Teaching Experience:

I am Head of Chemistry at a large 14-18 Leicestershire Upper School. I have taught at this school for 20 years. I teach GCSE and A-Level Chemistry. I have about 18 years tutoring experience with much success. As well as teaching AQA A-level and GCSE Chemistry, I have tutored OCR, Salters and EDEXCEL. Indeed, one of my private students achieved 100% in an A-level Chemistry module last year and this year another student achieved 100% in an AQA GCSE Chemistry module. My students consistently achieve over 90% in examinations.
I do tutor all abilities and all my students reach their potential and beyond.
I am Principal Examiner for IGCSE Chemistry (Foundation) for Cambridge International Examinations. I also set GCSE Chemistry Questions and check question papers before they are sat.
Recently, I have been tutoring students in preparation for the Chemistry component of the GAMSAT Examination - used as a route into medicine by some students.
I also use Skype and email for online tutoring. Recently I have been tutoring a student using Skype. This has proved very successful and means that I can now offer tuition to students without any travelling involved or who live just too far away from me to travel. • demonstrating a clear understanding of what constitutes plagiarism and how to use the Harvard Referencing system for citation and the production of Reference Lists

At the academic skills pre-sessional courses at the University of Birmingham in 2012-2016 I gained even deeper experience supporting individual students with writing within very constrained time-limits. I guided all to success at their final assessments. I have had very positive feedback and comments of appreciation.

I have taught in various set-ups - whole class, pair work, group work, or one-to-one sessions. I am deeply interested in each student's individual learning needs and progress and one of my major strengths is differentiation. I sometimes prepare material at 4 levels of differentiation for a single class or small group. I use supportive strategies to boost students' confidence, at the same time challenging learners to achieve beyond their own expectations. I approach intense 1-to-1 sessions with the appropriate dynamics.

I am prepared to go beyond my 'job description' duties to help students with 'special needs'. I am interested in their individual circumstances and take them into account, where appropriate. I prepare resources to address their personal needs and interests. I review their progress and involve them in self-assessment towards autonomy of learning. I am familiar with the 'Assessment for Learning' policy and competent with implementing it widely.

I have worked successfully with students with dyslexia. At secondary school, one of my 'high-ability' dyslexic students scored an 'A' grade at her English GCSE, while another participated in a poetry competition. I have had success teaching students with autism and Asperger's as well.

I invest all of myself in my teaching. I am a highly trusted professional and have an exceptional rapport with my students. I am often quoted as a preferred tutor, who 'has the best way of explaining things' and 'is very patient, friendly and cheerful'. All students of mine - regardless whether at school, college or university - progressed by at least one level (even at short-term courses). A student with a debilitating illness on the BME, predicted to fail the course, not only passed it under my guidance, but achieved grades higher than his required level. In my 15-year teaching career I have never failed a student. I have achieved outstanding results at OFSTED observations. My latest annual lesson observation at BMETC was graded 'OUTSTANDING' and so was my performance at NAVITAS earlier this year. Another observation at BCU was unofficially deemed as 'the best on the course'. I have been invited to share exceptional ideas at training events and have also participated in numerous training activities at schools, colleges and universities. I often opt to peer-observe colleagues, to learn from their teaching styles.

Some more examples from my practice: a class of illiterate Yemeni housewives at BMETC, 2011, achieved a 100% pass at their ESOL exams, while 'advanced' international students at the BME, 2012 achieved some of the highest grades on the course. I have been successful dealing with pupils with behavioural problems at Harborne Hill School. Many reported an increasingly positive attitude to learning. I am a creative teacher and try to interest and enthuse students, so that they enjoy learning and celebrate their achievements.

