Personal Description:
I live in Bangor On Dee, near Wrexham. I have been married for nearly 35 years and have 2 adult sons. I work as a supply teacher.

Teaching Experience:

I qualified as a teacher in 1972, and have worked for the Wigan, Warrington, Cheshire and Wrexham authorities, with children aged from 4-11 years. I have experience with children with special needs.

Tutoring Approach:

I enjoy working on a one-to one basis, because the work can be tailored exactly to the child's needs, often in a more relaxed manner than is possible in school.

Personal Description:
I'm a 28 year old aerospace engineer working for Rolls-Royce with a real passion for teaching. All my life I have loved helping others to learn (my little sister can vouch for that!), and maths was always my favourite class at school. I have a ridiculous amount of enthusiasm for the subject and love passing it on and infecting other with the love of maths (my friends, however, think I'm mad!). I think the thing I love most about teaching is the realisation; the point when the 'penny drops' and the student gets a thrill out of learning. This is why I love tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

I've had quite a broad range of teaching experience - firstly, I am a semi-professional salsa dancing choreographer, performer and instructor. A little different from classroom mathematics, yes, but the teaching principles of patience and encouragement are the same in all fields.

I started tutoring when I was at university and a friend asked if I would help one of her year-11 friends with her maths, and I was happy to oblige. This experience made me realise that I not only did I really enjoy it, I was actually quite good at it. She took her maths GCSE and came out with an A grade - her expected grade 6 months earlier was a C.
This experience lead on to me tutoring a year 9 boy for a year. His mediocre grades were pulled up to level 7 - entry level for higher exam papers.

That was 6 years ago and since then I have tutored many students, usually about 3 per year for various periods. My level of expertise ranges from year 9 all the way up to year 13 in maths, and up to year 11 in physics. Although I LOVE physics, I wouldn't be comfortable teaching A-level - with one exception - Nuclear & Particle physics. This was always my speciality - so if you have a niche need, I would love to help!

Tutoring Approach:

I adore the subject matter. My students have told me that my enthusiasm not only comes across when I teach, it actually rubs off on them. I aim to make my students LOVE their subject!

I feel that the best way to encourage a maths or physics student is for them to feel that they are really achieving something. Firstly allow them to explore the problem and see if they can work it out for themselves, then drip-feed them the/a method so they don't feel like they are being spoon-fed. Extrinsic goals (doing it for someone else) are nowhere near as powerful as intrinsic goals (doing it because you want to) - my aim is to make the student find maths/physics - dare I say - fun(!). Once the student realises implications of what they are doing, and how important this esoteric language is to the world it really opens their eyes and makes them realise this is part of a thing much bigger than the problem in front of them.

Another quality that is absolutely paramount in a tutor is patience. Sometimes students just don't "get it". It's times like these that a tutor's mettle is really tested. I have learnt that a good technique is firstly to repeat what you have explained, as if it's the first time, and then repeat it again, but from another angle. Alternatively, moving on to something else and coming back to the problem helps some students. The important factor is to remain patient and relaxed at all times. Be on their side. If you get frustrated then the student gets frustrated, and then you've failed as a tutor.

Personal Description:
I am a young actor living in London. I also write and direct poetry, plays and films. As my father was a Diplomat I spent much of my early life abroad: in Cuba, Hungary and the United States.

After studying Maths, English and Russian at Eton College I spent a year studying acting in New York and cooking in an English restaurant, then studied English and Drama at Bristol and have just finished a BA in Acting at LAMDA. When I'm not writing or in the theatre I'm in the kitchen experimenting.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored several students over the past two years in London. I have helped with English A-Level papers for a boy who got an A grade and will start at Bristol this autumn. I also taught essay-writing and exam technique to a girl who will be starting medicine at Cambridge this autumn.

I also have a lot of experience with learning difficulties as I have helped my younger brother all his studying life through his asperger's and dyslexia.

Tutoring Approach:

My inspiration to work in the arts always came from the books, films, artists and languages I studied at school and at university so I have a great amount of passion and interest in what I teach.

