I am an accomplished landscape photographer and an experienced photography tutor. I have a relaxed, easy-going manner and am very good at putting learners at their ease. My ability to explain things in jargon-free, easy-to-understand ways is particularly appreciated by beginners. I am a family man, with three sons in their late teens/early twenties.

Teaching Experience:

I regularly teach photography courses for Jessops and other clients, but I am also available for private bookings either to deliver small group courses or one-to-one tuition. I have also taught Employment Law at University level, and earned a Teaching Excellence award for my ability to explain complex topics in simple ways.

Tutoring Approach:

I avoid jargon where possible, and like to use a hands-on approach, making sure my students learn by doing and gain confidence in their own ability to get the best out of their camera.

Personal Description:
I am an MA Digital Media Arts student at the University of Brighton. I have four years experience as a full time teacher of ICT at secondary level and above. I have four years experience as a part time teacher of Photography at GCSE level. I have several years of private tutoring experience in ICT, Business Studies and Sciences, Photoshop and Photography. In most cases I have lifted the grades of the student by at least one grade after private tuition. I have over 30 years of professional IT experience.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught ICT full time for 4 years as well as some part time tutoring. My last A level student who I tutored achieved an A grade and when I started he was around a C grade. I have training in the Edexcel GCSE 2010 ICT Curriculum and also in the OCR Applied ICT A level curriculum.

Previously I have taught GCSE Photography and I was a professional tennis coach part time for 9 years.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to find the areas that the student is having trouble with and zone in on those first, we can clear up a lot in a very short space of time and I always use plenty of examples and so on to help them understand and apply the data. I never move on unless I am sure they have achieved an adequate understanding. I move at the pace of the student but I also have a great belief that everyone can learn, and I aim to bring out their own inner belief and excellence.

Personal Description:
I am a professional artist and qualified teacher, having completed a PGCE in 2007. Since then I have continually taught in a variety of roles. Before becoming a full-time artist again, I was Head of Art at a small sixth form in central London for two years. I have also taught at the London College of Fashion for the past eight years as an associate lecturer on various courses, I have amassed considerable experience of devising tailored lesson plans for different age groups, abilities and interests. I am a positive and pro-active teacher, and attach great importance to making art accessible, rewarding and fun for students.

As an artist I am committed to furthering my painting practice in my studio and also enjoy experimenting with alternative photographic techniques in the darkroom. In 2014, my work has been selected to be shown in the Threadneedle Prize exhibition.

Teaching Experience:

My specialist teaching area is drawing and painting, although I have a broad range of technical skills that also encompass printmaking, 3D and photographic processes. My experience of working in the creative industries spans both the fine and applied arts sectors, and the same is true of my teaching experience. I have taught, photography, fashion illustration, illustration and contextual studies, as well as fine art, on a range of courses.

I taught A-Level Fine Art and Photography for three years (2011-14) and have previously helped students dramatically improve their grades when they have retaken their A-levels as an intensive course. Students have gone from a D to an A grade and a U to a B and as a result have been able to go on and study at the university of their choice.

My AS, A2 and GCSE students have achieved great results and the individuality and standard of the work has been praised by external moderators. At the London College of Fashion, I worked on the UAL Art and Design Foundation Course, helping students prepare their portfolios for degree applications. I have a proven record of students successfully going on to being accepted onto their first choice of course at a range of institutions. Admissions tutors on the Foundation and BA courses my students have applied for have commented on work made during my classes as being of a high quality and imaginative.

Tutoring Approach:

I am interesting in enabling students to create work that is personal and meaningful to them, as well as showing them a wide variety of approaches, skills and techniques to best express their ideas. I have a positive and encouraging approach and also enjoy building students' confidence so they can take creative risks and fulfil their potential.

Personal Description:
A computer science graduate and former software engineer that got out of the 'rat-race' in 2001 to develop my then hobby teaching martial arts into a professional career. I now run a very successful Academy teaching martial arts, self protection, and personal development to students of all ages.

Having established the school I had the time to develop my photography to the point when in 2011 I gained a distinction from the Royal Photographic Society, and now I also spend some of my time as a professional photographer too, focussing mainly on teaching others, both individuals and group workshops.

Teaching Experience:

General:
In my former career as a software developer I was also responsible for writing technical documentation and running training courses worldwide. I'm very comfortable with planning, organising and delivering courses up to a very high standard.

Photography:
As a photographer I have been teaching now for about 5 years, I run workshops for all levels, and also individual one-to-one training tailored to students from complete novices up to those approaching Royal Society standard.

Martial Arts:
I'm a high-ranking martial arts instructor (6th degree black belt with 30 years experience) and have been teaching now for well over 20 years, with students of all ages from 5 up to those in their 60's. Alongside my own school I teach courses and seminars to groups of all sizes. I've taught in schools, worked with police and youth groups etc. I often teach private lessons to individuals, both from my own school and those with no prior experience.

Life Coaching:
Having successfully escaped the rat-race to pursue my own goals it's fair to say I've learned a lot about personal development. I've also completed a number of courses and seminars with world-class coaches such as Anthony Robbins. I now share this experience with a number of private clients for personal development and life coaching to help them with motivation, goals and productivity in their own careers.

