| Personal Description: I am a former science technician, working in clinical research labs on projects linked to Cancer Research and Addison's disease, who started tutoring and then teaching as a means of support while completing academic studies. |
Teaching Experience: I started as a private tutor in 2004 and then became a visiting lecturer in A level Biology at Sutton Coldfield college where I also taught Anatomy and Physiology for holistic therapy and Access to Teaching (level 3 science) courses. I have since worked as a supply teacher in the West Midlands, providing cover for absence in a number of secondary schools and as a part time lecturer in Biology (A level) at Solihull sixth form college. As part of my PGCE studies, I have also had experience in KS2 teaching (all primary subjects including literacy and numeracy preparation for KS2 SATs). |
Tutoring Approach: The most effective approach to tutoring varies depending on the student, the problem and the resources available. Therefore, I tend to assess each appointment on a case by case basis. The most common approach is to assess the areas of the subject in which the student is having the most problems and review what teaching has already been given in that area by looking through exercise books. This is followed by working through these problem areas, filling in any gaps in knowledge and discussing methods for revision and exam technique. Also offer review and advice on essays, assignments and other coursework. This can be done either in person or online (tutee sends files in appropriate formats and recieves e-mail with comments and suggestions for improvement). |

| Personal Description: I am a working Research Assistant in Health, Social Care and Psychology, tutoring in my spare time. I am friendly and professional, and can provide relaxed, good quality tutoring to a range of ages. |
Teaching Experience: I have experience teaching English as a foreign language for the largest language education company in the world, and have always unofficially tutored friends throughout my education. I have now tutored several students through UK Tutors. |
Tutoring Approach: I can tutor students either individually or in groups, and my focus is on encouraging students to think for themselves and generate their own learning progress through prompts and feedback following tuition. I have completed secondary and further education myself very recently and therefore understand both the structure and nature of the work required, and the problems faced by students who need some extra help. I believe that everyone is capable of achieving their academic goals, and those who find themselves struggling more often than not simply need things explaining differently, or their questions answered more comprehensively. I am also more than happy to put together one-off sessions in an informal lecture format to give an overview of my subject areas as well as basic IT skills, SPSS, research skills etc. Session fees are negotiable depending on your requirements, but start at 30/hour. |

| Personal Description: I am currently a supply teacher working within the birmingham area. I thoroughly enjoy my profession as it gives me the opportunity to help develop other peoples potential. I enjoy helping others to further their knowledge and try my best to help them suceed in reaching their goals. I believe learning should be interactive and fun and thus pride myself on helping to enthuse learners. |
Teaching Experience: I have been in the teaching profession for 4 years and have worked in many different schools within Birmingham both as a full time and supply teacher. I have experience of working in both primary and secondary schools and have also had some experience of tutoring adults. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is to find out the correct level of the tutee and then to ask what the tutee finds difficult. This then forms the plan of action for the tutee focusing on problem areas while also revisiting other areas to consolidate understanding. My approach is to combine the use of visual and physical materials as well as using ICT to tackle the problems areas from as many different angles. |

| Personal Description: I have recently completed my PhD in ecotoxicology (investigating the effects of chemicals on the environment) and have an undergraduate biology degree. I have significant experience of biology, ecology, toxicology, environmental science, organic chemistry and proteomics (molecular biology). During my PhD I won several awards for the communication of my research and took part in open days to talk about science to the public. Through my PhD I developed a passion for communicating and teaching about subjects I care greatly about. I believe my enthusiasm coupled with my age (I am only 26) means I both have the knowledge to teach and also the recent experience to relate to what tutees need to achieve. |
Teaching Experience: I have experience of supervising an undergraduate student for his dissertation (he achieved a 1st class degree) and running small tuition groups for undergraduate. While I may lack extensive tutoring experience I feel my enthusiasm and hard work make me a very effective tutor. I do have extensive experience of proofreading degree/MSc/PhD standard documents. |
Tutoring Approach: I have a fun, enthusiastic approach to teaching. I believe if a student (no matter how old) is not enjoying their work, it becomes infinitely harder to be successful. I was tutored during my GCSE's and understand the right and wrong ways to go about teaching. I truly believe anybody can learn anything, it just takes some people longer than others. With that in mind I know students can achieve the goals that they are looking for. Learning should be fun and I will always try and pass that on to students. |

| Personal Description: I have just studied for a BA Hons Education Studies and English at Bishop Grosseteste University College and I obtained a 2:1 classification. I have a very broad range of knowledge especially with English and the humanities subjects and I can put my knowledge of study skills to use also. I am a mature student myself and I can put that knowledge of what it is like to study, especially when it comes to adult education. |
Teaching Experience: I gained a lot of experience as part of my degree study in primary as well as secondary schools (one of which I was able to teach poetry to A-Level students). My approach to my placements was to be as interactive with the children as I can be and I know that this approach worked because the pupils responded to me. |
Tutoring Approach: I would use the same approach to tutoring my clients. It is important that I get to know them while teaching them at the same time. |

