Personal Description:
I graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2001 with a 2:1 in French Studies. During my 3rd year I lived in Montreal where I studied French, Spanish, and Italian at McGill University. After graduating I qualified as a Teacher of English as a Second Language and spent the next few years teaching English in the UK and Paris as well as travelling to Spain, where I lived for three months.
In 2005 I gained a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages (French and Spanish) from The University of Bath. From 2005 to 2006 I taught in a variety of primary and secondary schools before taking a permanent post at Matravers School in Wiltshire, where I worked for five years and gained internal promotion to second in department in 2010. During my time at the school I prepared students for both GCSE and A Level exams.
I also led trips to both Paris and Barcelona to give students a taste of life in these countries and an opportunity to practise their language skills in real life situations.
I have been working as a private tutor since 2012 and also work as an examiner for both AQA and Edexcel, marking the writing component of the French and Spanish GCSE. I recently completed a Master's in Technical and Specialised Translation (with distinction) from the University of Westminster.

Teaching Experience:

I have five years experience of teaching French and Spanish in a permanent post and currently work on a casual basis in various secondary schools in the Barnet area. I have been working as private tutor since 2012.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe a positive working relationship between tutor and student is the cornerstone of a successful learning experience. I aim to make my students feel at ease and safe to take risks in order to build their confidence and experience success. I tailor-make lessons to each individual student's learning needs and preferences so that the student is always at the centre of the learning process. Both students and parents have offered positive feedback from the great improvement in their grade as a result of my tuition. For example, a student`s grade in A Level Physics improved from originally an E to an A after my tuition, while others attend their preferred schools after help revision for their entrance exams.

Teaching Experience:

After various school placements, such as teaching classes at St Aidan`s (ranked amongst the highest achieving comprehensive schools in the country), for over five years I have helped a multitude of pupils ranging from as young as six through to mature students.
Having experienced rigorous training, I am an Examiner for a major board and have relished the challenges of marking
candidates` papers. I feel this gives me an invaluable perspective when preparing my students for their own tests.
I am familiar with the different examination boards, particularly AQA, Edexcel, OCR, CIE and ISEB. Covering English and Reasoning where desired, I have prepared students for 7+, 8+, 11+ and 13+ entrance examinations as well as the STEP and PAT tests required for the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. With my tuition, students have gained entrance to the schools of Aldenham, Fulham Prep, Harrogate Ladies, Sedbergh, Charterhouse and Latymer. After my tuition, candidates attained the necessary grades for their university offers, including from Oxbridge, to study courses relevant to our preparation. I also have experience aiding with IB and professional skills tests together with Pre-U and IGCSE.
I am happy to offer tuition for all other syllabuses as well, for example WJEC and for free-standing maths qualifications.
I also offer tuition to adults wanting to improve their own maths understanding and skills, for example to help with their career or to pass graduate skills tests such as Kenexa, SHL and numeracy for QTS etc.
I have helped several students with Asperger Syndrome, those with dyslexia and students who are home schooled, have conditions including severe physical handicaps, speech and language difficulties or have had to change school due to behavioural difficulties. Furthermore, I have been trained for and have taught looked after children and also have experience of helping those for whom English is an additional language.

Tutoring Approach:

I find I can relate to students in a calm and patient manner and I have enjoyed helping them through difficulties with their subjects. I endeavour to find and solve the problems students have in their understanding to give them a firmer grasp of the topic, with the benefits from this being increased confidence and improved results.

While my Bachelor's Degree is in Biology and Chemistry, my Master's Degree is in Education with emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction, which means I have trained in designing and delivering effective lesson plans, as well as a complete curriculum. I design my instruction taking into account the student's learning style. The 'one size fits all' type of teaching is responsible for the failure of many students. Knowledge builds on pre-existing knowledge. I make certain that my students really understand and appreciate that. I diagnose any 'gaps' in content knowledge that my students may have, and I 'fill' them, providing a solid foundation for my students to build on.

Study skills, which figure prominently in my teaching, and exam technique, along with a well-rounded, in-depth knowledge of content, provide the key to success.

At the end of the course, my students not only do they have what they need to tackle the Biology or Chemistry Exam, but also a wealth of learning skills which they can apply to other subjects as well, and which they will find essential in all their future academic studies.

Educational technology supplements my instruction. The content in every session is presented on PowerPoint with quality images. I clarify every point and make certain my student has 'grasped' the present concept before I proceed with the next. Where appropriate, the PPT presentation is followed by a brief video which makes the content 'come alive'. My PowerPoint presentations, as well as my notes on PDF or Word files are available for my students after the lesson.

