| Personal Description: I have been studying Experimental Psychology (a very science-based subject) at Oxford University for two years and am currently on a year out from studying. I very much enjoy teaching, as well as the satisfaction of helping a student reach their goal. I welcome students of all abilities, especially those who are enthusiastic about succeeding. |
Teaching Experience: I have tutored in the past at primary and GCSE level, and I am currently tutoring a student for her 11+ common entrance exams. I have taken part in several mentor schemes where I supported younger students with their academic problems in Mathematics, Science and English. |
Tutoring Approach: I have a very organised approach to tutoring, with small goals set per session, as well as a long term goal to work towards. For younger students, I feel that relaxed but structured sessions are important, with small breaks so that focus is kept. I also ensure that the lessons are as fun as possible. I always work towards building a good relationship with my students, and encourage them to ask questions without any hesitation. I adapt my approach depending on my students' learning style as I feel this is the key to successful teaching. Past papers are definitely a step in the right direction, as well as looking at the syllabus/specifications for the subject. I spend a lot of time planning for sessions so that my student gets the very best out of each lesson. |

| Personal Description: I am currently training to be a speech therapist and so am in an academic setting myself. Ideally I would like to do most of my tutoring work in my holidays but as I am a university student my holidays are quite lengthy. I'm very reliable, friendly and adaptable to many situations and am keen to help people achieve all that they have potential to achieve. To give you an idea of my own academic abilities, I am currently achieving First Class results mid-way through my course. |
Teaching Experience: I have many nieces and nephews ranging from 3 years to 14 years and am aware of their curriculums and their abilities. I am also currently part of a reading programme in London to encourage students to read and further their English skills. Most of my Speech Therapy course is based around teaching people in one way or another. |
Tutoring Approach: I am a very encouraging tutor with a great deal of patience. I refuse to do the work for people, instead I prefer to help my tutees discover the answers for themselves by guiding them in the right direction. I believe anything is possible given the right approach. |

| Personal Description: Hello! I'm Heather and I am currently studying English Literature at Northumbria University with the intention to do a teaching qualification straight after. I live in Sunderland with my husband and daughter and think of tutoring as the ideal way to fund the rest of my education. It is not only rewarding on a personal level but will also help me advance in the teaching field. |
Teaching Experience: I am yet to qualify as a teacher but as this is my intended career path I have done work experience in both primary and secondary schools, as well as being a volunteer at a local special needs school. I am also due to begin my placement at a secondary school. |
Tutoring Approach: Learning should be fun. If we expect our children to learn anything they should enjoy doing it. As tutoring is out of school hours I believe it is important to separate it from the school dynamic while encouraging both discipline and a strong work ethic. In my experience of tutoring it can often lead to the child becoming yet more overwhelmed and bogged down by work, it is therefore, in my opinion, important to treat each tutee individually by quickly assessing their needs and working with them towards their goals. |

| Personal Description: I am a qualified Secondary French and German Teacher (registered with the General Teaching Council), and have been teaching for 2 years. |

I can tailor the tutoring to suit your individual needs, making language learning as fun as possible, as well as bring a cultural element to the sessions, as I have lived in both France and Germany. |

| Personal Description: I am a young and dynamic geography teacher. I have studied Geography up to degree level, and hold a postgraduate certificate in education (teaching qualification). |
Teaching Experience: I am a qualified teacher, who is currently teaching geography at a secondary school in Sandwell. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that one to one tutoring enables the learner to work upon areas that they may struggle with. I believe that the key to learning is to do little and often, that also involves the student taking an active part in their learning. Having tutored family, and friends of family previously, whilst also having been tutored when I was at school, I believe that it is important that students do work throughout the week, not just at specified tutoring sessions. I am dedicated to helping students to their best, and achieve their own potential. |

