| Personal Description: I am a fully qualified Modern Foreign Languages and EFL teacher, who has lived and worked in Spain, Germany and England. I enjoy meeting people of other nationalities and exchanging ideas about different cultures and experiences. |
Teaching Experience: I have worked as an EFL teacher since 1994 - teaching both abroad and in England to multi-lingual and monolingual classes. In Spain I taught children from 5 years old and businessmen in company, while in England I taught children from 12 years old at residential summer schools. I have also had some experience in teaching both German and Spanish at secondary schools (as a supply teacher). I am currently teaching EFL and ESOL at an FE college in Nottingham. I teach general English but also prepare students for IELTS and ESOL Skills for Life examinations. In addition I taught EAP (Academic English) at Nottingham Trent University last summer. |
Tutoring Approach: I prefer small group teaching which allows students to interact with each other but can also teach on a one-to-one basis. I believe in student centred, active, task based learning. |

| Personal Description: I am a recent graduate from the University of London, and have studied Literature, History and the Italian language as parts of my degree. Additionally, I have developed a wide knowledge of philosophy, both in generally as part of my study, and in a specialized course on Art Philosophy in my final year. As a relatively young tutor I pride myself on my ability to engage with pupils, and enjoy working with individuals towards a strong personal goal. I believe that even compulsory education should be enjoyable, and that with a little nudge in the right direction, any pupil can discover a life-long passion for learning. |
Teaching Experience: As President of my University's Creative Writing Society, I was actively involved in giving constructive criticism and feedback to members. I believe that my personal approach helped to build their confidence and skills in equal measure. Both before and during my University career I have taken opportunities to do work experience at local schools, and to work with students of all ages. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that a solid essay writing style is the foundation to any academic subject, just as grammar underpins any language. This is especially vital to those pupils working towards a University place, but is in fact important in all walks of life. Solid writing and language skills open doors to interviews and careers just as much as they do to Halls of Residences. I work to ensure that these vital elements are interesting and exciting to pupils, while building on their knowledge of the subject material. Many pupils are surprised to realize just how much they know about a subject, and this realization can provide a real boost to their confidence. This confidence is the key to the fantastic results I want to inspire my students to achieve. I also offer Proofreading for essays and Personal Statements, and a Mock Exam Sitting Service. |

| Personal Description: In 2008 I completed a doctorate at Queen's University Belfast on modern and contemporary poetry. I have extensive teaching experience at undergraduate level, but also work for Student Services at QUB. In this latter role I work closely with students with various disabilities as a Study Skills Tutor, helping them to maximize their potential as students and to cope with stress and time-management issues, among other things. I am a genial, outgoing, friendly person, with a passion for literature and lots of teaching experience, and my role as a Study Skills Tutor at Queen's has helped me develop as a personal tutor. I have extensive experience of Study Skills tuition, having worked as a Study Skills Tutor at Queen's University since 2009, helping students maximize their learning potential through attention to literacy skills, essay structuring, and time and stress management. Also, I've had quite a few private students through Uk Tutors by now, so I know the script! I'm particularly keen to tutor over the upcoming summer months. |
Teaching Experience: 2005-2008, QUB: 'Victorianism to Modernism', 2nd year undergraduate module in literature. 2007, School of Lifelong Learning, QUB: '20th Century British and Irish Poetry for Beginners', a self-devised course for all entry-levels. 2008-2010, QUB: 'Sounds of the City', 1st year undergraduate module in literature. 2009: 'English in Transition', 1st year undergraduate module in literature. 2009: 'Introduction to American Writing', 2nd year undergraduate module in literature. |
Tutoring Approach: I am extremely passionate about literature and its role in improving literacy and young people's critical skills, believing that it should be taught in a genial, friendly, interactive atmosphere in order to engender a genuine passion for the subject and to achieve the best results. As a tutor of undergraduates at Queen's, I enjoy discussion and debate, and one of the biggest pay-offs in this role is helping students gain a perspective on a text they did not previously have, as well as helping them to improve as readers, as scholars, and as thinkers. I love the teaching experience and believe my enthusiasm for teaching and for literature, and for helping people realize their potential, have been a positive factor in my teaching roles thus far, both in the role of private tutor and as a teacher at Queen's University. A tutee of mine will have a clear idea of what is expected of them from week to week, will have clear learning outcomes, and access to a range of textbooks, casebooks and other learning materials provided by me. |

