I later formed my own company, specialising in developing applications for small- to medium-sized companies. I used the logical skills developed through studying Mathematics in my work as Business Analyst and Project Manager.

Most of my university pupils attend Kingston University, Surrey University, or one of the University of London colleges, though many come for intensive lessons in the holidays from other universities to reinforce the topics they are learning, or to prepare for re-sits.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in tailoring the teaching approach to each student's needs and individual learning style. For school children and university students, I discuss their aims with them - and with their parents, if required - to determine what topics need additional tuition and then to work out the appropriate programme. I advocate continuous assessment to measure the student's progress. Closer to exams, the pupils will work through old papers. At this stage, strategic choices may be made to focus on the pupils strengths.
For adults, I work with them to develop a personalised programme to enable them to achieve their goals. This may mean working towards a specific qualification.
I have great passion for and a deep knowledge of Mathematics. My aim is always to get my students to enjoy the subject. Most importantly, they are encouraged to gain confidence in their own abilities by building on what they feel comfortable with. I believe that the right teacher can undo wrong learning very quickly.
Lessons take place at my students' homes, or at my home in Kingston, where I have a quiet study. Assignments and homework are an integral part of my teaching: there can be no improvement without practice.

My teaching experience extends over 20 years and is backed by professional qualifications in each field that I teach. I.e. Law, Martial Arts and fitness / personal training / self defence and of course English and Arabic.

I would recommend that you book a ONE hour meeting / tutorial initially. Further tuition can then be discussed - rather than book 15 hours or 1000 hours etc.! Just see how things go and take it from there - this approach will save you registration fees :-)

Teaching Experience:

I have taught both Arabic and English (native speaker) at various levels - up to university undergraduate level, at several London and UK-based schools as well as managing and directing an international language school in the Middle East.

I also tutor law, up to and including undergraduate level, this includes the foundation subjects: Equity and Trusts, Tort, European, Criminal, Public, Land and Contract as well as self defence/fitness.

The martial arts / fitness tuition stems over three community based clubs and competing in regional and international (primarily Tae Kwon Do and submission grappling) competition.

I first became interested in teaching through working as a private tutor with GCSE students, something I am doing since I finished my graduation, training to become a leader in the process. This made me realise I enjoyed working with the people in their learning process, and college experience confirmed tutoring/teaching as a career choice. My subsequent one year PGCE has served further to fire my enthusiasm and prepared me effectively to take responsibility for learners.

Teaching Experience:

I am teaching for last 5 years. In addition, I worked as a Teaching Assistant over two years.I have been privately tutoring primary and secondary maths, A level maths and Economics on one-to-one basis since 2003. My academic education and teaching practices have given me a good understanding of the curriculum and of what makes effective teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I make a conscious effort to ensure I am not just catering for visual learners like myself, but try to see lessons through other learners' eyes. For example, to introduce pictograms to numeracy entry level class, I got the learners to create 'human pictograms' arranged by name length, pets, eye colour, etc. and then transferred that information as pictograms to the board. Kinaesthetic learners were thereby catered for in the physical movement and manipulation, visual learners in the pictograms created on the board and audio learners as we discussed and interpreted the graphs.

I have in particular come to understand the value of sharing learning objectives and success criteria with students. Knowing exactly what is expected and how they can achieve allow learners to focus more clearly on tasks.

I feel it is important to make learning interesting and creative, and one way to achieve this is using real life example; this allows learners to explore and understand situations and express feelings, thoughts and emotions. An example of how I have successfully used real life situation was with a GCSE class, working out the area of the classroom to decide the correct amount of carpet needed for the classroom. I gave the students measuring tape to measure the length and width of the classroom. They were incredibly enthusiastic and threw themselves into the task. They found this a fun, enjoyable and worthwhile learning experience, which enabled them to better understand the situation and empathise with those concerned.

Upon leaving the Royal Air Force after an eleven year long career serving as an engineer both at home and overseas, I followed a busy career in Hospitality Management. A chance reading of the local press pointed me in the direction of university. After completing a degree in English, I embarked on a career in teaching - a vocation which took me to the Middle East. Personal Description:
I am a mature Scottish Chartered Teacher who qualified initially in 1994. I received the Chartered Teacher from the general teaching council for Scotland in 2010. I have experience of tutoring students from 2006 and I am very enthusiastic in my work. I do not watch the clock and will prepare lessons to meet the needs of the student. I gained a M.A.Ed.(Special Needs) in 2005 and have found it invaluable in identifying and overcoming barriers to learning.Presently I have a wide range of students including those with Dyslexia and Aspergers. I also tutor for a family who home xchool their childrens.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutor children and young adults from upper primary to the senior stage in Secondary. I have no preference for the stage, it is the teaching experience I enjoy.

Tutoring Approach:

I adopt a very pupil centred approach to teaching. All children are different and it is your child's needs I must meet. Some students like to work on homework others on specific parts of the course. There is no general case to consider. I will use an approach to teaching which suits the student.

Teaching Experience:

Deborah has taught a multitude of classes and taken many workshops over the years, including at primary and secondary schools, and also spent a year in Thailand teaching English and Spanish to children at a private secondary school and took private tuition for university students and adults, as well as the Thai Military.

Deborah has worked for Perform (similar to Stagecoach) and The Cat's Grin Theatre Company, and coaches and provides tuition to adults and kids alike.
