Personal Description:
I am a final year medical student at Oxford University looking to work with students of all ages to help with their studies. I have a desire to help both students who are struggling with their work at school or college, as well as help to challenge and to stretch students who are looking for extra work outside of their regular study.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutorial experience working with students at GCSE, A level and university level across a range of subjects and experience teaching younger students both in primary school and for dance lessons. I am a mentor of sixth form and university students, both for academic and extra-curricular issues. During termtime, I also take sex education lessons in local secondary schools, as part of the group run by medical students, Sexpression Oxford.

Tutoring Approach:

I want to be able to support and stretch students in a positive and supportive learning environment. I prefer to work in a structured and yet relaxed manner, allowing students to work at a pace that is comfortable for them, whilst ensuring that students are able to progress to the best of their potential.

It is my hope that tutoring sessions will be led by the students in terms of content, where I will then have input into areas which I think need further development.

Personal Description:
I am currently studying medicine. I completed three years of pre-clinical studies at the University of Cambridge and graduated with a BA in Biological and Biomedical Sciences in June 2009, before moving to UCL to complete my clinical studies. I take part in a wide variety of extracurricular activity and I particularly enjoy tutoring. It is very rewarding and I feel that I have gained a wide range of skills from my previous tutoring experience.

Teaching Experience:

While at school, I taught science and maths to GCSE pupils as part of a 'Peer Tutoring' scheme. In 2008, I spent 5 weeks in a Tanzanian primary school teaching basic English vocabulary to 4/5-year-olds and English grammar to 14/15-year-olds. I am now participating in the UCL Tutoring Scheme which involves going into a local secondary school each week to tutor A-level pupils studying biology. I have also worked as a student advisor at Medsim conferences, giving semiars on anatomy and ultrasound to groups of 18-20 prospective medical students.

Tutoring Approach:

I am flexible in my tutoring style but feel that discussion-led teaching is ideal because it ensures input from both the tutor and the tutee. If a problem is encountered, I like to work through it in a logical fashion with the student. By taking this approach, the student is often able to solve the problem using their own ideas and intuition. This improves understanding and increases confidence when the student approaches similar questions in the future. I have an organised and thorough approach, ensuring all the relevant material is covered in appropriate detail.

Personal Description:
I am a final year Phd student in the School of Pharmacy, University of Nottingham on a full scholarship from the International school. My research involves transporter expression and function in lungs. Prior to the start of my doctoral study, i pursued my MSc degree in Biotechnology from the University of Dundee and undertook a six month long project in FDA, USA. My bachelor degree was a dual honours of Zoology and Biotechnology in India from the reputed Fergusson College, University of Pune. Fun loving and yet dedicated to my work, I love living life as if there was no tomorrow.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored A levels and first year university level students in India in my subject areas. In UK, i started teaching in University of Nottingham since September 2009. I work with the Academic Support group in the university, as a mentor and tutor for the under privileged students. I undertake practical classes and demonstrations for Mpharma courses and also assist the module covenors in marking and assessing the students. Till date i have supervised three undergraduates for their final year projects, helping and guiding them not only with lab based work but also writing their thesis and presenting their work as posters and presentations.

Tutoring Approach:

When it comes to teaching i believe in a practical approach. Spoon-feeding doesn't help. A student needs constant challenge from their tutors to keep them focused and interested on the given topic.

Before the day of appointment i will send my tutee some reading materials which i will expect them to work upon, then go through their respective modules, have a glimpse on past exam papers and help them play to their strength.

Personal Description:
I am currently undertaking graduate entry medicine at Imperial College London having previously done a BSc in Biochemistry at Imperial and a MSc at Oxford in immunology. In addition i am also a subwarden in university halls, this involves ensuring the pastoral care and discipline of the students whilst allowing them to make mistakes and grow into adults.

On top of my education i am a second lieutenant in the royal army medical corp.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently teaching a range of students form GCSE to university level. In addition to subject specific tuition i am helping several students with medical school applications and university applications; this involves advising on work experience, entrance exam preparation and interview skills.

In addition to my formal tutoring i also help several first year undergraduate medical students and graduate medical student get to grips with the core principles of physiology and pathology.

Tutoring Approach:

i believe that students should not be spoon fed or just be taught to a syllabus as this results in stunting the students intellectual growth. Students should learn to question and be inquisitive and this is something i try to instil in my students. However, if someone is finding a topic particularly more challenging i try to find everyday relatable concepts that can be used to aid in their understanding.

