I am 26 years old and am currently working as a Primary Supply Teacher in Liverpool. I graduated last year with a First Class Honours degree in a Primary Education (with QTS - Qualified Teacher Status) from the Manchester Metropolitan University. Teaching Experience:

I spent four years developing my skills as a classroom teacher during my studies, in various classroom settings at several primary schools across the north west and in the United States. My time in school has varied from KS2 settings to Early Years and the Foundation Stage, working with small groups of children, on a one-to-one basis, and leading full class sessions that were planned and assessed independently. The majority of my training took place in Year 5 classrooms, working with children aged around 9-10. Since this time, I have worked for two different supply teaching agencies, gaining further classroom experience.

I developed two areas of specialism at university: International Perspectives, and Children's Literature and Language (literacy). During the time spent in one of my schools, I was working with dyslexic children, developing reading and spelling skills on a one-to-one basis, which included the use of ICT materials.

I have also worked with children as a summer camp counsellor in the US for the past eight years, working with boys aged from 5 to 13 years old. Whilst this work is not of an educational manner, the professionalism and skills I have acquired from the role are similarly placed to those required of an educator. My duties have been eclectic, from the basic care and nurturing of the children, to the coaching of sports games, and even practising management and organisational skills in my more recent position as a Division Assistant.

Tutoring Approach:

Whilst I understand that the purpose of tutoring is to enrich the learner's knowledge and improve their ability in a given subject, I believe in taking a more diagnostic approach, finding and tackling the specific problems of the individual learner. This I feel will help to boost their confidence in the subject, which will hopefully lead to better enjoyment and success in the school environment. Furthermore, addressing gaps in the student's knowledge is much more inherent to future success if discovered and filled earlier in the student's educational career. I also believe in recording evidence of progress - which certainly requires practice - and find the use of regular "quizzes" and "challenges" useful in allowing the learner to see their progress, as well as assigning independent homework tasks where appropriate to maintain progress between sessions. This also allows the learner to reflect and manage a plan of action for him/herself, deciding which areas to focus on next and to set their own achievable targets and learning goals.

Teaching Experience:

- Since I`ve been in London I have taught Italian to an English couple who have travelled to Italy many times, are really fond of the culture but have never got down to learning the language. I`ve also taught a Japanese woman who lives in the City and has working relationships with Italy. References available on request.

Moreover, I have tutored a 17 year old student form East Dulwich to prepare for and successfully pass his A-Level Maths exams. Reference available on request.

- In 2008 I worked as a teaching assistant in a kindergarten in Reykjavk for 8 months. This kindergarten had a special program of integration between kids with special needs (especially hearing impaired ones) and kids with no special requirements, which showed to be very successful. Besides assisting the teachers in taking care of the children daily, I was responsible of having a short weekly session to introduce children to English as a foreign language through playing and singing, which turned out to be very appreciated and great fun.

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching is, without any doubt, one of the most important jobs ever. This might sound a cliche but it is what I really think. With almost 30 years spent as a student to gain two university degrees, I have encountered teachers form all over the world and experienced the most different teaching methods. A teacher can make the difference in a persons life, in a good or in a bad way. A good teacher can be a source of inspiration and can make you love a subject that you would have never imagined you could like otherwise. When teaching the student's benefit is the prime goal, this means that the teacher has to be able to understand what the student needs to access a specific subject, understand it, retain the information and be able to reuse it proactively whenever it is required of him. Since, as a private tutor, I work one on one with a student, I aim at creating a healthy and effective relation where the student feels comfortable to express what he/she doesn't understand and he/she can develop a positive attitude towards learning the subject under examination. Every student is unique, therefore the method used for each student is different. I plan to have a first session where I can assess what it is required of me and whether I am able to constructively interact with the student and then build a teaching program from that. I will commit to plan every session at home and come prepared to teach what is needed and I will expect that the student commits to doing his/her best to do his/her reading and homework.

My approach towards teaching varies with each student and their needs. Generally, for a subject like Physics it's very important that we lay down the basics of a concept very firmly in the minds of the students. To do this, I provide a visual aid with day-to-day experiences so that the pupil can think, rethink and understand the concept clearly. This would not only build confidence to solve class room questions or exam questions but would also motivate them to solve/understand more complicated problems and hence appreciate the simplicity of nature. For Mathematics, a lot of students suffer from fear of equations. This fear in students can only be circumvented by familiarizing with different kinds of problems involving different tricks and techniques of the trade.
I always engage a friendly manner of teaching so that the student can get comfortable to ask about any kind of conceptual difficulty that he/she may face. When it comes to the exams it is crucial that we go through the wealth of past papers and problems to familiarize them with the kind of questions they might ask and answers that they might expect. In each session, I would help the pupil work through questions which have frequently appeared in the past papers and let the pupil solve a few so as to make sure he/she has completely grasped the concept/technique.
