Personal Description:
A full member of the Tutors Association, I have much tuition, coaching, lecturing and training experience; both one-to-one and in groups.
Holding several relevant academic qualifications (including a degree in Maths & Physics), I am also a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Scientist, and full Corporate Member of the Institute of Physics.
During my career, I have held several senior management positions within several British based companies.
Having a fundamental love of virtually all things mathematical and scientific, I very much enjoy passing on that enthusiasm & knowledge to 'A' Level students, with the aim of enhancing their confidence and skills, & boosting subsequent examination performance.
I hold full and current enhanced DBS accreditation.

Teaching Experience:

I have been offering 'A' Level tuition in Maths & Engineering since 1997
The vast majority of students with whom I have worked have either achieved, or surpassed, their target grades.
During the last academic year (2015/2016)) I was pleased to work regularly (typically weekly) with thirteen 'A' Level Maths students (from Bude, Holsworthy, Launceston, Exeter and Barnstaple), one student studying Electrical Engineering at Cardiff University, and one studying Maths with the Open University.

Tutoring Approach:

Being an active participant in, and supporter of, the whole education process, I have also held a four year LEA Governorship at a school in mid-Devon.
My approach to tutoring is, first of all, to talk openly with any potential student (ideally with parent or guardian present) in order to find out what is required, the problems, issues etc.
I treat all students as adults, and do not patronise or talk down to them, ie I treat each one as a mature individual. My aim is to work closely with each student, in the way that best suits him/her, in order to empower him/her with higher levels of knowledge and ability. The result being that their confidence and skill levels increase to those necessary to achieve the best possible exam grades. I encourage my students to actively participate in the tutoring process; to challenge, and to ask questions and discuss all aspects of the work content.
I coach all my students in exam techniques, with emphasis on layout, showing working, best use of time etc.
Last, but certainly not least, I believe it to be of fundamental importance to work with all my students in complete confidence; before, during and after any tutoring involvement.

Personal Description:
I have a PhD in mathematical physics and started tutoring while at university.
I have been a full-time professional tutor for over seven years and I teach maths and all science subjects from year 8 up to GCSE and for Common Entrance and Maths, Further maths, Physics and Chemistry to A-level.
I am an exam marker for the OCR exam board and I mark controlled assessments at a school in Ipswich.

Teaching Experience:

I initially started tutoring at university while I was doing my PhD and found that I had the ability to help pupils understand the underlying concepts of maths and physics. Instead of just giving my tutees the answers to questions, I always tried to provide interesting examples of the principles behind the topics being studied in order to give a deeper understanding of the subject.
I worked in IT for many years and started tutoring again after helping my daughters with their GCSEs and A-levels.
I have been a full-time tutor for over seven years. I have taught pupils from a wide variety of schools - including state, independent and boarding schools.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to ensure that my students have a good understanding of the underlying principles of the subjects. This ensures they can deal with a great variety of exam questions and enables them to get the best result possible.
I am patient and helpful and believe I have a good understanding of young people and how they learn and study.

Personal Description:
Hi I'm Heather!

I'm from London and my favourite colour is green.

I hold a First Class Degree in English Literature and Drama from Manchester University. I am also a trained actress.

I've been tutoring for over 5 years, working with students aged 6 years, up to 18, supporting them through KS1-4, GCSE and A'Level/IB curricula. I have also taught English as a foreign language. The content of my tutorials is entirely student- led; i.e I work towards the individual's goals and learning styles. I am experienced in the teaching of essay writing, exam preparation and textual analysis/understanding. The most important thing I can do as a tutor is to empower the student to feel confident in their own abilities and thoughts.

I have worked with students of A Level and GCSE in a diverse range of texts including Victorian Gothic literature, the American Novel, pre and post 1900 poetry, modern drama and theatre studies, post -colonial literature, dystopian literature. All of my students have achieved their personal desired A-C grades, and gained acceptance into the university of their choice.

I have 2 years experience of home schooling Key Stage 2 and 3 literacy and numeracy, with an excellent overview of the curriculum and a variety of techniques to engage different learners. I have worked closely with young learners with dyslexia and Asperger's syndrome.

I also teach drama school audition preparation, public speaking skills and methods of overcoming academic anxiety. I h

Do get in touch if you have any questions!

