Personal Description:
I am an MA Digital Media Arts student at the University of Brighton. I have four years experience as a full time teacher of ICT at secondary level and above. I have four years experience as a part time teacher of Photography at GCSE level. I have several years of private tutoring experience in ICT, Business Studies and Sciences, Photoshop and Photography. In most cases I have lifted the grades of the student by at least one grade after private tuition. I have over 30 years of professional IT experience.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught ICT full time for 4 years as well as some part time tutoring. My last A level student who I tutored achieved an A grade and when I started he was around a C grade. I have training in the Edexcel GCSE 2010 ICT Curriculum and also in the OCR Applied ICT A level curriculum.

Previously I have taught GCSE Photography and I was a professional tennis coach part time for 9 years.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to find the areas that the student is having trouble with and zone in on those first, we can clear up a lot in a very short space of time and I always use plenty of examples and so on to help them understand and apply the data. I never move on unless I am sure they have achieved an adequate understanding. I move at the pace of the student but I also have a great belief that everyone can learn, and I aim to bring out their own inner belief and excellence.

Personal Description:
I recently completed my PhD in History of Art at University College London (UCL). I have published my research in a number of academic journals and edited book collections, and I am a practicing artist, currently based in Hulme, Manchester.

Teaching Experience:

I am a fully trained secondary school teacher, specialising in Art & Design and Photography at KS3, KS4 & KS5. I have 8 years teaching experience, including working as a specialist Learning Support Teacher, and in Special Needs schools catering for children and young adults with a range of special educational needs, from moderate learning difficulties to profound and multiple disabilities.

I have particular expertise in studio practice (art and design), digital and darkroom photography (theory, history and practice), literacy, social and vocational skills, as well as History of Art, Anthropology and History of Medicine at undergraduate level.

I am also experienced in teaching at undergraduate level, having taught gallery-based first year History of Art courses, for University College London's History of Art Department. I am also currently teaching part time at the University of Manchester on the History of Art degree programme.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a one-to-one, flexible approach to learning and teaching, which first establishes the needs and goals of the student, and then sets out clearly structured strategies for achieving these goals. These may be results-focused when preparing for exams, or aimed at developing a broader understanding of a subject area, depending upon the student's own priorities. I am happy to work with any course materials the student may provide, and I am familiar with all current GCSE and A Level syllabuses. I am able to guide A Level students through their AS or A Level studies as private candidates if this is preferred, offering consistent, dedicated 1-2-1 tuition for the full term of the course, and arranging exam entry with an appropriate local college or sixth form. I can also provide practical tuition for students who are preparing their art portfolios for University submission.

Tutoring may take place at the student's home, or at my art studio in central Manchester, where I can provide a range of art materials and resources by prior arrangement, for more intensive practical art sessions. Please note that I can travel within 20 miles of central Manchester based on the fee structure quoted below, travelling further will incur a small additional fuel fee.

I have had recent successes with my private students, one of whom attended one-to-one sessions at my Manchester studio for 8 weeks and improved her predicted GCSE Art result of a B by two grades, achieving an A* in her final art exam. My most recent undergraduate student also attained a First overall in her History of Art degree, achieving a high score of 78 on her dissertation project, with intensive tutorial support conducted via Skype.

*Please note that due to the time-intensive nature of undergraduate level tutoring, I am only able to take on a maximum of three undergraduate tutees at any given time. Please see below for my current availability for tutoring at this level.*

I am currently tutoring ONE undergraduate student.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS:

"I wanted a tutor to give me help and advice on my undergraduate history of art dissertation. I needed reassurance that what I was writing was okay and some one to proof read and give me their opinion on my arguments. Gemma was brilliant, she gave me the confidence that I needed to keep going with my dissertation by reassuring me that I was on the right track. She discussed my ideas with me in detail, proof read all of my work and suggested and sourced articles that I might want to have a look at. I have recently graduated from Newcastle University with a First in History of Art and Media and I know that I owe Gemma a huge thank you for the support she gave me on the way to achieving this."

- Celandine, Newcastle.

Using traditional and digital photographic techniques together with specialised optics. my work explored conventional landscapes alongside fragments in extraordinary detail. My work challenged the traditional view that photography is a science or art, demonstrating that it can be both.

Within two years I want to build on my MA Photography and hopefully study for a PhD in this area. I also want to build on my Associate status of The Royal Photographic Society and want to aim for a Fellowship of this organisation within two years by September 2014.

