Personal Description:
I graduated from Salford University with a 2.1 honours degree in Spanish, Italian and German. During my degree, I lived in Spain, Germany and Italy working as a translator and in customer service. After graduating, I completed a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages and currently teach Spanish, French and Italian in a Secondary School. I enjoy working with my pupils and strive to make sure every child reaches their full potential.

Teaching Experience:

I have 2 years teaching experience in Secondary schools, teaching German, Spanish, French and Italian. I also have tutored adults on an individual basis in Spanish and German. At present, I visit local primary schools to teach Spanish.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe pupils learn best when they enjoy language learning, therefore I aim to make sure every lesson is fun and informative. It is important to me that pupils also learn about the culture of the country, and I feel this often makes languages learning more exciting and gives pupils a real insight into how they can use the language after school. I believe in today's age it is very important to use IT in lessons, and everyone of my lessons is prepared on power point, so pupils can use the lesson to refer back to when completing work at home. I also feel pupils learn best when they can practice language through games, and have a variety of on-line and paper games for pupils to use.

Personal Description:
I recently completed an MA course in Translation and Interpreting at Salford University in both French and Spanish. Before this I worked for 3 years in London for a tour operator then for DK travel guides which forms part of Penguin. I have travelled extensively and am used to working with people of all ages and backgrounds.

Teaching Experience:

Whilst I was an undergraduate I gave private tuition in English when I was living in France on my year abroad, teaching a 4 year old, a 30 year old and also 2 18 year olds who were preparing for their baccalaureat.

I then did an introduction to tefl course as part of my final year degree course in French and Spanish.

At the end of my undergraduate degree, I spent a month shadowing teachers at a secondary shool based near Bristol (Backwell School) where I also assisted the teachers in some lessons and conducted some of my own French classes.

Tutoring Approach:

I intend to tailor make my tutoring to fit the pupil's needs and goals. This would be ascertained in the first lesson. Then, I will set out a list of subject areas to be covered in the following weeks of lessons, spending time to prepare each lesson beforehand. I will use a variety of different media resources as lesson material along with any relevant coursebooks that the pupil might already be using.

Personal Description:
I am 25 years old, currently living in Dundee.
I have recently completed my teacher training so I am qualified teacher of German, Italian and I am just about to receive my qualification is Spanish as well.
My biggest passion is travelling.
I love the Mediterranean cuisine especially Italian food and I am a big fan of salsa dance.
I am a confident, relaxed yet responsible individual who likes coming across different cultures and people, thinking different ways and enthusiastic about teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I started tutoring pupils when I was 17 only and it soon became not only a part time job but a career perspective to me.
I have been tutoring children and adults in English and German for 8 years.
I took up Italian still in high school so when I moved to Scotland I started offering German and Italian lessons for adults and young people.
I have been involved with an EU project that focused on teaching the target language in the country where the language is spoken so I stayed in Berlin, Germany for some months.
In addition to the above I spent some time in Italy teaching English, German and Spanish in a private language academy near Padua.

Tutoring Approach:

As a qualified teacher I am fully aware of the curriculum in Scotland. I also have plenty of experience in teaching adults.
I think of learning and teaching as a journey to be taken. I see myself as a source of "fuel" on the way where my learners are provided with the necessary knowledge to move on and improve their skills.
I have always liked seeing things developing because it means that we understand more of the world we live in.

Personal Description:
My name is Jennifer and I'm from Spain. I have been learning languages since I was at school, and after at high school, university and languages schools. This fact has made me aware of the importance of learning languages and has taught me different ways of teaching and learning a foreign language.
I have a university degree in Translation and Interpreting.
Furthermore, I have the qualification to be a teacher in Spain (C.A.P). During this course I learnt several aspects of teaching a foreign language and the opportunity to teach in a high school in Spain during my period of practice.

