Personal Description:
As a faculty head of English and modern languages I have a broad knowledge of texts, and am well qualified to meet the curricular needs of any pupil. I have marked Standard Grade folio and Higher Critical essay for the SQA for many years, and Higher Folio for the last 8 years, so am well versed in expected pupil standards.
I would also like to say, at this point, that the reason I prefer pupils to come to my home is because I do not drive and I have lots of materials at home.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching English at all levels, from 1st-6th years, for 24 years.
I have also been tutoring for 12/13 years and in this years (2016) exams I saw all my tutees pass Higher despite some of them only coming to me after having failed their Prelim. All were ecstatic with their result and phoned to inform, and thank,me. This years results have been astounding as of my 8 tutees, 7 got A passes and one got a B. All came for the majority of the year and none were certainties for an A. Indeed 3 were struggling but worked extremely hard and got well deserved A's.

As well as new pupils for Higher last session I also had several returning pupils,or siblings, from last year as my services as a tutor have been retained to now take them through the transition from N5 to Higher. This has been a trend for me as tutees have always been happy with the lessons and my efforts in making them feel comfortable.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a well experienced tutor on a 1 to 1 and group basis. I have tutored at all Secondary levels and will support, and supplement, the teaching materials already provided by the pupils' schools. I will look over, and grade, work done by pupils in school and that set by me. In general, I will identify a pupils weakest areas and we will work hard on improving on that whilst "fine tuning" other areas.
From the Academic year 2014/15 National 5 and N6 Higher students were catered for and I, myself, teach it to my 4th and 5th year students. This will be a very challenging year for S4 as a lot has to be done in a shorter time as year 4, generally have 1 or 2 less teaching periods than year 5/6 yet they have the same work to cover. In addition they have more exams and work experience to cope with. An early start at this would be advised in order to get into folio as soon as possible.

Personal Description:
I am a recent graduate from a music degree course (BA) at Bristol university, I have been learning the piano from the age of 10 and specialise in performance, theory and Jazz. I have spent my last year in China teaching both Music to children and English to Children and Adults but I have taught piano on a one to one basis for 3 years. My biggest passion in life is music and I feel teaching is an essential outlet for passing on the skills and knowledge I have acquired myself.

Teaching Experience:

3 years piano tutoring,
1 years classroom teaching (music and English).

Tutoring Approach:

focussing on the needs of the individual and adapting to whichever level the student may be at. I am a very patient, often laid back individual as well as encouraging so students seldom feel at disease during my lessons.

Personal Description:
I am currently a Physics Teacher working at a college in Greater Manchester.

I graduated from Leeds University with a Physics degree in 2007 and began teacher training at Huddersfield University in 2009. Since finishing my PGCE I worked for 6 years at a fantastic school in Oldham, where I was Head of Physics for 4 years, before moving onto my current role.

It is possible that I could tutor on weekday evenings or weekends. I can tutor students living near to the area that I live in which is Lindley, Huddersfield. Any students in Halifax/Huddersfield that require help, I can do so weekday evenings or even weekends. The same applies for students in Oldham, Rochdale or any other area to the near side of Greater Manchester as well as Leeds. I woukd recommened a two hour slot if the distance is fairly substantial as it will be much easier and cost effective.

I tend to go to students houses to tutor as it tends to be much easier for them and their parents and it is more effective if they are in familiar surroundings.

Teaching Experience:

I am a relatively experienced Teacher in my seventh year of work. I have taught Physics up to GCSE and A-Level standard. I worked six years at a school in Oldham and I am now the Physics Team Leader at a college in Bury.

Tutoring Approach:

I will generally tutor students by going over a topic first, seeing what they know/don't know and allow them to ask and answer questions as we go along. I will then set tasks/questions to try and check understanding of the topic. These will most likely be previous past paper questions from the exam board that the tutee will have their exam with.

