Personal Description:
I completed an Msci Chemistry course at Imperial College London gaining a first class honors degree. I have also done a year of teacher training and gained a Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) working in two schools along the way. I also did Physics and Maths as my ancillary subject. I am well organised and able to manage time effectively. My hobbies and interest includes shotokan karate which I have done for the past nine years and also football. I attended secondary school as a boarder in Reading School, where I did my GCSEs (8A*s,4As) and A-levels in maths, further maths, chemistry and history (4As). I am used to working with children as I have worked as a Kumon assistant. Kumon is a programme for children where they do worksheets for maths and English to improve their speed, accuracy and discipline.

Teaching Experience:

PGCE and QTS teacher training year, taught in two schools in London.

I have been a tutor for 4 years. In this time i have tutored numerous students from the age of 8 up to 18. I have taught maths in particular to years 5-11 recently. In all cases I have improved their exam performances and been thanked by the parents.

I have worked in a primary school as a volunteer running a morning maths class every Tuesday during my A-levels. This helped me learn a lot on how to convey my message to children so they understand how to solve the problem using their own intuition.

Furthermore I have worked with children in the Bloomsbury Kumon centre for the past few years which has been beneficial in many ways. I have learnt how children can progress over time and what is required to help them. At school I have tutored younger children in maths and helped them with their GCSE and A-levels as a mentor.

I have also worked as a teacher assistant in Camden School for Girls and helped in class across all the year groups.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in going through problems with the children first and showing a clear example, then allowing them to practice until they understand and can do the problems on their own. Furthermore I sometimes guide them in the right direction without actually telling the answer so the child is able to figure it out for themselves. I would follow the syllabus provided and teach every topic in suitable order. Then I had work through past papers and leave them papers and homework on each topic to practice. I would try to create a spark and make the pupils interested in the subject so that they can pursue their further studies with more enthusiasm.

Personal Description:
Although I now have a PGCE in mathematics I have been lucky enough to get the chance to apply my skills in maths and physics whilst working as an engineer in the automotive and white goods industries. It gave me the opportunity to travel abroad and to get involved with companies such as Dyson, Jaguar, Austin Martin and then even allowed me to watch rockets being built in Russia.
I trained engineers and factory workers in the use of mathematical and physics based subjects. Some of those I taught had jobs which involved predominantly manual skills and so they were a little rusty when applying mathematical techniques. This makes me appreciate the nervousness some adults have when presented with a subject they may not have touched since leaving school.
After leaving the engineering world I had a brief spell working as a trainer in the insurance arena and then finally ended up teaching mathematics in secondary schools.

Teaching Experience:

I worked as a manufacturing engineer for 8 years and then I taught engineers and factory workers for 10 years in the use of techniques involving mathematics and physics. After leaving the engineering world I trained adults to use a mainframe software program and then I went on to become a secondary school mathematics teacher. Finally I started tutoring from home working with various types of pupils. Some pupils have special needs, whilst others are working towards an A grade in their A levels.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to know why the tutee wishes to study. It may be to improve their confidence or to pass an exam. This will then shape the nature of the tutoring sessions. My focus is to provide people with the knowledge that is most useful to them and their aspirations.

Personal Description:
Hello,

My name is Ernie. I am currently studying for an MEng degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering at Loughborough University. I am now in my third year of the course, having spent the past 15 months on placement at a class leading automotive manufacturer developing software and hardware driving simulator solutions.

As a result of my studies and industrial experience, I have become proficient in advanced electronics and ICT skills as well as having excellent team building and interpersonal skills.

I feel that I would be particularly well suited to any GCSE or A Level students who may be looking to undertake a degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Science, as I have experience in the admissions process and can assist with personal statement and CV writing specifically for these areas.

I can tutor in the Loughborough area, within 3miles of the town centre. I can travel further afield but these sessions would be subject to a small travel expense.

Teaching Experience:

2006-2008: Assisted in Years 9-11 classes, helping students in a range of subjects including Science, Mathematics, French and ICT.

