessing your level during the first introductory session. This will take the form of a discussion on your interests, methodology and needs.

Regarding younger students, I follow the parents' requests while adapting to the young person as I believe everyone learns differently.

I am happy to support you in your research or practice, introduce you to art, help you deepen your knowledge or assist you with school projects and exams.

Personal Description:
I am a chemistry teacher that has taught in a range of classroom environments. I have taught classes of 30 students and also taught students one to one in a classroom. I have experience teaching all the science subjects and will be able to enhance your studies no matter what curriculum you are using.

Skills test: I have passed and completed my skills tests for maths and literature this is required by all teachers.

Chemistry certificate: I have a chemistry certificate for subject knowledge enhancement from Canterbury Christ Church University, for A-Level chemistry.

University degrees: I have two degrees, one for my bachelors in integrated science. My second is a PGCE chemistry 11-18 degree for teaching. These were achieved at Canterbury Christ Church University.

Although not every private lesson can have an experiment. I do believe that even though the lessons are outside of a lab, there are still chances to learn from small experiments. I see this as a great opportunity for the students to see what they are learning. Students will also be able to put knowledge to practice, safely.

I have a lot of availability and I will work around what the student requires. I also work weekends and school holidays.

Tutoring Approach:

One thing that is extremely clear when working in a school, is that all students learn differently.
Everybody is a genius. But If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid ("Albert Einstein"). These are the lines I work from as a teacher and truly bespoke my lessons to the students I am teaching. The reason for this is to get the best possible outcome for the lesson and the student.

Personal Description:
I am a psychology teacher (head of department) and SEN support teacher (across gcse curriculum) with first class honours in psychology from Birkbeck university. I specialise in 1:1 and small group learning.
I teach all gcse and a level psychology topics as well as many undergraduate modules including research methods and critical analysis.
My tutoring can be an extension of what is currently being taught in class or independent study. I am able to provide worksheets and revision materials. Students will be required to provide any textbooks/revision guides for the syllabus they are studying. (At A level and above all students should have their own books).
I can also offer tuition in gcse maths and science specialising in foundation level (5-1 or C-G papers).
Whether you are a prospective student wanting to start your course with good subject knowlege, an AS student looking to progress to A level or a current student wanting to improve your grade - I can support you.

Teaching Experience:

Two years experience tutoring psychology at A level and gcse maths and science. One year experience as 1:1 SEN support teaching at gcse level across curriculum and teaching psychology at A level. Also, one year experience running the psychology department at a college.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim is to build confidence in my students - to help them develop their subject knowledge whilst teaching techniques for approaching exams effectively. I believe in a student centred approach, where the student is encouraged to learn for themselves under the guidance of the teacher.

SEN tuition: I can cater my teaching to the students individual needs. I have experience with a wide range of needs including autism friendly education. My aim is to break down learning into manageable chunks.
