| Personal Description: I am a 52 year-old recently graduated mature student. Due to the difficulties of funding myself through what would have been my fourth year, I recently abandoned my studies to enter part-time work. |
Teaching Experience: I taught 'Modern Political Thought' for three consecutive years - between 2006 and 2008 - as part of my now abandoned PhD studies at Queen's University, Belfast. My classes were tutorial groups, comprised of 2nd year undergrad' students, teaching groups of between 10 and 18 students at a time. Classes were structured towards meeting specific learning outcomes so as to develop their learning and prepare them for forthcoming exams and essay assignments. |
Tutoring Approach: I endeavour to take into account the varying natural abilities and learning speeds of the individual student and try to structure my tutoring accordingly. My teaching style is based upon a mixture of set readings, discussions, questions and answers, and, were appropriate, tests to measure the progress of the student. |

Teaching Experience: 2003-2005 One-to-one tutoring in Beginner Computer Skills for Bryson House. 2005-2009 Approx 20 group presentations and five mini-lectures as part of my BA at Oxford Brookes University. Included two non-mandatory requested presentations. 2005-2009 Invitation to speak at several art festivals on Journalism. 2006-2009 Transcription in Lectures and facilitating one-to-one study and skills sessions. |
Tutoring Approach: Lesson plans are loaded with additional resources for student access after the lesson has ended, fostered by the enthusiasm for the construction of knowledge. I like to teach so that one might teach, that knowledge production be cyclical and generating. I like my lesson plans tight so as to deliver, while including opportunity for communicating with students to ensure an understanding has been gained that will go beyond the session. I have a kind and friendly manner and great experience as a facilitator. I am responsive to other people's experiential and learned knowledge and a hard, keen worker. Although, truth be told, my harmonica playing needs work. |

Based on the Lisburn Road in Belfast we offer one- to- one sessions from our very own living room or will travel to our students' homes depending on their location. For those further afield we deliver online tutorials by way of messenger, Skype or a method of the student's choosing. First sessions normally consist of a consultation to assess the needs of the student and are offered FREE of charge. As well as this we offer a pay as you go service, allowing for one- off or irregular sessions and allowing students to see how they get on with us without having to commit to the time and expense of a full course upfront. In the near future we are hoping to expand to offer further subjects and more advanced levels, as well as group workshops. As mature postgraduate and undergraduate students with a family and other work commitments we understand the trials and tribulations of learning only too well and aim to cater specifically to each of our student's individual learning styles and personalities while offering a high level of support to help them achieve their goals. Tutoring Approach: Sarah: "I tailor my teaching style and approach to the individual or group of individuals. I have always found it easy to relate to people of all ages and walks of life. I am a firm believer that everybody learns differently and that the standard classroom approach does not suit all students. In class situations I have been known to make use of as many different learning techniques as possible, including film, television, music, literature and contemporary media issues to enliven topics, provoke debate and help students relate their learning to everyday experience. I aim to give as much support and feedback as possible with work undertaken while encouraging independent thinking and learning at every step of the way. I believe that if learning is as interesting and enjoyable as possible that great results will follow!" |

| Personal Description: I have just graduated with a first class honours degree in education from St Mary's University Belfast, specialising in business studies, geography and learning for life and work. I also hold a degree in psychology from Queens University Belfast. I am a very understanding teacher and put the learner at the heart of the learning process. I employ active teaching strategies and produce and deliver innovative, stimulating and suitable teaching strategies. I have been trained in and utilise assessment for learning strategies. I was recently awarded a High Achievement Cup for my success in St Mary's. |
Teaching Experience: I have completed four years training at St Mary's and have been very successful in all four schools I have been placed in. I have taught key stage three and four and assisted in the teaching of A-Levels. I have also been assessed by a chief education examiner from Queens who gave me an excellent report on my teaching capabilities. I specialise in Business Studies and psychology to University level, learning for life and work up to GCSE and geography to key stage three. I also have training in special educational needs and gained the highest grade in my education dissertation on dyslexia. In 2008-2009 I worked in Assumption Grammar school teaching AS and A2 psychology. This year I was appointed a position in St Mary's CBGS where I am currently teaching AS psychology. |
Tutoring Approach: I will assess the student's level of ability generally and within the subject itself. I will then devise a scheme of work to move the student forward and help them achieve their own personal and academic goals with regular and suitable assessment. I will take a holistic approach to the pupil's development and aspire to increase their overall self-esteem and self-belief. I enjoy interacting with students of all abilities and ages and I will use the student's strengths and interests to mean learning successful, relevant and meaningful. I work work in full co-operation with the pupil and their parents and keep everyone updated. All success will be recognised and celebrated and areas of concern will be dealt with efficiently and effectively. |

