Personal Description:
Hi all, I'm Ben a 26 year old full time private tutor. I've been working as a private tutor now for 5 years and they have flown by! Tutoring is not just a job to me it's a passion. I'm a laid back guy who's friendly and easy to talk to, I pride myself in my interpersonal skills as well as my academic knowledge I believe both are equally important for tutors to have.

I graduated from Kings College Cambridge University in June '08 with a B.A hons in Natural Sciences, having attended the Brooksbank school and 6th form where I achieved 3 A's and 2 B's at A-level in Maths, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and General Studies. I have been employed by Calderdale Council since July '08 working with children and young people in various roles. I started tutoring as a hobby as it has always given me great satisfaction and enjoyment as well as keeping me in touch with subject that I intend to get back into one day. In June '10 I left my post with Calderdale Council and now work full time as a tutor doing a job I adore.

For my hobbies I enjoy swimming, playing football, DJing, gigging and playing in bands.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring professionally since January '09 and in the period until June'13 I have had the privilege of tutoring more than 100 students spread across all the subjects that I offer. I have taught all abilities ranging from oxford/cambridge applicants to students just wanting to pass the subject, no matter what you're level is I'll work as hard as I can to insure you get best results possible. I have worked full time as a tutor since September '10 meaning that I have been able to dedicate all my time, effort and focus into making sure that all my students excel.

Tutoring Approach:

Through my experience I have found that students learn much better when they are relaxed and comfortable. This has led me to adopt a laid back and informal approach to ensure that the learning environment maximises the tutees ability to learn. I understand that everyone has individual needs and learns differently and because of this I am very adaptable in the way I teach. I focus my lessons on two main areas: the first involves making sure the tutee has a firm understanding of the topic and all the principles that are involved within it removing any misconceptions that would hamper further progress. The second area works on the tutees technique working with them to ensure they can understand, digest and answer questions.

Due to my passion for teaching it gives me the drive to go the extra mile to make sure that all my students fulfill their aspirations. I have helped my previous students with University applications, coursework, interviews, CV's and job applications. Due to working full time as a tutor now I am able to offer constant support for all my tutees so I am able to help whenever they need it.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly and approachable tutor with a huge amount of enthusiasm in the subjects I teach. I was awarded a Scholarship to a competitive independent before working towards a Masters in Biochemistry at Oxford University.

I have since worked as a Pharmaceuticals Business Analyst, as a High Yield Chemicals Industry Analyst in Investment Banking and as an Air Traffic Controller. In each case the knowledge and skills from my education have been critical. I would now like to gain the satisfaction of helping others do well in these subjects and attain their potential.

Teaching Experience:

In my industries it is critical to continue learning and passing exams, and in every role, I have always had to pass on my knowledge and understanding to others, which has been incredibly gratifying. More recently, I have enjoyed tutoring maths and other subjects to pupils locally, often to help them gain entrance to competitive schools. I also enjoy spending time teaching my son and my nieces.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning should always be interesting to the pupil - inspirational even - and that the onus is on the teacher to make this the case. Learning is about being curious and asking questions; in fact I believe pupils should not be scared to ask any question, which means that learning should feel relaxed rather than formal.

Subjects should not be seen as complex but rather layers of straight forward principals that build on what the pupil already knows in an intuitive fashion. In this way, a good teacher allows understanding to grow naturally and not feel like a challenge.

Personal Description:
I am a 24 year old trained primary teacher looking for a new direction in my life. I want to begin supporting children through the knowledge that I have and support them to achieve their own potential.
I live in the Stafford area, having grown up in this area I want to give something back to a county that has given me so much.

Teaching Experience:

Attended university in Wolverhampton where I gained a 2:1 in Primary Teacher Training. I completed four placements during my time at university working in a range of schools, with varying levels of ability and individual needs.
Having graduated, I began teaching in a local Stafford school. I worked in the school for three half terms, subsequently leaving as I felt the full time teaching job wasn't for me at the time.
I am now looking for a way to slowly get back in to teaching and tutoring is where I would like to begin.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe any form of teaching should be engaging for any child to understand and subsequently gain from what they have been shown. Children should always be involved in their own learning, taking control and directing it where they feel they need to gain further knowledge in order to succeed.

