Personal Description:
I am a mature professional, originally from Yorkshire. I hold a current enhanced CRB check and have spent most of my life working with children and young people. Most of my work has involved teaching pupils with special educational needs. At present I work part-time as a teacher in a hospital school with students 5-19yrs. I am highly qualified in teaching. In addition to a Bachelor of Education degree with honours, I hold an MA in the Psychology of Education, and diplomas in the teaching of reading (literacy and literature) and in Counselling. I also have a certificate in TEFL My work with children has not been restricted to teaching - I have worked as a Youth and Community worker, as a Counsellor and as a Child Protection Officer. My hobbies include drama, dance and choral singing.

Teaching Experience:

I trained as a teacher of infants but I have worked as a teacher of all ages and abilities. The majority of my teaching has involved pupils who experience a variety of special educational needs - social, emotional and behaviour difficulties, moderate learning difficulties, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, dyslexia, medical and mental health difficulties. I have also taught in secure accommodation. My teaching is effective - my work as a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator in a large primary school in South London received a very good Ofsted report because the pupils with special educational needs made good progress - better progress than pupils in the school who did not have special needs! I am also on the Upper Pay Scale for teachers who have proved to government that their teaching interventions make a difference to pupil attainment.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a great deal of experience as a teacher of individuals and small groups in school and many years experience of private tutoring. My success comes from teaching each person, adult or child as a unique individual. I am popular with my students because I endeavour to make learning fun whilst retaining high expectations of effort and success, being patient, firm but fair. My fee reflects my knowledge, skill and experience. I integrate my tutoring with the tutees school syllabus and approach, increasing motivation with encouragement, challenge and the introduction of new knowledge in carefully paced steps. I begin with a thorough assessment of a student's strengths and weaknesses at my base where I have assessment materials for all ages. My fee is payable for this session when clients can examine my CRB check, qualifications and we can discuss mutual availability (times) and location.

Personal Description:
My greatest interest is my family - my husband and our four children aged 18, 17, 11, and 9. We enjoy many activities together, with the highlight being our summer holidays where we self-drive to various places in Europe.

I also love learning and have recently finished my A1 NVQ Assessors qualification.

As the mother of four children I have to be well organised and efficient. I enjoy a challenge and love teaching. I can work well alone or as part of a team and I believe I am an effective communicator.

Teaching Experience:

I am a very enthusiastic maths and ICT tutor. I have been teaching maths from Entry Level through to Level 2 for teaching assistants, adults in the community and young offenders. I also teach "Keeping up with the children" courses for parents wanting to help their children. Plus I tutor children in Years 10 & 11 on a 1-1 basis to help them with their GCSE Maths at Swavesey Village college.

Until recently I was tutoring ECDL, Advanced ECDL and CLAIT ICT qualifications at St Ivo Community College, ICT Skills for Life at St Barnabas Learning Centre, Huntingdon, as well as being a Tutor for Learndirect and an online tutor for Tribal CTAD. I am still working for Family Learning and I have recently been appointed as the Skills For Life Maths Co-ordinator for Cambridgeshire Library Learning Services.

I thoroughly enjoy my work. I relate well to children and adults. Personal Description:
I am a young actor living in London. I also write and direct poetry, plays and films. As my father was a Diplomat I spent much of my early life abroad: in Cuba, Hungary and the United States.

After studying Maths, English and Russian at Eton College I spent a year studying acting in New York and cooking in an English restaurant, then studied English and Drama at Bristol and have just finished a BA in Acting at LAMDA. When I'm not writing or in the theatre I'm in the kitchen experimenting.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored several students over the past two years in London. I have helped with English A-Level papers for a boy who got an A grade and will start at Bristol this autumn. I also taught essay-writing and exam technique to a girl who will be starting medicine at Cambridge this autumn.

I also have a lot of experience with learning difficulties as I have helped my younger brother all his studying life through his asperger's and dyslexia.

Tutoring Approach:

My inspiration to work in the arts always came from the books, films, artists and languages I studied at school and at university so I have a great amount of passion and interest in what I teach.

I believe this is very much the most important lesson for any new student to learn: a personal enjoyment and motivation for the subject. Exams are everywhere these days but it is important to remember that an exam is only a method for determining how much you know and if you can find yourself genuinely excited and eager to discuss what you know you are half-way to passing that exam.

Personal Description:
I started tutoring following a career in the telecommunications industry where I held roles which ranged from technical development through to corporate strategy. My hobby is aviation and I am also now a part-time flying instructor.

I have always enjoyed helping people to achieve their goals and will go the extra mile to ensure the success of my students.

Teaching Experience:

Besides being an experienced tutor of at up to A-level I have been a visiting lecturer to both Aston and Coventry Universities.

I am a qualified flying instructor so I am very experienced in providing one-to-one tuition to students with a range of abilities and I have been trained to teach in a difficult environment (an aircraft).

