Personal Description:
I`m passionate about mathematics and I love teaching it. While I understand that students and their parents are usually looking for a tutor to improve their grades (and my students do get high grades and get into top universities) I also believe it's important to concentrate on understanding as well as learning. Exam success is greatly helped by understanding where the mathematics comes from and how it is used.

My philosophy is "more than higher grades". I believe it is not enough simply to do well at A level, students need to be given the tools to succeed at university. To that end I take a very full interest in their education generally. As one student recently put it, I am "so much more than just a maths tutor". For example I give guidance and support with university entrance, including the UCAS personal statement and Oxbridge applications and interviews.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for over twenty years, at top-ranking schools including Charterhouse in Surrey and Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, USA. I have been a full-time private tutor for over eight years, helping more than 200 students achieve higher grades in their exams. That's in excess of 6,000 hours of teaching.

I have taught almost every module in Mathematics and Further Mathematics for each of the four English A-level specifications (Edexcel, AQA, OCR and MEI). I have prepared candidates for the Oxford MAT exam and the STEP exam (for entry to Cambridge, Warwick and Imperial.) I have been an examiner for Edexcel, AQA and Cambridge Assessments (OCR).

I was a Kitchener Scholar at the University of Cambridge, where I was awarded an Entrance Prize by Trinity College and the Philpott Prize for a first class examination performance. I took a second degree with the Open University, where I won the Leslie Walshaw award for scoring 100% in the examination in Mathematical Models and Methods. (In fact, I achieved first class passes in every assignment and examination for every course I took throughout the degree.)

I believe strongly in the importance of lifelong learning and continuous professional development. I spent a year at the University of York studying second year Physics, where I also developed an interest in Economics (and have taught it at undergraduate level). I've grown my business skills as an Enterprise Fellow at York St John University, and I've taken examinations in accounting at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (I scored 92% in Financial Accounting). I'm motivated in part by personal interest, but also by the desire to be able to give my students better advice and better teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

My style is to make the subject as simple and as enjoyable as possible. My approach produces outstanding results: one of my students came to me in March of his A2 year with E's and U's in his mathematics modules. He resat his whole A level after three months tuition with me and was awarded an A* and got into his first choice university, Manchester, to read mathematics. In 2013, 70% of my students achieved an A or an A* in their exams.

Personal Description:
I am currently living in central London, but I am from Michigan originally and have taught maths in the UK for about 7 years. I did my teacher training at the University of Sussex in Brighton.

Teaching Experience:

I teach GCSE and A-level maths full-time at a comprehensive state secondary school in the Ealing area. I've been at my current school for three years and I taught previously in a similar school in Portsmouth. I am highly experienced in supporting pupils at all levels of learning, from G grade on Foundation exams up to A* grade in Higher and Further Maths exams. I am most familiar with the Edexcel mathematics syllabus.

Tutoring Approach:

Mentors and colleagues have described me as an extremely personable, patient, and caring teacher. I aim to teach mathematics topics in a variety of different ways to suit the preferred learning styles of each student (e.g. visual, auditory, or kinesthetic). I believe it is important to maintain a balanced blend of different mathematics activities including ICT-based, written work, and verbal discussions. Most importantly, I strive to present maths in the simplest and most practical way possible so that the subject may be understood as well as enjoyed.

