Personal Description:
I am a secondary Head of Music in North London, living in Hertfordshire, with a first class Music degree from the University of Oxford.

I have six years of teaching and tutoring experience for both AQA and Edexcel GCSE exams, and Edexcel AS and A Level. I teach and play the clarinet and piano, as well as having studied music theory, history and various other aspects of music to a very high level.

I am happy to tutor school-age pupils to help with their classroom work, GCSEs and A-Levels, and also teach music theory in preparation for ABRSM examinations. I am also a teacher of clarinet for all ages, up to grade 8 standard, and of piano up to grade 6 standard.

Teaching Experience:

- Currently working as a Head of Music in North London, teaching students aged 11-18.

- I have taught for six years at a range of secondary schools, working as both a classroom teacher and as an instrumental and vocal teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to first help pupils work through problems with their existing school work, in order to patch up any difficulties that they are currently having, then to additionally teach them extra things in order to keep their interest in the subject.

I would expect pupils to complete an amount of homework each week, depending on their existing workload, in order to help them to make progress.

Personal Description:
How did I become bilingual in English and French? It wasn't a miracle. If I can do it so can you.
I learned French in Lyon whilst I was teaching English as a foreign language. Your lessons with me are focused on real communication. I show you how I developed the skills of understanding and speaking the language so you can speak confidently too.
I've taught people from all sorts of backgrounds and am convinced that anyone can learn how to communicate in a foreign language. It's such a rewarding skill; great when you want to have a conversation, join in with the culture and just for the pure sense of achievement.
Speaking another language just feels really good.

Teaching Experience:

Over the last year, I have shown 50 people how to speak better French and English. That's nearly 1000 hours of teaching!

Language teaching experience
- French evening class to adults (2 years Secondary School, Essex)
- English as a foreign language to business executives, air traffic controllers and undergraduate university students (3 years International Language Trainers, Lyon)

Formats
- Skype lessons
- One-to-one private tutoring
- Group conversation classes
- Intensive crash courses

Complete beginners, people coming back to language learning after a long gap, and confident speakers who want to take their language skills to the next level

Tutoring Approach:

As your tutor, I wear many hats, I'm there to guide you through your learning, motivate you to keep moving towards your goals, make it easy for you to understand and give you lots of support for your own independent learning.
You will learn faster if you are open to exploring the language, prepared to take a few risks when speaking and are willing to engage with lots of different learning strategies that keep things interesting and challenging.
We have all proved that we have the skills and capacity to learn language, just by the fact we speak our own language. My approach is to tease out all the strategies and techniques that you already have for language learning, along with a few I've developed, and help you apply them to another language.
It's a fascinating journey with many benefits that go way beyond being able to conjugate verbs correctly, although of course grammar is important.

I travel to Epping, Harlow, North Weald, Bishop's Stortford, Great Dunmow, The Rodings, Saffron Walden and surrounding areas.
Skype across UK
Weekly lessons and intensive courses available.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified English teacher with a PhD in English Literature from Durham University and an MA degree in English Philology from the Jagiellonian University of Krakow. Language has always fascinated me and imparting my knowledge to others has been a pleasure and a reward. I am interested in Modernist as well as contemporary literature as much as in British culture and geography. I wish to share my passion with my students in order to help them realize that learning a language is not only useful but great fun if taught and approached in the right way.

Teaching Experience:

My English teaching experience covers working for Studio Cambridge, EAC and Anglophiles Academic at their summer camps for students of various nationalities in Cambridge, York, Bath, Bishop's Stortford and Skegness among others. I have also taught at three language schools in Poland and completed teaching practice in three Polish secondary schools. I have been teaching English on a one-to-one basis for the past ten years. I have prepared four students for their A-level examinations, which they passed with flying colours. I have also taught English to children and adults of all levels and with various difficulties (e.g. dyslexia).

For the past five years, I have also taught various modules in English Literature at Durham University and I am happy to provide university tuition for English.