I finish the lesson practicing exam - style questions. It goes without saying that regular revision is important, and I provide my students with lots of past exam papers.

I have a formal teaching experience and worked as a Lecturer Mechanical Engineering. I have been giving the tutorial lectures at Loughborough University to engineering undergraduates during my PhD. Tutoring Approach:

My teaching approach is to create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in which students feel more confident to raise questions. The focus of my approach is to prepare the students for the exams by developing the analytical thinking in order to solve the problems. Personal Description:
Hi! I'm an Oxford graduate with a 2:1 in English Language and Literature. I graduated in 2013 and went on to study an MSc in Psychology at Oxford Brookes, in which I achieved a distinction. Since then, I have been working as an administrator and looking for ways to continue to engage with the subjects that interest me. Tutoring appealed to me at once as a rewarding way to put the skills that I learnt during my degree and masters to good use. Reading English at Oxford has honed my critical thinking, analytical abilities and study skills, while my masters has given me experience in data analysis and conducting research. In 2012 I also co-wrote a novel which was recently published in the UK, which really deepened my understanding of how to write effectively. I'd love to tutor others and help them to develop these skills too! In my spare time, I like to read and write fiction. My main address is in AL7, but I am also happy to tutor in Barnet and the surrounding area. As well as tutoring, I also specialise in editing, copy-editing and proofreading academic essays, job applications and CVs, and articles.

Teaching Experience:

I have successfully completed an assessment for the selective tutoring agency Blue Tutors. During the assessment I had to demonstrate my tutoring ability to a trained assessor, who described my communication skills as 'excellent'.
In my final term at Oxford, I volunteered with Schools Plus, a program which runs after school tuition sessions for struggling students in areas of economic disadvantage. I spent half a term working with GCSE English students, tutoring them on an individual basis in the run up to their January modules. As part of the selection process for the program, I also attended tutoring training.
When I was in the 6th form (in 2009), I also volunteered as a classroom assistant in my school. I was working with students who were having difficulty with essay-based subjects like History and English. I worked with two students in their History classes, helping them to understand the work they were set in class and working through it with them. I had to use my knowledge of French to help one student who had not yet learnt to speak fluent English, translating the teacher's instructions for her and helping her with words she did not understand. Between 2009-10, I helped to run two after-school classes for Key Stage 2 pupils, one in Literacy and Art and another in Drama. This involved planning and delivering lessons to classes of about 5-10 children, and keeping them engaged with the topics they were learning through activities designed to both teach and entertain.

Tutoring Approach:

My experience of tutoring in the past has shown me the importance of patience and respect in teaching. Especially in essay-based subjects, it is crucial that a teacher allows their pupils space to develop their own ideas, and respects their independent thought. Learning by rote has only limited usefulness: the best way to excel at a subject is to understand it, so I always explain concepts as fully as possible and move at the tutee's pace, making sure that they have properly grasped each concept or issue before moving on to the next. My Schools Plus training emphasised the idea that the goal of tutoring is to help a student to help themselves, enabling them to tackle problems rather than solving things for them. I think that this is fantastic advice, and it is a rule which I always try to bear in mind when tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

In the UK, I have experience tutoring for two years in London, Surrey and East Anglia. I've also tutored students for four years across a number of Canadian universities, such as the University of Toronto.

Tutoring Approach:

For younger students, I assess them on their first appointment to see where their strengths and weaknesses are. I then focus the lessons on the areas they need improvement in, using an individualized approach that is suitable for that particular student. I also help students prepare for examinations, such as the GCSE; in this case I mostly focus on giving them tasks and questions that resemble what they will face on their tests.

For A-level and degree students, I'm usually asked to provide assistance with a specific task. For example, I've helped my students construct outlines in order to structure their essays, answer typical questions that will come up on their exams, and proof read their essays to check content, clarity and grammar. I can also clarify theories that are difficult to understand and help students generate ideas for their thesis.

I am a bilingual and bi-cultural French-American. I first came to Belfast in 2009 to study at Queens University. After obtaining my degree, I realized I wanted to stay in Northern Ireland and devote myself to befriending its lovely people, finding peace through its beautiful landscape and sharing my knowledge of the French and English language with an ever-growing swell of curious students.
I grew up in France, just west of Paris, and attended a very prestigious international school that boasts rigorous bilingual education. As a result, I am well versed in both French and English systems of education.
I am also the proud mother of a young boy who is also being brought up completely bilingual.
My interests include art (more of a passion, really), literature (particularly French novels) and food (growing up in France helped a lot!).

Teaching Experience:

I am currently teaching a small class of mature students in the Belfast area. They are at an intermediate level and find the material we explore in the classroom to be highly stimulating.
