Personal Description:
As a friendly and very patient maths educator who spends most of my working time tutoring at home, I would love to be of help to anyone who perhaps needs a confidence boost, guidance on a particular topic or even intensive revision sessions for an upcoming exam.

I also visit schools throughout the UK to deliver fun maths workshops, therefore I am DBS-registered, and have obtained a PGCE as well as a Masters degree in Education Management. I also help out with the media when asked for my views on topical mathematical news stories in Wales, mostly appearing on the radio.

Teaching Experience:

Having taught maths to all ages and abilities for 30 years (from KS1 children to adult education in the FE sector), I am an experienced and qualified maths specialist available to tutor students up to GCSE standard.

As well as GCSE itself, tuition is offered in many mathematical areas, including confidence-building in arithmetic techniques, college and university entrance tests, numeracy support for adult learners and maths/stats revision for non-mathematicians at university.

Tutoring Approach:

Please feel free to get in touch should you need any help or support, even with things you may think are too basic. This can often make all the difference.

As well as using my own materials, resources from other educators and past papers like many other tutors, I utilise a range of board games, card games & puzzles at times to help with the learning process, which children absolutely love. It takes the pressure off at times and they learn processes without realising it, building confidence at the same time.

Personal Description:
I have been teaching privately for over 14 years and I have been teaching on-line for over 3 years and I am passionate about teaching Modern Foreign Languages. I graduated from Reading University in 1980 having also studied at Grenoble University in France followed later by a TEFL course at Swansea University. After teaching French and German in a secondary school I moved into Exporting. Since 2000 I have been running my French and German Tuition and Translation company. I make regular visits to France and Germany and have many contacts in both of these countries. I regularly work also as a Translator of French and German into English. Italian is another language which I teach having studied this fantastic language at Reading University. English as a Foreign Language is another subject with which I have great experience and I often work for SILC which is a French company that sends French teenagers to the U.K. to improve their English. I have organised educational visits for French teenagers also in the U.K. on behalf of SILC.

TUITION ALSO VIA SKYPE.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught privately for over 14 years and previously worked as a French and German teacher in a secondary school and have taught French and German to adults at Leisure Centres for over six years. For the past 14 years I have taught French and German to all levels including University level with some excellent results at GCSE and A Level. I also teach English as a Foreign Language and regularly organise study visits for French teenagers in my area. I have also taught Italian online to Beginners and also supply Tuition via a Skype connection to students for all of my subject areas. Teaching via Skype is an extremely effective means of teaching a language providing both visual, oral and written back-up with the student interacting with the Tutor. I have worked for Apricot Online Learning which provides Tuition via Skype for students who are unable to attend school on a regular basis.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very sympathetic approach to Tutoring and always get the best from my students. I have many years of Teaching experience and always check at every stage that the student can use the concepts which he or she has been taught. Teaching is done in a relaxed manner which puts the student at ease and this helps them to achieve their full potential. As stated above all of my students have passed all of their examinations in either French or German while studying with me at GCSE and A Level. I am passionate about my vocation as a Tutor and always go the extra mile to achieve the very best results for all of my students. Tutoring requires commitment and a total dedication to the role of mentor and educator.
My job is not only to educate but also to inspire and lead by example through proven methods which maximise a student's potential.

Personal Description:
***FULLY BOOKED UNTIL END OF SUMMER EXAMS***
I am a qualified secondary school teacher and mother of 4 children living in Caldicot. I am able to teach both Physics and Mathematics up to GCSE and A Level Physics.

Teaching Experience:

*** FULLY BOOKED UNTIL END OF SUMMER EXAMS ***
I began teaching in 2001, qualified as a Science teacher who specialises in Physics. I have been successful in raising standards of attainment in both the key stage 3 and GCSE classes I have taught. As a tutor, I have successfully supported many pupils, with all previous tutees having achieved their expected grade or better, for both Science and Mathematics disciplines. I have also tutored primary school pupils and an adult returning to GCSE studies.
I have experience of teaching most specifications including AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC Maths and Science.

I have several years experience being contracted to mark exam papers for a major examination board and was later promoted to team leader, overseeing the exam marking for a number of examiners. This has provided me with a high level of expertise of the examination system and the demands of candidates, something that I am able to use effectively as a tutor. I have gained a great deal of experience of teaching pupils with SEN.

Tutoring Approach:

*** FULLY BOOKED UNTIL END OF SUMMER EXAMS ***
I set realistic targets for the students I tutor and am wholly committed to their success. I provide all resources including worksheets, text books, exercise books. I have an excellent relationship with students and have been asked to continue tutoring on to A Level for some students. I look to identify students weaknesses and focus on developing those areas, along with coaching on how to perform well in examinations.