Tutoring Approach:

First I negotiate the times and modes of tutoring with the parents of my potential pupil and agree on fees.
Then I organise a free initial meeting with the pupil and their parents, where I try to establish raport with the pupil. It is important, especially for children, to 'get a feel' of the new tutor and see if they can feel comfortable with her.
Then I try to access as much information as possible from the parents and the child about their progress at school and their attitude to school. If possible, I wish to see samples of the child's school work, or hear anything teachers have said/written about their progress.
During the first lesson I conduct an informal assessment of the pupil's skills - give them a piece of text to read, or free writing or short composition, or a selection of Maths problems to solve. When I get a clear picture of where my pupil stands with a certain skill, I create a short-term plan of work with them. I normally bring materials with me and do not ask parents to buy additional materials. If the parent wishes me to follow a certain self- help book, I am happy to oblige.
I update parents regularly of their child's progress - I try to do it after every lesson. I normally leave homework, designed to consolidate the material covered in the lesson, or develop their skills further. I wish parents to be involved as much as possible with helping or monitoring the completion of the homework.
I try to show my pupils as much respect as possible and affirm them as individuals. I acknowledge their birthdays, Christmas, or other family celebrations.
The parents can terminate the service at any time, with only one week notice.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching English as a Foreign Language since 1994 and have worked in Malaysia as well as the UK. I spent eight years in Malaysia working in private language schools. In addition, I spent two years teaching English to GCSE level at a boarding school.

More recently, I have worked in prisons teaching English to both foreign nationals and local prisoners. I have also taught ESOL at local colleges. I have had some experience of working with small groups of children. My specialist subject areas are English as a Foreign Language, English grammar and pronunciation.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that each student has different goals and needs. Therefore, I adopt a flexible approach to learning depending on what the student hopes to achieve. I believe that grammar is important and find that many students request help in this area. I also believe that reading is very important and have developed suitable resources for use with both adults and younger learners. I also work a lot on pronunciation and conversation skills. Generally, a course will include practise of all five skills with more emphasis on certain areas according to the individual needs of students.

Tutoring Approach:

From my own experience, I believe that learning a new language is similar to opening a door into a world full of possibilities: traveling, getting a new job, meeting new people and, in general, becoming a stronger individual both personally and professionally. In my classes, I like to tap into that part of each of my students that is exited about learning a new language, because that motivation will lead them to succeed in my class.

As a language teacher I firmly believe that in order for the students to succeed, two things must be present in the classroom environment: trust and respect. I have a lot of experience as a language student, Spanish is my native tongue and I have learned English, German and a bit of French and I have struggled with that first phrase I wanted to say out loud thinking that I was going to make a mistake or that it was going to sound funny. I understand that not everyone learns a language at the same rate and speaking in a foreign language takes courage and self-confidence. Courage and self-confidence are supported by an environment of trust and respect. In my classroom there are always ground rules: we are all here to learn, we learn from each other and we must respect each other.

The other very important aspect for me is making sure that the level of proficiency is correctly assessed. If the classes are too challenging or too basic, a negative environment not conducive to learning is created. Even if proper evaluation is made before the groups are formed, there will always be differences inside the classroom. I, as a teacher, try to be as aware as possible of this factor and strive to use that for the good of the group. Pairing a strong student with someone not as strong usually helps. Another important issue that I try to be as aware as possible is preventing the strong students from taking over the exercises and leaving behind other students that, because of either lack of confidence or not being at the same level, stop themselves from actively participating in class. In my classes, I make sure that everyone is heard and that I can evaluate progress of all my students.

Personal Description:
I'm a qualified teacher with experience in tutoring students from GCSE to undergraduate level. I received a Physics degree from Cardiff University, before getting married and moving to Sheffield to do my teacher training and a PhD.

Throughout this time I have been involved in teaching and tutoring, whether more formally in schools and at Sheffield University, or more informal private tuition to GCSE students and an engineering undergraduate.

My teaching seeks to develop understanding, whilst being enjoyable, and generally includes practical activities as well as written and oral work. In this respect I have spent many sessions in primary schools, secondary schools and public spaces (including the Winter Gardens, Sheffield) doing public Science teaching, demonstrations and promotions. This has helped me learn how to help everyone understand various aspects of Maths and Science, regardless of background or age.

