Personal Description:
I am 33 years old and currently live in London. I am originally from Derbyshire in the north of England. Before becoming a teacher, I worked with children aged between 2 and 12 in a variety of environments. I enjoy sport and run and coach the school Year 6 football team, I also enjoy playing tennis and swimming. I have worked with children of various ages for the last six years and have been a qualified teacher for 5 years.

Teaching Experience:

I am a fully qualified primary school teacher and currently preparing a Year 6 class for their 11+ exams in West London. I have 5 years experience in teaching during which time I have taught Year 4 (8/9 year olds), Year 5 and Year 6 (10/11 year olds, final year at primary school). Last year I underwent training for a one-to-one teaching programme, which involved working with individual children, each for an hour a week. As a full time primary school teacher, I teach all National Curriculum subjects including Maths, English and Science, I also have experience teaching the 11+ syllabus. I was also the ICT coordinator at a previous school and excel in the subject knowledge and teaching of this subject.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that patience, flexibility and a desire for a child to reach their potential are key to being a successful tutor. Children need to be extended and pushed to ensure that they are not just doing the minimum to succeed, but the best that they can possibly do. I believe that my approach to tutoring is a balance of patience and persistence which is very successful in getting results. I am flexible in the way that I tutor, meaning that I can use a variety of teaching styles to suit the individual child's needs. No two children are the same and therefore each child learns in a different way. I am sensitive to the individuals needs and am able to find the best way for them to reach their potential.

I AM ALSO ABLE TO TUTOR FOR THE 11+.

Personal Description:
I have a Ph.D in English literature so I am happy to tutor up to postgraduate level. I am a qualified nurse, with experience in general nursing, children's nursing, and adult nursing. I was then employed by the Disabilities Trust to work in acquired brain injury -- this opened up my field to mental health and learning disability.

In the meantime I studied my passion -- English Literature. This lead from a First Class Honours to a Masters, then a Ph.D at Newcastle University. I have taught English and drama to a variety of student ages and abilities, and my background in nursing gives me a different kind of approachable, 'can do' teaching style.

Teaching Experience:

Newcastle University -- Tuition of English Literature and Film Studies at Degree Level.

Creative Writing -- tuition to people with mental health problems and those who had recovered from illess.

Tuition to 11 - 14 year olds in Tipperary, Ireland.

Reading and writing skills with the Disabilities Trust in York.

KS1, KS2, GCSE, AS Level, Degree Level tuition at HMP Frankland, Co. Durham, (in a challenging male setting of mixed abilities)

Newcastle University -- Tuition of English Literature and Film Studies at Degree Level.

Creative Writing -- tuition to people with mental health problems and those who had recovered from illess.

Tutoring Approach:

I am friendly, warm and down-to-earth. My tuition is very much led by the student's individual needs. We start with some of your coursework so that I can get to know the syllabus and find out what your strengths are. Then we look for the hot spots that are causing you difficulty, and work through these until you feel more confident with them.

It is important that we work in a way where both of us participate -- the last thing I want is for a student to have to sit and listen to me for an hour. That rarely helps anyone!

I must charge the full amount for any sessions missed with less than 24 hours notice.

Personal Description:
Hi,

As a mother of two and in my career experience so far, I have learned to be patient, supportive and encouraging with children, young people and inexperienced, unconfident adults. I'm a warm, approachable person with a calm, unflappable demeanour and a good sense of humour. I have a BA (Hons) degree in English and Media and Communications Studies and an up-to-date DBS (CRB) check.

After over 10 years of working in television as a script editor, script reader and occasional writer, I moved onto work in schools, my most recent job being in a mixed secondary school as a Learning Support Assistant. My creative background means I have a strong emphasis on reading, writing and communication skills. While working at the BBC (EastEnders) in 2005, I was made redundant, and my husband and I decided to turn a negative experience into a positive one so we spent about six months travelling to places including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and India. We returned home when I became pregnant with our first daughter. For about two years I freelanced from home, writing and editing for a couple of travel websites and reading and reporting on scripts for an independent TV company.