| Personal Description: I work full time as a teacher of French, Spanish and Sociology. My degree is in French and Politics, and I've lived abroad for several years, in Thailand, France and Spain. Having lived away from Gloucestershire for many years, I'm now enjoying being close to my friends and family. In my spare time I enjoy reading, dancing, listening to music, and walking my dog Daisy. |
Teaching Experience: I am in my third year of teaching at a school in Gloucester; past UK teaching experience includes schools in Cirencester and Bournemouth. I've previously worked in Thailand, France and Spain as a teacher of English as a foreign language, and in Cirencester as a teaching assistant (before studying for my PGCE). I have tutored French and EFL in London. |
Tutoring Approach: I have a friendly and laidback style but with the firmness of a classroom teacher! I'll see what approach best suits the tutee and tailor my teaching to their preferences. You have the confidence of knowing that I am fully qualified and currently practising in a school, so my training in all areas of education is up to date and I am also fully aware of new developments in curricula and exam syllabi. |

| Personal Description: I have currently attained a degree in Social Sciences and Geography with The Open University and take this to be a great achievement since I have managed to achieve an upper higher class classification whilst bringing up my two children and taking hold of a household with in-laws. Furthermore since teaching has always been a passion since childhood I have also managed to carry out part-time tutoring at the same time where I have had the pleasure of assisting children with learning difficulties and those doing their GCSEs. Though I plan to continue with tutoring part-time I am now hoping to do a PGCE and become a primary school teacher. Tutoring therefore is not only a passion that I hope to pursue, but also an exciting opportunity to extend my experience and knowledge in this particular field. |
Teaching Experience: Teaching is very important to me, therefore I have tried to gain experience wherever I find possible. I have experience in tutoring English to many adults, helping them to enhance their speaking, reading and writing. However I have also worked a a primary school for six months on a voluntary basis, helping children with their numeracy and literacy skills, an experience which I thoroughly enjoyed, which additionally made me realise that I have both the passion and patience for this particular job. |
Tutoring Approach: Tutoring is a stepping stone towards my career in teaching while I also work towards completing my degree. I am very positive about tutoring as this involves not only meeting and working with many different people, but also helping others to reach their academic goals, which will be a highly rewarding experience for the students and myself. |

| Personal Description: I am currently in my 3rd year of my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Criminology. I feel I have gained valuable knowledge and skills necessary to help other people in their study of psychology in particular. I keep up to date with relevant research and feel I would be of benefit to those who feel they need a tutor for the subject of Psychology. I am very patient and am willing to make an extra effort with tutees in my care. I am also very enthusiastic about Psychology and find it fascinating to study. |
Teaching Experience: I have no specific teaching qualifications or experience. However, I have recently been taking a module called Psychology and Education which provided useful information in beneficial teaching methods. I am confident that I would learn quickly how best to teach the subject. |
Tutoring Approach: It is important for tutees to learn at a pace that is comfortable for them. However, it is also very important to challenge tutees so that they can learn new things each time they study the subject. As a tutor I would challenge tutees not by answering their questions about the subject in detail, but by guiding them to find the correct answer themselves. This way, they would be more likely to remember what they had learnt and also how to find the answer to other questions they had in the future. |

