Personal Description:
See what some of my previous students have to say about me:

Samuel has a quiet and unassuming manner which worked well with our lively teenage son who had previously been a little disinterested in Maths. Our son commented:- "that he had understood more from Samuel in three months than during his entire GCSE course at full time school ".
I commend Samuel highly. He is honest, friendly, reliable, quiet and exceptionally well qualified. He has a very good understanding of a child's needs and personality. Our son's result speaks for itself.
(John Jeffrey, Wallingford)

In my son's own words - "I wish all my teachers at school would take the same approach, I am able to understand & grasp his teaching methods clearly."
(Etrily Williams, Didcot)

You were patient and calm in all your dealings with Lucy.
Thank you for your help and best wishes for the future.
(Rhonda Telford, Wootton)

We are absolutely delighted with the work Samuel has done with our daughter. She has gained enormous confidence through his patience and wonderfully clear instruction. Never an academic high flier, she has moved on leaps and bounds through his help. We have had outside help before, but none with the success she has achieved with Samuel. We have the highest confidence in him and would recommend him to any friend.
(Dr Bart van Es, Oxford)

I found Samuel to be pleasant, patient and thorough and my son was pleased to find that he was able to discuss some topics in which he was particularly interested, at a greater depth than was actually required for the exams, during the lessons. I am pleased to say that my son achieved A grades in Physics, Chemistry and Biology on the higher tier papers this summer, following his revision sessions with Samuel.
(Lynda Mayne, Blewbury)

Samuel's tuition helped me to understand and achieve a good grade in a subject that I found difficult. He was easy to talk to and willing to go over and over concepts until I understood. Without Samuel's help, I would not have achieved the grade I did.
(Georgia Manning, Didcot)

I think that Samuel helped me significantly in my physics work, having the chance to work one on one with someone that clearly understands the subject to a great depth is far better than the class room environment.
(Elliot Gasper, Harwell)

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified teacher, with six years' experience of teaching at secondary school. I also have over six years' experience of one-to-one teaching. I have helped students of all levels of ability prepare for their exams. Get in touch to discuss how I can help you too.

Tutoring Approach:

It can be easy to get lost in a class. Private tuition, though, is all about you. What you need, what you find confusing, what you want to learn.

Come to a session with an area you want to go over, a topic you don't understand or just some homework that you don't get. I promise you that no question will ever be too stupid, no matter how many times you think you have asked it before. We will go over it until we find a way that makes sense to you.

When you don't understand a topic, it is usually because there are some gaps in your knowledge further back - especially in subjects like maths and science. I will help you to find those gaps and fill them in. This often means that topics that used to be just a confusing mass of rules and equations suddenly start to make sense.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Tutoring Approach:

My approach I believe is a successful one. I begin with an understanding of HOW an individual learns best such as visual, audio or tactile/kinaesthetic. Once this has been established, all tutoring will be adapted to suit the needs of the learner. Next would be to determine the students original interest in the subject and the motivation behind wanting to succeed at it. Organisation is a crucial factor which I will offer students support with through time management. Students undertaking A levels wishing for assistance with a UCAS application can be supported with this as I have 8 years experience of preparing students for university. It is very important that whoever I tutor makes a commitment to supporting their own education. I can support learning but I will not do it for the student, instead getting the student to work out what their blocks to education are and to work around them are far more important for lifelong learning.

Personal Description:
Confidence is often the stumbling block for learners, and I always encourage all of my students to feel an early sense of achievement. Enabling students to see real progress quickly is essential to the building of self-esteem. I am very approachable and my style of teaching is relaxed and friendly. I love my job and hope that my own enthusiasm inspires my students to excel. Recently I have added French to my repertoire, for absolute beginners. I am sure French will be as popular and exciting as English has been.

Teaching Experience:

I have been an English teacher since 1976. I have taught all age groups, from nursery to A Level. Teaching is a wonderful and totally satisfying vocation. I moved across to tutoring as I felt I could offer all of my experience in this role. Being a teacher is definitely something I was born to do, and I love it.

