Personal Description:
After obtaining a masters degree in Mathematics from Queen Mary University I have been working as a maths tutor since 2011. As a result apart from familiarising myself well with the UK system and curriculum I have further developed my experience and teaching skills.
I'm very friendly and passionate with what I do. I'm enthusiastic with teaching and maths, and trying to pass this feeling to my students as well. Maths is not plainly something you have to learn but something fun you can learn. Of course we all care about grades but what counts most at the end of the day is the new mindset you have acquired, upon which you can carry on building within any discipline.
As for my tutoring method, I strive to create a well balanced relationship with pupils. I set clear targets for my students and expect them to develop throughout our sessions. I emphasize on the suitable approach for each individual in order to have the best results possible. Finally, I consider humour an essential part of my sessions as it creates a better learning environment and a more enjoyable session.
It was only last year that I attempted to expand my lessons to the online realm. I've had pupils from all over UK that were looking for the best fit of a tutor, or university students that studied in London but wanted help even when away. Thus, I have now shifted my focus to online tuition and I'm trying to provide the most suitable digital environment with the necessary learning tools and aids.

Teaching Experience:

Have been working as a maths tutor for pupils taking common entrance, GCSE, IGCSE, A-levels and undergraduates, for the past three years.

Personal Description:
Hi, my name is Imogen and I'm 23 years old. I am a recent graduate from the University of Kent and completed a year abroad in Paris. I studied French, with modules in International Relations, Politics and German. I previously studied the International Baccalaureate instead of A Levels and whilst doing this tutored a 16 year old girl in GCSE French - she went from a C to an A with just simple tutoring of the basics. I graduated with a 2:1, with all my grammar modules being awarded a first.
My year abroad was spent with a French company, improving my French by being surrounded by solely French speakers! I returned from working and living in the French language feeling hugely confident in my foreign language abilities across all disciplines (listening, reading, writing and speaking).
Currently, I work in construction but use my French to liaise with occasional sub contractors and supply chain. Tutoring would be my way of continuing with French before being able to get employed by a French construction company down the line.
I believe that I have a friendly approach to tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

As previously mentioned, I tutored a 16 year old girl in GCSE French. Over the 9 month period, we improved on her basic grammar skills and reading and listening skills also. As well as this, I have helped (not necessarily tutored, but essentially, tutored) several friends at different subjects that we both studied, particularly GCSE History and IB Biology Standard. I have a brother who sat his GCSEs in June 2013 and as most of our subjects were the same, I tutored him and tested him often in the subjects that I took at IB. From this site, which I joined in December 2012, I gained one student very quickly and during our 4 months tutoring sessions, she improved her basic understanding tremendously, progressing from a D to a B for her oral exam in April. My tutoring has continued as part of my job at a school, holding outside the classroom small group sessions, as well as being a tutor for my landlady in French. My success rate demonstrates my ability to work well as a tutor.

Tutoring Approach:

In terms of my approach to tutoring, I like to assess what the tutee finds difficult and try and work in a different way to how they are accustomed to to see if it helps at all. I draw a lot from my experiences as a student as I have found the ways in which I have been taught very easy to understand. I would like to say that my approach is a lot more suited to children because, like them, I am a student too and I understand what they are coping with and how their mind works. Listening is of key importance and I make sure that I listen to what my tutee is trying to say.

PLEASE NOTE: Although I tutor GCSE History, I would like to specify that it would just be for the Germany option.

Personal Description:
I am a 22 year old who is currently working at RWS translations group in Chalfont St Peter. I have recently graduated from Durham University with a 2.1 BA in Modern Languages (French and Italian). I also studied Spanish up to 2nd year. I enjoy speaking different languages and try to pass on my enthusiasm for languages to others.

Teaching Experience:

My third year at University was spent abroad. I chose to teach in France for 7 months in two primary schools which I very much enjoyed. I loved to chat to the children and try to get them to see the importance of learning English. I also au-paired for three months in Italy during my Year Abroad, which involved private lessons with a 7 year old. I have also previously tutored French, which included exam preparation, focusing on problematic areas and improving confidence. I understand how difficult languages can be, I believe I can sympathise with the student. The lesson must be fun and the student needs to understand the importance of learning a language, in order to be enthusiastic about it.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe languages are crucial in education. Throughout university I took part in Routes into Languages, a consortium of universities working together with schools and colleges, to enthuse and encourage people to study languages. This role involved planning taster classes for small groups, introducing a new language into their education and broadening their knowledge of the world and different cultures. I particularly enjoyed this role as I was enable to communicate the importance of languages and perhaps inspire some of the children to carry languages on past year 9.