Outside of teaching and tutoring I enjoy cycling and getting out into the Peak district.

Teaching Experience:

Whilst completing my teacher training I taught students from 12-18 and across the ability spectrum in all three Sciences.

Since then I have been involved in delivering tutorials and lectures at Sheffield University to undergraduate students in Physics and Maths. During this time I have privately tutored both undergraduate and GCSE students.

Tutoring Approach:

I vary my approach to tutoring depending on the needs, ability and age of the student, but in all cases I'm patient, friendly and encouraging.

When there is sufficient time, students are encouraged to complete some diagnostic work to establish both their ability and confidence across the curriculum. This allows the tutorials to be planned appropriately for each specific student.

Just before the exam, exam technique help and troubleshooting can make a significant difference to the students performance and confidence, even with just one or two sessions.

Tutoring Approach:

Different people have different problems, so it would be somewhat inflexible to have a completely "catch-all" approach to how to teach people.

However, I tend to prefer a teaching style where the student is as active as possible. I usually acheive this by trying to get the student to reason through problems themselves, while helping them along the way. In my experience, this also helps me see where there are gaps in the student's knowledge, and helps me understand their thought process. (It is imperative to understand where the student is in their understanding.) It also helps approach a very common problem with students, which is fear, or lack of confidence - being encouraged to think through ideas and problems which they find difficult in a safe and non-judgmental environment can help them develop a better attitude to their subject.

I also try to offer connections with, and examples from, everyday life. I generally draw and use diagrams as much as possible, or even use props, as I find it to be the most expressive way of teaching.

I am also very enthusiastic about Science and Maths. I often find that this ends up rubbing off on some of my students!

Personal Description:
Having gained plenty of experience both through my own studies and tutoring other students I am able to help tutees look at their subject matter from a different perspective. Given my previous studies and my Masters that I have just recently finished studying for I can relate to students study problems easily and help them with areas they are struggling to tackle. This includes from a study perspective but also the challenges of balancing life with study. Having an outsider take a look at their problems can often help.

I have obtained a 2:1 LLB Law Degree, completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice Course and a Masters in Real Estate. My previous jobs have included residential conveyancing and contract law / management within a recruitment company. Currently I work in the Property Department at DP World regularly dealing with commercial and property legal issues.

I hope that my own passion and determination for studying, learning and self-development is passed on to the tutees to help them with their own studies and future careers.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience in personal tutoring has covered a range of legal modules contained within A-Levels and Degrees. These have included Equity & Trust, Land Law, Contract Law, Family Law and European Law. This has been a combination of one-to-one teaching through the duration of a course or helping students with their assignments by reviewing their questions and giving them my initial thoughts on the subject matter and providing guidance on how to approach the issue at hand or proof reading their drafts and providing comments.

A number of students have also asked for assistance in re-sits of their exams. This can either lead to complete reviews of a module or looking at key aspects which a student has struggled with. In all cases it is important to identify what the issues have been which have led to the re-sit.

Whether a student requires assistance from a distance through online tutoring or a one-to-one approach, I will give 100% to help them achieve their full capability.

Tutoring Approach:

At no point do I write the assignment for students or simply provide them with the answers. This will not assist the student in progressing on their course or make me feel that tutoring is worthwhile. Through my own experiences I find that relating the principles / subject matter to real life situations works best. Depending on the student it may also be a case of repetition on a certain subject matter which they are unable to obtain from their existing teaching format. The most important part is finding what works best for the student and then progressing from there.

Some students prefer to interface in person, others through emails, phone calls, Skype or a combination of these formats. Should a student be close enough in location then one-to-one tutoring is available.

