Teaching Experience:

Over 2500 hours tuition experience. I offer tuition in Chemistry up to A level, Maths and Science up to GCSE. I also provide numeracy and literacy tuition for those sitting Armed Forces and aircraft/helicopter pilot exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to get the very best out of students using a variety of teaching methods with a strong emphasis on exam technique. I have helped pupils of all ages and abilities both on a one-to-one basis as well as within small groups.

Every person is different, and every person has his/her own grasping ability whether at home or in school. With this in mind I am very flexible and adaptable in my approach to teaching, and endeavor to create a learning environment where the pupil can thrive.

Personal Description:
I am myself a student, currently doing my final year of Bachelor at the University of Glamorgan. I come from a strongly mathematical background, having graduated from the high school of mathematics in my home town in Bulgaria. My current degree program is Environmental Engineering.

Teaching Experience:

I have no teaching experience.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to explain complicated concepts in a simple and logical way, looking at things from different angles so that the student can understand the logic and principle behind the concepts, not just memorize. I believe that once a person is able to understand the basic logic of things, it is very easy to build on knowledge and skills from there on. Mathematics is a science of logic.

Personal Description:
I am a third year medical student at Imperial College London University. I enjoy teaching and working with younger students. I have successful past experience assisting students with the medical application process, I'm happy to help with interview technique, look over personal statements and tutor UKCAT and BMAT. With 10 GCSES (9A* and 1A grade) and 4 A grade A-levels in Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Geography and the first part of my medical degree complete, I am well equipped to tutor a range of GCSE level and A-level subjects.

I have experience tutoring a range of subjects, I currently am tutoring students in maths and science (GCSE and A-level) and also preparing students for 11+ entrance exams. Hence, I am kept up to date on the different syllabuses and know how to tackle a subject to achieve the best of a student's ability.

I am willing to cover all areas of the subject, addressing any areas of particular weakness as well as going over past papers and helping with exam technique.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience tutoring students with ages ranging from 10-17 years old, in subjects including Maths, Science (GCSE and A-level) and 11+. I am currently tutoring 11+, Maths GCSE, Science GCSE, Maths A-level and Biology A-level. Other recent experience includes; Maths and Physics to a 14 year old over the summer.

Doing this has kept me up to date with different syllabuses and grading of exams. I am also aware of the style of exams and what is expected at each level.

During 2008 and 2007 I regularly tutored students aged 12 - 15 in maths. Working with students of a range of ages and abilities, has enabled me to develop methods of explaining concepts to students, so they fully understand. This was further enhanced by my experience and skills gained when volunteering at a school for children with learning difficulties.

From 2009 onwards, I have assisted students in one to one sessions with medical school admissions, from their personal statement, BMAT essays to interview practice. I have lectured at conferences geared towards helping groups of students applying to do medicine. Having gone through the process myself and helping many others do so too I am very familiar with the application process.

Tutoring Approach:

I go through the exam syllabus, and focus on any areas of weakness or where the student themselves does not feel particularly confident. I use past exam papers as these are a great way to practice, improve performance and work on exam technique. They also help to boost the student's confidence and ensure they know what to expect.

I ask the student what their expectations are and what grade they want to aim for, I will then make a plan of the necessary hours of tutoring and additional work (eg. completing a past paper and then in a session I would go over it) that I think the student will need to achieve this.

I will set out additional work that can be completed outside tutor sessions to reinforce what has been learnt in the sessions. I will also occasionally set out small tests encompassing what has been learnt in previous sessions, to highlight if there are any remaining weaknesses in understanding.

I am friendly, approachable and patient so when a student doesn't understand something properly they should not be afraid to say.