I have a current DBS (CRB) check and can provide references relating to all aspects of my coaching.

Tutoring Approach:

Friendly, informal and always tailored to the specific needs of the individual.

Happy to chat about your individual requirements prior to booking so please get in touch with any questions :-)

If you're looking for photography, business or personal development coaching I'm happy to chat on the phone, skype or obviously to meet in person (I do charge travelling if you're not coming to me).

Self defence coaching obviously needs to be in person, and there are with minimum training requirements to ensure we can cover enough basic skills.

Teaching Experience:

The one thing that irritated me most throughout education was the heavy work loads and pressure you're given - at a young age this can be a very stressful time. I believe that the key to a students learning is to take things step by step, working on smaller pieces of work at a time and working slowly up to bigger loads of work. I aim to provide a fun teaching experience and aim to assist with students learning development.

In addition to tutoring sessions I can provide help and assistance via email and can also provide online tutoring (at a fee) via Skype messaging service. Parents or guardians of pupils at a younger age can contact me at any time and I will keep in close contact to ensure the parent(s)/guardian(s) and student feels happy and positive with the development.

Tutoring Approach:

I find the most import aspect of tutoring is to work out what the student needs help with most. It's about working in steps and ensuring the pupil learns more and more from each step. There is no pressure and due to not long having left education I understand most how frustrating education can be at a young age. I apply a fun and calm style to tutoring and ensure the pupil is happy at all times.

Personal Description:
I've always given science talks to local societies, charity groups etc. from an early age. I worked on two summer camps in the USA, looking after children aged 11-15, teaching them science and photography. During my time studying, I began teaching Astronomy GCSE and beginner's classes for Adult Education. I studied for a BSc (Hons) and Masters in Earth Sciences and Geography. During this time I was often asked to be a part-time lecturer and demonstrator. After two graduations, I became a University Lecturer and taught at two Universities, for 8 years. I then went into the commercial world of Earth Sciences and became a Professional Trainer to adults in the industry. During this time, I was still giving lectures and talks in my free time, on Astronomy, Space and Earth Science. I've tutored one-to-one (both adults and children) and given online courses, since becoming a qualified online trainer in 2013.

In recent years I have developed my knowledge in world religions and religious studies, and am now an active member of my local inter faith group, for whom I have also given talks and attended outreach events.

I continue to take part in outreach events for astronomy and am currently involved in planning for Stargazing Live 2015, where we take the night sky to parents and kids in the local areas.

Teaching Experience:

It was a fantastic experience to work with children in a teaching role on a summer camp - I must have liked it as I went back five years later to do it again!

For Adult Education, I designed the Beginner's Astronomy course and had much fun teaching adults.

For 5 years as a Lecturer at the University of Bergen, I was teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students and helping to run the Geography-based courses (GIS, Geographical Information Systems - Geography with computers). I also ran the IT lab. I proof read many theses of students and colleagues including PhD level.

For the 3 years I worked as a Lecturer with the University of Greenwich, I was MSc Programme Leader and ran the GIS MSc (Geography, Geology) and taught at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Since then, in my role as a GIS Trainer to the Geoscience world, I have trained over 1000 professionals.

Recently I have been giving one-to-one tuition in Geography, Chemistry for GCSE.

Tutoring Approach:

People who see me teach or have had my tuition say I am a good tutor and many of the testimonials from my professional (adult) tutoring can be seen on my business website pages. Some of the things I have been told by other professionals observing me tutoring/teaching: I get the tutee to do the work by showing them and not doing it for them (so they can learn); I don't go at 100 miles an hour; I have a good style that is patient and enthusiastic. My approach to all tutoring/teaching applies both to children and adults: break it down into a method or steps; make it relevant; make it interesting; stay enthusiastic!

Please give me a call and we can discuss your child's study needs.

Personal Description:
I am currently on a gap year from the University of Glasgow to gain experience within schools to achieve my goal of being a fully qualified teacher. I am a very organised, sociable person who always invests time into people to achieving their goals. I am a very determined person who will commit to the job at hand and will not give up until the target is reached. I adore animals and am a very family orientated person meaning I have a very caring, sensitive nature.

Teaching Experience:

I have had degree level qualification but never officially graduated in Bachelor of Education Studies. (I changed my degree to History of Art and decided to take a PGCE after obtaining that degree). During those two years, I regularly met with a child I was assigned who had Autism and would discuss his interests and talk to his parents concerning the little boys progression in a mainstream school. I have also volunteered on school trips at local primary schools where I was responsible for teaching and supervising the children on the 'forest trip'. I am also a class rep at my university which requires a certain percentage of teaching other students what I learnt on a one to one basis with the lecturers. I have also taught adults with special needs in an extra curricular activity to paint alongside a fully qualified art teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a relaxed tutor but will enforce strict goals and targets if the student does not show signs of progressing. I prefer a relaxed and fun approach to studying, such as creating games that interlink with the topic studying. An upbeat, high energetic atmosphere is usually the mood required however, for more shy, inward students a more quiet, slow integrative setting can be used so it would not be as overwhelming.