Teaching Experience:

I had taught English as a private teacher for a year and currently, I am giving Spanish private lessons and working as a Spanish Language Assistant in two secondary schools.
My responsibilities as a Language Assistant are to help pupils with their skills and abilities in Spanish. Sometimes I work with smalls groups practising the pronunciation, speaking, listening and writing skills. I also help the pupils with their oral exams and I prepare activities with vocabulary or contents that they have learnt in the classroom with the teacher. I work in the classroom with the teacher as well and I am also in charge of prepare resources and materials such powerpoints presentations, activities, booklets etc that teachers can use in their lessons.
I have learnt a lot from the teachers; the way they teach languages and how different it is from the way that we use to teach in Spain. Because of that, I can take the best of both systems.

Tutoring Approach:

I prepare every lesson in advanced taking into account the students level and their needs. I prepare materials and resources such as powerpoints presentations, worksheets... I use my laptop in the lessons so that we can use Internet and online materials. In my lessons you can practice listening, reading, writting and speaking skills or just the ones you're most interested in. You will also learn grammar and vocabulary as well.

Personal Description:
I am 21 years old and currently studying for a BA (Hons) degree in Primary Education (with QTS) at the Manchester Metropolitan University. Prior to this I spent two years studying French and Spanish at the University of Manchester, before deciding to withdraw from my course in order to focus on my main passion, education. My desire is to gain extra experience of teaching and tutoring primary school aged children outside of my course.

I recently received a full CRB enhanced disclosure, and can provide a copy upon request.

Teaching Experience:

I have spent a number of weeks assisting in various classroom settings at a local primary school, including experience with dyslexic children, working on reading and spelling skills on a one-to-one basis, which included the use of ICT materials. I will also undergo several placements during the academic year as part of my higher education programme.

The emphasis of my experience comes not from tutoring however, rather my work with children in a different setting: I have worked as a summer camp counsellor in the US for the past three years, working with boys aged from 6 to 10 years old. Whilst this work is not of an educational manner, the professionalism and skills I have acquired from the role are similarly placed to those required of an educator. My duties have been eclectic, from the basic care and nurturing of the children, to the coaching of sports games, and even practising management and organisational skills.

Tutoring Approach:

Whilst I understand that the purpose of tutoring is to enrich the learner's knowledge and improve their ability in a given subject, I believe in taking a more relaxed and creative approach to tackling the specific problems of the individual learner. This I feel will help to boost their confidence in the subject, which will hopefully lead to better enjoyment and success in the school environment.

At the same time as using such methods and outside materials, I also feel the activities should be kept in-line with what is being taught at school, and am therefore happy to spend part or most of the time completing class or homework issued by the learner's school teacher, including any reading or spelling work that is due.

* Pricing by subject is standard across all so that individual lessons can be tailored to cover more than one subject area in the same hour. Reading & Writing Skills and English can be combined to work on a variety of basic skills, including spelling. Please make contact to discuss further any specific requirements.

Personal Description:
My name is Jessica, I'm 24 years old and live in Garforth, Leeds. I've been studying Spanish since I was 14 and have lived in Spain for the last two years. My 1st class degree is also in Spanish and I spent a year of my degree working in a Spanish secondary school. I am completely fluent in Spanish and know a lot about the culture of Spain as well as the language which I think is extremely important. My Spanish accent is of the purest Spanish as I have lived in the North of Spain. I have often been mistaken as a native Spanish person as I have a very good Spanish accent, crucial for teaching a modern foreign language.

Teaching Experience:

I've always been interested in a career in teaching. During my 3rd year of university I worked as a Language assistant in a Spanish Secondary School. Then in my 4th year I took part in the Student's Associate Scheme. I worked alongside a Spanish teacher in a Secondary School in Newcastle. After graduating I did a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) qualification and since then have been working in Spain teaching English. I am just about to start a Masters in Linguistics and English Language Teaching to improve even further.

Tutoring Approach:

Why do we learn a language? To communicate. For this reason my approach to teaching over the last couple of years has been concentrating on speaking and listening. However, to pass school exams the written side can be just as important. After carrying out a short level test and assessing each student's needs I adapt my teaching to suit each individual.

Personal Description:
I am 30 years old I have a degree in Fine Art, teach Yoga to children and adults, paint portraits and speak French fluently. Quite a mouthful when people ask "and what do YOU do?!" I believe in the importance of life experience over text books and tick boxes.