Tutoring Approach:

I am a patient and understanding teacher with experience of teaching a wide cross-section of pupils and am familiar with many of the common stumbling blocks pupils encounter when studying physics in particular.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate of Oxford University in Engineering and Computing Science. I am fluent in French (as well as English and Polish). From an early age, I had a passion for maths and physics and at school, I imagined how I would envisage teaching those subjects differently. I would often explain things in an alternative way to my friends to help their understanding.
Please note that I also teach engineering topics at university level, usually up to first or second year, depending on the topics.

Teaching Experience:

I have a variety of tutoring experience at both university and high school level (AS and A level). I like to begin teaching with a session to become acquainted with the tutee and their needs.

At Oxford, I studied under the tutorial system which usually meant one professor to one or two students and this taught me to express myself clearly. I often studied one-to-one with a coursemate where learning was achieved through exchanging knowledge by teaching each other.

Tutoring Approach:

I know that every person learns differently and I will be looking to tailor my tutoring style to every student's particular needs. For maths, engineering and physics, I will aim to first establish a thorough understanding of the basics concepts, which is fundamental to making progress in scientific subjects; this will be followed by lots of practice. For French, the key is to be comfortable with the language and I will aim to conduct lessons entirely in French as soon as possible.

Personal Description:
I'm a Chinese girl who is really hard working and self-disciplined. I am a postgraduate in Translation and Interpreting at University of Essex. I did my bachelor's degree in English in China and I was the top student in my class.

Apart from the high levels of enthusiasm and commitment, as I have been trained intensively to be a Simultaneous Interpreter/ Conference Interpreter, I enjoy the advantage of good presentation and speaking manner. It's proven that I have strong teamwork spirit and multitask skills. I can work under high pressure and am able to schedule priorities and perform/delegate accordingly to effectively accomplish tasks at hand. Living in China for 20 years, I can always look at things in new perspective. Culturally I am strongly adaptive since I can smoothly operate in two entirely different environments.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored some primary school kids on their English course when I was in China. Their class performance was much better after my tutoring. I managed to get a Teacher's Certificate by taking the national exam when I was in China.

I have a real passion for languages and have been very privileged to have had the opportunities to go and live in the countries where these languages are spoken and experience the diverse culture each country has to offer. Teaching is something that I am very passionate about and want to help others have the same opportunities I have been fortunate to have.

Tutoring Approach:

I work closely with my students to customize the most effective one-on-one tutoring solution. I listen. Before designing a module, I make careful observation and evaluate the student's ability. I teach with the most patience.

I am an enthusiastic, creative and passionate fully qualified Secondary School teacher currently an Assistant Head. I actively encourage all learners to understand not only what it is they are learning about, but also how they learn and how it can be applied. I also believe that teachers need to be aware of the different learning styles which suit different individuals which ensures they will stay engaged.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for 10 years in a Secondary School with students aged 11-18. I am a PE teacher but have also taught Geography, BTEC Sport, BTEC Child Care, BTEC Construction and BTEC Dance. I am currently an Assistant Headteacher and I have run for the last six years Summer Schools for Year 6 pupils. I have also taught one to one helping students improve their Maths and English during the school holidays.

Tutoring Approach:

Prior to each tutoring session I will ascertain which topics the student is having most difficulty with in order to tailor sessions to suit each students needs. This will be in consultation with the pupil and parents.

Sessions will be planned fully and during the session the topic will be explained in full - moving at a pace that the student is comfortable with. Each session will end with advice on how the topic could be examined. Notes will be provided to students in hard copy were required.

Personal Description:
I am currently a second year Civil Engineering student at Imperial College London. Having studied through all levels of school I can appreciate how useful having a source of targeted teaching is, this is the service I hope to provide. Having participated in youth organisations and group bursary projects I have had the opportunity to work with people from many different backgrounds and cultures, this allows me to tailor to individuals. I am a STEMNET ambassador for which I volunteer in various schools and teach pupils how to apply classroom knowledge to real world scenarios. I play hockey in my spare time as well as recreationally painting to focus my time on activities outside of work.

Teaching Experience:

Currently I am enrolled in a "Mum's & Dad's" scheme in university, for which I am assigned three first year students to whom I am a mentor, helping them with work issues or general university issues.
During my time at secondary school and sixth form, I worked in sessions with younger students during which time we would cover material which they were struggling with.
Participated in a youth organisation, BSS Shaka, for which in my role as a senior member would organise and run weekly workshops which focused upon cultural learning as well as sporting activities.

Tutoring Approach:

Methods for teaching are subject to the individual therefore I strive to find a method which worst best for both parties. Aside from teaching the core syllabus I also would like to know what you struggle with such that more emphasis can be put upon that. I prefer to set up a dialog with my students such that the teaching is more interactive. I will prepare a lesson plan, and set students questions to work on between sessions; anything which they are unsure of can be covered in the next session.

Personal Description:
Approachable and friendly male tutor with science industry experience having worked as a biological researcher at both QinetiQ and Imperial College London. I feel this allows me to better relate "boring" academic subjects in a more "real life" scenario. I thrive on building a good friendship with my student and using online resources via laptop/iPad to better relate topics across to the younger generation - which they seem to like!

My degree is in Medical Biochemistry from the University of Surrey in 2002.

