Personal Description:
I work full time in a purchase ledger department in Oxford; unfortunately the job doesn't give me much satisfaction. However, I have a real passion for teaching and I used to fund a portion of my University costs by teaching English as a foreign language within my local community. I would love to get back to it.

Teaching Experience:
I've worked over 5 years as a private tutor. Predominantly I taught English as a foreign language, but also maths and Polish. I've worked with students of all ages; children, teenagers and adults. All my classes were tailored to the individual needs of my students. I was able to be very flexible, especially with students who needed extra help with school subjects. On many occasions I helped them with other subjects which were not part of the original agreement.

Tutoring Approach:
When I take on a new student I always try to find out what their needs are. Then we work together to choose the best base for our lessons (school student books, additional literature, selection of printed materials etc). Tutorials give this unique opportunity when we can adjust the pace to individual needs. With easier topics we can go though them quite quickly, not being held back by anybody, while with difficult subjects we can always allow extra time for explanation and exercises. I believe that diversity of teaching methods is essential not only because each student has different preferences but also because it's a very useful way to keep them interested in the subject.

I am a native Polish. I studied Physics and Astronomy at University of Wroclaw, Poland - speciality: physic teacher. During my studies I worked as a journalist for student's monthly mag and I was writing IT related articles for another title. I came to Scotland over two years ago. At the start I was driving lorries, but due to the demand for polish I becomed a polish tutor in my spare time. Teaching Experience:
In Poland I had a work placements as a physics teacher in secondary school. I was also tutoring in various range of subjects: from physics and math through the engineering mechanics to Polish and guitar playing. After I came to Scotland people around me started to ask for a Polish lessons. I agreed to try and I found it really interesting, so I decided to go for that more seriously - I did some reading, bought books and contacted other teachers for advice. I am also doing some translations from time to time - from school and law documents to some specialized texts related to transport industry.

Tutoring Approach:
I find language tutoring really fascinating - I think it's not only about language but it's about way of thinking. I am studying French, where I learn things new for me, and Czech, where I have opportunity to observe what difficulties are encountered by English speakers when learning a Slavic language, and I find both experienced useful when working with my own students. As I was working for years as a journalist, I have more practical then philological approach to language. I am using few books as a base to work with my students (from some basic courses through classic university textbooks by prof. Miodunka to modern well recognized coursebook "Hurra!") but I tend to use also every-day language by working with the newspapers, books or even some movies. My goal is to teach not only the plain language but all cultural aspects which are going with it.

Teaching Experience:
I began teaching English to secondary school pupils at the age of 21. Then I started working at a language school where I used to teach English to adults and children age 4-7, while still tutoring students age 16-19.
In 2005 I was awarded a 3-year PhD scholarship in the UK. It included teaching Polish at the University of Surrey, which I have been doing up till now. I teach Polish to students of various nationalities and ages.

Tutoring Approach:
I have always been a very patient teacher with a head full of ideas. I try to recognise the strongest sides to the students I teach. Each of us has a strong "channel" through which we learn. Some of us prefer writing tasks more than listening exercises. Some prefer visuals and others will be happy to learn a list of vocabulary items by heart. I try to get to know my students and work according to their learning nature.
My tutoring is always full of fun and discovering new areas, but also setting goals and trying to reach them.

Tutoring is basically focusing on the gaps in the knowledge of particular subject or its weaker points. It gives the student the opportunity to improve their knowledge or skills precisely and at their own speed.
