Personal Description:
Currently I am a pupil from Aboyne academy and would love to gain experiences on teaching. I am heading to the university of Edinburgh in September doing Accounting and Finance. I am a native Chinese( Mandarin) speaker. I am more familiar on new higher and NAT 5 accounting and maths courses than others due to I've done it and achieved both A band 1(A*) and I have gained top marks in those subjects since NAT 5 until now Advanced higher.

Teaching Experience:

Help out higher and NAT5 accounting classes and manage to help some of them pass the course and getting As.
Helped younger pupils in my school and they manage to get B grades/ A grades in their exams

Tutoring Approach:

The structure would be
1. Outline the struggling areas he/she doesn't understand by asking and do a general paper.
2. Provide similar type of questions as examples for explaining and practicing.
3. Do a unit level question to see if he/she fully understands.
4. Past papers

My aim is to help tutees build up confidences on the subject and be able to pass the exam for granted and hopefully get an A in their subjects

Personal Description:
Hi, everyone,The academic year is now a term old and things are ticking along nicely for almost all my students of 2016-17. Sadly two have had to drop out of school/college studies because of personal issues which is sad, when the time is right, these two very bright individuals will come back to studying, I'm sure.

I am more busy than ever this year but do have perhaps one or two spaces for students keen to just improve or to transform themselves and their fortunes. However bad things seem, I can show you how make the best of your talents.

Craig

TWO EXAM PAPER NOTICES

A couple of examination paper notices.

1. I am now OCR trained for the new AS level source/essay paper. Obviously this has given me a clear insight into how it's marked and how students need to approach it to be successful.
2. Secondly, the ED Excel Y13 A2 sources & essay paper (three secondary sources): I worked with four students on this last year and achieved spectacular results (these pupils can be contacted; some won't be able to put referees up here because I found all 4 of them via word of mouth and the UK's other major tutoring site). I'm very happy to report that I worked hard and thought hard on refining my advice on the paper and it has clearly paid off handsomely. Do contact me for details; I can pass these on to you prior to your making a decision on whether to engage me (or not as the case may be). Naturally anyone re-taking the A2 paper in 2017 can benefit from this. The new EdExcel History exam has a similar paper so this year's cohort of Y13 students should be able to benefit too.

Note. Because I'm away for the next 3 weeks carrying out research in London and Reading for my PhD I will not be able to begin lessons this year until the last week of September.

Plus:

Important policy change! If your young one or you, the student, is/are one who is not prepared to be coached and trained as our Olympic athletes are - and by this I mean that the performer puts themselves in the hands of the coach and doesn't try to tell them how to do the job - then please do not get in touch: simply pass on to another tutor somewhere else on this site.

---

And now, The Pitch!

So, my name is Craig, a very dedicated one-to-one tutor of History, Politics and English. I offer an exceptionally high level of expertise as a history, politics (and English) teacher, teacher of essay writing, exam writing and exam taking. This is based on well over two decades of experience in schools and in homes. Though I have been teaching a long time, I am continually striving to improve the quality of my work, constantly analyzing the effect of my advice on performance and trying to perfect the art and craft of the job.

When not tutoring, most of my time is spent working (hard!) as a student too! I am just about to begin the third year of my PhD, supervised by Professor Tony Collins of De Montfort University, Leicester, undertaking research in 20th century British history. (Rugby fans might like to note at this point that Tony is the number one rugby historian - of all codes - in the world. All his books are very well worth reading.)

I am exceptionally well qualified. I have an MA (2011) in History and am now two years into my doctoral studies. I have written fiction and non-fiction. I have had experience in being an A level marker with an exam board. I have had long experience in teaching and preparing whole History & Govnt. & Politics year groups for A level, producing outstanding results.

I take on all types of students. Some need a lot of training, some need to be dragged away from a collision-course with failure, some need finessing, some need waking up, some need inspiring, some need a boost in confidence; some need more intellectual stimulation; all can and do improve their writing.

My chief strengths are: 1. I know how to teach students to write. 2. I know how to prepare them for exams. 3. My methods are clear, simple and work beautifully. 4. I care very much about the progression of my students. 5. I treat my work with them with the utmost seriousness. 6. But I'm a human being with a sense of humour! 7. I am very, very experienced. 8. As a parent of three children who have gone through the school and university experience, I understand what both the student and the parent is going through.

I am very happy to work with students online. I have found it to work extremely well.

More on my current research project...
I am currently working on doctoral research into the BBC, sport and social class, 1922-64, with Tony Collins at De Montfort University, Leicester. He is the director of DMU's International Centre for Sports History & Culture, a department of world renown, and the leading British powerhouse of sports history. I am very proud to be working with Tony and within the department. Undergrad students should note that I am working under one of the world's best historians, a 3-time winner of the prestigious Aberdare Prize for Sports Books.

Becoming a student again, beginning with the masters degree course at De Montfort University in 2010 has really helped my teaching. As well as keeping on top of developments in academic history. I am much better read! I know more! It has also taken me right back in touch with what it feels like to be a student and all that follows from that. It has also enabled me to extend my tutoring potential to undergraduates and masters students.

I'm happily married with 3 children fully grown (it's only their father who's lagging behind).

Teaching Experience:

I taught for 24 years in secondary schools in Bromley, Kent and Derbyshire where I now live. History was my specialism but I was head of Politics for a number of years in the last part of my school career. I also taught Geography, Economics, English and R.E.

Since beginning to tutor students, I have taught history, Government & Politics and English (including basic literacy skills to a young person with dyslexia). Courses taught have mostly been those at GCSE and A level.

I have taught a wide range of topics within French, German, Russian and British history. The list includes the usual suspects: causes of World Wars 1 and 2, Hitler and the Third Reich, the French Revolution (and its causes) and Napoleon; also Tsarist Russia, the Russian revolution and Stalin as well as the European Reformation, France in the 16th century, Louis XIV and aspects of Irish and Chinese history and 19th century France, plus 20th century USA. politics (Boom and Bust, New Deal and Post-War Boom, and also the Witchcraft Persecution in Europe (1550-1680).

In terms of British history I am very much up to speed with all aspects of its 20th century political history (high politics, parties, electoral history, social history & economic history, right through to the 21st century, in fact); I have also taught most aspects of 19th history, social, economic and political. For the last decade and a half of my school-teaching career I taught the A level course in 16th and 17th century - The Tudors, James I, Charles I, Causes of the English Civil War, Charles II, James II & the Glorious Revolution, the reigns of William & Mary & Queen Anne.

I have recently added 19th century British politics (Reform Bill through Peel, Palmerston, Disraeli and Gladstone to Salisbury) and Witchcraft in Early Modern Europe to my "roster" of topics.

Since becoming a PhD student my expertise level in terms of content knowledge has leaped forward in 20th century British history. However...

...it isn't the historical content of the course that matters so much: technique is the key; know-how; how to write; how to take an exam; how to prepare for the whole exam period; how to approach the whole thing mentally, psychologically; how to be the best you can be; how to be successful - end of story!

I have worked with students on exam preparation and revision, coursework planning and execution and essay writing techniques. It is here that the battle to improve and to reach a fulfillment of potential, often with the reward of high grades, is usually won.

Tutoring Approach:

I don't tinker around the margins of issues. I give students something all those who come for help require: a method to use to dispose of the problems posed by the issue of writing that dreaded thing: the essay! Not a tinkering round the edges of the thing, a tip here, a bit of advice there, but a comprehensive yet simple and absolutely clear set of actions and principles through which the student can fulfill their potential: show the examiner what they know and understand of the topic.

Following on from the above, my approach to tutoring begins and ends with the drive to be successful. If I did not unfailingly improve students, help them to achieve the grades they want and need I would not be writing this.

In between comes what we might describe as philosophy and methods. It's hard to write about methods without immediately mentioning what I suppose might be my strongest "offer" (I don't much like that word but there, I've used it). As a schoolteacher I developed a unique but simple method of essay planning and writing that achieved stunning results. So successful has it been over 20 years that I am astonished that no one else seems to have found it. But in my experience up to February 2013 no teacher has. Essay writing is still something that many, many students find difficult and confusing. It really does not need to be this way.

Obviously content issues are hugely important and here I rely on my communication skills which have yet to let me down! These, naturally, go hand in hand with a knowledge of British and European history across a variety of years which has grown over recent years particularly through my MA studies, my PhD research and through working with students on a range of historical periods, topics and people. I find myself to be adaptable to different types of students. I am able to adapt my language and my technique to fit the situation. I am also somewhat stubborn in that I never give up on solving a problem. If we have to go over time, so be it!

Finally, some more of my personal philosophies of teaching. I believe that students generally do not achieve their potential. With each student I aim to take them to standards (and grades) that they did not think were possible. Without exception I push, push and push until we run out of time as we inevitably do. I also do not believe in lost causes. Much can be achieved in a very short space of time. I have seen this happen over and over again.

There is much more to be said but that, I hope, will do for now.

Craig

Personal Description:
I am currently the Music Specialist and Music Co-ordinator at a Kensington Independent Sixth Form College. As well as having a strong knowledge of the usual teaching materials, I have also painstakingly collected a number of my own academic resources in order that I might teach the EDEXCEL A and AS level courses as fully and comprehensively as possible. I have provided a selection of my relevant teaching resources at my personal website (google 'Sam Leak'),under the heading 'teaching resources', so that you may view them. The depth, clarity and relevance of this information should be immediately clear. I have a great depth of musical knowledge and a strong acquaintance with the EDEXCEL syllabus. Thus I feel I am well-equipped to tutor any student wishing to learn the EDEXCEL AS or A Level syllabus with me.

(At my website you will find selected notes under the following headings: "Anton Webern - Quartet Op.22 - Movement 1", "Michael Tippett - Concerto For Double String Orchestra-mvmnt 1", "Haydn, Bruckner, Dowland, Bach", and "Luciano Berio - Sequenza III for female voice" (+Reduction/Score Analyses) )

Teaching Experience:

I am currently the Music Specialist and Music Co-ordinator at a Kensington Independent Sixth Form College. I am also an experienced instrumental teacher (piano), having trained up students for entry to various conservatoires - previous students of mine are now attending The Royal Academy Of Music, Leeds College of Music, Birmingham Conservatoire and Trinity College of Music. Alongside having a vast experience of private teaching, I have worked for The Aylesbury Music Centre (Head of Jazz Piano), Brent Music Service, Northcote Lodge School and The Richmond Music Trust. I am CRB cleared for my current teaching positions. I have also recently attended and completed a Child Protection and Safeguarding conference.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer highly structured lessons that are very informative and are aimed at the specific requirements of individual students. Though the teaching process is clearly goal orientated, I aim where possible to help my students to understand the required exam-related materials through a genuine and deep musical and historical understanding.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified Maths Teacher and have been teaching maths privately and in comprehensive schools fo over 25 years. I am a maths teacher at an 11 - 16 comprehensive school where I teach KS3, KS4 maths classes.
Part of my responsibility is to direct teaching and learning within my department, and to do this I monitor the constant changes and developments to do with the teaching and assessment of maths. This keeps me aware of all the changes to the format and style of the exam papers (the specifications have changed and there has been a major shift in the style and difficulty of the questions making them more functional and requiring additional skills in answering them, a fact that some non-qualified, non-up-to-date teachers may not be aware of!)
I have successfully tutored students through GCSEs at both higher and foundation levels and within both modular and linear settings and have experience with all the major exam boards (AQA, OCR, and Edexcel)

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in comprehensive schools for over 25 years and at all key stages. I am currently a maths teacher and a private maths tutor. I have over 25 years experience teaching privately and have an excellent, proven track record having always made improvements to my students' grades, sometimes from 'D' to A*.

Tutoring Approach:

I visit the student at their home for the lesson, which is usually one hour per week (but this arrangement can be flexible). I will perform an analysis to tailor the individual needs of the student. Once the student has a good understanding of the concepts, I teach methods of answering exam style questions, then move on to past exam papers giving them the skills and confidence to do well in the exam.
Following each lesson I like to have an informal chat with the student and family to give feedback on progress made.
I can also offer short booster lessons in order to bring the student 'up to speed' or to prepare for exams that may require only one or two hours.

