Alongside my maths I enjoy crochet and knitting as well as learning to paint.

I am married with a child. I am also a rainbow guider and leader in charge.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught maths in both middle schools and secondary school in the local area for 12 years.

I have been an examiner of mathematics at key stage 3 in the past which had provided a useful insight into how to help students get as many marks as possible.

I have also very successfully tutored many students of all ages. I typically have increased grades from F to B and also C to A*. References and CRB available. I also hold full child and adult first aid qualifications.

Tutoring Approach:

I don't believe in having a set approach to tutoring. Each student is an individual and I adapt my teaching methods to suit them.

I do however, do all I can to ensure student succeed their full potential and enjoy the journey.

Personal Description:
I am 56 years old, am a qualified teacher with 15 years experience. I am an easy-going reliable person who likes to make my students feel at ease at all times.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching seconday school students since qualifying in 1998. I have had two full-time posts, worked as a supply teacher as well as having private students. I have worked in Inner London, Outer London, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire schools. I have also worked in France at a small private school during the '80's, predominantly teaching adults.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach French using the native tongue as much as possible. I use my own resources although I use the Internet for ideas whenever it's suitable.
For Maths I follow the syllabus laid down by whichever examining board the student is using and resources come from a wide variety of places usually from where I have recently been teaching. I gather information from colleagues who sometimes have great ideas. I like to be able to go through past papers with students marking work as we go through a course.

Personal Description:
I am currently studying Mathematics at Aberdeen University, and looking to make a little bit of extra money to help support my studies. I am very enthusiastic about maths and physics, something which I try to pass on to my tutees. I am looking to tutor standard grade, higher and advanced higher maths and physics and also advanced higher applied maths (mechanics) which is not listed on the site. I would also be willing to teach the English equivalents: GCSE, AS, and A level maths, further maths and physics, should anyone be interested. I am willing to travel or to tutor from my own flat (Old Aberdeen, near the University), whichever is more convenient for you.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring since 2008. Although I could not list it on this site I would also be very interested in tutoring advanced higher mechanics. This is a subject which I actually taught myself in sixth year because my school was unable to provide the course. Having taught myself from a textbook I achieved an A grade in the exam. The skills I gained from this include the ability to set appropriate work, to decide which areas of the course need emphasis for the exam, and the ability to summarise the key outcomes from each topic.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to carefully go over what has been covered in class in order to find any areas of difficulty and then to spend time working through these areas and to build understanding and confidence to the point where the tutee can answer questions on the topic with ease. Moving through the coursework in this way ensures no gaps in course knowledge. In the lead up to exams and tests most of the time would be spent on revision and past papers, stopping to go over again any uncertainties. I would usually obtain from SQA the course specifications which detail each learning outcome, that is, what the student is expected to know. This gives me the ability to check through, systematically, every area which the tutee could possibly be tested on and thus ensuring that the tutee is fully prepared for the exams.

Since I have been a student all my life so did not get a chance to tutor. However I have experience to work with young people as a "Tutor" in the state run TRIO program in USA. This job has given me a clear understanding and significance of a good education, promoting effective learning, teaching and personal development. Personal Description:
I am on my final year of undergraduate study, reading Mathematics, at UCL. Where am I from? Originally from Taiwan but have been studying in the UK for over 5 years . What kind of person am I like? a bit shy but friendly and really easy going type.

Teaching Experience:

I have had three teaching experiences so far, one in Chinese(Mandarin) and two in A-level Mathematics.
One of my maths student obtains a stunning double A* in both GCE A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics and the other one, whose GCSE Maths is a D, gets a fairly respectable B in GCE A-level Mathematics. My Chinese student didn't take any examination as her main purpose was to be able to backpacking China and Taiwan. She successfully completed her dream last summer and her feedback to me was that she found my teaching really dead-on her needs during the travel. Due to the large number of Economics students (both LSE and UCL) that I am currently having, I am especially familiar with teaching first year mathematical methods for Economists.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that people learn the best when they are motivated. For that purpose, I constantly taking my students' feedback and their changes in life into account and adjust the teaching immediately so as to make them want to learn. And then I teach them precisely what they are required to know in a most succinct language so that every bit of their brain power is used in the place where it is most needed.

Personal Description:
I am currently studying for my PhD degree in Process Engineering at the University of Leeds. From my previous studies, I have a BEng in Chemical Engineering (First Class Honours) and an MSc in Process Systems Engineering (Distinction Equivalent). I also finished with A1 grade (the highest grade) in Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Further maths in my O-Level exam (the equivalent of GCSE).

