| Personal Description: I am married and have a 2 year old son, we have recently relocated to Chester. I have a PGCE in Science, a Degree in Environmental Science, and A-Levels in Physics, Biology and Chemistry. I have 10 years teaching experience, have worked as a Head of Subject for 6 years, and have led my Faculty in coursework moderation. I have also been learning Spanish at a night class, so I can still remember what it is like to be a student. |
Teaching Experience: I have 10 years teaching experience, and have taught Years 7 to 13 (with the bulk of my teaching in Years 12 and 13). I have also tutored a number of other students through A-Levels and GCSEs. I have recently relocated to Chester, but prior to this I worked in 2 schools in Essex, where I became Head of Biology. I have been successfully through two OFSTED inspections, and have been a mentor to a number of trainee teachers. |
Tutoring Approach: I like to make links between Science and modern culture. Many aspects of Science make it into films and the media, and these provide focal points for discussions (whether the Science is correct or not!). I believe that this makes the content more applicable and memorable. As a practicing teacher, I have a good knowledge of the Science curriculum, and am also aware of misconceptions shown by many students. I try to address these areas, in addition to the areas requested by the tutee. I like to use Powerpoint presentations during tutoring. These Powerpoints are linked to the National Curriculum and offer visual stimuli and multimedia resources. |

| Personal Description: I love all the main subjects in a proper curriculum! I was originally born in Canada, and have been living in the UK for twenty-three years (my parents brought me over as a teenager). I went to a Canadian high-school, took GSCE maths and A levels in North Wales, and went on to study in Manchester. I am a real teacher! I am fascinated with teaching a subject in the most effective way, whatever the level. This includes such ideas as student motivation and hierarchical order of subject matter. I think that there is such a thing as a teaching personality and that the essential qualities are benevolence, charisma, and humour; I have these qualities. I find it easy to befriend my students, gain their trust, while still keeping a pleasant, authoritative detachment. I like children: I am charmed by their enthusiasm, openness, and receptiveness. |
Teaching Experience: I have been a tutor for the past eleven years. In terms of classroom experience, I have held positions in Montessori schools (nursery), and have been a substitute teacher (or "cover supervisor") covering all subjects in English comprehensive schools. |
Tutoring Approach: The idea of hierarchy is essential to my teaching. One must learn from the concrete to the abstract in order to have one's knowledge grounded in reality, as opposed to disjointed, floating ideas. The subject of history, aside from being an essential subject in itself, is a helpful pedagogical tool. History provides a natural hierarchy for the learning of mathematics and the sciences. History also provides a background and context for the appreciation of literature. |

| Personal Description: I am a 2:1 graduate in Forensic Science from the University of Kent, with a strong formation in all the sciences, as well as the ability to see and convey practical applications to the sciences.French for all my life, I am also half French, speaking it fluently as a native speaker. Having studied French for all my life, and having studied the sciences for six years, I feel that I am skilled enough to pass the knowledge onto others |
Teaching Experience: During my Sixth Form years, I did pro-bono tutoring of A-level French students, and as I actually took the A-level (AS and A2 was taken in the same year, of my 3rd year of sixth form) I also acted as an unofficial classroom assistant. I have also taught my university peers some of the harder concepts of forensic science. |
Tutoring Approach: I think it is extremely important to tailor the tutoring to the needs of the individual student, and to be as engaging and interesting with them as possible, while still pushing them, so that they can make the best of their education. I stongly believe that prior to any tutoring taking place, a totor should establish exactly what a tutee desires out of it, and to establish the way they learn and their grasp of the subject, so that they can get the maximum value. |

| Personal Description: I am a 22 year old student, currently undertaking my final year of an Engineering degree at the University of Leeds. I have an unyielding thirst for knowledge which drives me to delve into new areas of learning all the time. I hope to embark upon a PGCE in Secondary Teaching in September with a view to obtaining Qualified Teacher Status to teach either Science or Maths at GCSE and A Level. |
Teaching Experience: Since my late teens, I have mainly taught the guitar and music theory. I have taught pupils of a very wide age range from 8-21 and developed a good understanding of how to convey concepts and information to someone without being condescending or patronising. I was doing this as a full-time income prior to arriving at university and have kept it up on a smaller scale since. Since then I have helped many friends with gaps in their knowledge to aid them in their degree studies, and I now wish to pursue this as a career move once more. I feel that the communication skills I have gained from previous teaching coupled with my firm understanding of secondary level maths and physics will help me to effectively and successfully pass on that knowledge to other people. |
Tutoring Approach: As a tutor, my job is to pass on knowledge, to educate, and to aid understanding. It is not my job to mould a child, to patronise them, or in any way reign over them. I have a relaxed teaching style, which allows a child to see me as more of a peer or friends, rather than a superior. On this foundation of mutual respect I feel I can effectively promote enthusiasm for the topic, and a stress free path to understanding. |