Tutoring Approach:

Students can learn by either visiting my home or at a distance using Skype. Every student is assessed as an individual and the content of their course tailored to their needs. I test my students periodically to ensure progress is going smoothly; also testing is a good way for students to observe their own progress. We use a variety of materials: books for writing and reading, the computer for visual skills and games, listening and speaking is a major part of the programme for EFL students. Children learn in different ways, and I like to offer my students visual, auditory and kinetic tools, we can see which is most comfortable for the individual. The speed of learning is not as important as the confidence of the individual and their inspiration and motivation to progress.

Lisa is extremely good at making the understanding of Physics easier and will happily explain principles thoroughly until you understand. Lisa also provided lots of past exam papers which i found extremely helpful. Lisa is also very easy to get along with and very welcoming.'

From Teresa (5/5): (GCSE Maths, Physics and Chemistry) 'Lisa has been working with our 15 year old son to prepare him for his maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics GCSEs as well as helping him to master some study skills and to be better organised in his school work and homework. He has shown significant improvement in a very short space of time with Lisa's support. He enjoys his lessons and has gained a better, more in-depth understanding of the subject matter. Lisa is reliable, friendly and flexible in her ability to cover a broad range of subjects. I would recommend Lisa without hesitation. (August 2012)

From Ian (July 2012) 'Lisa coached our grammar school student son during the last two months of his GCSE physics study and made a real improvement to his level of understanding. I know that the tutoring will have definitely improved his grade.

We found her to be polite, understanding and easy to work with. My son felt at ease with her and she was flexible and able to accommodate our needs at short notice. I would definitely recommend her.'

From Christine (5/5): (A-Level Physics) 'Always punctual and worked hard with our son on improving his Physics.' (June 2012)

From Louise (5/5): (A-Level Physics) 'Three months ago our son was struggling with AS Level Physics. Lisa's organised approach has given him the confidence to tackle the subject and hopefully achieve a very good grade. Highly recommended. Louise.' (1st June 2012)

'From Bridget (5/5): (GCSE Maths) So far so good! George is really enjoying his lessons which is great as he had been put off Maths by an uninspiring teacher at school.
Keep up the good work. '(May 2012)

'Many thanks to Lisa for working with both my teenage girls who have differing abilites. Lisa was able to identify their individual needs and provide work which supported their learning styles and range of understanding. LG 3.1.12. Score 5/5'

Personal Description:
I am an English, Maths, History and Science tutor who specialises in teaching children at both Primary School and GCSE level. I am currently an Undergraduate Student studying Sociology at the University of Nottingham and I believe that my age, adaptability and having undertaken GCSEs and A-levels not too long ago helps me relate to younger students and understand where they may be having difficulties.

Studied at The Latymer School, Haselbury Road, Edmonton, London N9 9TN from 2005 to present.

From 2007 to 2010, I studied nine GCSE subjects and I achieved six A-star Grades in Business Studies, Core Science, English Language, English Literature, History and Mathematics and three A Grades in Additional Science, Drama and French respectively.

My specialist subjects include English Literature (achieved an A* at GCSE and B at A-level), English Language (achieved an A* at GCSE), Mathematics (achieved an A* at GCSE), History (achieved an A* at GCSE and A at A-level) and Science (A* in Additional Science GCSE and A in Core Science GCSE).

I am currently studying Sociology at the University of Nottingham.

Teaching Experience:

- Work Placement as a Classroom Assistant for two weeks at Garfield Primary School, Arnos Grove
- Regularly tutor two younger brothers
- Been a private tutor since February 2012

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is student-centred. I believe that each student has a unique way of learning and understanding. As a tutor, I try to relate to the student and see through their eyes what they might find complicated. I cover the individual topic with the student, placing emphasis on the problem areas and then ask them to explain back to me what I taught them. I then use exercises, essays and past papers are then necessary to test the student's knowledge and to familiarise them with the format of each exam. The whole process is very interactive and I encourage students to stop me if clarification is needed and try to get them talking about the subject more comfortably.

Personal Description:
I graduated from the University of Warwick with a BSc (Hons) Mathematics and Physics. I am currently undertaking an Intercollegiate Masters course in Theoretical Physics at Queen Mary University of London and University College London. I am a keen footballer and runner with an outgoing personality and great charisma.