Personal Description:
I graduated from Loughborough University with an honours degree in Industrial Chemistry. I then went on to do three years research in Photochemistry to gain a Masters degree from Kingston University. I also have another masters degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Aston in Birmingham and a Masters in Business Administration from Kingston University. I have over 25 years of industrial experience. During my career I took a pro-active role in training and mentoring new graduates joining the firms I worked for, GEC Telecommunications Ltd and Fujitsu plc.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 14 years of teaching experience in business studies at the Open University teaching at both undergraduate and post graduate levels. I have been tutoring KS1 to KS3, GCSE and A-Level students in Science subjects and Mathematics for 3 years. I also tutor English at KS1 to KS3 and GCSE levels. At present I am tutoring KS3, GCSE and A Level students in English, Science Subjects and Mathematics.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a mentoring and nurturing approach to teaching. I prepare students both at GCSE and A Levels to sit examinations by the three main examining boards in England, namely, Aqa, OCR and Edexcel. I prefer to tutor from home and only take on a very limited number of students so that I can give my full attention to their examination success. I have tutored students who have been deemed not to be high achievers by their schools, but have subsequently gone on to gaining A grades at GCSE. I am highly motivated and nothing gives me greater pleasure than to get letters from students thanking me for helping them to gain examination success. I tutor from home as I have found students perform best in this situation and I also have access to all my teaching resources as necessary to tailor each lesson to suit a particular students needs. Although I feel tutoring from my home is a good approach I am prepared to travel to a student's home but will of course need to charge travel costs.

Personal Description:
I am 21 years old and I am in my final year at The University of Manchester where I am studying French and Italian. I have spent 6 months in Bologna in Italy, working in a private language school for those wished to learn either Italian or English. I worked as a copywriter for the school website, working in French, Italian and English. I also worked as a conversation tutor to those who wanted to learn English. I am now waiting on my results for a recognised qualification, a C1 CILS exam. In the same year, I lived in Paris for four months where I worked at ELLE, the well known women's fashion magazine, where I used solely French. I am very down to earth and my biggest passion is football, I enjoy a good movie and love a good comedy. If you feel more comfortable meeting in a neutral place, a coffee place or in the town centre that is fine by me. It is flexible. A clean criminal record and can boast a detention-less education! (So far!)

Teaching Experience:

I have had limited teaching experience but I have shadowed those who have done this for a job and having already worked as a conversation tutor, I feel I would excel given the chance.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel every student works at their own pace, however it would not take me long to work out an approach which would realise the full potential of the tutee. I am patient and I can sympathise that learning a new language or topic can be frustrating.

Personal Description:
I have recently graduated from Middlesex University with a degree in Psychology (2.1) and I am currently undertaking a Post graduate certificate of Education (PGCE) in Primary Education.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a tutor for two years at London Advanced College (LAC) tutoring Key stage 1, 2, 3 and 4 in English Language, Literature and Maths. I have also worked as a reading recovery assistant in a primary for the last academic year focusing on children who experienced difficulty with reading.

During my 1 year placement of my degree, I worked at Great Ormond Street Children's hospital school where I worked on a one-to-one basis with children who experienced difficulties, between the ages of 5 and 16 years in various different subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

My experience combined with my theoretical knowledge have enabled me to give tutoring of high quality with structured lesson plans to enable a student to progress successfully. I consider very important the variety of learning styles and ensure that when tutoring I teach in ways of which I feel the student will fulfil their full potential to progress and improve. I achieve this aim with effective planning and ensure that I have prior knowledge (through research if not already known) to essential information such as examining boards, national curriculum, past papers, etc.

My degree in psychology not only educated me of the connection between mind and behaviour, but also development stages a child can experience during their road to adolescence and adulthood with regards to education and social influences. By learning this, I have considered the importance of one-to-one teaching and moulding a session to cater for the student's needs and learning styles. In my experience I have seen that this not only improves a child's academic achievement but also their confidence. This is the approach I take when teaching.

Personal Description:
I have a first degree (1st Class) and PhD in chemistry, both from a Russell group university, Manchester. I worked for 8 years in the chemical industry and then in science policy

Teaching Experience:

Currently tutoring A level Chemistry and GCSE Maths and Science.

I also really enjoyed teaching undergraduates as teaching assistant while doing my PhD. Since then I have helped colleagues with chemistry qualifications, developed staff's chemical understanding and skills and as a parent helped my children learn about science.

Clare is patient, friendly and reliable, with a sense of humour and demeanour that allows you to make mistakes without fear. I would thoroughly recommend her as a tutor. Tracie OU student

Tracie , OU student

Tutoring Approach:

The great advantage of tutoring is that I can find out exactly you are having trouble with and work with you to find ways of explaining it that makes sense to you.

I will also make sure that you understand the basics, as without this, you won't be able to understand more complicated concepts.

