Personal Description:
I am an experienced and qualified tutor - I have a mathematics PhD and have been tutoring at all levels (from GCSE through to undergraduate) for over a decade. I believe any student can become strong in maths with good tuition and a little work.

I'm also the author of Basic Maths For Dummies and Numeracy Tests For Dummies, and working on several more titles in the For Dummies range.

"I am planning on recommending Colin's tutoring to any of my friends who need help. He was patient and made the material easier to understand despite the fact that I hadn't taken math in years. I got a great grade too!"
- MC, Utah

Teaching Experience:

* Started tutoring GCSE maths while doing A-levels
* Tutored through university career
* Have always been complimented on my ability to make difficult ideas simple without patronising

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to encourage students to look at problems methodically and to help understand the ideas behind the theory by using simple, real-world examples. I teach that it's not just getting the right answer that is important, but understanding how you got there and knowing that the answer is right.

Lessons take place either online or at my classroom in Weymouth. Classes in your home are also possible, but there's a travel surcharge of at least 7 depending on where you are.

Personal Description:
I am currently a student studying Economics at the London School of Economics. I am in my final year studying Economics at LSE. I graduated last summer from St Paul's Girls School receiving 3 A*s in Mathematics, Economics and Geography, as well as an A in Further Maths. I am a very friendly, happy, relaxed person to be around. I like Indian dancing, debating, playing Chess, cooking, watching Bollywood films and kickboxing in my spare time. In school, my favorite lessons were Economics, Maths and Geography, which helped me get understand the interdisciplinary nature of Economics. I have a younger brother and sister, and often explain complex concepts or theories to them in a simple, understandable and fun way. I have tutored several people in Maths and also was successful in tutoring someone Chemistry and Maths for AS Level. I have lived in 4 continents and speak 6 languages.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked in a Kumon Centre teaching English and Maths for a year. I also volunteered in a primary school teaching Maths and reading to children in Year 3. I have also tutored out of school in Maths and Chemistry A Level and have received excellent feedback. Now I am doing more Maths tuition, as well as 2 students in 11+ entrance exams, which I have had a personal successful experience with (Wimbledon High, St Paul's, City of London Girls, Tiffin Girls, Nonsuch girls).
Recently I tutored Chemistry AS Level OCR and Maths AS Level Edexcel Higher(April 2012- August 2012), 11+ Maths tuition (July 2012- Aug 2012), GCSE Maths tuition Edexcel (September 2012- present), 11+ Maths and General Science (September 2012- present).

Tutoring Approach:

I like to teach people in a very active, forward way. I also use many different ways as children often have different needs and abilities. I mainly focus on their age and try and tutor as much as the syllabus states, and even more if neccessary. I will constantly be engaging myself with my tutee, and do my best to make sure they understand a topic or concept before moving on. I like to review previous theories, problems or concepts by small tests or quizzes and my approach can best be described as dynamic, fast and fun. I am very good at reviewing material and offer summary sheets and quizzes to make sure my tutee has grasped the concepts which I have bought, and I also do weekly review sessions to go over material I have given the tutee to work on during the week. I do not give tests as such, but do go through past papers with students, and make sure they are working on at least one paper a week, to mark progress.

Personal Description:
I am currently studying the International Baccalaureate at Impington sixth form. I enjoy teaching and working with children. I have experience with working with young people and have run and lead several youth club sessions. I have level 2 British Sign Language and am passionate about working with hearing impaired children. I am looking to be a teacher and hope this will give me a taster.

Teaching Experience:

As I am only 17 I have limited teaching opportunities, however my experience is wide for someone of my age. I have gained my youth work award and have lead several youth club sessions in Cottenham and have also got a sports leadership qualification. I regularly assist my mum with her riding school and often take out children on rides individually. I frequently help my younger cousins with homework and I also babysit. I have gained my Duke of Edinburgh award during which I volunteered at the local Rainbows. During my work experience I spent two weeks working with primary school hearing and deaf students.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer working one to one with children so that they have my full attention to enable them to reap the benefits of the teaching sessions. I believe in a collaborative approach so that the children are able to discuss ideas rather than regard learning as a chore. I like to enable learning through fun to bring out their passion in learning and give them the best chance to exceed expectation.

Personal Description:
I am an undergraduate student at the University of Nottingham entering my fourth year studying my integrated masters degree in Mathematics. I am currently undergoing the application procedure for the undertaking of my PhD and in future hope to use my passion for teaching in further education.

Teaching Experience:

My past tutoring experience includes both GCSE and A level pupils helping them achieve the required grades to attend their university or college of choice.

I have had no formal teaching experience. However I feel my age and recent undertaking of GCSE and A-level examinations gives a less formal and more comfortable tutoring experience whilst still maintaining a high quality of tutoring and I can understand the problems and difficulties students may come across as I will have hit these problems myself in the past.

Tutoring Approach:

Since I myself have completed my A levels only 3 years ago I feel I have an up-to-date understanding of these examinations and the perfect exam technique as well as the required academic content. I am able to empathise with students and provide techniques for understanding which worked for both myself and fellow students. Furthermore having taken A level further mathematics I would also be able to offer tutoring for students taking this as a full A-level or AS-level.