Teaching Experience:

I have guided the positive development of over 10 GCSE/A level students from C to A as well as their personal statements for university. I managed to improve their fundamental skills. This experience, along with my engaging personality has allowed me to polish my interpersonal skills and become a very effective communicator. I completed a teaching course at the University of Warwick, which gave me a first hand experience of teaching in a school; I independently organised and taught 3 lessons, which received positive feedback.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a flair for making demanding concepts more accessible to others. This is due to my awareness of the nuances of topics and my firm command of the subject matter. I allow students to understand novel concepts by translating them into ideas that are their own. Students can then independently deduce the theories leading to a firm comprehension. I focus hugely on improving their ability to identify the underlying logical structure of a theory as it allows the students to test and confirm the validity of the concepts.

Personal Description:
I am hoping to study Physics at Sussex University in September and I have always enjoyed Maths and the Sciences. I attended King Edward VI Grammar School.

Teaching Experience:

I've tutored a few Key Stage 3 pupils and thoroughly enjoyed this. I also used to instruct cadets in my school's cadet force and I took part in a project to teach year 9 pupils ICT.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to tutor through example, helping the pupil work through several questions before allowing them to attempt one themselves. I find this allows the pupils to understand the process through which the question is completed.

Personal Description:
I am a third year medical student at Imperial College London. Having just graduated from secondary school I feel that I am an ideal candidate to help ease the challenges of school subjects for students.

During my school career I achieved 8 A* and 4 A's. Furthermore I achieved 1 A* and 3 A's during my A levels, additionally I also achieved another A at As level in Further Maths. My AS physics grade was the best in my year achieving. 296/300 UMS. I have participated in the UK maths challenge achieving the bronze and silver award.

Teaching Experience:

I helped teach many students from younger years in a range of subjects and enjoyed watching them progress and improve. I think the fact that having just been through what most of these students are going through gives me a slight advantage due to my knowledge being recent and up to date. I also have experience in teaching A-level Maths as well as GCSE Maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I am patient and calm in my approach and try to ensure that each of my students understands the concepts of what I am teaching. I appreciate that each student is different and the approach taken to each of them must remain flexible.

Personal Description:
I recently graduated from Oxford University (Christ Church) with a BA (Hons) in History of Art, and am now reading for an MA in History of Art at the Courtauld Institute. Aside from studying I am learning Italian, enjoy playing piano and keeping up to date with current exhibitions, plays and concerts. I travel as widely as possible and enjoy enriching my academic work with the unique experiences and case studies such travel may afford.

Teaching Experience:

Since August this year I have been tutoring a number of clients in London at KS3 and GCSE level, in English, Sciences and Mathematics.
Additionally, during my A Level year I tutored of GCSE students, gaining a 100% A -C pass rate.

Tutoring Approach:

Having attended some of the most academically intensive institutions in the country, I am well suited to provide academic support and guidance to those wishing to improve their achievement, from primary to degree level.
I believe that the role of a private tutor is to create a tailor made, interactive and stimulating environment in order to help students grow and explore within their subject. I believe instilling confidence is key to this approach - I am a patient, friendly and approachable tutor and work hard to encourage an atmosphere in which honest discussion and a lack of self consciousness when learning are paramount. I provide support for all aspects of learning, from discussing homework to improving core skills.

I am familiar with exam board requirements for each subject, and as a tutor work towards success in exams, but also towards a greater enrichment above and beyond curricula.

I have considerable experience in tutoring students at GCSE, A-Level and, in particular, for the University of Cambridge entrance examinations (Sixth Term Examination Papers, STEP). I also self-taught both Maths and Further Maths A-Levels, three years ahead of my peers.

Personal Description:
I'm a native Mandarin speaker who graduated with an Msc degree from the University of Warwick. I have a good command of Cantonese after only three years of studying and working in Hong Kong. I passed and gained the highest level of both Mandarin and English qualification in China when I was in university. Many people find learning a foreign language boring and difficult to progress, however I have a unique way of learning & teaching when it comes to tedious parts like memorizing vocabulary or dealing with differences in sentence structure, which makes it interesting yet easy to pick up. I would very much like to share this with you!