The first (free) session is usually a 'trial' session so I can 'assess' the tutee's needs. We can then decide how (and if) we can work together and the best way to achieve the result wanted

Please note I currently have limited availability until end of May

Personal Description:
Currently at Oxford university as an undergraduate doing a BA Experimental Psychology degree. Outside of term time I live in Putney, SW London and would be available for tutoring in SW London. I will specify my term dates and consequent availability when contacted. My academic qualifications are as follows:

Cambridge Pre-U: Chemistry D1, English D2
A-Level: Maths A*, Further Maths A*
GCSE: Maths A*, English A, Chemistry A*, Biology A*, Physics A*, Russian A*, Spanish A*, French A*, Latin A*

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored my neighbours in A-level maths, GCSE maths and biology, and all common entrance subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

I will first assess the capabilities of the student and then model my explanations accordingly, as I have found that different approaches suit different people. Understanding will be consolidated by the student completing either work of his or her own, or work that I will set which will test that he or she understands the principle behind the work, as opposed to simply adopting a template for solving all questions of a certain type. I will also try to foster a genuine interest in the subject, as a receptive and willing mind receives and integrates ideas much better than one simply focused on ticking boxes, so to speak.

Personal Description:
A high achieving student of theoretical physics at Imperial College London, enjoying explaining difficult concepts to young people. With positive attitude towards children.

Teaching Experience:

I have a five-year experience with tutoring mathematics and physics and with leading physics and astronomy clubs.

Each time my tutees not only improved their marks, but also deepened the understanding of the field and were more motivated in further learning.

Tutoring Approach:

I always seek deeper engagement with a tutee; I try to motivate him by explaining the usefulness of the field that he/she is learning. I ask a lot of questions testing the depth of understanding.

Personal Description:
I am a female with a Bsc in Biomedical science and a MRes Masters in health research. I am currently in the 2nd year of my PhD on pain and cardiovascular disease at Keele University. I have an excellent academic track record. I play football for GFC Alfreton Ladies and manage and coach the Under 12 girls team. Im outgoing and friendly and try to put people at ease when they talk to me. I also love animals and train my dogs in agility.

I am professional but caring, I don't get mad when things get hard I just explain in a different way.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for just over 5 years now with all my pupils showing some level of improvement. Many going up a grade or more and having vastly improved confidence. I can provide references if required. I have tutored from primary to University level.

Tutoring Approach:

Im quite easy going I dont like to be to strict as I find students are then scared to ask me questions if they dont understand something. However I do stear the studying with a firm hand and dont let them get too far off topic as it means they arent using their time with me effectively. I have more of a hands on approach as I like to work through a few examples with the student to see where they are going wrong if they are going wrong so I can correct them at a particular step and I find that tends to help them remember things more. Practice papers are also used quite a lot along with the letts revision guides and question books as they are excellent visual aids. I do set tasks at the end of the session to be completed by the next session to show me if the student has understood it and if they can apply the rational to different questions. I also leave my email address etc so that if the student really struggles with something and does need an answer they only have to contact me.

I have a reference from Diane Frost the mum of one of my GCSE tutees as listed below, she has consented to being contacted by anyone who may wish to employ me.

'Sarah has been tutoring my daughter to GCSE standard in maths and science for the past 5 months. Her grades have gone from a D grade to a high possibility of B grades. I've found Sarah to be very conscientious and motivating tutor who always has time to talk through any worries my daughter may have. Sarah is a very polite and pleasant young lady and I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending her to anyone wishing to employ her. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss anything further'

Personal Description:
I am a Cambridge Economics graduate (2.1) and a qualified Chartered Accountant, so I also have
experience of working in the business world. I have science A levels including maths.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for a year and a half and enjoy it very much!
I am also a trained coach and use these skills in my tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:

All of my pupils have made excellent progress and I am very good at explaining things in simple
terms, as well as being very approachable and friendly.
I have a natural rapport with children and they very much enjoy my tutoring and make rapid progress.
With smaller children, I am good at figuring out how they tick and therefore the best way to teach them. I find they are very responsive to colours and I make learning into a game, as much as is possible. I would say though that I have an old-fashioned approach to teaching and make sure they know the basics.
With economics I try to get the pupils to understand the concepts, as opposed to just learning them by rote. I think it also helps that I have worked in the business world so I have a much more in depth understanding of the subject. I also make sure they have a good knowledge of graphs as there are good marks to be had for these!

