| Personal Description: I am currently studying M.Sc. Design Ethnography at the University of Dundee, Scotalnd. I have a Masters (Hons.) as well as a Bachelors (Hons.) degree in Anthropology. Teaching Experience: I have nearly 2 years of experience in Private Tutoring for primary school children for pocket money while I was myself a student at the University. |
Tutoring Approach: I am highly influenced by Plato's dialectical methods of teaching. I prefer to invoke thought and discussion with my students and let them learn from each other's points of view apart from meditating around what has been written in their text books. I also prefer to use etymological approach for students to understand meanings of complex words especially used in Biology. I prefer to identify students who need special attention and focus and spend extra time in grooming them and fulfilling their needs. |

| Personal Description: I have a BA in English & Sociology & an MA in Religious Studies in which I specialised in eastern philosophy and philosophy of religion. I read widely & have a genuine passion for learning & enjoyment in communicating this to others. |
Teaching Experience: I am a qualified teacher with 10 years' experience of teaching in schools & 6th form colleges. For the last 8 years I have worked as a Head of Philosophy & Religious Studies at two prestigious colleges in the north-west. I also have plentiful recent experience of one-to-one tuition in that one-to-one & small group academic support tutorials formed a significant part of my most recent position. In the course of the last two years I have delievered well over 200 hours of such tutorials. I have taught Philosophy, Religious studies, & English Literature, but my academic background & experience equip me to tutor students in the generic skills of essay writing, reading & synthesis & research skills across the range of Humanities subjects. |
Tutoring Approach: I am a creative & sensitive teacher with the ability to understand & address the specific needs of a tutee as an individual & tailor my approach accordingly. My primary concern would be to assess your particular requirements & tailor my approach accordingly, thus gaining maximum benefit from our sessions to enhance your studies. My approach is holistic & skills-based & is concerned with igniting a passion for learning by first developing the skills that allow you to enjoy your studies & enhances your life. Developing skills breeds confidence & allows learning to become a joy rather than a chore. My approach, therefore, is centred around helping you to develop as a successful student in the fullest sense, rather than developing tricks & techniques that simply disguise weaknesses & will not, therefore, lead to long term success. |

| Personal Description: Hello, I am a 23 year old from the Old Trafford/ Stretford area of Manchester. I am a recent Law graduate from Lancaster university who is fond of reading, debating and discovering new things. I would say I am quite lively, not too difficult to get on with very ambitious but also with an equal dash of a patience for I am a patient individual. Although I am admittedly not fantastic at sports I do play badminton and football from time to time I can play a range of sports but those tend to be the main two. I am a massive fan of education and self development so I tend to be never too far away from reading a book or learning something new to further myself. |
Teaching Experience: I have mainly gained a lot of my teaching experience tutoring younger siblings and assisting the junior year students either at college or University with areas which they either required extra help on or further knowledge. Although my experience does seem some what limited I am confident that the contribution which I have made to those who I have helped has been substantial in helping them to progress onwards to the next stage and beyond. As such I would hope to expand this towards any student who desires to take me on board and to progress until they are ready for the task at hand. |
Tutoring Approach: I begin my approach with an analytical conversation with the student, parent or both in order to address in person individual to assess strengths and areas where we can develop a plan of action. I will aim to take each stage step by step until both you and I are satisfied that we are confident in understanding and explaining coherently the relevant information. I will be professional but understanding as patience dictates, most importantly any work set during the session will be wholly relevant, comprehensible and creative in order to match your needs. |

| Personal Description: I am currently in my 3rd year of my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Criminology. I feel I have gained valuable knowledge and skills necessary to help other people in their study of psychology in particular. I keep up to date with relevant research and feel I would be of benefit to those who feel they need a tutor for the subject of Psychology. I am very patient and am willing to make an extra effort with tutees in my care. I am also very enthusiastic about Psychology and find it fascinating to study. |
Teaching Experience: I have no specific teaching qualifications or experience. However, I have recently been taking a module called Psychology and Education which provided useful information in beneficial teaching methods. I am confident that I would learn quickly how best to teach the subject. |
Tutoring Approach: It is important for tutees to learn at a pace that is comfortable for them. However, it is also very important to challenge tutees so that they can learn new things each time they study the subject. As a tutor I would challenge tutees not by answering their questions about the subject in detail, but by guiding them to find the correct answer themselves. This way, they would be more likely to remember what they had learnt and also how to find the answer to other questions they had in the future. |

| Personal Description: My name is Jennifer Ferguson and I am currently a student at the University of Dundee. My main degree subject is Politics but I also study History, Philosophy, Geography and European Studies. Currently in my second year I aim to become a Modern Studies Teacher within a high school. I am polite, punctual, adaptable, down-to earth, always willing and constantly aiming to put client's needs to the forefront. At present I am employed as a supervisor within retail where I manage a small group of about 12 employees at the one time. |
Teaching Experience: During my time at High School I tutored a Fourth year girl for her Standard Grade Credit Mathematics Exam. I also helped teach Modern Studies to a group of First and Second year students. At university I taught modern studies again at a local high school as part of a voluntary placement I undertook. As this is the subject I wish to eventually teach I am extremely passionate about it. At present I am also helping a small group of Polish students develop their English for university entry. |
Tutoring Approach: I have learned through my experiences that the key approach to helping someone achieve their potential is listening and adapting to specific needs. Together we will identify areas of further need and work together to ease bottlenecks of knowledge. We will create a personal portfolio together in order to track your success and celebrate your achievements. |