| Personal Description: Hello! I have a Congratulatory First Class degree from Oxford in German and Linguistics, with an added distinction in spoken German. I have lived in Germany and Holland (I also speak Dutch) and have studied in Germany, too. I have postgraduate experience in German and Linguistics, and have also completed graduate seminars in English Literature and Rhetorical Theory. I have A-Levels in English Literautre, German, General Studies and History, all at grade A. I have a good knowlege of the UK exam system. Due to study commitments, the times I can tutor are very limited. Please email though, and we can discuss. |
Teaching Experience: Private tuition and classes in English for German students. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe teaching should be fun and try to introduce basic grammatical structures as early as possible in language teaching, so that students can begin to form their own novel sentences quickly and correctly. I also try to include some cultural knowledge into my lessons, having lived abroad for a couple of years. I am also well-equipped to offer advice on exam strategy. |

Focus on key concepts to increase fundamental knowledge and understanding of material. Main aims are to develop pupil's confidence and ability to answer exam questions accurately. | Personal Description: In 2008 I completed a doctorate at Queen's University Belfast on modern and contemporary poetry. I have extensive teaching experience at undergraduate level, but also work for Student Services at QUB. In this latter role I work closely with students with various disabilities as a Study Skills Tutor, helping them to maximize their potential as students and to cope with stress and time-management issues, among other things. I am a genial, outgoing, friendly person, with a passion for literature and lots of teaching experience, and my role as a Study Skills Tutor at Queen's has helped me develop as a personal tutor. I have extensive experience of Study Skills tuition, having worked as a Study Skills Tutor at Queen's University since 2009, helping students maximize their learning potential through attention to literacy skills, essay structuring, and time and stress management. Also, I've had quite a few private students through Uk Tutors by now, so I know the script! I'm particularly keen to tutor over the upcoming summer months. |
Teaching Experience: 2005-2008, QUB: 'Victorianism to Modernism', 2nd year undergraduate module in literature. 2007, School of Lifelong Learning, QUB: '20th Century British and Irish Poetry for Beginners', a self-devised course for all entry-levels. 2008-2010, QUB: 'Sounds of the City', 1st year undergraduate module in literature. 2009: 'English in Transition', 1st year undergraduate module in literature. 2009: 'Introduction to American Writing', 2nd year undergraduate module in literature. |
Tutoring Approach: I am extremely passionate about literature and its role in improving literacy and young people's critical skills, believing that it should be taught in a genial, friendly, interactive atmosphere in order to engender a genuine passion for the subject and to achieve the best results. As a tutor of undergraduates at Queen's, I enjoy discussion and debate, and one of the biggest pay-offs in this role is helping students gain a perspective on a text they did not previously have, as well as helping them to improve as readers, as scholars, and as thinkers. I love the teaching experience and believe my enthusiasm for teaching and for literature, and for helping people realize their potential, have been a positive factor in my teaching roles thus far, both in the role of private tutor and as a teacher at Queen's University. A tutee of mine will have a clear idea of what is expected of them from week to week, will have clear learning outcomes, and access to a range of textbooks, casebooks and other learning materials provided by me. |

| Personal Description: I graduated from the University of Warwick with an Upper Second-Class Honours Degree (2.1) in History and Sociology in 2009. Currently I am finishing a Masters at the University of Nottingham, but I'm based in London working part-time. Teaching is something I thoroughly enjoy and find very rewarding; I hope to continue working in education in the future. |
Teaching Experience: I have a great deal of teaching experience with both children and adults. In the past, I have taught people for whom English is their second language, as well as native English speakers. For the past 9 months I have been tutoring GCSE Sociology and English. I have had good feedback from my tutee, and she has significantly improved her grades. I worked for the Kumon Learning Centre for one year where I tutored children between the ages of four and twelve. After working there for four months I was promoted to Senior English Assistant. In the summer of 2008 I volunteered as a foreign language teacher in South East Asia. In Vietnam I had two classes a day for which I had to prepare lesson plans. In one class I taught children between the ages of twelve and seventeen, while in an evening class I taught thirty adult learners (see picture). In Cambodia I volunteered for the Cambodian Children's Painting Project, a recognised NGO. I taught children basic reading and writing skills for five hours each day. My experience in Asia has given me great confidence in my teaching abilities with regards to both children and adults. Over the past 6 months I have been conducting some research for the Nottinghamshire Domestic Violence Forum. This enabled me to help deliver educational sessions in schools about issues of domestic violence and healthy relationships. Furthermore, I have a good grasp of the national curriculum, having worked for the examination board Edexcel. |
Tutoring Approach: I fully understand the paramount importance of education. I believe a teacher must adapt his or her skills to the particular needs of the tutee. Creating an appropriate atmosphere for learning is crucial. As an approachable, friendly person, I hope to build up my students' confidence so they are able to excel in their studies, as well as enjoy them. I want my students to enjoy learning. Depending on the age of the student and the subject being taught, games and quizzes can provide good tools for revision. As a recent post-graduate student myself, I have a fresh and up-to date approach to teaching. I will spend the necessary amount of time outside lessons to ensure each session is well planned. Having worked for two years for a university confidential listening service, I am patient and responsive. I find teaching extremely rewarding and strive to help each of my students succeed. |