Personal Description:
Highly motivated and enthusiastic Mechanical Engineering Masters Graduate from one of the leading University in London (Queen Mary University). I have achieved a 1st Class in the MEng course and I have studied many modules relevant to high level Maths and Physics. Furthermore, during my course I have achieved a 1st class in all the Maths modules. Prior to my Degree, I completed A levels in Maths, Further maths, Physics and French.
I currently work at the Bank of England as a Project Engineer on weekdays and I generally tutor on Saturdays & Sundays. However, I can also tutor on weekdays evening to accommodate the need and requirement of my students if required.
I am a friendly and supportive person who gets excellent results by making lessons fun as well as informative. I am considered to be patient and adaptable and many of my students come to me by recommendation.

Teaching Experience:

Since completing my University masters Degree, I have been tutoring maths, further maths and physics on a regular basis. I have tutored and helped many students achieve their targeted grades, many of which coming from private and Grammar schools.

Tutoring Approach:

Each student is treated as an individual and I use different methods of teaching to accommodate the needs of different students. I find that using methods which will develop independent thinking helps students progress.
In the first session I usually prepare a small assessment in order to identify the student's areas of improvement and then address those in the following sessions. I can also help with any particular topics/areas students are struggling at school and help with homework. Approaching exam periods I will provide student with a number of past exam papers to practice and I will go through any question that is not fully understood. My aim is always to raise the achievements of my tutees beyond their own expectations with challenging and rewarding lessons.

Personal Description:
Hi,
My name is Julia, I am a qualified and experienced French native teacher. I have a passion for languages. I am fluent in arabic, and can speak Spanish and Italian as well. However, I do think one should only teach a language one masters which is why I only teach French. I am an enthusiastic, fun and reliable person.
I teach all ages, all levels and prepare students for a wide range of examinations such as GCSE, Baccalauréat, A-level, DELF and DALF. I teach children in a fun way and casual learners according to their needs and levels.

Having studied and worked in marketing and B to B in France before, I enjoy very much teaching Business Fench to professionals willing to have better jobs opportunities or just willing to be able to communicate with French companies, customers or colleagues. My experience also includes medical French for doctors/nurses. I travel to companies for the group classes. Please ask for price.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently teaching at the university of Essex where I have been working for 5 years and in a secondary school. In the secondary school, I am in charge of Year 10. Year 11 and Y12 who are taking their GCSE and As level so I have an excellent experience with exams! I taught in secondary schools, in Harwich High-School and Thomas Gainsborough school in Sudbury.
Previously,I worked in a Primary school in South of France for 1 year with 5 to 11 years old children and I taught French in a private school near Colchester for 1 year where I used to teach children in a fun and creative way using role-plays, songs, art and crafts....

I have experience in teaching French to native/bilingual speakers as well so my method will be adapted to your profile

Tutoring Approach:

I think tutoring is particularly interesting and rewarding. My experience with all levels and nationalities is a real strength. I tailor the lessons to your needs, goal and level. We all have different ways of learning and what works for one can be of no help for someone else so I am always looking for the best way to succeed for each of my students. I like using games and fun activites when appropriate with children but also with adults! Learning a language is a challenge, that of course can be boring, but it can be very fun and rewarding as well. I do think everyone can learn a language!

Personal Description:
I am a UK Law Graduate and TEFL certified tutor with more than 6 years experience teaching English to individuals of all language level proficiencies. I am also a freelance English-Swahili interpreter & translator as well as a proofreader of academic materials like dissertations, coursework, essays etc. Furthermore, I have higher basic level knowledge of French and Korean.

Teaching Experience:

I started teaching on and off since 2004 then seriously took up part time teaching in 2007 and full time teaching after 2009. I have taught individuals of all proficiency levels and with different needs ranging from improving conversation skills or grammar skills to full on learning for absolute beginners.

Tutoring Approach:

First of all I like to determine the level of my students' proficiency by having a simple conversation with them and also having them read a short article/written piece so as to create my lessons to suit their individual needs and their particular level of proficiency. Consequently my approach and material changes to suit each individual student.

I usually create lesson plans according to the students' needs and their level of proficiency. I use different text books as well as online materials and come up with effective lessons. I also use lots of flash cards as they are a very effective way to remember new things. News articles, simple song lyrics etc are also ways I use to make lessons fun but very easy to remember at the same time. I use these especially for conversational purposes to get my students to learn new vocabulary and expressions as well as be more confident speaking/reading English.

I am a very positive person and have full empathy with students barriers to learning.
I am friendly and approachable and like to aim to raise student self-esteem and attitude to learning, focusing on positive recognition of achievements and constructive reinforcement of learning strategies.