Heather

Teaching Experience:

-5years as a private tutor
-Assistant Tutor; Kumon Maths (Hampstead Branch)
-6 months as a Teaching Assistant (SEN) ; Carlton Primary School
-2 months as a 1-1 learning and care assistant to a young child with non-verbal cerebral palsy
-On-going voluntary work as a drama wokshop facilitator, (and Hackney Shed Inclusive Theatre Company) both a university and drama school
-TEFL introductory course- Cambridge
-Creative writing teacher training with The Ministry of Stories
-Drama facilitator, Hackney Shed Theatre Company

Tutoring Approach:

I believe tutoring should be a dialogue, not a dictatorship. Each lesson would be highly organized to cater for the requirements and ability level of the individual student. I plan all sessions to include a range of discussion, demonstration, exercises, review of work and homework tasks if required. Crucial to my teaching approach is an easy, flexible engagement with the individual- working to their learning style and objectives, and encouraging the pupil to draw out their own understandings rather than enforce rote learning.

Areas of expertise include: Literature Romantic poetry, contemporary poetry, the dystopian novel, the Gothic novel, WWI literature, post-colonial literature, the early novel, Shakespeare, dramatic writing, film studies. History- Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, Russia from Revolution through to the cold war. Apartheid in South Africa, the Suffragette movement, the history of British Education, Chartism. Theatre- Greek theatre, Kabuki, German Expressionism, Melodrama, Realism, Naturalism, Absurdism, post 1950s British drama, contemporary theatre

Personal Description:
I consider myself as an ambassador of Italian culture and language and I strongly believe that studying a foreign language is an incredibly enriching experience that can really widen and improve your world. I started learning languages when I was six and I will probably never stop.
In my spare time I love reading, watching movies and going to farmers' markets.

Teaching Experience:

I started teaching Italian as a foreign language while studying languages and literatures at university. I kept teaching part-time for 3 years to students of various ages and levels until I graduated.
I then pursued a career in advertising: I worked as copywriter and trainer of new employees for 6 years. I had the opportunity to train new colleagues from all over Europe. I loved training so much that I decided to go back to language teaching, but full-time. I completed my teacher training at the London Italian Cultural Institute, where I achieved my TIAFL Certificate (Teacher of Italian as a Foreign Language).
I am currently working as part-time private Italian tutor in North London.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching is student-centred: this means that I plan lessons according to my learners' level, needs and interests.
Lessons are completely in Italian and are designed according to the principles of the communicative method, which makes authentic Italian material the starting point that will lead students to explore and discover the language in a spontaneous way.
You will be learning Italian and Italian culture through different texts and activities. My resources are the latest Italian learning text books, but also literature, songs, videos, articles and games.
Guided by the student's objectives, we will be working on all language abilities: speaking, writing, listening and reading, in order to promote a full and enjoyable learning process.

Personal Description:
Of my 50 A-Level Law students 25% attained an A*and 35% attained an A grade last year. I have extensive experience delivering the year 7 to 9 math curriculum to both children and adults. I hold a Law degree, a PGCE, a teaching qualification for the delivery of Maths, a Masters degree in Education and am currently studying for a PhD in the Sociology of Education. Very friendly and able to identify the individual learning needs of my students.

Teaching Experience:

During my five years of employment in colleges, I have taught AS/A2 Law and Sociology to students aged 16 - 19 and legal elements of Level 3 BTEC Nationals in Applied Forensic Science. Students have consistently attained grades that rival private sector provision. Of my 23 A2 students that left in May 2014, 25% attained an A*and 35% attained an A grade. All but one learner attained a minimum of a C grade and no learner failed their course of study. This degree of outcome has been replicated with my current cohort of students, 50% of which attained an A grade at AS. These learners achieved significantly higher grades than predictions that were based on their performance in other A-Level choices and prior GCSE assessments. Attendance and retention rates of my learners are outstanding and the vast majority of learners continue into the second year. In my role I hope to improve the prospects of students who desire places at university. Further to this I have tutored Law and Sociology at undergraduate level, ensuring students attain 2.1 outcomes.

I utilise direct questioning at a suitable level for the individual learner and adopt appropriate teaching methods for the learning of more complex legal and sociological concepts.

My specialist areas of interest are international law, European un ion law, human rights, discrimination policy, religious freedoms/speech, reform and sociology.

Tutoring Approach:

I have received three consecutive `excellent` reports on my practice in the classroom.

