| Personal Description: I am an English graduate of the University of Wolverhampton, where I achieved a BA (Hons) 2:i. I also studied for my teacher training at Wolverhampton, focussing on English and maths. In my spare time I am a writer, and I am currently working on several pieces of work ready for publication. I also intend to become a part time PhD student in September, researching the impact of dialect and accent. |
Teaching Experience: I qualified as a teacher in 2009. I worked at Sutton Coldfield College for a year in the Basic Skills department, working with both 16-19 year olds, and also adult students. My work varied from teaching large groups to one on one support. When my training was complete, I began working for myself, teaching all ages and ability, as a personal tutor. I have worked with over thirty children both in my own and their homes. I also worked for OCR as an examiner from 2007-2009 |
Tutoring Approach: I offer a student centred approach to tutoring. I complete a diagnostic assessment at the start of any course of tutoring, and then produce an Individual Learning Plan in order to best tutor the pupil. I am friendly and approachable, and ensure that students find my sessions challenging but interesting. I maintain online contact with my students at all times, and make them aware that if they ever have any problems with or questions about the work that I set, they are free to contact me. I am a firm believer that if a student finds a subject enjoyable, then they are more successful. |

| Personal Description: I have an BSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics as well as an MA in War Studies from Kings College London. Alongside studying, I am a full-time fencer, and represent the UK in foil at the highest international level. I also work as a krav maga instructor and am registered with the British Combat Association. I enjoy playing jazz piano on the side. |
Teaching Experience: I worked for a year at the Vienna International School teaching jazz piano and ensemble to students of various ages. I worked in Warsaw, Poland as an English teacher with 'Testing and Foreign Language Services'. I have coached fencing and teach self defense classes in Commando Krav Maga. |
Tutoring Approach: I dont believe there is a one-size-fits-all approach to tutoring. Everyone is different, and different people need different approaches to make the most out of their learning experience. The key is to find the right approach for each person. |

| Personal Description: A recent graduate in English Language and Literature, I love books but I love working with people too, which makes teaching very enjoyable for me! As a young child I struggled to learn to read at school and it took extra-curricular support for me to catch up with my peers. In terms of academic success I've never looked back since then, but I can really relate to the frustration that many students feel when they know they aren't achieving their full potential. Currently I work full-time as a Youth Projects Manager and am saving up to do an MA in English Literature and Creative Writing. Apart from reading and writing I enjoy cooking, cycling and drawing. I have lived abroad in several countries and enjoy learning languages; I speak intermediate French, Italian and Hebrew. |
Teaching Experience: I already tutor privately, mainly for English GCSE, and I have previously taught or assisted in the teaching of a Jewish Studies GCSE course for five years. Until recently my job as as a youth worker also entailed devising and teaching weekly courses in youth leadership for teenagers, and I have delivered these to over 40 youths over the past year. I worked as a paid English teacher on an Italian school's summer camp in Umbria two years ago, and I have also worked as a full-time teaching assistant at a secondary school in the borough of Haringey. On a voluntary basis I have taught English Language overseas to both adults and children for three months. In terms of University-level students, my proofreading and editing skills are excellent and whilst an undergraduate I worked part-time as a proofreader at a large company that designed learning programs. |
Tutoring Approach: Tutoring Approach: Friendly and creative, I am passionate about English and skilled at making the study of literature and language both accessible and fun. I am particularly strong on exam techniques and preparation, and believe that many English students could achieve better at exam level if given the correct skills and structure for their knowledge. A typical course of lessons with me would involve looking through your work to see what could be improved, talking to you about your interests and learning style, and then designing a program of study for the next few months that would really tackle your problem spots, from creating mind-maps or discussing a text all the way through to memorising flashcards and writing practise essays in the run-up to an exam. For assistance in improving your general level of English I can provide games and exercises that develop vocabulary, grammar and spelling |

| Personal Description: I am a friendly and cheerful individual who has just finished studying the LPC at the College of Law in Moorgate. In 2008, I graduated from the University of St.Andrews with a 2:1 in Ancient History. Whilst it was my intention to pursue a career in law , I have decided to redirect my career towards teaching which I consider to be a more rewarding career. It is my intention to apply for the 2011 PGCE course this autumn. I would therefore like to use the opportunity of becoming a tutor to gain more experience and help students. Learning should not be dull, and I would strive to tutor in a clear but positive way. |
Teaching Experience: This would be my first tutoring role but having been a student for the last six years both at undergraduate and postgraduate level, I have developed excellent communication and presentation skills. From my law studies, I have been taught to tailor communication to suit a client. This skill would be directly transferrable to teaching. My experience as a student would also help me to relate to students and create a supportive learning environment. As an approachable person, I would like students to be at ease and ask any questions they may have. Whilst at university, I helped coach younger players in the University Ladies' Cricket Club and was a university ambassador. Both these roles gave me some experience in encouraging others to succeed and overcome weaknesses. |
Tutoring Approach: Whilst I have not tutored before, I have had considerable experience helping individuals from past law work experience at city law firms, and have fresh insight as to what it is like being a student .I would be free to help an individual with tuition starting from the middle of September . Whilst at St Andrews University , I did modules in History of Art, Philosophy, Ethics and Philosophy of Religion so would be comfortable teaching up until first year of university in these subjects. Having studied Ancient History , I would also be willing to assist with classical studies whether it be on the works of Homer or Petronious . In addition to this, at A-level I studied modern, medieval and georgian history. For English, I would be happy to help with English literature. I averaged 73% at St.Andrews University where I completed two semesters of English literature. Whether a student needs a boost before a forthcoming examination or help on a particular topic, I would do my upmost to ensure that the student is reassured. I could also offer tutoring for those doing A-level law. |

