I am a professional, dedicated and enthusiastic tutor with over 20 years experience, extremely quick at identifying student problem areas and devising the most efficient solutions, sometimes with budget or time constraints. Where necessary I focus on exam technique as I find many capable and knowledgeable students gain confidence (and marks!) once these skills are taught.

I am well-liked by my tutees who understand I want the very best outcome for them, and also that I appreciate they are under pressure to succeed, and my services are frequently recommended to siblings and friends.

Teaching Experience:

As well as many years continuous home-tutoring experience, I have taught in both state and private sectors since 1986; examples being Surrey College (Guildford), Horsell High School (Woking) and Farnborough College of Technology, and as recently as April 2013, the prestigious Seaford College in Petworth, W.Sussex.

I have a vast library of past examination papers in all my subjects at GCSE and GCE A level for Edexcel, AQA and OCR examining boards.

In addition I have some experience tutoring both common entrance and Baccalaureate Maths, Physics and Chemistry.

Tutoring Approach:

I appreciate that for most tutees private tuition represents a workload additional to both schoolwork and homework.

Therefore I aim to make tuition as interesting, interactive and productive as possible- whilst focusing on their objectives- usually a target examination grade. Experience has shown that students can expect learning progress with an experienced tutor such as myself to be without exaggeration, 2-4 times faster than could be made in a typical school classroom, whilst simultaneously gaining a fuller understanding of the topics covered.

I am a PhD in Chemistry and currently working in a secondary school. I have also been tutoring and would like to continue doing so as I find it to be a very rewarding job. I have an extensive experience as I have been in this field for more than 20 years.

As a parent, I know that my children benefited from being tutored prior to their GCSEs and A levels. Due to this reason, I would like to provide others with the same opportunity to boost their confidence so that they can excel in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths. Teaching Experience:

Through working at a secondary school in Surrey since 2007, I have developed key skills to support the learning of pupils within a structured teaching situation, small group withdrawal or individually as required. Working with individual pupils allows me to maintain their personal confidence, promote positive behaviour and encourage them to be independent individuals.

Along with working during the day , I provide tuitions in the evenings and weekends in Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Maths. As I am a flexible individual, I ensure that my tuitions are tailored to meet each tutee's needs.
Usually, I begin with ensuring that they have a strong foundation of the topic before studying it in greater detail. A strong foundation allows the tutee to apply their knowledge more effectively to exam style questions.
If the tutee would like to consolidate a particular topic, I would prepare various questions either from past papers or text-books to ensure that their understanding is clear. Also, I believe that memorising key definitions and facts can be very useful in an exam. Therefore, I use various memory games, flash cards and mini-tests to ensure that the tutee can recall these key definitions in a time-pressured exam environment. Through being a published research chemist, I have been able to understand various topics in detail such as, 'photo catalysed transformation of some toxic substances on semi-conducting chalcogenides'. I have also written a thesis on this topic and therefore, I believe, that my knowledge will allow me to tutor for A-Level Chemistry very effectively.
Due to my ample experience of working in different fields, I have gained good communication and problem solving skills. I believe in having a high standard in work and hope that it will reflect in my tutee's progress.

Hello. My name is Dr. Zara and I tutor students in the age group 13-18. I hold a Ph.D. in medical biochemistry and a PGCHE from the University of Kent. I am currently working at the University of Bristol.

I specialise in teaching Chemistry and Biology at A-level, specifically for OCR and AQA exam boards. I also teach Edexcel Biology (SNAB). I come across as a friendly, patient and enthusiastic tutor. I strive to make learning a creative and enjoyable experience, while always keeping the students goals in mind.

I have always had a passion for teaching. During the course of my medical school, I have taught maths and science at various levels including GCSE and Year 11-14 with great success. Tutoring Approach:

Pre-A level maths and science
I believe that every student has a different way of learning and as a teacher, it is my job to explore the learning style specific to the student and it is my job to inspire interest and confidence in the student. Often, I get feedback from students that the best thing about my teaching is the fact that I made them feel more confident to tackle the problems themselves and to trust their own judgement. I believe that this is very important, especially in maths and science because this is where creativity and problem-solving skills begin. I also believe in creating a solid foundation. I encourage students to always work from first principle, not just memorise formulas and really think about the basics and start working it out from there in a logical way. I feel that this is especially important in tackling more complex problems, which is what a lot of students struggle with.

