Personal Description:
I'm an educational professional with over 20 years of teaching experience. I love teaching and learning and very much enjoy working with students.

I'm an avid reader and whilst I enjoy contemporary fiction, I have a real love of the classics and return to them again and again for both solace and inspiration.

My spare time is taken up with dancing and DJ'ing which I do on a semi-professional basis, organising classes, workshops and social dance events in the UK and continental Europe.

Teaching Experience:

I spent nine years co-owning and running a private language school in which I taught English both one-to-one and in small groups. I then continued to teach English freelance for two years, in the UK and in Italy. From 2002 to 2009, I worked on continued professional development for GPs and Primary Care team members, organising and delivering educational programmes and workshops. I currently tutor students and am also training in a new methodology to deliver fast-track intensive literacy programmes in secondary schools.

Tutoring Approach:

My main concern is that your confidence and belief in your own ability increases, so that what seemed difficult becomes easy and what seemed impossible becomes achievable. I like to work at your pace, in your preferred style and to build on your existing strengths. Of course the outcome is important, but my aim is that the process of working together will provide you with skills which you will be able to apply to all your future studies.

Personal Description:
I'm a qualified teacher with 11 years experience in 3 different inner London mixed secondary schools as well as being a local authority advisor. I'm currently working full time in a secondary school in Redbridge, I teach year 7 up to year 13. I've been an advisor for a London borough and have excellent understanding and knowledge of the National Curriculum. I have taken the responsibilities of head of department in one school and achieved excellent exam results.

Teaching Experience:

I have 11 years of teaching experience in secondary schools and currently working in a secondary school in Redbridge. I have delivered training to adults and pupils, and been an advisor for a borough.

Tutoring Approach:

You are in control of your learning so you will learn if I can motivate and make it fun for you. I believe that tutoring is about setting goals that you feel are attainable, discussing these with your parent/guardian is key in order to establish a prescribed route to take in order to show progress. I think tutoring works when you can see progress. I endeavour to help you quickly feel at ease and I work hard to develop your confidence. I will divide the session so we start with a recap, followed by the main learning outcomes and finish off with a feedback with the parents.

Personal Description:
I moved to Warwickshire from Kent in 2013 and I have chosen to settle in Stratford-upon-Avon. I have worked with children in schools; as well as helping to run a Brownies unit. Unfortunately I had to leave the Brownies when I began counselling training. I find that the listening skills I have developed are valuable when teaching; and especially when meeting parents or carers to discuss the requirements for tuition. I enjoy baking and playing board games as pass-times. I am also currently working as a Local Organiser, placing French students with host families for a visit in summer 2016.

Teaching Experience:

I have seven years experience of working in primary schools. My roles have included: teaching whole classes; supporting small groups of pupils with basic skills; and one-to-one phonics and spellings lessons.

I have been a private tutor since 2010. Parents and carers of children of all ages across the primary phase have employed me as a tutor. My experience includes preparing children for SATs and eleven plus tests, and entrance exams. Many of my tutees have had successful outcomes from these. I have excellent references, which highlight children's significant progress and increased confidence since working with me.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a calm and gentle approach, and I have a proven ability to make children feel at ease when working with me. I tailor tutoring to the individual child, taking into account their strengths and preferred learning styles. I use games where appropriate to reinforce concepts; and to make learning enjoyable. I praise children regularly to motivate them; and to recognise their achievements.

Personal Description:
I first started tutoring some of my fellow students in Elementary Logic during my second year at University and greatly enjoyed helping people improve their understanding of the subject and gain higher marks. Once my degree was completed I began tutoring A-Level students in Religious Studies and Philosophy in the Leeds area before moving to East Sussex.

The potential of tutoring can only be maximised if each student feels comfortable in lessons, so I actively try to cultivate a good working relationship with each student. After all, if I were not enthusiastic and passionate about the subject it would be impossible to motivate any students to be enthusiastic about it! So far all my students have improved their performance by at least by two grade boundaries following tuition with me.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked with students with a broad range of abilities, from those that need some extra help to reach their full potential, to those that aren't in mainstream schooling and as such don't have any previous knowledge of the subject. Some students are very visual in their learning, others are very shy and need a lot of encouragement to speak, and there are others who are extremely capable if you ask them the right questions. Using a range of resources I can tailor a programme of study to suit each student.