Personal Description:
I'm an enthusiastic driven person. I take pride in my work and I'd like to do it well. In my spare time I like to be active and go sailing, diving or wake boarding.

Teaching Experience:

I taught for 7 months in a Belgian secondary school. I taught 11-14 year old children Latin there. I've also taught Life Science and Art History to 14-16 year olds. My appointment was temporary and so I went on doing something else. From time to time I have been asked to do some tutoring. I hope this way I can help educate the new generation that is willing to learn.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe anyone can learn anything though depending on our skills some people just have to put in extra effort to get the same results. I therefore try to help in easing and structuring this extra effort. Finding the bottle necks in the way of studying, offering a new vision on subjects, providing a different background and helping to make personal schedules to keep up with work is my way of tutoring. As far as Latin goes next to this it just takes practice.

Personal Description:
I am a dedicated and a compassionate individual. Currently studying for my law degree. During the weekends I work in retail which enables me to gain outstanding communication skills with people of all ages. For GCSES I achieved outstanding grades for all my 11 subjects. Furthermore at A-level I studied 5 subjects; English Lit, History, Law, Spanish and Sociology. I have access to past papers and useful revision books, my own notes from A-level and other resource materials. I feel education is one of the most important and essential things in life therefore everyone ought to take advantage and increase their knowledge! Due to my age, and having done exams not too long ago myself I feel very confident in helping students overcome exam stress and coursework pressure.

Teaching Experience:

I enjoy teaching, so in 2010 I did voluntary work abroad in a third world country where I taught under privileged youngsters. It was an amazing experience and the satisfaction of knowing you've actually taught them something is beyond describable!
Currently, for my law degree I have to go to primary and high schools in the borough to enlighten students about their basic rights if stop and searched by thr police.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring is the perfect job for me because I feel it will not only benefit the students, but it will benefit me too for my aspired career. Majority of students set themselves quite drastic and unrealistic goals, therefore, as a tutor I can actually observe them and set them personal goals which will help them attain their best in exams.

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic and experienced teacher with a real passion for languages. This has led me to travel widely within Europe and amass a great deal of experience of other cultures. That and my belief in 'having a go' at communicating has led me to learn the basics of quite a few languages and given me plenty of material for (short) 'instructional anecdotes', based on various scrapes and international misunderstandings! Languages should be fun and we should never be afraid to try them out! My other passion is music - a truly international language - and I enjoy my weekly instrumental lessons and playing with my local (amateur) orchestra.

Teaching Experience:

I hold degree level qualifications in English, French, Spanish and German and have over 30 years' experience of teaching languages, in both private and state schools and Sixth Form and Further Education colleges, where I have prepared students for a range of examinations and other qualifications. I have particular expertise in helping students bridge the gap between GCSE and AS level - and I love grammar! I have also worked as a private tutor and as a provider of courses and interpreting services for local businesses. My students have ranged in age from 8 to 80-plus. I teach Spanish and French to A level and can also offer German and Italian to intermediate level and basic introductory courses in Russian and Latin. I also offer conversational English for speakers of other languages.

Tutoring Approach:

Lessons can be in my home or at a venue of your choice, within a 5-mile radius. I can travel further afield, but would need reasonable time and travel expenses. I can offer day-time or evening lessons, any day of the week. My hourly rate is £25, though I also offer lessons of 30 or 50 minutes (pro rata). The same rate applies irrespective of the group size. Tutoring can be 1-to-1, small-group or, if you can provide a suitable venue, in a group of up to 15. I can offer intensive tuition or courses of various lengths (though exam candidates must make their own arrangements to sit papers). Alternatively, I can offer coaching and support for those already studying elsewhere. Each course is tailor-made to suit your exact requirements - and I aim to make each lesson fun!

