Personal Description:
Originally from Newcastle, I am now an actor and enjoy tutoring alongside my acting work. I have worked in TV, and also in theatre, including venues such as The National Theatre and the West End. Especially with younger students, I like to keep my lessons creative and practical. I studied English and Drama at Bristol University and then went on to train at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Recently, I have been tutoring in English, Drama, 11+ Common Entrance exams and general Primary school help.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for over 6 years. Alongside my tutoring, I am currently teaching Music and Drama in schools and I run workshops with Sixth Formers on ways of analysing texts practically.

7+ - I worked with Elektra (6) preparing her for 7+ Examinations. Covering English, Maths and Reasoning focussed on entry to Notting Hill and Ealing High School.

7+ - Working with Harry on English, Maths and exam technique, focussing him for 7+ exam for Dulwich Prep School. Harry has traits of both dyslexia and dyspraxia.

7+ - I work with Jules on his English. Jules is French and has just started attending a French school, so we are working to keep his English up to scratch. Main areas of focus are: speaking, spelling, listening/understanding and grammar.

7+ - Working with Charlie mainly on English, increasing his confidence in all areas but focussing on Writing, Grammar and Punctuation, and Comprehension.

11+ - Working with Guy on English and Maths one day a week. Mainly focussed on Guy's writing and spelling. Guy is preparing for entry to Westminster and Eton Schools.

11+ - I worked with Ingrid on English and Maths in preparation for exams for Notting Hill and Ealing High School, Francis Holland and Godolphin and Latymer Schools. Ingrid went to her first choice of Notting Hill and Ealing High.

11+ - I worked with Olivia in preparation for her Common Entrance exams on all papers (English, Maths, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning) as well as interview practice. Olivia is now attending North London Collegiate School (her first choice) but I also prepared her for entrance to Highgate School for Girls, City of London School for Girls and Queen's College.

Primary Help - I worked with brothers Teddy (7) and Alfie (10) mainly on English and Maths but also across all subjects generally to improve knowledge, confidence, spelling and vocabulary.

Primary Help - I worked with Rohan (10) on improving his confidence and basic skills in English and Maths. Rohan was very inquisitive and keen but needed help focussing and answering the specific questions that he was being asked.

A Level English Literature (AQA) - worked with Oliver (17) helping with coursework on The Great Gatsby and the poetry of Keats and Larkin. Oliver achieved an A grade.

AS Level Drama (AQA) - helped Yasmin to explore the analysis of texts of Lady Windermere's Fan and A View From The Bridge in preparation for exams, in which she achieved an A.

GCSE English Literature - tutored Amy in preparation for coursework and exams. Texts: Lord of The Flies and A View From The Bridge.

SKYPE - I teach Pietro (11) English as a Second Language weekly online.

Home Schooling - Inigo (6 when I started) had been getting reports of generally dropping behind in class work with a lack of concentration. I homeschooled him every Friday for two terms. He was having particular trouble in English and Maths. Inigo was struggling especially with English, in all areas, and was most behind with Spelling and Grammar. For him to engage, I had to be both creative (to keep him interested) but also quick as the plan was to get him into Kew Green Primary for the next academic year. We covered the basics of year 1 and ironed out any problems (also to give him confidence with the things he could do) and then went onto year 2. I would use a lot of what he was naturally interested in (football and particular comic book characters) in the teaching to keep his attention. With Maths, Inigo could do simple addition and subtraction but struggled when getting into 2 digits, multiplication, or any sort of wordy problem where the sum to be done was not absolutely clear. So, again, we covered the basics and then pushed on. He worked really hard and eventually we were looking forward to things he may encounter next year. At first Inigo was quite reluctant to work but I managed to win him over and build up a good rapport for productive days of homeschooling. Thankfully, he gained a place at Kew Green, and we were delighted! (Though it did mean, unfortunately, that he didn't need me any more...).

English for Foreign Learners - Helped 8 year old Augustinos (Greek) with reading and homework to improve English, as well as taking him on educational trips around London.

Drama (practical) - Coached Emily (21) and Hannah (20) with acting lessons in preparation for Drama School Entry auditions. Emily has now trained at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and Hannah is training at LAMDA.