During my time tutoring I have noticed how easily students can lose confidence in their abilities, which at times can be a barrier in their learning. By encouraging students to ask questions, looking at what they are doing right and breaking down topics into their simplest formulation, I help the individual gain confidence in the subject and the skills to answer questions fully.3

Tutoring Approach:

My role as tutor is not only to help the student understand the concepts involved but also to gain the confidence to discuss those concepts in an analytical manner. Religious Studies and Philosophy are disciplines that greatly benefit from one-on-one tuition due to the complexity of the issues. In large lesson groups individuals can easily become confused and aren't always able to receive the instant feedback needed to further explore the subject matter.

As a tutor not only do I expand students' knowledge base but also engage students in a positive way with the subject. If students have been finding a subject difficult their enjoyment of learning can become affected and they can lose the motivation needed to gain a broader understanding. By showing enthusiasm for my subject and using relevant examples and discussion points I reintegrate fun back into learning about the subject.

Personal Description:
I am a native French speaker, born and educated in Paris, but I have been living in England for over 30 years and married an Englishman. I graduated from the Sorbonne University with a view to teaching English there but when I came to England as a French assistante. A year later, having completed my Master's degree I cam back to settle in England and soon qualified as a French teacher. I have been working in that capacity until 2012 when I retired from full-time teaching to dedicated myself to private tuition. I am thus very experienced at all levels consider myself an extremely dedicated teacher, eager to see the students progress and enjoy learning about French culture at the same time as they improve their command of the language. I believe that the most efficient way of learning other than total immersion is the one to one approach which has often allowed me to enable the students willing to invest the extra time to progress exponentially, get motivated and achieve their potential.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught French and English to adults (managerial staff and trainees) in the private sector, in small groups and individually.
Subsequently, I have taught French from KS3 to KS5, full-time on permanent contracts for nearly 30 years in total. At the same time I have tutored my own son to passing his French G.C.S.E. with the top mark in the country, and his French A Level with flying colours. As a result he is now reading French at Oxford University and he continues to call on my expertise whenever needed. A few years ago, one of my A Level students whom I tutored privately obtained the top marks in the country in every module of the Edexcel exam. I am extremely experienced in coaching students to success in their G.C.S.E. and A Level French exams and the overwhelming majority of my students systematically achieved their potential or better. For over 10 years I took on virtually all the A Level French teaching at my last school and have always acted as teacher-examiner for both G.C.S.E. and A Level..

Tutoring Approach:

First, I assess what each student is aiming to gain from the private tuition, whether it be coaching for written and/or oral examinations, building confidence in communicating within a given context, improving pronunciation, mastering the finer points of grammar, studying French literature etc. I also quickly evaluate the level and ability of individual student through gentle probing and questioning. I go on to prepare an appropriate programme of study and gather material such as PowerPoint presentations, tailor made practice exercises, Past Papers, relevant websites, use visual and aural aids to add interest. I set homework and can give feedback on line between lessons to maximise efficiency of personal contact time. Basically it all depends on what the student wishes to achieve.Because I know the subject so well I can be extremely flexible and can instantly fine tune my approach according to the need of my student at any given moment. Thanks to my long experience I have become extremely responsive to the all-important feedback

Personal Description:
I would describe myself as easy-going, friendly and caring. I love cooking and food in general, so am working for a nutrition company and charity in London at the moment. I enjoy being active and will try my hand at any sport. I love travelling and meeting new people.

Teaching Experience:

In the past two years I have been tutoring GCSE (year 1) and AS-level AQA Biology. I am now also tutoring GCSE (year 2). I adapt my sessions to the students' areas of concern. I work closely with the specification as this outlines the topics the students are expected to learn and is the guideline for exam questions. I have also worked with primary-school children to increase their reading age in schools around Leeds, which has been very rewarding as you see the children progress.

Tutoring Approach:

I am passionate and enthusiastic about my subjects and love seeing others get passionate about it too. I have experienced poor teaching and know how frustrating it can be, I do my best to approach new concepts from different angles. I feel patience is important on both sides.

Personal Description:
I obtained my degree in physics and doctorate in theoretical physics from the University of Nottingham. I then spent ten years working as a physicist in various universities in Italy, New Zealand and the UK. My specialty was low temperature physics. I am fascinated by science and try to pass on my enthusiasm.