Personal Description:
I am a 25 year old mechanical engineering graduate from UCL. Throughout my time in school, college and university i excelled in maths and other mathematical related subjects. I developed an interest in mathematics from a young age and i firmly believe that by mastering this particular subject, that further success in other scientific subjects can be achieved, as maths promotes utilising logic to deduce solutions to posed problems, which is a valuable attribute to have at your disposal at all levels of study.

I have tutored students in this field for many years and have seen them develop their mathematical skills and obtain the grades they required for progression into the next step of their education. I have a very positive and optimistic attitude towards teaching and learning, which i encourage the students to share, as i believe that the best results are obtained with putting in great effort and by having a positive attitude.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring pupils from a variety of backgrounds in maths since i was studying for my A-levels, which has given me plenty of years of experience. The majority of students i have taught for GCSE and A-level maths were sitting it on the Edexcel board, although i am flexible and have taught to students on other boards.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring students requires a very individualistic approach as each pupil has their own unique strengths and weaknesses in maths. As tuition with a specific student progresses, i will be able to assess which topics require additional focus, and of course i listen to the respective student's own thoughts on which topics they would prefer to focus on improving.

I generally teach topics from the particular text-book each student is using at the time. However, as the pupil makes progress though the text-book, i like to supplement their learning by going through past-paper questions with them, as i feel that from my own experiences and from what previous students have told me, that covering past-paper questions will best prepare them for the real thing, in terms of knowing what to expect and increasing their confidence.

Personal Description:
I am currently at university studying an Aerospace engineering degree.

I am a bright, happy young man. I will ensure that my tutee ensures their weaknesses become strengthen as quickly as possibe and their understanding of the subject is even beyond their curriculum.

I am highly motivated throughout my studies and will also mirror this onto my tutees.

Teaching Experience:

As for my academia, my maths and sciences are at their top of their game. I am currently studying aerospace engineering and have experience in tutoring a level students with especially their maths. I have also done peer mentoring before and understand how to cope with subjects at school.

I have much experience as a martial artist. I have been training since the age of 5, and represent the UK around the world in World Championships abroad. I am currently a bronze medallist.

Tutoring Approach:

I first need to acquire the tutee's weaknesses. From there I can work on their problems and encourage them to work at them. I have more than enough resources which I still have from my school.

At anytime the student requires help, they can contact me on my number, this is to allow them to have support all the time.

My strengthens lie within the sciences and maths.

Personal Description:
I am a bold and friendly person. I am a post-grad student at the university of leicester. I've finished my under-graduation in India and have performed extremely well. I have scored a 100% in mathematics in my A-level in India and was the only student in my school to do so.

Teaching Experience:

Home tuition for A-level in India during my vacation

Tutoring Approach:

Firstly I would analyse the student and his/her knowledge in the subject. Then I would explain a concept and workout a few examples based on it. The student is free to ask questions or doubts anytime during the teaching session. After the student has understood the concept, I would ask the student to workout a problem based on the above concept. I can also assist with any assignments given to the student

I believe in an interactive session between me and the tutee.

Personal Description:
I achieved the highest grades at GCSE and A-Level, and went on to complete a BSc in Mathematics with Finance and Management at King's College London. Since graduating, I have worked in the financial services during which I have continued learning and practising maths. I'm currently studying and working with financial pricing models and my passion for maths is still burning!

Teaching Experience:

I've taught many people many things, whether it be maths, software applications, accounting, finance, cooking or swimming! I've always worked well with others and often used the teaching of others to help improve my own understanding, throughout GCSEs, A-Levels and University. Although I've not practised tutoring as a job before, I am confident in my abilities to teach and fully enjoy the process and reward!

Tutoring Approach:

Drawing from personal experience, the thing I find most helpful whilst understanding maths is attempting to verbally explain exactly what it is you don't understand. This helps to pin point the problem and shed light on any shady areas surrounding the problem, as well as highlight what you do know and in turn, increase confidence in maths. I like to spend some time analysing areas of weakness and then put together a study plan(not strict) through which we can efficiently tackle the various subjects. Establishing effective ways of teaching individual students is important; whether it be visually, verbally or actively, and will be established early on also. I'm not strict on time spent, I will happily spend a bit more time getting it right for the same price!