2005-2008: Ran lectures for small groups of Air Training Corps cadets in a range of subjects resulting in a series of examinations which lead to a BTEC in General Aviation Studies.

2010-2011: Ran training seminars whilst on placement relating to the usage of driving simulator capabilities.

2012 - Produced and taught a one day intermediate training course on the Python programming language for colleagues.

2013-2014 - STEM Ambassador

2013-2014 - Produced and taught a number of courses for colleagues ranging from a 1hr session on AGILE development to a 2 day introduction to software engineering.

Tutoring Approach:

I enjoy helping others learn, and particularly enjoy taking a practical approach when teaching technical subjects. As a result, the tutoring sessions will hopefully be a bit different from traditional ones, and therefore may allow the student to take in the lessons more readily.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified secondary school teacher and mother of 4 children living in Caldicot. I am able to teach both Physics and Mathematics up to GCSE and A Level Physics.

Teaching Experience:

I began teaching in 2001, qualified as a Science teacher who specialises in Physics. I have been successful in raising standards of attainment in both the key stage 3 and GCSE classes I have taught. As a tutor, I have successfully supported many pupils, with all previous tutees having achieved their expected grade or better, for both Science and Mathematics disciplines. I have also tutored primary school pupils and an adult returning to GCSE studies.
I have experience of teaching most specifications including AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC Maths and Science.

I have several years experience being contracted to mark exam papers for a major examination board and was later promoted to team leader, overseeing the exam marking for a number of examiners. This has provided me with a high level of expertise of the examination system and the demands of candidates, something that I am able to use effectively as a tutor. I have gained a great deal of experience of teaching pupils with SEN.

Tutoring Approach:

I set realistic targets for the students I tutor and am wholly committed to their success. I provide all resources including worksheets, text books, exercise books. I have an excellent relationship with students and have been asked to continue tutoring on to A Level for some students. I look to identify students weaknesses and focus on developing those areas, along with coaching on how to perform well in examinations.

Lessons take place at my home Monday to Thursday from 6pm. Weekend lessons available (please contact for availability and prices).
I am able to travel to the students home (Caldicot and surrounding areas). Additional charges apply for travel expenses.

Personal Description:
I am a Postgraduate Engineer from one of the most prestigious Technological University in Asia and have more than 5 years of Experience working and training in two of the Bulge Bracket multinational Investment Banks.

Right since my primary education days, I have been passionate about solving mathematical problems and brain teasers. In fact, is is my favorite pastime even now.

I got a medal for scoring 100% marks in National Mathematics Olympiad Contest at the High School Level.

For this reason, to continue my passion, I chose to graduate in a numerate discipline like Engineering and further joined Investment Banks where I was involved in extensive mathematical modelling of the financial markets.

I believe getting down to the level of the student and imagine myself when I began learning those concepts. This motivates me to lay the concepts before the student in a succinct manner which they can readily absorb.

Teaching Experience:

I began teaching during my graduation on a part time basis in 2000 teaching Physics and Mathematics to A Level Students.

Thereafter, when I joined my Post-Graduate Studies, I was offered a post of a teaching assistant by my professor in the University to teach Engineering Mechanics and Mathematics to students.

Last but not the least, I have also taught at an Institute providing coaching for CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) over the weekends.

Tutoring Approach:

I am pretty confident about my teaching approach as I provide the initial half an hour session as a Demo free of cost. In case you wish to continue further, only then you need to pay for it.

As I have already mentioned, I adapt my teaching style as per the competence and intellectual prowess of the candidate.

I believe that nothing is difficult to understand provided sufficient time and opportunity to practice is given to the student to master the concept.

That's the reason it is important to pace according to the rate at which a student can comfortably absorb.

Also, progressive levels of difficulty in concepts should be delivered in a structured manner. This will ensure the development of a basic methodology to break the problem into small bits and tackle it individually.

