Teaching Experience:

I have taught adults and children on a one-to-one basis, whilst studying at the University of Milan and tutoring adults in the UK as well as children from age 5 upwards.

Tutoring Approach:

An experiential approach with an emphasis on repeating key points and finding the learning style that best suits the individual. I will identify strengths and areas requiring improvement. Tuition is also tailored according to individual needs, for example, grammar for A level or GCSE or needing to improve the language to move abroad or games and exercises for children.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a private tutor since 2008.

Currently tutoring students in: 8+, 10+ & 11+ preparation (all four subjects); GCSE Maths.

Previously: English - KS1, KS2, 7+ (Successful entry to Highgate), 11+ (Successful entry to Haberdashers' Askes Boys, Trinity, City of London School for Boys, Alleyn's, St Alban's), A Level (A at A Level English and Extended English). Maths - KS1, KS2, 7+, 11+, GCSE (grade improved from D to A*). University application assistance (Successful entry to Durham and Oxford). English as a foreign language.

During my gap year I spent some time as a special needs classroom assistant, working closely with a child suffering with Asperger's Syndrome. This involved facilitating the social and academic change between primary and secondary education on a one-to-one basis.

Also at this time I ran Welsh language games sessions for primary children in non-first-language schools to improve and encourage their use of the language outside of the classroom environment.

Whilst at secondary school I taught reading skills to children who had low reading-ages.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is tailored to the individual's needs; firstly finding ways of fully explaining a concept, then cementing them with useful and memorable material to build students' confidence. My main objective would be to aid the student in understanding not only the specifics of the work but also the broader aspects of it, which I believe provides a truer grounding in - and enjoyment of - a subject. By making the work useful and enjoyable, and by finding alternative and effective approaches to study, I hope that my tuition will shed new light on subjects for students.

I particularly enjoy tutoring Maths GCSE, 11+ and 13+.

Teaching Experience:

I taught freelance for Bedford College for 4 years, and have been tutoring for 9 years. I have qualifications in adult teaching, and my coaching qualification also helps a lot.

Tutoring Approach:

Effective tutoring is a wonderful opportunity because I can tailor what I do very specifically for the student I'm working with, and that's as much about their personality and stress levels as it is about the material we're working with. I have taught as Lecturer at under-grad level in the department of mechanical engineering, UET Lahore for almost three years. In January 2007, I joined the department, as Lab Engineer and then promoted to the position of Lecturer after completing Master's degree in 2009. The university and the department claim top position in national ranking and also enjoy the honour of being the biggest and oldest ones in the country. My career of about two years here was full of struggle and effort for excellence in teaching and research.

As a language student I've done a lot of volunteering, mainly helping out in the younger years' language lessons at school doing oral and grammar work, but sometimes helping out my parents' friends' children in their preparation for GCSEs.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm very enthusiastic about foreign languages and have knowledge of French, Italian and some German. I strongly believe that the world is only as big as the languages you speak! I'm very flexible with when and where lessons take place, though weekday evenings and weekends work best for me. I have been teaching Latin in primary schools for two years as part of the 'Iris Project' which is designed to improve children's literacy through Latin. I have also been involved with a project called 'Ancient Languages in the Park' which teaches a variety of languages in open surroundings. Both these teaching experiences offer unique insights into teaching.

For my undergraduate degree I majored in Latin. As part of that degree I took a module specifically designed for Latin teachers. I have studied a variety of different teaching methods and I am passionate about finding the correct teaching approach for each individual student.

Tutoring Approach:

OFFERED APPROACHES

Each student learns differently and as such I offer a selection of approaches so that each student can get the most from their learning experience. Students can either decide how they want to learn or, through a free consultation, let me offer a suggestion depending on their goals and learning type.

Direct Approach

The direct approach is a grammar heavy approach which was commonly used until around 40 years ago when it fell out of fashion. This approach is once again making a comeback, especially since many native English speakers no longer know correct grammar.

In this approach you learn Latin through its grammar system whilst learning a great deal of English along the way. This method can be excellent for anyone who is still engaged in any form of study as it is certain to improve essay writing, verbal communication and article reading speeds.

The Reading Approach

This approach introduces students directly to a piece of text (primarily adapted) and allows them to begin translating right away. Grammar takes a back seat and is learned as it becomes necessary. Students of the reading method typically learn the language more slowly but are introduced to a wider array of literature and classical culture.