Medical student tutoring
OSCE/PACES teaching: I like to focus on the basics and I emphasise the importance of getting the technique right. I use case-based discussions to stimulate students to think of about the history, examination, investigation and management. I teach students how to formulate differential diagnoses and come up with a management plan.

EMQ teaching: I focus on the technique of asnwering questions. Every question has a key word which steer you in the right direction, and my focus is for students to learn to identify these key words and select the best posisble option.

Medical school application: I get to know my student, understand their strength and weaknesses as well as their motivation and experience and tweak it to formulate the best possible portfolio to present to the medical school.

Most students imagine accounting to be a subject riddled with daunting calculations and demanding a higher form of intelligence. This is not so. In my years of teaching students I have discovered that most students fail because they study the wrong thing. Look at it this way. To understand the working of a balance sheet [statement of financial position] most students memorise the order in which elements are applied. This is the cardinal sin.

To be a successful student you must understand why we need a balance sheet and what information users of this particular financial statement are looking for. When you look at it from a users perspective [understanding who those users are and what they want] your mind no longer tries to remember what was after what but your mind starts to actually determine what needs to be there to satisfy the users questions regarding a companies affairs.

This way you can forget the specific format but you can always recreate it because you actually understand what is going on and why it is going on. Give me a call, I'll help you see the better side of accounting.

Personal Description:
I am a recently retired teacher with over 30 years combined experience in further education, independent and maintained secondary schools. I am now based in a beautiful part of Norfolk, where I paint, give private tuition and run an art club.
My own work is based on observations of mans' intervention in the landscape. I work in oils, water colour, digital photography and print.
My interests in art and design are many and varied, and include, in no particular order, sculpture/ceramics (Moore, Gormley, Perry), photography (Cartier-Bresson and LaChapelle), graphic design (Brody, Bauhaus), and painting (Freud, Klimt, Giotto, Picasso).

Teaching Experience:

My first foray into teaching was in further education as a visiting lecturer in graphic design and illustration. Subsequently, I trained as a secondary school teacher and quickly became head of my first department in a boys grammar school. From there I moved into the independent sector, continuing to work successfully as head of department and head of faculty.
I have extensive experience as a senior regional moderator for GCSE examinations in art and design with a leading examinations board, being responsible for supervising the work of a team of visiting moderators in the south east of England, and for resolving disputes with schools. I do voluntary work for the National Trust, giving occasional talks to schools on symbolism in Tudor portraits.

Tutoring Approach:

Having started my career as a graphic designer I had, by necessity, to broaden my experience and skills into other two and three-dimensional media in order to become a successful teacher. My departments had outstanding results at GCSE and A-level, and many of my students went on to study at many of the principal art institutions, including Central St Martins, Chelsea, Glasgow, Edinburgh.
Teaching is about finding the unique personality of the individual and finding ways to encourage its expression. I received a distinction in Latin as part of my MA Classics degree, and continue to enjoy studying and teaching both Latin and ancient Greek.

Teaching Experience:

Extensive experience in teaching prep-school, GCSE, A-level and degree-level Latin to ages ranging between 7 to 40+ yrs.

Select achievements of 2016:

Pupil i: A pupil of mine for c three years, he achieved a B in the Westminster School Latin Challenge 13+ examination (A-Level standard) and has earned himself a place at the school.

Pupil ii.: Came to me with almost no knowledge of Latin, having found it tedious during the year. Within 12 weeks she took the exam and recieved a B at Level 1 Latin.

Pupil iii.: A long-standing pupil, she received as average a First for the essays I provided tuition on (Year 1 of her BA Classical Studies).

Select achievements of 2015:

Pupil i. (Prep) Bright though receiving consistently low marks in his Latin and Greek mock papers, he achieved an A in the end-of-year examinations in both subjects after c six months tuition, and recieved a place at a top London school.

Pupil ii. (GCSE) Suffering from dyslexia and receiving low marks on her language papers, she eventually achieved an A after c six months of tuition. Now studying at a top London girls' school.

Tutoring Approach:

I use the first lesson to assess the extent of the pupil's grammatical knoweldge by asking for the recitation of tables and perhaps a translation of a small piece of prose or verse matched in difficulty to the pupil's level.

After this assessment, the following lessons are based around the needs of the pupil, with practice questions and passages forming the basis of our learning.

Imperative to my lessons are a sense of humour and frequent chats - this provides relief, which in turn stimulates concentration and allows for a rapport to to be built with the pupil.

Personal Description:
