Personal Description:
I am a qualified PGCE Post Compulsory Education graduate and a photographer. I am flexible, enthusiastic and eager to gain further teaching experience whilst aiding students with their photographic development. Through my work experience and my PGCE, I have found within myself a determination to succeed in any task I am a part of, and I have proven myself to be both reliable and professional.

Teaching Experience:

May 2006. National Trust photographic project
As part of a student led team I helped to create and implement a photographic brief for three primary school classes, introducing them to the principles of pinhole and digital photographic practice.

November 2006 - July 2007. Falmouth Comprehensive School, Teaching Assistant
Helped with the running of the A-level photography course, offering advice to students concerning their practical work. I also delivered technical demonstrations and presentations relating to students projects.

December 2006 -July 2007. Aim Higher Peninsula Scheme, Student Ambassador
After a training period I became eligible to run workshops and taster days for Widening Participation students around the South West region.

December 2006. Aim Higher Portfolio Advice Conference, ICA
Offered critiques of the photographic portfolios of students applying for higher education courses in the U.K.

April 2009 - July 2009. Springboard Centre, Doncaster. Teaching assistant
Classroom/teaching assistant in a Pupil Referral Unit providing GCSE level education for pupils that had been excluded from mainstream education. The students possessed a range of learning and behavioural difficulties.

November 2009 - June 2010. Cross Keys College, Gwent, Trainee Photography teacher
Responsible for the teaching and development of a group of first year BTEC National Diploma Photography students.

September 2011 - January 2012. Barnsley College, Introduction to Digital Photography (Evening Tutor)
I currently deliver a fifteen week short course to adult learners, teaching them a broad overview of the basics of photographic practice. I was entrusted with the task of devising my own scheme of work which allows the students to develop a variety of skills in a realistic time frame, taking into account the varying abilities within the group.

January 2012 - June 2012. Doncaster College, Exploring Digital Photography (Evening Tutor)
I deliver a unit of study over ten weeks that enables learners to develop a basic understanding of digital photography, from image capture through to image manipulation.

March 2011 - Present. Doncaster College, Learning Support Assistant
I give support to students that have a variety of barriers to their learning on both a one to one and group basis. I assist with basic spelling and grammar issues. I also help with students' organisation and planning. On occasion I act as a reader and scribe in exam situations for a number of students.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a patient and calm approach to tutoring preferring to act as a facilitator to my students development guiding them along the way to ensure they feel responsible for their own learning. I am able to deliver tuition in both film and digital based camera techniques. I also have a wide range of experience using traditional darkrooms and software programs such as Photoshop.

Through my own photographic education I have collected a large range of text books and resources that students are welcome to utilise for written assignments and I have developed a number of teaching resources to aid students with research techniques and the composition of essays.

Personal Description:
I completed my PhD in History of Art at University College London (UCL) in 2013. I have published my research in a number of academic journals and edited book collections, and I am a practicing artist, currently based in Hulme, Manchester. I also teach part time on the History of Art undergraduate programme at the University of Manchester.

Teaching Experience:

I am a fully trained secondary school teacher, specialising in Art & Design and Photography at KS3, KS4 & KS5. I have 8 years teaching experience, including working as a specialist Learning Support Teacher, and in Special Needs schools catering for children and young adults with a range of special educational needs, from moderate learning difficulties to profound and multiple disabilities.

I have particular expertise in studio practice (art and design), digital and darkroom photography (theory, history and practice), literacy, social and vocational skills, as well as History of Art, Anthropology and History of Medicine at undergraduate level.