Personal Description:
I am a 27 year old male working towards a Ph.D. in renewable energy technology. I am lively and friendly and I enjoy learning as well as teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently tutoring a range of students including Standard Grade, Intermediate 2, Higher, Advanced Higher and university level mathematics and physics. This provides me a broad perspective on the school curriculum and allows me to relate between the different levels and help students fill in any gaps in their knowledge base as well as progress into more advanced topics as their skills develop.

Additionally I have been a Mathematics tutor at the University of Glasgow for three years while doing my Ph.D. During this time I have taught a large number of students with varying levels of ability and helped them get to the standard required for their university career. I have also worked as a private tutor at University level, teaching thermodynamics and fluid/thermal courses.

I have further experience teaching computer programming to second year students and I have worked in Spain teaching English to young children. I like to tailor my teaching approach to the pupils learning style and I am extremely patient and understanding.

Tutoring Approach:

I understand that many students learn in different ways and I try to adapt my style of teaching to the students needs. I am patient and I recognise that mathematics can be a difficult concept to grasp and is something which takes practice. I am friendly and approachable and I try to developed a relaxed and comfortable learning environment. Lastly I really enjoy mathematics and teaching and I think this transfer to the students!

Personal Description:
I am now a undergraduate student studying in the University of Manchester. My major is Electrical and Electronic Engineering so I am fully capable of teaching maths and physics subject for A Levels and degrees below. Besides, I am from China and was also the champion for several international Chinese writing competitions. Therefore, I am also confident that I have the capacity to teach Mandarin.

Teaching Experience:

I used to give private tuition on Maths and Chinese when I was studying in Singapore from 2008 to 2011. I also once worked in a English tuition center in China named Pattison English during my summer and winter vacations.

Tutoring Approach:

1. The basis of maths and physics is all about understanding the concept. Hence what I will try my best to do is to make students have a better understanding of all relevant concepts in various ways.

2. Abundant exercises, I believe, will be very essential and necessary for students. Giving worked examples and exercises will be my another approach.

3. Chinese is my mother tongue. I studied in Singapore for 4 years under a scholarship programme and met numerous people in Singapore whose first language isn't mandarin and had difficulties in learning it. Therefore I know precisely what one needs when studying mandarin. I will use this experience to tackle most of the problems students came across.

Personal Description:
I am an ex- Imperial College academic who now runs a team and personal development consultancy. I am calm and encouraging in manner. I moved out of the city into the countryside six years ago and have never once regretted it.

I was a Science and Engineering Ambassador for SETNET. In 2005 I had and Enhanced Disclosure CRB check. I was responsible for organizing a number of Science Outreach events. Science can be fun!!

I have been told that I am a good motivator and that I help people fulfill their potential. All my students show significant grade enhancement, sometimes from U to A!

Teaching Experience:

I was a senior lecturer in Physical Chemistry at Imperial College London, where I was also Senior Tutor. This meant that I had responsibility for the entire departmental tutorial system for some~450 students and the training of new members of staff. I have been involved in small group teaching for over 13 years.

I have been privately tutoring AS/A2 Chemistry and Physics for around two years in the Hants / Surrey borders.

I also help with UCAS applications as I had an admissions role at IC.

I have some experience of working with people with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ADHD and Aspergers.

Tutoring Approach:

Each student is different and I tailor my method to the needs of the student, offering a bespoke approach. It usually takes three or four sessions to get to know what does and does not work for each individual. I try different methods. Some people learn more visually and conceptually others like more practical methods. I prefer to work through problems / exam papers with the student rather than "teach". That way in working together the student takes responsibility for their own learning. Learning is by discussion and doing.

I try to be as flexible as possible and fit round family schedules.

Personal Description:
I am a Third Year Aeronautical Engineering student at Imperial College London with extensive tutoring experience.

I passed both my first and second years with a First 1:1, obtained 4 A*s at A Level (Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry), 5 A*s, 7 As and a B at GCSE and I want to share my experiences with you to help you attain the best possible grades to get into the university or profession you're passionate about!! :)

I am a very friendly and approachable individual, and it would be a pleasure to help you in your studies!