Voice and Elocution - Helped Law Student Amar (20) with speechmaking and projection for use in debating.

SEN - worked with Dean (20), a law student with dyslexia, upon exam preparation and practice.

Tutoring Approach:

I will tailor whatever I teach to my pupil's needs. I am very easy to get along with and very open to how you think you or your child will best learn. Above all I would want a pupil to look forward to my sessions with them so will make sure that they are practical, interesting and varied. Especially with the younger students I teach I think that lessons need to be fun to keep them excited about learning! Tutoring Approach:

I believe each student is unique. and as a tutor I respect that uniqueness .Basically my first step towards a new student would be, to understand his/her uniqueness , hence find the student's weakness and strengths . so I would be able to help the student to overcome his/her weakness and strengthen pupil's current knowledge.

I may use different styles of teaching methods, depending on the student's ability and attitude. My main method is "student first" method. That is, I would first listen to the student what he/she got to say about a particular problem. and then I would guide the student to work through that problem and come to the correct solution ( here the student will be actively involve in solving the problem than just listening to the tutor) . More often I would use everyday life experiences to explain what I teach. and I may use reductionism method . i.e. breaking down a large problem to small parts when its appropriate . This method can be very efficient dealing with problems in maths, physics and chemistry.

I have learnt through my tutoring experience, the main reasons why students achieve lower grades. they are...

*Lack of Knowledge and Understanding in fundamentals ,
*Lack of right practice ( Including Exam practice),
*Lack of time management skills in exam situations,
*Lack of knowledge and practice to recognize the keywords/key sentences in exam questions
*Lack of proper Writing Skills,
*Above factors would lead to Lower SELF CONFIDENCE
So I would put lot of emphasis on the above factors in my tutoring practice to give the maximum opportunity to my students to attain better grades.

Whatever approach I may use to teach , I will be always friendly and I will always be willing to help the student to overcome her/his weaknesses and sharpen the current knowledge.

Personal Description:
I began my combat training at thirteen at a local boxing club in Llanelli, learning the vital skills and discipline that have kept me working in the fitness and self-defence field for over ten years.

At the age of fifteen I joined the Cobra-Kai Freestyle Kickboxing Federation, and trained religiously under the regime of instructor Lee Martin (4th degree black belt). In 1997 I went on to win the European martial arts title (WUMA Federation), held at Cheltenham. On my return, and after numerous local newspaper photos and write-ups, I received the greatest honour any keen young martial artist dreams of: becoming a fully-fledged black belt.

Teaching Experience:

At the young age of 18, I opened my very own kickboxing club at Llanelli Leisure Centre, for all levels and ages. After showcasing my skills, not only as a martial artist but also a teacher, I received my 2nd degree black belt. Starting with just one weekly ninety-minute class, I now run four classes per week. Over the years I have helped created more than ten black belt students, two welsh champions and one British champion.

In 1997, I ran my first all women's self-defence class, training women of all ages and physical abilities. I continued my classes, eventually including mixed gender and young persons training.

After undergoing a series of courses from Securicare, Frontline, Venue security and BIIAB City and Guilds, I have become a Level 7 Conflict Management Trainer. I have worked alongside various organisations such as the NHS, covering the majority of hospitals and clinics throughout Carmarthenshire.

As well as training, I have since achieved my 4th degree black belt, opened my own one-to-one gym, and become an advanced level 3 personal trainer through Fitness Wales (REPs certified), teaching private lessons of fitness, weight training, martial arts, self-defence, Pilates, and much more.

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching has been a big part of my life from a very young age. It has given me great pleasure and accomplishment. At times I have found it difficult, but at the same time rewarding. I have always given it 100% and believe that to be a good teacher you must be able to learn from the positives and even the negatives.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for 10 years now. I have taught English as a foreign language in Japan for a major language school. I worked as a private tutor in Japan and Australia teaching ESL. In Australia, I also worked with an import company improving the business English of their staff. I have taught Exercise Physiology both at University level for ACU in Sydney, and in an adult education environment. I have ample experience in sport coaching, having coached school children and university students in a variety of sports. I have taught on three continents, taught everyone from children as young as 1 to retirees. I have experience in a variety of subjects and people from various backgrounds. I am used to teaching individuals and groups.

