Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic and committed teacher and enjoy teaching all subjects, in particular maths and literacy. I strive to make learning interactive and fun for children and get a lot of satisfaction from helping children to achieve their potential.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified primary school teacher and work mainly with 7-11 year olds. Prior to qualifying I worked for several years as a teaching assistant, often working on a one-to-one basis with children. I have a good range of teaching methods which I use to help children develop their knowledge and learning skills. I am able to build strong relationships with children, encouraging and leading them to become confident, independent learners. In addition to primary teaching I also have experience of teaching GCSE maths and level 2 adult maths.

Tutoring Approach:

All children are individuals and learn in different ways. I am able to offer a free initial assessment for your child (subject to location) and tailor lessons accordingly. I will always look at what children can do and work with them to discover the gaps in their knowledge and any misconceptions they may have. I feel it is important to set achievable targets and build up children's confidence in their own abilities. Linking the teaching of literacy and maths to other subjects and real life situations makes learning more meaningful to children.

Personal Description:
I am 33 years old and currently live in London. I am originally from Derbyshire in the north of England. Before becoming a teacher, I worked with children aged between 2 and 12 in a variety of environments. I enjoy sport and run and coach the school Year 6 football team, I also enjoy playing tennis and swimming. I have worked with children of various ages for the last six years and have been a qualified teacher for 5 years.

Teaching Experience:

I am a fully qualified primary school teacher and currently preparing a Year 6 class for their 11+ exams in West London. I have 5 years experience in teaching during which time I have taught Year 4 (8/9 year olds), Year 5 and Year 6 (10/11 year olds, final year at primary school). Last year I underwent training for a one-to-one teaching programme, which involved working with individual children, each for an hour a week. As a full time primary school teacher, I teach all National Curriculum subjects including Maths, English and Science, I also have experience teaching the 11+ syllabus. I was also the ICT coordinator at a previous school and excel in the subject knowledge and teaching of this subject.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that patience, flexibility and a desire for a child to reach their potential are key to being a successful tutor. Children need to be extended and pushed to ensure that they are not just doing the minimum to succeed, but the best that they can possibly do. I believe that my approach to tutoring is a balance of patience and persistence which is very successful in getting results. I am flexible in the way that I tutor, meaning that I can use a variety of teaching styles to suit the individual child's needs. No two children are the same and therefore each child learns in a different way. I am sensitive to the individuals needs and am able to find the best way for them to reach their potential.

I AM ALSO ABLE TO TUTOR FOR THE 11+.

Personal Description:
I am currently a part-time Lecturer and Academic Writing Tutor at the University of Warwick, where I teach Romantic and Victorian Poetry, English and French Romanticism, Literary Theory and Study Skills / Academic Writing Skills. I am the author of Dialogue, Didacticism and the Genres of Dispute: Literary Dialogues in an Age of Revolution (London: Pickering & Chatto), which uncovers the neglected role and significance of genre in Romantic Studies, I have published numerous academic journal articles and I am a regular contributor to The English Review, the UK's leading English subject magazine for AS / A2 English students. I have a particular interest in dyslexia and teaching and learning strategies for dyslexic students (I am dyslexic myself and was educated in accordance with the Morpheme and Unisensory approach pioneered at Maples Hayes School and Research Centre, where I was formally a pupil and Deputy Head Boy). I also run a successful academic proofreading service as a further means of supplementing my income...

Teaching Experience:

I have over 6 years of teaching experience at the University of Warwick and have been providing private tuition for over 2 years. During 'A' level resits in January 2013, my current cohort of tutees have all achieved grade 'A's or A * having previously attained Cs, Ds or even Es. All of my students have subsequently secured places at their first choice universities having received outstanding 'A' level results. I have taught in a variety of formats including large group lectures, seminars and one-to-one tutorials. I have also delivered a great deal of individualized study skills sessions for students, including those for whom English is a second language. I have also undertaken numerous courses through the University of Warwick's Learning and Development Centre and the internationally renowned Centre for Creativity and Performance in Teaching and Learning (CAPITAL). I have studied for and obtained the university's teaching qualification for Higher Education (Postgraduate Award: Academic and Professional Practice) and I am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, member of the Institute for Professional Tutors and member of The Tutors' Association. I also hold a City & Guilds 7302 Certificate in Delivering Learning, so potential tutees / parents can be assured that I have both the experience and qualifications to deliver first class, highly individualized learning across a wide variety of levels from GCSE to postgraduates.

Tutoring Approach:

As a dyslexic myself my teaching philosophy centres around the needs of each individual student rather than attempting to adopt a 'one size fits all' mentality. I see each students needs and learning styles as being unique, and I adopt my tutoring styles accordingly. More generally, however, I am an ardent believer in keeping things as simple and informal as possible, and I pay particular attention to the careful, logical, methodical sequencing of ideas in order to structure learning, revision and knowledge retention in the most productive and readily assimilated manner possible - a strategy which has derived in part from my own research into dyslexia. I am approachable, very friendly, innovative, flexible and informal, so students who perhaps feel let down by the mainstream education system would particularly benefit from my approach.
I ALWAYS arrange to see students for an initial meeting once contact details have been exchanged in order to fully explore what the student / parents are aiming to gain from private tutoring and to discuss what approaches, learning styles and support is required. #THIS IS A FREE MEETING WHICH I OFFER ALL OF MY PROSPECTIVE TUTEES#

Please note that unlike some tutors, I am a SPECIALIST IN ENGLISH LITERATURE, LANGUAGE AND ACADEMIC WRITING ONLY - I DO NOT BELIEVE IN TRYING TO OFFER MORE SUBJECTS AS A MEANS OF MAXIMIZING INCOME!

