Personal Description:
I am 56 years old, am a qualified teacher with 15 years experience. I am an easy-going reliable person who likes to make my students feel at ease at all times.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching seconday school students since qualifying in 1998. I have had two full-time posts, worked as a supply teacher as well as having private students. I have worked in Inner London, Outer London, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire schools. I have also worked in France at a small private school during the '80's, predominantly teaching adults.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach French using the native tongue as much as possible. I use my own resources although I use the Internet for ideas whenever it's suitable.
For Maths I follow the syllabus laid down by whichever examining board the student is using and resources come from a wide variety of places usually from where I have recently been teaching. I gather information from colleagues who sometimes have great ideas. I like to be able to go through past papers with students marking work as we go through a course.

Personal Description:
As a mature bilingual (Russian native) person with degrees in Business, Chemistry, IT, completed in different countries with reach experience in teaching at different levels from the nursery to adult.
I am looking to pursue a new challenge in a position where motivation comes from significant and visible improvements in your status and visible, clear performance targets.

Teaching Experience:

I have teaching experience in Chemistry, Maths, Physics, Biology, Russian. But I do prefer to teach Maths or Russian.
As a teacher I use diffident techniques or methods (depends from the age, level of schooling, etc) to raise confidence with the chosen subject and draw the best abilities from a student.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence in a subject. My approach varies depending on the student's requirements and learning style. My teaching style is based on inspiring students to think for themselves, using real-world examples where possible. I begin from topics the students are comfortable with and move increasingly towards more complex areas as their self-confidence builds. Personal Description:
Hello, my name is Jodie. I am a 28 year old female currently studying a PhD in Education Policy at The University of Nottingham. I am friendly, enthusiastic, organised and I have several years of experience tutoring students with a range of abilities, both at home and in a school environment.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or require any further information.

Teaching Experience:

Summary of Tutoring Experience:

I am currently teaching undergraduate students on a Social Policy module at The University of Nottingham.

Over the past six years I have privately tutored numerous children and adults in English Literature, English Language, Social Sciences, and Mathematics.

For five years I have mentored students applying to Oxbridge and other Russell Group universities as part of the Oxbridge Mentoring Scheme run by Insight Education. This involved supporting students throughout the entire admissions process, including writing their personal statement, interview preparation, support with developing their analytical skills and preparation for entrance examinations.

For two years I worked as an academic tutor in an inner city comprehensive school in London. Here I tutored sixth form students in English Language, English Literature, Social Sciences, and Media Studies. A large component of this role was supporting students with essay writing skills and study skills and I am happy to support students with these skills in a general way, or in relation to a specific subject. In this role I also coordinated and ran summer school transition programmes for students moving into year seven, and tutored mathematics and English to year seven students. I am therefore comfortable teaching and supporting students from a range of different year groups.

I have tutored GCSE English to students who have been excluded from mainstream school, and students who are struggling to pass GCSE qualifications. Several of my roles have contained a motivational and mentoring aspect, and I have lots of experience of getting students organised in their approach to study.

Summary of Academic Qualifications:

A levels in English Language, English Literature and Sociology all at grade A
BA English Language and Literature (2:1) from The University of Oxford
MSC Social Policy with Distinction from The London School of Economics and Political Science
MA in Research Methods (Social Policy) with Distinction from The University of Nottingham
I am currently undertaking a funded PhD in Education Policy at The University of Nottingham

As I have degrees and post graduate qualifications in English Language, English Literature and Social Science subjects and I am happy to teach these up to degree level. I have tutored key Stage Two mathematics privately for five years and I am and I am up-to-date with the curriculum and preparation needed for Key Stage Two SATS examinations.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is very much dependant on the student. I believe that different people are suited to different learning styles and therefore I always take the first couple of sessions to assess how a student likes to work and what their difficulties might be.

I like to set 'homework' tasks - even if they are very short - to encourage the student to develop the skills they are learning in their own time. I am happy to mark additional work and essays and to e-mail students with any advice or feedback that they may require whilst working on a particular assignment.

Personal Description:
Nick is an Oxford English graduate who has worked as a strategy consultant and set up various businesses as an entrepreneur, including raising $5m in funding as Development Director for a military website in San Francisco, developing a 1m property portfolio in Notting Hill and the Alps and providing financial backing for the first two albums by a singer-songwriter from Brisbane, who has now won record deals with Sony and EMI and released a number one single in Greece. In his spare time, he loves playing golf, skiing and dancing:
- He helped win the southern and national team ballroom dancing championships for Oxford University and won a Half Blue for being on the winning team in the Varsity match.
- He spent four ski seasons in Mribel and Val d'Isre and lived in Lyon, where he learned to speak French fluently with the aid of a French girlfriend.
- He also spent 18 months in Brisbane, where he became a scratch golfer, and now coaches privately and at City Golf in London.

He has had over a hundred clients aged between six and 46 whom he teaches English, French, Maths, essay-writing and information technology. He also coaches various sports to friends and colleagues in his spare time, including golf, sailing, ballroom and Latin dancing.

Tutoring Approach:

Nick is based in London but is happy to teach in person at a mutually convenient location and/or give help and advice over the phone or by email. For example, after his golf lessons, he sends his clients email summaries of the points covered during the lessons. Clients have told him he is very patient, and his lessons have been very helpful.

"Thank you so much for your help! And thank you so much for letting me send you my draft and read over it!! I'm a bit clumsy with my sentences, so you reading it will be a great help!!