I deliver lessons that are prepared with up to date knowledge of developments in the law and case studies often contain a Welsh dimension. Hand-outs and PowerPoint resources will always accompany lessons.

Prefer to keep things informal and friendly. Prefer to deliver in 2-3 hour teaching blocks.

Personal Description:
Hi, I am Olga. I have been a professional musician since 1986 (BMus, CT ABRSM, Dip ABRSM) as well as an interpreter (completed DPSI course in 2009 - Diploma in Public Service Interpreting, Local Government). I am tri-lingual, fluent in Russian, English and Lithuanian. Over the years I have developed and honed many important skills, such as patience, reliability & diligence. These, coupled with my single minded determination to succeed in everything I attempt, have provided me with what I believe are the necessary skills to be an excellent teacher.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching since 1986. I have always enjoyed teaching students of all ages/level and abilities.
I regularly work for local government, i.e. the NHS, schools, social services etc) as an interpreter. This experience is very useful in equipping me to be able to ensure that my language students develop an extremely rounded vocabulary.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is that it has to first and foremost be FUN! I feel that my students learn more readily when they are enjoying themselves. I employ a highly personalised approach with individual strategies for all my students, whether they be six or sixty-six, whether they be studying for an examination or merely for pleasure.

Personal Description:
I am a young spanish guy living in London, i came to this city to improve my English because im studying to be a teacher (English specialty). Its a 4 years degree in the International University of La Rioja (Spain) and i complement my studies working part-time in a famous clothing store.
Five years ago i finished my Economics degree (4 years) in University of La Corua (Spain) and also i did a course about Stock Market Analysis in University of La Corua. I received a State scholarship to work in an Italian international company, where i had the chance to learn Italian as well. I did an Italian course in the Tourism School of Rimini (Italy).
I decided to star my teacher degree and change my personal career because i feel that its my vocation, i love to learn about everything and have the chance to pass on my knowledge to others. Its something really pleasant.
As additional information i can say that im a quite person, very patient and i love the sports, im a sportsmen and i did the course to be a monitor leisure activities which has given me the opportunity to deal with many children and teach them so many different activities such as: Archery, kayak, canoeing and rowing...
Other information of interest is that i was football coach during 6 years in a Spanish football team, dealing with children between 5 and 12 years old. It was a good experience to learn how i can motivate the children to achieve their objectives.

Teaching Experience:

Ive been working as a Spanish teacher in a language academy during 6 months, teaching people from Germany, France, and UK... (Adult people)
Also I've worked in a Primary School during 1 year as an English teaching assistant, teaching children aged between 3 and 9.
Apart from that i worked as a private tutor teaching different subject such as maths, English, economy, geography, history and Spanish. Teaching to students between 6 and 15 years old.

Tutoring Approach:

About my teaching philosophy, i believe that the student has to understand the problems and no just memorize. I always try to explain the subjects adapting the concepts to the real life, like that, the student will remember better the explanation.
For language classes i try to combine grammar, vocabulary and conversation. The conversation is one of the most important part to gain confidence and to speak fluently another language.
I always try to motivate the students to face the subject like something interesting and funny for them.
Concerning my availability im available Monday to Friday after 4:00 pm and weekends could also be negotiated. Im glad to tutor in my home or commute to your place or find another location.

Personal Description:
I began having Japanese lessons at school when I was eleven years old and continued to study the language for a further seven years. I completed GCSE Japanese- A* and GCE A Level Japanese-B before coming to the University of Leeds to study BA Japanese and Philosophy.
I have been lucky enough to have visited Osaka as an exchange student during my A-Level studies and also to have co-hosted an exchange student. These experiences were key in making me want to pursue learning Japanese as well as teach others about the language and culture.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught beginner Japanese lessons in primary schools and at my previous school supported secondary students with their Japanese studies. During my time in Japan I was able to assist Japanese friends at school with their learning of English as well as teach my host family key English phrases.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning a new language should be interactive and enjoyable. I encourage students to get stuck in and be prepared to learn from mistakes in order to develop a thorough understanding and sound knowledge of Japanese. The benefit of studying Japanese creatively and through the use of games, flashcards and evaluative quizzes is a relaxed approach to study and in my experience, steady achievement.

Like any language, when learning Japanese, practice makes perfect so lessons are at a pace ideal for the student in order to maximize progress. A balanced approach to both writing, reading and speaking are essential so I am keen to deliver a variety of exercises in lessons.