Personal Description:
I am a recently retired Clinical Scientists (registered). I am married with a son and I am a youthful 67 year old with an 8 years old son! We are a non smoking family. My involvement with "mathematics", at various levels, dates back to when I left secondary school (Blackpool) in 1964 and worked for the Civil Service for 5 years. I was in an accounts division and passed two additional maths (and eventually English!) O'Levels via evening classes as well as enjoying the 60s and playing bass guitar in local groups. I took a 1 year full time A''Level course (Maths, Further Maths and Physics) and subsequently read for a Mathematics degree (Physics subsid.) at the University of Nottingham (1970-73). During this time, I had 3 vacation studentships with different departments of the Scientific Civil Service. After graduating, I worked for around 15 years as a computer programmer / analyst during which time I passed an HND in Computer Studies (University of the South Bank, London). Although I was 40 years old when I was made redundant from a communications company, I decide to make a significant career change and return to my "roots" and look for scientific work where my mathematical skills would be better used. After 2 years as a Medical Laboratory Scientific Officer in the lung function laboratory at the Royal Brompton, I had the tools and experience to apply for a research post in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at the Royal Post Graduate Medical School (RPGMS, Hammersmith Hospital).

I retired in 2014 after 25 years as a researcher / Clinical Scientist at the RPGMS and Royal London. A large part of my research involved mathematical analysis of breathing patterns and flow-volume curves. This involved developing techniques and algorithms for alternative methods of assessing "lung function". I published many papers in international medical journals and all included a significant maths / stats content. During this time, I took evening classes obtaining additional A' Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Statistics and then read for an M Sc in General Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Kings College London. In 2005, my portfolio was reviewed by the Health Professions Council and I registered as Clinical Scientist, which is a protected title, The main reason for the additional qualifications was my passion for learning and the thrill of sitting examinations and testing myself. The addition A'Levels and M. Sc. were taken for the challenge and pleasure and were not directly relevant to my career. One important reason for offering private tuition is my love of teaching / learning and I miss my close involvement with the "sciences". I have been accepted as a Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) ambassador and I have an enhanced DBS check certificate.

Teaching Experience:

Although, I do not have formal teaching qualification and I only started offering private tuition at the beginning of 2015, I am a patient person who has tutored a range of tutees from Common Entrance Exam level to adult learner including CGSE students for both Mathematics and Statistics.

However, my "teaching" roles / experiences go back to the mid 60s helping friends struggling with the Civil Service maths entrance exams and later, post graduation, I taught maths, unpaid, to several children of friends as well as adult friends and colleagues who needed to obtain better qualification. My research positions included (i) formal teaching / lecturing roles at all levels e.g. work experience students, medical / nursing students, visiting medics, junior members of the lab staff as well as registrars and consultants; (ii) presenting the research at local, national and international meetings and (iii) giving guest lectures on B. Sc. and M Sc. courses.

In my research / technical support work, I found particular pleasure explaining to children and parents the purpose and science that underpinned the tests and the analysis and interpretation of the results. This was a unique experience for almost all of them. It gave them and me a lot of pleasure and improved the success problems. In my own time, I helped patients, some who missed a lot of school time due to their problems, with both school work in the sciences and others with projects related to the maths and biology of their respiratory problems. Invariably, they ended up knowing more than their teachers!

Tutoring Approach:

As George Orwell never said "All tutees are not the same but some are more different than others".

I have a variety of approaches, depending on factors such as (i) whether the tutee needs teaching or revision; (ii) the number of lessons the tutee can fit in before the exam; (iii) their strengths and weaknesses, as well as their interests; (iv) whether the tutee is struggling to keep up or a flyer needing to ensure an A* (v) the length of the sessions 45-90 mins and whether it is one or two session a week and (vi) the work they are able to do between sessions.

However, there are aspects that are common to all tutees: before starting the lessons, I am happy to meet for a chat (no charge) to spend as long as necessary clarifying important issue such as (i) which board, level and paper they will be sitting; (ii) the text book they use and which parts of the syllabus have been covered and whether any need revising or explaining and (iii) wherever possible, obtaining suggestions and feedback from their teachers including where marks had been lost in recent exams.

Other aspects of my approach include (i) the tutee attempting appropriate questions / papers from other boards to encourage and foster "thinking outside the box" and, thus, to be prepared for questions that do not fit the usual mode; (ii) e-mailing questions of papers in advance of session to allow adequate time for preparation; (iii) feeding back how sessions have gone and suggestions for changes and being available between session via e-mail; (iv) moving up and down the difficulty ladder depending on the progress; (v) working on exam technique and teaching how to not misinterpret questions, sometimes, badly written; (vi) preparing tutees for difficult topics about to be taught at school, to ensure they get the most out of upcoming lessons; (vii) using examples from everyday life to demonstrate the use and usefulness of maths and statistics outside of the classroom and (viii) building up confidence and aiming to engender a passion and love of the subject and learning, in general.