A significant part of my language teaching experience is now also occupied by teaching Polish, which is very close to my heart. I have been teaching Polish to speakers of other languages (both adults and children) for the past six years and I greatly enjoy both teaching online and face-to-face.

As well as a private tutor and university lecturer, I am a translator who is happy to provide interpreting and translation services.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the teacher's method and approach are crucial to the success of every student. Language can be taught in a variety of ways, but the key is to choose the method that is most fruitful in an individual case. Forcing a language in is ineffective and unprofessional. The focus should be on practice rather than theory, though both are necessary for the student to develop their language skills and the tutor needs a depth of knowledge on the subject, as well as plenty of energy and a sense of humour to make the lessons both effective and enjoyable. Theory must always be supported with lots and lots of practice - be it grammar and vocabulary exercises, games, films, music or newspaper articles - anything that will keep the student in touch with the language system. Having fun is a significant aspect of learning a language and it is also important not to neglect any of the macro skills - speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Personal Description:
Hi I'm Heather!

I'm from London and my favourite colour is green.

I hold a First Class Degree in English Literature and Drama from Manchester University. I am also a trained actress.

I've been tutoring for over 5 years, working with students aged 6 years, up to 18, supporting them through KS1-4, GCSE and A'Level/IB curricula. I have also taught English as a foreign language. The content of my tutorials is entirely student- led; i.e I work towards the individual's goals and learning styles. I am experienced in the teaching of essay writing, exam preparation and textual analysis/understanding. The most important thing I can do as a tutor is to empower the student to feel confident in their own abilities and thoughts.

I have worked with students of A Level and GCSE in a diverse range of texts including Victorian Gothic literature, the American Novel, pre and post 1900 poetry, modern drama and theatre studies, post -colonial literature, dystopian literature. All of my students have achieved their personal desired A-C grades, and gained acceptance into the university of their choice.

I have 2 years experience of home schooling Key Stage 2 and 3 literacy and numeracy, with an excellent overview of the curriculum and a variety of techniques to engage different learners. I have worked closely with young learners with dyslexia and Asperger's syndrome.

I also teach drama school audition preparation, public speaking skills and methods of overcoming academic anxiety. I h

Do get in touch if you have any questions!

Heather

Teaching Experience:

-5years as a private tutor
-Assistant Tutor; Kumon Maths (Hampstead Branch)
-6 months as a Teaching Assistant (SEN) ; Carlton Primary School
-2 months as a 1-1 learning and care assistant to a young child with non-verbal cerebral palsy
-On-going voluntary work as a drama wokshop facilitator, (and Hackney Shed Inclusive Theatre Company) both a university and drama school
-TEFL introductory course- Cambridge
-Creative writing teacher training with The Ministry of Stories
-Drama facilitator, Hackney Shed Theatre Company

Tutoring Approach:

I believe tutoring should be a dialogue, not a dictatorship. Each lesson would be highly organized to cater for the requirements and ability level of the individual student. I plan all sessions to include a range of discussion, demonstration, exercises, review of work and homework tasks if required. Crucial to my teaching approach is an easy, flexible engagement with the individual- working to their learning style and objectives, and encouraging the pupil to draw out their own understandings rather than enforce rote learning.

Areas of expertise include: Literature Romantic poetry, contemporary poetry, the dystopian novel, the Gothic novel, WWI literature, post-colonial literature, the early novel, Shakespeare, dramatic writing, film studies. History- Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, Russia from Revolution through to the cold war. Apartheid in South Africa, the Suffragette movement, the history of British Education, Chartism. Theatre- Greek theatre, Kabuki, German Expressionism, Melodrama, Realism, Naturalism, Absurdism, post 1950s British drama, contemporary theatre

Personal Description:
I have worked with some 800+ children and have a pass rate of 91%. I recommend that children start tuition from near the beginning of year 5 and have a 50 mins-one hour lesson per week.

