Personal Description:
I am a 26 year old Mathematics Graduate, recently working as a Statistican, living in Castleford, West Yorkshire. I believe learning is one of the most important parts of life and I thoroughly enjoy tutoring others and helping them with their learning. I am confident in tutoring my chosen subject of Mathematics and aim to improve others Mathematics skills.

Teaching Experience:

I believe I can help those struggling with Mathematics work of any kind and enjoy being given the opportunity to do so. I have over 7 years of tutoring experience, beginning with tutoring a 7 year old Key Stage 2 skills until she was 10 years old whilst at University. I then spent a year full time as a personal tutor - teaching students from 10 years of age to Adult and continue to tutor outside of my main job. Levels I have taught at are; Key Stage 2, Key Stage 3, GCSE, AS and A2 Level, University level and Adult Math courses. I mainly focus on GCSE and A Level (Core and Statistics). I have learnt to adapt my teaching methods to the individual and have a wide range of experience with different abilities.

In my last term at University, I chose to undertake a module entitled 'Mathematics in the Classroom' where I began observing two teachers and ended up teaching Statistic to an A-level class of Mathematics students. This experience developed my confidence in teaching and I learnt a great deal about how to communicate Mathematics to a group of students.

In previous years, I have volunteered in related areas: working with special needs children (aged 3 - 18), working with groups of children in after school hours (aged 5 - 11); Funfishers, and spent time in primary schools helping out wherever.

Tutoring Approach:

I set all my students homework to be completed by our next lesson as keeping up with Mathematics is all about putting in the practice of what is learnt in the lesson. Progress is made with all my students and their confidence regarding Mathematics has greatly improved. I aim to set targets for the student to achieve by the following lesson and concentrate on where the student struggles.

I like to encourage my students to ask questions if curious/unsure to aid their understanding as well as asking my students questions to ensure they are thinking about the subject and to check their understanding. I aim to pass on my knowledge and confidence in the Mathematical area.

Personal Description:
My greatest interest is my family - my husband and our four children aged 18, 17, 11, and 9. We enjoy many activities together, with the highlight being our summer holidays where we self-drive to various places in Europe.

I also love learning and have recently finished my A1 NVQ Assessors qualification.

As the mother of four children I have to be well organised and efficient. I enjoy a challenge and love teaching. I can work well alone or as part of a team and I believe I am an effective communicator.

Teaching Experience:

I am a very enthusiastic maths and ICT tutor. I have been teaching maths from Entry Level through to Level 2 for teaching assistants, adults in the community and young offenders. I also teach "Keeping up with the children" courses for parents wanting to help their children. Plus I tutor children in Years 10 & 11 on a 1-1 basis to help them with their GCSE Maths at Swavesey Village college.

Until recently I was tutoring ECDL, Advanced ECDL and CLAIT ICT qualifications at St Ivo Community College, ICT Skills for Life at St Barnabas Learning Centre, Huntingdon, as well as being a Tutor for Learndirect and an online tutor for Tribal CTAD. I am still working for Family Learning and I have recently been appointed as the Skills For Life Maths Co-ordinator for Cambridgeshire Library Learning Services.

Tutoring Approach:

I thoroughly enjoy my work. I relate well to children and adults. I believe its important to instill confidence and subscribe to an active learning approach with a variety of resources where possible. I also use a variety of alternative methods to meet individual learning needs as I firmly believe that one size does not fit all.

Personal Description:
I graduated with a first class undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Nottingham in June 2012. I come from Essex, where I attended Chelmsford County High School for Girls, where I undertook my GCSEs and A-levels in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Economics.

Teaching Experience:

Although I have no previous experience in personal tutoring, I have had relatively recent first-hand experience of GCSE and A-level examinations which I believe would aid me in understanding any problems tutees were undergoing with their studies. I have patience, as well as the ability to listen to what others are saying in order to help them in the best possible way.

Tutoring Approach:

As a recent student myself, I have used many different learning styles whilst studying for my own examinations. Therefore, I am open to use whichever learning style the tutee finds easiest, as well as suggesting ideas for other types of learning styles if they are having difficulty finding a style which suits them. I am always open to new ideas and learning styles, and as a young and creative person, am willing to invent new ways of teaching a topic if other methods are unsuccessful.