Personal Description:
My name is Dhruv and I'm a student of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath. I have a passion for Science and Mathematics which I will gladly share. I constantly read books on various scientific subjects, and keep myself up to date with the latest discoveries of the day.

I have a 99th Percentile in the AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Examination) and a 98th percentile in the IIT-JEE (Indian Institutes of Technology - Joint Entrance Exam).

I scored the following marks in my AISSCE (Indian A-level equivalent exam): Maths 95%, Chemistry 92%, Physics 90%, Computer Science (C++) 89%

Also, I have a band score of 8/9 in the IELTS exam (International English Language Testing System)

Teaching Experience:

I took advanced placement classes in Science which involved a lot of group study - different members of the group would learn topics and teach each other. Since I have fresh memories of my school days, I am capable of understanding how a newcomer's mind processes new concepts, and the pitfalls they encounter.

I also taught maths to my younger brother and my neighbour's kids for two years before coming to University.

Update: I've been teaching two A-level Physics and Maths students who I met through UKTutors for the past three months. I have been able to help them increase their confidence, and raise their test scores by about 10-15%

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring focuses on bringing out a sense of wonder and excitement when encountering the beauty of Science. I try not focus on the final result (grades), but instead try to teach the students how to think and approach new problems.

While this approach is less effective on a short-term, it is very good for the long-term. Once the student is motivated, they find the act of learning to be a pleasurable experience and rapidly rise to the top of their class.

I will primarily focus on clearing doubts about specific areas of the subject, or help with problem-solving rather than going through the entire course. I'm willing to travel, but ideally I would prefer to teach online over Skype.

Personal Description:
I am currently studying Physics at my second year in Oxford University. I thoroughly enjoy learning and teaching alike and hope to continue in Physics after my degree. Due to my degree I am in England 6 months a year but live in Northern Ireland all Christmas, Easter and the months of July, August and September.

Teaching Experience:

I was involved in the tutor scheme at Ballyclare High School when I attended, where I worked with 1st to 3rd years with their science and maths. Over the summer vacation I was involved in some local tutoring of mathematics and physics.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a friendly and patient tutor. I find the more enjoyable a subject is the easier it is to remember. I find working through questions is the best way to apply knowledge.

Personal Description:
I am a first year student studying biochemistry at University College London. I have just completed my A-Levels last year; I got 4 As and 1A* and a Progress Prize in Further Maths. I went to a music college for 6 years and I was a piano tutor for over 2 years; I have a good knowledge of music theory and piano playing skills.
I am happy to help out with any topics in Chemistry, Biology and Maths for any exam boards. I did AS Physics so I'd be happy to help out
I would gladly tutor in Central London as well as South West London.I'm quite flexible during the week, could do Sundays as well.

Teaching Experience:

In sixth form I was a private Chemistry and Biology tutor. I was also a piano tutor helping two girls pass their Grade 3 and 4 exams. I was also involved in running a Maths workshop and science revision classes for younger years when I was at school.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that the way of explaining various concepts has to be suited to each person individually. I used to struggle with A-Level Maths and Further Maths and had to self teach some of the topics so I know what it takes to understand the subject fully. This is very important because exams can contain harder questions, some elements of which you haven't come across before but if the topic is thoroughly revised and understood such questions can be solved with ease.

Personal Description:
-I am a 19 year old psychology student at Ulster University.
-I currently work as a member of a professional research team within my University and have done since January 2014. Working as a research assistant and writing many essays and lab reports for my degree has greatly improved my writing and reading abilities, as well as my critical thinking and reviewing skills.
-In the summer of 2013 I worked as a sales person for a direct marketing company based in Belfast. I did this for 5 weeks and was promoted to the role of sales leader for my selling ability.
-I have both a Skype and Google Hangouts account, which I use for introduction purposes. I also tutor using these mediums.
-I drive and I live on the outskirts of Belfast so I can go to most places at most times, libraries, homes, cafes, wherever suits.

Teaching Experience:

Within my University I am a Peer-Assisted-Study-Sessions (PASS) leader. This role involves assisting psychology students throughout the first year of their degree. In my PASS group there are 10 students, all of whom I assist by bettering their understanding of the work they need to complete for their various modules.

I currently mentor at Phoenix ADHD centre, based in Coleraine. Here I work with children and young adults aged 12-17 with ADHD, in particular one child whom I mentor and work closely with. Every Tuesday I spend 2 hours with my mentee, we go bowling, engage in behavioral and attitude improving activities and we have become friends over the past few months.

Tutoring Approach:

Having recently gone through the school system and now going through the university system gives me a current understanding of what is required from students succeed and excel.

Before the first tutoring session begins I converse with the student/individual I will be tutoring via email, phone, Skype, or Google Hangouts and discuss the subject(s) to be taught as well as the tutoring schedule and my approach. This enables a more clear picture to be painted of me and enables me to gain an understanding of what is required of me.