I believe this is very much the most important lesson for any new student to learn: a personal enjoyment and motivation for the subject. Exams are everywhere these days but it is important to remember that an exam is only a method for determining how much you know and if you can find yourself genuinely excited and eager to discuss what you know you are half-way to passing that exam.

Personal Description:
I have retired to this area where I enjoy living near the sea, and walking. I volunteer at our local theatre/cinema and sing in the choir at our Church in Southbourne. I have three grandchildren, two in London and one in USA and spend what time I can with them, using skype to talk to my family in USA. My husband and I both enjoy gardening.

Teaching Experience:

I am an Oxford graduate with more than 20 years of teaching experience in schools including A level maths and further maths (pure, statistics, and with a particular interest in mechanics). I have also given private tutoring to a large number of pupils from SATs to A levels. Many of those I have taught have returned for help with further exams, or have sent their friends to me, so most of my pupils have come through personal recommendation.

Tutoring Approach:

It gives me great pleasure to help those who struggle with maths to gain confidence and even come to enjoy the subject as well as helping the high fliers get their A grades. I expect pupils to work hard, but think it important to give work that is within their capability so the pupil can feel the achievement of getting things right.

Personal Description:
As a British Chinese, I spent my childhood in China until I was 11 when my family moved to London. I found the pace of study of mathematics at my state school to be too slow for my curiosity. From the age of 12, I self-taught mathematics until university. During this period, I completed my GCSE maths with A* at the age of 12, A-level maths at 14 with a score of 599/600, A-level further maths at 16. For A-level studies, I completed 7 A-levels (Maths, Further Maths, Music, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Business Studies) and AS-level in ICT, all at my inner city state school. I went on to study Mathematics at Imperial College, graduated with first class honours and my final year exam results ranked first in my year - it is something I aim to teach my students.

I worked for a number of years for a finance firm in the City of London. At the same time, I have been tutoring since I was 18. My tutoring spread through recommendations, and I still have a number of long term tutees. I have always found tutoring to be most satisfying and fulfilling, especially when I witness students' progress from bafflement to appreciation, and eventually achieving their aspirations. Now I have decided to become a dedicated full time professional tutor, and has been doing so for last three years.

Teaching Experience:

I have done a great deal of one-to-one maths tuitions, more than 60 students over the last ten years and more than 5000 hours. Almost all the tuition is in mathematics, although sometimes I also help with sciences at the same time. Most of my previous students have been introduced to me by way of recommendation, a few found me from uktutors site, I have not had the need to advertise else where. I have tutored maths at GCSE, A-level, and also tutored Further Maths. All my students have done very well in their maths exams, so far all A's and A*'s, they have had offers and gone to top universities, including: Oxford, UCL, KCL, Warwick, Cardiff.

Past student / parents references are available upon request, in fact most of them would be happy to speak to you. And I will forward as many references as you reasonably require. I also have a long list of previous student highlights, too long to put here, but available upon request.

New from this academic year 2015, I also offer grade A guarantee for A level maths, with reimbursement if the guarantee is not met. I take pride and responsibility for my student's grades! Probably more than they do!

My teaching experience started from myself, as I self-taught maths until university. In order to master my subject by myself, I read many text books and assimilate the best ideas and methods of each. In the end, I summarized the best methods, which are often starkly intuitive and widely applicable. With these unique methods, a focus on deep intuitions and my own enthusiasm, the passion I have for maths is often transferred to my tutees. I am also of the philosophy that if a topic does not feel easy for a tutee, then that is my problem, not theirs. Then I would strive to find a better way to allow my tutees to understand the topic as I do, and feel as easy as I do.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring approach is one of efficiency and clarity. Efficiency and clarity means that I will be able to cover a vast amount of material in a short period of time, while not sacrificing clarity and understanding for my pupils. Students are required to learn most of the methods available for any topic. Where possible, I will emphasize the why something works the way it does as well as how to use it. All these are to help pupils to develop a deep understanding and appreciation for the subject, as well as best equip them for exams. All these can still be achieved efficiently and at speed! My pupils are usually surprised at how much we can cover and how well they can understand something at such speed. The efficiency and clarity can be achieved because I make it my goal to deliver the clearest ideas to my students as efficiently as possible. This is what I spend time doing when I am not tutoring. Along the way my students will benefit from many new ways of thinking on many topics which are not found on text books or anywhere else, which give them an edge in exams. Final note, I usually cover everything, and in advance, which will allow the student to have school lessons as revision class.

