Personal Description:
I have lived in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in the United Kingdom since December 2009. I am originally from Kumamoto, where I completed a training course at the EII Japanese Language Centre. I have now been teaching Japanese to students of all levels for nearly ten years.

Teaching Experience:

I started teaching Japanese in Kumamoto, Japan 10 years ago. I teach both children and adults and from absolute beginners to advanced level students. After moving to England I've been teaching from my home.

I also have 8 years experience of teaching online using Skype and an interactive whiteboard for students all over the world. I have worked for a major Japanese online school for 2 years.

I have taught students who aim to take the JLPT exam, the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (from the1st to 5th grade), and who are studying for The Duke of Edinburgh award.

I have also helped business people who are planning to work for Japanese companies.

My lesson fees are as follows:

Face-to-face lessons

Private Lessons : 25 for a one hour individual lesson (at my home)

Group Lessons
2 people : 20 per person for a one hour lesson (at my home)
3 or more people : Please enquire about availability (at a public venue)
3 people : 18 per person for a one hour lesson
4-5 people : 15 per person for a one hour lesson
6-8 people : 13 per person for a one hour lesson

You can take group lessons with your friends or family members. Discounted lesson rates are available if you can collect a group of between 2 and 8 people.

Online lessons

Private lessons :
20 for a 50 minute individual lesson
25 for a 60 minute individual lesson

Group Lessons
2 people : 18 per person for a 50 minute lesson / 20 per person for a 60 minute lesson
3-5 people : 15 per person for a 50 minute lesson / 17 per person for a 60 minute lesson
6-8 people : 13 per person for a 50 minute lesson / 15 per person for a 60 minute lesson

Tutoring Approach:

I begin by introducing essential sentence patterns and teaching how to use them in practise conversations. I use role-play to make the conversations real and teach how to speak Japanese naturally. You will soon realise my lessons are completely different from normal language studies at school and find that my method is both practical and effective.

Personal Description:
I am a 31 year-old prize-winning Masters graduate in Mathematics from Oxford University, and I also hold Top Candidate Notifications for my performances in A-level maths and further maths, and another such notification for my performance in GCSE Statistics. I am in my eighth year of tutoring full-time.

I offer tuition in mathematics at each of the following levels: KS3/GCSE/AS/A2/AEA/MAT/Oxbridge Interview Practice/STEP. I have a CRB Enhanced Disclosure.

Teaching Experience:

I have seven full years experience as a full-time private tutor. My role addresses the pitfalls of a mainstream education by truly individualising it, and is perfected through thousands of hours of experience of striving to achieve precisely that. My thirst for knowledge has allowed me to develop a true understanding of mathematical concepts: I have frequently played the role of the consultant throughout my mathematical career, have been able to help my peers and students avoid the pitfalls usually associated with difficult ideas and am able to explain things from numerous angles.

Tutoring Approach:

Traversing the mathematical landscape is an art; it can be a very uncomfortable environment for some. I find it so important to make my students feel at ease and to find confidence in their maths and so important to be friendly and patient. I am not a suited, booted assessor, nor old-school, to be frank! The feedback I've received indicates that I am very successful in creating a supportive atmosphere that encourages discussion, openness and good effort.

As well as engaging with students in this manner, my aim as a maths tutor is to get my students to 'think mathematically'; to uncover the inherent simplicity in methods and concepts and to truly understand what is being worked with. It is my business to focus thought, prevent confusion and stimulate the development of good ideas. I employ illuminating explanations and navigate sticking points, and as a result maths should be considerably easier to handle under my guidance.

As well as offering support for those with difficulties or specific grade aspirations at standard levels, I can also challenge the very able as intensely as they could hope for, introducing them to the mindset, rigour and practise required for the more challenging AEA and STEP papers. At university I was lucky enough to find myself one to whom others turned with maths troubles: I have been depended on to explain advanced maths effectively for years. I am sure this accounts for two more areas of particularly positive feedback I've received as a tutor: in explaining concepts and in effectively dealing with problems as they arise.

I provide tuition either at my home in central Cheltenham, or at the homes of students within a 30-mile radius of it (dependent on particular location).