I am also experienced in teaching at undergraduate level, having taught gallery-based first year History of Art courses, for University College London's History of Art Department. I am also currently teaching part time at the University of Manchester on the History of Art degree programme.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a one-to-one, flexible approach to learning and teaching, which first establishes the needs and goals of the student, and then sets out clearly structured strategies for achieving these goals. These may be results-focused when preparing for exams, or aimed at developing a broader understanding of a subject area, depending upon the student's own priorities. I am happy to work with any course materials the student may provide, and I am familiar with all current GCSE and A Level syllabuses. I am able to guide both GCSE and A Level students through their studies, offering consistent, dedicated 1-2-1 tuition for the full term of the course. I can also provide practical tuition for students who are preparing their art portfolios for University submission, and can offer assistance with UCAS forms and references for students who undertake long-term A Level tuition with me.

Tutoring may take place at the student's home, or at my art studio in central Manchester, where I can provide a range of art materials and resources by prior arrangement, for more intensive practical art sessions. Please note that I can travel within 20 miles of central Manchester based on the fee structure quoted below, travelling further will incur a small additional fuel fee.

I have had recent successes with my private students, one of whom attended one-to-one sessions at my Manchester studio for 8 weeks and improved her predicted GCSE Art result of a B by two grades, achieving an A* in her final art exam. My most recent undergraduate student also attained a First overall in her History of Art degree, achieving a high score of 78 on her dissertation project, with intensive tutorial support conducted via Skype.

*Please note that due to the time-intensive nature of undergraduate level tutoring, I am only able to take on a maximum of three undergraduate tutees at any given time. Please see below for my current availability for tutoring at this level.*

I am currently tutoring ONE undergraduate student.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS:

"I wanted a tutor to give me help and advice on my undergraduate history of art dissertation. I needed reassurance that what I was writing was okay and some one to proof read and give me their opinion on my arguments. Gemma was brilliant, she gave me the confidence that I needed to keep going with my dissertation by reassuring me that I was on the right track. She discussed my ideas with me in detail, proof read all of my work and suggested and sourced articles that I might want to have a look at. I have recently graduated from Newcastle University with a First in History of Art and Media and I know that I owe Gemma a huge thank you for the support she gave me on the way to achieving this."

- Celandine, Newcastle.

Personal Description:
Ben is a technically and artistically accomplished in portraiture photography and been quoted by professors at university as a master in the studio. He love's to make the photos encapsulate you and who you want to be. Ben strives to capture the details and emotions that would go together to make your time with me an enjoyable experience.
Ben is a social person and love's to get to know the people he works for, so he can really reflect their character and what they want, so to produce the highest quality work for and give them exactly what they are after. Ben aims to spend time chatting with you in advance so that your time with me is so much more productive.
Ben grew up in West Africa where his parents worked amongst the poor coordinating small-scale development projects. This had a massive impact upon his life and photographic practice affecting how he relates to the world around him. In his photographic work he has taken a special interest in reflecting stories and voices through his images. For example, he travelled in Uganda and Thailand and used photography to be the 'voice' of the people he photographed.
Although Ben's formative years were spent in Africa he was educated in Guildford, Surrey at George Abbot School that specialised in the expressive arts. During these years his creative flare became more apparent when he took A levels in Fine Art, Sculpture and Photography. He progressed onto doing a Foundation Degree in Action Photography at Truro College where he specialised in Sport, the Natural world and Social Documentary and began to prepare for a more commercial direction. Ben still maintained his roots in expressive art during the foundation degree but also developed his technical skills thoroughly. Ben had the opportunity to be the photographer for 24/7 magazines in July 2008 at the Newquay Ripcurl Surfing Festival.
In 2009 he progressed on to Plymouth University to study for his BA Hons in Photography where he achieved a 2.1 studying under Stephen Vaughan and Dr Simon Standing. During this course he spent time looking intricately into the how we view our bodies and others around us. He concluded the year specialising in fine art nudes and portraiture, with a project called 'The Paradox of Perfect Beauty'. This study challenges the ideologies of beauty in history, sculpture and figurative representation and critically analyses the standardised figures and body shape used in art as well as in modern day commercial advertising, fashion and other types of portraiture. In the final exhibition Ben aimed to present a personal discovery of body image and consequent self-affirmation. Ben was fortunate to be able to exhibit some of his work at the D & A D New Blood Exhibition in London in June 2010.
Many photographer say they are good but even the perfect image that ben has he can still see my own flaws in you get the highest quality with me and wont be disappointed. In this digital age many people can snap you but ben can give you an artistic flair, which is also of superior quality. He is sure that you will want to share the photographs he produces. Don't hesitate to contact me to discover more.