| Personal Description: I am a mother of three young girls ranging from 11 - 2 years old. I have often been frustrated with how rigid the school environment can be and how it can fail to provide the personal support that at times they have required. I have had to inject a significant amount of time and effort to make up for this shortfall. I understand that the resources are limited but it is a fact of life that students who require a little extra can often miss out. It is my personal experience with my own children that has motivated me into becoming a private tutor. I can imagine that it must be even more frustrating for those parents who want to provide additional support for their children, but perhaps are unsure of how to, due to lack of knowledge about the education system. I hope that my personal experience as a parent combined with my professional experience as a teacher will help to bridge that gap. |
Teaching Experience: I am currently teaching at a large comprehensive in Old Hill. I teach a variety of Business and Economic courses at GCSE and A Level. I am also responsible for moderating the level 1 and 2 Key skills courses ( Maths, English and ICT) for the school. I teach BTEC Levels 1, 2 and 3, VGCSE, GCSE and A Level. I have also taught KS3 Maths and English on a one to one basis for students who have found these subjects challenging. |
Tutoring Approach: I am very focused about ensuring that my teaching meets the needs of the individual. This is not always possible in a classroom, however, the beauty of one to one tutoring is that the teaching and delivery is custom to the individual. My experience of one to one is that significant progress can be made by the students. In particular their confidence in their own ability develops helping them to continue to make progress even when the tutoring has finished. Communication is vital, the only way that I am able to meet the specific needs of each student is if effective communication between parents, student and tutor takes place. This doesn't have to be formal - often little passing comments made by students are indications of what is really causing problems or barriers to their learning. Finally I would ensure that my sessions are a positive experience that students enjoy rather than dread. Tutoring isn't school, it isn't about rules and structure, its about the student. |

| Personal Description: I hold an English and Writing BA Hons, First Class. I am currently a post-graduate student at Leicester University and am about to complete a Victorian Studies M.A. In September 2010 I will embark upon a PhD at Leicester University. My research area will be adaptations of the novels of Charles Dickens. I work part-time as a Youth Justice Officer. I am also a parent of a child (now grown-up) with specific learning difficulties so have an understanding of the needs of dyslexic children. |
Teaching Experience: I have mentored university students for the past four years. I also have ten years experience of teaching thinking skills to adult and young offenders. This experience has enabled me to develop excellent skills for promoting self-confidence in my students as well as skills in motivating and engaging disaffected students. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that the key to teaching and motivating students is communicating my own enthusiasm for the subject. To this end I believe that lessons should be structured enough to meet the aims and learning outcomes (which are always clearly identified) but flexible enough to allow the young person to pursue their own academic ideas. Only when both aims are met can real learning occur. My focus is to help each student gain confidence in their own ability. Having taught offenders for ten years I have developed very good skills at engaging both students who are lacking in confidence and students who have lost interest in a subject. These skills have proved to be transferable to students of any age and from any background. I provide homework where appropriate, which either consolidates the previous lesson's learning or involves preparation for the next lesson. |

| Personal Description: I am a former lecturer in Learning Skills with a Grade One college of FE. My degrees are in Business and Modern Languages (French and German) BA (Hons) and an MA in History. I also have a PGCE (FENTO). I am a Member of the Institute for Learning (MIfL). My earlier work experience was in accounting with a multi-national company and in advice work with Social Services and CAB. |
Teaching Experience: I had 10 years teaching experience working with students in groups and one to one who have learning difficulties and on mainstream courses (GCSE, AS, A levels and vocational courses). The students were 16 -18 years old and adults on Access and degree level courses. I have also taught vocational German (Level 2) and History at GCSE and A level to students without learning difficulties. |
Tutoring Approach: I encourage the student to develop a reflective, active approach to learning. Study habits are important so I stress a positive attitude towards well-being and I demonstrate ways of improving learning skills. I also like students to use modern technology (especially e-resources) where and when possible. I am very patient and understand the problems learners can have with the learning process. |

| Personal Description: I am a 20 year old student at the University of Nottingham studying a BA in English and American Studies. My particular passions lie within the field of literature and writing (one of my hobbies). I am currently embarking on a creative writing course and so constantly learning new writing techniques. I feel that my position as a student gives me a great advantage in communicating with my pupils and allows me to have a young, vibrant and up-to-date view on teaching. It also means I am able to relate to exam pressure and help the pupils prepare adequately for these. |
Teaching Experience: I have worked with children in many of my jobs. Most importantly I was a Nursery and Kindergarten Classroom Assistant which enabled me to teach children in a wide number of disciplines. As well as this I have gained a TEFL qualification and taught English abroad. I have also held nannying positions in the past few years. I have also helped children in the younger age categories with learning difficulties. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that an important part of tutoring is held with the tutor to inspire their pupils and draw out their ability to learn and succeed. I believe a passionate approach to the subject that is both enjoyable but structured is the key to success. Setting work around the subject is important and appropriate work will be given. |

