I live near Cromer and the nearest large town is Norwich. Norwich is full of interest, with its university, rich culture and fine architecture. I love the Norfolk countryside and have the opportunity here to visit our beautiful RSPB reserves on the North Norfolk coast. Personal Description:
Hello! I am 37 years old, originally from Denmark and moved to the UK 12 years ago for my degree. Before teaching, I worked as a monkey veterinary technician in the US, conducted my Masters research on crop-raiding macaques in Indonesia, and helped to run a volunteer expedition in the Amazon. After a couple of years of teaching in secondary school as a Science and Spanish teacher, I heard the call of the wild again and travelled for a year through Mexico and Central America. I am now working for an independent school in the Rochdale area and have gained experience tutoring a wide range of subjects and a wide range of ages.

I have an up to date enhanced CRB.

Teaching Experience:

I completed my teaching degree in 2007 at Canterbury Christ Church University. I trained in two very different types of schools, private Catholic school and selective high school, which gave me the experience to engage students of different abilities and backgrounds. I also received training to teach EAL and SEN students. My teaching qualification is in Science, but as a fluent Spanish linguist I have also taught Spanish to both adults and children. I teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics up to GCSE level, and other subjects I currently teach include Maths up to GCSE level and English up to Key Stage 3.

Tutoring Approach:

Students, young and old, don't like subjects they don't think they can succeed in. My approach is to break down material, relate it to everyday life and interests, and positively reinforce all the way to build up confidence. I am stubborn (!) and I don't give up until it's mastered.

I am 33 years old and currently live in London. I am originally from Derbyshire in the north of England. I'm married with three children, currently in their late teens and early twenties, and with my wife have gone through the parental anguish of public and university exams every year since 2006 and will potentially do so until 2017!

I'm a professionally qualified accountant with an honours mathematics degree and a postgraduate certificate in education. I've had a career working in local government finance, supporting managers in managing their service budgets. I have particular interest in the relevant computer applications (e.g. spreadsheets), financial training and quality issues.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching practice at a Reading school.
Written and presented well-received financial training materials.
I've supported service managers with often limited numeracy ability to manage multi-million pound budgets.
While only one of my three children has a natural leaning towards scientific subjects, they got A, A* & B at Maths GCSE (fairly light-touch parental support, rather than any intensive tutoring).

Tutoring Approach:

While always mindful of the immediate goal to pass exams and "get the grades", I endeavour to instill real understanding of the subject. While it would be great to hear I've helped turn a C into an A, I'd just as much hear that someone no longer fears or hates maths lessons.

I'm no computer geek, but over the years I've learnt to solve most problems thrown up by my machines at home and at work and have used them in a variety of practical ways. I can perhaps show you that you are capable of more than a few emails and web browsing on your machine. I can help take the fear out of that unattractive box and its tangle of cables.

Financial management for non-accountants: Are you one of those people given the responsibility to manage a budget at work, but feel you are lacking a bit of confidence and some of the skills to do it properly? I am a Cambridge graduate and a full-time, professional tutor with a friendly approach to tutoring, placing emphasis on confidence-building as well as knowledge attainment.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring at varying levels, from 11+ to University, for nearly three years, and am now a full-time tutor working for agencies, institutions, local authorities and private clients. Most of this work has been preparation for a particular exam, although I have also had students who are studying just for the enjoyment of it. I feel well-suited to being 'on the other end' of the one-to-one style of teaching that I benefited from at university.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is friendly and informal. I prefer to let the tutee dictate the pace of a session by encouraging them to interrupt or ask me to repeat when we hit upon work they are not fully understanding.

I have found that the most efficient use of a tutoring session is for me to first outline the theory of what we are going to study in that session to the student, and then use the remainder of the time to work through questions with the student as they become progressively more comfortable with the content until, ultimately, they feel able to answer the questions alone.

The content of the sessions is always tailored to the particular qualification the student is working towards, and the student has complete autonomy over what we study together.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer making the student understand the concepts. Which is not something tutors do anymore.
I don't just make them memorize. you'd be surprised how much more you can retain when you understand the underlying concept.
If you forget something or a formula, you can work it out from what i have taught you.
it is an approach that all of my tutees have loved so far, and they all come back for the following years. haven't had a single tutee who hasn't been extremely satisfied and all of them were of course happy with the A grades they achieved.

Hi, I'm James! I'm a half-English, half-Italian 18-Year old currently living in Blackheath, London. I have recently finished my International Baccalaureate (IB) course at Dartford Grammar School for Boys, in which i achieved a score of 42 points out of 45, which equates to either 5 A's at A-Level or 3 A*'s (a hard comparison to make, and one that I feel still undervalues the work done in the IB). I attended the now converted Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Margarets, Lee primary schools, and attended Dartford Grammar School for Secondary school. I am currently taking a gap year before attending Exeter to study Economics and Politics with Spanish.

Besides my studies, I enjoy reading, sports, current affairs, traveling and music. I have begun to read Spanish novels/current affair books/newspapers in order to expand my knowledge of Spanish, and partake in athletic and football sessions on a regular basis.

I have spoken English and Italian simultaneously since a young age, and teachers have said my Spanish is basically at a fluent level. I've traveled around Latin America for a few months on my gap year, which greatly helped my Spanish, and I'm now starting to learn French.

Teaching Experience:

I have done a weeks work experience in my local primary school, St. Margarets, where I was involved with tutoring pupils of different abilities, ages and some with learning difficulties. I have also done my best to help my mother with real-life maths issues (finances, purchases, borrowing) which i assure you is the same experience as tutoring a child...!
I've now done 3 tutoring jobs (2 through this site), all of which were at different age groups: one was for primary school, one was secondary/GCSE and one was adult beginner. Myself and the students have all thought the sessions have been beneficial and I think they've also helped me improve as a tutor and tailor my knowledge to different age-groups/abilities.

Tutoring Approach:

I have achieved highly at all education levels, though I believe it is more important that I feel like I've ended compulsory education with a good level of knowledge in the areas I am interested in (and some I am not) as opposed to simply having studied extensively to pass written exams. I believe that exams can be too straightforward in some aspects, and that there is far more that could be taught in each discipline that would be beneficial to the student. Because of this, I have always tried to ensure I have a solid understanding of my areas of interest as opposed to having a superficial understanding that does little more than tick boxes. I achieved 6 points higher than I was predicted by my school in final exams (essentially the difference between a B/C and an A* in two subjects) due to ensuring that I knew what I thought was best for me as opposed to merely what I was told, and unfortunately I was prevented from applying to the prestigious universities such as Cambridge due to a lack of faith from my school. I have learnt that getting something wrong is merely the first step to gettin something right- one of the best ways to learn something properly is to get it wrong first, see where one has gone wrong and correct it. I have always believed there is no issue in this, as there is a large risk of ending up simply regurgitating information if you try to 'drill it' into your head first time without stopping to understand. Obviously there is exceptions where a 'Yes/No' answer is needed, especialy in Maths, but even so one has to understand the logic behind it to work something out; you'd have a hard time trying to remember every answer to every maths problem ever.
To synthesise, I try to bring logic and reasoning to every aspect of the subject covered, which is necessary even from primary school level to form a solid basis on which to build in the future. For the purpose of communicating with younger children I know that it's necessary to build a bond to get them to listen to you, and I believe I am fairly approachable and an effective communicator. Also, I assure you I don't use as much complex vocabulary in person and I assure you that I am eloquent yet conversational.