I am a regular contributor on 11+ website forums giving parents the benefit of my experience/knowledge.

In 2003 I produced a guide to 11+ success and have sold over 1500 copies to date.

I have been an adviser to publisher Nelson Thornes on the contents of their VR books which include the Bond range.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 21 years experience as a private tutor preparing children for the grammar school entrance exams (11+) and 11 years as a year 5 class teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

I carry out an initial assessment test which provides me with an accurate guide as to whether the child is a suitable candidate.

My aim is to familiarise my pupils with the different types of verbal reasoning questions they will encounter in the exam and teach them methods to tackle them most effectively.

As we approach the exam we concentrate on 'fine-tuning' i.e. concentrating specifically on any areas that need further attention and ensuring that the child is used to working at the required speed. Appropriate practice tests are done on a regular basis.

Personal Description:
I did my undergraduate degree at St Andrews University and postgrad at Durham University; I've just returned from a year on research in the US. I love teaching and work for the Open University, which involves finding innovative ways to teach a large range of topics to students from 18 to 70 years old, which always makes for an interesting experience. I'm living in Newcastle and love the North East in general.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching at degree level since 2002, I have over 250 hours of face-to-face teaching experience.

I also have a Durham Teaching and Learning Award, a peer- and student- nominated annual prize given to 3-5 teachers in the university to recognise outstanding achievement.

I've taught in both the Philosophy and Theology & Religion departments of Durham University, as well as teaching Introductions to Arts & Humanities for the Open University. I frequently teach study skills and help address specific students' concerns about how to improve.

My experience also includes work in the Access/Widening Participation arena, and I have taught a variety of topics for the 14-18 age range, including work on the Sutton Trust Summer School programme.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is best summed up as "everyone is different". Finding out what someone enjoys, what they're good at, and how they think, is the first step in helping them get the most they can out of any topic or situation. The ways that people learn, and the things that fire their imaginations, are diverse - but the expectations of coursework and exams don't always recognise that. I see my job as not simply preparing people to pass a test or master a skill, but as helping them to discover what works best for them as a student, and giving them the confidence to approach new challenges successfully.

Personal Description:
I am a PhD student at UCL, currently studying towards a doctorate in Mathematics. I have a BSc Financial Mathematics (2:1) from University of Surrey and a MSc Mathematics (distinction) from University of Sussex.

Teaching Experience:

I undertook tutoring roles at University of Sussex and I am currently tutoring a degree student in London. In addition to this I used to run a homework club at my secondary school.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that understanding is key. I will use visual representation and justification as much as possible to provide a clear understanding of why and how we use techniques. I will tailor my tutoring to the specific needs of my tutee, and my time will include a FREE consultation to see where the student is in their studies and attempt to highlight any areas where they may feel less comfortable. I hope to inspire my tutees to see maths as a useful tool as apposed to a chore.

Personal Description:
Hello,

I obtained my law degree from Queen Mary University of London. Then I studied the Legal Practice Course as well as the MA (LPC with Business). Finally, I have completed my Bar Professional Training Course and I have been called to the Bar in July 2016 . I have been working at a law firm since then.

I am from Cyprus, thus I speak, write and read fluent Greek as well. Despite my country of origin, I have been living in UK for six years and I can confidently say that I am fluent in English. I have obtained 8 out of 9 in IELTS.

Despite my academic background, I always participate in various volunteering projects. I have worked in Ireland at Barretstown camp where I had to supervise children from all over the world. I have been a student adviser at the Legal Advice Clinic since 2014. I have been the student director in the call screening part of the Legal Advice Clinic since October 2015.

I am a really hard-working and organised person and this can be justified by the fact that while I was studying the BPTC and being a student adviser and student director, I have been working part time in a law firm.

I believe that there is always enough time if you use it wisely!!

