I studied Classics at King's College, Cambridge, graduating in 2009. I then trained as a teacher at Queens' College, Cambridge, graduating with a PGCE in 2010. I have been a private tutor since 2009, and have now clocked up thousands of hours' tutoring experience. In addition to my school-age students, I supervise Cambridge University undergraduates in Latin and Ancient Greek. I tutor both languages to degree-level standard in London, Cambridge and on Skype. I love Classics, and my main aim is to make my lessons fun and inspirational.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring Latin and Ancient Greek intensively for the past 7 years, with thousands of hours' teaching experience to date. I have taught towards all major public exams in both languages, such as Common Entrance, GCSE, AS, A2, SAT, Pre-U and even BA (i.e. University exams). I am familiar with the entrance processes for a number of independent and grammar schools, and have had a lot of experience teaching towards scholarship papers. I have tutored many students applying to Cambridge and Oxford, and can provide in-depth advice and support with choosing the right course and college, as well as getting to the necessary level for the language tests. I have also taught the languages to those who have decided to learn them purely for fun! In addition to my face-to-face teaching, I have taught extensively on Skype, and have built up an array of handy techniques to get the most from the online format. I was Head of Latin at a school in Bury St Edmunds for two years (September 2011 to July 2013). Since October 2010, I have been supervising Cambridge undergraduates in Latin and Ancient Greek (colleges so far have included Pembroke, Downing, Homerton, Queens', King's, Murray Edwards, Newnham, Caius, Peterhouse, St John's, Emmanuel and Trinity). I also own and run a private tuition agency, which I set up in 2011, managing a team of eight staff members and over 800 inspirational tutors.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching style is structured and thorough. I start every lesson with a five minute recap of the key content of the previous session, checking how much the tutee remembers. A typical lesson will then consist of a translation, in which I ask the tutee to note down each unknown word as it is encountered and to devise a memory trick which will help them to recall the word in a five minute test at the end of the lesson. Together with the tutee, I will then pick a grammar point which stood out in the translation exercise as requiring the most immediate attention. We will spend five to ten minutes working on that, with the tutee's understanding tested with some reinforcement exercises. At the end of the lesson we will recap all the new vocabulary and grammar which was covered, and I will typically set a manageable 20 - 30 minute homework for the next session based on what was covered in the lesson. Every lesson is of course different, and tailored to the tutee's requirements, but I find this approach works in the vast majority of cases. I consider grammar to be crucially important, but treat it as a means to an end and always emphasise the ways in which it can be usefully applied to translation rather than learned in isolation. I believe that any tutee can excel in Latin and Greek with a little guidance and a decent amount of independent work. Above all, I strive to make my lessons fun and enjoyable. I love my subject and want all of my tutees to love it too.

I offer solid, comprehensive, support in Science and Maths for all the English Examination boards - including the International Baccalaureate. I can (and do) also enter/administer/teach/ and prepare students for GCSE/A-level Science, and Maths, examinations - privately (outside of the school environment). Teaching Experience:

Over ten years' experience teaching biology, chemistry and physics to A-level. Also, about seven years' experience teaching mathematics to A-level and about five years' experience working with special needs students - particularly Asperger syndrome.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to work with the knowledge students already possess and build from there: expect friendly learning targets, pre-tests, progress tests and honest progress reports on strengths and weakness and plenty of homework.

We try to make the online learning experience and working relationship as similar as possible to the face - to - face experience and relationship.

Teaching Experience:

During the past five years I have taught a range of age groups from young school pupils to adults in both one to one lessons and group settings. I have also had a great deal of experience teaching beginners, most recently the Bellingham Middle School Ceilidh Band. During my later years of school I assisted with a young children's string orchestra and also an intermediate traditional music group. As part of my degree I have studied different techniques of teaching traditional music within the community.

Tutoring Approach:

The initial lesson provides an opportunity for both myself and the pupil to discuss any past musical experiences and also understand what they wish to gain from future lessons. I plan my lessons around the interests of the pupil which in return allows them to get the most out of their lessons. Whilst I strongly believe that there are benefits to reading notation, I also teach by ear and am happy to focus on this if a pupil so wishes. I encourage my pupils to bring along any music they wish to learn in addition to their set pieces.