| Personal Description: I currently work in the legal profession and have completed the professional qualification to be a barrister in the UK. I am 23 years old and was born and bred in the Midlands before settling in Cardiff 5 years ago! I am approachable and am happy to answer any queries or questions before being booked by a tutee. I am as keen to provide revision sessions and assistance as I am with normal tutoring sessions. I am also open to "group" revision at discounted rates for groups between 2 - 5 students. |
Teaching Experience: I have been a private tutor to GCSE students for over 2 years mainly in Maths and English. In addition to private tutoring, I have ran many revision workshops at Undergraduate level and have assisted with teaching / training in my employed role. I have a proven track record for assisting students beat their grades in re-sits. |
Tutoring Approach: I am a personal, adaptive, flexible, patient and motivated tutor who will let you dictate how you learn and how you spend tutoring or revision time. My approach very much depends on the demands and requirements of the student in question. Some students like a "lecture style" where topics are just recovered that have been taught already by their formal education provider, some like "brainstorming sessions" and some like "practice practice practice". I can adapt to you - so let me know what you are after! Here is a summary of the subjects I cover: Maths Whether its trigonometry, pythagoras, percentages, long multiplication, histograms, tavel/time graphs, shapes or number that give you headaches - I am confident and have proven results that I can improve your confidence and grades! Sociology I am happy to focus on topic knowledge or exam technique. I can improve your knowledge and reinforce the information you have been taught on theories (functionalism, Marxism, Feminism). Particular strengths lie in tuition of exam technique and essay structure, Sociology of the Family, Crime and Deviance and Education. Geography I can cover aspects of both urban and physical geography from population and shanty towns to rivers and ecosystems. I am happy to use my own materials of diagrams, summaries and other revision tools to assist students. Law I am confident in providing tuition covering all levels of law from GCSE up to Undergraduate level I am happy to re-teach topics, I am confident that I can pick out a students strengths and weaknesses and I am happy to let the student dictate what topics need covering. I have many resources including AQA A Level Law text book, past papers in a number of subjects, Undergraduate level text books and revision brainstorms etc |

| Personal Description: I am a qualified TEFL teacher with a degree and interest in sociology and Chinese language, culture and society. My main hobby is learning Mandarin; I have been studying for 3 years. I graduated last year with a BA (Hons) degree in Sociology. My main areas of interest in sociology include cultural identity and modernisation and my dissertation was on Chinese students' influence on British people's perception of China. I consider myself to be a friendly, patient teacher and my lessons include student participation. |
Teaching Experience: I have completed a CELTA course, thus I am a qualified TEFL teacher. I have taught English at various language schools in Cambridge and I also have previous experience of teaching English on a one-to-one basis, as well as small groups, working for the Cambridge Refugee Support Group. I have also been a teaching assistant for the Cambridge Chinese School. |
Tutoring Approach: For TEFL: Following consideration of a student's individual needs, I would design a unique course outline with the guidance of the student. In my teaching I focus on student involvement and participation, rather than lecturing and I aim to cover all areas of English language; including pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary and so on. My role as a teacher includes helping my students to become independent English speakers. Sociology: I can help students to identify themes in sociology and develop independent, critical thinking. In addition, I can aid students who are considering applying for a university course in sociology. |

| Personal Description: I am currently studying politics and psychology at university degree level. However i have achieved an A at higher and/or first year university level for art, modern studies, politics, sociology, and psychology, and can teach children / adolescents up to the first year university level. I am an easy-going, highly organised patient individual, and I enjoy the challenge of teaching students how to understand, and enjoy certain subjects! |
Teaching Experience: I have teaching experience with small groups of primary aged children, mainly at reading and language skills. However, I do volunteer at a local youth club where I interact with around thirty 10-17 year old children on a weekly basis. During these sessions I receive many academic and real life problems/situations that I help solve. I also participate with study groups at university, where I work as a team to tackle problems relating to coursework! |
Tutoring Approach: My first lesson will be free of charge. In this time I will talk with the parent (of children at school level) and pupil, discussing problematic areas of coursework. Parents or pupils will then let me know how many lessons they are looking for, what they want to achieve etc. I will then make up a mock timetable, marking out what I want to achieve in each lesson. My lessons will depend on each subject. My lesson will roughly follow as (dependent on subject); 1. I will give student back mark from 'test', and we will discuss, work out wrongly done questions. 2. I will give explanation of problem area, with real life simple examples, and examples from textbooks. 3. Students can ask me any questions. 4. Students will do small test on what has been taught. This will illustrate to me whether the student has grasped what I have taught them, and allow me to mark it for our next section, beginning our next section on what they have got wrong. Students will also receive photocopies of relevant book chapters / exam papers / study tips etc. Each session will last for an hour, and will be priced at 10ph. |

