I have enjoyed tutoring since 2008. I am involved in venture capital work commercialising technology from universities in the UK and US.

I am also an author and enjoy working with all ages on English Composition and Conversational English.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience in Maths, Physics, and English composition was gained in universities in Cambridge, Nottingham and Sheffield, as both a student and post-doctoral researcher. I have been tutoring since 2008.

I have helped many students to gain confidence in Maths,and conquer the fear of algebra.

I began my Photographic career over twenty years ago, then slowly slipped into Film making as a natural progression.
I have shot photographic projects and films all over the world, and have been an ambassador representing several schools, colleges and universities whilst involved in this work.

Teaching Experience:

I have over twenty years of Photography and Film making experience, working abroad to shoot several short films in Prague, Paris, Africa and China. I have worked with both African and Chinese students in their countries, shooting a variety of Photographic and Film projects, having spent three months, and one month in these respective countries.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is a very relaxed, informal one, giving the student ample opportunity to attempt things for themselves, and to allow them to flex their own creative and mental muscles with support and guidance where necessary.
Students are allowed to be themselves, feel relaxed , comfortable, to be able to make mistakes, without the pressure of being surrounded by or judged by their peers.

I currently work on a one to one and small group basis with students of various ages in a Medical Pupil Referral unit where I am deputy head of centre. I find the one to one contact simulating and highly rewarding. I have taught for over 30 years and am an Advanced Skills Teacher. I have always wanted to teach and love what I do. I am patient, understanding, supportive and highly aware of the need to enable the student to achieve. I work through praise and careful guidance work to ensure the student gets the most from the one to one contact. I am educated to Masters degree level and have taught in both comprehensive schools and special needs units. I believe in a child centred approach to learning and always aim to work for and with the student.

Teaching Experience:

I was Head of performing arts in a school in Dorset for seventeen years. During that time I worked extensively with children of all ages. I have trained teachers and guided those new to the teaching profession successfully through the early stages of their careers in teaching. I have directed numerous school and examination productions which has given me an excellent knowledge of plays and productions for use with English and Drama teaching. I have taught adults GCSE Psychology with a very good success rate. I have just returned from a year as a Graduate music tutor at Wanganui Collegiate School, New Zealand. Before this, I graduated from the University of Oxford in June 2010, having studied Music at Oriel College under the tutorship of Dr. David Maw. I was educated as a music scholar at Eton College, Windsor before moving to the Perse School, Cambridge for sixth form study. Aside of a huge passion and enthusiasm for music study and tuition, I am an avid sportsman having represented both my university and county youth level in cricket. I also played a number of sports for my college during my time at Oriel. Currently, I am studying for a Masters in Musicology at Durham University with a specialism in the orchestral music of Gerald Finzi. In addition, I am also the Senior Organ Scholar at St. John's College. I have recently accepted a teaching post at Brighton College to begin in September 2012.

Teaching Experience:

Having just returned from a year as a graduate music tutor at Wanganui Collegiate School in New Zealand, I feel that I am in touch with both school teaching and more specifically, more private music tuition. During my year experience in New Zealand, I engaged very actively in the life of the music department. I have experience of basic music tuition with teaching of introductory concepts in the subject such as basic notation, theory, instrumentation and historical issues.
Further up the age spectrum, I have taught specific a level modules in a seminar type situation. With a completed Undergraduate Music degree from the University of Oxford, I have an extensive knowledge of theory, analysis, music history and specific tutoring skills in the study of the clarinet, piano and bassoon. I have taught music theory, clarinet and piano privately for 4 years.
This said, I am very happy to tutor at all levels, aiming to pass on my keen enthusiasm in the subject onto other keen and ambitious musicians whether they be starting out in the subject, or looking for extra assistance at A level and/or degree level. My tutoring style is designed to generate as much active involvement by the student as possible. Tutoring time is balanced according to the needs of the client between examination coaching (handwriting, mnemonic techniques, time/mark allocation discipline, revision styles) and subject content (probing and consolidating background knowledge, instilling enthusiasm, analysing key aspects of each topic).

I am a graduate of Oxford University in Engineering and Computing Science. I am fluent in French (as well as English and Polish). From an early age, I had a passion for maths and physics and at school, I imagined how I would envisage teaching those subjects differently. I would often explain things in an alternative way to my friends to help their understanding.
Please note that I also teach engineering topics at university level, usually up to first or second year, depending on the topics.