I work just as easily with adults as I do with children.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 30 years of teaching experience teaching from pre schoo level up to GCSE level and adult learning for returning to work.

I also teach children within the care system who have missed a lot of the early building blocks through lack of education as opposed to lack of ability. This also includes overcoming huge barriers to learning !

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to develop an individual learning strategy to accomodate the students learning style and empower them to achieve and gain confidence through a positive learning programme suited to their individual style and needs.

Personal Description:
I am a science teacher who loves teaching and tutoring. I have a PhD in chemistry and my subject knowledge is excellent. This enables me to approach a topic from multiple directions to help a student to understand.

Teaching Experience:

For the last few years I have been Head of Chemistry in a selective state school. Previously I taught Chemistry in a non-selective independent school. This teaching experience has been augmented by private tutoring where I have supported students of all abilities at KS5, KS4 and KS3.

As well as teaching chemistry at KS3, GCSE, and A level, I have extensive experience of taking students beyond the A level curriculum, for example, BMAT preparation. I also have experience at teaching physics to GCSE and biology to KS3 and maths to KS4.

Tutoring Approach:

Many students are limited by their confidence and my approach is to take them in small steps from what they know to what they need to know to achieve their objectives. I seek to identify a person's preferred learning style and tune my teaching to achieve success. My first priority is always to ensure the student has a comprehensive understanding of a topic and I assess understanding continually. After a topic is mastered to the point where the knowledge can be applied, I use past examination papers and ensure that the student understands the expected form of answer to the full range of examination questions.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified teacher with 25 years of teaching experience, having graduated from the University of Reading with a B.Ed (Hons) in 1992.

Teaching Experience:

For the last 25 years I have taught in a range of Norfolk schools and also an American school here in the U.K. I have been a Key Stage 2 leader and have worked as a maths advisor, in addition to some private tuition work.

I have a flexible tutoring approach as I tailor make the sessions for each individual. Students have a wide range of abilities and needs, so each session will meet the requirements of YOUR child. I am equally happy to work with home educated children.

I offer both face-to-face tuition and online tuition.

Personal Description:
I am 53 years old, have lived in Manchester all of my life (except for a brief time in Glasgow where I met my wife!) We have five children and usually have one or two foster children with us. We love to do stuff together; camping, fishing, walking, canoeing, you name it, we'll have tried it. By my friends I am known as Bar-B-Q Steve. To my tutees I'm known by a variety of names but mainly as the guy who helped them get where they wanted to get to. They all started in Manchester but are now truly all over the world doing some amazing things; this brings me the greatest pleasure.

Teaching Experience:

I gained Qualified Teaching Status (QTS) in 1987. Since then I have worked in both High School teaching Physics and in Primary School as a class teacher. Five years ago I further qualified as a specialist maths intervention teacher. I presently work at a Primary School running maths intervention programs. I have received and given training in the new 2014 National Curriculum and am therefore aware of new approaches being used by schools.

Tutoring Approach:

Being a current school teacher, I am always keen to find a strategy that fits alongside what your child's school is providing. This I do by studying materials your child brings home, observing strategies which your child uses and occasionally by speaking to schools. I believe lessons should be both educational and enjoyable. There is a pleasure in self-improvement which I will want to build into your child so that they grow in self-confidence through learning.

Personal Description:
I am British but have spent most of my life in Latin America. I resettled in the UK in 2015 and currently live in Birmingham. I hold a PhD in Ethnic and African Studies from a prestigious Brazilian university. In order to be accepted by the PhD programme, I had to demonstrate exceptional fluency in Portuguese, both written and oral. My BA in English from the University of California, Los Angeles (First/Hons) amply qualifies me to tutor in English literature.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently tutoring in Portuguese, English Language and Literature (GCSE, A-Level and Graduate) and English as a Second Language (ESOL) in Birmingham and nearby cities. I taught English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in Brazil for many years. I have also lectured in English and Translation at a Brazilian university.

Tutoring Approach:

I always attempt to establish a rapport with my students to keep them at ease, focussing on the positive before going on to point out areas where they could improve. I am aware that, especially when learning a foreign language, students can be extremely sensitive about making mistakes, so I use methods that are designed to be non-threatening and non-critical, but always constructive.