Teaching Experience:

Personal Description:
I am a professional artist and qualified teacher, having completed a PGCE in 2007. Since then I have continually taught in a variety of roles. Before becoming a full-time artist again, I was Head of Art at a small sixth form in central London for two years. I have also taught at the London College of Fashion for the past eight years as an associate lecturer on various courses, I have amassed considerable experience of devising tailored lesson plans for different age groups, abilities and interests. I am a positive and pro-active teacher, and attach great importance to making art accessible, rewarding and fun for students.

As an artist I am committed to furthering my painting practice in my studio and also enjoy experimenting with alternative photographic techniques in the darkroom. In 2014, my work has been selected to be shown in the Threadneedle Prize exhibition.

Teaching Experience:

My specialist teaching area is drawing and painting, although I have a broad range of technical skills that also encompass printmaking, 3D and photographic processes. My experience of working in the creative industries spans both the fine and applied arts sectors, and the same is true of my teaching experience. I have taught, photography, fashion illustration, illustration and contextual studies, as well as fine art, on a range of courses.

I taught A-Level Fine Art and Photography for three years (2011-14) and have previously helped students dramatically improve their grades when they have retaken their A-levels as an intensive course. Students have gone from a D to an A grade and a U to a B and as a result have been able to go on and study at the university of their choice.

My AS, A2 and GCSE students have achieved great results and the individuality and standard of the work has been praised by external moderators. At the London College of Fashion, I worked on the UAL Art and Design Foundation Course, helping students prepare their portfolios for degree applications. I have a proven record of students successfully going on to being accepted onto their first choice of course at a range of institutions. Admissions tutors on the Foundation and BA courses my students have applied for have commented on work made during my classes as being of a high quality and imaginative.

Tutoring Approach:

I am interesting in enabling students to create work that is personal and meaningful to them, as well as showing them a wide variety of approaches, skills and techniques to best express their ideas. I have a positive and encouraging approach and also enjoy building students' confidence so they can take creative risks and fulfil their potential.

Having established the school I had the time to develop my photography to the point when in 2011 I gained a distinction from the Royal Photographic Society, and now I also spend some of my time as a professional photographer too, focussing mainly on teaching others, both individuals and group workshops.

Teaching Experience:

General:
In my former career as a software developer I was also responsible for writing technical documentation and running training courses worldwide. I'm very comfortable with planning, organising and delivering courses up to a very high standard.

Photography:
As a photographer I have been teaching now for about 5 years, I run workshops for all levels, and also individual one-to-one training tailored to students from complete novices up to those approaching Royal Society standard.

Martial Arts:
I'm a high-ranking martial arts instructor (6th degree black belt with 30 years experience) and have been teaching now for well over 20 years, with students of all ages from 5 up to those in their 60's. Alongside my own school I teach courses and seminars to groups of all sizes. I've taught in schools, worked with police and youth groups etc. I often teach private lessons to individuals, both from my own school and those with no prior experience.

Life Coaching:
Having successfully escaped the rat-race to pursue my own goals it's fair to say I've learned a lot about personal development. I've also completed a number of courses and seminars with world-class coaches such as Anthony Robbins. I now share this experience with a number of private clients for personal development and life coaching to help them with motivation, goals and productivity in their own careers.

I have a current DBS (CRB) check and can provide references relating to all aspects of my coaching.

Tutoring Approach:

Friendly, informal and always tailored to the specific needs of the individual.

Happy to chat about your individual requirements prior to booking so please get in touch with any questions :-)

If you're looking for photography, business or personal development coaching I'm happy to chat on the phone, skype or obviously to meet in person (I do charge travelling if you're not coming to me).

Self defence coaching obviously needs to be in person, and there are with minimum training requirements to ensure we can cover enough basic skills.

Teaching Experience:

The one thing that irritated me most throughout education was the heavy work loads and pressure you're given - at a young age this can be a very stressful time. I believe that the key to a students learning is to take things step by step, working on smaller pieces of work at a time and working slowly up to bigger loads of work. I aim to provide a fun teaching experience and aim to assist with students learning development.

In addition to tutoring sessions I can provide help and assistance via email and can also provide online tutoring (at a fee) via Skype messaging service. Parents or guardians of pupils at a younger age can contact me at any time and I will keep in close contact to ensure the parent(s)/guardian(s) and student feels happy and positive with the development.

Tutoring Approach:

I find the most import aspect of tutoring is to work out what the student needs help with most. It's about working in steps and ensuring the pupil learns more and more from each step. There is no pressure and due to not long having left education I understand most how frustrating education can be at a young age. I apply a fun and calm style to tutoring and ensure the pupil is happy at all times.

Personal Description:
I am in my last year of A levels and about to go on to university, and I am therefore looking for a way to pass on my knowledge to people who may need a bit of extra help with the things that they struggle with. I am very friendly and I try and teach in a way that is very personal and exciting and makes learning and revising these things a lot of fun! I am also extremely patient, I understand what it is like to not understand certain things and therefore I aim to help people get over their barriers and become more confident in the subjects that they are learning!

Teaching Experience:

I haven't got any direct teaching experience, however I am a volunteer at a local charity that works with disabled children, and so I have a lot of experience in being able to help people to do things and also at being patient to work with people and achieve tasks. I also did work experience at a youth organisation, and we went on a residential to help young people achieve a leadership qualification, and not only did I help out the young people on the course to do the tasks and understand what they were doing, I also did the course myself and I now I have a Level 1 Leadership qualification to show my skills as a young leader.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to be very patient but firm, I believe that everyone can understand the things that they are trying to learn if they want to, but minimal hand holding is required for that to happen. I will support the tutee to discover the answers themselves, but I will look over essays and other work that they have done and help them to improve based on exam boards and things that will help to boost them up to the next level. I am confident and cheerful and so I am able to teach in a way that makes people feel relaxed and at ease, while having fun and learning at the same time.

Personal Description:
Hi my name is Jake

I am an experienced photographer/videographer with many years of practice, I have a degree from Nottingham Trent University along with a video production company called Capture the Guru. Over the years I have worked in many different areas of both disciplines, finding myself specialising in architectural photography and music based videography.

I have in-depth knowledge in both practical skills and in the psychology of interpreting images and video, this allows me to not only teach you how to take and record quality material, along with how to work with it in post-production but to also consider how your work will be received.

However most importantly I want to take the interest that you have currently and give you the skills to truly produce material to be proud of, along with further instilling the enjoyment that is so important.

Teaching Experience:

I have not had much formal teaching experience as of yet, however I have taught a fair few people tricks in order for them to produce better snaps. Whilst I was studying me and a group of friends on the course banded together to help teach each other the parts we struggled with, I was always very apt with the technical side of photography and would teach the others how to used different forms of cameras and how to emulate specific styles that we were learning about.

Now however since working within video my colleague and me are constantly teaching each other new tricks whilst filming and editing.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is simple, to discover the level of enjoyment and enhance it. We can all become frustrated when the need to produce our ideas is limited by our current knowledge and when it comes to mediums like photography and videography a practical hands-on lesson far surpasses any online tutorial.

I am a very hand-on and location based teacher, Instead of giving you material to read I want to show you techniques, allow you to feel what it is like to be searching for an image you may not fully understand.