| Personal Description: I am 26 years old and have obtained a degree in Primary Education from Manchester Metropolitan University. I have a diverse range of interests from computing to both playing and watching rugby. |
Teaching Experience: I have completed a 4 year teaching degree at Manchester Metropolitan University which qualifies me to teach all subjects at Primary School level. Having spent a year teaching a mixed year 5 and 6 class in a small rural school I moved to Leeds to my current school. I spent my first two years teaching year 5 and now teach a mixed year 3 and 4 class. At university I specialised in maths and design and technology, however I have since secured a role as science coordinator in my current school. I have also established a successful link with an Indian Primary School as part of and International Partnership Scheme - I have a strong belief that children should be taught to appreciate and accept other cultures, nationalities, religions and traditions on the same level as their own. Prior to my degree I spent several months in Malaysia teaching English as a foreign language to Primary aged children. |
Tutoring Approach: I have a fairly relaxed attitude to tutoring as I find that children respond better when they feel more relaxed. For me tutoring should not feel like an extension of school in terms of structure and academic pressure (at least not at primary level), rather the children should be introduced to teaching methods that are more fun and relaxed but impractical within a school setting due to larger numbers of children. |

| Personal Description: I'm a full-time tutor, which means that my students come first. You won't find yourself squeezed in beside a hectic day job or research. As a Cambridge graduate with an MA in Spanish and French, I am not only an experienced linguist but have also studied literary theory and criticism (essential for English Literature from GCSE onwards) to an advanced level - and enjoy helping others to get to grips with them. I work with students of all ages and levels - no two lessons are ever the same! |
Teaching Experience: I officially began tutoring in 2004 whilst living and studying in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. The wide range of students I have worked with since that time allowed me to gain experience of adapting to individuals' specific needs, including complete beginners, exam preparation and those interested in specialist areas. |
Tutoring Approach: We can often overcome our struggle with a subject simply by trying a different approach, and as a private tutor this is what I aim to help you do. Each learner is different, and you may want to specify where the focus of a class lies, but with languages I favour a strongly practical approach, which gets you learning intuitively and is much more enjoyable than being slumped over a text book. We'll cover all the theory you need, too. In English Literature, whether it's helping decipher your first Shakespearean play or ensuring that that final essay really stands out from the rest - I can help. |

| Personal Description: I have passed my bachelors of engineering in Computer Sciences with 70.6% as an aggregate and pursuing MSc. in Project Management. I have done diploma in French Language and passed the A1 level with 72% from Alliance Francaise. I have passed my High Secondary with 70 % and Senior Secondary with 81%. Teaching Experience: While I was in my university I worked as private Tutor and covered Maths, Chemistry, physics and computers as main subjects. I can teach programming languages like C and C++. MS office and MS .NET platform of programming. I taught geography and Science to middle school students. I basically worked as a tutor for about 4 years which is quite long duration and have an idea of where students find difficulties and how to solve them. |
Tutoring Approach: I keep a positive approach while teaching any topic. I suppose that the student has no idea of the topic and I try to create a base in such a way that he/she finds the topic interesting and lively. I believe in giving real life examples and to keep studies based on research and analysis. I always follow a policy of under-commitment and over-deliver. |

| Personal Description: I am an Antipodean and Continental graduate in Politics, German and English with an International House qualification to teach English as a foreign language to adults. I am fluent in German and well-informed about German life and culture, having lived and worked in the German-speaking world (Upper Austria & Lower Saxony) for 9 years. I also have a working knowledge of Italian, basic French and a rudimentary grasp of other major European languages. I like to think of myself as an aspiring European with an engaged interest in global affairs. I am primarliy engaged as Project Officer for a tertiary-level research and publishing project based in London and Cambridge that charts the reception of British and Irish authors in Europe, from Francis Bacon to James Joyce. A significant part of my professional role involves editing and proof-reading academic texts, and I'm happy to undertake this for tutees. I am also a freelance researcher, writer and exhibition curator. My speciality and primary experience has been in organizing international educational touring exhibitions of contemporary social and political cartoons. This draws on my doctoral research on the satirical iconography of British-German relations from the Second World War to the end of the 20th century. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught German, English and Politics in England (GCSE and A-level), and English as a foreign language at all levels in grammar schools in Austria and Germany. I also taught English as a foreign language -primarily to trainee German teachers of English - and for Academic & Special Purposes (law, business studies, social sciences) as well as British cultural studies at the University of Osnabruck, Lower Saxony, for eight years. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe patience, appropriate pace and an empathetic attentiveness to an individual's learning needs are essential attributes for anyone hoping to facilitate the understanding of ideas and their application by others. I believe I have these qualities as a tutor. I also have a keen sense of how much successful learning depends on both the learner's and teacher's motivation, enthusiasm and interest in the subject. I much prefer one-to-one or small-group tutoring, particularly where if a foreign language is involved. I believe the intensity of experience such interaction provides is the next best thing to direct engagement with a foreign language in the context in which it is naturally spoken. This is in no small part informed by my own experience as a foreign-language learner. |