Lessons can take place at my home Monday to Friday from 5:30pm. Weekend lessons available (please contact for availability and prices).
I am able to travel to the students home (Caldicot and surrounding areas). Additional charges may apply for travel expenses depending on distance.

Discounts available for siblings (each sibling gets a 10% discount, 15% if lessons on the same day) and block bookings

Personal Description:
I am a 2:1 graduate with a good grounding in both the arts and sciences, as I studied English, German, Maths and Physics at A-level, before gaining my BA in Architecture from UCA - University for the Creative Arts (formerly the Kent Institute of Art & Design). I now work as a freelance Sinhalese interpreter and Buddhist teacher / meditation group leader. In my spare time I'm an amateur singer-songwriter.

Teaching Experience:

I currently teach adults early Buddhist philosophy, as well as how to meditate. I have also led occasional meditation groups for primary school children as part of their Religious Education lessons, and have tutored children to improve their Maths ability for their 11+ exam.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm always friendly and encouraging, and am good at helping students understand concepts by using examples, illustrations and provoking discussion. Several adults who I teach Buddhism and meditation to are foreign nationals with poor English; so I communicate clearly, using stories and anecdotes, with lots of eye contact, facial expressions and hand gestures to get my message across.

Personal Description:
I'm a ex-mathematical physicist from Cambridge turned film director, and also freelance as a data-scientist. I have two funded feature films in development and have made music videos and adverts. I started tutoring when I switched careers because the film industry is unstable, especially as a freelancer. I keep up the tutoring now because I enjoy it and look for assignments I think are interesting and where I can really make a difference.

I am passionate about the subjects I tutor in and education in general. Education forms the foundation for freeing us from bigotry and ignorance, makes us better people and permits us to live richer, better lives. Knowledge is liberating and my subjects especially open many doors. They are not easy and require a willingness to work hard, but I strongly believe that anyone can get to grips with them if given the correct guidance. Most often the problem is not the student but a poor teacher, unresolved conceptual difficulties or lack of motivation. I want to fix these issues for you.

I'd say my approach to education is rigorous, highly intellectual and what one might term renaissance in approach. I'm interested in all aspects of education, and how our disparate academic disciplines connect which is somewhat antithetical to the modern approach to education but just the sort of thing one needs to get into Oxbridge and the like.

Why is tutoring important to me? Firstly, I feel it is my responsibility to pass on the knowledge and skills I have attained; secondly, I find it satisfying to help others learn and achieve what they did not think possible, regardless of their ability; and finally, I think one of the best ways to assess your own understanding of a subject is to teach it; we learn the most about our areas of expertise when we try convey their concepts and methods to an audience.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored many (over 100) students privately over the past six years, improving their results in all cases where the students have followed my advice and worked hard. I'm only interested in teaching people who are prepared to do this work and better themselves, especially if its for something like the 11+/common entrance.

Beside the subjects listed in my profile, I will also teach 11+/common entrance, coding/game design, statistics and probability, film-making, creative writing, government and politics, economics.

Tutoring Approach:

I am patient and I persevere. I am happy to tutor people across all ranges of ability but I expect you to work hard and follow my advice.

My tutoring includes:

- encouragement of free and critical thinking
- varying teaching methods depending on what the student is most receptive to including: problem based learning, discourse, traditional exercises, experiments, lectures
- exam preparation
- confidence building
- resolution of conceptual difficulties
- helping with homework
- homework marking
- undergraduate and postgraduate application advice
- coaching for Oxbridge entrance including the STEP papers
- interview advice at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- email contact throughout the week to resolve your problems as an when they arise
- group tuition

Please note (a) while I am based in Hackney, I will cover all areas of London; (b) I can offer reductions for group sessions.

Personal Description:
I am currently a secondary school Chemistry teacher at an independent all girls' school. I teach ages 11-18. I completed an Msci Chemistry course at Imperial College London gaining a first class honors degree. I have also done a year of teacher training and gained a Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) working in two schools along the way. I also did Physics and Maths as my ancillary subject. I am well organised and able to manage time effectively. My hobbies and interest includes shotokan karate which I have done for the past nine years and also football. I attended secondary school as a boarder in Reading School, where I did my GCSEs (8A*s,4As) and A-levels in maths, further maths, chemistry and history (4As).

Teaching Experience:

Teacher at independent girls' school in London for the past year.

PGCE and QTS teacher training year, taught in two schools in London.

I have been a tutor for 4 years. In this time i have tutored numerous students from the age of 8 up to 18. I have taught maths in particular to years 5-11 recently. In all cases I have improved their exam performances and been thanked by the parents.

I have worked in a primary school as a volunteer running a morning maths class every Tuesday during my A-levels. This helped me learn a lot on how to convey my message to children so they understand how to solve the problem using their own intuition.