"You really have helped me in grasping the concept of this essay question and what to include!"

Tutoring Approach:

My approach I believe is a successful one. I begin with an understanding of HOW an individual learns best such as visual, audio or tactile/kinaesthetic. Once this has been established, all tutoring will be adapted to suit the needs of the learner. Next would be to determine the students original interest in the subject and the motivation behind wanting to succeed at it. Organisation is a crucial factor which I will offer students support with through time management. Students undertaking A levels wishing for assistance with a UCAS application can be supported with this as I have 8 years experience of preparing students for university. It is very important that whoever I tutor makes a commitment to supporting their own education. I can support learning but I will not do it for the student, instead getting the student to work out what their blocks to education are and to work around them are far more important for lifelong learning.

I prefer teaching Maths by explaining concepts at a fundamental level, following up with well-worked examples of the theory in action. This is because in my experience, to understand something properly you need to understand not only where it came from but how it's properly applied.
I normally draw up sheets with all the vital information about a topic for the student so that they have something they can refer to quickly to find what they need. In the past I have set a few problems for the student to do in between lessons and we would then look at them together the following week, and of course I am happy to go through problems together that the student is struggling with.

Personal Description:
I am a Cambridge mathematics graduate with an abiding love for maths and a passion to help students discover and master maths for themselves. Two of my three children have left university and one is still at primary school, so I am engaged closely with the education system at all levels and understand what both students and parents are looking for to achieve academic success. I and my family have lived in Cranleigh for over 20 years and have connections with a number of local schools.

Teaching Experience:

At the time of writing I have more than 15 active tutees spread right across the secondary level, from A-level Further Maths to Year 7. Additionally I have extensive experience as a trainer and coach over more than 25 years as a business manager and consultant. This means I can combine teaching expertise with a wide-ranging practical approach to all aspects of mathematics, to help students learn more effectively through seeing how maths is directly relevant to real life. I have also coached my own children effectively at various ages and through a number of subjects including mathematics, one son having gone on himself to complete a mathematics degree at Cambridge University.

Tutoring Approach:

More than almost any other subject, maths needs confidence to be built, and an individually tailored approach. Some students can grasp mathematical concepts, but need practice to eliminate errors, and challenge to stretch their capabilities. Others struggle to understand at a more basic level, and an imaginative and pictorial approach with plenty of real world examples is needed to achieve that "penny drops" moment!

Depending on the student, tuition may include any or all of: coaching to consolidate (or anticipate) teaching at school; revision for examinations; working through past examination papers; teaching and testing of specific sections of the curriculum; or more free-wheeling exploration of mathematical topics. By agreement with students and parents, homework may be set and marked.

I offer engaging and effective mathematics tuition at all secondary levels including GCSE and A-level. If you want to succeed in your exams and also to deepen your appreciation of mathematics and have fun, then get in touch!

I teach maths one-to-one, in small groups and in whole classes at several secondary schools in Tyne and Wear as well as at further education colleges, covering all ages up to A level.

I believe I`m good at recognising what that level is and being able to adjust my explanations accordingly. I`m pretty relaxed and like my students to feel comfortable during our sessions. Personal Description:
FIRST LESSON FREE (40 minutes)
Travelling expenses of 5 may be payable depending on your location

I am a Medical student and a published author of an A Level Chemistry book. I have been teaching for more than 4 years, both group lessons and one to one.

My students have achieved grades above that expected from their schools. I have experience teaching students from KS1 up to Advanced Level. My teaching techniques have proved very effective to students of all ages including mature students and students with learning disabilities.

I am also a grade 4 violinist and have conducted two local Fidle Fiestas. I also hold a national "Young computer scientist" award.

In 2012, I founded a teaching organisation which is registered in the UK. As part of this I have also been providing free / discounted lessons to students from low incomes families. The organisation is also listed in UK school sponsors list. (Please get in touch and I will send you a link to the website where you can read more)

Knowing what to write in an exam will help you get the high grades you want. The same question under different exam boards sometimes require slightly different answers. These are what we sometimes refer to as "mark scheme" answers. By doing many past papers and studying the mark schemes, one can familiarise themselves with the sort of answer an examiner is looking for. I can teach you just this so your answers will be to the point.

I believe anyone can get high grades with the right practice. A good example is one of my GCSE students who was predicted D and E`s by her school before she started having lessons. Within two months (8 lessons) of having lessons, she got A-A*s in her mock GCSE exams resulting in her predicted grades being lifted up.

My results

A Level
Chemistry A*
Biology A*
Maths A*
Physics A

GCSE

9 A*s, 4 distinctions

Teaching Experience:

More than 5 years private tutoring experience one to one and group tuition
More than 1 year online tutoring experience

Tutoring Approach:

I follow the national curriculum up to KS3 and the respective exam boards for GCSE and A Level.

My approach to tutoring will depend on the individual student and their needs. Some students come to me with a very good idea about their current level. These students can usually tell me where they need help.

Other students need directing. It is quite common for students to not know where they should be heading with their revision. For these students I guide them using the following framework:

- Assessing the level of the student (Different students need different levels of explanation):
I won't use one whole lesson for this assessment. It will be done as I continue to teach the student. I can usually get a very good idea about the student after the first lesson.

- Explaining areas of the subject which the student find difficult to understand and doing questions based on those topics

- Testing the student on all areas using "textbook questions" and past paper questions

- Analysing past paper mark schemes (mostly for GCSE and A Level) which is proven to help with the grades