I offer hour long lessons, suggesting a starting point of half an hour for beginners. Groups lessons are possible.

Personal Description:
I have been teaching for 7 years and am currently taking a break to complete my Masters degree in cognitive neuroscience. I have most recently been teaching Psychology, Sociology and Health and Social care to A-level students.

I am a cheese loving, psychology adoring, fitness freak who enjoys blogging about dance, weightlifting and good nutrition! I have additional qualifications in anatomy and nutrition and enjoy sharing my knowledge on both these subjects and my mainstream subject specialisations.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught for 7 years, graduating from the University of Sussex in 2010 with a PGCE in middle years science. I have since taught GCSE, A-level and casual biology, psychology, sociology and health and social care. I have also taught KS2-3 maths, english, science and literacy skills. I have a 2:1 BSc degree in Psychology (Neuroscience) and am currently studying for an MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Sussex.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning about my students is key - likes, dislikes and interests. This means that the subjects being taught can be tailored to fit the learning and understanding of the student. I enjoy working with students and teaching and feel that the natural excitement I feel can be transferred through explanation - this can be seen in the increased uptake of social sciences at my last teaching job and increased applications to university for these subjects.

I have 14 years teaching experience. I have taught at 8 secondary schools (in Scotland) and at three universities. I am a 22-years-old Belgian currently studying Youth Work and Community Development in Hull. I am looking for a job to fund my studies, and French being my first language made tutoring appear to be a perfect opportunity.
I am also in an international organisation geared towards youth aged 11+, and enjoy every moment of working with them. I have been exposed to and trained in various teaching methods, and am very aware of learning styles and needs.
Having learned four languages to different extents over the past 6 years, I do understand the challenges one can face when it comes to speaking, writing, reading, and simply understanding a foreign language.
I have been reading a lot since I was a child, which means I know a lot of French literature from early childhood, to young adults, to classics and adults books.

Teaching Experience:

I have been trained in the different learning styles and teaching approaches.
I have tutored before, helping children with their French homework.
I have been tutored myself, in several languages, and have asked my tutors questions about their teaching styles so I could use them myself later in life.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very aware that each individual has their own learning style, and I am able to accommodate to each person's needs.

While grammar is important, I believe languages are much more than that, they carry a culture and I use that to make the learning interesting and entertaining. I have advised many of my friends wanting to learn French to watch series and movies, listen to certain songs, read some books, as I believe this is a much more engaging way to learn a language.

Having learned different languages myself, I can use my own experience to help someone learn the French language, with all its exceptions and irregularities. I understand that different age groups have different interests and learning styles, and I make sure to use the right approach for each individual.

Should there be specific needs and standards to meet, such as exams and tests, or homework, I make sure to be informed and aware of these so we can work towards a specific goal.

I am a Geography student at UEA; my subject puts me in contact with both sides of education; from the sciences and mathematics to literature and philosophy. I am a kind, patient person who does his best to help others succeed. I am 18 and in my first year which puts me relatively close in age to GSCE students which allows me to connect with them more and therefore teach better.

Teaching Experience:

I have done work experience in a Primary School which taught me a lot about the practicalities of teaching. It was here I learned I had a knack for encouraging others to work and supporting them with their studies. I have been asked throughout my education to help my peers, which has given me the skills to support others with work they do not understand or need support with.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning should be made as fun and applicable as possible - which is where school fails. The best way to engage someone is to put what you are trying to teach them into "their language". Maths for its own sake is easy to take as dull and pointless, but showing someone that you can use it in a way that they find interesting and relevant makes them more likely to engage. This is true for any subject, and is difficult to do with a class of 30 but much easier to do one to one.

Teaching Experience:

My recent teaching experience is with Kumon. I've also tutored my son through an A* GCSE in 2016.

Prior to that, 25 years ago I was a lecturer at Swindon College in mathematics and from 86-88 I tutored A-level maths to fund my way through University.

Tutoring Approach:

Patience and repetition. It is practice of doing it right that leads to always doing it right and failure to practice and not correcting errors early that leads to errors.

I explain the approach to take (and why), demonstrate the approach and then ask the student to implement, first with support but eventually alone.