In my lessons, I strive to achieve a productive yet joyful atmosphere and try to adjust the lessons to every student, so that they get the best out of the coaching sessions. In order to have a clear structure during the lessons, I highly recommend the use of tutor books, mostly written by professors at diverse musical institutions. Naturally my aim is to help my students reach their set goals for their piano playing, regardless of the desired level of proficiency. I am a qualified primary school teacher who has taught classes of all ages at primary level. As a supply teacher, I have worked in many different schools and, as such, I develop positive relationships very quickly with both children and adults. I was privileged enough to be afforded a very good private education and originally decided to take on tutoring as an opportunity to share my knowledge with others and allow them to realise their full potential and all the other benefits of a good education.

Career Highlights!

- Academic Year 2011 - 2012 I helped a student who was predicted a C grade at GCSE to achieve a coveted place at Eltham College after passing a difficult 16+ exam, we then continued to work together to secure an A grade at GCSE

- Academic year 2012 - 2013 I helped a student who scored a D grade at AS Economics achieve an A grade at A2 level after 8 months of tuition. He was the only student to score an A grade in his school since 2007.

- Academic Year 2013 - 2014 I helped a student who scored a C grade at AS Economics achieve an A grade at A2 Economics with an impressive 97% in Unit 1, 99% in Unit 2 and 100% in Unit 3. He had also had three previous tutors who he was dissatisfied with before coming to me.

- Academic Year 2015 - 2016 I help a student who had achieved a B in AS Economics go on to achieve an A* in A2 Economics with a 95% average across the unit 3 and 4 exams.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching approach embodies a long term approach to learning I teach students in a way which will allow them to be successful in higher education as well as their more short term exams. I also try to make students more confident in their abilities overall not just the material I teach.

I strongly believe that a solid understanding of basic principles is the foundation to success in academic study. I concentrate a lot of time and energy on instilling these basic principles in students.

I am also a strong believer in understanding over 'rope learning' I ensure that pupils understand what they are doing and why they are doing it, never encouraging them to simply regurgitate what they have seen previously.

I also encourage practical understanding of concepts frequently referencing real world examples and using objects to illustrate theory as I recognise that theory on its own given no relevance is harder to remember. Supplementary to this I also relate teaching material to potential job roles and tasks which I have knowledge of (mostly Banking or Business related) in order communicate usefulness to students and keep things interesting.

Finally I believe teaching successfully is ultimately about listening to your students I constantly encourage students to question things and express anything they don't understand or are not too sure of. If a student looks unsure or hesitant about something I will ask open questions or get them to explain concepts to me in order to fully grasp their understanding. This also helps build their confidence and ability to express themselves accurately.

Personal Description:
I am a experienced fully qualified further and higher education lecturer, and have previously within my career been a Senior University Lecturer and Course Leader in textile design and costume design .I completed B.A (Hons) Fashion Textile degree from Central St Martins School of Art London and a went on to further study a Masters Degree in Fashion /Textile at the University of Central England Birmingham.

I am currently a practicing Surface Designer producing design collections for interiors for high end department stores including Fenwicks. This includes designs for glass art, prints,soft furnishings, bedding and cushions. I currently also exhibit nationally .
I have worked as a practicing designer for a number of years having started my career as a commercial designer in Fashion Avenue New York and London after graduating.

I'm currently based in Scarborough and can meet students at my studio for teaching classes. I'm available for Skype appointments at a mutually convenient time.

Teaching Experience:

I have 15 years' experience of teaching all level of learner's in art and design. My teaching experience ranges from AS, A level Art,Foundation Art and Design ,B-tec ,HND, Degree level study.I have particular expertise in studio practice (art and design), portfolio preparation(for entry into higher education and employment)textiles print techniques and process,fashion,costume illustration ,Photoshop, at undergraduate level.