I make extensive use of marking schemes and examiners reports to discuss how the tutee may have obtained the correct answer but lost marks due to not showing their working or lost time providing irrelevant details and this has been very successful and interesting for the tutees.

Some of my feedback:
(i) As a Year 11 student, Peter has been providing me with extra mathematics tuition during the final months before my GCSE examinations, offering distinct, concise teaching within a relaxed but highly enjoyable and yet professional environment. As a mathematician, Peter has aided me in approaching mathematics from a somewhat more lateral perspective, exploring multiple methods that could be employed to solve a challenging question; a form of thinking that is seldom used within a typical school environment. Peter's abundant, infectious passion for both his tuition and mathematics manifests itself within his unswerving support and guidance during our sessions together, delivering a uniquely engaging teaching environment within which to learn, but most importantly, to enjoy learning mathematics!"

(ii) Parent of a Year 11 school girl: Hello Peter, thank you for your follow up, your emails always have an interesting flair about them. We also enjoyed our meeting and Ebony particularly liked your relaxed approach to the subject, for that reason alone I think she would benefit from being able to ask questions without feeling awkward about what she doesn't understand, most importantly I agree with your 'spades a spade' philosophy in how to interpret the syllabus into the real world.

(iii) Teacher's reply to an e-mail from the mother of a Common Entrance school boy: Thank you for your email. I am pleased Edward has a good tutor and is happy doing extra Maths. The best paper to prepare Edward for our end of year test would be a practice SATs test as they follow a similar format to ours.

(iv) A recent GCSE student, EDEXCEL Higher, via his mother: Peter, I obtained and A in my Stats paper and B in my maths paper and I was told by my teacher that it might be worth remarking, as I was only several marks away from the A Grade)

Consulting the 'breakdown' of my overall Mathematics grade, it appears as though I (thanks to your support) did exceptionally well within the non-calculator paper (the equivalent of a very high A/ very low A* in terms of marks), but it was simply a few questions at the end of the calculator paper (that seemed to baffle everyone, regardless of ability) that partially pushed my overall grade down.

Once again, thank you for all of your support and guidance; I certainly would not have been able to achieve my result within the NON-calculator paper, the paper that I claimed was more intimidating, without our sessions within the Library. You have improved not only my proficiency, but also my confidence in Maths enormously and for that I cannot thank you enough.

(v) Father of a schoolgirl (EDEXCEL Higher): "E" did very well overall and passed all 13 ! In Maths she was one point off a B so of course that's a C. I think we will request a remark for the maths paper. Many thanks again for your help in the past, best wishes.

Personal Description:
I am a dedicated English and Media academic with a Masters Degree in English, a First Class Degree in Scriptwriting for Film and Television and a Masters Degree in Directing Digital Film & TV.

I also have a PAL certification for classroom based tutoring.

I can provide teaching in Film Studies, English (inc. GCSE, A'Level, English as a Foreign Language, Degree level and Basic and Reading and Writing skills), Communication Studies and Screenwriting.

I currently offer private tutoring, both online and in person to teenagers, college students, university students and adult learners, offering a patient and caring approach. My teaching and therefore my hourly rate is affordable as I do it for the love of the work.

As well as undertaking work for with the BBC (something the media / film students tend to be interested in) I have also worked on a number of feature films / short films, had articles published and I have won awards for my writing). Therefore, I have a considerable amount of practical and academic knowledge across the media industry, suitable for English, Film and Media Disciplines.

I really care about my students and helping them achieve their goals. I truly believe that anyone can do it if someone believes in their potential. Whether they are just starting out or if they are a mature learner. Everyone deserves to be the best they can be.

Teaching Experience:

For the last 9 years I have been providing a broad range of academic training courses and tutoring to students and adult learners in GCSE / A'level English, Digital Media and Scriptwriting, but I have also offered more basic reading / writing skills.

I currently work with a number of private students from GCSE level through to A' level and beyond, helping them achieve their goals and supporting them with the challenges that inevitably come with preparing and passing exams.

I have delivered classes to university level students, college students, school students and business owners across a wide range of disciplines.

I am always happy to provide references for my work too, so you can be assured of a great level of service.