| Personal Description: I am a recent graduate from the University of London, and have studied Literature, History and the Italian language as parts of my degree. Additionally, I have developed a wide knowledge of philosophy, both in generally as part of my study, and in a specialized course on Art Philosophy in my final year. As a relatively young tutor I pride myself on my ability to engage with pupils, and enjoy working with individuals towards a strong personal goal. I believe that even compulsory education should be enjoyable, and that with a little nudge in the right direction, any pupil can discover a life-long passion for learning. |
Teaching Experience: As President of my University's Creative Writing Society, I was actively involved in giving constructive criticism and feedback to members. I believe that my personal approach helped to build their confidence and skills in equal measure. Both before and during my University career I have taken opportunities to do work experience at local schools, and to work with students of all ages. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that a solid essay writing style is the foundation to any academic subject, just as grammar underpins any language. This is especially vital to those pupils working towards a University place, but is in fact important in all walks of life. Solid writing and language skills open doors to interviews and careers just as much as they do to Halls of Residences. I work to ensure that these vital elements are interesting and exciting to pupils, while building on their knowledge of the subject material. Many pupils are surprised to realize just how much they know about a subject, and this realization can provide a real boost to their confidence. This confidence is the key to the fantastic results I want to inspire my students to achieve. I also offer Proofreading for essays and Personal Statements, and a Mock Exam Sitting Service. |

| Personal Description: I am a 27 year old Drama with English graduate with 5 years experience working in various educational settings. I have a braod range of interests particularly literature and poetry, music, languages, construction and environmental studies. I have just returned from living in South America to perfect my Spanish. |
Teaching Experience: I have just returned from a year in Argentina where I was tutoring business clients in English as well as volunteering working with young people in the slum areas on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. Prior to that I was woorking as an Education Officer developing environmental education resources and projects in primary, secondary and sixth form schools. I worked before that as a supply teacher in schools around the north east. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach is flexible depending on the students and their learning style and levels of achievement. I like to concentrate on maintaining a students flow, providing them with work that is challenging but attainable. I believe in regard to languages an emphasis on fluent conversational ability is important but should be underpinned with a solid understanding of grammar. |

| Personal Description: I am a mother of three young girls ranging from 11 - 2 years old. I have often been frustrated with how rigid the school environment can be and how it can fail to provide the personal support that at times they have required. I have had to inject a significant amount of time and effort to make up for this shortfall. I understand that the resources are limited but it is a fact of life that students who require a little extra can often miss out. It is my personal experience with my own children that has motivated me into becoming a private tutor. I can imagine that it must be even more frustrating for those parents who want to provide additional support for their children, but perhaps are unsure of how to, due to lack of knowledge about the education system. I hope that my personal experience as a parent combined with my professional experience as a teacher will help to bridge that gap. |
Teaching Experience: I am currently teaching at a large comprehensive in Old Hill. I teach a variety of Business and Economic courses at GCSE and A Level. I am also responsible for moderating the level 1 and 2 Key skills courses ( Maths, English and ICT) for the school. I teach BTEC Levels 1, 2 and 3, VGCSE, GCSE and A Level. I have also taught KS3 Maths and English on a one to one basis for students who have found these subjects challenging. |
Tutoring Approach: I am very focused about ensuring that my teaching meets the needs of the individual. This is not always possible in a classroom, however, the beauty of one to one tutoring is that the teaching and delivery is custom to the individual. My experience of one to one is that significant progress can be made by the students. In particular their confidence in their own ability develops helping them to continue to make progress even when the tutoring has finished. Communication is vital, the only way that I am able to meet the specific needs of each student is if effective communication between parents, student and tutor takes place. This doesn't have to be formal - often little passing comments made by students are indications of what is really causing problems or barriers to their learning. Finally I would ensure that my sessions are a positive experience that students enjoy rather than dread. Tutoring isn't school, it isn't about rules and structure, its about the student. |