Personal Description:
I have a degree in Pharmacology and a qualified teacher of Science from KS1 to KS5. I am also an examiner; I mark GCSE papers. I am a very hard working individual who is easily motivated and always ready to adapt and learn new skills. Having had various opportunities to carry out a variety of laboratory assessments as key components of my course, I am able to work as an individual or as part of a team. As a part of my degree I developed essential and transferable scientific skills. My project title was 'Synthesis and Biochemical Evaluation of Heat Shock Protein Hsp90 inhibitors on MCF-7 breast cancer cells'. Studies on how drugs are discovered, developed and used to treat disease gave me an understanding of how the human body functions and how drugs can be used to affect these functions. I have experience teaching from KS1 to KS5 and open university students. I enjoy travelling; visited New York, New Jersey, Netherlands, Scotland, Switzerland, Austria, Spain and Nigeria. I get pleasure from working out at the gym regularly and I love swimming. I also enjoy studying christian books and other inspirational books.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently at an inner city school in Portsmouth. It has 900 students on roll. I have over 6 years of experience working with people with challenging behaviour, dyslexia and autism. Currently I am teaching Key stage 3 and 4. Teaching pure Biology lessons to separate Science; Physics, Chemistry and Biology to core and Additional Science students. For key stage 3 I have followed the QCA guidelines and for key stage 4 the WJEC examination board. I have written schemes of work for year 11 students to cover additional Sciences and rewrote schemes of work to meet the recent curriculum changes key stage 3 and 4. I was also involved in producing resources to be shared in the department about hydrocarbons, polymers, smart materials, ammonia fertilizers and many other kS3 topics.

Prior to this experience my first teaching placement during my PGCE year was at a mixed comprehensive with approximately 900 students on role. I taught Biology, Chemistry and Physics at key stage 3 and team taught for key stage 4. This prepared me well for my second placement where I taught all three Sciences across both key stages. My second placement was also at a mixed comprehensive school with approximately 600 students on roll. I also was involved in Individual Student Assessments (ISA). Additionally as a trainee teacher I regularly was involved in school base activities to encourage students. I was a Student Ambassador for Portsmouth University. It gave me a lot of personal satisfaction and developed my communication skills. I also attended the University of East London gifted and talented day in 2008; which was attended by a number of schools from the borough of Redbridge. It was an inspiring day of learning and fun and I have taken elements from that day into my classroom practice today.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is to first of all find out my students weaknesses and turn it into their strengths; I feel that the study of Neuropharmacology as part of my undergraduate degree in Pharmacology was very relevant to teaching. I have a secured subject knowledge with all three Sciences. I also like to bring the best of people, by being patient and understanding. I have the ability to cope and work under pressure, understanding of the challenges that need overcoming to learn, ability to take ownership of material and adapt it to suit the learning styles and approach of individual.

Personal Description:
From an early age I have been extremely enthusiastic about mathematics and since leaving education, and before I chose to pursue a career in education, I have been fascinated by learning and problem solving. I am currently a teacher in a new school in Hackney, East London. The college is for 14-18 year olds so I specialise in GCSE and A-Level maths teaching. We cater for a range of different backgrounds and abilities which requires the staff to have a wide ranging skill-set. I have previously taught for 5 full years, including 2 years at a 4-18 international school, and have 3 years teaching experience in the UK. My previous school was an independent international school. In all my years as a teacher I have taught GCSE classes and have come to have a sound knowledge of both AQA and Edexcel curriculums. I am also aware that GCSEs serve 2 purposes - one to gain a specific skill set and acquire subject knowledge, the other to achieve a prestigious and important qualification. I have worked in business for several years since completing a maths masters degree at Leeds University. As a relatively new teacher I have a fresh perspective on current barriers to learning and misconceptions within my chosen subject.

Teaching Experience:

1 year working in East London, 2 years overseas in the Dominican Republic (students are 95% native Spanish speakers), 3 years in England, 1 year PGCE training incorporating placements at 2 schools in Louth (North East Lincolnshire), trained at Lincoln BGUC. I am currently curriculum leader for maths at my college and have been acting head of department at my previous school.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the key to learning is presenting a new topic in a way that the learner can engage with best. I would aim to break a complex problem down into smaller more manageable parts. Maths is a subject where each new concept is just a collection of previously learnt skills or techniques used in a specific way. I would visit the house of the tutee under the supervision of a parent. Also, if acceptable, I would try to involve a parent in the tuition process so that they can work with the tutee at a later date, if they thought it would help. I am happy to set additional work to be finished between tuition sessions, if the parent and tutee consent to this. I aim to not only help the tutee in acquiring the grade they want but also to improve their confidence in maths and help inspire them to enjoy the subject more.