Tutoring Approach:

People have different strengths and weaknesses. Both these need to be adequately construed before any teaching method can be finalised. Usually, I would try to ascertain the students strengths, to facilitate learning, and weaknesses, to identify areas of improvement. It is important to interpret these factors according to the framework of curriculum / examiner requirements. I endeavour to make my sessions fun for students. I try to remind myself that their tutoring sessions are often at the end of a long days work. This makes patience very important.

I am a Classics graduate and former Latin teacher, originally from Cheshire but now volunteering and living in North London. I have been working as a private tutor since 2012 and have helped many students of different ages and abilities to exceed their target grades.

I received a first-class honours degree in Classics from the University of Liverpool and also won the 'Dawson Turner Prize' (2015) for best performance in part II examinations; the 'J.P. Postgate Prize' (2014) for best performance in part I examinations and the 'Thomas Hornby Scholarship' (2013 & 2014) for best performance in Greek. My research interests include Latin and Greek bucolic poetry and I have presented an academic paper (November 2014) on this topic. I am also a member of the Virgil Society.

Teaching Experience:

September 2015 - July 2016: After graduating from university, I taught Classics full-time at a leading (11-18) boys' school in the north of England and was responsible for all teaching of Latin (up to A-Level) and Greek (up to GCSE). All of my A-Level Latin students received A*-A grades and obtained places at Oxford/Cambridge and all of the GCSE Greek students received A*/A.

September 2014 - December 2014: Taught an introductory Latin course for adults

Alongside this I also have extensive experience of tutoring pupils privately and have tutored a wide-range of abilities and ages ranging from under 11s to those studying for A-Levels (in English and Latin) and I have managed to help many of those taking exams to obtain A/A* grades. I also have experience teaching the casual learner who does not want to take examinations.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching approach is unique to each individual and involves building up a relationship with the tutee so I can provide the most effective tuition depending on their learning style.

However, in general terms, my approach is a practical one and I encourage students to view the literature (whether Greek, Latin or English) in an analytical way and endeavour to teach the method rather than just the answer. Where possible, I will choose material that will interest the tutee so that, as far as possible, they will enjoy the process of reading and analysing the piece of text.

I am a student at the University of Bristol and would like to be a french tutor this summer (2013). I am currently on my year abroad in the South of France and on my return in June would like to help young students improve their french. Having studied french for 8 years i am very enthusiastic about the language, but also the culture. I am completely flexible this summer and have a car so would be able to do home tutoring. As i spend most of my time speaking french at the moment it would be a great opportunity to further this hobby in England whilst helping somebody else and hopefully giving them the enthusiasm that i have for the language.

Teaching Experience:

Although i have not got any formal qualifications as a teacher, when studying my A Levels I helped with the younger classes and often help my younger brother with his language revision. I have acquired voluntary work with children for two years as a leader at my local Brownies group, therefore engaging in and leading activities. I would feel comfortable teaching children or adults.

Tutoring Approach:

I am keen to take an approach to tutoring that suits the individual client. I would offer structured lessons with exercises and small tests for those who are preparing for exams. However I would also be happy to tutor somebody who needs to practice their spoken french. In the first lesson we can identify what suits the student best and together choose our method of teaching and learning.

I am a 25 year old PhD student in Spanish Literature at the University of Cambridge. I have a first class-degree in Spanish and German language and literature as well as an MPhil in Spanish literature which I completed in 2014. I have a range of experience that would make me ideal for teaching young people and adults from beginner up to A-Level standard.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored Spanish to school pupils with learning difficulties at both beginner and GCSE level and helped them to significantly improve their performances.

I was also a group leader at the Villiers Park Educational Trust in Cambridgeshire, aimed at language applicants from less advantaged backgrounds. Throughout the week-long programme I was responsible for delivering a series of seminars as well as one-to-one tuition on subjects as varied as Spanish vocabulary and grammar, to cinema, literature and history. The programme was such a success that I have been invited back as a tutor this year.