Teaching Experience:

I have a variety of tutoring experience at both university and high school level (AS and A level). I like to begin teaching with a session to become acquainted with the tutee and their needs.

At Oxford, I studied under the tutorial system which usually meant one professor to one or two students and this taught me to express myself clearly. I often studied one-to-one with a coursemate where learning was achieved through exchanging knowledge by teaching each other.

Tutoring Approach:

I know that every person learns differently and I will be looking to tailor my tutoring style to every student's particular needs. For maths, engineering and physics, I will aim to first establish a thorough understanding of the basics concepts, which is fundamental to making progress in scientific subjects; this will be followed by lots of practice. For French, the key is to be comfortable with the language and I will aim to conduct lessons entirely in French as soon as possible.

I am a senior epidemiologist and Research Lead within a healthcare organisation and I have studied biology, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, parasitology and epidemiology at both under-graduate and post-graduate level. I also have a Master's in Public Health. I am interested primarily in human disease and work on vaccine-preventable diseases, infection and associated Human Papillomavirus-driven cancers. Tutoring Approach:

Relaxed - it is crucial to see how the student thinks and take it from there. Everybody is different and in order to understand where the difficulties may lie, one must take the time to appraise how the student is thinking and which areas are causing the most problems. Using a number of examples, it can often be revealing to the student when one thinks of a scenario in a different way. However, it is imperative that the student appreciates that the attainment of knowledge and the ability to reason and apply that knowledge comes from drive, enthusiasm and structured revision. After tutoring, I normally arrange for students to meet with my contacts in the field of biology and public health so that they may gain some extra practical experience and/or some work experience before their next career step. I have also tutored students who are at various points on the autism spectrum.

I lived and worked in France from 1982 to 1985. I have always spent the summer holidays from the age of 12 living with a French family and feel equally at home in France or England. From school age I knew I wanted to travel and find new places learning the language as I went. I love to communicate and enjoy meeting people and getting to know them and want to pass on the enthusiasm I feel for all things French. I enjoy reading, music, films and French food isn't bad either.

Teaching Experience:

My initial teaching experience was with 'Le Club Francais' where I was in charge of a weekly after school club of 5 - 11 year olds. This was great fun as learning was channelled through games.
My friend's son had extra lessons after school to pass his oral French which he did with flying colours and commendation from his teacher.
A teacher from a nearby school wanted to move to France, so asked for help with pronunciation and grammar.
I have also translated a marketing leaflet for a company in Bradford and am the voice at the end of a help line for French speaking residents who wish to move house.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that enjoyment is the motivation for learning. To make sure that a lesson is visually, orally and kinaesthetically appealing to students will ensure maximum attention span and maximise learning and long term memory retention. I have quite an approachable personality and am a good listener, which is important in establishing boundaries (for both learner and teacher) and to iron out any potential problems or misunderstandings that could arise. I have a very flexible approach to tutoring because every student has a unique way of learning and therefore am always open to suggestion to improve my knowledge.

The program was build using a dictionary, set of rules listed in a pattern and a logic to extract meaning using the dictionary and the pattern. Turkish is morphologically a complex language. However complexity can be simplified by learning the patterns, and then enjoy making sentences using logic. I find learning a language exciting myself and after my degree started to learn German. Through listening to cd's of Michael Thomas. It was fascinating to see that he was using the same technique to teach couple of his students. During the learning process it was their logic that was being challenged more than their memory of words and phrases. I think it is ok to 'cheat' and look up words that you don't remember. Once you start making sentences using particular words and you are comfortable with the sentence you will also remember the word due to the pattern you have built in your mind. Regardless of our individual learning styles, I think building patterns is a more permanent and easy way of learning than trying to memorise everything.

I ve been giving private tuition in Birmingham, and now I would like to continue this in Bournemouth. I am currently doing a research about effective ways of teaching Turkish. I am interested in teaching Turkish because I enjoy teaching, also the experience will support my project. My ultimate aim is to write and record my own teaching materials for learning Turkish

I developed my interest in languages through my degree. I am competent in teaching, and I will adopt my technique based on the individual's learning style. Most native English speaking people in the UK finds agglutinative languages difficult to comprehend, as they attempt to 'understand' by comparing them with their own or some other European language.