I am an easy going person with a strong passion for teaching, especially when it comes to teaching young people science related subjects. My extra-curricular activities are mainly indoor games such as table-tennis, scrabble, snooker (i.e. pool), etc. However, I used to play football a lot when I was much younger and still do from time to time.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching right from my secondary school days by way of tutorials for my classmates and juniors and I taught virtually all science subjects and mathematics. When I gained admission into the university for my bachelor's degree, I continued with my teaching by way of tutorials, which eventually left indelible marks in the faculty I graduated from because of the series of solution banks I produced in various courses.

Also, after finishing my master's degree programme at Cranfield University and before resuming for my current PhD studies, I was a lecturer in my bachelor's degree alma mater and I taught engineering mathematics, chemical engineering analysis (which is application of maths to chemical engineering) and several other courses to undergraduate engineering students.

The fact is that I have been in the teaching profession for so many years (more than 10 years) and I am passionate about it because I derive so much joy in doing it whenever I am given the opportunity.

Tutoring Approach:

First and foremost, I do not believe that anybody is incapable of learning a given subject no matter how hard people may describe it; although I admit to the fact that we all assimilate at different rates. Therefore, I normally assume the lowest assimilation rate for my tutee when I am about to start tutoring. As time progresses and based on his or her response I may step-up my assumption if I discover that I have underestimated his or her ability.

Another thing I normally do during tutoring is to include as much hands-on exercises as possible because that is one of the fastest ways of inculcating seemingly hard subjects that involve a lot of calculations. Also, I always let my tutee know the various ways of approaching a given problem so as to broaden his knowledge base and thinking faculty

Personal Description:
I am currently a fifth year medical student at Addenbrookes Hospital and Queens' college, Cambridge. I achieved a first class in my second year coming 39th out of 340 students. I graduated last year with a BA Cantab. I offer tutoring in Biology and Physics up to A-Level / Advanced Higher level and Chemistry and Maths to GCSE. I live in Cambridge and have my own transport. My own academic interests are in Pathology and Physiology. During the summer of 2012 I will be involved in a UCL project looking at genetic adaptation involved in pregnancy at altitude in Nepal. I am very enthusiastic and enjoy teaching, so that I can pass on some of my enthusiasm and knowledge to others so that they can succeed. I have always been dedicated to achieving high academic goals and am very approachable and friendly.

Teaching Experience:

Over the last 2 years I have tutored 8 different students at GCSE level in science and maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to:
1.) Inspire my students to set high academic goals and to achieve them.
2.) Provide high quality teaching in a way that makes the subject matter interesting.
3.) Give guidance on learning and revision techniques in order to instill confidence and discipline in studying.

In more detail:
1.) I believe that, given a stimulating learning environment, a disciplined approach to learning and exam preparation and confidence in one's abilities, most students reading science courses should be able to attain goals that may seem challenging at first. Having recently experienced the sharp end of university application procedures I feel that I am also in a good position to offer advice and guidance on higher education applications (particularly medical applications), including interview preparation and personal statement advice.

2.) I aim to teach underlying concepts and principles as a priority. A basic grasp of these allows finer detail to be added on top and avoids the large amounts of learning by rote that is sometimes associated with science courses. I will also, wherever possible, try to extend students' interest beyond the syllabus, as enthusiasm for a subject is a huge step on the way towards academic success.

3.) Just as the understanding of science subjects requires good application of underlying themes, learning and revision can be greatly improved by a structured approach. I aim to pass on study skills that I have learnt myself as well as spend time, if a particular examination is forthcoming, focusing on exam technique.

Personal Description:
I am an Oxford scholar who has just graduated with a Masters in Materials, Economics and Management. I specialize in tutoring students towards applications to Oxbridge but I am also experienced in tutoring students towards 11+, GCSE and A level exams in Maths, Physics and Chemistry.

I am currently situated near Surbiton and I am available to work in all surrounding areas (Kingston-Upon-Thames, Claygate, Esher, Hersham, Cobham, New Malden and so on) from now (the beginning of July) until the end of October 2014.

Teaching Experience:

I have around 400 hours of teaching experience dedicated to helping students apply to Oxford and Cambridge for a variety of engineering, maths and science based subjects. This involves teaching Maths, Physics and Chemistry to A level and beyond, as well as mock interviews, interview technique and personal statement consultations.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that the main benefit one-to-one tutoring has over a classroom is that it gives the student the time and space to work through problems logically on their own. Subject content is often taught at a very quick pace in the classroom and students must often take the information at face value without understanding it, and this is especially true in maths and science. But excellent grades don't come from being able to regurgitate facts and equations, they come from understanding where they come from.