In addition, when I take someone on, it is naturally my goal to help motivate them along the way. If a tutee isn't doing enough work, I will take an active role to encourage and motivate the student to work harder. To me it is all part of what I do, if the thing that is stopping a student achieving is their habits or time management, then I will help them deal with it too.

Finally, I place great importance in maintaining a positive relationship with the tutees. Before any tuition start, we would have an informal chat with parents and student to establish how the student would like me to help him or her. It is most important that the student understand that I am here to help them achieve their goals, not that of the parents goals. This will allow us to start from a good basis to form a positive relationship in order to help the student.

Final notes:

Personal Description:
I am an Aeronautical Engineering student at the University of Southampton. I previously studied Further Maths, Physics and Spanish at A-Level, with grades A*AAB. I achieved high grades (A*-B) in my GCSEs which were in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, French, Spanish, Latin, ICT, English (Lit. and Lang.) and Religious Studies.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored students ranging from 3 to 15 years old in subjects such as Maths, Physics and Spanish. My tutees have usually come to me with a grade requirement they can't meet and after our sessions, I am pleased to say all of them have been met.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring will be based on your learning style. I will prepare my own ideas and plans but they will be more along the lines of "points to cover" rather than a lesson plan. If you need my help, just send me a text or an email anytime. We will aim to set a goal together to work towards, whether it be getting a higher grade or just feeling more confident in a subject.

Personal Description:
I'm a 23-year-old graduate of the University of Cambridge, having recently completed my studies and earning a First-Class Honours degree in Natural Sciences (Physics) with a Merit at the Masters course in Mathematics. Have lived in Leeds for a while, moving to Edinburgh to work on a PhD at the end of the Summer. Am keen on sharing my knowledge and experience with the next generation.

Teaching Experience:

Have spent two separate periods of two weeks volunteering at a local high school and assisting in Maths lessons. Worked with students of all ages and abilities from Years 7 through to 13, and gave presentations about my work at University.

Tutored one student between November 2012 and April 2013 with positive feedback. A reference is not yet available. I have worked in the past with several students during lessons, and also spent one hour with a student that helped life her GCSE maths grade from B to A. In addition have prepared several fully-worked and explained answers to questions posted online (links available on request).

Tutoring Approach:

I try to ensure that the student is guided through the subject as clearly as possible, with a lot of questions asked of the student when appropriate, that hopefully will allow him/her to think through the topic for themselves. In addition I aim to provide a clear understanding of why the topic being studied is important/ where it allows us to end up, and so on.

Personal Description:
I am a lively and enthusiastic graduate, with a first class honours in Engineering from Kingston University. I have always had a passion for teaching, as the younger generation is our future and I believe that it is very important that they are well educated. I know that private tutoring is very useful, as I myself have had it, it helps build confidence in students that don't feel that they are up to speed in school.

I am highly passionate about everything I do, this includes activities such as playing guitar and studying motors. I know that I am an able tutor when it comes to students of any ability.

Teaching Experience:

I started my career tutoring only young children on a casual basis, I now have tutored children professionally. My eldest student was 18, and my youngest was 6. I enjoy teaching children of all ages. I tutor in Maths, English and Spanish, and I am able to tutor in Film Studies too. I have studied all of these subjects myself and have gained respectable grades in them. I believe that having worked in a customer based environment for many years means that I am an easy to talk to person and I found that this is helpful in tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a graduate, and I the way in which I teach is by using practice questions and repetitively going over the necessary work, as I believe that this helps the student grasp the work. I also aim to make sure that the student can understand the work as well as answer questions, as understanding is the most important part.