| Personal Description: I am currently working as a junior doctor having qualified in Medicine with Distinction from King's College and also received a BSc in Psychology with First Class Honours from the same institution. I have a distinguished educational history, including winning prestigious prizes such as the British Pharmacological Society's Medical Student Prize. These attainments have come not from innate intelligence (though I do have a fair bit of that), but from a solid understanding of what is required to perform well in exams as well as positive mental training. I enjoy film, photography, theatre, reading, writing, and travelling. |
Teaching Experience: I have a number of years' experience providing private tuition with all students meeting or surpassing their expectations. I am familiar with the OCR, AQA-A, AQA-B and WJEC specifications for Psychology A-level, and OCR and AQA Sociology specification. In addition, I hold Visiting Appointments as a Research Fellow at King's College London (Institute of Psychiatry) and Lecturer at Deakin University, Australia teaching psychological medicine and have been involved in designing and teaching undergraduate courses in the Sociology of Health and Illness. I have published and presented work at national and international conferences on my innovations in teaching. |
Tutoring Approach: In my experience the main problems that students have is not their level of knowledge, but their exam technique, writing skills, critical thinking/analytic skills, and conceptual understanding. Students also have difficulty discerning what information they and do and do not need to know. So my focus is on challenging my students to develop their skills and exam technique, and to familiarise them with their specifications and assessment objectives. I also offer positive mental training (used by top athletes) to help improve performance. The mental preparing for exams is not that dissimilar to preparing for an olympic sport! Motivation and willingness to engage in private tuition are keys to success I cannot instill. For this reason I require the student, and not (just) the parent/guardian to contact me. A good fit between the tutor and tutee is also important. Even the best tutor in the world will not get very far with a student if they don't 'click'. That is why I assess whether the relationship is workable before committing to it. Different students have different learning styles and interests. I identify these and tailor my teaching style to the individual student. I have experience with working with students with learning difficulties, physical and mental illnesses, or current social/family adversity. |

| Personal Description: Hello, I am a 23 year old from the Old Trafford/ Stretford area of Manchester. I am a recent Law graduate from Lancaster university who is fond of reading, debating and discovering new things. I would say I am quite lively, not too difficult to get on with very ambitious but also with an equal dash of a patience for I am a patient individual. Although I am admittedly not fantastic at sports I do play badminton and football from time to time I can play a range of sports but those tend to be the main two. I am a massive fan of education and self development so I tend to be never too far away from reading a book or learning something new to further myself. |
Teaching Experience: I have mainly gained a lot of my teaching experience tutoring younger siblings and assisting the junior year students either at college or University with areas which they either required extra help on or further knowledge. Although my experience does seem some what limited I am confident that the contribution which I have made to those who I have helped has been substantial in helping them to progress onwards to the next stage and beyond. As such I would hope to expand this towards any student who desires to take me on board and to progress until they are ready for the task at hand. |
Tutoring Approach: I begin my approach with an analytical conversation with the student, parent or both in order to address in person individual to assess strengths and areas where we can develop a plan of action. I will aim to take each stage step by step until both you and I are satisfied that we are confident in understanding and explaining coherently the relevant information. I will be professional but understanding as patience dictates, most importantly any work set during the session will be wholly relevant, comprehensible and creative in order to match your needs. |