| Personal Description: I read Engineering at Cambridge followed by a PhD in Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial College. I have experience in both private tuitions and university teaching. I am now working for an engineering firm in Oxfordshire. |
Teaching Experience: Previous tutoring experience in Maths and Physics at various levels (including tutoring within university). No formal qualifications. In possession of Enhanced Disclosure. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that the private tuition should tackle individual needs and requirements of the tutee. Hence I am flexible in my approach depending on the tutee. I tend to use the first couple of lessons to gauge the tutee's level of interest. In general, I aim to strengthen the tutee's fundamental understanding so that he/she can adapt to different problems easily. |

| Personal Description: I'm studying for a BA in Philosophy at the University of Cambridge, but I'm currently taking a year out. I'm eager to do tutoring in the meantime, and am considering a career in teaching. I have an avid interest in the sciences, as well as in philosophy, and am therefore offering GCSE-level tuition in chemistry, physics and maths (at varying rates according to the extent of my qualifications). My experience of tutoring is fairly wide-ranging, and I have an excellent success rate in helping my students to achieve their desired grades. |
Teaching Experience: I've taught students of a variety of ages and abilities, from basic KS3 French, through GCSE (Higher) Science, to AS level Maths and A-level Philosophy. I think that this has provided me with a good understanding of the needs of different students, and has allowed me to tailor my teaching style to each individual. I also have experience of tutoring small groups of GCSE level pupils, and I taught GCSE Maths for six weeks at the Open Academy in Norwich. |
Tutoring Approach: I don't have a "set approach" to tutoring- I think it is of utmost importance to consider the individual requirements of the student. I therefore offer sessions of varying lengths according to the wishes of the students, and discuss the aims of their tuition in the first session. After the first lesson, I compile a rough plan of work for future sessions, in accordance with the information given by the student. I generally favour a personal approach- verbal discussion of issues/arguments (in Philosophy) and problems (in Sciences), rather than endlessly setting exercises. I do, however, have access to various resources, and use these to supplement discussion where appropriate. I often set a small amount of "homework" to consolidate the work we've done in a session, but this will be discussed with the student. I've had very positive feedback on my approach to tutoring, and I hope that all my students find me clear, friendly and helpful. |

| Personal Description: I am a science graduate (maths, physics, statistics),having masters degree in Economics. Teaching is always my field of interest that is why i adopted it as my career job. I am very much devoted to young children..I know how to handle them specially when they are studying. I am sympathetic loving and caring towards every child irrespective of gender, religion or race. Being a mother of two kids I know the importance of time and money spent for their education. I am a result oriented teacher with positive attitude. |
Teaching Experience: I am an experienced GCSE teacher having 14 years of home tuition.I have a good command over teaching different branches of science subjects specially in maths, physics and chemistry. |
Tutoring Approach: I myself highly regret tutoring because when parents are paying taxes it is the responsibility of school management only to provide full assistance to there pupil to gain full knowledge. Some how some children are back sitters in class rooms, slow learners or neglected by the teachers. It creates a problem for parents to look for a tutor as a helper , specially when they, themselves, have no full approach towards the subject . In this busy life parents are not able to spare time to teach their own kids. On other hand parents have great expectations from a tutor. In my opinion a good tutor should be caring, loving and time giving. He/she is responsible for the subject related problems without going deep in the family matters. |

| Personal Description: Hi, I'm Kate and I have a BSc in Earth System Science from Keele university. I love my subjects, and study a wide range of Earth sciences. With this background, i look a lot at the links between disciplines, how everything works together, the big picture. This perspective can bring subjects that at first seem flat and uninteresting to life, by relating them to their wider contexts. I have travelled studying through Iceland and Italy, as well as around the UK. |
Teaching Experience: I occasionally sit with first year university students and help them work through their modules, as well as leading study groups. I also spend a lot of time with adult friends from other disciplines, helping to explain topics such as climate change, or volcanism. I also run educational workshops in local high schools, teaching market economics, entrepreneurship and business skills. |
Tutoring Approach: My education has led me always to look at the relationships between areas of study, for instance, the ocean has currents and the atmosphere has currents, but how do these affect one another? or how does volcanism affect climate change? Being able to relate an area of study to the world around it is a real passion of mine, and i believe that it reinforces a topic from many angles, and can really bring it to life. |