The lessons would always be well structured. I would begin by going over the facts and showing examples of how things can be solved. I would then go on to give practice questions, with which I would help, and finally I would leave the student with a practice question as homework.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified Mathematics teacher currently working in an inner city secondary in Liverpool.
I graduated from the University of Liverpool with an honours degree in Mathematics and Financial Economics and have also completed a further Mathematics course at Liverpool Hope University.
My background in Mathematical education has provided me with the knowledge and skills to teach students of all ages and different abilities.
I have been tutoring for the past three years now, both independently and for a private agency, with a proven track record in gaining the results required by each of my students.
Full CRB available on request

Teaching Experience:

I currently work in an inner city school, recently rated as "good with outstanding features" by Ofsted. I have worked in the school for the past three years teaching pupils in classes, small tuition groups and on a one to one basis.
I have an extensive knowledge in preparing pupils for exams, whether it be secondary school entry exams, GCSE or A-level. This has come from working in various schools doing intervention classes, both independently and as part of my further Maths course in University.
As well as teaching in the Uk i have been fortunate enough to go on a charity project to India over the summer holidays where i was able to teach in two Tibetan school, which has given me a wider perspective on teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

The first session is always used to get the know the student, find out what they want, what their strengths and weaknesses are and how we can develop these to reach our target grade/level. This is done by creating a relaxed, friendly atmosphere where the student can feel they are able to approach me with any problems or queries. By finding out the above information and creating such an atmosphere, i am then able to build their confidence and understanding in Mathematics.
I also aim to use the same approaches as i do in my classroom, where the students can see how they are doing and how to reach the next level. Regularly little assessments will take place as evidence of pupil progression.
Pupils will be encouraged to try hard and aim to reach the highest possible grade they can.

Personal Description:
I hold a PhD from Imperial College London and have a strong academic track record having previously led cutting-edge industrial and academic research in science and statistics. I am fascinated by science and maths and I believe my genuine enthusiasm for the fields, combined with my working knowledge, based on years as an active researcher, is evident in my teaching. In a recent school-based observation of my teaching, it was noted that, "your subject knowledge is fabulous".

I enjoy working with students of varying ages and abilities and take pride in encouraging students to reach their full potential. I am patient and understanding in my approach, which I will adapt to meet the strengths and needs of individual learners. I have an up-to- date knowledge of the national curriculum, enabling me to teach biology, chemistry, physics and maths at KS3 and KS4. I am experienced in teaching both AS and A2 level biology and chemistry.

I have years of experience as a tenured university lecturer where I taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. I have supervised 8 PhD students to successful completion of their thesis. Having interviewed numerous UCAS candidates for degree places, I can also offer advice to hone your personal statement.

Teaching Experience:

I was a Lecturer at the University of Nottingham for 8 years. During this time I taught a range of subjects on the undergraduate pharmacy degree programme, sat on the University examination board for the award of undergraduate degrees and supervised several PhD students to successful completion of their thesis.

I am now a full-time personal tutor with three years experience and over 40 GB of teaching resources which I use to support my teaching. I am a member of the Tutors Association, an independent regulatory body set up to ensure standards within the tuition industry and as such, I have signed up to their code of ethics.

I also have recent school-based teaching experience at secondary level. I am familiar with all the major examination boards (AQA, OCR, EdExcel, IB). I have worked with children who are gifted and talented and with special educational needs such as Asperger Syndrome, autism, ADHD, partial hearing and dyslexia. Having lived and worked abroad for a number of years, I also have experience of working with students for whom English is an additional language.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in taking a very individual approach to tutoring, adapting approaches and resources to fit the needs of the individual. Prior to commencing tuition, we will agree tuition goals and I will work with these to develop a personalized scheme of learning. During tuition I will monitor student progress and keep records of this so that learning and attainment can be tracked and approaches can be continually adapted to meet the developing needs of the learner.

However, most importantly of all, I believe learning should be fun. I am friendly and approachable and I work hard to ensure that students enjoy having tuition, which ultimately will maximise the progress they make.