I am here to provide a complete teaching experience that in addition to ironing out difficulties and providing excellent exam preparation as matter of course, at no extra effort on the part of the student introduces them to the thought processes and insights of the professional mathematician. I have the STRONGEST sense of duty of care to my students and want every one who I work with to exceed their own expectations and the expectations of others and to walk away feeling truly proud of their achievements.

************** "Outstanding Contribution to Student Tutoring" Award ***************

I was 1 of 5 students to receive the Warwick Volunteers Award in 2015 out of over 2000 volunteers.
I received the following nomination from one of the teachers at The Westwood Academy:

"I would like to nominate Karishma as an outstanding volunteer. She has worked at the school over the last three years with our sixth form students. Karishma has worked in class as a support for the teacher, in small groups and one to one. Her mathematical ability is excellent but this does not stop her making it accessible to weaker students and inspires them to study mathematics at university. She has been an invaluable asset to our department over the periods of time that she has worked with us. The pupils find her approachable and are not afraid to ask her questions. Karishma makes all pupils feel they are able to achieve in mathematics at A level. The impact of Karishma's work with us has been enormous and students have not been able to achieve the grades they have without her support."

********************************************************************************************

1) Peer-Tutor at the Warwick Mathematics Institute: (Term 1 of the 2014/15 academic year)

I was hired as a peer-tutor for the analysis classes that run during term 1 for the first year Warwick maths students. This role helped me to lay out my mathematics in a presentable, easy to follow format and gained me a deeper understanding of the subject.

2) Maths Tutor at the Warwick Widening Participation Scheme: (October 2014 until June 2015)

I was hired as a maths tutor for two A-level students as part of a "widening participation" scheme by Warwick University, aimed at enabling students from disadvantaged backgrounds to succeed in higher education.

3) Maths Student Tutoring (Warwick Volunteers): (Jan 2013 until June 2015)

Throughout my degree at Warwick, I volunteered at The Westwood Academy school and its sixth form. I started out with helping the secondary school students and then I was given the opportunity to assist the sixth form students with their A-Level maths. I won an award for my work with the A-level students (see above).

4) Registered Maths tutor with "UK tutors": (December 2012 until Present)

5) Maths Mentor at Farnborough Sixth Form College: (September 2011 until May 2012)

During my second year at Farnborough Sixth Form College, I was appointed as a maths workshop mentor. My role involved mentoring A-Level students and assisting them with their difficulties in all mathematics modules.

Tutoring Approach:

In general students come up to me with a list of questions that they are stuck on and we work through them together. However, if a student is completely stuck on a topic, then I am also able to explain it from scratch. It would be helpful if the student could inform me which topics they are stuck on in advance so that I have time to prepare some material for it.

Personal Description:
I am a studious and hardworking student currently in Year 12. I am undertaking 5 A Level Subjects; Maths, Further Maths, Economics, History and Physics and attend Sir Thomas Rich's Grammar School in Gloucester. My hobbies include music (in which I play Baritone, Piano, Saxophone and some percussion), basketball and snooker.

I am academically minded and came out of GCSE's with all A*'s. In the future, I am looking to study economics at University in the United States.

Teaching Experience:

I currently work at the local KUMON maths and English centre. I work a few hours each week and my job involves giving students guidance on how to complete maths and English problems. My specialty is maths and I am one of the most advanced mathematicians in the tutoring staff. I have privately tutored my sister in maths in preparation for the 11+ and now that she is in year 7, I continue to assist her with mathematics and the other subjects which she is taking.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring will be tailored to the needs of individuals. For example, a student who is highly capable will take a more laid back approach in which I will try to get the student to work out mathematical concepts, or physical concepts on their own. However, if a student is struggling with a particular topic, then I will take a more guiding role and assist the student in a more direct way.

Fortunately, I have received a huge amount of information regarding exam technique; I know all of the tricks which come up in Maths Exams having completed a huge amount of past papers. In addition, I can teach study skills to help my students achieve the very best results available.

