Personal Description:
A full member of the Tutors Association, I have much tuition, coaching and training experience; both one-to-one and in groups.
Holding several relevant academic qualifications (including a degree in Maths & Physics), I am also a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Scientist, full Corporate Member of the Institute of Physics.
During my career, I have held several senior management positions within several British based companies.
Having a fundamental love of virtually all things mathematical and scientific, I very much enjoy passing on this enthusiasm & knowledge to GCSE and 'A' Level students, with the aim of enhancing their skills & boosting examination performance.
I hold full and current CRB accreditation.

Teaching Experience:

I have been offering GCSE & 'A' Level tuition in Maths & Physics since 1997
The vast majority of students with whom I have worked have either achieved, or surpassed, their target grades.
During the last academic year (2012/2013)) I was pleased to work regularly (typically weekly) with seventeen GCSE Maths students, four 'A' Level Maths students, three 'A' Level Physics students, and one student studying Electrical Engineering.

Tutoring Approach:

Being an active participant in, and supporter of, the whole education process, I have also held a four year LEA Governorship at a school in mid-Devon.
My approach to tutoring is, first of all, to talk openly with any potential student (ideally with parent or guardian present) in order to find out what is required, the problems, issues etc.
I treat all students as adults, and do not patronise or talk down to them, ie I treat each one as a mature individual. My aim is to work closely with each student, in the way that best suits him/her, in order to empower him/her with higher levels of knowledge and ability. The result being that their confidence and skill levels increase to those necessary to achieve the best possible exam grades. I encourage my students to actively participate in the tutoring process; to challenge, and to ask questions and discuss all aspects of the work content.
I coach all my students in exam techniques, with emphasis on layout, showing working, best use of time etc.
Last, but certainly not least, I believe it to be of fundamental importance to work with all my students in complete confidence; before, during and after any tutoring involvement.

Personal Description:
Hello,

My name is Ernie. I am currently studying for an MEng degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering at Loughborough University. I am now in my third year of the course, having spent the past 15 months on placement at a class leading automotive manufacturer developing software and hardware driving simulator solutions.

As a result of my studies and industrial experience, I have become proficient in advanced electronics and ICT skills as well as having excellent team building and interpersonal skills.

I feel that I would be particularly well suited to any GCSE or A Level students who may be looking to undertake a degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Science, as I have experience in the admissions process and can assist with personal statement and CV writing specifically for these areas.

I can tutor in the Loughborough area, within 3miles of the town centre. I can travel further afield but these sessions would be subject to a small travel expense.

Teaching Experience:

2006-2008: Assisted in Years 9-11 classes, helping students in a range of subjects including Science, Mathematics, French and ICT.

2005-2008: Ran lectures for small groups of Air Training Corps cadets in a range of subjects resulting in a series of examinations which lead to a BTEC in General Aviation Studies.

2010-2011: Ran training seminars whilst on placement relating to the usage of driving simulator capabilities.

Tutoring Approach:

I enjoy helping others learn, and particularly enjoy taking a practical approach when teaching technical subjects. As a result, the tutoring sessions will hopefully be a bit different from traditional ones, and therefore may allow the student to take in the lessons more readily.

Personal Description:
I am currently a student pursuing my undergraduate in Actuarial Science at London School of Economics.
I have achieved A*A*A*A in my recent A Level results and have also represented my country in various mathematics competition which include me winning an Honourable Mention in Asia Pacific Mathematics Olympiad.
Have also achieved Gold Medal in National Physics Competition in my country.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught an International baccalaureate student Mathematics and Chemistry for 6 months now in the UK.
I have previously volunteered with the Salvation Army and had taught GCSE students over there. Overall it went quite well and I saw improvement in their ability to answer questions and attitude towards the subject.
I have also been an assistant Mathematics Olympiad coach. This job required me to lecture some of the best students in Malaysia so that they can score well in national competitions.
Thus, I believe I am able to teach students of different abilities.

Tutoring Approach:

I usually start with the basics. I believe that with a good basic, the student would then be able to improve him/herself to be better instead of just idly solving a question and showing the steps to the student.
Also, I would try to include real life application if its possible so that the student remain interested and understand more about the things being studied.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified teacher with experience of teaching and tutoring maths, biology, chemistry and physics to GCSE level and physics to A-level. Prior to qualifying as a teacher, I worked as a university researcher coaching undergraduates in their final year projects and then as a teaching assistant in a secondary school providing small group and one to one tuition tailored for the needs of individual students. I also have experience in preparing candidates for 11+ school examinations.

Teaching Experience:

Following eight years working in university education, I have spent four years working in secondary schools including two years as a teaching assistant, providing small group and one to one tuition, and then one year working towards my PGCE and a further year as a fully qualified teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

I carefully evaluate the learning needs of each individual student, looking at their existing knowledge, strengths and weaknesses to provide a structured approach to the tuition sessions.

I provide a friendly, positive approach to teaching maths and science to build confidence in subjects that some students find daunting. By exploring the underlying meaning behind concepts that may cause difficulties, I aim to improve understanding and help the student gain confidence in their own ability to learn.

For students taking examinations, I ensure a thorough preparation by focusing on exam technique and concentrating on past examination questions and analysis of mark schemes to allow students to achieve the best results that they are capable of.

For students preparing for 11+ examinations I focus on building confidence in key skills needed for success, using a variety of strategies and activities tailored for the particular exams that the student will be taking.

Personal Description:
I am studying for a PhD in Life Sciences at the University of Manchester, with a focus on breast cancer research.

I absolutely love teaching science, to students of all ages. I am very patient, organised and reliable, and will work very hard to make sure you get the results you are after.

I am also the Director of Fastbleep Biology Schools, a voluntary organisation run by PhD students that aims to "Bring Biology to Life" in schools through science workshops.

Teaching Experience:

I am an experienced science tutor at both GCSE and A-level.

I regularly work with KS2/3/4/5 as part of my work with Fastbleep Biology Schools.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring style is very interactive- I think it is important to find out how someone learns best, and then tailor my sessions to reflect that.

I understand the difficulties of learning science, particularly the terminology, and so I try and break through that barrier by explaining things in simple terms before moving on.

I am good at explaining difficult topics in fun ways that are easy to understand and remember.

Personal Description:
I have a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Aberdeen and before that I got an MChem in Chemistry. I also have extensive knowledge of Biology until A Level and Physics until GCSE. I currently work for an educational publisher working on international education books up to A Level.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a tutor in the past and I have tutored primarily university students (4 years experience) but I do have experience in tutoring school level students in all three sciences. I have successfully tutored students to grade A standard at A Level and GCSE, with one student gaining an A*.

Tutoring Approach:

Due to work commitments I have been away from tutoring for a while (around 4 years) but it is something that I wish to get back into as I found it very rewarding. During a previous role I was selected as a mentor for new graduate trainees which ignited my desire to become a tutor again.

I tend to structure the sessions depending on the needs to the individual. I am happy to simply go over a topic or come up with sample tests - I am totally flexible and will aim to cater for your requirements.

Personal Description:
I am currently studying Geophysics at Imperial College London, Royal School Of Mines. I am an active and friendly person, and truly wish to help students whilst studying the subjects that I use in my everyday life. I have 5 A Levels in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. I am particularly qualified to teach the Core Mathematics modules at A level (C1, C2, C3, C4), as well as the Mechanics modules (M1, M2, M3).

Teaching Experience:

I have voluntarily tutored students in mathematics to ensure they pass their GCSE exams. However, on a day-to-day basis, I have consistently helped fellow classmates, giving explanations of the sciences and maths to help them understand the work at GCSE and A Level.

Tutoring Approach:

Students must have easy and reliable methods to ensure the best possible understanding of mathematics and sciences. Once specific examples of questions have been taught, it is important that the student tries the techniques his/herself with guidance. I am a firm believer of 'practice makes perfect', and so I prepare a range of questions that should challenge the student, whilst building their confidence in the subject. However, I understand that time is valuable and sometimes the student may just need help finishing their coursework, and so I will adjust my tutoring approach to suit the individual.

Personal Description:
I am currenting studying Dentistry at the University of Liverpool.

I graduated as a microbiologist at the University of Warwick 2012, I have the desire to improve human health, by having done my degree in Medical Microbiology & Virology and two extra-curricular research projects (both working on human/mammalian pathogens) ,I developed an ever stronger research interest in medically important pathogens. During the laboratory research experiences on bacterial and viral pathogens, I have developed experience and knowledge in a number of key techniques such as using site- directed mutagenesis, restriction enzyme digestion, transformation, electrophoresis, haemocytometry, end- point titration assay, plaque assay, western blot, DNA/RNA extraction, luciferase assay and maintenance of mammalian cell cultures (Huh7.5). The final year modules on Bacteria: Genes to Behaviour and on Pathogen and Pathogenicity gave me an insight into the fascinating world of bacterial pathogens, such as the Type III secretion system and gene expression profile of the pathogenicity island of various pathogens.

I have gained 4 A grades in Biology, Chemistry, Math and Physics from my A-levels and I am a conscientious and reliable individual who can work effectively with students, possess good communication skills and time management. I firmly believe these qualities would allow me to make an excellent contribution in teaching. I shall listen, learn and use my own initiative to help students to achieve their full potential.

Teaching Experience:

I have work as a graduate teaching assistant at a girls' secondary school in central London in 2012/2013. I mainly work with SEN (students with special needs) students as well as gifted & talented students. I also help with the general science classes across the entire science department (from year 7 to year 13) and help to teach some lessons.

As a private tutor I have experiences teaching GCSE and A-Level students in their preparation for science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) as well as Maths examinations. To achieve good results I believe that one should not only have a good understanding of the knowledge, but also possess excellent exam techniques to approach these questions. One of my strength is my method to target exam questions.

I also have the privileges working in a care home and helping people with learning disabilities. During this period, I supported people with autism, dyspraxia and cerebral palsy. I got the chance to teach some of the autistic young adults to learn basic calculations and spellings. This experience gave me enormous rewards and confidence in helping people with special needs.

I am extremely patient and gentle with students I can understand different people learn best through different ways, especially for some who have learning barriers such as dyslexia. Since I tailor my style of teaching according to each individual needs, so they can understand and remember in a better way. As a result, they made very good progresses in their exams!

Personal Description:
4th year medical student. At Barts and the London school of medicine (Queen Mary university of London)
Also studying biomedical engineering at Imperial. (It`s a trial Imperial is trying with me as they were satisfied with my qualifications)

hold international Olympiad certificates for Math, Physics, and chemistry, and have received gold, silver, silver in them respectively

AS , A2 Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Persian All "A"s
AS Economics A

Teaching Experience:

Have taught Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology locally at AS and A2 Level.
Unfortunately this website doesn't allow me to link you to those whom i have taught. but i could get you in touch with them if you like to see how satisfied they are and to prove to you the managed to get an A quite easily.
Can teach further at biology as I am a medic.
Have taught English as well

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer making the student understand the concepts. Which is not something tutors do anymore.
I don't just make them memorize. you'd be surprised how much more you can retain when you understand the underlying concept.
If you forget something or a formula, you can work it out from what i have taught you.
it is an approach that all of my tutees have loved so far, and they all come back for the following years. haven't had a single tutee who hasn't been extremely satisfied and all of them were of course happy with the A grades they achieved.

Personal Description:
I'm a recent graduate from University College London studying BEng Electronic and Electrical Engineering and I am aiming to start an MSc in Power Systems Engineering in the next year. I have always had a great fondness of maths and the sciences and have based my study choices on that fondness. I developed my love of these subjects while studying at a private school (Bancroft's School) in Woodford Green where I also partook in the large range of extracurricular activities (incl. sports teams, drama and Combined Cadet Force). It is these activities that, I feel, have given me the ability to work efficiently and improved my interpersonal skills. At university, I have also been part of the hockey society and where I captained a team and was part of the overall committee. My general passion of maths and science is one of which I hope to share with most I meet.

Teaching Experience:

I have had several years experience tutoring, most have been while I was at school, where I taught my colleagues through out the years. My name was then passed on to their parents who employed me to teach younger siblings and to their family friends.
During my senior years in the CCF, it was required that the younger years would need to be taught the relevant materials. These were generally classes of about 15 teenagers and lessons occurring each week and tests of my own devising to be given at the end of the term.

Tutoring Approach:

I personally believe that the key to retaining knowledge is to fully grasp the concepts and being able to relate the idea to a real life situation. In one on one tutoring it is ideal to gain a positive rapport between student and teacher where openness will allow for direct targeting of areas of difficulty. When issues are raised, they can be tackled accordingly to help alleviate any doubt and increase overall confidence. An amicable relationship must be maintained so as to keep the student happy and smiling. I believe if you are in a good mood and at ease it will be much easier to learn. Finally, PRACTISE, PRACTISE, PRACTISE. Once the concepts have been learnt, the more you go over examples, the more familiar you are with it. My hope is that the student starts to dream about the solution to questions!