I can carry out tuition in your home, in my own home, online or at an agreed public place (such as a library).

I offer small 2-2-1 or small group tuition in addition to 1-2-1 time. Please contact me to discuss rates for this service.

A 5% discount is offered to all students paying monthly in advance where more than 200 of tuition is booked.

Personal Description:
I am currently employed full time by a major international pharmaceutical company. I volunteer with STEMNET to teach science and maths lessons in school, encouraging young children to have more of an interest in these subjects and introducing them to potential career opportunities. I have a number of students at the moment in Hertfordshire and Essex, and enjoy tuition very much as I have a keen Interest in the subjects I teach and like to share that with others.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for the past two years, and have great recommendations from my students. Previously I would tutor adhoc for friends and family, but enjoyed it so much that I decided to make it more official.

Tutoring Approach:

I understand that all students are different and have different study needs. I like to take time to get to know the student and understand their difficulties. I know that for the most part students seek tuition because conventional education methods have failed them and so they need a more tailored approach, and the time to find their own way into the topic.

Personal Description:
Having focused my early life studying and tutoring Physics and Mathematics, I graduated from Kings College London, one of the Russell Group of universities with a 2.1. I took up an opportunity to train and work in Finance and Accounting, gaining experience working for organisations including the National Westminster Bank and a Fortune 500 company. Having spent over ten years successfully working in this area, I felt a change in direction and wanted to reengage in my original interest of teaching. As well as gaining work privately, I have been working as a tutor for several charities.

Teaching Experience:

Over 3 years experience tutoring Maths, Physics and Science. Duties have included assisting with homework, using workbooks to support the classroom led learning, working through past papers and running revision classes focusing on model answers and exam technique. I have been brought into schools to work with pupils and raise their attainment. Reliable and enthusiastic with a supportive approach.

Tutoring Approach:

While I do cover the methods and applications to worded problems, asking questions is at the heart of my tutoring. This is important because:
- A pupil can learn how to approach problems they are not familiar with.
- It enables the pupil to demonstrate their level of understanding.
- It helps the pupil to develop a deeper understanding of the material.

Personal Description:
I'm a final-year First Class LSE Economist with over four years' experience teaching 200+ students. I attained 11 A*s at GCSE; a 98.2% average at AS-Level, the highest in my year; 4 A*s in my self-studied A-Levels, achieving 100% in ten exams; and the top mark in my 2nd year at LSE, winning the "Economics Examiner Prize", and the "Rishi Madlani Award" for Macroeconomics. I own Enspire Academy, an 11+ creative learning tuition centre, and Advantage Maths and Advantage Economics, which offer Edexcel and AQA A-Level revision courses.

It may therefore surprise you to learn that I dropped out of school when I was seventeen to begin work as a private tutor, while studying for my A-Levels in my spare time. To put it simply: I hated school. It was either too fast or too slow for me. I became frustrated, outpaced and bored. My attendance dwindled through my GCSE years and by sixth form I realised my time at Sutton Grammar was better spent helping other students and independently studying for my own exams. My headmaster, to whom I am very grateful, was gracious enough to permit me to take my remaining exams at Sutton and to my former teachers'’ joint surprise, I achieved the highest AS-Level grades in the year and went on to receive offers to read Economics at LSE and Cambridge.

I am now fully committed to helping other students achieve their academic pursuits. After graduating, I plan to complete an MPhil in Economics at Cambridge, train at Oxford as a teacher, and then live the rest of my life doing what I love: tutoring!

Awards:
- Rishi Madlani Award: for the highest mark (91) in Macroeconomics (EC210) out of 600+ LSE students
- Economics Examiner Prize: outstanding merit in my 2nd year at LSE
- ifs Young Business Writer of the Year 2013: My article came 1st in the country
- Royal Economic Society Young Economist of the Year Competition: 3rd internationally out of 750 entries
- Harvard Prize: Highest grades in the year
- Young Enterprise Achiever of the Year 2012
- Jack Petchey Award for mentoring younger pupils and my general contributions to school life
- GCSE Prize & Business Prize

Teaching Experience:

At A-Level, I specialise in AQA and Edexcel Economics. I've been particularly successful at AS-Level where two of my students achieved full UMS (100%) in both modules (feel free to check my reviews). Over the past few years I've developed a wealth of adoptable and effective techniques, strategies and frameworks to help students achieve the very highest marks. I am currently working on a revision guide and Youtube tutorial series which will pull together an expansive collection of model answers, real world applications and evaluation points that I've created with students, teachers and examiners into a concise, comprehensive and understandable set of resources.