I am an artist who has been teaching for the past eight years. After my BA, having several years making art and working in a variety of roles in the creative industries, I completed an MA in Cultural and Critical Theory at the University of Brighton in 2004. I realised that whilst I will always want to pursue my own art projects and research, I love working with people and have enjoyed teaching both part-time and full time since my PGCE in 2007.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently Head of Art at a small sixth form college, and have taught and moderated both Edexcel and AQA, A-Level Art and Photography. I currently teach A-level and GCSE Art and Photography. External moderators have praised the quality of my students work as well as the very diverse and imaginative outcomes they produce. In addition to this I am the Lead Tutor on a 'Drawing and Illustration' summer school at the London College of Fashion. I previously worked on the London College of Fashion Level 3 Foundation course for four years until it closed in 2011. Personal Description:
A computer science graduate and former software engineer that got out of the 'rat-race' in 2001 to develop my then hobby teaching martial arts into a professional career. I now run a very successful Academy teaching martial arts, self protection, and personal development to students of all ages.

Having established the school I had the time to develop my photographer to the point where I gained a distinction from the Royal Photographic Society, and now I also spend some of my time as a professional photographer too, focussing mainly on teaching others, both individuals and group workshops.

Teaching Experience:

General:
In my former career as a software developer I was also responsible for writing technical documentation and running training courses worldwide. I'm very comfortable with planning, organising and delivering courses up to a very high standard.

Photography:
As a photographer I have been teaching now for about 5 years, I run workshops for all levels, and also individual one-to-one training tailored to students from complete novices up to those approaching Royal Society standard.

Martial Arts:
I'm a high-ranking martial arts instructor (6th degree black belt with 30 years experience) and have been teaching now for well over 20 years, with students of all ages from 5 up to those in their 60's. Alongside my own school I teach courses and seminars to groups of all sizes. I've taught in schools, worked with police and youth groups etc. I often teach private lessons to individuals, both from my own school and those with no prior experience.

Life Coaching:
Having successfully escaped the rat-race to pursue my own goals it's fair to say I've learned a lot about personal development. I've also completed a number of courses and seminars with world-class coaches such as Anthony Robbins. I now share this experience with a number of private clients for personal development and life coaching to help them with motivation, goals and productivity in their own careers.

I have a current DBS (CRB) check and can provide references relating to all aspects of my coaching.

Tutoring Approach:

Friendly, informal and always tailored to the specific needs of the individual.

Happy to chat about your individual requirements prior to booking so please get in touch with any questions :-)

If you're looking for photography, business or personal development coaching I'm happy to chat on the phone, skype or obviously to meet in person (I do charge travelling if you're not coming to me).

Self defence coaching obviously needs to be in person, and there are with minimum training requirements to ensure we can cover enough basic skills.

Teaching Experience:

The one thing that irritated me most throughout education was the heavy work loads and pressure you're given - at a young age this can be a very stressful time. I believe that the key to a students learning is to take things step by step, working on smaller pieces of work at a time and working slowly up to bigger loads of work. I aim to provide a fun teaching experience and aim to assist with students learning development.

In addition to tutoring sessions I can provide help and assistance via email and can also provide online tutoring (at a fee) via Skype messaging service. Parents or guardians of pupils at a younger age can contact me at any time and I will keep in close contact to ensure the parent(s)/guardian(s) and student feels happy and positive with the development.

Tutoring Approach:

I find the most import aspect of tutoring is to work out what the student needs help with most. It's about working in steps and ensuring the pupil learns more and more from each step. There is no pressure and due to not long having left education I understand most how frustrating education can be at a young age. I apply a fun and calm style to tutoring and ensure the pupil is happy at all times.

Personal Description:
Hello. I`m a friendly, qualified and experienced tutor and have been teaching computing and ICT for over 10 years. I teach in colleges such as The City Literary Institute (London), and privately around London and Sutton Coldfield (The Midlands). Before tutoring, I worked for several years in industry, so I bring strong academic knowledge backed up by practical experience when tutoring students. I hold a degree in Computing Science from Aston University.

Students can come and visit me at my home in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, or I can come to you.

Teaching Experience:

I am a City & Guilds qualified tutor with over 10 years` experience teaching and tutoring in the fields of ICT and Computing. I teach from GCSE to Degree Level, and work at several different colleges (including The City Literary Institute) and for several tuition agencies including Top Tutors - a London-based tutoring agency. This is all backed by a BSc degree in Computing Science from Aston University.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach varies from student to student that I teach but essentially I always have an initial session with anyone I teach to ensure that we get on well with one another and are happy to continue having sessions together. I use student-centred teaching methods, and usually when a student (or one of their parent's) reaches out to me, it is because their son or daughter needs help and support. I will see what the most pressing issue is and work with the student to help improve their understanding, help 'unstick' them if they're stuck, and see the areas that needs improving. This could be problems due to a lack of basic foundation, a newly presented problem, a lack of confidence due to missing lessons, or a variety of different reasons, all of which can be helped.

My lessons tend to be a lot of fun and I can relate to my students at their level. I am prefer to get on with students and build a solid relationship in which learning happens powerfully and joyfully. But I can get serious too if students aren't pulling their weight and I need to take a harder line. Generally though I create a warm and friendly atmosphere where learning can take place and the student knows I'm on their side and can also talk to them as an adult.