With exams approaching the focus turns to looking at past paper exam questions as the main focus. This ensures that the knowledge the student will have gained is tested, along with improving their exam technique and becoming more familiar with the style of questions they will be tested on. We will go over all the misconceptions and look at exactly how we can gain more marks by adapting your approach slightly.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified and registered Geography teacher in Scotland. I'm an outgoing person who is easy get along with and am highly adaptable. I'm currently taking time out of teaching to pursue further education in dance, but am still interested in keeping in touch with the current education system.

Teaching Experience:

I had a very successful probationary year, during which I had a very high pass rate from my higher class. I have an extensive knowledge of the higher and intermediate 2 courses as well as a firm understanding of the new National 4 & 5 courses which will be introduced in the next few years.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is that I try to break the subject down in ways that the tutee can easily understand. I also try to find different and memorable approaches to teaching various aspects of the subject which in turn helps to develop a pupils knowledge and understanding of the subject.

Personal Description:
I am an ex- Imperial College academic who now runs a team and personal development consultancy. I am calm and encouraging in manner. I moved out of the city into the countryside six years ago and have never once regretted it.

I was a Science and Engineering Ambassador for SETNET. I was responsible for organizing a number of Science Outreach events. Science can be fun!! I have a 2014 DBS check.

I have been told that I am a good motivator and that I help people fulfill their potential. All my students show significant grade enhancement, sometimes from U to A!

Teaching Experience:

I was a senior lecturer in Physical Chemistry at Imperial College London, where I was also Senior Tutor. This meant that I had responsibility for the entire departmental tutorial system for some~450 students and the training of new members of staff. I have been involved in small group teaching for over 13 years.

I have been privately tutoring AS/A2 Chemistry and Physics for around five years in the Hants / Surrey borders.

I also help with UCAS applications as I had an admissions role at IC.

I have some experience of working with people with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ADHD and Aspergers.

Tutoring Approach:

Each student is different and I tailor my method to the needs of the student, offering a bespoke approach. It usually takes three or four sessions to get to know what does and does not work for each individual. I try different methods. Some people learn more visually and conceptually others like more practical methods. I prefer to work through problems / exam papers with the student rather than "teach". That way in working together the student takes responsibility for their own learning. Learning is by discussion and doing.

I try to be as flexible as possible and fit round family schedules.

Typically I only take on ~ 10 students per year...

Personal Description:
I am a qualified teacher, examiner and postgraduate researcher working in Cheshire. I have been teaching for six years and tutoring for slightly longer. I enjoy being able to diagnose the issues students have with their studies and then working with them to help solve these problems. Every student is a unique individual with different needs and so I normally like to meet initially to go over an exam paper and discuss strengths and areas for improvement. From there we build an individual learning plan with short achievable targets to gradually build a measurable path of success through the study sessions.

My main work with tutoring has involved me working with students from the Kings and Queen's school in Chester and I am very familiar with how those schools operate and the specialist demand on those students. In the past, I have lived in the South East and worked with students from Wellington College also.

Teaching Experience:

6 years in Comprehensive School.
8 Years as a Personal Tutor
5 years as an examiner for AQA and Edexcel

Tutoring Approach:

Personalised learning for all students. I like to use previous assessment data and discussions with the pupil to ability and confidence in Science. I always find that pupils who begin to improve their ability in Science with me, inevitably increase their enjoyment of the subject substantially. In addition, help with Science study can address and improve weak areas in other subjects through improvement of literacy and numeracy skills.

Please note, there are many unqualified or retired teachers who are not updated with the various changes in demands and marking criteria for the GCSE exams. As an in-practice teacher, I attend various CPD and examiner training events which mean I am tutoring for the most up to date examinations and skills required.

I am very natural when I am teaching. I am able to improvise every time it is required. I define myself as a creative person and teaching is one way that reflects that. I would say that my teaching flows. I pride myself of not pressuring my students and getting the best they have, helping them to gain confidence in their writing and speaking and encouraging discussion. I believe I possess some of the qualities that are expected in a teacher. These are knowledge, good knowledge, patience, good psychology and empathy. Overall I teach with my heart because teaching is a passion for me.