| Personal Description: I have completed the first three years of a 4 year Mathematics degree from the University of Bristol and have achieved a first in each year. At A-Level, I studied Maths, Physics and Geography, as well as AS Further Maths. I am looking to tutor over the summer holidays; I am available until the end of September. |
Teaching Experience: I have no direct tutoring experience, however I have worked for an educational publishing company last summer and my course requires my to work together frequently to explain ideas. |
Tutoring Approach: I feel the best way to learn Mathematics is to fully understand the principles and ideas behind methods used to solve problems. Then practice and examples are useful to reinforce the methods. |

| Personal Description: I am an enthusiastic biology graduate looking to pass on my expertise and love of biology to help students reach their goals. I love to teach and I have received a lot of positive feedback from my past students. Aside from tutoring I am in my third year of graduate medicine at Liverpool university and spend my spare time playing all manner of sports. I also play the piano, oboe and guitar. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions; I try to be as accommodating as possible and matters such as group rates can be discussed. |
Teaching Experience: I have several years experience tutoring from classroom to small group to one-to-one sessions. I have tutored biology privately in the UK, but also taught biology to prospective medical students in the U.S. for The Princeton Review. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is designed around the individual learning needs of the student. This means the style of tutoring or the material which needs to be covered is of optimum use so that students' interests are heightened and no time is wasted. With that in mind, I do like the student to take part as much as possible. I believe there is no better test for understanding than if a person can explain concepts in their own words or apply understood principles to novel situations. I also encourage any questions that the student might have. |

| Personal Description: I am a young individual who has decided to teach recreationally rather than at school. I prefer working one-to-one with students or in smaller groups rather than large classes. I am outgoing, confident and enjoy learning. My hobbies include backpacking, travelling, driving, listening to music, reading and socializing. |
Teaching Experience: I enrolled onto the PGCE Secondary Mathematics course this year with Cambridge University. However, after successfully completing two terms, I decided that I did not want to teach in schools full time and I am now eager to pursue a different career and tutor in my spare time. However, the PGCE experience is useful since I have attended professional teaching and education tutorials and I have spent lots of time in schools both teaching and observing. With my previous volunteering experience at school (an afternoon a week for 2 years whilst working through my Maths and Stats degree), I am now confident with my own teaching style and helping individuals with their learning. |
Tutoring Approach: An emphasis on understanding the work/topic is crucial since it helps both enjoyment in the subject and will help overall with examination success. I am a meticulous and patient individual who enjoys learning and teaching, and I attempt to make it as fun as possible by using different activities to aid learning. These activities are always educationally rich and by varying my approach, tutoring lessons shouldn't become stale. I work hard to achieve success. |

I seek the opportunity to use the knowledge I have gained from the above to tutor an enthusiastic individual, who is looking to attain the highest levels of achievement in his/her Government Politics or History GCSE/A-Level examinations. Having studied these subjects at school myself, and in light of the recent introduction at A-Level of the A* grade, I know it to be of vital importance for a student to extend his/her understanding to a deeper level; the problem, however, is that in-school class discussion rarely even scratches the surface of what are complex, nuanced topics of study. I can provide this depth. Furthermore, if a student is interested in applying for Oxbridge I know it to be essential that the student posses a wide range of philosophical, political, and historical knowledge when applying, both for the entrance exams and the interviews. As a successful applicant to Cambridge University for an MPhil in Politics I will thus also able to demonstrate to the tutee how what I am covering can be applied to the Oxbridge application process. Finally, I would like to highlight my memberships of various think tanks in London. I am a particular active member of the Adam Smith Institute, Chatham House - The Royal Institute of International Affairs, and RUSI. |
Teaching Experience: I have been a student teacher for students with severe behavioural and learning difficulties, and my experience with children and young adults of this grouping extends to the informal setting with my time running extended summer camp sessions for them. In instructing and tutoring these adolescents from the ages of 11-16 I developed and practiced instructional strategies to maintain student interest and accommodate individual learning styles. I also proactively planned and carried out lessons in subjects across the curriculum. I have also tutored History and Politics at A-Level, but mostly the sons or daughters of friends or family. Moreover, my sixth form has had me back to conduct an A-Level class in Government and Politics. As the Brand Manager for the teaching charity 'Teach First' whilst at Newcastle University I am also highly familiar with the curricula developments in secondary and post-secondary education. |
Tutoring Approach: First foundation, then extension. I like to tutor to my student's needs and believe it extremely important that the tutee provide me with his/her curriculum, teacher reports, previous essays, and personal attainment goals; as without this communication it is unlikely that I will be able to provide the most applicable and appropriate tuition to the student. This is the foundation. In providing me with a comprehension of the current level of my tutee I can first make sure that he/she is properly prepared for his examinations. However, I believe also that I should be able to go beyond the tutee's school curriculum, for this allows me to impart upon the student an understanding of Politics or History that he/she will not be pushed to grasped in the classroom setting at A-Level. This is extension. To attain the highest level in these subjects requires a nuanced and deep understanding of highly complex issues and theories that have shaped our world today. What is more, this understanding often comes via a route of reflection and then discussion. However, as I have personally experienced, a classroom environment rarely goes deep enough. My tuition can. To impart the depth of my 1st class degree to the student I work through a number of the key theories and concepts that have affected the course of History and impacted the Government and Politics of today. By taking this thematic approach an extension can be provided to the student's comprehension of any topic within these two subjects. For example, a theoretical grasp of Marxism will allow the student to apply a Marxist lens to his/her essay on virtually any topic in History or Government and Politics. Such a lens is the difference between "covering all the bases" and the very top level of understanding and achievement. |