I spent 2007 traveling and working in South America and for 4 years prior to that I lived in Paris. I moved to Brighton one year ago to be closer to my boyfriend and I currently live with a friend and her two young children. I enjoy cooking, gardening (although limited to carrots, beans and potatoes in pots on the decking this year!) and I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching English to children in Ecuador and young adults in Paris. I have taught art classes (general and portraiture) to adults and children. I am also a qualified yoga teacher and currently teach kids yoga in Brighton and Falmer. I am fluent in French (studied up to AS level and then spent 4 years in Paris) I have experience tutoring French and Spanish.

Tutoring Approach:

Having spent 6 years abroad I have a thorough understanding of what it's like to have to learn a REAL language (not just ''where is the toilet please garcon?") and how speaking the local dialect helps you learn so much more about the people, their culture and way of life. I know how to encourage children to make the most of the opportunities they have at school (whilst appreciating that they would probably rather be in the park). I have had the pleasure of teaching adults both french and art (individually and in groups) and have proudly observed their achievements.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate in Medieval and Modern Languages (French and Spanish) from Oxford University, I am fluent in both languages, and I love teaching. In addition to offering tuition in French and Spanish at all levels, I also have considerable experience in teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) to foreign students. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any enquiries. I look forward to meeting you, and hopefully to teaching you!

Teaching Experience:

I spent about 6 months of my Gap Year teaching English as a Foreign Language in Argentina. I taught children (ages 11-18) in both primary and secondary schools, and adults in private education institutions, where I gave evening classes. I found the work immensely rewarding, particularly since all my pupils seemed to have a different motivation for attending classes: acquisition of key business language skills, university entrance exams, a love of literature or just a new hobby.

Just as importantly as having had one-to-one tutoring experience, is the fact that I myself have received tutoring over the years. At school, I was tutored in French because I was bored, and Maths because I was struggling. Most recently at Oxford University, I have been lucky enough to receive many hours of one-to-one tutoring from some of the best minds in the world on literary and linguistic work in both French and Spanish. This was a practice I kept up on my year abroad, where I again sought daily language tutoring to fast track my language skills and improve my fluency.

Tutoring Approach:

As I hope my record of both having given and received tutoring throughout my life shows, I am a firm believer in the benefits of tutoring as I will now explain:

Why is extra tuition helpful?

The school classroom is often a difficult place to learn in - particularly as regards Foreign Languages - it goes without saying that aptitudes and abilities range significantly. In addition, more often than not, class numbers make individual teacher-pupil attention impossible, with students increasingly encouraged to keep quiet, rather than to pipe up and make the mistakes they could learn from. This tends to lead to two types of scenario: in the first instance brighter students remain unstimulated, become bored and stop learning. In the second, struggling students are left to flounder - all too quickly jumping to the conclusion that they are not 'linguists.'

Why is having language skills so important?

The world has changed, and we are now more than ever global citizens with global problems. Inter-linguistic/cultural communication is paramount, above all in the business world. In a cut-throat employment market, you cannot afford not to develop your language skills. Many city employers (e.g. banks, law firms etc) will now not consider you as a candidate without additional language skills (applications are done online, leave the 'Additional Languages' box blank -a required field-, and the computer refuses to submit your details). Even the statistics back this up: Spanish is the Western World's fastest growing and therefore most influential language after English. Speaking from personal experience, I have been given several valuable job/life opportunities because I spoke languages my competitors did not.

What is my approach to tutoring?

My approach to tutoring is to dispel this erroneous idea that 'being a linguist' is something that can be obtained or irretrievably lost in a school classroom - it has nothing to do with it. My policy therefore is to adapt to the needs of each individual student, whether this means re-engaging a mind through different learning techniques (studying bite-size pieces of literature is a non-irksome and intellectually stimulating way of developing grammar/vocab/oral proficiency), shoring up any grammatical gaps impeding advancement, or focusing on a particular skill set e.g. oral communication, or target e.g. an examination. I am happy to help children/adults of any age and ability and I look forward to discussing your individual aims/goals.