| Personal Description: Currently, I am a second year Law student at University in Newcastle. I believe that being a student myself I have an enhanced ability to communicate with other students and this in turn is advantageous for the tutee as it builds a better working relationship. I would describe myself as being polite, approachable and friendly whilst also maintaining the correct work balance. I am available to tutor online anytime. For home visits I can be in the Derbyshire or Newcastle area more or less anytime. |
Teaching Experience: As I am a student I have had no direct tutoring experience, what I do possess is the knowledge of the subject areas, assessment criteria and what examiners look for when marking exam scripts. This knowledge is very fresh in my mind having completed my A levels only two years ago and some of the vital skills I learnt throughout my schooling I still use on a daily basis. With regards to the Law I have covered every subject which appears on the A level syllabus already in my degree. I believe through my achievement at university in these areas I am very well equipped to provide tuition on these subjects. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that all too often students do not achieve their full potential through mainstream schooling. Students can get left behind if they don't understand things and are afraid to speak up and sometimes teachers overlook the finer points of some areas which can leave students confused. With having been through the school system not too long ago myself I know that this happens all too often. Tutoring can fill the gaps that school leaves and help students further their knowledge so that they do achieve their potential. In tutoring students my approach would be to break down the subjects into separate areas and concentrate on those areas one by one and highlight any weak points in the students knowledge to ensure that these were focused on. Furthermore, this could be further strengthened with the use of past examination papers or past examination questions on any problem areas. I think that homework should only be set if it is necessary, if the student has shown a clear and solid understanding of the subject then it may not always be required. |

| Personal Description: I am a confident and happy individual who enjoys watching young minds develop from confusion into clarity as they begin to grasp concepts that previously alluded them. I work as a freelance Communication Support Worker within the educational system and therefore can be flexible with my time. I have had a lot of success with pupils so far, raising grades from Ds to Bs and the occasional A. Obviously this depends on the student's abilities and their desire to learn. I believe that encouraging enjoyment in learning can be beneficial for the whole of the academic mind of the student and can help them learn faster and with more ease. I am particularly passionate about English and correcting spellings and punctuation may seem pedantic but it seeps through the rest of their education and adult career and therefore, in my opinion, is worth spending the time on. |
Teaching Experience: I have been tutoring for over a year with great success for my students in both their attitude towards learning and in their formal exams. My degree gave me experiences in working in a multitude of ways when teaching and therefore, in my tutoring, I can adapt my methods to best suit each student on an individual basis. I work as a Communication Support Worker and often help deaf and hard of hearing students to understand written and spoken English. I am experienced in teaching mainstream, SEN, and deaf students. |
Tutoring Approach: I focus on the student's abilities and use their strengths to help them learn. I create worksheets, activities and set homework. I aim to raise the bar of learning for the whole subject/s required and not just focus on the one concept the student is struggling with, although, obviously, this is also achieved. My aim is to leave the student with the ability to help themselves when they get stuck and to give them a passion for learning that will continue and spread throughout their whole educational life. |

| Personal Description: I am a fully qualified English teacher who has had to retire from full time classroom teaching due to ill health and disability. I am an extremely competent and professional teacher, and would like to continue with my vocation, teaching, to the best of my ability. To this extent I would like to offer my skills as a tutor for students up to, and including, A'Level. My students have achieved excellent results and I have also proved to be very talented at raising students results from those predicted to 1 to 3 levels higher. I have experience of working with students at all levels, from those who may struggle with the subject to those who need an extra challenge that they may feel they are not getting in the classroom. I am also experienced at teaching students with special educational needs, including Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, Cerebal Palsy, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalcula, Deafness and visibility impairment, SPLD and many others. |
Teaching Experience: I have been an English Teacher for 3 years (4 including my training year). I was also a school ambassador and mentor during my degree and tutored to GCSE level while studying for my A'Levels. Over the course of the previous year I have tutored a variety of young people with a good deal of success: an A2 Level student achieved an A grade in English Literature, which guaranteed her place in her chosen university; a GCSE student who was predicted C grades achieved an A in English Literature and a B in English which has enabled her to continue her studies in 6th Form; also a Year 10 student has improved his coursework grade from a predicted C/D grade to an A/B grade. I am obviously very proud of my students results and feel they offer evidence of my skills as a tutor. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is two fold. I feel it is very important for my students to be relaxed and enjoy the tuition they receive in order for them to retain the information they are learning and be able to use it in the future. On the other hand it is impotant to work very quickly and intensively when tutoring as the sessions pass very quickly and it is also important to cover a great deal of information in a short period of time. Therefore my tutoring sessions are relaxed yet intensive, fun whilst exhaustive. |