My tutorials don't take the form of a class or a lecture, and in fact, more often than not the tutee does most of the talking. We have carefully set goals which we work through at the student's pace in order to allow complete understanding. In doing this I have successfully tutored a number of students towards places at Oxford and Cambridge, and helped their understanding in maths, physics and chemistry.

Personal Description:
I have recently finished my course in Accounting and Business Management in Central London where I attained a first class degree. I have recently set up my own tutoring business through referrals that I had been receiving. I'm great children and find it easy to relate to struggles and problems that they may be facing in school. I have a genuine agenda to help improve student's ability in Maths and where applicable offer transferable skills that could be useful in other subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience of teaching in summer schools in East London to children aged 5-17. I have had work experience in Shooter Hill Post 16 in Maths. For the last five years I have been going to student's home to teach them and have come across many different issues that has given me a wealth of knowledge and experience. Although I'm able to teach Business exceptionally well, I focus on Maths because of experience in the subject start from Key Stage 2 through to GCSE level.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching Maths is locating areas of where there is lack of understanding and building foundation from there. The most common problem is that some concepts have not been understood and therefore the student cannot go further until it is understood. It is therefore pivotal that a general assessment takes place.

Teaching is something that I enjoy doing. I believe in clarity and tend to teach people in manners which I wish I was taught. I break things down and offer plenty chances for the student to ask questions. My approach to tutoring is to equipped the student with relevant knowledge first then immediate application. I want to create an environment where the student can inform me if they don't understand the topic. I like to give simple questions until they are confident enough to deal with an advance question. I believe in encouraging students and making the learning process exciting and fun.

Personal Description:
I am a recent graduate from the University of Leicester in Mathematics. I am passionate about teaching, not just because I am enthusiastic about my subjects, but because I am driven to help people reach their full potential, and achieve what they strive for in life. Education is the key to success in many ways, and I am eager to give people the best I have, in order to see them achieve. My hobbies are to travel and find out about many different cultures. I love to learn new languages and understand life from different perspectives. As a keen traveller myself, I love to hear about life in different countries, as well as teaching about my own culture and lifestyle, hence why I became a qualified teacher of English as a Foreign Language.

Teaching Experience:

For the last 5 years, I have tutored Children from ages 9-16 in Mathematics, preparing them for exams such as GCSEs, or assisting them with their difficulties in order to help the progress to the level of their classroom or their desired level. I have also assisted in Mathematics lessons in my local Secondary School.
I have taught English as a Foreign Language in Malawi, Tanzania, Brazil and England. This has been a variety of ways such as: working in student's homes, at a local cafe, in Primary/Secondary schools, and in an orphanage.

Tutoring Approach:

English as a Foreign Language can be taught according to your needs i.e. it may be conversational, it may be written, it may be providing listening material etc. Depending on your needs, this may be performed online via Skype or google+, simply via email where we can have instant chat, or depending on where you and your needs we can arrange lessons where we meet in person.
Mathematics is a more practical subject, where I would need to teach the theory before setting exercises to find out the problems of the student before addressing those problems in order to see the children develop and achieve progress in that area. Mathematics lessons are best produced in person, however if necessary online lessons could be arranged.
I am willing to change material, and be flexible with my methods of teaching depending on the age and academic level of each individual student.

Personal Description:
I am 29 years old and have been teaching A level and GCSE English and history at sixth form college for seven years, in which time my results have far surpassed national pass rates. Moreover, due to these outstanding pass rates and innovative teaching methods, my English department has been awarded a grade 1 'Outstanding' for the past 4 years. I have a passion for English and history, and take great pride in providing an excellent education to all of my students, seeing it as crucial to success in their later careers.

Teaching Experience:

I have a broad range of experience turning around failing classes, as well as challenging high achieving students. In my teaching career thus far I have taught a wide age range from 9-18 years, and specialise in teaching troubled students and those lacking confidence, as well as pushing very bright pupils. Since I began teaching at my institution, English pass-rates have received a 25% upwards leap in two years, so that the vast majority of my classes are now passing with high academic grades and attaining entry to prestigious preparatory schools and/or universities. With these excellent results I have now been made an advanced teaching practitioner, tasked with passing on my skills to other teachers and helping drive up standards

Tutoring Approach:

Besides enjoying superb results, my pupils benefit from a relaxed yet challenging atmosphere, with high commitment being expected of them and this has shown to bring both personal and academic growth, which is always pleasing to see. Moreover, in strengthening self-esteem and exciting the minds of my students, to provide them with the skills they need to excel in later life, I seek to provide them with only the finest education possible.