Once I became a mother myself, my priorities changed and I gave up my television career to work with young people - something I find rewarding, challenging and inspiring on a daily basis. I feel great satisfaction in working with children and helping them to achieve all that they can be - I enjoy their company and find their enquiring minds and personal growth and development fascinating. Of course I work very well with adults too and currently tutor two writers; one published in Europe, the other an inspiring novelist.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring students ranging from Year 3 to 11+ preparation, from pre-GCSE and GCSE English support to A level Film and Media Studies. Some of my students have additional education needs relating to dyslexia and autism. I have successfully helped GCSE and A Level students to gain the grades they needed to develop their education further. My previous A Level students are now enjoying their university courses and my GCSE students are now studying A Levels and Further Education courses, as per their target. I also tutor adults, mostly in creative writing, and international students, in learning to speak and understand English.

At the moment I am teaching students from Year 3 through to A level stage, as well as two adults for creative writing. I am also teaching English to two French teenagers who are visiting for a week with their family, for the sole purpose of receiving English tuition.

I have worked and volunteered at five schools now, including one primary school and one first school. Most of my school experience has been working for the Support department, focusing on children with Special Educational Needs. Some of the pupils have behavioural issues or physical disabilities, but most of them have learning difficulties such as dyslexia, ADHD and autism. I worked with these children within the mainstream classroom environment, offering them encouragement and support and helping them to understand the teachers' instructions. I also occasionally worked on a one-to-one basis with them away from the classroom, helping them to focus without any distractions.
At the primary school, I supported Year 2 and Year 3 children with reading and DT. This was done on either a one-to-one basis, or in small groups. Currently, I volunteer once a week in a Reception class, where I help children with their reading.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer a calm, supportive approach and begin with assessing the student to see where their strengths and weaknesses lie. Then I tailor their sessions accordingly. I break up the sessions into different segments using fun activities where appropriate to help with their learning process. I believe that children should find learning stimulating and interactive, and not feel that they are just being 'talked at'. I am open to different types of teaching, and particularly with students who need extra support, I like to try to think 'outside of the box'.

Personal Description:
Does your child struggle with maths or English? Are they falling behind at school?
Do they need a confidence boost?
Maybe they need preparation for SATs or 11+?

I specialise in helping children who are struggling, and over the past few years have achieved some excellent results!

My qualifications are as follows:
BEd Primary Qualified Teacher Status (subject specialism English) (2003)

British Dyslexia Association and Unicorn Maths- `Dyscalculia Plus` (2012)

I have a Masters in Education, completed this year. The modules I studied are as follows:
`Educational enquiry` (research in education) (2013)
`Investigating language in action`(supporting learners of English) (2012)
`Difficulties in literacy development` (specifically dyslexia) (2008)

BTEC National Diploma in Childhood Studies (Learning and development 0-8 years) (1999)

9 GCSE`s all A-C:
Child Development, English Literature, English Language, Mathematics, French, History, Religious Education, Science. (1997)

Teaching Experience:

My specialist subject is English and Special Educational Needs. I have attended courses on suitable methods to support dyslexic students, and recently completed a course with the British Dyslexia Association on how to assess and teach children with dyscalculia.

I taught in an inner city school for 8 years. Here, I gained experience with children aged 3-11, from different backgrounds and cultures, and with a wide variety of needs.
I have also worked with many children to overcome confidence and self esteem issues, resulting in much better performance in class.

As a tutor, I am currently working with children who have a range of needs. These include:
dyslexia
dyspraxia
dyscalculia (difficulty with maths)
self esteem or confidence issues
children who struggle at school due to emotional or behavioural problems
children who have missed school due to illness or special needs
I am also working with a number of children who are home schooled.

Over the past 3 years tutoring full time, my students have made excellent progress in terms of confidence, catching up with age-related expectations and achieving level 4 or 5 in Year Six SATs.

As well as teaching, I have worked in a variety of settings as a nursery nurse and nanny. I have been able to build excellent relationships with parents and children and am still in touch with families that I have worked with over the years.
In addition to face-to-face tuition, I have taught online, up to university level, supporting teacher training students with their studies and lesson planning.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very calm, patient and friendly approach to teaching. A child who is not relaxed and confident simply will not reach their full potential. I build excellent relationships with students, and they look forward to my lessons.
I like to vary my teaching sessions (depending on age) using, for example, direct teaching, problem solving, quizzes, practical `hands-on` activities, time for the child to ask questions. Children can find it hard to sit at a desk for an hour or more, so I find that lots of short activities hold their interest and make them much more enthusiastic about learning.
I like to use technology in my teaching as there are some fantastic resources available that can really enhance learning. Also, using computers and other technological devices can really help get a child`s attention and make learning more fun!

