| Personal Description: I'm currently studying towards a PGCE in secondary science at King's College London. I hold a First Class Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Birmingham. My Bachelors of Osteopathy Degree from the British School of Osteopathy has given me a extensive knowledge of medicine and biology. I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for science with young people and particularly enjoy teaching physics. |
Teaching Experience: I have been a tutoring young people with a wide range of abilities for 4 years. I have taught pupils at science KS3 and am most familiar with the Edexel, OCR and AQA syllabuses at GCSE/A Level. I have experience of classroom teaching both as a teaching assistant and within my PGCE studies. |
Tutoring Approach: I tailor my teaching style to the individual needs of my pupils and impart a good understanding of fundamental principals to enable students to tackle unfamiliar problems. I help my pupils develop good exam technique and give extensive coaching on answering past paper questions. I encourage students to improve their study skills, for example using mind maps and mnemonics to improve memory and recall. I am patient, methodical and adaptable and really enjoy seeing my pupils getting good results. |

| Personal Description: I am a graduate of St John's College, Cambridge (graduated with a 2:1 in History in 2007), currently studying for a Graduate Diploma in Law at the City Law School working towards becoming a barrister. I studied at Magdalen College School, Oxford, gaining 4 As at A Level and 11 GCSEs, 4 at A*, 7 at grade A. I am required to be at university from 9am-6pm during the week, but would be available for weekday evenings for tutoring. I have a wide breadth of knowledge of History, English Literature, Media and Philosophy, and am able to tutor in virtually any topic which may arise during the study of these subjects. I would be happy to tutor multiple subjects with the same student if required. |
Teaching Experience: I have experience teaching tutorials in History, English, and Media Studies to students of various levels of ability and age, from students aged 11 working towards a 13+ entrance exam, to students studying for A Levels. I have also had three summer's worth of teaching experience teaching international students English as a foreign language as part of STS Language Schools, tutoring classes of 15-20 students aged 12-18. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is to encourage students, rather than lecturing them. I believe that student's own discoveries of the answers to problems they are dealing with are much more memorable and beneficial than simply being told what they must do. I try and teach at the pace the student requires, so that if they are able to grasp a great deal quickly, then I will move the progress of the tutorials along quickly, if they require more time to be spent on something they are having difficulty with then I will happily slow the pace until they have understood. I am able to set homework or not depending on the requirements of the student, and am happy to mark any work done. I would also analyse in detail any work done for me with the student so they are aware of what elements of their work were well done, and which parts might need improvement. I believe that the focus of the tutorials should be on the student and their needs, and so I would tailor the teaching style and the nature of the course depending on the particular needs of each student. |

| Personal Description: I am a qualified teacher and Spanish native speaker from Barcelona. I am passionate about teaching Spanish and I have a good rapport with my students. Helping learners progress and achieve their goals is a source of personal satisfaction that money really can't buy! |
Teaching Experience: I have taught Spanish at differente levels, from initial to advanced, to students of different ages and backgrounds. Many of my students are adults (+18), but I have also tutored students preparing for their GCSE and A level Spanish exams. I have experience as a classroom tutor and one-to-one private tutor: Adult education colleges, Open University, University of Cambridge, and private tuition. |
Tutoring Approach: Initially, I discuss needs with the students, as different learners learn Spanish for different reasons: taking exams, learning to speak basic Spanish to get by in Spanish / Latin America, improving their speaking skills, learning more grammar...Each student is unique, but in my experience it is important to provide variety in the lessons: variety of resources, activities, and teaching methods. Learning a foreign language is challenging, but it can also be fun! |

| Personal Description: I am currently doing an open degree in Law, I have 1 more year left until it is complete. I will then be going into teaching at a Secondary school. I currently work in a Secondary school as a lesson cover teacher, I have just been taken on as an unqualified teacher in Maths keystage 3 & 4 and GCSE Law, also have a lesson which in ICT Maths, this class is based on functional skills to help with the students that struggle with key subjects. |
Teaching Experience: I have been working in a secondary school for two years as a classroom based teacher. Although i have a broad knowledge of most subjects taught in a school, my speciality is Maths and Law. |
Tutoring Approach: First of all I would need to establish exactly what the student is finding difficult about the subject and tackle this problem by giving easy ways to explain it. I have found from my previous teaching experience that students engage in approaching the subject by comparing it with their own lives, this gives them more of an understanding of the particular subject. |

