Initially find the level of student then according to his/her ability explain go through a couple of examples. Then set task for the pupil any difficulty rectify on the spot. At the end of lesson set home work. If students have a particular difficulty then explain and go through a couple of examples together.

Personal Description:
For the last few years I have been supply teaching. In the main- short term contracts, usually to cover maternity leave or sickness etc. Before that I taught English as a foreign language in Barcelona. I have a TEFL certificate. I have recently returned from two terms teaching Physics to A level at the British School Tennerife. This was a maternity cover and included setting up the practical exam for the students.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught science in secondary comprehensive state schools for over 20 years. Ages range from 11 to 18 mixed ability, teaching physics to A level. I am an assistant examiner working for Cambridge International and marking A level physics papers. Also moderating Physics A level coursework for Edexcel.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutored for friends in the past. I am currently a serving teacher who marks exam papers and is therefore aware of the requirements demanded in exams. I teach the latest syllabus for the various key stages. I am very tolerant and patient with my students.

I am a mature lady (50yo) with a 1st Class Electrical/Electronic Engineering Degree (B.Sc) from Birmingham University and a Postgraduate Management qualification from Cambridge University.

My own 'A' Levels were Biology, Maths and Physics with a particular focus on electronics. At University I studied Maths at degree level.

I am also trained in other areas such as photo-reading (speed reading), hypnotherapy and craniosacral therapy. I have worked with young people utilising various modalities to help them gain confidence and choose careers/subjects that bring out the best in them. I studied for a time in a Rudolph Steiner environment so I appreciate the value of alternative approaches to educating young people. I was also a member of the Academy Appeals panel for some time in Hereford (for the Steiner Academy there).

From 2009 to 2012 I worked in an Admin capacity for OFSTED travelling around Schools and Colleges up and down the SW of England. My particular area of responsibility was the safeguarding and protection of children.

In 2011 I attended an Introduction to Autism training with the HANDLE organisation as I increasingly meet young people struggling on the Autism spectrum so this topic is of particular interest to me. I would be able to help refer any child who needed more specialised care. Related to this I have also been studying Human Design which is an invaluable tool for understanding how unique we all are.

I am friendly, empathic and good with younger people. I endeavour to help bring out the best in them on all levels.

Teaching Experience:

I have successfully tutored Maths and Physics to High School students whilst living abroad in Canada and back here in the UK where I have been based more lately.

I work at my home in Totnes and ask the student to bring all relevant texts with them for the lesson.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to explain a principle with a student first, checking that they understand at various points and emphasising that they should stop and ask questions at any point. I then ask the student to explain, from the beginning, whatever the area may have been, in order to further confirm understanding. I also work through exam and textbook questions with the student, offering hints and answers as and when necessary.

I find past papers an excellent way to revise for exams and also to demonstrate the level of understanding needed.

Usually I like to recap/feedback to the student at the end of each lesson, but I can also provide a short summary by email to parents if you feel that could be helpful, in order to track progress.

I'm also happy to advise and assist with university applications, i.e personal statements, interview practice or entrance exams.

I have taught as Lecturer at under-grad level in the department of mechanical engineering, UET Lahore for almost three years. I am a very friendly person with a lot of patience, as teaching is profession which needs patience. I just finished my MBA in Banking and Finance from University of Wales.