I believe that my job as a tutor is not to force principles on students as law, but for them to understand how the principles have been derived. If you can understand where something has come from, it makes it much easier to remember and apply when it comes to an exam.

Evidence suggests that teaching is much more effective when a student can connect with their teacher. Thus, I believe that I would be an ideal tutor because I will be more able to empathise with the student. Moreover, since I am still in full time education, my hours will closely align to students and I will be available at all times online in order to assist with any difficulties a student is facing.

Personal Description:
I am a 45 year old lady residing in Ashford, Kent. I originally come from Africa and have been in England for 10 years now. I trained as a primary school teacher but resigned after 16 years mainly because I wanted to travel and broaden my experiences. My hobbies are reading and writing (for leisure), travelling and sightseeing, aerobics and swimming. I could however easily call teaching one of my hobbies because I always find myself teaching people wherever I go!

Teaching Experience:

I was a primary school teacher for 16 years but I also did private tutoring as a sideline. I taught English to the age group 9-10years and outside working hours I taught adult literacy classes. I think I did well because I always found myself with so many private students to teach that sometimes it was hard to cope . All the same I enjoyed every minute of it. I have also recently qualified as an EFL teacher and am hoping to start soon.

Tutoring Approach:

When I meet a student for the first time I always believe in taking time to know them. By this I mean their well being and /or state of mind. For example, if a student has come to class only because someone has insisted, then learning will be a chore. Or if they have personal problems, or they are hungry, tired or ill then we will not get very far. So I will take a few minutes to chat and get to know their state of mind as well as reassure them before we start and if there is anything I can do to settle them then that is what I will do first. I am saying this with a view to teaching adults because that is what I hope to do. I also believe in teaching in a very relaxed environment that is conducive to learning so I always try and get rid of all distractions before we start. I have been known to be a good teacher and I hope I will continue with my good style and reputation.

Personal Description:
I am a professional educator with a wealth of experience in a wide variety of teaching environments. I've taught in schools (Primary and Secondary) around Hampshire covering almost all the curriculum, been a private tutor for a wealthy family in the Middle East, and helped local students improve their GCSE and A-Level grades.

I trained in Physics and have a Masters degree in Physics with Space Science and Technology from the university of Leicester. I now teach Physics and Mathematics at a variety of levels in Gosport and offer local tuition.

Presently, my circumstances make it difficult to offer tuition, and can only accommodate students coming to my home in Gosport.

Teaching Experience:

I qualified as a teacher in 2009 and took up a post in a 11-18 state comprehensive. Here I taught Science at Key Stage 3 and specialised in Physics at Key Stages 4 and 5. After I moved to the south coast I spent 6 months supplying at various schools in Hampshire. This opened my eyes to the full range of skills a good educator should have. I honestly feel my teaching skills were vastly enriched by teaching in a variety of environments in many different subjects.
From March 2011 I was hired by a prestigious tutoring agency based in Oxford to work for a wealthy client and their two sons in the Middle East. This consisted of after-school tutoring 5 evenings a week in a variety of subjects.
Now back in the UK I teach in an Engineering Academy run to train Network Rail Apprentices. I tutor in the evenings from 11+ entrance exam students to those sitting their A2 exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I truly believe that every child is born a genius, with the ability to grasp everything that is put in front of them. From that point on, society, parents, and peers all put barriers in our minds. It is my goal to see that these barriers are destroyed. Learning is done by the student rather than teaching done by the teacher. A teacher can teach a dog to whistle, it doesn't meant the dog will learn.

A tutor is merely a resource. Just like a book, or an expensive laptop. Achieving the optimal results requires a holistic approach to education. I tend to work heavily with educational psychology theory and pinpoint the exact pieces of the puzzle far beneath the surface that allow the bigger picture to be seen. I teach my tutees to look at examinations in a way they may have never seen them before, allowing them to reduce the anxiety and be truly confident in themselves.

The content of subject matter often comes second to learning technique. How people learn differs between individuals. There can never be one set way to solve a problem so I offer various routes and pin point techniques that can be beneficial.

I have tutored a number of students in both Geography and Maths and helped them to achieve results that exceeded their expectations.