Tutoring Approach:

I am available to give online tutoring to young people and adults in Spanish and German from beginner to A-Level standard. I can work you through the basics of the language or the more complex material for advanced students. I'm happy to teach any aspect of the language or culture you need. I'm a 23-year-old graduate of Mathematics from the University of Warwick, with A-Levels in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, French and an AS-Level in English Language. I've excelled academically from a young age and have honed my own skills in learning for as long as I can remember. Curiously, despite being the "smart kid" in the class all my life, that image hasn't held me back socially and my communicative skills have thankfully benefited greatly because of that. I've a lifelong love for learning and trying new things and I often try my hand in spheres in which I shouldn't necessarily succeed, given my hefty mathematics background, but I nonetheless write well, play sports well and I enjoy taking a good photograph.

I've tutored my listed subjects at varying levels, starting from the time I taught a lesson on William Blake to my own GCSE English class. Since then, friends have asked me to help them study for GCSE and A-Level and family of friends or teachers have also benefited from my tutoring. I have tutored several subjects at varying academic levels to students when living in Leamington Spa area of Warwickshire since September 2013 and I now tutor in London and online via Skype since September 2014.

Tutoring Approach:

Being without any professional training but instead having many years' experience in tutoring at every level - and having been the brainbox at school to whom classmates turned when they wanted a little extra help or perhaps a second explanation of subject matter covered by a teacher - I'm great at tailoring a tutoring experience to an individual. I find that nothing is beyond the understanding of any pupil or student; everyone simply needs to take the right steps, to cross the right bridges, in order to grasp a subject in their own way.

Tutoring Approach:

The most important thing is to ensure the tutee is comfortable with the approach. I do not have one particular approach but adapt my tutoring sessions in a way to suit the student.

Whereas I understand the importance of exams and will often stress this, I find it more useful to to engage with the tutee in a way which would result in them loving the subject. This will encourage and motivate them to work further.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored one to one biology for GCSE and A Level students for 7 years and have spent 9 years tutoring children of primary school age and secondary school students aged 11-14. I have worked part time at a tuition centre for two years teaching both groups and one to one lessons for ages ranging from 6 to 18, in the fields of Science, Maths and English. Additionally, I have run large revision sessions during the run up to exams, covering essential aspects of the syllabus.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring style varies greatly between age groups. With younger children, I prefer the use of examples, starting with easier questions and building up to more difficult questions. I feel that this method is an effective means of interacting with the student and understanding his/ her ability. With older students, I always prefer to let the student dictate how he/she would like to learn and adapt my teaching style to their learning.

For all levels, it is important to summarise at the end of each session and provide questions to help apply knowledge.

One to One - focussing on parts of the curriculum where the student is having difficulty in understanding
Create a deep understanding and confidence in answering exam questions and being able to tackle new and unfamiliar problems. The student is encouraged to think and make new connections for themselves. One-to-one personal tuition has a unique value to students because of the ability to resolve the students' personal barriers to learning in a way that lays the foundations for a deep and lasting understanding of the subject.

Depending on the student's needs and learning style I encourage students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and examples to check understanding continually. I don't lecture to students or ask them to memorise things. Nor do I do the students' homework for them!

With programming language my approach is first to make the student using various simple approaches like an algorithm or with a flow chart to solve it then once the confidence if built up to go to the syntax of the programming language. This approach not only will help you master any programming language quickly but improve ones analytical skills as well.

Qualifications: Having received A*s in A-level, First Class Honours (distinction) at the University level and qualifying as a Chartered Accountant (ICAS), I specialise in Finance, Accounting, Business and Economics subjects.

Over time, I have developed various teaching techniques through experience and knowledge, given each student in unique. I prefer to set the objectives first with the time scale available, and then work towards meeting those objectives. Whether you require concepts clarification with respect to assignments or exams, I tailor my approach accordingly.

I have a precise approach which is very relevant to the way concepts and examination works. Obviously, examiners are looking for different things at the A- Level as compared to degree level and my practical approach is tailored according to the content and syllabus, therefore maximising the output from the time I spend with my students.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored privately for 6 years now, teaching all levels between Secondary and University standard. I specialise in maths, but am happy to tutor in any of the subjects I have studied to the appropriate level. In spite of having personally achieved the highest possible grades in every public exam I have taken, my proudest achievement to date is passing on this record to every one of my tutees, up to and including a 7 at Higher Level IB Maths.