| Personal Description: I graduated from the University of Warwick with an Upper Second-Class Honours Degree (2.1) in History and Sociology in 2009. Currently I am finishing a Masters at the University of Nottingham, but I'm based in London working part-time for Save the Children UK. Teaching is something I thoroughly enjoy and find very rewarding; I hope to continue working in education in the future. |
Teaching Experience: I have a great deal of teaching experience with both children and adults. In the past, I have taught people for whom English is their second language, as well as native English speakers. For the past 9 months I have been tutoring GCSE Sociology and English. I have had good feedback from my tutee, and she has significantly improved her grades. I worked for the Kumon Learning Centre for one year where I tutored children between the ages of four and twelve. After working there for four months I was promoted to Senior English Assistant. In the summer of 2008 I volunteered as a foreign language teacher in South East Asia. In Vietnam I had two classes a day for which I had to prepare lesson plans. In one class I taught children between the ages of twelve and seventeen, while in an evening class I taught thirty adult learners (see picture). In Cambodia I volunteered for the Cambodian Children's Painting Project, a recognised NGO. I taught children basic reading and writing skills for five hours each day. My experience in Asia has given me great confidence in my teaching abilities with regards to both children and adults. Over the past 6 months I have been conducting some research for the Nottinghamshire Domestic Violence Forum. This enabled me to help deliver educational sessions in schools about issues of domestic violence and healthy relationships. Furthermore, I have a good grasp of the national curriculum, having worked for the examination board Edexcel. |
Tutoring Approach: I fully understand the paramount importance of education. I believe a teacher must adapt his or her skills to the particular needs of the tutee. Creating an appropriate atmosphere for learning is crucial. As an approachable, friendly person, I hope to build up my students' confidence so they are able to excel in their studies, as well as enjoy them. I want my students to enjoy learning. Depending on the age of the student and the subject being taught, games and quizzes can provide good tools for revision. As a recent post-graduate student myself, I have a fresh and up-to date approach to teaching. I will spend the necessary amount of time outside lessons to ensure each session is well planned. Having worked for two years for a university confidential listening service, I am patient and responsive. I find teaching extremely rewarding and strive to help each of my students succeed. |

| Personal Description: I am a friendly and approachable tutor with over a years experience tutoring a range of subjects. I completed a BA Hons degree in Education in 2008, and I will be training as a teacher next September. Education and teaching is a passion of mine and something I enjoy - I try to ensure that I make it an enjoyable experience for my pupils also! |
Teaching Experience: Whilst at university I completed work experience in a local special needs school, working with pupils one on one and in small groups, which was something I enjoyed very much. During this time I worked with pupils aged 7 - 11 years old. I also took part in the Students Associate Scheme and worked in a local High School as a teaching assistant with pupils aged 11 - 16. Since I left University I have been working as a Tutor at a local College, providing one to one support across a range of Btec, A-level and GCSE courses, which is something I enjoy thoroughly. |
Tutoring Approach: I think that it is important to make sessions interesting for the pupil and tailored to their individual needs and learning preferences. Sessions usually last 1 hour, apart from the first session which is up to 30 minutes. I do not charge for this initial meeting as it is more a time for me to get to know my pupil (and his/her parents where appropriate), what they want to get from our sessions and what thier current level of ability is. I try to use a variety of resources during sessions, and will sometimes set 'homework' tasks where I feel it would be beneficial. |

| Personal Description: I'm a friendly, outgoing and enthusiastic tutor, 24 years old, with a 1st-class history degree from Oxford University and an MA(hons) in Humanities & Social Science from the University of Chicago. I've been working as a teacher for almost a year now, both teaching English as a foreign language and tutoring humanities and social science subjects at various levels, and my feedback both from students, parents and other teachers has been overwhelmingly positive. I'm fully CRB-approved and looking for work in the central London area. |
Teaching Experience: TEFL Teacher, St John's Wood School of English, NW8 0RH (July 2010 - Present) TEFL Teacher, Malvern House English Academy, W1D 7EA (April 2009 - Sept 2009) Study Supervisor, Oxford International College, OX1 2EP (Jan 2008 - April 2008) Part-time Private Tutor, History, English, Economics, Sociology, etc; July 2009 - Present |
Tutoring Approach: I have a really positive, can-do attitude to teaching, based partly around my own enthusiasm for the subjects I teach and partly around the fact that I genuinely love teaching and enjoy it immensely. I believe that even the driest and most prosaic subject matter can be brought to life with a bit of energy, imagination, and humour, and even the most complicated and obtuse problems can be made digestible with careful planning and a creative approach. I try to make my lessons enjoyable and engaging; nothing inhibits learning more than boredom or apathy. |

| Personal Description: I am young, friendly, enthusiastic and experienced tutor. I have lived abroad for over 5 years so I am very open minded and value diversity. I am currently completing an Msc in Community Learning and Development and enjoying it very much. As a trained artist I enjoy making and exhibiting my work in Scotland. I am a very active person, I love snowboarding and rock climbing and I think my varied interests have stood me in good stead in my experience thus far - good analogies for teaching! |
Teaching Experience: Over four years teaching Art and English as a second language in Japan - to students aged 2 to 82! In Japan I taught in both private and group settings and trained colleagues to facilitate learning. Experience of teaching business English and preparing students to sit TOEFL, IELTS and other English Language tests. In the UK I have taught art and craft in children's classes and young people art school portfolio preparation. I have extensive experience of working with children, young people and migrants in a community setting, teaching everything from global citizenship to outdoor education. |
Tutoring Approach: As an arts graduate I am extremely creative and like to apply this to my teaching. While working in Japan I set up the community centre in which I worked and created the programme and curriculum according to the expressed needs of the students; I think this is very important - to respond to what the students wish to learn. I am patient and tolerant of mistakes and attitudes, while encouraging and hopeful about progress. I am very laid back and like to have a joke - I would like to think that my students enjoy learning with me, as I have certainly enjoyed learning with them! |
