I am also a parent of boys with SEN,(dyslexia, dyspraxia, autism and adhd) and have a good knowledge of special education needs and the impact of these on teaching, learning and home life.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for 5 years in the primary age range and really enjoy it. I have been privately tutoring for 6 years covering both all literacy areas and maths. I have up-to-date training in the new grammar, spelling and punctuation KS2 SAT's paper. In the area of spelling, I have current experience in the synthetic phonics approach. I have used this from the beginning stages in year 1, and also adapted teaching with the support of practical materials to pupils in KS2.
I can provide references from parents of current pupils.

I am able to support your child through the transition into secondary school, providing practical ideas to get ready and support during the first term to enable them to remain positive about their potential as a learner. I can also help advise on issues arising from difficulties in personal organisation from moving around the school to coping with having the right things in their bag on a daily basis.

I can tutor pupils through secondary education in English and English literature. I can support those who are experiencing dyslexic issues and need some support with homework.

Tutoring Approach:

I treat each child as an individual taking into account both parents and the pupils views and needs. I provide suport to catch up on missed areas of basic skills, which is delaying learning, as well as being able to support targets set by school for the pupils individual progress. Through an initial consultation I seek to find out what the needs are and, with parents and pupil, plan suitable help to reach their goals. I share objectives with parents and pupils and give regular feed back to both to reach those goals. I belive it is important for all to see progress is being made. With parents and pupils permission, I like to make contact with their teacher to work with class teacher in identifing areas of difficulty and planning appropriate support. I find that this approach give the maximum benefit for all concerned.
The greatest difference I make to my pupils is to increase their confidence which in turn enables them to be more willing to take part in whole class sessions at school. Teachers of at least 2 of my pupils have remarked on the difference in attitude of the pupils who I have tutored.

I am a mathematician, with a special interest in applied mathematics and statistics. I worked for some years in University departments as a tutor and then lecturer. More recently I have worked for almost two decades in industry as a mathematician at a prestigious research centre in Cambridge. I am familiar with many aspects of secondary education through my daughter, who has recently completed her A levels at Hills Road 6th form college, and a son at secondary school. My daughter has just begun reading PPE at at Oriel College Oxford. I am currently working at the Dept. of Engineering, University of Cambridge.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught Mathematics and Physics, to undergraduates from a wide variety of disciplines. I have particular experience of teaching Mathematics to people whose primary interests lie in Business studies and in Engineering. I also gained valuable insight into adult education when I taught adult part-time students.
I have also provided tutorials for students with many different requirements including A level and undergraduate Physics & Mathematics courses and, for example, GMAT Mathematics prep for MBA entrance exams.
Recently I have had the opportunity to tutor intensively for STEP tests and this has become a personal interest -there is always a new challenge, and the examiners are skilled at finding new ways to test the same knowledge level.

Tutoring Approach:

The details of the correct approach vary from one tutee to another, but the principles remain the same. I seek to establish the student's ability within the context of a given aim and to then set realistic objectives.
I think that most students have more mathematical ability than they themselves believe; this can be brought out in a positive fashion once negative stereotypes are discarded. Also the application of mathematics to the real world can be exciting and profitable.

I have a 21 year-old daughter living at home with me while studying medicine at Glasgow University.

Teaching Experience:

I have a degree in French and German and have been tutoring both children and adults for many years, although my enthusiasm has never waned.
I attended a TEFL course two years ago and am still improving those skills through an on-line course. I find this very easy and enjoyable as I come from the generation who were thoroughly taught correct English grammar and spelling.

All my pupils who take exams achieve excellent grades and I can supply references to testify to this.
Languages are fun!

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in a thorough method of learning languages - not the 'phrase-book style' fashionable for some years. As much speaking practice as possible is essential.

Having so many years' experience, I have many practice papers and CD's for school exams and excellent courses for adults.

Any parents considering additional help in the lead-up to exams should try to start this as early as possible. I may be expert and dedicated but I don't have a magic wand to work miracles over the last couple of weeks before an exam!

I come from a mixed Spanish/Argentinian family, which has provided me with an insight into both cultures and language varieties. Besides enjoying the teaching of the beautiful Spanish language, I love traveling and experiencing different cultures: in the last 10 years, through my studies and job opportunities, I have had the chance to live in Portugal, Slovenia, Argentina, the U.K. and Algeria, besides 4 different Spanish cities. I started teaching Spanish in 2005 while living in Slovenia. I did not imagine the rich universe behind this task. Since then I have done many teacher training courses, the last one a Master Teacher Training for Teacher of Spanish as a Foreign Language in University of Barcelona, finished in July 2011. In the last 7 years I worked at Instituto Cervantes, Kings College London, Merton Adult Education College, among others. I also started teaching online in 2008, working as a freelancer for Telelangue and Learship, the top European e-learning providers. The online methodology is the one I use now. I also work in the organization of language learning and cultural trips to Spain.

