Personal Description:
I am a second year undergraduate student at Aston University, reading English Language. I have a passion for my subject, and I love the challenge of teaching it to students across all ages and abilities.
I'm a very approachable and friendly character, who is determined to get the best out of any challenge.
My hobbies include cycling, traveling, reading, and listening to music.

Teaching Experience:

May 2007: Private tutoring for a family friend. I helped the tutee cover aspects of GCSE English Literature and Language, and helped him achieve two grades higher than the teacher's predicted grade.

Jan - March 2008: Taught English and basic maths to 4-6 year olds in the Taleem-ul-Islam High School, situated in small Indian town. I was often left with a class of 30 - 40 students. I implemented new ideas which the students found exciting and different (e.g learning through play, acting and drawing etc).

April - June 2008: I was a teacher at the ICPNA institute of English in Cusco, Peru. I had four full classes to teach and assess. I was expected to follow a month long curriculum, at the end of which the students take a test to assess whether they are ready for the next stage. The classes were mixed with both young and old students, from the ages of 14 to 40. The class sizes ranged from 17 - 22 students in one class.

Tutoring Approach:

At first I would get my students to talk me through what they are learning, and where they feel their weaknesses lie. Talking about the subject, about what they like/do not like gives me a better understanding of how to make the student feel more comfortable in their subject.

I use relevant teaching materials, such as hand outs, and books (either from libraries, internet or my own collection) to compliment what we are going through in a session.

For coursework and homework that is due to be handed into schools, I am always willing and able to proof read and correct. I am happy to help a student through coursework giving them pointers along the way (by no means doing it for them!!).

I will always encourage self study for the student to do at home although I do not normally set homework, unless the student requests, or I feel that more practice is needed.

I have had excellent testimonials from my creative writing students, who have said I always go the extra mile to help.

Personal Description:
I am a 52 year-old recently graduated mature student. Due to the difficulties of funding myself through what would have been my fourth year, I recently abandoned my studies to enter part-time work.

Teaching Experience:

I taught 'Modern Political Thought' for three consecutive years - between 2006 and 2008 - as part of my now abandoned PhD studies at Queen's University, Belfast. My classes were tutorial groups, comprised of 2nd year undergrad' students, teaching groups of between 10 and 18 students at a time. Classes were structured towards meeting specific learning outcomes so as to develop their learning and prepare them for forthcoming exams and essay assignments.

Tutoring Approach:

I endeavour to take into account the varying natural abilities and learning speeds of the individual student and try to structure my tutoring accordingly. My teaching style is based upon a mixture of set readings, discussions, questions and answers, and, were appropriate, tests to measure the progress of the student.

Personal Description:
My peers as well as casual observers would consider me to be reliable, hard working, dedicated and efficient with my work load. I am someone who is known for going that extra mile in order to achieve my objective.

Behind me I have knowledge and experience within the field of education that has allowed me over the years to build on my existing portfolio of skills, hence reinforcing an underlying desire to pursue teaching on a one to one capacity. Beyond that I am passionate in my pursuit of teaching and transferring knowledge to those seeking it.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught English at KS3 and KS4 at a secondary independent girl's school for 2 years and have 4 years worth of tutoring experience. I have worked with pupils from varying backgrounds and of differing ability groups so I'm able to understand the needs of my pupils depending on their level of educational requirement.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a very patient step by step approach to tutoring often checking to see concepts and ideas are understood at the most basic level before going into depth. I am able to tailor teaching to the preferred learning style(s) of my pupil's through a choice of visual, aural, reading/writing and kinesthetic approaches in order for effective learning to take place. I believe in achieving results through reinforcing difficult concepts and then checking for understanding through questioning.

Personal Description:
I just started my DPhil in Political Theory at the University of Oxford. I did my M.A. and B.A. in Sociology and Politics at the University of Essex. I also am a qualified German teacher by the Goethe-Institut.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked for one month in a Language school in Germany as part as my education as a qualified German teacher. I have also previously tutored German pupils in English and volunteered helping children from migrant families with their homework.

Tutoring Approach:

When teaching languages and concepts in social sciences it is very important to encourage students to converse freely in class. In this way they can develop confidence in speaking and expressing their own thoughts. However to study successfully I also think it is important to follow a structured study-plan (in particular to learn Grammar and vocabulary) and to learn some self-study skills which will finally enable the student to make progress on their own. I think that everybody learns in a different way so it is important to find out what is the best approach from person to person.

Myself and my partner Sarah work from from home offering private tuition in a range of academic and extra curricular subjects at various levels to students of all ages, as well as some careers advice.

Based on the Lisburn Road in Belfast we offer one- to- one sessions from our very own living room or will travel to our students' homes depending on their location. For those further afield we deliver online tutorials by way of messenger, Skype or a method of the student's choosing.

First sessions normally consist of a consultation to assess the needs of the student and are offered FREE of charge.
As well as this we offer a pay as you go service, allowing for one- off or irregular sessions and allowing students to see how they get on with us without having to commit to the time and expense of a full course upfront.

DISCOUNTS available for:
Returning students
Students committing to a full term upfront
Students attending more than once per wee

We are committed to making ourselves available to students and/or parents in between sessions by telephone or email to discuss progress, help with short questions about homework, assignments, revision, course material or any other queries which may arise.

In the near future we are hoping to expand to offer further subjects and more advanced levels, as well as group workshops.

As mature postgraduate and undergraduate students with a family and other work commitments we understand the trials and tribulations of learning only too well and aim to cater specifically to each of our student's individual learning styles and personalities while offering a high level of support to help them achieve their goals. We are CRB checked and all tuition is delivered by ourselves.

Personal Description:
I am just coming to the end of my first year studying LLB Law with Criminal Justice at Bangor University, North Wales. I studied English, Sociology, Psychology and Law at A Level, passing all with high grades, and got all A's and B's in 10 GCSE's as well.

Teaching Experience:

I have not had any professional teaching experience, but did do work experience over the summer working in a school, helping individuals on a one to one basis. I have been a mentor to teenagers before as well, advising on homework and coursework for high school and college level.

Tutoring Approach:

I myself used to struggle with confidence, especially when it came to believing i could do well with my work. I believe a tutor should be able to help you see that you can achieve, expecially when its clear you have the talent to do it. i have often been told i would make a good teacher, because im patient and will sit for as long as necessary to help someone if they need it. I have a very good work ethic myself, often juggling so many different things at once; during college, i was in college for 7 hours, then work for 4 hours after, and then did coursework when i got home0 every single day. in the past i have found this determination to succeed has rubbed off on tutees.

Personal Description:
I am currently in the second year of my doctorate in Film and Telvision at Glasgow University. Although my key interest is Film and Television, I am also well-versed in Philosophy, being able to teach both continental and analytic traditions owing to my previous study to honours level in the subject.

I have an enthusiastic work ethic and many non-academic interests including running, cinema-going and reading. I also have a strong passion for music production.

I'm a relaxed and confident tutor who is able to teach many levels of competence.

Teaching Experience:

I have experienced tutoring level 2 undergraduates in my Department, as well as having spoken at conferences and symposia.

The University's Disability Support scheme has also provided me with an excellent opportunity to teach students on a one to one basis and to rise to the challenge of teaching students in difficult circumstances or with special needs.

Tutoring Approach:

I don't think a singular approach works as each student has his own individual needs, however I do feel in general that detailed reading, analysis and critical thinking should be the basis for nearly all successful sessions.

My approach is both personal and professional tailored to the needs of each student but always keeping sight of the goal at hand.