Teaching Experience:

For the past five years, I have been tutoring students of various ages. I have worked with younger students up to the age of 18 by assisting them with their homework and their yearly exams. Furthermore, I have been teaching IELTS to people who either were interested in taking the particular exam or just improve their English.
I have helped students to learn Greek from scratch.

Finally, since I studied law and have been working at a law firm ever since I keep myself updated in relation to the academic law modules. Thus, I am extremely confident and I am helping numerous law students with their assignments, final assessments and re-sits.

Tutoring Approach:

As a fully organised individual, I am always well prepared for each lesson. I am ready to give the appropriate attention and time to each student in order to achieve the desired result. Apart from teaching the chosen module, I am assisting students to improve their study skills.
Everyone has their setbacks, I strongly believe that what matters is to give yourself an opportunity to learn the correct way how to overcome your obstacles, re-gain your confidence and not struggle on your own.

Personal Description:
I'm an Italian girl from Rome who recently moved to the UK to start university at Goldsmiths College. I was raised in a bilingual home, with an Italian father, and Italo-American mother. I'm sociable and open with an interest in music, animals (I have three dogs back home) and sports, especially sailing. I love children and have experience in babysitting: this is why I'm looking to tutor younger people. I'm looking for a job which will not interfere with my studies in order to make a little money aside from what I receive from my family.

Teaching Experience:

I do not have extensive teaching experience, but in Rome I babysat and nurtured two young Italian girls (6 and 8 years old) for around 2 years. As I am bilingual, on request from the girls parents, I often adressed them in English in order to better their language skills. We played educational games, held conversations, watched films and sang songs in order to make the experience as fun and entertaining as possible. Although I realize that I dont have considerable experience I am eager to learn, and teach. Furthermore I was raised with a younger sibling, and in close contact with 3 younger cousins of which I was often left in charge.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to make it as engaging and enjoyable as possible. Youngsters are often in school for a good part of the day, and to leave school just to be privately tutored for an hour or two may result discouraging for them. In order to make these lessons a pleasure, as opposed to a chore, I hope to employ teaching tactics which will produce satisfaction and gratification. I am open to suggestions by part of the parents, but if left to my own accord I would employ the following activities: conversation, typical Italian games which will extend vocabulary, general culture, cooking typical plates, singing traditional songs, watching funny clips, reading stories aloud, and playing pretend games. If required I will be able to engage in grammatical lessons as well, helping the children memorize verbs, quizzing them, and leaving them assignments to work on at home.

Personal Description:
Hi!

My name is Artur, I come from Poland. I would love to share my skills, with anyone who is motivated and willing to learn!

I'd love to think of myself as thoughtful, caring, attentive, and always trying to bring out the best from people. My success is Your success, as I feel a sense of deep satisfaction whenever I see one of my students, realizing their goals and making progress.

Teaching Experience:

I have three years of experience in teaching drums, I thought children as well as adults. All of them had vastly different goals and aspirations. This gave me a rich experience, as working with different individuals, shows how people have different modes of learning and require drastically different approach.

I learned importance of cooperation, willingness to listen, and speaking the language of the student, in order to get through. Stepping into someone elses shoes is a great skill to have, as it allows me to see the world from someone else's perspective and truly help them.

Tutoring Approach:

I always do my best to get to know the person I am teaching, in order to personalize the lesson and make it suitable for every student.

Why You Should Choose Me

This approach works because we are all unique individuals, and information can be presented and related in many different ways, to craft a lesson that is truly understandable to anyone.

I believe that aspriation and motivation is much more important than talent, so I always treat all the student equally, and make sure that they receive enough attention so their natural abilities can grow and flourish.

I try to be firm, yet relaxed. I belive in encouraging and rewarding the process, not the results, which yields great results in the end.

If You are motivated and eager to learn, let me know as soon as possible! I'm sure we will have a great time and You will develop Your skills whether it is brushing off Your Polish vocabulary, or learning it from scratch!