I am also have vast experience teaching at undergraduate level, having taught ay Yorkshire Coast College Scarborough, Bradford College, Batley School of Art and Design, Huddersfield University studio based and live industrial projects. Having taught costume design for a number years enabled me to also build links within the TV, film, opera dance, and theatre industry. Tutoring Approach:

I take a one-to-one, approach teaching taking the students skills prior learning and individual needs into consideration , this highlights and establishes the students needs and goals of the student, then clearly identifying a structured plan for achieving these goals. These may be results-focused when preparing for a particular examination, or aimed at developing the students skills and understanding of a particular subject area, depending upon the student's own aspirations I am happy to work with any course materials the student may provide, and I am familiar with all A Level and Higher Education modules and syllabuses'. I am able to guide students through their studies, offering consistent support, mentoring ,and 1-2-1 tuition for the full term of the course. I can also provide practical tuition for students who are preparing their art portfolios for University submission, and can offer assistance with references for students who undertake long-term tuition with me.

Tutoring may take place at the student's home, dependent on distance or at my art studio in Scarborough where I can provide a range of art materials and resources by prior arrangement, for more intensive practical art sessions. Please note that I can travel within hour half based on the fee structure quoted below, travelling further will incur a small additional fee.

I am a Senior Lecturer in law at a London-based university. I have more than 3 years of experience delivering lectures and seminars, as well as preparing and marking assessments, which means that I know exactly how to support you to improve your legal skills (and your marks!).

I am passionate about working with students individually and supporting them through their university journey, which is why I decided to work as a private tutor. HOW I CAN HELP YOU:

STUDY TECHNIQUES: I regularly work with 1st year LLB students, helping them to understand how they should study in order to receive excellent marks and continue improving their skills.

COURSEWORK/ASSIGNMENT SUPPORT: I can help you to understand the requirements of your coursework, and guide you through the process of structuring your essay, finding the right resources and analysing the law.

EXAM TECHNIQUE: Studying for exams can be quite stressful, especially if you don't know how to approach it. I will be happy to go with you through your mock exam paper, and explain how you should structure your exam answers and revise for the exam. I can even go over your mock exam answers and give you detailed feedback!

DISSERTATION SUPPORT: Some of the modules require you to complete a longer essay, known as a dissertation. There are slightly different rules that apply to writing those, and it's always good to have some external support throughout the writing process.

AVAILABILITY:

I am currently available for online Skype sessions only. I can do sessions during weekdays both during the day and in the evenings, and occasionally over the weekends too, subject to other commitments.

I have been teaching students online for more than 5 years now, and I use a professional equipment to make sure the sessions run smoothly. I know exactly how to arrange the sessions so that the students really benefit from them. I also have access to a wide range of online resources which I use during the sessions.

Online sessions are so much more beneficial to the students than traditional sessions! For starters, you are in the comfort of your own home which is a quiet environment with no external distractions. This means that you can focus entirely on the session and make the most of the full hour.

You can also start working on your assignment, mock exam answer or editing your lecture notes immediately after the session ends, when you still have in your head all the information that we discussed during the session.

And I won`t even mention all the time you save by not travelling to the session and back home!

INTERESTED IN BOOKING A SESSION? HERE ARE JUST A FEW GROUND RULES...

1. I tend to be quite busy, especially around coursework submission and exam revision times, so make sure you book your session in advance. I will rarely be available for a session if you will want it scheduled for the day after.

2. So that you can benefit from the session the most, I will need to prepare for it. For that, I will need you to send me the topic of your coursework (if you need support with your coursework), the corresponding lecture slides, your module outline and the details of the recommended textbook. You should be able to send these to me at least two days in advance of the session.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that private tutoring should be about me helping you to develop the skills that you need to develop within the shortest possible time (usually 3-6 sessions), rather than ongoing support.

Private support is pricey, especially if you're on a student budget, and so when you come to me we will make sure that there is a plan in place, and you know what type of progress you can expect within a short period of time.

My aim is always to provide you with as much information as I can so that you get to improve your skills fast!