Furthermore I have worked with children in the Bloomsbury Kumon centre for the past few years which has been beneficial in many ways. I have learnt how children can progress over time and what is required to help them. At school I have tutored younger children in maths and helped them with their GCSE and A-levels as a mentor.

I have also worked as a teacher assistant in Camden School for Girls and helped in class across all the year groups.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in going through problems with the children first and showing a clear example, then allowing them to practice until they understand and can do the problems on their own. Furthermore I sometimes guide them in the right direction without actually telling the answer so the child is able to figure it out for themselves. I would follow the syllabus provided and teach every topic in suitable order. Then I had work through past papers and leave them papers and homework on each topic to practice. I would try to create a spark and make the pupils interested in the subject so that they can pursue their further studies with more enthusiasm.

Personal Description:
I am very flexible and am able to tutor students in the evenings and on weekends. I am home-based so students can visit me or take lessons through SKYPE. This flexibility suits busy students and those with other commitments who are often unable to stick to a strict regime. I have a PgDip in TESOL and am constantly looking to invent interesting new ways to teach and encourage my students.

Teaching Experience:

I have been an English language teacher for over 14 years and have worked in Greece, Japan and Indonesia as well as in the UK.

I lecture part time in higher education institutions and have worked as Assistant Director of Studies/Academic Manager of a college in Edinburgh where I ran a busy summer school.

I have helped countless students achieve and often exceed their expectations in exam classes including IELTS and TOEFL.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach on a student-centred basis and during the first meeting we will work together to create a detailed plan covering all your needs for the agreed number of lessons.

Every lesson will centre on a specific grammar point and vocabulary theme with lots of conversation and student input. My students definitely do most of the talking!

I will assess progress regularly through tests and coursework and adapt the lesson plans as appropriate.

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic and committed teacher and enjoy teaching all subjects, in particular maths and literacy. I strive to make learning interactive and fun for children and get a lot of satisfaction from helping children to achieve their potential.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified primary school teacher and work mainly with 7-11 year olds. Prior to qualifying I worked for several years as a teaching assistant, often working on a one-to-one basis with children. I have a good range of teaching methods which I use to help children develop their knowledge and learning skills. I am able to build strong relationships with children, encouraging and leading them to become confident, independent learners. In addition to primary teaching I also have experience of teaching GCSE maths and level 2 adult maths.

Tutoring Approach:

All children are individuals and learn in different ways. I would undertake an initial assessment for your child and tailor lessons accordingly. I will always look at what children can do and work with them to discover the gaps in their knowledge and any misconceptions they may have. I feel it is important to set achievable targets and build up children's confidence in their own abilities. Linking the teaching of literacy and maths to other subjects and real life situations makes learning more meaningful to children.

I am a Graduate in Engineering with excellent academic background. Recently I have completed masters in Structural Engineering with distinction. I have sound communication skills and have ability to deliver my concepts at any level.

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching is the mother of all professions and it is one of the most respectable profession. To have a complete conceptual knowledge about something and to have an ability to deliver that knowledge both are totally different things. Most people have outstanding knowledge but they are unable to deliver that knowledge effectively. So my approach to tutoring is to deliver my concepts effectively and to teach at all levels.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate in German and Drama and I work in theatre and film as a freelance set and costume designer and also as a freelance translator (English and German).
I'm from London but lived in Germany for 4 years. I enjoy learning languages, cooking, reading, cycling, and going to the theatre and cinema. I am currently based in Bristol where I am studying for an MA.

Teaching Experience:

I enjoy teaching and have mentored students at various levels, mainly in German or English as a foreign language. I worked as an English teacher in Germany, teaching English as a foreign language to children and teenagers of all levels from 7-17 years old. I have up to date knowledge of the curriculum for GCSE German.

Tutoring Approach:

I take an open and student-based approach to tutoring - you decide what and how you want to learn. I provide guidance, advice and subject knowledge and offer feedback on how you can improve what you already know, as well as the way you learn, to help you learn more independently. I only teach subjects I'm passionate about and believe in enjoying yourself while learning.

Feel free to contact me for further information!

Personal Description:
My aim is to help each student reach their potential through individually tailored lessons designed to make learning enjoyable. I have a strong belief that for people of all ages, learning can be fun, and if you relish the process, you are much more likely to learn something!

Every lesson includes the use of several workbooks, learning diagrams, reading books, learning games and rewards (for younger students) ranging from stickers to special prizes for the hardest workers!

I also believe that a hugely understated part of any teachers role is to give a student confidence, as when belief is established, the student's results tend to rapidly improve as well. Therefore my extremely enthusiastic approach to tutoring is vital in building a students confidence and skyrocketing upwards in levels.

