Currently Finishing a PhD in theoretical biophysics. Before that, completed an MSci in Theoretical physics from the University of Nottingham.

Teaching Experience:

As part of my degree I completed a module in communication skills, which included presenting physical topics to audiences with various levels of education (GCSE, A-Level, 1st year undergraduate). However, many hours in the University common room, both teaching and being taught by peers, has helped me greatly in my ability to verbalise concepts and ensure I am being understood. In addition I have 3 years of tutoring experience at the undergraduate level.

Tutoring Approach:

It depends very much on the pupil. Well motivated students often require structure. Students lacking motivation often require a constant sense of achievement and the maintenance of momentum. In terms of actual teaching style I prefer to open a dialogue and have discussion, rather than dictate questions or have pupils recall facts. Again, however, it depends on the purpose of the tutorial sessions and the abilities and motivation of the pupil.

I started training as a teacher shortly after leaving college. I had to abandon the idea in my last year due to my fathers untimely death. Students at all level are unique. Every child no matter what level they are work towards their best ability. I recently retired from teaching where I had been a class teacher and held posts of responsibility from core subject leader for English, Maths and science to Special Needs coordinator, Behaviour Manager and more recently a Head and Deputy headteacher.

I am very caring and supportive teacher who prides himself on preparing an individual support programme to meet the needs of the tutee and is delivered using approaches to match their learning styles and utilising approaches that support their learning.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in secondary and primary schools for over 30 years. For the last 25 years I have a been a primary school teacher and senior leader specialising in supporting children with special needs and especially those less and more able pupils with English and Maths.
In addition, I was a mentor in local secondary schools where I was responsible for supporting pupils aged 11-16 in a number of curriculum areas. These study skills, exam preparation, as well as, curricular areas like English, Maths and science. Many of whom where tutored on an individual basis.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor I believe it is important to follow some very key principles.
1. Always start from what the tutee knows therefore I always start with some sort of baseline analysis. This is always carried out in a very informal and relaxed manner. This enables me as a tutor you need to identify what he/she can and cannot do.
2. I am always happy to work closely with the tutees school if agreed/wanted to identify areas they are working on to support school work.
3. Work in an environment where the tuttee feels safe and comfortable. Very often this is at home in an area to work quietly.
4. Make the learning as much fun as possible and as appropriate and individual to their needs.
4.To create , as quickly as possible, a relationship with the tutee. They need to feel safe, comfortable and at ease - this makes both learning and teaching more effective.

Having been a part time participant of mainstream education until recently, and having tutored four different pupils at different levels in different subjects in that time, I have a clear understanding of the structure of current A-Level courses and the necessary requirements. All my previous pupils unanimously achieved high grades.

I'm a 22-year-old Physics graduate from Cambridge University living in South London. I received a first in Natural Sciences (specialising in Physics in the final two years) in my finals in May 2014. I went to school at Alleyn's Independent School in South London where I was School Captain and an academic scholar. I attained 10 A*s at GCSE, 4 A*s at A level (in Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths) and 5 As at AS level (in the above subjects and English). I taught myself the A2 Further Maths syllabus and got full marks in Chemistry.

Teaching Experience:

I've worked regularly as a tutor over the last four years and have approximately 200 hrs of lesson experience. I have taught nine students, aged 8-18, for longer than six months and can provide multiple references. Previous tuition has included;

GCSE Mathematics (Foundation and Higher) & Sciences, A-level Maths, Further Maths & Chemistry, 11+ Entrance and Oxbridge Applications.

Tutoring Approach:

The thing that makes one-on-one tutorials more effective than a group lesson is the potential for them to be student led. I try not to talk too much but instead favour practicing questions (particularly in mathematics) and getting the student to explain topics with a view to pin-pointing gaps in understanding. This way I add to what the student already knows rather than lecturing on what they may already understand.

I try and vary the sessions, particularly with younger students, in order to maintain concentration levels throughout. For example, in GCSE maths and science lessons I will try to work in a quiz mid-way through the lesson to avoid boredom.

More generally, I like to conduct relaxed and informal lessons because I think a student is far more likely to learn when they are not stressing.

Personal Description:
I'm 21 and about to begin my final year at the University of Warwick, studying French and International Relations. I love learning and sharing my knowledge with others, so tutoring is the perfect opportunity to do so. My passions are mainly to do with music and writing and I enjoy travelling.

Over the course of the last academic year, I spent 7 months living and working in Lille, the 4th largest city in France. I worked as an English Teaching Assistant in two different schools and my students were aged between 11 and 15. This was an amazing experience and quite daunting at first as I had to take groups of up to 15 students for lessons on my own after just two weeks of observing lessons with their teachers.

My desire is to do all that I can to help students improve in areas where necessary and develop or maintain enthusiasm for a subject, even though they may be having difficulty with it. Depending on the age of the students, I use a reward system for encouragement and a sense of achievement. I have no set curriculum but will shape my lesson plans around the needs of the student. Tutoring Approach:
