Personal Description:
Hello! I am 37 years old, originally from Denmark and moved to the UK 12 years ago for my degree. Before teaching, I worked as a monkey veterinary technician in the US, conducted my Masters research on crop-raiding macaques in Indonesia, and helped to run a volunteer expedition in the Amazon. After a couple of years of teaching in secondary school as a Science and Spanish teacher, I heard the call of the wild again and travelled for a year through Mexico and Central America. I am now working for an independent school in the Rochdale area and have gained experience tutoring a wide range of subjects and a wide range of ages.

I have an up to date enhanced CRB.

Teaching Experience:

I completed my teaching degree in 2007 at Canterbury Christ Church University. I trained in two very different types of schools, private Catholic school and selective high school, which gave me the experience to engage students of different abilities and backgrounds. I also received training to teach EAL and SEN students. My teaching qualification is in Science, but as a fluent Spanish linguist I have also taught Spanish to both adults and children. I teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics up to GCSE level, and other subjects I currently teach include Maths up to GCSE level and English up to Key Stage 3.

Tutoring Approach:

Students, young and old, don't like subjects they don't think they can succeed in. My approach is to break down material, relate it to everyday life and interests, and positively reinforce all the way to build up confidence. I am stubborn (!) and I don't give up until it's mastered.

Personal Description:
I have a degree in Physics from the University of Nottingham and have taught Science in schools for over 8 years. I have a wide variety of teaching experience, from tutoring English to small groups of 6 year olds, to teaching A level Physics in college. I love teaching and especially enjoy seeing students progress, become more confident and gain a real interest and love of the subject.

Teaching Experience:

I spent 7 years living in Thailand where I gained a TEFL certificate (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and taught both England and Science in an international program at one of the top government schools in Bangkok. I also taught English, Maths and Science as a tutor, both on a one-to-one basis and to small groups. I recently gained a PGCE in Secondary Science from Manchester Metropolitan University and have been working as a supply teacher in a variety of secondary schools in the Cheshire area, but am now looking to concentrate on private tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to encourage a love of the subject and take great joy in seeing students progress and become successful. I try to be friendly and supportive whilst also striving for excellent results. Personal Description:
Tahmina is a confident and outgoing person with a positive personality. A grammar school- educated graduate and Mathematics teacher based in Central London.

She is a patient and supportive tutor with several years experience teaching pupils in a mainstream classroom setting, in small groups and on a one-to-one level. Tahmna is very familiar with the GCSE and 11+ structures and is confident in preparing pupils for these examinations.

She has high expectations of all her pupils and strongly believes that aiming high is the first step to academic success. Tahmina provides her students with self-confidence and motivation within her lessons. Her passion for her specialist subject and light hearted approach has worked well for many of her previous pupils where their results have exceeded their predicted grades in GCSE mathematics achieving A*-B grades. She has had very high pass rates with 90% of her 11+ students securing their place in Grammar schools.

Teaching Experience:

Holding a bachelor honours degree in Mathematics and Education as well as a qualified teacher status, her experience ranges from Key stage 2 to 4. She has taught both in primary and secondary schools across Sussex and Kent as well as tuition centres including 'Extra Tuition Centre' and 'Tuitions for you' based in North West Kent.

Tahmina has been working as a Secondary Maths Teacher in an oversubscribed academy in London. She has recently been through an OFSTED inspection under the new framework (2012) and has been graded overall as a "good" teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

In the initial lesson, Tahmina assesses her student's current level and aims to build upon their current knowledge and understanding. She works with pupils on an individual basis and personalises lessons to cater for their learning needs.

Tahmina uses engaging and innovative methods to teach difficult concepts in mathematics. Using ICT is essential, PowerPoint's, e-learning such as mymaths and mathswatch are all used to engage learners and consolidate their learning.
She often addresses difficult areas of the mathematics curriculum by making links to real life contexts and personal interests. For example teaching negative numbers links are made to shopping and overdrafts to engage pupils to something they would want to buy themselves. This has been proven to be an effective method within classrooms in outstanding schools and is therefore replicated within a one-to-one scenario.

"An inspiring and enthusiastic tutor, who is committed to teaching and helping your child achieve their full potential"

Personal Description:
I am a student at King's College London, currently in my third year of undergraduate medicine.

Having finished school education (@KEGS) with respectable grades, I feel that I am capable of delivering the necessary expertise in the subjects I offer, and relate to the demanding environment of late school life, tailoring my support accordingly.

I am an exceptional academic who has proven himself in various national competitions.

[As for interests, I have always been a keen reader of sci-fi and steampunk. I play fencing and hockey with the uni, while in my younger years I swam and figure skated. I was with the school's cadet force for 5 years and enjoy outdoor adventure.]

Teaching Experience:

None of note. .

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in goal-based learning; essentially targeting and refining teaching of a subject for the specific purpose of excelling in exams. This enhances efficiency and reduces excess learning investment which might be directed elsewhere. While this may seem graceless, I know that this reflects the current ethics of the education system, and that learning for the sake of the subject (outside of the curriculum) is done by those interested enough in it to not require a tutor. Despite this, I am amendable to teaching in full, can adapt to any requests.