| Personal Description: I am an experienced and qualified tutor - I have a mathematics PhD and have been tutoring at all levels (from GCSE through to undergraduate) for over a decade. I believe any student can become strong in maths with good tuition and a little work. "I am planning on recommending Colin's tutoring to any of my friends who need help. He was patient and made the material easier to understand despite the fact that I hadn't taken math in years. I got a great grade too!" - MC, Utah |
Teaching Experience: * Started tutoring GCSE maths while doing A-levels * Tutored through university career * Have always been complimented on my ability to make difficult ideas simple without patronising |
Tutoring Approach: My approach is to encourage students to look at problems methodically and to help understand the ideas behind the theory by using simple, real-world examples. I teach that it's not just getting the right answer that is important, but understanding how you got there and knowing that the answer is right. |

| Personal Description: I am currently studying for a degree in single honours French at the University of Bristol. I am coming to the end of my first year and having an excellent time here. I am living in Hiatt Baker Hall and unfortunately my only transportation is by bus so I am able to tutor people who are within walking or bus distance. |
Teaching Experience: I have had a lot of teaching experience with the Air Cadets teaching young people of ages 13-18 the knowledge required to pass their exams. This ranged from teaching groups of 30 people to one-on-one tuition. Whilst still at school I tutored two year 7 girls in French and helped them to gain high marks in their summer examinations. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that learning a subject should be fun and enjoyable for both tutor and tutee. I am young and I can still remember what I enjoyed doing whilst at school. I feel that I could give a lot to any tutee and would do my best to help them in any way they require. |

| Personal Description: I'm quite a laid back tutor, and I like to teach in a step by step way so that students understand exactly what is needed in order for them to succeed. I like to draw on current topical issues that students might be aware of and bring them into my teaching to make things more relevant. I love horses and animals, and these are a huge part of my life. Good sense of humour and an ability to make others understand difficult concepts. |
Teaching Experience: I qualified as a Science Teacher in 2006 and was working in a comprehensive school in West Sussex as a teacher and assistant head of year, before moving up north. I've been working on supply to keep my hand in which allows me more time for my horses. |
Tutoring Approach: As mentioned I like to chunk the subjects into much easier topics to understand. Often I find students are over-faced with a huge amount they need to learn and are put off. I use a lot of fun and humour in my tutoring which I find the students relate to and I explain how I learn or remember something which in turn might help them. |

| Personal Description: I am qualified twenty-two year old English teacher and I have recently returned from Medellin, Colombia. I will be studying a masters in Globalisation and Political Economy of Latin America at the Institute for the Study of the Americas in London from September. I am a keen sports fan and I enjoy playing football. I really enjoy helping people to understand new things and I am enthusiastic and passionate about teaching. |
Teaching Experience: I spent the last year teaching English language and literature in Cumbres School, one of Colombias leading bilingual, private high schools. I have also given evening classes at Brooke House Sixth Form College, at Hackney, London. These classes were in History and Politics, which were also the subjects I studied at Queen Mary University for my undergraduate degree. I have also coached an under 11 football team for two years in London. I will be working as an English at Oxford Brookes University for a month in July, which will provide further experience. I will be available for classes from the begining of August onwards. |
Tutoring Approach: I pride myself on always providing enthusiastic and energetic classes, which are largely based on student input. I am extremely knowledgable and experienced in the areas I have offered to teach and I have a genuine passion for each. This is reflected in my tutoring approach and I hope to not only help students develop a greater understanding, but also to instil a passion which is essential when looking to maximise your potential. |

| Personal Description: I have recently graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University, having achieved First Class Honours in my English BA, and am currently seeking part-time work before embarking upon an MA in October. I possess an excellent grasp of the English language, and have a confident yet affable approach in imparting the skills and knowledge I have acquired. |
Teaching Experience: I have for the past ten years, taught in the capacity of a guitar tutor. This has included tutees in their teens, as well as more mature students. However, having recently graduated in English, with some success, I seek to move into tutoring on a subject which I truly love. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring has always been to recognise the individual needs of the tutee, and to tailor my methods accordingly. |

