Personal Description:
I am a BSc Geography graduate currently studying for an MA in Education Practice at De Montfort University. I am due to start my PGCE Teacher Training in September at the University of Leicester. Currently, I work full time as a Teaching Assistant at a special educational needs school in Leicester. In the past I have worked as a personal mentor for young adults. Teaching Experience:

I am currently a full time Teaching Assistant at a special educational needs school in Leicester. This role affords me the opportunity to teach a mixture of subjects to both groups of children and individuals in one to one sessions. Prior to this, I worked as a Sports Development Officer for Team Ltd, instructing large groups of children in a range of physical education activities. In addition, I have also been employed as a personal mentor and tutor to young adults.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to personally get to know the student in order to understand their unique engagement style. By doing this, I can mould the current curriculum around them, their learning style and personal needs. The curriculum for the age bracket will be followed with explicit detail, with regular assessment checks and personal target indicators. Whilst the learning environment is very relaxed, I strive to challenge every student and maximise their academic capabilities through a spectrum of mediums.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for 5 years in the primary age range and really enjoy it. I have been privately tutoring for 6 years covering both all literacy areas and maths. I have up-to-date training in the new grammar, spelling and punctuation KS2 SAT's paper. In the area of spelling, I have current experience in the synthetic phonics approach. I have used this from the beginning stages in year 1, and also adapted teaching with the support of practical materials to pupils in KS2.

Tutoring Approach:

I treat each child as an individual taking into account both parents and the pupils views and needs. I provide suport to catch up on missed areas of basic skills, which is delaying learning, as well as being able to support targets set by school for the pupils individual progress. Through an initial consultation I seek to find out what the needs are and, with parents and pupil, plan suitable help to reach their goals. I share objectives with parents and pupils and give regular feed back to both to reach those goals. I belive it is important for all to see progress is being made. With parents and pupils permission, I like to make contact with their teacher to work with class teacher in identifing areas of difficulty and planning appropriate support. I find that this approach give the maximum benefit for all concerned.
The greatest difference I make to my pupils is to increase their confidence which in turn enables them to be more willing to take part in whole class sessions at school. Teachers of at least 2 of my pupils have remarked on the difference in attitude of the pupils who I have tutored.

I believe in looking at and trying to educate the whole child. In doing this I think that one can inspire the class and improve their confidence and their desire to learn and develop. I looked carefully at the children's previous work to evaluate their current level before planning a new lesson. For each lesson I teach, I plan the lesson in detail, listing resources, support staff and their roles, ICT resources used, differentiation for different abilities, the structure and timing of the lesson, the objectives and learning outcomes expected as well as the tasks that we are going to carry out, and the teaching methods that would be most effective for the subject and the class.

I used a variety of working styles such as kinaesthetic, auditory and visual methods to increase the reach and differentiation of the teaching for all students. I use these methods to anticipate and resolve any problems and identify opportunities for extending the pupils learning. I often use the interactive whiteboard to display and interact with resources such as web pages, educational games, and visual or auditory presentations. This is a fantastic way of stimulating and allowing children to lead their learning.

I understand the importance of inclusive provision and practice. I am very interested in working with children with learning difficulties. I assess children's work with a view to assessing ways in which we could improve their understanding and presentation of work. I also tried to differentiate effectively for all the pupils through my use of questioning. I used extending questions or questions which would be aimed at different ability groups to maximise my pupil's understanding of my objectives.

I live in Crawley, West Sussex and have worked in social care since completing my BA(hons) in 2000. I have worked with many different client groups of all ages, spending the last few years in a training role. I am a foster carer to an older teenager and I am just about to start working as a lecturer at a local college.

I have worked as a learning support assistant in adult education classes and have completed the introductory to teaching qualification (PTTLS) and the PGCE. Learning needs to be fun! I strive to make sessions enjoyable, memorable and interactive because I feel that this is the best way to learn. I like to use different learning methods in my approach and will regularly carry out assessment to monitor progress. Regular progress reports on will be available to you because it is important that you know how well you (or your child) are doing and any areas that need to be focused upon.

Sessions will be individually planned and delivered so best to meet your aims and aspirations. Depending on age and ability, I think it is important that students take responsibility for their own learning and I like to set independent work to be completed at home.

I can't say what age group I prefer working with as I just love the process of facilitating the learning of others and seeing them 'get it' - the light bulb moment! I have worked in schools for the past 11 years in a number of roles. I am a trained Primary teacher with a specialism in Spanish. As well as a classroom based role, I assist the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator at the school and so I have a special interest working with young people with special educational needs and also children with English as an additional language. I am confident in supporting learners from Key Stage 1 through to GCSE in most subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to vary my approach to tutoring depending upon the needs of the tutee and their preferred learning style. I feel it is important that the learner has the opportunity to take ownership of the learning experience, though some need more guidance than others. I like to encourage learners so that they realise that they are capable of so much more than they originally thought possible. I mentor GCSE students at my school and find that young people in particular may have problems self-esteem and this hinders their learning, particularly in a group setting. Working one to one gives students that little bit of breathing space they need to work through their problems without having to feel self-conscious - then they can feel more confident and flourish when they go back into the classroom.

I am a 24 year old Primary PGCE student, with a range of experience working with children and young people. Before embarking on my current course, I worked as a teaching assistant in both primary and post-primary settings. My most recent undergraduate student also attained a First overall in her History of Art degree, achieving a high score of 78 on her dissertation project, with intensive tutorial support conducted via Skype.