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring privately since 2005, and I have significant experience teaching Mandarin & Cantonese across all levels and ages.

Tutoring Approach:

Tailored and adaptable teaching approach - letting you spend more time on topics and learning points that you find interesting or challenging, all at the ideal level, pace and learning style for you. A tailor-made course is the perfect way to accelerate your Chinese learning. With extra attention paid to your individual goals and needs, you will soon be conversing confidently in Chinese!

Periodic practice-focus course - after a certain amount of tutor-focus courses, practice-focus courses will be held from time to time, with contents based on topics learned recently; the intensive nature of this course will create a good language environment and give you solid periods of practice, and you will be surprised at the speed of your progress!

Flexible teaching time - if your schedule doesn't allow for a regular timetable, the time and location of the next class can be decided on at the end of each session.

Personal Description:
Hello,
I'm 18 years old and have worked since I left school. I, on occassions, baby sit for family and friends.
I'm an outgoing and happy young woman with a passion for teaching and tutoring, my favourite subjects at school were maths, psychology and sociology, child care and law.

Anything else you would like to know I will be more than happy to answer.

Teaching Experience:

My experience is not qualification based but I have in the past been asked to tutor foster children, including those with special needs and challenging behaviour.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring differentiates from person to person.
I find where the person is struggling, what kind of motivation they will respond to and go from there. I try to stay away from text books because I find that if it is possible to explain and show the student it is easier to understand rather than just showing them what to do.

Personal Description:
I am currently completing a dissertation for a Master's Degree at the University of Oxford.

I have achieved a First Class degree in English from Goldsmiths, University of London, graduating with the highest degree mark.

In two years time I will be applying for a PhD in English Literature. In the meantime I am writing a conference paper on Gender and Happiness and working on some journal articles but really I see tutoring as a full time job, one that I am very committed to.

Teaching Experience:

Aside from tutoring, I have helped to run a large children's book department in a branch of Waterstones. In this role I designed and implemented fun and engaging reading events, giving me skills in keeping children focused over extended periods of time.

As a Student Advisor at Goldsmiths, University of London, I constructed and ran academic writing workshops for first year English BA students. My sessions focused on how to shape essays in accordance with the mark scheme. I also offered one-to-one sessions based on individual student needs.

I am currently tutoring several students for their Entrance Examinations. I am living and working closely with a relative who has 18 years tutoring experience, also specialising in English. Between us we have amassed a wealth of resources; I have the materials, test papers and lesson plans in order to offer appropriate and directed tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer a comfortable atmosphere, allowing students to grow in confidence. My sessions are tailored to each student's needs; offering a different learning experience from the classroom, while always remaining focused on the requirements of the exam board.

Typically I will spend the first session ascertaining the student's strengths and weaknesses, based upon informal assessments and a discussion with them. I then go on to construct lessons specifically in accordance with their requirements. This flexible, tailored approach allows for quick progress.

Moreover, I am actively engaged in researching my field and bring these insights into my lesson plans. I always come to sessions with a high level of preparation; I find that this allows the student to feel that they are being invested in and that they are part of a working team.

Personal Description:
Hello fellow mathematicians!

I'm Chris, a 23 year old maths PhD student at Brunel University. I was originally granted a School Studentship to fund my studies but then soon after starting my research I was upgraded to an ESPRC grant. I study maths because I enjoy it, and enthusiasm to teach it comes part of this package. For A-level and higher I specialize in pure maths, so algebra, calculus etc so if you happen to be struggling with areas such as these then I'm your guy. Any level lower than A-level I will also be happy to help with.

I do not have a current CRB check but I'm sure I could get one if it is needed - I haven't commited any crimes trust me.

Teaching Experience:

Whilst in 6th form and during my undergraduate years I often went back to my secondary school to help out in the maths department.

For the past academic year I have taught many seminars for foundation, 1st and 2nd year undergraduates. These have ranged from 2-100 students per seminar.

I tutored in the Maths Cafe which is to aid student's revision before their summer examinations.

Tutoring Approach:

Since I only graduated a year ago, I understand and can relate to difficulties students may face. With this in mind, I can offer the best form of tutoring in a way that I feel would have definitely helped me.