| Personal Description: Dear Students, My name is Miss Menakha Nathan and I am 21 of age. I have graduated with a 2.1 in BSc Biomedical Science from Imperial University. I studied at Tiffin Girls' Grammar School and obtained 6A*, 4A (GCSEs) and 3A (A levels). I believe it is more useful to find tutors who have been through what the students are going through, ie. I have been through the exams and stress you students are going through, so I feel I understand how to get through to you and help you achieve an A grade or higher in Maths, Biology or Chemistry, both in GCSEs and A levels. I ultimately would love to see my students achieve an A* in their tutored subject. I have all the pass exam papers from specific exam boards, such as OCR, AQA, Edexcel etc, and through experience, I know the way to obtain the highest grade is to do as many pass exam papers as possible. I have been taught by great teachers at Tiffins and I hope to shed this knowledge and understanding and their teaching ways onto my students. In addition, for those wanting tutoring with the life science-Biomedical Science BSc University Level, I am also fully capable of doing that, as again I have been to a top three University in London. I have a huge amount of patience, but most importantly I encourage all those around me to pursue their own dreams. |
Teaching Experience: I have tutored many students. I have tutored GCSE and A Level students in Maths, Biology and Chemistry at Tiffin Girls' School. During my time at Imperial University, I have tutored younger year Biomedical students. Currently and during my time at Imperial University, I have tutored many students in GCSE, AS Level and A Level Maths, Biology and Chemistry, with all of them obtaining a grade A or A* in those subjects in their final exams. With all this experience and having received an outstanding education from a Grammar school and top three University, I can assure you I will do everything possible to help my students obtain that A or A*. Finally I spent the summer of 2008 teaching at a special needs camp in America (Camp Atlantic), which involved the use of skills such as patience, encouragement, respect for my students and a good balance between flexibility and strictness. Furthermore, I also tutor for the 11+ entrance exams. Having gone to a Grammar school (Tiffin Girls' School) myself I have all the past 11+ exam papers direct from many grammar and private schools (Instead of just WHSmith papers). Once again the key to passing these exams is through these exam papers. Having gone through these exams myself I can assure the child will get a place into their choice of grammar or private school. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is simple. The key is to teach students the background information and understanding in the subject, then spend the time practising past exam papers from the exam board your school will be using. That is the key that worked for me and helped me obtain the grades I did in school and university. Every time a student is stuck on a particular question on an exam paper, I intend to go back to that topic and revise it fully, then resume to past exam papers. What students often find, as I did during my time, is that all exam questions from a particular topic, eg. Maths-Differentiation, follow the same principle, therefore the understanding of that topic together with past exam papers will ensure your grade A or A*. This is what Tiffins and Imperial taught me and I now wish to teach the same principle to my students. |

| Personal Description: I have excellent theoretical background in theory of acoustic wave propagation in poro-elastic, and rigid-porous materials, in theory of Noise and Vibration, and in theory of Plates, and predicting the performance of poroelastic-splitter silencers in flow duct with the surface impedance of clamped poroelastic plate with cavity systems. I have a strong experience in experimental investigations of fluid loading effects on the plate vibration, and experimental demonstration of the effects of multiple perforated layers in Flow duct. I have excellent experimental experience in acouctical transmission through bone. I have a Ph.D. degree in Acoustics and Vibration from the University of Hull. An analytical model that takes into account the effect of perforations in plates and the effect of the flexural vibrations of plates mounted transversely in a flow duct has been investigated theoretically and numerically, and used to calculate the insertion loss and absorption coefficient of plates. As a part of my Ph.D. degree I have developed, calibrated and used a large impedance tube made of concrete, in the acoustic research centre at the University of Hull. Experimental measurements have been carried out in a large impedance tube (noise barrier), to calculate the absorption coefficient and the acoustic surface impedance of the porous elastic plates. I have investigated the deflection of the porous plate theoretically and experimentally. I have also studied the effects of fluid loading on the vibration of porous plates excited by a point force theoretically and numerically. I have MSc degree in Advanced Materials, Processes, and Manufacturing at the University of Hull. I have a 1st class degree from Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Gaziantep in Turkey in 2000. I have excellent skill of using computer programmes such as; Excel, Word, Access, Matlab, BMU-Sim, ImagJ, Ansys(FEM), Auto-Cad, Mathcad. I am currently working on Stereo-lithography (STL) bone replicas. Stereolithography is a rapid prototyping technique that creates the model in the form of successive layers of photo-polymerised resins. I have used BMU-Sim to generate a range of bone structures replicating a number of remodeling scenario states. I have performed measurements using 100 kHz and 1 MHz transducers on the STL replica bones in a water filled tank. I have developed an orthogonally-anisotropic theoretical model to predict wave dispersion and attenuation in cancellous bone. Data have been compared with the predictions. I have written reports, conference and journal papers on the research outcomes. |
Teaching Experience: During my Ph.D. degree and post-doctorial work at the University of Hull I have done demonstration classes for undergraduate students. I have supervised MSc and PhD students at the Acoustic research centre at the University of Hull. I am still registered on Alpha Tutors web site ( ), worked as a tutor of Math, Physics and Turkish. I helped students to prepare for GCSE exams. |
Tutoring Approach: Tutoring is any act or experience that has a formative effect on the mind, character or physical ability of an individual. |
