Personal Description:
Friendly and informal, I tailor tutoring to individual needs. I am married with a young family and enjoy the flexibility that tutoring gives me with my business hours. I see tutoring as a valuable resource for the student who can gain great insight in a one to one session

Teaching Experience:

I have been a personal tutor for over 12 years, helping many students with maths and sciences, mostly at GCSE level. In addition I have experience as a Lecturer at The University of Huddersfield and at Wakefield District College. Where I taught computer science and I.T.

Since 2000 I have been looking to focus more on music and to develop this as my specialism. I can assist with Music theory up to around Grade 5 and Piano and Keyboards from beginner to intermediate level.

Tutoring Approach:

Individually tailored to the student. I prefer a sytematic approach, followed up by individual study by the student. I regularly assess student progress to ensure full understanding and encourage background reading for breadth of knowledge.

Singing (beginner to advanced - up to Grade 8 and for Adult/Casual Learners)
Music Theory (beginner to intermediate - up to Grade 5/GCSE)

I am willing and able to teach pupils one-on-one or in groups.

My academic interests include:

I have a lot of experience of working with young people, with extensive experience gained from working with the Admissions department of Worcester College (at the University of Oxford) as well as working as a Choral Scholar at the College (where I had to provide an example to the young choristers of one of the choirs).

In addition to this I was a Junior Foster Carer for 11 years (from ages 7-18), where I worked alongside various members of Social Services in order to provide a stable home for children in care.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is a traditional one, particularly when it comes to the teaching of Latin and Greek, which is taught by composition into the language from English and through the reading of original texts.

I ask for a tutee to try their hardest - as long as they do, they will be met with a tutor who will give their all in order to help them achieve their goal, a tutor dedicated to his teaching and his pupil.

I also incorporate modern methods into my teaching, including the use of ICT and the latest examples of Digital Humanities e.g. The Perseus Project.

Personal Description:
I am a young, London based, environmental scientist with a love of music and languages working for an environmental consultancy. I graduated from the University of Leeds with a 2:i for an integrated masters in Environmental Science. I have always had a strong academic record due to my enthusiasm for learning.

Teaching Experience:

I have spent many years teaching private piano lessons on a one to one basis and understand the effort that must be put in form both sides through such a concentrated period of study with a tutor. My main success with previous teaching has been through creating interesting learning and study techniques that encourage further learning outside the tutor periods.

Tutoring Approach:

It is important that I understand the needs of the student and adapt the teaching methods to their needs. A flexible approach will allow the student to develop an understanding of what they enjoy about the subject and therefore can direct effort and time accordingly. Enthusiasm and interesting teaching methods are especially important in areas where confidence is lacking and positive feedback is as much a vital part of learning as constructive criticism.

Personal Description:
I am a French Erasmus student studying urbanism as a postgraduate at Queen's University. I would be happy to share my knowledge on France to other students.
I lived for a year in Germany as I was 16.
I play clarinette since I am 8 years old.

Teaching Experience:

Two years teaching french, history and geography to a 15-16 year old student
5 years helping with homework at a primary level
One year of teaching clarinet to a beginer.

Tutoring Approach:

The first session will be about understand what you want of our sessions and what is your level in French or German or music. From that level we will work toward the basics you miss or do not understand, and toward your homework or your school lessons if you have some. If you agree I will give you some homework (one small exercise about the subject of the day), so you can practice alone during the week. We also will have sessions about your assignments and essays to help you succeed at school.
For French tutoring, if you want, the cessions can also be made of discusisons about something interrest you, about live in France, or something else. It is also a nice and less scholar way to improve your language.
For music, you will have a small exercise to present for next week to be sure you remember what we did. We will not be able to get further on until you are able to do it correctly.

Personal Description:
Hello! My name is Arron and I am an avid musician in every aspect.
I love playing the drums, guitar and bass. Infact any instrument I can get my hands on! I have been playing the drums since my last year of highschool and I dedicated every evening to playing the drums. I also got into music production and technology and started doing simple recordings of friends and myself, and from there things have developed. I am currently self employed working at home in my own custom built recording studio where I teach the drums, guitar and also record musicians and bands. I am also a gamer at heart having playing with computers since I was 2 years old. I am very tech-savvy and love technology and how it can be applied to music to improve the way we learn our instruments and the way we create music.
I have also been in several bands ranging from pop punk to hard rock and indie and I like good music, what ever genre it might be!

