Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified Modern Foreign Languages and EFL teacher, who has lived and worked in Spain, Germany and England. I enjoy meeting people of other nationalities and exchanging ideas about different cultures and experiences.

Teaching Experience:
I have worked as an EFL teacher since 1994 - teaching both abroad and in England to multi-lingual and monolingual classes. In Spain I taught children from 5 years old and businessmen in company, while in England I taught children from 12 years old at residential summer schools. In 2008 I completed a doctorate at Queen's University Belfast on modern and contemporary poetry. Personal Description:
I am a mother of three young girls ranging from 11 - 2 years old. I have often been frustrated with how rigid the school environment can be and how it can fail to provide the personal support that at times they have required. I have had to inject a significant amount of time and effort to make up for this shortfall. I understand that the resources are limited but it is a fact of life that students who require a little extra can often miss out. It is my personal experience with my own children that has motivated me into becoming a private tutor. I can imagine that it must be even more frustrating for those parents who want to provide additional support for their children, but perhaps are unsure of how to, due to lack of knowledge about the education system. I hope that my personal experience as a parent combined with my professional experience as a teacher will help to bridge that gap.

Teaching Experience:
I am currently teaching at a large comprehensive in Old Hill. I teach a variety of Business and Economic courses at GCSE and A Level. I am also responsible for moderating the level 1 and 2 Key skills courses ( Maths, English and ICT) for the school.
I teach BTEC Levels 1, 2 and 3, VGCSE, GCSE and A Level.
I have also taught KS3 Maths and English on a one to one basis for students who have found these subjects challenging.

Tutoring Approach:
I am very focused about ensuring that my teaching meets the needs of the individual. This is not always possible in a classroom, however, the beauty of one to one tutoring is that the teaching and delivery is custom to the individual.
My experience of one to one is that significant progress can be made by the students. In particular their confidence in their own ability develops helping them to continue to make progress even when the tutoring has finished.
Communication is vital, the only way that I am able to meet the specific needs of each student is if effective communication between parents, student and tutor takes place. This doesn't have to be formal - often little passing comments made by students are indications of what is really causing problems or barriers to their learning.
Finally I would ensure that my sessions are a positive experience that students enjoy rather than dread. Tutoring isn't school, it isn't about rules and structure, its about the student.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe that the key to teaching and motivating students is communicating my own enthusiasm for the subject. To this end I believe that lessons should be structured enough to meet the aims and learning outcomes (which are always clearly identified) but flexible enough to allow the young person to pursue their own academic ideas. I am a former lecturer in Learning Skills with a Grade One college of FE.

My degrees are in Business and Modern Languages (French and German) BA (Hons) and an MA in History. I also have a PGCE (FENTO). I am a Member of the Institute for Learning (MIfL).

My earlier work experience was in accounting with a multi-national company and in advice work with Social Services and CAB.

Teaching Experience:
I had 10 years teaching experience working with students in groups and one to one who have learning difficulties and on mainstream courses (GCSE, AS, A levels and vocational courses). The students were 16 -18 years old and adults on Access and degree level courses. I have also taught vocational German (Level 2) and History at GCSE and A level to students without learning difficulties.

Tutoring Approach:
I encourage the student to develop a reflective, active approach to learning. Study habits are important so I stress a positive attitude towards well-being and I demonstrate ways of improving learning skills. I also like students to use modern technology (especially e-resources) where and when possible. I am very patient and understand the problems learners can have with the learning process.

I am a 20 year old student at the University of Nottingham studying a BA in English and American Studies. My particular passions lie within the field of literature and writing (one of my hobbies). Tutoring Approach:
I believe patience, appropriate pace and an empathetic attentiveness to an individual's learning needs are essential attributes for anyone hoping to facilitate the understanding of ideas and their application by others. I believe I have these qualities as a tutor. I also have a keen sense of how much successful learning depends on both the learner's and teacher's motivation, enthusiasm and interest in the subject.

I much prefer one-to-one or small-group tutoring, particularly where if a foreign language is involved.
