Personal Description:
I am a postgraduate from the Documentary Photography course at Univeristy of Wales, Newport (graduated in 2000). I have worked as a professional freelance photographer since graduating giving photography classes, workshops and conferences to students of all levels and ages. I have extensive experience a reportage photographer, not only in undertaking magazine assignments but also wedding and portrait work. As a photographer and tutor I can offer an in-depth knowledge of darkroom practice as well as digital software editing(i.e. Photoshop, Capture One Pro, Lightroom), having worked both with film and digital media for the past 15 years.

Teaching Experience:

I have over ten years experience in giving photography classes and workshops to young learners (residential camps giving classes to children aged 11-16 years of age) and adults at all levels and abilities. I have taught an extensive range of photographic genres e.g Portraits, Studio Flash, Landscape, Creative Photography, Night Photography, Creating A Narrative(Reportage) and Wedding Photography.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is contextual and task based. I plan and work to the individual needs of the pupil(s), making sure that the classes are fun, interesting and relaxed. I believe with these elements the student feels more stimulated and the information in the learning process is absorbed more easily. One important factor is to concentrate on the student's individual learning potential by giving them confidence and positive feedback throughout the lessons. I can also use such tools as Skype and a whiteboard to provide online distance learning, when travel is not possible for myself or the learner.

Personal Description:
I am only taking on a small number of students this year. I do my best work with gifted and talented students who have had emotional problems in the school setting or who are not being stretched enough at school.

My background in psychotherapy and counselling helps me build rapport and bring out the best in students who have had emotional problems at school.

I am concerned with education of the whole person, rather than cramming in knowledge just to get through that exam.

I teach poetry at the Ashmolean Museum, a branch of Oxford University, and bring a depth of understanding to my work with people from nine to ninety. I have four grown up children.

I have worked in 3 of the four top universities in the UK. Since retirement l keep my hand in as an occasional supply teacher to local schools in English, drama, music and psychology.

Teaching Experience:

BA Hons. PGCE 1974. I have taught in primary and secondary schools, as well as sixth form colleges and universities, including Oxford and the London School of Economics.. I have also taught in private schools and been a director of a school of counselling and psychotherapy. I have taught psychology at Abingdon and Witney College, and poetry in many Oxfordshire Schools. I teach poetry short courses for Oxford University at the Ashmolean museum. I teach both GCSE and IGCSE courses.

Tutoring Approach:

I will always do my best to help a student improve their exam performance, using my wide knowledge of psychology and counselling/coaching skills, as well as my subject knowledge. I most enjoy working with students who want to gain a deeper understanding of their subjects that will be of use to them in their real lives, rather than just to get through an exam. I am very good at building a rapport with students, and finding a way to bring the best out of their skill set.

Personal Description:
I am a highly trained, experienced, self motivated and flexible individual with excellent organisational/interpersonal and communication skills, able to operate at all levels, with students from all backgrounds and nationalities.
I began my Photographic career over twenty years ago, then slowly slipped into Film making as a natural progression.
I have shot photographic projects and films all over the world, and have been an ambassador representing several schools, colleges and universities whilst involved in this work.

Teaching Experience:

I have over twenty years of Photography and Film making experience, working abroad to shoot several short films in Prague, Paris, Africa and China. I have worked with both African and Chinese students in their countries, shooting a variety of Photographic and Film projects, having spent three months, and one month in these respective countries.

I have over twenty years of teaching/training experience in various establishments, Schools, Colleges, Universities, and with various council's throughout the Midlands. I have over twenty years of experience of dealing with a wide variety of students , from various backgrounds. I have worked with students of all ages, from primary school, to adult students in their eighties!
I have worked with people from mental health units, drug rehabilitation centres, and the probation services, using the creative media and arts as a form of therapy to bring about positive change.

Over twenty years of writing and delivering bespoke re-engagement training courses in a wide variety of areas (including photography, film making, digital imaging, film and media studies, literacy, numeracy, preparation for work training, CV writing, personal motivation and decision making), to disenfranchised, marginalised students.

Excellent computer/I.T. skills using a wide range of high end/professional software for video editing, image manipulation and audio visual presentations/performances.
Extensive experience of curriculum development, development of schemes of work, child protection policies, professional practices, and internal verification of work using assessment criteria from a multitude of awarding bodies.
I have been associated with UK Tutors since 2005.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is a very relaxed, informal one, giving the student ample opportunity to attempt things for themselves, and to allow them to flex their own creative and mental muscles with support and guidance where necessary.
Students are allowed to be themselves, feel relaxed , comfortable, to be able to make mistakes, without the pressure of being surrounded by or judged by their peers.
I often use projects to reinforce creative ideas or techniques, so that students begin to create their own portfolio's of their photographic work or video clips that they can use to create a show reel.

Personal Description:
Based in York, I'm an obsessive photographer, specialising in weddings and landscape, but covering a wide range of photographic projects, including commercial assignments, stock photos, and fashion.

Teaching Experience:

I have tought IT and photography for many years. My aim is to provide those new to photography with the basic skills and understanding they need in order to take control, and start creating images, rather than taking snapshots.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a naturally informal and friendly stlye (essential for good wedding photography!). Group sessions are limited to just 4 (some workshops have 10 or more). This allows for a great deal of hands on support.
I also do a lot of 1 to 1 tuituion sessions, which are tailored to each individual.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified secondary school art teacher, and university lecturer in History of Art. I completed my PhD in History of Art at University College London (UCL) in 2013. I have published my research in a number of academic journals and edited book collections, and I am currently a Research Fellow at Cornell University Society for the Humanities, USA.

I'm currently based in the United States until December 12th 2016, and I'm presently offering Skype tutorials only until this time. As of December 12th - January 13th I will be based in Hulme, Manchester and can travel up to 20 miles from the city centre, or meet students at my central Manchester art studio. I'm available for Skype appointments at any time, taking into account the time difference.

Teaching Experience:

I am a fully trained secondary school teacher, specialising in Art & Design and Photography at KS3, KS4 & KS5. I have 10 years teaching experience, including working as a specialist Learning Support Teacher, and in Special Needs schools catering for children and young adults with a range of special educational needs, from moderate learning difficulties to profound and multiple disabilities.

I have particular expertise in studio practice (art and design), digital and darkroom photography (theory, history and practice), literacy, social and vocational skills, as well as History of Art, Anthropology and History of Medicine at undergraduate level.

I am also experienced in teaching at undergraduate level, having taught gallery-based first year History of Art courses, for University College London's History of Art Department, and on the History of Art degree programme at the University of Manchester.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a one-to-one, flexible approach to learning and teaching, which first establishes the needs and goals of the student, and then sets out clearly structured strategies for achieving these goals. These may be results-focused when preparing for exams, or aimed at developing a broader understanding of a subject area, depending upon the student's own priorities. I am happy to work with any course materials the student may provide, and I am familiar with all current GCSE and A Level syllabuses. I am able to guide both GCSE and A Level students through their studies, offering consistent, dedicated 1-2-1 tuition for the full term of the course. I can also provide practical tuition for students who are preparing their art portfolios for University submission, and can offer assistance with UCAS forms and references for students who undertake long-term A Level tuition with me.

Tutoring may take place at the student's home, or at my art studio in central Manchester, where I can provide a range of art materials and resources by prior arrangement, for more intensive practical art sessions. Please note that I can travel within 20 miles of central Manchester based on the fee structure quoted below, travelling further will incur a small additional fuel fee.

I have had recent successes with my private students, one of whom attended one-to-one sessions at my Manchester studio for 8 weeks and improved her predicted GCSE Art result of a B by two grades, achieving an A* in her final art exam. My most recent undergraduate students have also attained First class results in their undergraduate degrees. One student achieved a high score of 78 on her History of Art dissertation project with intensive tutorial support conducted via Skype; and another progressed from a fail during the first year of his Visual Communication degree, to a First class final result in his third year, following 2 years of regular commitment to one-to-one tutoring.

*Please note that due to the time-intensive nature of undergraduate level tutoring, I am only able to take on a maximum of three undergraduate tutees at any given time. Please see below for my current availability for tutoring at this level.*

I am currently tutoring ONE undergraduate student.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

University Undergraduate Level:

"I wanted a tutor to give me help and advice on my undergraduate history of art dissertation. I needed reassurance that what I was writing was okay and some one to proof read and give me their opinion on my arguments. Gemma was brilliant, she gave me the confidence that I needed to keep going with my dissertation by reassuring me that I was on the right track. She discussed my ideas with me in detail, proof read all of my work and suggested and sourced articles that I might want to have a look at. I have recently graduated from Newcastle University with a First in History of Art and Media and I know that I owe Gemma a huge thank you for the support she gave me on the way to achieving this."

Personal Description:
Ben is a technically and artistically accomplished in portraiture photography and been quoted by professors at a university as a master in the studio. He love's to make the photos encapsulate you and who you want to be. Ben strives to capture the details and emotions that would go together to make your time with me an enjoyable experience.
Ben is a social person and loves to get to know the people he works for, so he can really reflect their character and what they want, so to produce the highest quality work for and give them exactly what they are after. Ben aims to spend time chatting with you in advance so that your time with me is so much more productive.
Ben grew up in West Africa where his parents worked amongst the poor coordinating small-scale development projects. This had a massive impact on his life and photographic practice affecting how he relates to the world around him. In his photographic work, he has taken a special interest in reflecting stories and voices through his images. For example, he travelled in Uganda and Thailand and used photography to be the 'voice' of the people he photographed.
Although Ben's formative years were spent in Africa he was educated in Guildford, Surrey at George Abbot School that specialised in the expressive arts. During these years, his creative flare became more apparent when he took A-levels in Fine Art, Sculpture, and Photography. He progressed onto doing a Foundation Degree in Action Photography at Truro College where he specialised in Sport, the Natural world and Social Documentary and began to prepare for a more commercial direction. Ben still maintained his roots in expressive art during the foundation degree but also developed his technical skills thoroughly. Ben had the opportunity to be the photographer for 24/7 magazines in July 2008 at the Newquay Ripcurl Surfing Festival.
In 2009, he progressed on to Plymouth University to study for his BA Hons in Photography where he achieved a 2.1 studying under Stephen Vaughan and Dr. Simon Standing. During this course, he spent time looking intricately into the how we view our bodies and others around us. He concluded the year specializing in fine art nudes and portraiture, with a project called 'The Paradox of Perfect Beauty'. This study challenges the ideologies of beauty in history, sculpture, and figurative representation and critically analyzes the standardized figures and body shape used in art as well as in modern day commercial advertising, fashion and other types of portraiture. In the final exhibition, Ben aimed to present a personal discovery of body image and consequent self-affirmation. Ben was fortunate to be able to exhibit some of his work at the D & A D-New Blood Exhibition in London in June 2010.
Many photographers say they are good but even the perfect image that ben has he can still see my own flaws in you get the highest quality with me and won't be disappointed. In this digital age, many people can snap you but ben can give you an artistic flair, which is also of superior quality. He is sure that you will want to share the photographs he produces. Don't hesitate to contact me to discover more.

I also work in a apple shop in Guildford so can teach about apple products and how to use them both in conjunction with software like photoshop or one there own.

Personal Description:
I am a current student at the University of Bath and I am studying German and International Management. I tutor photographer to university students and work freelance as a portrait and product photographer. I studied maths, further maths, German and chemistry at A Level.

At GCSE I studied maths, statistics, German, chemistry, biology, physics, philosophy and ethics, English language, English literature, history and ICT. I gained 9 A* grades and 3 A grades in the summer of 2011.

Teaching Experience:

I tutored 6th grade maths (year 9) in Honduras and have taught German to casual learners. I teach photography at my university for the Photographic Society. During my GCSE years I tutored German and maths to fellow students and at university I tutored statistics for the management course.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that often it is simply a case of providing more individual attention that can really help a student. Through my previous tutoring experience I have found that one-on-ones where I walk the student through the way to solve a problem and find where they are having the most difficulty. Often it is a lack of confidence in their ability that is holding them back, and once a student gets past that they can find it a lot easier to understand new (and old) material!

Personal Description:
I am an Italian artist based in London, I graduated with Distinction from the MA programme at the Slade School of Fine Art and, since then, I have been working at research, installation, education and participation projects in the UK and internationally.
My practice relies on knowledge of a variety of media and materials, moving between traditional and experimental approaches: Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Photography, Digital Media and Installation. I ground my work in an extensive formation and vivid interest in the History and Theory of Art, and in the Humanities, with a focus on Languages, the Linguistic structures and Literature of my native Italian and English.
I offer private teaching of Art and art related subjects in English or Italian, as well as teaching Italian for speakers of other languages, especially through the exploration of Arts, Literature and culture.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching skills have been formed and enriched by a variety of experiences:

- over 7 years of one-to-one tutoring.
At all levels and specifically tailored for each pupil's needs, interests and characteristics. Can cover: Art, Contemporary Drawing and Painting, Life Drawing, Art Theory, English grammar and conversation for foreigners, Italian grammar, conversation and literature for foreigners, and general studying, writing, reading and speaking skills.

- 4 years of creating and delivering art workshops for children and young adults.
Working with schools, art institutions (recently: Wysing Arts Centre, Cambridge) and with the Arts Awards scheme by Trinity College London. My workshops on learning through imagination have found the support of an Incentive Award to the Art Practice by Brera Academy of Fine Art (2012).

- Adult art teaching, privately and in institutions (The Slade Summer School, Contemporary Portraiture Course, 2015)

- Art lecturing and presentations include A-levels Art students from Liceo Artistico Sacro Cuore, The Slade Summer Foundation students, Circuit Cambridge young people programme at Kettle's Yard and Wysing Arts Centre.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring builds upon my enthusiasm for sharing passion and knowledge, combined with high professional standards and knowledge of teaching methods. My teaching always tries to happen in relation to hands-on and on-the-field experiences, to procede breaking down and making sense the notions and concepts they make available. Seriousness, commitment and progress in learning thus go hand in hand with interest, curiosity and enjoyment.