An MFL Approach

The 'Modern Foreign Language' approach is very popular at the moment especially when teaching children. It approaches Latin through puzzles, games, worksheets, texts and even songs. This approach to Latin teaching is incredibly new and I am pleased to be involve with the research aspect of it for 'Swansea University'.

This is a perfect approach for anyone, adult or child, that wants to Latin in a fun and intuitive way. You will not find this method being taught anywhere else online for adults.

Which Approach?

Each student is given a free, thirty minute lesson in which we can look at examples from the three different approaches and decide on the correct one for that student.

Teaching Experience:

I have formal teaching experience as I have been giving the tutorial lectures at Loughborough University to engineering undergraduates and also I have tutored the physics and mathematics to number of GCSE and A-levels students.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching approach is to create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in which students feel more confident to raise questions. I like to listen to my students being at their level to address and identify the basic difficulties that they face in understanding the subjects. I try to involve the students in problem solving and present the subjects in an interesting manner with the help of useful hints that are often helpful to provoke the original thought in order to improve their analytical skills. I find myself committed and patient and I believe that such teaching skills make me ideal for tutoring. I often highlight the practical implications of the subjects where possible so that the students could relate the subjects to their future careers. I would be willing to concentrate on the specific areas that the student requests. The focus of my approach is to prepare the students for the exams by developing the analytical thinking in order to solve the problems. The deeper understanding of the mathematical sciences could only be achieved through the intensive practice.

I have 30 years teaching experience both in the UK and overseas. I feel it's important to understand a students learning style and adjust lesson materials to suit that style whilst setting purposeful, realistic and attainable goals.

I enjoy teaching and deem it a privilege to have a share in helping others reach their aspirations.

Teaching Experience:

Between 1992 & 2010 I lived and taught in Hong Kong to a variety of students from Chinese medium of instruction (CMI), English medium of instruction (EMI) and International schools to help them develop the four English language skills. Assistance was given to help students progress towards their HKCEE (GCSE equivalent)and `A` levels, and in recent years the IB diploma, IGCSE's, and HKDSE.

Topics used in the lessons cover many of disciplines in the school curriculum, including, History, Geography, Economics, Biology, English Literature. Further guidance was given to help students prepare for exams, such as, Cambridge`s KET and PET; the SAT; and IELTS exams and common apps for HE.

In the past six years I have been tutoring students in the UK to prepare them for the 11+ and 13+ entrance exams; teaching students at KS3, GCSE and A levels. Additionally, I am currently helping students with their dissertations for their chosen degrees, and proofreading BA, MA, and PHD papers prior to submission.

Furthermore, for the past two years, I have been involved in intervention teaching, which involves identifying learning styles and other factors that inhibit a student`s progress, and then devise strategies to engage the student in learning, to identify and then support their current learning needs.

- a learning survey - it's good fun and gives the child/student a really useful exercise in self-reflection

- we ask that a parent/teacher is involved for the duration of this first session to provide their own reflections on the learning profile of the child

I am a studious and hardworking student currently in Year 12. I currently work at the local KUMON maths and English centre. I work a few hours each week and my job involves giving students guidance on how to complete maths and English problems. My specialty is maths and I am one of the most advanced mathematicians in the tutoring staff. I have privately tutored my sister in maths in preparation for the 11+ and now that she is in year 7, I continue to assist her with mathematics and the other subjects which she is taking.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring will be tailored to the needs of individuals. For example, a student who is highly capable will take a more laid back approach in which I will try to get the student to work out mathematical concepts, or physical concepts on their own. However, if a student is struggling with a particular topic, then I will take a more guiding role and assist the student in a more direct way.

Fortunately, I have received a huge amount of information regarding exam technique; I know all of the tricks which come up in Maths Exams having completed a huge amount of past papers. In addition, I can teach study skills to help my students achieve the very best results available.

I believe that my job as a tutor is not to force principles on students as law, but for them to understand how the principles have been derived. If you can understand where something has come from, it makes it much easier to remember and apply when it comes to an exam.

Evidence suggests that teaching is much more effective when a student can connect with their teacher. Thus, I believe that I would be an ideal tutor because I will be more able to empathise with the student. Moreover, since I am still in full time education, my hours will closely align to students and I will be available at all times online in order to assist with any difficulties a student is facing.