I also run Enspire Academy, an 11+ tuition centre which exploits creative teaching and new technology to deliver a highly effective and rewarding educational experience. Our focus on creative learning manifests itself in our content design: Pokemon Percentages, Disney Movie Script Writing and Verbal Reasoning Hangman have all proven to be huge hits with our students, while in no way detracting from their educational development. 11+ preparation can be crushingly dull; my aim is to turn it into a more stimulating, interesting experience for students, and work more to build academic skills that will endure beyond entrance examination.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm a big fan of technology so all notes are made on my iPad and lesson audio is recorded; both notes and audio are then synced to a Dropbox account for parents to access, allowing students to review past lessons (particularly useful around revision time) and parents to understand how best to help their child improve. I also use a screen capture software to create video tutorials, with my students as narrators, which leaves them with a wonderfully personalised set of revision resources and reduces lesson time wasted on repeating past content.

Strategy and mastery are key to exam success. Assessments take place before the first lesson so I can get an initial (admittedly sketchy) understanding of a student's profile. The first lesson is designed in reflection of assessment performance and aims to evaluate: potential achievement, current weaknesses and pace of learning. From here we can agree on targets and a route to achievement. I keep a spreadsheet of my students' past mistakes, which we habitually review in the lead up to final examination, while building a comprehensive series of revision materials (videos, recordings, flashcards and more). Repeat mistakes are tackled with an infinite question generator (for unlimited practice), past paper exercises, or, in more niche cases, I will design individualised worksheets to specifically address the problem topic.

I'm always happy to go into more complete detail about my approach - please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Personal Description:
I study Medicine at the University of Bristol and am soon to enter my 4th year at university having just intercalated in Physiological Science this year.
I am available to offer teaching over this Summer holiday.
I studied Chemistry, Biology and Psychology for A Levels and achieved an AS in Maths.
I'm aged 20 and very happy to help anyone who would like extra help with their studies over the summer.

Teaching Experience:

During my physiology degree I did a dissertation which involved teaching and supervising an A level biology class. During this time I helped teach the students their biology course as well as helping them with their university applications.
I have also supervised a Year 7 class as a mentor providing individual support to the children with their school studies.
As a drummer, I have provided one to one drum teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching style is an active approach; using lots of different techniques in order to make it informative and interesting.
I often use previous exam questions as well as different activities which aim to consolidate their learning.

Personal Description:
I recently completed my Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering at Imperial College in London where I graduated with Merits and was awarded First Class for my thesis research which I later went on to publish as a paper at the Society of Petroleum Engineering , I am now working as a professional engineer for a large oil&gas company.
Prior to my postgraduate, I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Surrey in Chemical Engineering where I achieved First Class Honours.

Teaching Experience:

Whilst at the University of Surrey, I worked on many events with the physics department to inspire and encourage young people (aged 7-16) to take on a career in Science and Engineering, events included school workshops and Physics Trial Days. Also offered tutoring support on Science and Mathematics related subjects to young people at schools.

Tutoring Approach:

My degrees have given me a broad knowledge in Mathematics and Science related subject and my passion to share this with younger people is the key driver for my interest in tutoring. I am able to offer structured and comprehensive support in Mathematics and Science for students studying for Key stage 2, 3, and 4 (primary and secondary school). I am also able to tutor younger children in English writing and reading. My experience as a student over the years has helped me develop my own techniques for exam preparation and revision which allow me to offer excellent support to students undergoing preparation for exams.
I am friendly, flexible and keen to encourage young people to do better at schools and go on to undertake further education.