| Personal Description: I am a dedicated teacher who takes pride in teaching. |
Teaching Experience: I have 7 years of teaching experience. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to teaching is simple. Firstly I look at which exam board the student is studying and then I go through all the topic areas that need to be covered for their exams. I have various strategies which help students not to forget what they have learnt. I also do lots of exam papers so that the student can get a taster of what the real exam would be like. |

| Personal Description: I am a 21 year old graduate from Cambridge University, who is currently studying for a Masters degree at King's College London. I am approachable and extremely passionate about education - I plan to train as a teacher after completing my degree - and feel this enthusiasm will transfer into tutoring: I will endeavour to make subjects accessible and interesting to my students. My principal subject is English Literature, although I am happy to tutor pupils in Music, Maths, Psychology and Government and Politics. |
Teaching Experience: I have a wide range of experience of working with young people of all ages: I volunteered as a young leader at Cubs, taught my local Sunday School for a number of years, and spent my most recent summer working with the Rural Youth Service. With specific regard to teaching, I have taken part in the Student Associates Scheme; I had a three week placement in a local Secondary school, and, as part of this, taught segments of lessons and worked with pupils individually. I have also spent time as a classroom assistant in a local primary school, and so I am acquainted with the different levels of learning and the different challenges pupils face throughout their school career. One experience I particularly enjoyed was mentoring a younger pupil in preparation for her SATS: I mentored this pupil in Science and Maths, and it was extremely rewarding to see both her confidence and knowledge grow. Recently, I tutored two A-level Psychology students in the approach to their January modular exams. From this, I was able to explore different teaching techniques, and gained a strong understanding on how to plan, structure and carry out a tutoring session. Furthermore, I found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding experience, especially seeing the tremendous progress the two students made during the time. |
Tutoring Approach: I feel it is very important to be enthusiastic, and so, to reflect this, I would use a range to mediums to engage the tutee, with the intention of seeing what method works best for them. I would prepare individualised lesson plans, providing the sessions with some structure, and would set small homework tasks to check understanding. I would hope to be an approachable tutor who would build up a student's confidence, particularly when either questioning and challenging an argument, or when asking for extra explanation. |

Teaching Experience: During my time as a student in Germany, I was helping young Germans prepare for their school leaving qualifications in English. After graduating from university I began teaching English to speakers of other languages. |
Tutoring Approach: I offer one on one tutoring which is a more formal, direct and intensive which I like to base on your daily experiences. I also offer conversational practice. The latter is more informal, done usually over a coffee, in the supermarket, at a museum, etc so as to bring learning into your daily environment.