Personal Description:
I have recently moved to Scotland from London with my partner who has taken up a lecturing job at Gray's school of art. I have been looking for work to support my practise as an artist.I came to Art in my 30's as a mature student via short courses. This form of education is a great way of developing artists through a different route than more traditional means while opening up opportunities to a diverse field of practitioners. I feel very passionate about education and how it has transformed my own life which has given me fantastic opportunities that I could never have thought of.

My own work involves an idea of process and gesture through the daily practise of being an artist.
I paint tools that I have used in my job as a gardener which has funded my practise. I paint these with either close observation or purely from memory. I continue this with large scale paper relief drawings which I have displayed in shop windows, mud walls in Morocco with chalk and charcoal, and more traditional gallery spaces. With these I explore the relationship between the hand and the eye, nature and culture, the raw and the cooked and how this dichotomy exists in the historical and contemporary art. For example I am interested in the Gesture of the hand in Velazquez, Titian and Tintoretto as apposed to established Renaissance painting which where drawn and then filled with colour. I see a mirror to this in more conceptual art such as Art and Language or Sol Le Witt compared to a gestural painters such as Philip Guston, Morandi or Joan Mitchell.

I am Recent graduate of the slade MFA program and I have been consistently exhibiting since such as the Creekside open selected by Richard Deacon/Lisa Milroy, the BFA futures, and currently at York College and the Zetta Hotel in Clarkenwell. I have also been establishing a drawing and painting workshop at Marymount International school and have given talks on my work and the benefits of doing an MA.

Teaching Experience:

Present- Gray's School of Art 'Foundation Portfolio Plus'.(Short Courses)

2016- Marymount International School, 'Drawing from a Personal Object' workshop, ongoing.
Working with a class of 25 students i worked with an idea of using a personal object as a subject while exploring the idea of memory and observation with gesture of the hand.

2015- Kingston University, MA presentation
Before a class of third year degree students I gave a presentation of my work which, explained how doing an MA had influenced and changed my work. I also focussed the talk on application and interview techniques and guides.

Awards
2015 The Desiree Prize for Painting
2015 Nominated for the Land Securities Studio Award
2015 The Bergman Residency, Taroudant, Morocco
2012 The AP Fitzpatrick Prize for Painting

Tutoring Approach:

I believe drawing to be at the basis of all work. I see having a firm grasp of drawing from life as a key skill behind any artistic endeavour.

My own skills include:

Drawing and painting.
Oil, acrylic and watercolour techniques, uses and preparation
Extensive knowledge of grounds, substrates and supports.
Working with clay, wood and metal
Photography and documentation of work by with Photoshop and a DSLR
Bronze Casting
Current issues and developments in contemporary art
Developing ideas through practice and research into finished work.
Application and interview techniques including portfolio preparation.

Personal Description:
I completed my PhD in History of Art at University College London (UCL) in 2013. I have published my research in a number of academic journals and edited book collections, and I am a practicing artist, currently based in Hulme, Manchester. I am also currently a Junior Research Fellow at University College London's Institute of Advanced Studies.

I'm based in London Monday-Wednesday and can meet students within 10 miles of UCL's Bloomsbury campus (WC1E 6BT) on these days. From Thursday-Sunday I'm based in Hulme, Manchester and can travel up to 20 miles from the city centre, or meet students at my central Manchester art studio. I'm available for Skype appointments at any time.

Teaching Experience:

I am a fully trained secondary school teacher, specialising in Art & Design and Photography at KS3, KS4 & KS5. I have 9 years teaching experience, including working as a specialist Learning Support Teacher, and in Special Needs schools catering for children and young adults with a range of special educational needs, from moderate learning difficulties to profound and multiple disabilities.

My most recent undergraduate student also attained a First overall in her History of Art degree, achieving a high score of 78 on her dissertation project, with intensive tutorial support conducted via Skype.

GCSE Level:

A Level:

I am a passionate photographer with 25 years experience based in York, North Yorkshire. I specialise in portraits, documentary, editorial and event photography. I try to evoke and capture a mood within my pictures, a feeling a unique moment, creating images that have impact. I love to work with people, and I like to be able to build up a close rapport with all the clients that I work with.

Teaching Experience:

I hold a Further and Adult Education teaching certificate, I taught on the Access to Photography, at Newcastle College. There I identified individual learning needs, facilitated learning through presentations, activities, instruction and demonstrations. I designed and developed training sessions, assessed student performance, and evaluated training and development for students of all ages.

I have continued to develop my teaching and training working with primary level children in Photography, web design, animation and multimedia. I also teach photography workshops to all levels and am currently teaching on a individual basis , one to one.

Tutoring Approach:

I really value being able to pass on the knowledge that I have gained and thoroughly enjoy the challenges of teaching and the pleasure and joy that someone has when they have understood that knowledge and are able to then put that into practice. I like to be able to tear down the barriers that cause us to feel intimidated and take away those fears and insecurities that can make learning difficult.