Tutoring Approach:

I take an informal approach when it comes to teaching. I encourage the social and moral development of children, through being a positive role model and building trusting relationships. I have also worked closely with the parents of these children, providing detailed feedback, information on targets and ways in which these can be achieved, and ensuring we work together to help the children achieve their targets, thus establishing productive relationships with them.

I recognise that greater results are achieved when there is a strong relationship between teacher and child. I also appreciate that all children have different needs and learning styles and so spend a lot of time tailoring my sessions to each individuals requirements.

Personal Description:
I am a Shakespeare fanatic with six years' classroom experience. I enjoy reading a wide range of fiction and non-fiction and became a teacher to share my passion for language. Now that I have a young family, I have decided to indulge my love of teaching outside the classroom to fit around raising my children. I keep in touch with my former colleagues to stay abreast of the rapidly developing education system.

Teaching Experience:

I've taught in Grammar schools in Kent, outer-London schools and a wide variety of institutions in Hong Kong. My subject knowledge covers English, Drama and Theatre Studies, and Classical Civilisation (the latter subjects are very useful for approaching English texts in innovative ways). I am most familiar with the new GCSE specification for AQA, but can happily adapt to other exam boards. I have experience tutoring 11-18 year olds and have worked with students with a variety of special needs.

Tutoring Approach:

I create personalised programmes to fit the needs of individual students and frequently adapt these to incorporate new texts and resources to keep the lessons fresh and relevant. My sessions tend to focus on assessment technique and start with short focused activities, building the skills necessary to complete longer written tasks designed to mimic the conditions of examinations. Alternatively, I can support students with their class work more directly, assisting with homework and helping with clarity of expression in other subjects too. I aim for students to enjoy our sessions and feel comfortable asking questions; my main goal is to help them improve and I can only do that through honest discussion of issues. I do expect high standards and find that my pupils meet my expectations and gain grades they are proud of, when they apply themselves. I like to have a good rapport with tutees' parents as I feel that learning is a joint initiative. Testimonials from former clients are available upon request.

Personal Description:
Hello,
I'm 18 years old and have worked since I left school. I, on occassions, baby sit for family and friends.
I'm an outgoing and happy young woman with a passion for teaching and tutoring, my favourite subjects at school were maths, psychology and sociology, child care and law.

Anything else you would like to know I will be more than happy to answer.

Teaching Experience:

My experience is not qualification based but I have in the past been asked to tutor foster children, including those with special needs and challenging behaviour.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring differentiates from person to person.
I find where the person is struggling, what kind of motivation they will respond to and go from there. I try to stay away from text books because I find that if it is possible to explain and show the student it is easier to understand rather than just showing them what to do.

Personal Description:
I am 26 years of age and have recently graduated with an MA in Sport and Development with a Merit. I am also working towards a spot on the GB Paratriathlon team. Gained decent grades in PE at all levels in my academia. I am a wheelchair user so if traveling to a tutee, would require an accessible entrance into the venue of choice

Teaching Experience:

I currently teach BTEC level 3 Applied Psychology, HND and Degree sports psychology, skill acquisition, coaching and sports development and can adapt these to GCSE level too. My ALevels were in general psychology and PE. I am also a Learning Support Assistant in a position to support those struggling with study skills and revision. Furthermore having a disability myself makes me best placed to understand the needs of those considered to have a SEN

Tutoring Approach:

I take and active-experimental learning approach to tutoring whereby students will get the opportunity to discover and analyse the areas of study critically. It is important also to recognise individual learning styles alongside using materials students have been directed too via the institution they attend

Personal Description:
Having grown up with my younger sister who has learning difficulties, I witnessed first-hand, the struggles and the triumphs she went through during her school career and it instilled in me a passion for supporting students with Special Needs. I worked for 8 years with a charity providing respite care for families of children and young people with a range of difficulties, and as a TA in a Special School before my Teacher Training.

Teaching Experience:

I completed my Teacher Training at The University of Hull - a 3 year Primary Teaching Degree for which I achieved a 2:1 with Outstanding teaching placements. Since graduating, I have taught Years 1-3 in an inner London Primary school and always ensured children made accelerated progress. During this time I took on responsibility for Science across the school, as well as the achievement of children with English as an Additional Language.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is to inspire children, create a love of learning and a thirst for knowledge. I believe in a practical approach to learning by planning activities that will capture interest - enjoy and achieve! Really understanding students strengths as well as their areas for development is the starting point for successful tutoring.