Personal Description:
Hello. My name is Carol and I'm a transplanted American. I've lived in the UK for over 10 years and I absolutely love it. My daughter Grace lives in Edinburgh with her husband and wee baby boy. And my son Elijah is 24 and lives here in London, studying fashion at Royal College of Art.

I love to cook and entertain friends. I go to the cinema a lot with my son or with friends and I try to get to the theatre at least four or five times a year. I cycle everywhere, and making things look homely and inviting brings me great joy. I read a great variety of things and watch fascinating documentaries. And if I could, I'd travel the world continuously to soak in all the amazing cultures and languages and traditions of the world.

I currently tutor English to students from a variety of countries and language backgrounds.

Teaching Experience:

I homeschooled both my children for fourteen years total. If success is measured by the outcome, my children are proof of my tutoring ability. Grace went on to graduate from University of Edinburgh with a 4 year degree in English Literature and History. Elijah graduated from Northampton University with a First in Fashion Design and is now a graduate student at Royal College of Arts. I tutored every subject to them, and also taught group tutoring sessions in Geography, Earth Science and History.
When my children went on higher education, I retrained as a TESOL teacher, the highest level to teach English as a Foreign Language. I've worked in English schools here in London and taught to the FCE exam as well as privately tutoring English to businessmen and woman from around the world.
I've been teaching now for 22 years, mostly tutoring one-on-one.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that everyone has the capacity to learn anything if it's taught to their learning style and consciousness. None of us sees things the same way....and none of us can absorb things by the same method as another person. It's crucial to understand a person's 'grid', or the way they learn. That only comes from observed feedback: that's when someone who is learning something new digests it and then gives it back in some way (an essay, a written assignment, or a verbal recounting) to show understanding. I call that 'the lightbulb moment'.

I also think that being relaxed and having fun while learning is so important. Good humour is a key to learning. When we are enjoying the company and the environment, our sensors are up and our receptors are open! It's a refreshing and invigorating experience, not a draining one.

The relationship between the tutor and student needs to be safe. It should feel like a safe place to make mistakes or to say, 'I don't understand.' Or to feel very, very excited about understanding something for the first time without being made to feel like 'it's about time.'

I believe in academic success, measured by passing tests, but not limited by them.

Personal Description:
My name is Iakovos and I am a qualified (holding QTS) and experienced teacher. I have been teaching Latin, Ancient Greek, Biblical Greek, Modern Greek, History and Religious Education since 2007. I am passionate about teaching and always looking forward to enriching my knowledge; not only in my areas of teaching, but also in other topics.

I also write poetry. Some of my poems have been published in Greek and Cypriot journals and I have also written two volumes of poetry, which have been published by Anazitiseis publishing house in Cyprus, my home country.

Teaching Experience:

I studied Latin and Greek at the University of Ioannina, Greece. The main subjects of my first degree are the following: Latin Language and Literature (like Roman Satire and Cicero), Ancient Greek Language and Literature (like Homer, Tragedy and Comedy), Byzantine Greek, Modern Greek, Philosophy and History.

After my first degree, I decided to continue my studies at a postgraduate level. I did a Master of Arts in Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies. After, I did a Master in Theology, specializing in World Religions, Monasticism and Philosophy. I am currently reading for a PhD at King's College London in Greek and Medical Humanities.

Apart from my long experience as a freelance teacher of Latin and Greek -at all levels: Entry Level, GCSE, A Level-, I also worked as a Latin and Greek teacher in Primary, Secondary and Higher Education in the U.K and other European countries.

Tutoring Approach:

I am an experienced tutor, as I have long experience in teaching 1:1, small groups of students, as well as groups of more than 20 pupils. Working as a language, RE and History tutor and teacher, my methodology is based on PowerPoint presentations, explaining Latin grammar, for example, through a comparison of Latin and English.

I am an expert user of HOTS (Higher-Order Thinking Skills), which challenge students and help them reach their potentials.