I am a friendly and enthusiastic Spanish tutor who studies English Literature at York St.John's University. I'll be gradutating next year and am willing to continue teaching whilst living in the UK.

Teaching Experience:

I've been an independant English teacher in Spain, and I have occasionally helped students with their A-Level subjects and with their reading and writing skills in English as well as in Spanish.

I'm a big fan of cinema, music and literature, therefore I usually make the tutoring engaging and participative. I am quite easygoing and I adapt to the person's learning pace.

Personal Description:
¡Hola! My name is Estefanía and I am a native speaker of Spanish from Madrid. I absolutely adore learning languages and I try to improve them everyday. My motto is that teachers should never stop learning their subjects so that their students can get the cream of the crop in every single lesson.

I would say one of my strongest points is that I speak fluent English so I would not have any problem to switch back to your language if something is not completely understood, and it is also great if you have just started to learn the language!

Teaching Experience:

I hold a BA in English language and literature and I also have a diploma in teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE). Before coming to England, I worked as an English private tutor in Spain for more than 4 years so I have large experience in teaching foreign languages. I have tutored students from all ages, especially children and young adults so I know what teaching approaches and activities can work best depending on the age group.

Tutoring Approach:

My lessons are carefully designed to address each student's needs so please do not hesitate to let me know what your objectives are! Whether passing your GCSE or being able to chat with locals in your next trip to Spain, I will definitely give my very best to help you achieve your goal.

Personal Description:
I have lived in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in the United Kingdom since December 2009. I am originally from Kumamoto, where I completed a training course at the EII Japanese Language Centre. I have now been teaching Japanese to students of all levels for nearly ten years.

Teaching Experience:

I started teaching Japanese in Kumamoto, Japan 10 years ago. I teach both children and adults and from absolute beginners to advanced level students. After moving to England I've been teaching from my home.

I also have 8 years experience of teaching online using Skype and an interactive whiteboard for students all over the world. I have worked for a major Japanese online school for 2 years.

I have taught students who aim to take the JLPT exam, the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (from the1st to 5th grade), and who are studying for The Duke of Edinburgh award.

I have also helped business people who are planning to work for Japanese companies.

My lesson fees are as follows:

Face-to-face lessons

• Private Lessons : £25 for a one hour individual lesson (at my home)

• Group Lessons
2 people : £20 per person for a one hour lesson (at my home)
3 or more people : Please enquire about availability (at a public venue)
3 people : £18 per person for a one hour lesson
4-5 people : £15 per person for a one hour lesson
6-8 people : £13 per person for a one hour lesson

You can take group lessons with your friends or family members. Discounted lesson rates are available if you can collect a group of between 2 and 8 people.

Online lessons

• Private lessons :
£20 for a 50 minute individual lesson
£25 for a 60 minute individual lesson

• Group Lessons
2 people : £18 per person for a 50 minute lesson / £20 per person for a 60 minute lesson
3-5 people : £15 per person for a 50 minute lesson / £17 per person for a 60 minute lesson
6-8 people : £13 per person for a 50 minute lesson / £15 per person for a 60 minute lesson

Tutoring Approach:

I begin by introducing essential sentence patterns and teaching how to use them in practise conversations. I use role-play to make the conversations real and teach how to speak Japanese naturally. You will soon realise my lessons are completely different from normal language studies at school and find that my method is both practical and effective.