Please contact me if you think I am the tutor you have been looking for.

In the last few years I have been teaching art to students with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ADHD and Aspergers gaining 100% A* to C GCSE passes.

Tutoring Approach:

Firstly, I would find out what your needs are and how I could meet those needs with my tuition. A series of lessons can be devised to meet those needs and personal progress will be reviewed on a week by week basis. This might be that you need to improve drawing skills to succeed or improve a grade at GCSE. A younger child might want to learn about painting and using colour, light and shape. You might be an adult wishing to learn how to make some fabulous pottery. For those with additional needs it might be finding ways to realise their visual ideas and develop confidence and understanding. I encourage, support and offer practical advice, skills and solutions.

Personal Description:
I am a father of three children, two of whom have finished university and one about to start.
I've been married for 32 years - to the same lady!
My original degree was in Civil Engineering which I did for 25 years, then I requalified as a Primary teacher about 10 years ago.
I do a lot of singing and have competed internationally for years - I am also the Musical Director of a choir.
About 10 years go, I built my own house - I'm just about to finish the garden!
Retirement approaches as a teacher, but I'm not ready to stop.

Teaching Experience:

I completed the Graduate (Teacher) Training Program 10 years ago and up until December 2012 I worked in a Special Needs School ever since, specialising in autism and learning disability.
I used to run a small class of students who required constant 1 to 1 support, and I mostly delivered the Primary Curriculum.
I now work for Nottingham City Council in the Inclusive Education Service as an Autism Team Teacher, delivering specialist support and training to mainstream teachers in both primary and secondary settings.

Tutoring Approach:

My first task is to build a relationship with my student whereby they (and their parents) know they can trust me and we can work together in a relaxed atmosphere.
I use an online software package to deliver, assess and report progress, and it covers literacy, numeracy and science up to Year 6. This package is ideal for both primary mainstream and older special needs students , and can include homework tasks where appropriate.
Ideally, I would prefer to work face-to-face with my students, either at their home or mine, but this is not absolutely necessary in these days of Skype. Probably some sort of mix of delivery is not a bad idea.
My purpose is to help students achieve their full potential - whatever that may be. Sometimes this will simply involve unlocking a few doors, sometimes it may contribute positively to exams - it all depends upon the individual.

Personal Description:
My name is Rachel and I have extensive experience in helping students of all ages and abilities to achieve their academic and language goals. I'm located in Stoke-on-Trent and deliver lessons in English Literature and Language at varying levels within Staffordshire and Cheshire.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working in education for the past six years and have been doing private tutoring since 2011. I currently work as the Learning Support Coordinator at a local college; a role that entails tutoring an abundance of students on a one-to-one basis through their exams and class work. I am very proud to say that I have an excellent success rate for students achieving their desired grade in exams. I think the secret to this is the intensity that one-to-one tutoring allows - focus is placed on a student's personal requirements rather than following a generic lesson plan.

Tutoring Approach:

All of my lessons are conducted according to the pupil's ability with enthusiasm and energy. My tutoring style is relaxed and lead by the student's interests in order to generate a comfortable and inspired environment and my success starts with building a good rapport with my students.

I thoroughly enjoy encouraging a passion for learning and use a variety of teaching strategies to enable a pupil to learn efficiently and to ensure the learning environment is creative and engaging. I thoroughly enjoy sharing my knowledge with others and my love for education is evident in my tutoring style.

My sessions will enable you or your child to achieve your targets and help you to establish your own effective methods of studying for future success.

All resources are provided; certified curriculum guides and books, course studies and past exam board papers.I offer something different to the usual school atmosphere and approach education from a variety of aspects in order to ensure a pupil can grasp a concept.

I can tutor at the student's house but request that sessions are a minimum of two hours and mileage will be charged at 45p per mile per session.