| Personal Description: I am currently a postgraduate student at the University of Manchester doing MSc in Quantitative Finance and a graduate of BSc Electrical Engineering. I secured straight A's in A-levels as well as my GCSEs. I have an open, friendly personality and I teach out of my passion for it. |
Teaching Experience: I have provided private tuition during my undergraduate studies for a period of one year, back in my home country. I taught GCSE Physics and Chemistry and grade 6 to 8 Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology and English. |
Tutoring Approach: I am flexible to adapt my teaching style to the requirement of the student. Being a student myself, I easily relate to my students and know how to address most of their problems. I am willing to put in extra time in order to clarify concepts and do not hesitate if I myself face a problem that I am not able to solve. I teach out of a passion for it and do not view it as any other 'job'. While maintaining an amicable relation with my student, I do not compromise on discipline and wasting time. |

| Personal Description: I graduated from Cambridge University with a 2:1 in Pharmacology, and am now studying at Imperial College London for a Master's Degree by Research in Cancer Biology. I enjoy sport and reading. |
Teaching Experience: I have experience teaching GCSE Science and Maths, and A-Level Biology on a one-to-one basis. I also hold a black belt in Shotokan karate and have gained teaching experience through this. |
Tutoring Approach: I prefer to explain a principle with a student first, checking that they understand at various points and emphasising that they should stop and ask questions at any point. I then ask the student to explain, from the beginning, whatever the area may have been, in order to further confirm understanding. I also work through exam and textbook questions with the student, offering hints and answers as and when necessary. |

| Personal Description: I am 41 years of age, married and hold a first class degree in physics from the University of Surrey. I'm also a Chartered Physicist and currently work for a major technology and research company. Since graduating I have worked in industry in a variety of technical fields including software, nuclear fusion and sonar. Having experienced how science works in the real world I feel in a strong position to pass my knowledge and understanding on to others. I am pleased to offer tuition in physics (GCSE and AS/A2) and maths (GCSE and AS). My hobbies include running, playing the viola and visiting New Zealand (sadly not as often as I would like!). |
Teaching Experience: I have been providing private tuition in maths and physics for two years. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is to ensure that sessions are interactive and enjoyable. I make sure that my students understand the fundamental principles behind the material, this then makes the subsequent detail much easier to comprehend and remember. For specific exam preparation I believe the best strategy is to work through past paper questions. |

| Personal Description: I am 19 years old and thoroughly enjoy working alongside other people. My years in the Combined Cated Force, which included a course in leadership skills, have taught me to lead teams effectively, as did my Scuba experiences as a BSAC Dive Leader and PADI Open Water Diver. I am interested in art/design but am also competent in maths and physics. From september I will be reading Natural Sciences at UCL and plan to follow up with postgraduate study in Industrial Design; my dual-abilities in art and science allow me to deliver well-rounded tuition. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught students in my local area maths and art, ranging from 8 to 17 years of age. Furthermore, as a corporal in the CCF I led numerous outdoor activities, taking charge of groups of younger students. Also, as a BSAC Dive Leader I have acquainted numerous students with both basic theory and practice of Scuba diving, as well as leading decompression dives in the ocean. From this I have learnt to teach students younger, older and my own age effectively. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach is very direct; though it sounds simple I tend not to set hundreds of examples but instead explain the topics clearly. Sometimes I go into greater detail than the sylabus 'requires', as it is far better for the student to understand what is going on rather than recite equations; ultimately they will do better in exams. |

| Personal Description: I'm a very positive, friendly ambitious, and enthusiastic individual committed to working hard and acting on my own initiative. I have the ability to relate to and build a rapport with a wide range of people as is evident from both my studies at university, and work experience activities. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught my nieces, and tutor them on a weekly basis. I teach them Chemistry. They are aged 12, and 13. When I was at high school, I used to listen to the children in nursery read, and help supervise them during classes. |
Tutoring Approach: I like to find out as much as possible how much the tutee knows regarding the topic, and where they struggle. I will focus on the parts they do not understand as much, and explain to them as simply as possibly what the topic is about by using diagrams if necessary. I will refer them to textbooks if necessary. I will then test them at the end, by asking questions to see if they have really understood. I will end the session by asking if they have any questions they may still have |