Often students have the ability and knowledge but lack the confidence to apply it; i try to develop their belief in themselves which will pay dividends in the future.

I am currently studying for my PhD in DNA nanowire characterisation at Newcastle University. I have a strong background in science with my main expertise being in biochemistry and biology. I enjoy sharing my knowledge in a friendly relaxed manner to achieve comfortable learning.

Teaching Experience:

I have 3 years experience of being a 'science explainer' at a local science centre. My experience involves giving large audience science shows discussing a variety of subjects to school groups and general public shows including children and adults, also delivering one to one science activities and tuition.

Personal Description:
I am a medical student in my first clinical year of study at the Royal Free & University College Medical School. I completed my first degree last year, achieving a first-class degree in Medical Sciences with Physiology at the prestigious UCL Physiology department. I was also awarded their Leonard Bayliss memorial prize for the highest overall mark in the year. In training to become a doctor I am exposed on a daily basis to many different scenarios, and have had to develop the communication skills, critical thinking and leadership necessary to analyse problems and work towards their solution logically as part of a team.

I enjoy many extracurricular activities including representing my medical school in Rugby, Cricket and Squash, and have spent time in the University of London Air Squadron as an officer cadet.

Teaching Experience:

Although I have no formal qualification in teaching, I have found plenty of opportunities to tutor others whilst both at sixth form and throughout my time at university. My first experience of tutoring was as a cricket coach at a local cricketing centre.

Subsequently I have had experience in tutoring students through their GCSEs and A-levels, helping one student to reverse a GCSE grade for Maths from a C to an A. In doing so they were able to achieve their desired place at sixth form college - an experience I found very rewarding.

I have also found time whilst at university to sign up for the UCL 'Peer Assisted Learning Scheme', helping students in the years below me to achieve success in their preclinical exams. I was very fortunate to be part of the first year of students helping to teach anatomy in the university dissection room alongside several notable UCL Professors and Surgeons, an experience I enjoyed tremendously.

Tutoring Approach:

I often found it frustrating at school that some teachers would teach only what was required to be learnt on the curriculum, with no room for deeper information that invariably helped to consolidate the point being made and often captured the imagination. This often meant that many students tried to simply remember everything rather than understand it.

Whilst studying my A-levels I was inspired by one teacher who saw things differently - often going beyond the depth of knowledge required in order for the students to achieve a true understanding. This has invariably been my approach to both my own learning and tutoring style ever since. In my experience students gain far more from working through a problem logically, by breaking it down into its constituent parts and having a sound understanding of first principles. Not only does this save the student from an alternative method involving a lot of 'cramming', it also equips them with the confidence and ability to answer more difficult questions that they may not have anticipated with a rational and sensible approach.

Hi, my name is Naresh and I am currently in the last few months of my clinical training as a Medical Doctor.
In addition, I hold two previous degrees: a Masters degree in Public Health (MPH) and a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) double major in Biology and Biochemistry.

Originally from the island of Trinidad in the Caribbean , I have been schooled both in British and American format educational systems. I find teaching personally rewarding and have been doing so on a part time basis for about ten years.

Teaching Experience:

> Tutored undergraduate level university courses and medical level courses for the Department of Educational Services at St. Georges University.

> Tutored undergraduate level courses for the Department of Life Sciences at the University of the West Indies.

> Taught "A" level, "O" level and Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) supplementary classes at local educational academy in Trinidad.

> Designed and executed training workshops for adults for the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), regional office of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Personal Description:
My name is Aaron, I'm a 4th year medical student at the University of Aberdeen born in Newcastle. I've been involved in education most of my life, having the most experience in the sciences predominately. I'm a pretty easy going guy, most subjects i can find something unique and interesting to like about and try to read as much as i can about a varied range of topics, I try to spread the enthusiasm for learning to my friends I always seem to be spurting out things I've read without meaning to! I've played the guitar for 11 years and have successfully tutored two people along the way.

Teaching Experience:

Informally, I have been teaching my peers from A level and university for nearly 5 years, helped many people improve their grades. I've also taught two people how to play the guitar as I have a fair bit of experience there.

Formally I have done a 6 week teaching module at University (this year) working with kids from 11yrs old to 18 years old teaching mostly sciences in a classroom, preparing lessons and giving out homeworks.