Personal Description:
I am a reliable and enthusiastic person, passionate about teaching and working with young people, although I would be happy to work with adults as well.
I am open minded, motivated and have a wide range of interests. I like travelling and discovering new countries as well as different cultures and traditions.
I love auteur cinema and always try to pass on my passion to the students in order to help them broaden their horizons.
I am fond of contemporary and modern art, which I can really appreciate in London thanks to the great cultural resources available.
I obtained a Bachelor and a Master of Art in History from University of Padua (Italy) respectively in September 2008 and in March 2012 and I have attended several courses related to Italian ancient, modern and contemporary Art, Literature and History. In 2008-2009 I spent ten months of my studies in Granada (Spain), during which time I perfected my Spanish and the knowledge of Spanish and Latin American culture and history.
After completing my Master's degree, I moved to Ireland where I worked as a students' tutor. I am currently employed in Barnet (London) as a Learning Support Assistant.

Teaching Experience:

Learning Support Assistant, 2013
Students' tutor, 2012-2013
Special needs student tutor, 2007-2008

I am currently working as a Learning Support Assistant in Barnet (London) where I support students with learning difficulties like dyspraxia, dyslexia, ADHD, speech and language problems (KS 3/4/5).

After completing my Master's in 2012, I worked as a student tutor in West Cork (Ireland) where I provided educational support to teenage students (KS 3/4/5, GSCE). I helped them in different subjects and in the preparation of their final exams providing individual as well as collective based educational support. During school hours I have also taught Spanish grammar and conversation.

I used to work as a special needs student tutor at the University of Padua (Italy) where I assisted University students with learning disabilities through the courses helping them taking notes and staying focused on the content of the class for example, as well as giving them extra educational support. I also helped them organizing their studying time and University courses schedules.

During my student exchange in Granada in 2008-2009, I acted as an English and Italian tutor for two Spanish children.

Tutoring Approach:

The areas of my competence are Special Educational Needs, Italian and Spanish languages.
My tutoring approach is communicative and effective, focused on reinforcing the students' learning abilities and self confidence.

When I teach languages I work with the 4 core skills: Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writing, in order to achieve a high standard preparation. I teach grammar, communications skills, literature, history and culture using a multimedia based approach to give the pupils a full and rounded experience of the foreign language.

I believe that every student has unique potential and abilities; I have always worked hard to discover and improve them using different approaches and teaching methods suitable for each pupil's needs and interests. I prepare well-paced lessons to identify and strengthen the students weak areas quickly and provide them with straightforward solutions.

The relationship I develop with my students and their parents is essential; I build strong
connections with each student using fun and enjoyable methods as the basis for all my tutorials. I am confident that I can use my advanced teaching and motivational skills to benefit my future students.

Personal Description:
I have been studying teaching at the University of Glasgow for four years. I was set to graduate during the summer and had secured a full time teaching position for September, but unfortunately due to medical circumstances I will now not be graduating until December. However, once graduated I will have a MA in Religious and philosophical education with secondary teaching. I have decided to tutor as I love any opportunity to work with young people and help with their education. Throughout my four years at university I have completed roughly 30 weeks teaching in schools and will be commencing a 12 week teaching practice at the end of this month. In the classroom I have noticed the improvements that pupils can make when they have a tutor and this is the main reason why I think it is a worthwhile thing to do. My specialist areas are Religion and Philosophy, however, I am equipped to teach English, literature, citizenship and drama as due to my interest in these areas I have studied the curriculum and am fully aware of what should be taught and how best to do this.

Teaching Experience:

I have completed three teaching practices and have a sound knowledge of the Scottish curriculum and the national qualifications in most subject areas. My experience lies mostly with religion and philosophy but also have a keen interest in English literature and have a knowledge of the curriculum as I plan to pursue this once I qualify as a religious education teacher. One of my placements has been in the primary sector, I am fully equipped to help pupils at this level with all subjects. Last summer I spent two months in France as an Au pair for a Family. During this time I tutored all three of their daughters with English, their two youngest daughters (aged 5 and 8) needed help with their basic reading, their eldest daughter (aged 11) attended an international school and I tutored her in English language and English literature. This experience helped me realise that i would like to also pursue a career as an English teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that tutoring can make a huge difference to a pupil's confidence in a subject and therefore in their academic performance. My approach to tutoring is to help pupils realise their potential, I provide opportunities for self-development and equip my pupils with the tools to allow them to teach themselves and effectively study to maximise their potential.