Teaching Experience:

I have a Level 3 PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Life Long Learning Sector) qualification meaning I'm specifically trained to teach those aged 16+ - perfect for GCSE resitters and A Level. I have 2 years experience tutoring GCSE and A Level Biology and am familiar with all major boards' specifications: OCR, AQA, EdExcel etc.

I also like to do practical sessions where possible - sometimes turning the kitchen into a lab bench!

In the past I have managed to get my students to cross 2 grade boundaries going from a grade D to a B.

Many of those studying Physical Education at A Level struggle with the Biology side of the syllabus and I have experience tutoring the OCR PE unit G451 which is heavily Biology related. If you need help with this specific part of the syllabus I'm your man!

I have also taught Adult Numeracy for Portsmouth City Council for the last two years catering for those working towards their Level 2 qualification in Functional Maths. This is becoming a prerequisite for most job applications nowadays and it is necessary to show you are working towards it in order to claim some benefits.

Tutoring Approach:

Young, friendly, relatable, I tend to tutor in a lecture style approach which I feel is ideal for those who are off to Uni and will need to adapt to this way of learning.

Personal Description:
Unlike many, who kind of drift into teaching, because they couldn't think of a job they wanted to do, I made a change of career after 20 very successful years in the computing industry. I was doing very well developing computer software, but I wanted to do something which was a little more sociable than staring at a computer screen all day. So, teaching maths seemed like a good idea, especially as I've always enjoyed the subject.

As well as teaching maths face-to-face I recently published a book (see below) it's available in hard-copy and kindle versions. It`s also available free on my website. But I'm not allowed put my contact details here.

I'm typically very informal and relaxed, which most students seem to appreciate.

Teaching Experience:

Again, my experience is a bit different from most UK teachers. Sure, I'm UK qualified and have taught in England, but I've also taught in New Zealand, Germany and Italy. For me (and for you) this is a huge plus, because the standard of teaching is better abroad. People mistakenly think that getting a teacher with years of UK experience is the best strategy. Nothing could be further from the truth! You will probably get someone with good behavioural management and admin skills, but it will be at the expense of their subject skills. I've taught across the entire 11 to 18 age range and at all abilities from struggling 11 year old students to top set 18 year old students. I've taught in all-boys schools, all-girls schools, mixed schools, FE and sixth form colleges. This has been at schools that get good results!

As well as A-Level, I've taught IB Diploma: Mathematical Studies, Standard Level Mathematics, and Higher Level Mathematics - I've given intensive revision courses in the last two, which were very well received. Once again, I would have to say that IB Diploma is more demanding than A-level - on both the student and the teacher.

So, whether you need help with Core, Further Maths, Mechanics, Statistics, or Decision Maths, I've got the experience to help you. I can also help you get the best out of your graphics calculator (all senior maths students should have one), which will give you an advantage in your exams. On this point, you might like to note that I have recently published a book about using the TI-Nspire, for those taking GCSE or IGCSE. And, I expect I will publish another one, for A-level and I.B. Diploma students, before too long.

As you can probably surmise from the above, maths is my main subject, and my favourite subject, but I also have experience of teaching both physics and chemistry. I have taught both of these subjects across the entire secondary school age range, and so I can also offer tutoring in them. Just for interest, you might like to know that at school chemistry was my favourite subject, and I obtained a grade A A-Level in it when I was 16.

Tutoring Approach:

Students typically come to tutoring for two reasons. They either need help to get better at what they are doing at school or, more rarely, what they are doing at school isn't challenging enough and they want to take things further.

For those who want to concentrate on what's going on at school, I will typically focus on what they are finding difficult, help them understand it better, and tackle the exercises they have been given in class or for homework. Of course, I can provide further exercises and examples to help consolidate and improve their learning.

For students who want to take things to the next level, we can either move ahead in the curriculum, extend the topics they have covered or even look at other areas of maths that they will find challenging and interesting. When it comes to extending talented students, I may well have better resources than their school.

Why do I adopt this style of tutoring? Because lots of previous tutoring experience has shown me that it's what students want, and it works.

Personal Description:
I graduating from the College of St Mark and St John in 2003 with a 2: 1 Honours Degree, my Post Graduate Certificate in Education was awarded at Marjon in 2004.

I have many years teaching and tutoring experience so have considerable empathy for students (and parents) involved in the GCSE process.

Teaching Experience:

"I have 8 years classroom experience and 2 years Tutoring experience guiding GCSE students successfully through their Maths GCSE exams

Tutoring Approach:

I currently tutor students studying the Foundation level of GCSE Maths. If you find Maths a bit of a challenge and are hoping to achieve that important Grade C at GCSE, my sessions are tailored especially for you. Lessons are delivered in a relaxed atmosphere where students are supported patiently with positive encouragement.

A lack of confidence in Mathematics can be a barrier to learning in itself. My methods are specifically designed to boost self-confidence, accelerate learning and ensure higher attainment. With the growing competition for A Level and university places, a GCSE pass in Mathematics is essential for a young person's future."

If Maths is not your strong point but you really want the best chance of success in the GCSE exams, call now for your initial assessment.