Personal Description:
I have graduated with a first class degree in engineering from Oxford University. Throughout the course, I undertook a wide range of topics from maths and electronics to biomedical and aero-thermal engineering. Subsequently, I joined 'Entrepreneur First' - a government-backed programme to help exceptional graduates start businesses. I co-founded 'SpeakSet' - a business to help combat loneliness and isolation in old age. My strong grounding in maths and the sciences not only drives me to tutoring part time but genuinely excites me!
I am passionate about music and have played guitar, bass and sung in 4 bands at university. I enjoy recording, mixing and mastering and have been doing so for eight years. I have captained my college squash team and enjoy cricket. I have a keen interest in cars and have spent a summer working in 'McLaren Automotive' as a vehicle dynamics engineer.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring through UK Tutors since summer 2012. I have plenty of experience in and regularly teach GCSE and A-Level Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Additionally, I have experience tutoring peers at university and relatives in Maths/Physics/Chemistry/Biology.

Tutoring Approach:

The best way to grasp a topic or concept is to break it down into its smallest components and gain a real understanding of the basics. In this way, it becomes easier to build up to the more complicated topics. This solid foundation doesn't just help with the problems at hand but helps to prepare for the long term too.
Exam technique is also crucial and so, we will spend time concentrating on how to approach papers.
I am always well prepared for lessons and feel that I make difficult topics stimulating and interesting.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught all sciences to GCSE and physics upto A-level. I am a physics specialist. I've also taught maths and link this to science and other applications wherever possible.

Tutoring Approach:

My philosophy is to make a subject relevant to the students and provide them with examples of the concepts being used in everyday life. My methods are to introduce a subject and assess existing knowledge through questioning and having the student demonstrate their knowledge and then building on this to deepen understanding. In this way I aim to increase the skills and knowledge of the students and improve their performance and enjoyment of the subject.

Personal Description:
I am currently a 2nd year undergraduate studying Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Imperial College London. I was selected to attend the Google Top Black Talent Programme, recognising the best talents in the UK at the moment. I am a very sociable and creative person, which is why I currently hold the position of Creative Director of the Afro-Caribbean society at Imperial, one of Imperial's largest cultural societies.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught computer literacy to individuals from disadvantaged communities in South Africa.

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching is simple. Kids will never learn unless they want to. I intend to present my teaching in a way that is creative and interesting to the student, so as to make the best of each session. The best teachers do not just teach. They engage. It is paramount you are able to capture the interest of your student, something I am more than capable of.

Personal Description:
I finished my PhD a year ago at the Audiolab, Electronics Department of the University of York, and have been working as a Research Associate since then. I have an MEng in Physics Engineering from UCL and ULg (Belgium). I speak French, English, Spanish and can find my way out in German and Dutch.

Teaching Experience:

Between my MEng and my PhD, I worked both as a Physics teacher in a private school for A level, as well as giving private Math/Physics tuition at home to University students in Medicine, Engineering, Economics, Architecture, etc. I have had about a hundred students in private tuition (one to one) during 5 years, and about 200 students in the private school in classes from 5 to 35 students. This broad panel of students (coming from many different backgrounds) gave me the opportunity to assess how to tackle physics/maths problems from different perspectives, enriching the concrete examples I can give to the future students.

Tutoring Approach:

I am convinced, especially with subjects such as physics and maths (which can sometimes be fairly abstract), that once you can catch the interest of the student with something that links the abstract problem to a more concrete/tangible situation or even a well chosen metaphor, the inherent understanding of the physics/maths underneath is suddenly much easier.

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic and friendly individual with a passion for learning. I studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Oxford University and subsequently completed an MSc in the History and Philosophy of Science at the London School of Economics. I am fascinated by the natural world and by scientific enquiry. When I'm not teaching or learning I enjoy foreign cinema, playing tennis, and strumming the guitar.

Teaching Experience:

After completing my undergraduate degree, I worked as a full-time teacher at d'Overbroeck's Sixth Form College, Oxford. During this four-year period, I taught A-level Philosophy, Sociology and Religious Studies (all AQA examining board). More recently, I have worked as a teaching assistant at Canterbury High School, focussing on struggling students and helping them achieve their potential. Concurrently, I have also worked as a private tutor teaching GCSE Maths, Chemistry and Physics as well as 11+ Maths preparation.

Tutoring Approach:

Once I understand exactly what a tutee hopes to achieve (e.g. A* Maths GCSE, or simply understanding algebra) I have three main priorities as a tutor:

i) to identify a students strengths and weaknesses through short tests

ii) to provide a course of study and assessment that will focus on the weaknesses and monitor progress

iii) to give the student belief in themselves and their abilities and to instill a love of learning!

Personal Description:
I am currently studying toward a MSci Physics at UCL. Since young, I have been interested in science and mathematics and I would love to share my passion for science with more young people. When I was in high school, I was a prefect and one of the boarding house representatives and I worked closely with my peers to solve students' issues. I also played the piano and gave many concerts there. I was part of the archery team which came first in the Northern Ireland school competition and I was the third best archer. Currently, I have joined the choir, several volunteering groups, rowing club and the fencing club.

Teaching Experience:

I have had two years of tutoring experience and I have also helped many A-Level students with their UCAS application. From subject/university choices and personal statement to confirming choices, I advised them through the whole UCAS application process. Every one of them have entered their preferred university. I have also tutored many students back in China during my summer holidays. Many of them have received offers or have already entered Russell group universities. While having an excellent academic record is crucial, I believe knowing how to teach is much more important than knowing, and I am confident that I can explain topics clearly and answer any questions my tutee may have.

Tutoring Approach:

I consider tutoring to be very much an interactive process. I have tutored many students and I have found out the key for them to grasp an idea quickly is to practice problems and develop independent thinking. The process of solving itself, i.e. understating the concept, is much more important than getting a correct answer through memorized method. Once the concept has been apprehended, the method of solving problem will become obvious. I see three steps in my tutoring method. The first step is to explain difficult topics in textbooks and help my tutee with assigned work from school. The second step is to deliver a custom made course of the exam syllabus, offering much more clarity and depth compared to lessons at school. Finally, I would be a guide for my tutees to develop independent problem solving skills and learning pattern which would maximize their own potential. The tutoring approach will evolve during the course of tutorials to make sure all three steps are covered and all the specific needs of my tutee are met.

Personal Description:
You may call me Olu, I am a young man currently studying on my PhD. In the area of academics, I have come a long way, learning and teaching, the cycle never ends.

It is fun meeting people and sharing knowledge, this is one thing I do with passion. I do not only consider teaching as a Job, but also as a hobby as it is fun making people understand what they had thought was confusing.

Teaching Experience:

My Teaching Experience dates back to my days as an A'Level student preparing for the GCE Cambridge A'Levels Exam in 2005. I made sure I carried all my colleagues along by conducting regular free tutorials.

When I got into the University, I continued. Every other evenings and every weekend, I would take part in tutorial sessions for my colleagues and sometimes for junior colleagues. This I did from 2006 to 2011.

In 2012, I registered as an Online-Tutor and have engaged a number of students in America and UK on mathematics and engineering related subjects. Not to mention that I have been involved in peer revision meetings all through my post graduate days at the University of Manchester where I took charge of conducting Mock Examinations.

To me, this has been fun.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is very very simple:

Step 1: Ask you what area you have problems with.
Step 2: Tell you to go on and teach me the aspects you know and even the aspects you do not know.
Step 3: I will take note of your strengths and weaknesses.
Step 4: Leave the rest to me, the tutorials would be worth the time and pay.

PS: Many times, from experience, students think they have problems with a topic, but all they have is just "no confidence about what they know". That is where we come in, to restore your confidence in the things you know and add to it. Hence, my best approach is to keep the interaction "both-ways".