I feel it is important to find the way in which the tutee prefers to learn. From my own experience of schools, class teaching can be homogenised and lack the personal touch that is often required to catalyse the best results. Personal Description:
I am a native Arabic language tutor with over 20 years' experience teaching Arabic from absolute beginners to GCSE level in UK Colleges. I teach adults and children in person and through Skype.

I teach Arabic (Modern / Classical) from complete beginners level, all the way to an advanced level, for both adults and children. Students learn all aspects of the language: reading, writing and speaking (general communication). I apply modern teaching techniques, which make the learning process appealing and enjoyable at each lesson.

Teaching Experience:

I have a huge wealth of experience in teaching Arabic to Adults and Children in the UK over a period of nearly 25 years. I started teaching Arabic to children privately (individually and in small groups) in the UK since 1992. I then extended my offering, by teaching adults in one of the Adult Community Colleges in the North of England. I then moved to London, and taught two courses of Arabic at Brent Adult Education Services from 1999 to 2001. During that period, I also completed my basic teaching training at Stanmore College in1999.
I then moved to Sussex and restarted in 2008 my Arabic teaching at Sussex Adult Education Services. I continue to teach there until now, as I am the only Arabic Language Tutor at college. Besides that, I kept my private teaching to adults and children, either in person or through Skype.
My wealth of experience in teaching Arabic is manifested by the following:
1) I use a wide range and varied teaching materials: books; dialogues; MP3 sound files; card games; CDs; computer games; videos; and worksheets. All of these are at different levels - from absolute beginners to advanced learners. I have created and developed some of these materials, while I have carefully selected the others to suit my teaching at different levels.
2) I plan and develop suitable materials to teach individual students, according to their abilities and understanding. I don't just follow one or two text books, or a computer program to teach the language. I create a session plan for each individual lesson, and when I teach a small group of students, I use suitable differentiation methods to cover the different needs of the students. For example, I currently teach two young children (brothers) at different ages and one of them has a disability, so my teaching materials are different to suit each of them, in order to keep both of them enjoy and benefit from the lessons.
3) Teaching students with different abilities and backgrounds, as well as disabled students. For example, I taught a partially blind adult student, as part of a large group, and then individually. She enjoyed the lessons and continued learning Arabic. My students are at different ages; different professions; different backgrounds; and with different objectives to learn Arabic. I currently teach young children under 10 years old; a teenager at GCSE level; several male and female adults (different professions); and a retired lady. This is in addition to my teaching at college.
4) I also teach at different levels. For beginners, I teach them the Arabic letters (pronunciation and writing) and communication skills in different day-to-day topics such as buying food and asking for directions. For the more advanced adult learners, I prepare them to be able to read, listen and understand the news in Arabic as well as reading stories, and debating topics. This gives them a good foundation if they want to work in Arabic speaking countries; work with NGOs where Arabic is required; and conducting business in the Arab world.
5) As a College Tutor, I have gone through several inspections / observations of my teaching. I used the feedback from these inspections to improve my teaching methods, style and materials. The feedback from my last observation session (in October 2016) was excellent, and I got the highest grade for a teaching session. The inspection report was full of positive feedback statements, such as:

"The tutor has a very high level of subject knowledge and communicated this in a calm and reassuring manner throughout. There was good rapport between the tutor and students which created a very supportive environment";

"Delivery methods were varied and included tutor presentation, use of sound files, handouts, speaking practice with the tutor, pair-work and some students using ICT resources. Tutor spoke clearly and utilised facial expression to good effect to demonstrate subtle differences in long and short vowel sounds. The pace appeared to be appropriate to all and differentiated learning activities enabled students to progress at their own pace. There were frequent opportunities for repetition. Handouts were either dual language (English / Arabic) or dual script (Arabic script / Latin alphabet script)";

Tutoring Approach:

I teach at my home in Haywards heath but can also travel to the student's home in Sussex and London (travel expenses to be discussed). I also teach via Skype, and have a good experience with this method (I taught last year an IGCSE student in the Middle East, and currently teach GCSE to two young persons, all via Skype). I usually offer a free initial 10 to 15 minute trial session for assessment purposes and to make sure the student is happy with teaching via Skype.