Please do not hesitate to get in touch for further information/questions, I am more than happy to help.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a formal tutor for the past year utilising both face-to-face and online methods to teach pupils around the country.

Along with this I am currently (in term time), and have been for the past year, a volunteer at a Sixth Form College in London to tutor and support AS and A level students every week as part of the Schools Plus scheme to help tackle educational disadvantage. As part of this scheme I take part in training workshops designed specifically to improve my skills as a tutor.

Some of the training workshops I have been part of:

-Theory behind good teaching
-Effective communication
-Understandings tutees needs and adapting the material, for example when and how to simplify complex material if struggling or alternatively take the material to the next level to challenge them
-Utilising the full potential of time spent together by effectively planning and organising sessions in advance

With the overall aim being for both me and my students to get the best out of each other.

Prior to this I worked with teachers on a regular and continuous basis for two years at my Sixth Form (2010-2012) to provide teaching support to children in Years 7 to 11. I also helped my younger sister with her GCSEs.

Tutoring Approach:

Having successfully been through the A Level process I have first hand knowledge of what it takes to excel in these subjects. However having sat through countless examinations I will help you not only with the academic teaching but also with your exam technique and the revision process itself to help you attain the highest grades. I firstly endeavour to understand what is holding you back (if anything!) and then cater specifically to your needs to help you using skills I have gained through my tutoring experience and tutor training workshops.

I aim to make sure you thoroughly understand the theory and then move onto past papers to really enforce that theory and make sure you know HOW to apply it.

If you have a specific way you'd like to be taught then we can of course adapt, it is all about you and what helps you the most!

Personal Description:
FIRST LESSON FREE (40 minutes)
Travelling expenses of 5 may be payable depending on your location

I am a Medical student and a published author of an A Level Chemistry book. I have been teaching for more than 4 years, both group lessons and one to one.

My students have achieved grades above that expected from their schools. I have experience teaching students from KS1 up to Advanced Level. My teaching techniques have proved very effective to students of all ages including mature students and students with learning disabilities.

I am also a grade 4 violinist and have conducted two local Fidle Fiestas. I also hold a national "Young computer scientist" award.

In 2012, I founded a teaching organisation which is registered in the UK. As part of this I have also been providing free / discounted lessons to students from low incomes families. The organisation is also listed in UK school sponsors list. (Please get in touch and I will send you a link to the website where you can read more)

Knowing what to write in an exam will help you get the high grades you want. The same question under different exam boards sometimes require slightly different answers. These are what we sometimes refer to as "mark scheme" answers. By doing many past papers and studying the mark schemes, one can familiarise themselves with the sort of answer an examiner is looking for. I can teach you just this so your answers will be to the point.

I believe anyone can get high grades with the right practice. A good example is one of my GCSE students who was predicted D and E`s by her school before she started having lessons. Within two months (8 lessons) of having lessons, she got A-A*s in her mock GCSE exams resulting in her predicted grades being lifted up.

My results

A Level
Chemistry A*
Biology A*
Maths A*
Physics A

GCSE

9 A*s, 4 distinctions

Teaching Experience:

More than 5 years private tutoring experience one to one and group tuition
More than 1 year online tutoring experience

Tutoring Approach:

I follow the national curriculum up to KS3 and the respective exam boards for GCSE and A Level.

My approach to tutoring will depend on the individual student and their needs. Some students come to me with a very good idea about their current level. These students can usually tell me where they need help.

Other students need directing. It is quite common for students to not know where they should be heading with their revision. For these students I guide them using the following framework:

- Assessing the level of the student (Different students need different levels of explanation):
I won't use one whole lesson for this assessment. It will be done as I continue to teach the student. I can usually get a very good idea about the student after the first lesson.

- Explaining areas of the subject which the student find difficult to understand and doing questions based on those topics

- Testing the student on all areas using "textbook questions" and past paper questions

- Analysing past paper mark schemes (mostly for GCSE and A Level) which is proven to help with the grades