Personal Description:
I am currently a student at the University of Surrey who is on his placement year at Ford Motor Company, working as an Engineer, whilst currently pursuing my dream of becoming a Mechanical Engineer. It has been an exciting time in which I have become more innovative and gained a wide array of skills.

Main points to note about me are that I love to help and am enthusiastic about doing so. Teaching is something I thoroughly enjoy as it allows me to share the knowledge I have gained throughout my journey to entering and succeeding at what is now the 6th best university in the country. If you were to hire me, you can be assured that I will give my best effort in ensuring that my student not only improves/excels in his academic studies, but can acquire some insight or knowledge into what it would take to get into one of UK's best universities.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught a number of students privately since October 2012 culminating in my current role as a Teaching Assistant at Paddington Academy, alongside private tuition students. In this time, I have ensured my students had whatever they needed to excel in their studies. This includes support, flexibility, patience and proven teaching methods. This culminated in my students' grades showing improvement along with a greater understanding for the subjects I teach. I also like to help my friends with understanding and grasping topics they do not understand and have done so in the past. No matter who I teach, I always ensure that they have a good understanding of the subject at hand and the ability to do well. My success is shown by the positive feedback I have received from parents and students alike about the methods employed along with my general approach to lessons.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a friendly approach to tutoring. As in, I try to establish a slight level of friendship with the student as I think this is key for the student to enjoy his/her tuitions. Subsequently, if he/she is enjoying the tuitions, he/she will understand what I am going to teach more easily. I try to relate what I am teaching to practical examples in life where possible, and give sample questions during and after each topic to ensure the student has fully grasped the topic.

As exams are approaching I try and ensure he/she has learnt his/her notes which by now would have been summarised and easy to read in preparation for exams. I test the student with past papers near exams as I feel this helps him/her face similar situations to what he/she would face in the exam. I generally mark quite strict as I feel this would help the student be better prepared for the exam.

I ensure I know everything the student needs to know so that I am able to explain clearly to ensure the main points are understood. I am very patient and can repeat the point many times in various ways if required.

One key point which sets me apart from all the other tutors is that I have first hand knowledge in what it takes to enter a good university along with career advice. I also ensure I provide dedication to the job and give everything I have to help improve my student's chances of success. All in all, I provide a holistic approach to my tutoring and ensure the student's needs come first always.

Personal Description:
I graduated from the University of Warwick with a BSc (Hons) Mathematics and Physics. I am a keen marathon runner and a footballer.

Teaching Experience:

I have developed 10 GCSE/A level students from C to A for 6 years. I completed a teaching course at the University of Warwick, which gave me a first hand experience of teaching in a school; I independently organised and taught 3 lessons, which received positive feedback. Furthermore, I have completed a Level 3 Award in Education and Training.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a flair for making demanding concepts more accessible to others. This is due to my awareness of the nuances of topics and my firm command of the subject matter. I allow students to understand novel concepts by translating them into ideas that are their own. Students can then independently deduce the theories leading to a firm comprehension. I focus hugely on improving their ability to identify the underlying logical structure of a theory as it allows the students to test and confirm the validity of the concepts. I am instantly able to build rapport with any kind of students.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified and experienced teacher of mathematics and physics at GCSE and A level. I am registered with the DfE and possess Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Over the past two years I have conducted hundreds of Intervention Tutorials in local schools particularly in mathematics. In my private tutoring much of my work involves helping students to get the grades they need to pursue their chosen A level studies or to get to the university of their choice. My results in these respects have been first rate. I conduct home visits for students based in Bournemouth and Poole and online tuition for those based further afield.