Teaching Experience:
Since I have been a student all my life so did not get a chance to tutor. However I have experience to work with young people as a "Tutor" in the state run TRIO program in USA. This job has given me a clear understanding and significance of a good education, promoting effective learning, teaching and personal development. This first hand skill of working with children of school age has made me patient, tolerant and has also given me an ability to respond positively to special educational needs. Having this experience would definitely facilitate me to translate my knowledge better to pupils and that surely would aid them to understand the basic concepts.

I have taught the undergrads in Virginia State University, USA under the state run TRIO program

Tutoring Approach:

Personal Description:
I am a 24 year old Physics graduate from the University of Birmingham. I have a passion for mathematics and physics, and enjoy teaching others.

Teaching Experience:

I have privately tutored both children and adults in GCSE and A-level Mathematics and Physics, to great success, often turning a fail into a good pass. I have a passion for the fields I teach, and am always happy to go that extra mile to ensure my students get the very best result they can.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to first gauge the individuals needs, liaising with their primary educator if possible, and designing a catered learning plan from there. From there, I and the tutee can focus on those topics that need the most attention. Assessing home work, school work, and past papers, would also be included.

Personal Description:
I am an undergraduate studying Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. I have recently completed my first year of study of a four-year course, gaining a distinction in the process. My academic results have been consistently excellent, providing me with a firm understanding of my chosen subjects.
I enjoy engaging people with new and potentially challenging ideas, encouraging them to progress academically. The exchange of ideas between tutor and tutee is something that I particularly enjoy and continue to focus on.

Teaching Experience:

My most notable tutoring experience was tutoring a young person, in Key Stage 3, in their studies for four to six hours a week for about two years. I was paid to tutor in all his subjects and my work mostly consisted of expanding on the syllabus, reviewing his homework and preparing him for tests. The tutee was not of English origin and a significant part of my work included improving his English. The pupil achieved top set for all his subjects as well as consistently high grades.
Secondly, I have gained tutoring experience overseeing a group of around twenty male pupils in Key Stage 2 and 3, providing constructive help with their homework and classwork. This was done for one hour per week for approximately six months as part of a Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award. A key part of this experience was keeping the boys on task and focused.
Thirdly, I spent two years in the RAF Combined Cadet Force during sixth form where I rose to the rank of Sergeant. As a senior cadre, I was expected to do numerous presentations to the cadets informing them on the ethics, workings and history of the RAF as well as some of the principles of flight and navigation. This particularly provided me with great confidence to not only engage a variety of people but also communicated difficult and at times relatively dry subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is fundamentally based on incentive and reward. I believe a small bribe of chocolate biscuits, gold stars etc. can go a long way towards motivating the tutee. I also aim to provide inventive exercises for the pupil, for example, with my young male tutee an exercise in learning vocabulary would be turned into some sort of game, typically with a small competitive element added in.
Ultimately, I wish for the tutee to gain an interest in a particular field of study and by presenting topics in an interesting light I feel they are able to do so.

Personal Description:
I have just completed my second year at The University of Nottingham studying Physics. I am very passionate about maths and science, and would love the opportunity to help improve the experience of these subjects for other people. I think summer can be a very valuable time for extra tuition to either get the subject up to speed or up to date in time for the coming academic year.

I studied my GCSEs at Archbishop Holgate's School and attained 11 A*s and 1 A. I then continued my education at York College where I achieved an A* for Further Maths, As in Physics and Maths, a B for chemistry and an A at AS Level Philosophy.

During summer, I enjoy returning home to York with my family and like to keep myself busy. In my free time, I enjoy reading novels (particularly books in the fantasy genre), playing the guitar and piano, and playing tennis.

Teaching Experience:

I have had a couple of tutees, and have really loved the experience. It has been both challenging and rewarding, and I have picked up some good approaches to teaching various topics. My experience has also highlighted the different styles that are necessary to best engage with the individual tutee.