Teaching Experience:

I have taught several groups of people ranging from very young to middle-aged in regards to drumming when I was the drum tutor as part of a music experience group in a local village.

In regards to other subjects I have taught people how to build and manage their own computers and networks as well as teaching my university colleagues how to use various pieces of software and hardware while I was at university studying Computer Generated Imagery (CGI / Games Design).

I have also offered my services as a session drummer where by I am invited by studios to perform the drums and help with percussion with studio projects as well as aiding with music technology and production.

Tutoring Approach:

There are many ways approaching tutoring and it all depends on how the student learns best. I have had several students who excel when taught using visual aids, while some learned quicker by listening. As I get to know my students and as they get to know me we will work together to get the most out of our lessons.

I tend to not focus too heavily on grading and exams as this can cause resentment towards practising and learning and the I know from experience that the last thing anyone wants is for their hobby and passion to become work and frustration. But I do like to set goals, tasks and challenges and try to work with my students so they learn and progress.

What I can offer at no extra cost is quick recordings of the student to hear what they sound like as well as little song recordings. I can slo record myself to help students practise certain drum beats and phrases. I often find if you can learn to play by ear then you can learn almost anything in the drums.

Personal Description:
I am an avid musician and educationalist, with a passion for sharing my interests in music and learning with children and young adults. As a parent and trained Teacher, I can see from different perspectives the different aspects of learning in life, and am keen to foster a love of learning whenever I am involved with a child or young person.

Teaching Experience:

I have 7 years experience working in a Special Needs school working across the 11-19 age range primarily, with much crossover into Primary and Early Years. When my children were at nursery I worked closely with the team to develop their behaviour management and early communication skills, giving me a different range of experiences to call upon. I have also taught private music lessons with great client satisfaction for over 10 years.

Tutoring Approach:

I am experienced in adapting my approach to delivery depending on context, having worked in classrooms, with learner orchestras, and in 1:1 settings. Fun and enjoyment should be central to a successful learning experience, and I try to ensure a relaxed approach in sessions facilitates this.

Personal Description:
I am a 19 year old student currently on a gap year before commencing studies once again at New York University in August,2014. After having completed my International Baccalaureate diploma at Marlborough College, I applied to NYU to read a double bachelors degree in History and Global Liberal Studies ( a combination of philosophy, politics and a foreign language of my choice). Tutoring has always greatly intrigued as I myself have had first experiences of how a tutor can either help oneself to flourish or how their methods can inadvertently stunt your academic growth. I have a passion for children and learning and I believe that tutoring should be an activity that both the tutee and tutor can mutually benefit, learn and grow from. I am a very driven individual who faces every challenge with a vibrantly positive approach and I try my best to put 100 percent into all that I do.

Teaching Experience:

During the summer of 2012 I worked as an assistant teacher at Constant Spring Primary all age school. This school is located in Kingston, Jamaica. During the few months that worked as a TA, I particularly dealt with children who had learning difficulties and challenges, teaching them English Language and Literature, Spanish and Mathematics.

Tutoring Approach:

I would like to think of my approach to Tutoring as a rather Hollistic one. I believe that my role as a tutor should not only be focused on building the tutee academically but also helping them to flourish as a person in their confidence and ambition. I like to have a hands on approach and work with my tutees each step of the way to ensure that they are maximising on their time with me and that a clear set of goals are set from the beginning to enable them to fulfil their true potential.

I hold a First Class Honours Degree in Music from the University of Manchester and have two years of tutoring experience in Maths and Music. I currently tutor Maths to GCSE level in local secondary schools around the south and east of Manchester but tutor up to A level privately.

Teaching Experience:

I have 2 years of tutoring experience both in Maths and Music. Maths I can tutor from Primary to A-level. I can tutor music theory up from grades 1-8.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a flexible and encouraging tutor who not only works hard to improve a pupil`s grades, but build their confidence in the subject, thus raising the level of achievement and allow higher targets to be set for the future.

Currently I am operating on a flexible timetable so if you have any enquiries do not hesitate to get in touch and I'm sure we'll find a time which works for the both of us.