I tailor teaching to individual students and ensure understanding is present at every stage before proceeding.

I believe in honest, open teaching and in two-way communication between tutor and tutee. I hope to engage the learner at all stages, discussing and resolving uncertainties and misconceptions.

Finally, I will fully invest my energies into assuring your success, as it will be as personal to me as it is to you!

Personal Description:
I am curious, friendly and very interested in pedagogy.

Teaching Experience:

I have been giving private lessons in mathematics and physics for the past 10 years during summer holidays.

Tutoring Approach:

During a private lesson, a student must have time to achieve a deeper understanding of information seen in school. I try to develop students intuition to understand new notions and put an emphasis on an enjoyable way of learning and solving problems.

Personal Description:
Hi I am Naresh. I am a research scientist. I hold a Master's degree in Physics at the Nanoscale from King's College London (KCL) with a mark of distinction. Scientific research and teaching are my passions. I am currently involved in various research projects in nanotechnology and I love to explore the fascinating properties of materials at the nanoscale. In my teaching I aim to share the beauty & fascination of physics with my students

Teaching Experience:

I have been giving personal tuition in physics for the last three years. Most of my students have achieved top grades in their exams.

Tutoring Approach:

In my teaching experience I have found that learning (and scoring) in physics primarily depends on one`s ability to visualise the intricate physical concepts in terms of real life situations. I try to make my students think like a physicist by relating theory with the real life examples. Being a scientist myself, I share my knowledge and fascination of physics with my students with examples from cutting edge research. By helping to master the fundamentals and develop problem-solving skills I aim to enable my students to get the highest grades in their exams.

Personal Description:
I am an educational enthusiast. Our near infinite capacity for learning is our greatest strength and there are few things I enjoy more than supporting that ongoing journey at any level and in any setting. To this end I have taught mathematics in schools, worked as a personal trainer and a personal tutor, coached sports from rugby to surfing and I am still just as passionate about learning new skills and helping others to do likewise as I was as a child.

Unfortunately the educational system doesn't always manage to inspire young people to appreciate the joy of learning, and one of my main goals as a tutor is to show my students just how rewarding and enjoyable learning can be. If you can see learning as a worthwhile and satisfying challenge rather than a cause of stress and anxiety then the rest comes much more easily.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently working as a secondary school Mathematics teacher, in which role I have taught KS3, GCSE, and A-level classes. I have also prepared both school age and mature students for the ALAN Numeracy and Functional Skills qualifications. In addition to Mathematics I have taught Science and Geography in schools.

I have lectured in Sports Science and Physiology, and have a strong track record for private tuition in Mathematics, Science and French, both for intervention and as a sole provider in the case of home-schooling.

I hold a Master TEFL certificate with to up modules in Advanced Grammar.

Tutoring Approach:

I always tailor my approach to tutoring to best support the individual. This requires me to adapt my teaching style to suit the student's current level, preferred working styles and the exact syllabus and format in which they will be assessed (which can vary depending on exam boards etc.)

I like to liaise with class teachers where possible to get a full picture of the student's ability and to identify where my intervention can be most beneficial. Where this is not appropriate I will carry out an initial assessment myself to allow me to focus my tuition and use the sessions to the best advantage of the student.

The taught sessions will involve using a broad range of activities and tools to support not only progress within individual topics but also the ability to apply this learning to novel situations.

Personal Description:
I thoroughly enjoy teaching by gaining the child's attention and keeping them determined to always achieve their best. I'm a very enthusiastic and confident individual who is committed to enhance students' self esteem. Since I am still a University College London student myself; I find it very easy to get along with younger learners, making sure the lesson is not only informative but enjoyable too.
I tutor from home, mainly because I have a large whiteboard and seem to find it very helpful when interacting with my students. However, I do also teach at local places, such as the Library.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring Maths and Science up to GCSE level privately for three years now. Thus, I have worked with young learners from all walks of life, some even with special needs. I have developed my skills on how to become sympathetic and easy going with my students, yet firm and serious when necessary. This is because I feel it is important to allow the student to feel at ease during the lesson, however, they should concentrate on their work at the same time.
Furthermore, during 2011 academic year I worked at an Arabic School as a teacher's assistant. I also volunteered for various organisations, such as a maths assistant at Friary park community centre, and in 2010 I assisted in a Reception class in Derwentwater Primary school.
I am currently employed at Kumon and part time at First Class Learning, tutoring Maths and English to children of all ages. I have worked with children as young as three. Working in these centres has taught me how to ensure the students stay focused at all times. Moreover, I am continually developing new skills through the ongoing experiences.

Tutoring Approach:

I tend to use a variety of methods when teaching, depending on the child and their needs, focusing on their age and what their syllabus requires. I am capable to do quick summarised revision sessions, as well as long term lesson plans. Either way I ensure that the student is always given homework and stays revising. I also do small mastery tests at the start of each lesson which consists of a five minute recap test, so the student is required to have revised the previous lesson well. Obviously if they struggle with the homework or mastery test, then the lesson plan's pace is adjusted to meet the child's level. This helps to ensure that the student masters each topic before moving on to the next.