In addition to this, in 2011 I took a 3 month skiing course which enabled me to become a qualified CSIA (Canadian Ski Instructor's Alliance) Level 2 Instructor. During this course, under the guidance of an instructor, we would practise delivering lessons to each other. There were around 35 people on my course, and so I learnt how to tailor my teaching approach to the individual. I have also shadowed two actual ski lessons, and in both cases (one with a group of around 6, the other with just one person) I was allowed to take charge, which was an incredibly valuable experience.

Tutoring Approach:

I learnt a lot from my aforementioned experiences about the best way to approach teaching, which I think would be transferable to any subject. The way in which people learn greatly varies, and so I always try to get a sense of the person before deciding on the best approach to take. Where I can, I try to be creative, as this will make the lesson more interesting for both the student and myself. I would try to find out the interests and motivations of the student, and apply this to my teaching style. Particularly with a subject like physics, you can apply the underlying concepts to almost anything, which can help to bring challenging concepts to life.

Personal Description:
I am easy to get on with, enthusiastic and dedicated. I enjoy a wide range of activities from playing the piano to playing rugby. In 2012 I graduated with a 1st class BSc in Medical Biochemistry and am now currently studying post-graduate medicine at the University of Warwick.

Teaching Experience:

My first experience of teaching came when I was asked to mentor pupils further down my school and help them to read and write. In later years I also helped S.E.N children with ways to overcome some of the challenges that they face, for example techniques to learn spellings or equations. Whilst at university I also helped a number of people with not only theoretical aspects of the course but also with practical elements as well. One of my proudest successes was when I tutored a student on a different course who had never encountered quadratic equations before. By the end of the term she achieved one of the highest marks in the year (>80%). I have also been asked by several peers to help them with communication and presentation skills.
I have worked as a Carer specialising in Children with special educational needs (S.E.N). During my time with them I try to teach them interesting things about the wider world, whilst also helping them with basic safety skills such as how to cross the road.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to work with my tutees and help them to identify any problems they have. One of ways I like to do this, is by getting the tutee to explain the topic to me. This allows me to try and identify if there is a misunderstanding in their prior knowledge that might be impeding their current learning. Once the trouble areas have been uncovered I will work methodically through the topic using a variety of techniques to help them gain the knowledge they require. After a tutee has come to grips with the topic, I ask them to explain again the whole topic to me in any way that they see fit (be it a presentation or written prose it is up to them!). Not only will this help to instill a confidence in their own knowledge but also aid in teaching valuable communication skills that will be beneficial throughout their life.

Personal Description:
I graduated in 2012 from Cambridge university with a Masters degree in Natural Sciences, with my area of interest being Chemistry. As well as being a dedicated and determined sportsman - rugby is one of my great passions - I have always regarded myself as a helpful and kind person. This was particularly important during my time volunteering at the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games as an assistant to the Serbian Olympic & Paralympic Committees respectively. This also made use of my bilingual talents (both my parents are Serbian).
I am currently 23 years old and working full time, but am keen to stay available for tutoring. Best times would be after 7pm on weekday evenings.

Teaching Experience:

A handful of tutoring jobs for Summer 2013 A-level Maths.
I have a hard-working attitude that has served me well in all my pursuits thus far; academic, sporting & voluntary duties included. I have a 16 year old brother who has just started his A-Level courses, so I have been called on to give him a nudge in the right direction with some of his maths & science homework in the past!

Tutoring Approach:

Given my maths & chemistry background, I work methodically and would focus on ensuring every step is understood before moving on. I believe that understood principles should then be suitably demonstrated in practical examples and questions.
I am a relaxed and sociable person though, and understand that everyone thinks slightly differently, so would use multiple approaches if a tutee struggles initially with the concepts presented to them.

I keep myself busy with:
-tutoring
-looking after my family
-walking my dog
-baking
-gardening
-reading
-off road cycling

Teaching Experience:

I have been a Mathematics teacher since 2001 and have been a Head of Department for Mathematics, a Learning Zone Coordinator for Mathematics and ICT and also a Mathematics Consultant for a local City Council.

I have experience of working with both Primary and Secondary School children but my career as a teacher has been mainly in Secondary Schools.

I have also taught English at lower GCSE level (up to grade C).

Tutoring Approach:

I am very kind, sympathetic and non judgemental in my approach to tutoring and work very hard to make sure that all my students feel confident when working with me - it is vitally important that students do not feel embarrassed when making a mistake as this prevents them from learning.