Personal Description:
My name is Rosie and I am a Illustration graduate from Camberwell College of Art. I studied for 3 years mainly concentrating my time on painting, drawing and photography. I also studied my art foundation at Wimbledon College of Art. I can teach students using a number of materials including: acrylic, watercolour, gouache, oils, pencil, pen, print making and pastels. (Please enquire for any other requests). I can teach up to GCSE level and how to create the correct structure.
I am fun, open minded and have a very understanding approach to teaching. I am very experienced and have been creating art work for the majority of my life. I like to use paints and can teach blending and how to create texture. Along with technical drawing and portraiture.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching in an art gallery on Portobello Road for the past two years, the classes were either individual or in larger groups. I taught a few different lessons which included: spray painting and acrylic painting.
I am used to teaching a variety of ages but can work very well with children.
I was also teaching art classes at an arts community centre in which I would teach group classes, these classes were slightly looser and students were more open to using different materials and different subject matter.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching style consists of allowing the student to learn from their mistakes, whilst giving guidance along the way. The structure I use is dependent on what the student would like to learn. Then from this knowledge, I can create lesson plans around this subject.
I am very patient, and realise that every student has a different learning style and approach, so will always try and fit these needs.

I like to use a range of materials with the student to experiment with new techniques and create exciting ideas.
But please enquire if there is any particular technique and material you would like to work with.
I can also teach a wide range of ages!

Personal Description:
I am a mature, bubbly and reliable individual; I have a passion for learning and thrive in passing my knowledge onto others. I am currently completing my Biology MPhil (Master of Philosophy) degree at Newcastle University; I am also a keen musician and have previously worked as a Music Teacher. I possess experience of successfully tutoring pupils of all ages; I take a flexible approach to teaching by playing to pupils' strengths, improving their weaknesses and exploring the best, most enjoyable way of getting new and difficult material across.

Teaching Experience:

Past Experience:
~Biology Demonstrator (Newcastle University)
~Biology Tutor (Self-Employed)
~Junior Music Teacher (Peterhead Music and Rock School)

I have extensive experience of working in educational settings. I was employed as a Junior Music Teacher at Peterhead Music and Rock school. There I taught from the ages of 4 - 40 keyboard, piano and musical theory. I learnt to adopt a patient, confident and professional approach and to build an instant rapport with pupils of all ages. I adapted my teaching style for the needs of each pupil and individually planned all lessons within good time. I prepped many of my students for exams (The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, ABRSM, accredited), for example one student achieved a Distinction Grade 1 piano whilst another obtained a Merit for her Grade 5 theory. I carried this experience on to my role as a Biology Tutor where I followed the curriculum and successfully aided a pupil in improving their grade from a D to a B.

While completing my Masters degree I worked at Newcastle University as a School of Biology Demonstrator. Through the role of Demonstrator I have gained valuable experience of helping to run undergraduate laboratory practical classes alongside experienced technicians and academics. My main tasks were to supervise the students; I would ensure they adhered to safety protocols and promote their understanding of the practical by assisting with any queries they may have. I developed a good rapport with both staff and students by adopting a friendly, hard-working and patient approach.

Tutoring Approach:

As mentioned in sections above; I am a very patient and friendly individual. My approach to tutoring depends entirely on the student I am working with. I very much like to tailor sessions to every individuals' needs and abilities, ensuring that the learner dictates the pace we work at.

Personal Description:
I'm a 19 year old girl from Hampshire in England and I am currently studying English at the University of Exeter. I have received 7 A*s and 3 as at GCSEs from Court Moor School, Fleet. Also, I have recently received 3 As at A-Level from The Sixth Form College Farnborough in Mathematics, Biology and English Literature. I read quite often as well as play badminton.

Teaching Experience:

I've taught children at Primary Level in my work experience in Farnborough from the ages of 5 to 11. I've also worked briefly at Kumon as a GCSE tutor and am experienced in A Level subjects (due to finishing recently) so I am able to tutor this.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a relaxed yet methodical approach in terms of helping the child learn for themselves. This means that I will often explain from a textbook and/or examples they have and also let them work out answers for themselves. My aims are to make the child feel confident about their work as well as learn the syllabus but not so that they have shallow knowledge. Understanding is key in terms of what I am to provide for the child. I am also willing to help with exam papers.