EFL Teacher (2007-2008)
After completing my undergraduate I took a CELTA course to teach English as a foreign language. I lived in Vietnam for a year where I was employed as a full-time EFL teacher. I taught young learners between the ages of 6 and 18. These were further broken up into 3 different age groups and 7 different ability levels. I have also taught English to adults at a number of summer schools.

Tutoring Approach:

I think that it is really important to plan the tuition sessions to fit the needs of my individual student and I am committed the achievement of every student that I tutor. Working as a teacher in a 11-18 Secondary School means that I have access to a wealth of teaching resources and I am constantly learning new techniques to bring the best out of my students. I also work as an examiner for the Edexcel exam board with gives me a valuable insight into the exam expectation. I have been particularly successful when using past papers to help identify areas for improvement and I use a range of strategies to improve exam technique so that students are able to achieve to their full potential. My most recent turee achieved an A* in his geography GCSE which was a significant boost from his school's predicted target of a C grade. He has also chosen to continue his studies to A level after developing a love for the subject.

Personal Description:
I am an Italian engineer who lives in London. I am currently working as an actor which is my passion but I want to make proper use of my solid background in engineering and my experience as a student in many different institutions around Europe by giving private tutorials to students. I am a very determined and ambitious person and I believe that many things can be achieved with strong will and the right tactics. As you can see from my CV which follows, I successfully studied in Iceland, Norway and England. I studied and worked with people from all over the world and with the most different cultural backgrounds. I myself am very interested and respectful of cultural differences and I am an expert traveller: I travelled extensively through Europe, Africa, India and Japan. What's more I have a degree in acting (2.1) from a very well reputed English academy in Birmingham (Birmingham School of Acting). I can speak English fluently and I have got a very good grasp of the language (in drama school we studied pronunciation for 3 years) and a very rich and flexible vocabulary. I enjoy staying with people and I like challenges. I take my responsibilities very seriously and I aspire to create a healthy working environment where the prime goal is the students' benefit.

Teaching Experience:

- Since I`ve been in London I have taught Italian to an English couple who have travelled to Italy many times, are really fond of the culture but have never got down to learning the language. I`ve also taught a Japanese woman who lives in the City and has working relationships with Italy. References available on request.

Moreover, I have tutored a 17 year old student form East Dulwich to prepare for and successfully pass his A-Level Maths exams. Reference available on request.

- In 2008 I worked as a teaching assistant in a kindergarten in Reykjavk for 8 months. This kindergarten had a special program of integration between kids with special needs (especially hearing impaired ones) and kids with no special requirements, which showed to be very successful. Besides assisting the teachers in taking care of the children daily, I was responsible of having a short weekly session to introduce children to English as a foreign language through playing and singing, which turned out to be very appreciated and great fun.

February - September 2008 Reykjavk, Iceland.
Teaching Assistant at the kindergarten "Slborg".

- During my years at university I continuously gave private tutorials of Maths and Physics to students of all ages from primary school to university level.

September 2000 - Fall 2007 Bologna, Italy.
Tutor of Maths, Physics and English to students from elementary school, high school and university.

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching is, without any doubt, one of the most important jobs ever. This might sound a cliche but it is what I really think. With almost 30 years spent as a student to gain two university degrees, I have encountered teachers form all over the world and experienced the most different teaching methods. A teacher can make the difference in a persons life, in a good or in a bad way. A good teacher can be a source of inspiration and can make you love a subject that you would have never imagined you could like otherwise. When teaching the student's benefit is the prime goal, this means that the teacher has to be able to understand what the student needs to access a specific subject, understand it, retain the information and be able to reuse it proactively whenever it is required of him. Since, as a private tutor, I work one on one with a student, I aim at creating a healthy and effective relation where the student feels comfortable to express what he/she doesn't understand and he/she can develop a positive attitude towards learning the subject under examination. Every student is unique, therefore the method used for each student is different. I plan to have a first session where I can assess what it is required of me and whether I am able to constructively interact with the student and then build a teaching program from that. I will commit to plan every session at home and come prepared to teach what is needed and I will expect that the student commits to doing his/her best to do his/her reading and homework.
