Personal Description:
I am a student at the University of Leeds studying English and Russian in my third year of a four-year course. I am therefore based in Leeds in university term time and in London during university holidays. I am keen to teach because of my previous postitive experience of tutoring, and because I enjoy passing knowledge on to both children and adults and seeing progression and improvement in subjects over time.

Teaching Experience:
During my Year Abroad in Russia I taught a 9 year old Russian girl English for three hours a week over the year. I have also run Russian language lessons for small groups of adult and child beginners and assisted with Russian speaking classes at my school with AS Level students. I have also been able to teach many children, in groups and individually, to ice skate through several jobs as an ice rink steward.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe that a tutor has a responsibility to tailor their teaching to the needs of each individual tutee, so my approach to tutoring would vary depending on what was required. I see the relationship between a tutor and tutee as very much give and take - both are required to contribute a high standard to a lesson. I enjoy teaching and being able to give and hone skills in others, as well as often being able to learn from the tutee themselves.

I was born in Russia and lived in Israel for 10 years, where I completed my Primary and Secondary education. I completed an A-level in Maths and an As-level in Hebrew in the UK.

Before I charge any student I will conduct an assessment of your needs and type of lessons you want to have. Then a plan will be suggested and details of charges and times will be agreed. My approach to tutoring is that consistency is key. A student and tutor must stick to a program of development and a routine of lessons in order for their to be successful improvement. Motivation is another key aspect and the tutors role includes motivating her student.

Personal Description:
I like to get to know my students so I can judge their learning style and what they need the language for. The first meeting is used as a 'diagnostic' lesson where I can judge strengths and weaknesses as well as gauging the student's level and skill.

Teaching Experience:
While following post-graduate studies I taught at UCLA in California for several years, and laterally at the University of Dundee until I retired in 2007. I also taught for the British Army in Berlin from 1990 until 1994 when they left the city. I have extensive experience teaching adults on a one-to-one basis and continue to teach because it is very rewarding to see people enjoy learning the languages I can help them with.

Tutoring Approach:
The student's needs are paramount and are absolutely central to the learning experience. It is also very important to me that the student is relaxed and enjoying learning and using the language. I am happy to use distance learning methods, including skype and other instant messaging systems, with or without video links, either to supplement live lessons or as a substitute to meeting personally.

I am a student of York University ( currently on my second year) , doing a BA degree in Languages ( French and English) and Linguistics. My home country is Latvia. However, I am of Russian origin, hence my mother tongue being Russian.

I am a native Russian speaker with almost 6 years experience in teaching Russian as a foreign language in Russia(in University of Voronezh, Russia, 4 years) and here in the UK(in the Russian Language Centre, 3years).