Most importantly I want students to enjoy learning Japanese as much as I love to teach it.

Personal Description:
I was born in Hamburg, Germany, am 24 years old and moved to Cardiff in 2013 to study towards a Master of Music degree at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. I completed a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Aberdeen in 2013 and graduated with 1st Class Honours.

I am an active performer, accompanist and composer, which I believe is very important in order to be able to speak from experience when teaching your instrument.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching piano and music theory for the past six years, both privately and at school and university. I have worked with children, university students as well as adults, ranging from early beginners to grade 8 standard and beyond.

I have prepared my students for school exams, graded exams, concerts and competitions and all of them passed and had successful performances.

Tutoring Approach:

I use various teaching resources which I have both collected and created myself to cover all areas of piano playing, i.e. sight-reading, theory, scales, technical exercises, duo and ensemble playing. I find it more important (especially for a young person) to develop a natural relationship with the instrument and to learn to love the sound of it by making it and listening to it rather than to merely focus on achieving grades as quickly as possible.

I believe that music should be a social activity. This is why I encourage all of my students to perform in front of each other at regular informal concerts as well as festivals and competitions, if the student feels ready.

Working with students and passing on my knowledge and skills is the most rewarding experience and based on the good relationship I have with all my students and their families as well as my students' successes in performances and competitions I am confident to say that they are having an enjoyable and rewarding time under my tuition.

Personal Description:
I am always exam-focused and make sure students get through the exam with good marks.I teach all individual on basis of individual comfort level. I am currently doing ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountant) and CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst ,USA) (CFA candidate).

Teaching Experience:

I have over five years teaching experience and I have successfully provided tutoring services to a large number of students in accounts and finance across London, ranging from O-level to University level.

Tutoring Approach:

My easy demeanour makes me highly approachable and students respond positively in my efforts to get them actively involved in their own learning.I can easily identify problem a particular student is facing and make them do some extra questions from their course book and past papers until the problem is completely resolved.Maths comes by practice and the point of private tuition is to help out students on one to one bases without any distraction.I tend to focus more on common mistakes which are normally repeated by students in their exams and identified by examiner in his report.

Personal Description:
As a child, I learned by being told, by beatings, shaming and a strict examination system. As you can imagine I didn't learn much that I could later apply to my academic life. As a result, I became an inveterate learner, always interested in learning the next thing. At one point, the drive to learn was because I didn't see myself as being good enough. Later on, that drive became an interest in discovering my own abilities as well as about helping others. I have now learned so much about how not to teach that I have gained good insight into how learning happens. I am keen to ensure all my learners learn how to learn and understand how to apply what they discover.

Teaching Experience:

My background is in teaching, training and facilitation. I have over 25 years experience of teaching in different forms having worked within primary, secondary and further education settings. I am an NVQ / TAQA assessor and trained and assessed Parenting Practitioners and other candidates up to Level 5 in Health & Social Care. I have specialist skills in Personal Effectiveness subjects such as Report Writing, Speed Reading, Presentation Skills.

Tutoring Approach:

Being a private tutor used to be the preserve of only those with the highest qualifications and the greatest experience. Now all that's changed.

However good a tutor is, the learner needs to be astute in order know if the tutor is a good match for her / him. Importantly, making the right choice can be complex.
Here are three tips to help you decide if I am or someone else is right for you. The following tips describe how I teach and how I will enable you to be an independent learner.

1. Look for a tutor who can teach you how to learn
Here's a funny thing learners study a subject, sometimes for months and years and can come away with no long-term memory of the underpinning principles of the subject. As disturbing, they have no ongoing understanding of the subject. They are unable to apply what they tried to learn. This is easily resolved by clearing up past issues with learning. In Applied Scholastics it is now well known that if as a learner, you are helped to do so, you can learn any subject. This is central to how I teach.

2. Look for tutors who understand the main barriers to learning and can help you overcome them
There are three main barriers to study. They relate to confusion over an idea, missing out critical steps and having unclear ideas about the subject under study. Gaining a day to day facility with overcoming those barriers is key to effective and efficient study. I use these methods to help my own reading and study. I will introduce them to you so that you can use them too.

3. Look for tutors who can help you find the information you need so that you keep expanding your own understanding of the subject

Sometimes, a learner during a course of study will find that s/he wants to give up. Have you ever experienced this? Whenever that happens it is because there is something - an idea, a symbol, a form of punctuation, the use of a word, or something else - that you did not understand. Without the proper factual information on this and without the correct knowledge of why and how this happens, the learner will struggle. Without knowing what remedies to apply, the learner will give up.