Personal Description:
Having taken some time off from my career in order to raise my young family, I recently completed a period of updating to refresh my skills and am now eager to return to teaching. I am a graduate of Imperial College, London and an Associate of the Royal College of Science.

Teaching Experience:

I am a fully qualified physics teacher with maths as a second subject. I have experience of delivering the National Curriculum to Key Stage Three, Four and Five. I have consistently helped my pupils to achieve excellent exam grades. I am up-to-date with current teaching methods and curriculum content. I have also had experience teaching English as a Foreign Language, including two years working in Japanese elementary and Junior High Schools as an Assistant English Teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that all students can, with the right kind of encouragement and motivation, succeed in physics and maths. I work hard to build up pupils' confidence by helping them to gain a more detailed and accurate understanding of the topics covered. I believe in a child-centred approach to education and use 'assessment for learning' techniques to teach students how to achieve and to recognise their own success.

Personal Description:
I am a Mathematics undergraduate at Imperial College London. I have just completed `A` levels 4 months ago and below are my special interests whilst studying 'A' levels:
•Discovering alternative (to the textbook) viewpoints to explain physical phenomena.
•Completing proofs in mathematics textbooks (especially for the statistics modules).
•Sharing and contemplating these with peers and teachers!

I thoroughly enjoyed the process of deriving various formulae from first principles in order to remember them rather than purely memorising them as instructed by the textbook in many cases. Furthermore, I was even more excited when my peers(mostly juniors!) shared my stance when I shared my ideas. I am `dying` to share them with you!
(NB I am able to communicate in English and Mandarin. This might be helpful if you have linguistic issues.)

Hobbies: Reading (about mathematical/theoretical physics), badminton, running and swimming.

Teaching Experience:

•Demonstrating scientific experiments during school open days (2012-2013).
•Informally teaching my peers using derived mathematical proofs and alternative viewpoints in Physics as mentioned before.

Tutoring Approach:

I am most free on
Wednesdays after 1230 and Saturdays all day.
I will try to work something out for other times.

I would be happy to tutor online (at a lower rate).

A charge of £1 for every 5 minutes of travelling in addition to travelling costs will be charged if I were to travel to you. This will be fixed after the first session.

Personal Description:
I studied physics at the University of Durham before gaining a range of work experience where I was able to put my numerical and scientific skills to use on real world applications.

I have worked in the technical department of an international cable maufacturer and as a forensic fire investigator. In both of these roles I was able to indulge my natural thirst for knowledge, my curiosity and enthusiasm for understanding the world around me.

My degree included both advanced studies of physics and a large component of mathematics; indeed, to quote on of my lecturers "If you don;t understand something both conceptually and mathematically then you don;t understand it." I put this at the heart of my teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I am a volunteer instructor at a children's martial arts class, which I have been doing for over a year.

I also have a range of expereinces of mentoring and tutoring siblings and friends on mathematical and science questions, including at degree level.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a highly dynamic approach to tutoring.

The most important aspect is identifying areas where the student is struggling and deconstructing these in order to understand precisely where the difficulties lie. Thus making a strong foundation on which further success can be built, not based around tricks and tips, but a solid fundamental grasp of the subject.

Personal Description:
I'm currently studying my third year of Physics at the University of Southampton, after having studied it along with Maths, Music, Geography and Critical Thinking at A Level. I achieved A grades at A-level in Maths and Physics, and grades A* to A for the same courses at GCSE level. I'm a creative person and live a lot to do with music and love to learn new things and to help other people learn, because i know i was once at that stage.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored students ranging from 15 to 18 years of age in Physics and Maths before.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to have a relaxed style of tutoring. Figure out how you learn best, be it through simply working through the knowledge or imagining it vividly in your mind. We would work through some questions and figure out where areas can be improved and i'll help you improve in those areas and overall. I like to be always contactable, so i can be emailed, texted, called, skyped, facebooked, anything, communication is pretty key. At the end of the day I'd like to help you improve to the level you want to achieve.