Tutoring Approach:

Student needs defines a different course for each individual, so during our first meeting we will discuss this. From there, according to the goals, background and personality of each learner, I create a course to address your needs. Classes are dynamic, fun, as well as following the learners pace. The great thing about this system is that we can stop at any point to clarify and explain further and again any challenging topic. We can work in mini projects to help you produce you own language from the first day. I believe in the independence on the learner and provide you with tools for building your own skills. I use a very user-friendly web based virtual classroom where we meet and speak live one-to-one during the whole class, seeing each other through our webcams, while working collaboratively on graphic materials.

Teaching Experience:

I am teacher who has taken early retirement. I have 15 years experience of teaching at infant level and further education level.
I taught reception classes for two years followed by year one for two years in Leicester.
I have also taught students with learning difficulties independant living skills for 9 years.
I have been working in schools in and around the Pontypridd untill I left 18 months ago to live in Glasgow.
Whilst in Glasgow I taught one 5 year old boy for a period of about 8 weeks over the smmer holiday. I also taught two 10 year old boys who needed their confidence boosting.
I am now back in Pontypridd and available to tutor.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that tutoring should be fun for both the child and the tutor. I would look to use games as much as possible to enrich the time with your child. Initially I would need to talk to you as the parent to see what problems you and possibly the class teacher believe your child has, and how best they can be helped. I started to give one to one lessons in 2002 when I enrolled University as a form to support part of my studies.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring aims to build confidence in the learners and work with them, rather than lecturing to them. I generally tend to show students the steps and procedures that will lead them to make their own discoveries independently, so that they will be able to study autonomously in the future. As I learnt from my Celta course I plan lessons in advance, but I adjust to meet special learning needs and the the pace of work of students as I become aware of them.
I strongly believe that a tutor should relate to students as an equal, not someone superior.
I tend to show appreciation and praise whenever the student is doing well in order to encourage but also to prepare tasks that are challenging for the learner.

I have taught on many aspects of accountancy subjects, these include F6 Taxation, F2 Management accounting, F3 Financial Accounting, F7 Financial Reporting and F8 Audit & Assurance, which are subjects on ACCA syllabus. I have also taught on AAT (to include all units) and ABE syllabus on similar subjects and I posses a profound understanding of my chosen subjects and capable of teaching them effectively.
My excellent understanding of double entry accounting procedures provide me with the basis of dealing with various aspects of reconciliations i.e.; control account reconciliation, bank reconciliation, balance sheet reconciliation, VAT reconciliation and dealing all aspect of ledger accounts. I also have an excellent understanding of Sage line 50 and 100 and had also used many accounting packages. Recently I worked with East Surrey College on a contract basis teaching Financial Statements, Personal Tax, and Financial Performance (AAT Level 4).

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to groom my students in a flexible manner towards passing their exams and ensuring that my lectures are carried out in a friendly and conductive environment that involves every student. I believed that teaching is a social institution as much as it is a profession, hence partnering with my students by becoming one of them provides me that yardstick to which a good relationship between us is established.

The emotional and social (pastoral) platform I created enable free communication between us and giving me that opportunity to gain their trust and their cooperation. The ramification of this is their countenance when they work in the morning and their readiness to discuss issues or their concerns with me.

My approach to teaching is methodical, resulting from the principle of hard working and professional discipline; my scheme of work and lesson plans are well prepared ahead of the start the course and handed over to my students at the very first day of every semester. Also the weekly lesson plans are given to my students one week in advance of the lectures. I always seek to start every topic within a syllabus with a tutorial question that provides student with that rudiment or fundamental principles in which that topic is enshrined.

I like the idea of interactive class, as a result I used questions as a means of communicating my lectures with my students and ensuring every student within the class is involved. I moved from one table to the other and where necessary I dealt with student on a one to one basis if I felt a particular student seemed to be lacking behind. Passing any paper within any accountancy professions require a lot of reading and treating many past questions by students.

I taught MA students philosophy of science at the University of Lancaster and, from 2004 to 2012, I taught at the United Arab Emirates University, specializing in the philosophy of mind and the philosophy of science, winning a prize for educational videos and podcasts. I have also designed entrance exams for US amercian medical colleges, covering critical thinking and logic.

Since 1990, I have also published many articles and reviews for Nature, The New Scientist, Science Spectrum and The Times Higher Educational Supplement and National Review. I am the author of The Myth of the Closed Mind: Explaining Why and How People are Rational.

Tutoring Approach:

My approcah to teaching is best summed up as student-problem-based learning, in which the student attempts to solve problems that they have identified as of stimulating interest to themselves and relevant to their intended qualifications. I believe that all learning starts with the student's own first rudimentary explorations of an issue. I act as a conversational and critical guide through this journey, providing reading material, questions, and formal techniques of citation.

My YouTube channel, currently with 38,000 view, is available for my students to consult.

Typically, a student will select an issue/question in philosophy, we will discuss it one-to-one, and then the student will produce a short essay on the issue, which we will critically discuss in the following session.