I fully encourage and help to develop each student's confidence in mathematical discussions which allows them to think through mathematical problems when they are doing school work or taking an examination.

All of my previous GCSE students have achieved A* to C grades.

Personal Description:
I am a 20 year-old undergraduate student in the University of Birmingham, following a degree in mathematics.

Teaching Experience:

In 2010-2012 I was the initiator of a volunteer project called 'Fairy tales in Pictures'. The project involved working, communicating and interacting with children with learning difficulties, playing games with them and teaching them simple things. This was an opportunity to develop my communication and listening skills regarding various kinds of people, becoming extremely aware of the difficulties children can have with learning and understanding new things, and how these difficulties can be tackled.
I have helped my 11-year-old sister a lot with her maths and English language-related lessons over the years. This has helped me understand children better and sense when they are in need for more training and explanation in particular areas. I have also helped friends' children with their problems, offering help, guidance and advice.

Tutoring Approach:

The key method to learning mathematics is by solving problems and dealing with examples. My approach is to give a clear explanation on the theory and then focus on different types of examples to help children understand things through practice. After several examples, I encourage children to attempt problems themselves at first, then ask questions and give small hints, guiding the child to attain the correct answer as independently as possible. I give homework for children to practice their newly acquired knowledge, and I check if they've done the homework correctly on the next lesson.

I am a Chemical Engineering student at the University of Manchester, in the third year of my undergraduate degree. I have also studied Engineering Science for two years at Oxford University.
I am bilingual in Egyptian Arabic and know a good amount of Quranic and Classical Arabic too.

Teaching Experience:

Not extensive, though I did run an Arabic for Beginners course with a student society, and I have essentially taught my colleagues at university some electronics we needed for our course that I knew from before. I've also worked with young people at summer schools in 2011 and 2012 as a counsellor.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to be informal, upbeat and friendly, but it is important that the learner should be focused, inquisitive and committed to learn. Basically, I try to avoid an air of formality, but I take things seriously.

Please note I may have time constraints during term time so please get in touch before buying contact details to make sure we're both available.

Personal Description:
I am doctorate degree holder in mathematics. My specialization lies in "mathematical physics", which aims to develop mathematical methods for certain fundamental physics problems. Having a solid background in both mathematics and physics at university level, I am providing one-to-one tutorials in all math/physics-related subjects. Precisely, I can simply help you to pass exams; improve your math skills; develop your report/thesis or make you appreciate the beauty of the discipline.

The main reason that I am interested in giving tutorials is that doing teaching activities arises as a natural way for me to continue my academic career and to perform independent research. Notice that I graduated from the Ecole Normale systems in France where teaching was an important ingredient in the programme. I had some teaching experiences at the university level both in the Uk and in France (where I did my Bachelor and Master degrees).

Teaching Experience:

I participated actively in the teaching activities inside the university, both as an undergraduate demonstrator and as an individual tutor, throughout my PhD training. As an undergraduate demonstrator, I covered the exercise classes of two first year's modules: Programming labs (2010 - 2013) and Probability & Statistics tutorials (2011 - 2013) and one second year's module: LaTeX labs (2011 - 2013). As an individual tutor, I helped students in various topics in mathematics and physics at the undergraduate level.

Throughout my teaching experience, I have trained myself to improve the way in communicating with students and to making my explanations more explicit, on the basis of respect and patience. I have also gained noticeable confidence and ability to lead classes composed of large amounts of students. As a result, I have been having every year the best students' attendance, in the modules that I covered, amongst my colleagues, and a good relationship with students has always been maintained.

Tutoring Approach:

As an experienced and patient teacher at university level (actually I had a proper training in pedagogy when I did my Master degree), the first thing I can guarantee and I am always requiring myself to possess is a solid understanding of the subjects that my students are interested. So my approach would be based on a direct transmission of my comprehension of the subjects.

Practically, depending on your requires, I can focus either on more exercise-oriented materials to help you to pass exams, or on more theoretical stuffs that can lead you to a better understanding of the discipline. Students are suggested to send me their materials before the start of each session, so that I can have a careful preparation.