Personal Description:
I am a second year Oxford Undergraduate studying physics. I was at school at Winchester College where I boarded, giving me lots of opportunity to help other students of all abilities with their studies. I have three younger siblings who I have always helped with their learning.

Teaching Experience:

For the past two years I have been working as a private tutor in maths, physics and chemistry during the univeristy holidays. I have speciallised in helping struggling students at at GCSE and A-level who are failing to achieve the grades they need. I am also available to help bright students with maths or physics scholarship exams or Oxbridge interview preperation in physics.

Tutoring Approach:

The Christmas holiday is a crucial period to get on track for the summer exams. Filling gaps early on saves time, builds confidence and enables students to revise effectively nearer the time.
I have tutored both A-level and GCSE students over the Christmas period for the last two years and helped them build effective strategies to prepare them for a very academically important few months. Former students have always then extended the tuition into the more intensive Easter period, when we make the final preparations to ensure that they get the grades they deserve. I am in a unique position of having had recent experience of these exams and also a real knack of explaining how to solve problems in an effective and productive way, an area I get particularly good feedback on. So I know exactly what it takes to prepare effectively and I am equipped with the necessary skills to ensure my students carry it out.
I have particular success teaching Maths to students who are struggling or under confident in the approach to GCSE and students that have fallen behind in class and need some one-on-one sessions to get them back on track.

Personal Description:
I have a passion about teaching. it is very satisfying to help people in their studies and make sure they achieve what they are hoping to achieve. I have a master degree in Mechanical Engineering from University College of London. I am currently working as a Homologation engineer in Nissan which is based in Cranfield. I am 24 and married with no children yet.

Teaching Experience:

During school I set up a maths club for all grades in the school to help everyone with their maths concerns. This was a great opportunity to learn more about how to teach and explain mathematics. when I started going to university, I started to teach maths and physics privately and did it until I graduated.

Tutoring Approach:

I need to understand the needs of my tutee and their aims towards his/her grade. Then I normally talk and agree with them how to approach and get better on weak areas and improve on strong areas.

Personal Description:
I'm a recent graduate from University College London studying BEng Electronic and Electrical Engineering and I am aiming to start an MSc in Power Systems Engineering in the next year. I have always had a great fondness of maths and the sciences and have based my study choices on that fondness. I developed my love of these subjects while studying at a private school (Bancroft's School) in Woodford Green where I also partook in the large range of extracurricular activities (incl. sports teams, drama and Combined Cadet Force). It is these activities that, I feel, have given me the ability to work efficiently and improved my interpersonal skills. At university, I have also been part of the hockey society and where I captained a team and was part of the overall committee. My general passion of maths and science is one of which I hope to share with most I meet.

Teaching Experience:

I have had several years experience tutoring, most have been while I was at school, where I taught my colleagues through out the years. My name was then passed on to their parents who employed me to teach younger siblings and to their family friends.
During my senior years in the CCF, it was required that the younger years would need to be taught the relevant materials. These were generally classes of about 15 teenagers and lessons occurring each week and tests of my own devising to be given at the end of the term.

Tutoring Approach:

I personally believe that the key to retaining knowledge is to fully grasp the concepts and being able to relate the idea to a real life situation. In one on one tutoring it is ideal to gain a positive rapport between student and teacher where openness will allow for direct targeting of areas of difficulty. When issues are raised, they can be tackled accordingly to help alleviate any doubt and increase overall confidence. An amicable relationship must be maintained so as to keep the student happy and smiling. I believe if you are in a good mood and at ease it will be much easier to learn. Finally, PRACTISE, PRACTISE, PRACTISE. Once the concepts have been learnt, the more you go over examples, the more familiar you are with it. My hope is that the student starts to dream about the solution to questions!

Personal Description:
I am a final year undergraduate student of Physics at the University of Strathclyde, currently working towards my Masters accreditation having this year achieved a Bachelors degree with Honours.
En route to this point, I have worked both with the public in customer service jobs - through which I have greatly improved my communication skills - and with research doctors at a professional level, where I came to appreciate the support and value a good education can bring.

Teaching Experience:

Throughout my studies I have often been called on to present my work to professors and peers alike. I have found that to do so effectively requires both a solid understanding of the material, and an ability to put oneself in the position of the audience. I have been perfecting this ability over the course of the last four years, and I believe it to be a core skill in a tutor.
In addition, I am elder brother to two siblings and, being the first through the gauntlet of high school, frequently on the receiving end of a call for help, which I am only too happy to be able to answer!

Tutoring Approach:

Whilst more often than not my brother and sister would be calling for the answer to a question and nothing more, I have found that the best way to slow their calls is to tackle the root of the question: comprehension of the subject at hand. In school the curriculum will be under immense pressure to be completed on time, and in addition to all the other subjects a pupil will be doing, it's easy for, say, some discreet law of indices to slip the mind.
I believe that by spending just that little bit more time tackling some related questions with somebody who knows what pitfalls to look out for, a student with the right attitude can improve their grades. And I believe that's where I can help.