Teaching Experience:

Over ten years teaching experience in schools, colleges and private one to one tuition. Throughout this time I have taught maths and physics mostly at GCSE and AS/A2 level. My experience covers AQA, OCR and Edexcel exam boards. It includes mathematics up to and including Further Maths (FP1/FP2,...)

Tutoring Approach:

Most of my tutees are looking for help in raising their grades especially for university entrance purposes and whilst I spend considerable time helping tutees work through past paper exam questions I always emphasise the need for a thorough understanding of the fundamental concepts.

Most of my tutees have a good idea where in the syllabus they have issues and these tend to be the starting point in a tutorial. Identifying gaps in their knowledge and understanding and then helping tutees to bridge these gaps is a key feature of my tutorials. I also place considerable emphasis on problem solving as this is ultimately what the exams are all about in mathematics and physics.

Personal Description:
My name is Marie-Jeanne, and I'm a Canadian and French national back in the UK to pursue a Master's Degree in Islamic Art and Architecture at SOAS of the University of London.

My educational history confirms my knowledge and understanding of both the British and Canadian systems. As a child, I studied in Canada, but I completed my GCSEs in Oxfordshire, before returning to Canada to finish school in an International Baccalaureate program, to accommodate my love of visual arts and playing the trombone.

During my GCSE's the Edexcel exam board congratulated me for receiving on of the top 5 marks of all exam takers (150000) in English Literature. I also won the English Award at school that year, and started a student council that I was voted president of. I graduated with 10 A* grades and an unfortunate B in IT. When I finished high school, I attended university in Montreal at McGill, a university consistently ranked as one of the top universities internationally. There, I studied Middle Eastern Studies and Art History, and I received a bachelors degree of First Class Honors with Distinction. I also edited an interdisciplinary journal and was the undergraduate president of my department, while playing in a jazz band and singing in a classical choir.

But school isn't everything. In my spare time I have a number of hobbies that bring me immense happiness. When I can, I enjoy painting, cooking, writing, and playing music.

Teaching Experience:

For the past two years, I have been teaching in the private school system in Cairo, Egypt. Most of my students spoke English as a second language, so I focused specifically on making things as clear and simple as possible. I also learned Arabic so that I could explain grammatical intricacies of English in the Arabic language better.

From 2011-2012, I taught in the American Division of Nefertari School, teaching 10th grade English literature. I tailored my curriculum to deal with the themes of Post-Colonialism, gender, and growing older. I taught 5 classes of 25 students. With my focus on reading comprehension, I brought 87% of my students up two reading grade levels by the end of the scholastic year.

The following year I taught at St. Fatima School in the British section. I was a grade 4 class teacher, and taught the entirety of the curriculum, save Art, PE and Music. I tried to make my curriculum as interactive and integrative as possible. During these two years, I also tutored students that needed remedial attention outside of class. I have also taught art to students between the ages of 5-12.

Tutoring Approach:

A tutor needs to be intuitive and flexible to the needs of the student so that they can make the most of their time together. Everyone learns differently, and at a different pace. By communicating with, and working with a student, I can understand how best they can glean the information I'm sharing with them, and how they can most benefit from the time spent.

In terms of resources, I try to incorporate the broadest range possible: multimedia, IT, music and various written and visual tools to get the message across. I also think it's crucial to make the subject interesting, which means asking and answering broader questions: why is this subject engaging/ fascinating to me? How can I make it so?

Personal Description:
I am a final year student at Queen Mary, University of London studying for a BSc in Natural Sciences. It is my intention to go on to become a secondary science teacher next year.

Teaching Experience:

I have spent 4 months working part time in a secondary school, teaching all ages and ability levels Science. I have a strong grasp of the National Curriculum because of this. In my time there I worked very closely with the year 11 classes (GCSE year), making sure they fully understood some of the more complex information.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach will depend entirely upon your needs. Once a firm knowledge base has been established, I like to focus on practice exam questions. I think these are incredibly important as it helps you get used to putting down all that information on paper. I can also teach you good exam technique to make sure you excel.