Tutoring Approach:

I think the most important thing is to get people to think, to always ask why, question the dogma of a subject. I'm quite flexible about the way in which I teach. It's important to ask the person how they learn best, trying to accommodate each individual to the best of my ability. If it's a question of teaching a topic to someone, that I can do. If it's a question of going through problems with someone, getting them to do them, giving them hints when needed that I can also do.

Personal Description:
I am a final year Kings College London medical student, taking two years off to train for the London Olympics. I am a fencer on the British team and have been fencing internationally since I was 14, so I am used to having to catch up on work!
I went to Putney High school, then Cambridge where I got a BA in History and Philosophy of Science. I then transferred to Kings where it was easier to combine training and studying. My ambition is to become a paediatrician, and so working with children and teenagers, particularly helping them to understand complicated things, is high on my priority list.

Teaching Experience:

At school I took the 'Sports Leader' course which showed us how to plan lessons, among other skills.
I worked as a classroom assistant for a term at Chatfield School, which caters for disabled children, when I was doing my A levels, which taught me how to engage and be patient with even the most challenging pupils.
I have coached fencing to children as young as 4 right up to adults. I first started coaching when I was 15 and am still coaching occasionally. I have done private lessons and classes, often with school groups.
I have also done a paediatric placement, which involved learning about the developmental milestones of children as well as continually requiring me to explain biological conditions to children in hospital.

Tutoring Approach:

At school I was nothing like a perfect pupil. I was disorganised, rarely did homework and used to spend all my spare time fencing and socialising. However I always got good marks in public exams because I knew how to economise my learning time so I would get the maximum benefit from any period of studying. I ended up teaching myself most of my A levels. I am not advising this approach; it was maddening for my teachers and irresponsible, but it does mean that I am in a good position to teach the skills I learnt to pupils who now find themselves behind as I was. I am also not naturally a scientist but had to learn science in order to do medicine, so I explain things in a different way to science teachers, a way that I believe is more accessible. I am aware that pupils need to learn in their own way, so I work together with my pupils using games, tasks, diagrams and written or verbal explanations to make the subject as easy as possible.

Personal Description:
I have obtained my Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Cancer studies and am working towards a qualification in clinical pathology. I have also obtained an upper 2nd class Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in medical biochemistry which is the foundation of modern medicine. I believe success requires hard work, patience and proper guidance, and not fully based on intelligence. As a tutor, I believe providing the proper guidance, tailored to the students' needs, is essential for academic success. I do not believe feeding information to be the way forward in education. I believe in interactive teaching, guiding the students to find an interest in the subject, and through this process the students would self-learn the information. In addition, I would also give guidance to students to handle homework, exam and test situations, being able to handle stress and having the right techniques ensures better performance.

Teaching Experience:

I have given lectures and tutorial classes at the University of Wolverhampton as a substitute lecturer. I have also taught during my PhD studies to visiting scientists and new post-graduate students. I have also attended conferences to give seminars and presentations of my own research.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach in tutoring is not to teach, since all the essential information are provided by the schools. My approach is to provide the necessary environment to bring the student an interest in the subject for them to learn what they are taught in school. My aim is to make the students get involved in the subject and to properly learn what they have already been taught, making the learning process fun and enjoyable. More importantly, to give students essential techniques and prepare them to perform optimally in homework, test and exam conditions.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified dentist and lawyer and have a very strong academic background. I have dealt with patients throughout my career and used to stressful situations. My education and experience has led to the development of a versatile disposition which translates into a willingness to work with people with different personalities and mindsets. I have strong communication skills (written and oral) attained through my undergraduate voluntary work experience in the community, as a dentist, as well as by my brief stint as a paralegal and finally through being a voracious reader. I was also the president of the Debating Society at both school and university. I am often described as a guardedly gregarious person with an enthusiasm for new experiences and a willingness to learn.

Teaching Experience:

I have part-time teaching experience in India and the UK. My students have ranged from young adolescents to adults and I adapt my teaching style accordingly.
In India I used to teach English as a foreign language with a focus on preparation for TOEFL and IELTS. I also taught confidence-building classes such as debates and declamations.
In UK I did a brief stint as a tutor for an AS level biology student and am happy to report her excellent results. However I was myself in full time education with a young family and could not continue with further teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe I am very flexible in my approach and have the patience to deal with each student's individual needs. My teaching style would most accurately be described as learning by a thorough understanding of the subject. I like to encourage the strengths of the student while aiming to improve on their weaknesses.
I have a lot of experience with community education and have learnt to vary my content and style to suit each individual. I was routinely a study-group leader during University since all my fellow students appreciated my very hands on approach.