When you study, you are investing time and energy. In this case, money too. If you want to discover more about how you learn, what your barriers to study are and how to understand more, you will benefit from being an independent learner. That will repay your investment.

Those three critical points should help you decide if I could be right for you. They briefly describe the way in which I would work with you and enable you to be an independent learner.

Personal Description:
I am Dimitrios and I am a freelance musician/teacher/producer. My main musical discipline is drumming but I also play guitar and have basic knowledge of keyboards. I also possess a high level of musical theory and I am an intermediate percussion player.

I am 25 years old and I currently reside in South-West London. I am Greek but the last three years I've been living in UK.

I have studied in the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, graduating with a Bachelor Degree under the excellent guidance of Pete Riley (Guthrie Govan) and Frank Tontoh ( Amy Winehouse, George Michael). With them I have studied and played a wide variety of contemporary musical styles (funk, jazz, pop, hip-hop, r'n'b, rock, latin etc)

I am very approachable, friendly and open minded and I love to share my knowledge on music and everything else around this subject. I can also provide advise on career questions, hardware and general consultation.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience begins back in Greece where I used to help my private tutor ease his workload. I used to handle beginners and very young children. I have also spend a year on teaching before I moved in England to study as a mean of preparing my self for the path of the Freelance Musician I was aiming for.

During my days in ACM, I also used to help fellow students on lower levels of the school to better prepare for their Bachelor Course.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach depends largely on two factors. The age of my student and his experience.

I usually prefer to take my students back to the very basics. In case of drumming, I like to check their very body stance, their movement, the general understanding of time and rhythm and even their breathing while focusing on the instrument.

In general I tend to make everything sound fun and easy and approachable and I insist on connecting all the knowledge into practical concepts so the student can better understand what he is actually learning and why.

Overall, I focus on fun and relaxations but through discipline and organized learning and understanding.

Personal Description:
I am a 29 year old CELTA qualified native English teacher with over 7 years teaching experience. I'm currently working at a British council accredited school near where I live in the city centre.

Teaching Experience:

The majority of my experience was at International House (IH), Sevilla, Spain. IH is an internationally recognised organisation for the teaching of English as a foreign langauge. During 5 years there, I specialised in preparing students for the Cambridge exams (KET, PET, First and Advanced).

Aside from that, I have worked in 5 different countries and so I am familiar with the difficulties faced by learners from many different language groups. My experience includes all levels, ages, one to one and groups.

In my present job, I am preparing a group for the IELTs exam.

I have also had a great deal of experience focusing on specific areas such as writing, checking CVs, proof-reading and business.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning comes from the student and that the role of the teacher is to support the student in this process. So, I always look to provide a context and environment in which a learner can develop. The context must be real and relevant to the students needs.

As a teacher, I have developed an in-depth knowledge of the language and learning resources which I can use to help students achieve their goals. I also believe that the learning experience does not start and finish at the beginning and the end of a class. Part of my role as a teacher is to plan and evaluate how learning objectives can be reached outside of class. For example, students should review and try to apply what they've learnt as much as possible and spend time practicing skills which they need to improve on a regular basis.

Personal Description:
I'm a master student from China majoring in human nutrition in Glasgow university. Before this, in my undergraduate university in China I have worked as a proofreader of dictated draft from speech records for student union. I'm good at wording and grammar. Recently I learned a little German and Arabic to experience how people speaking varies around the world and also inspired by these teachers as to how to approach to a language from 0.

Teaching Experience:

During this year I have taught a classmate mandarin from 0. He is a Scottish. However, he is keen to learn a wide variety of languages. When he found Korean and Malay easier he gave up mandarin. Such a worldwide culture vulture! Anyway, no matter you learn mandarin for culture, travel, work, yellow-face friends, curiosity, or just Chinese restaurants, you are all warmly welcome! I can teach you from the basic pronunciation which is like singing to beautiful Chinese characters which is like dancing.....

Tutoring Approach:

I'm only available from September to December 2016. I'm friendly and very patient. If you have time for homestudying I can teach more during tutorial; if not, we will practice more together to consolidate memory. Language is for communication, absolutely not for getting a high score!
Honored to be your teacher!
