Personal Description:
I graduated with a first class undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Nottingham in June 2012. I come from Essex, where I attended Chelmsford County High School for Girls, where I undertook my GCSEs and A-levels in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Economics.

Teaching Experience:

Although I have no previous experience in personal tutoring, I have had relatively recent first-hand experience of GCSE and A-level examinations which I believe would aid me in understanding any problems tutees were undergoing with their studies. I have patience, as well as the ability to listen to what others are saying in order to help them in the best possible way.

Tutoring Approach:

As a recent student myself, I have used many different learning styles whilst studying for my own examinations. Therefore, I am open to use whichever learning style the tutee finds easiest, as well as suggesting ideas for other types of learning styles if they are having difficulty finding a style which suits them. I am always open to new ideas and learning styles, and as a young and creative person, am willing to invent new ways of teaching a topic if other methods are unsuccessful.

I recently completed a PhD in Bioengineering at Imperial College London, carrying out mathematical research on heart disease. My first degree was in Maths at the same university, and I took a Masters in Biomedical Research in between.

I attended both a state school and a top boarding school and am comfortable to cover topics on and off the standard syllabus.

I am a very fun, friendly person with a wide range of activities and hobbies from inline skating to singing and playing the violin.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored A-level maths privately for a few years, and also spent several weeks as a teaching assistant in a secondary school during my undergraduate degree as part of the Student Associates Scheme. Many of my contemporaries from university are science and mathematics teachers across England and overseas, and I periodically discuss teaching methods and curriculum changes with them.

During my PhD, I led undergraduate tutorials and problems classes in the Mathematics and several Engineering departments, teaching undergraduates from 1st year to 4th year. The courses include Mathematical Methods, Matlab, Fluid Mechanics, PDEs, Modelling in Biology, Heat and Mass Transfer. I also carried out 1-1 tuition for undergraduates at departmental request. With both Maths and Physics if there is a lack of good foundational understanding then building on weak foundations will lead to problems. Tutoring Approach:

Before the first class, I would like to communicate with the student to see which way he/she prefers and his/her aims.
As for students and adults who would like to learn Mandarin as a second or third language, I recommend more conversations during the class and do some readings and writings as well.
For those who study for exams, such A-level exams, I would like to change the approaches according to students' needs. Sometimes students may have no idea at one whole topic, I would like to introduce the topic from the beginning to the end. At the other times, students gain the knowledge well but miss points easily. I recommend to do some past exams during the tutorial and I would explain why the marks are lost.
