I am a 21 year old living in South Manchester. I am in my final year reading BA (Hons) History at MMU. I write for the university magazine Pulp in my spare time, and I love to read and travel. When I graduate in July I plan to take a year out travelling and then complete a Masters.

Tutoring Approach:
I always make sure I take a structured approach to tutoring, by discussing with my student (or their parents) their strengths and weaknesses and setting out a clear plan and goals for the student and I to reach together in a certain amount of time. I also like to determine the learning style of my student, whether it be visual, auditory, writing/reading, or kinesthetic and then use this style of teaching to accommodate my student. I feel that personalised tutoring gets better results.

For those who really dislike history, I try to make studying a fun and positive experience by using different techniques like mnemonics and memory games which I've found to be very successful.

The key to tutoring for me is to facilitate rather than teach. I don't want to tell my student the answers and do their homework for them, but I want to guide them in the right direction (helping with time management and everything else that comes with studying) and encourage them to enjoy learning so that eventually they will pick up the feel for history themselves, and won't need outside help.

Personal Description:
Hello! I am an 18 year old currently living in London, having just finished my A-levels. Next year I will be starting PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) at Oxford, but will still be spending a lot of time in London due to the short terms.
I love teaching, especially in subjects that I am passionate about. I find it incredibly rewarding when students show enthusiasm in one of the subjects I tutor.

Teaching Experience:
With three younger sisters, in my family I am often seen as the "in-house" tutor. During the exam period, I was often sent along to their friends as well. At school I was a sixth-form mentor, meaning that I helped younger pupils who were struggling in their academic studies. All of this has given me a wide range of experience in teaching both boys and girls from the ages of 9 to 17.

Tutoring Approach:
I think the most important thing for any tutor is to share your enthusiasm for the subject with your pupils, to try to get them to enjoy learning, so I try to stay away from any teaching style that depends on simple repetition or formulaic approaches. One-on-one approach can help students grasp complex subjects which are often overlooked and neglected in a crowded classroom.
As well as helping students to fully understand different ideas I can also help students better understand the increasingly pernickety requirements of exam boards, which although cannot replace understanding sadly seems to be a very important part of exams in schools today.

My name is Robyn; I am a first study flautist who has just finished a Classical music degree at Leeds College of Music. I am currently working as a teaching assistant at a primary supporting children particularly in literacy and maths. I am outgoing and friendly and am always on time! I have been teaching flute and recorder for 2 years and have began teaching music at the primary school I am employed at. From working at school I have gained a vast knowledge of primary maths and literacy and particularly reading and writing as well as learning about phonics. I am flexible with times; competitive prices; half an hour lessons are also available.

I have taught flute and recorder part time for 2 years and have also taught music in primary school. I teach literacy and maths to small groups of children within the school environment but have also done some private teaching.

Tutoring Approach:
We will focus on what you want/need to learn. The lesson will be tailored to the needs of the learner. For instance, if you are planning to travel to a Spanish speaking country and you know some Spanish but maybe you don't feel very confident with your pronunciation, then we would focus on practising speaking and listening. In the same way if you want to learn general Spanish, I would develop a plan with all the language objectives to be covered in each lesson, so you are able to keep a track of your learning.