In my spare time I enjoy white-water kayaking.

Teaching Experience:

One of my responsibilities as a postdoctoral researcher was to mentor physics students. I am used to explaining difficult concepts and techniques in a clear, simple and concise way. I have been working as a maths and physics tutor since January 2016. I currently teach students from 13 to adult, up to advanced higher.

I have recently become involved in school outreach, doing talks on the Big bang.

Tutoring Approach:

I encourage the student to think for himself/herself rather than spoon-feeding the material. I ensure that the student understands the fundamental concepts behind each topic, and does not simple regurgitate methods by rote. I aim to instill a fundamental understanding of the subject, but as exams approach I go through past papers and hone exam technique.

Personal Description:
I'm a 24 Canadian teacher, now in my second year teaching in London. In addition to teaching, I take part in screenwriting, filmmaking, and online blogging.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently in my second year teaching in England. I have full grasp of the new English GCSE curriculum for both Language and Literature. I teach Years 7-11, to students of all abilities (including EAL and Gifted & Talented students). I am also a GCSE Media Studied teacher, with additional knowledge in Film Studies.

Tutoring Approach:

I bring to every tutoring session the same levels of passion and enthusiasm that I exhibit on a daily basis in my classroom. I believe in hands-on learning, with understanding and appreciation of the material studied taking prominence to worrying about a grade or a level. I strongly believe that any student can excel, no matter their background or language, and that with passion and handwork, the desired grade is more than possible.

Personal Description:
MA in English Language, PGCE, experienced examiner of GCSE English Language for AQA exam board (5 years). I have been teaching for six years and have been awarded outstanding by Ofsted in school inspections. I can tutor GCSE English Language and/or Literature, English Grammar, and entrance exams. I am passionate about my subject and I also like to use it as a vehicle for students to explore morals, ethics and identity; I am most happy when I feel I am teaching students core skills, as well as broadening their knowledge of our rich history or important current affairs.

Teaching Experience:

I am a graduate of the Teach First programme. Teach First is a charity that tackles educational disadvantage by placing graduates in schools which are in challenging circumstances. As a result of this, I had to learn how to plan and deliver lessons that were fun and engaging, as well as educational. Many of the students in my classes were behind because the school hadn't been able secure permanent staff, so I also had to learn how to accelerate their progress quickly, if they were to have any hope of reaching their true potential. I signed up to examine English Language at GCSE for AQA and this was certainly helpful, as I was able to give my students a big insight into the skills that were required and the mistakes that were often made. I have been an examiner for the last five years, so my knowledge and experience here would certainly benefit someone about to start in year 11. I am passionate about making English as a subject relevant and I am lucky that English provides a lot of opportunities for that; I can teach the core skills using texts from contexts that students will relate too, which really helps to build confidence and maintain engagement. I am currently teaching in a prep school in Sevenoaks because I wanted to see a different side of the education system.

Tutoring Approach:

I will always aim choose engaging texts for my tutees to work with because I want the sessions to be engaging as well has educational, especially if this is an extra session on top of all the lessons in school.

I think it is important to break down core skills like 'analysis' and 'evaluation', so that students actually understand what is required of them. Often, students are asked to 'explain' and analyse and their students have no idea what this actually means or how to do it. I have tried and tested resources, which will support my tutee and help them to do this.

I think it is important to encourage independence in any tutee, but we can't just expect it to happen, just because we have asked. I feel that modelling good outcomes and the writing process, as well as asking students to critique their own work and the work of others is key in helping students to be more independent. This is something I have achieved in a classroom setting and so, I am confident that I can help a tutee to do the same.

Teaching Experience:

I am already working with 3 GCSE students and helping them to improve their maths. I have taught Maths to 2nd year economics university student and help the student to improve his maths.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to ensure that my students fully understand the concepts, get ample opportunity to practice and build confidence to a point where they can fully master the topic by tackling a wide range of questions.

I believe, all students learn in different ways and I adapt my teaching to suit their individual needs. I work at a pace that allows me to identify & fill gaps in their education.

I try to make learning fun by using a range of techniques depending on the student's age and ability. I am patient and don't mind thinking of several ways to explain the same thing if there is a particular topic that a student is really struggling. I usually provide the homework after each session so that he/she can practice more about the topic. In between, I do take surprise tests to understand whether the tutee has understood the topic properly or not.