Due to my work, I have a fully enhanced CRB check which is available for viewing.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe learning through association with what you know, is the easiest way to tutor people of all ages. It generally helps students to identify more easily the knowledge they need to pass their exams.

Being very patient, I find it's better to adapt my tutoring to the individual, rather than apply a 'one size fits all'. This means a better success rate as different students have different strengths.

I usually like to assess learners at the beginning of meeting them / talking to them and then devise a target plan to help them achieve learning goals.

ONLINE TRAINING

At the moment, I offer English GCSE / A'Level, Media, Film Studies, English as a Foreign Language and bespoke University tutoring support, as well as reading and writing skills. I provide full support and 'real time' lessons with a clear structure. Each element is specific to the student being taught.

So if you are looking for a friendly tutor who will encourage you to speak better English or you want to tackle an essay or prepare for an exam, or you want to brush up on the basics, I can help.

I can deliver online tutoring at a time to suit you on an ad-hoc or more regular basis.

Whether you want help with GCSEs, A levels, basic skills, you would like help with media / communication studies or you would like to get to grips with some basic English, I can provide a positive and friendly approach that will actually help you and a very thorough teaching method.

FILM STUDIES

I cover the following areas:

Exploring Film
Exploring Film outside Hollywood
Exploring and creating
The 'language' of film
The organisations which produce, distribute and exhibit films and
The audiences for film.
Narrative

Storytelling

I'm an award winning writer, and media professional so am fully up-to-date with the latest techniques / syllabus requirements.

ENGLISH

Broadly speaking I cover the entire syllabus of the relevant level being studied for and the different areas in that level;

A'Level
GCSE
Literature study
Language
Grammar
Punctuation
Comprehension
Essay writing
Essay planning
English tools
Poetry study
Creative writing
Communication
Comparative analysis
Language acquisition
Basic reading
Basic writing

This list is not exhaustive but it should give you an idea.

I am particularly good with shy students or those who lack confidence.

I can travel to you within a reasonable distance at no extra cost or I can provide structured lessons online.

Should you want to use my services and you are outside of my catchment area, I can help but my hourly rate would reflect the distance / time to get to you, if it is outside of the travel radius I serve.

Personal Description:
Hi, I'm a dental student at University of Glasgow. I completed my Edexcel A level with a result of 1A*3As (maths, biology, chemistry and physics). I grow up in mandarin speaking family, and thus I can write and speak Mandarin eloquently. In the final national exam of high school back in Malaysia (We called it SPM-equivalent to GSCE), I achieved 10A* (Chinese, Malay, English, maths, additional maths, biology, chemistry, physics, moral studies, history) including Chinese subject which proves to be the hardest subject to get A*.

Teaching Experience:

Currently tutoring a Scottish girl Higher Mandarin. I used to help my classmates on the topics which they find it hard to understand when I was in my high school and college. They find my teaching to be useful.

Tutoring Approach:

Target on the topic which the individual finds it hard to understand. It will be good if you can tell me what topic/particular part that you would like to be taught, so that I can prepare beforehand and ensure the one hour is worth well.

Personal Description:
I'm well grounded in Finance, Banking, Accountancy and other Business related disciplines, regularly scoring 70+ in core finance subjects as a student. I'm a qualified Chartered Accountant and Chartered Banker with extensive practical experience in Accountancy, Credit Control, Business Management and Strategy. I have a MBA specialising in Finance and was a meritable student during my time in the University.

Teaching Experience:

Along with my practice experience, I've acquired years of experience in tutoring at GCSE, A levels up to meeting the educational needs of University students. I led student revision classes as an ACCA student and group research with integrated study of multinational corporations as an MBA student.

Since I qualified as a Chartered Accountant, I've helped many ACCA/ICAEW/AAT students towards the path of success in their professional exams. Inclusive of this success stories are University students in business related courses.

Direct your tutoring needs towards me and let's together put you on the success path you desire.

Tutoring Approach:

I place emphasis on engaging in intellectual interaction with the pupil as it enables me assess his/her depth of knowledge in the subject I'm tutoring for. It also allows me to define the pattern of analysis to employ to drive home my ideas more effectively as every individual is different in the way their thought process works.

For complex analysis, I draw from my practice experience to substitute complex terminologies and formulas with everyday items/words/events to simplify ideas and make them easily understandable in the preferred terms of the pupil.

Finally, I continuously switch my position and become the student while the student gives back what he's learnt to ensure the knowledge sinks in as intended.