There is nothing I enjoy more than seeing a student achieve what they set out to do, be it a particular grade they need to obtain or a skill they need to develop.

Teaching Experience:

For over nine years I have been teaching English, Literacy and Reading from my own home. I have an Honours Degree in English Language BA (Hons).

Tutoring Approach:

Recent Testimonials:

Ellen (10)
Year 6 SATS

Ellen was described as just below the expected level for English. We also felt her spelling was often poor and she struggled with extended writing. The main thing we have noticed is Ellen's confidence, attitude to learning and overall happiness: the improvement is immense. Ellen has now adapted a 'can do' attitude and revels in articulating what she has learnt with David. David is incredibly enthusiastic and positive, an approach that has really worked with Ellen. Speaking as a teacher, it is also clear that he understands the amendment procedures for Key Stage 2 and therefore every minute of every lesson is preparing Ellen for success. Ultimately my daughter loves to attend David's lesson and loves learning now!

Score: 10/10

Jack (16)
GCSE's

Jack's mock results were an E in English Language as well as a D in literature and he wanted to do Economics A level which required a B grade in his final GCSE. Jack had two hours of tuition per week from January to May. He enjoyed going (this surprised me as he hated English before the sessions) and had a new found likeness for literacy. He received a B in both language and literature and can now do A level economics. Jack related very well to David- this made learning easier for Jack and he obtained the grades he needed. His teachers at school noticed a marked improvement in his work when he was having tuition.

Score: 10/10

Oliver (6)
Year 2

Oliver was falling behind in Math's and English. I am very happy to say that his confidence and his ability to retain what David teaches him has improved greatly. His teachers at school have also commented on his marked improvement and he now feels a sense of achievement in everything he does- he also speaks of making David proud. David was/is exactly what I was looking for. Oliver doesn't seem to think about his lesson as lesson, he genuinely enjoys spending Saturday mornings at David's as he now really wants to improve himself! Wow!!!

Personal Description:
I'm an Italian girl from Rome who recently moved to the UK to start university at Goldsmiths College. I was raised in a bilingual home, with an Italian father, and Italo-American mother. I'm sociable and open with an interest in music, animals (I have three dogs back home) and sports, especially sailing. I love children and have experience in babysitting: this is why I'm looking to tutor younger people. I'm looking for a job which will not interfere with my studies in order to make a little money aside from what I receive from my family.

Teaching Experience:

I do not have extensive teaching experience, but in Rome I babysat and nurtured two young Italian girls (6 and 8 years old) for around 2 years. As I am bilingual, on request from the girls parents, I often adressed them in English in order to better their language skills. We played educational games, held conversations, watched films and sang songs in order to make the experience as fun and entertaining as possible. Although I realize that I dont have considerable experience I am eager to learn, and teach. Furthermore I was raised with a younger sibling, and in close contact with 3 younger cousins of which I was often left in charge.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to make it as engaging and enjoyable as possible. Youngsters are often in school for a good part of the day, and to leave school just to be privately tutored for an hour or two may result discouraging for them. In order to make these lessons a pleasure, as opposed to a chore, I hope to employ teaching tactics which will produce satisfaction and gratification. I am open to suggestions by part of the parents, but if left to my own accord I would employ the following activities: conversation, typical Italian games which will extend vocabulary, general culture, cooking typical plates, singing traditional songs, watching funny clips, reading stories aloud, and playing pretend games. If required I will be able to engage in grammatical lessons as well, helping the children memorize verbs, quizzing them, and leaving them assignments to work on at home.

Personal Description:
I hold a full-scholarship academic PhD in English Drama and an MFA with Distinction in Shakespeare from the University of Exeter, as well as a first Class BA in Theatre from the University of British Columbia. I have published scholarly articles. Additionally, I have received relevant certifications in Teaching English as a Second Language and in radio presenting (and a slightly less relevant one in stage combat!).

I am a professional actor with experience in all media including the West End, and am a founding member of Hotspur Theatre Company. Additionally, I have professional experience as a playwright, theatre director, and teacher.

Teaching Experience:

From nursery school students to 16-18-year-olds, and undergraduates at the Universities of Exeter, Bath Spa, and Cumbria to postgraduates at the LAMDA drama school, I have taught students at almost every level. I have also coached adult professionals.

My key tutoring subjects are English, Drama, Shakespeare, English as a Foreign Language, Elocution, Voice and Speech, Public Speaking, Acting, and Research and Academic Writing. I look forward to helping you to achieve your best results!

Tutoring Approach:

All students are different, and therefore I vary my approach student-to-student. That said, my core approach includes my experience in drama, and I will often use play scripts as texts to analyse, or for language-building exercises and conversational scenarios. I have a substantial research and essay-writing background as well, so can offer useful insights into students' written work.
