Personal Description:
I'm Matthew and I've been helping my students succeed at school and university for over twenty years.

I teach all the modules for A level Maths and Further Maths, A level Statistics, and some A level Physics. (I also work with undergraduates on courses with mathematical content, such as Economics and Business Studies.)

My focus is on achieving high grades through understanding the material. (70% of my students achieved an A or an A* in the 2013 exams.) I tailor my approach depending on individual needs and interests and I believe in making the mathematics as simple and enjoyable as possible. I am enthusiastic, friendly and approachable. I really want my students to succeed and I'm very happy to be contacted outside of their lesson time.

It is not enough simply to do well at A level, of course: students need to be given the tools to succeed at university. To that end I take a very full interest in their education generally. As one student recently put it, I am "so much more than just a maths tutor". For example I give guidance and support with university entrance, including the UCAS personal statement, applying to Oxford and Cambridge, and interview preparation.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for over twenty years, at top-ranking schools including Charterhouse in Surrey and Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, USA. I've run dotmaths for eight years, successfullly helping well over 200 students achieve higher grades in their exams and gain entry to their preferred university.

I have taught almost every module in Mathematics and Further Mathematics for each of the four English A-level specifications (Edexcel, AQA, OCR and MEI) as well as the International Baccalaureate, the Pre-U and the US Advanced Placement Calculus and Statistics courses.

I have prepared candidates for the AEA (Advanced Extension Award), the Oxford Entrance Test and STEP (Sixth Term Exam Paper for entry in Mathematics to Cambridge and other top universities).

Tutoring Approach:

I'm passionate about mathematics and I love teaching it. While I understand that students and their parents are usually looking for a tutor to improve their grades (and my students do get high grades and get into top universities) I also believe it's important to concentrate on understanding as well as learning. Exam success is greatly helped by understanding where the mathematics comes from and how it is used. My style is to make the subject as simple and as enjoyable as possible. My approach produces outstanding results: one of my students came to me in March of his A2 year with E's and U's in his mathematics modules. He resat his whole A level in June and was awarded an A* and got into his first choice university, Manchester, to read mathematics.

Personal Description:
I am a caring and patient teacher . I develop good relationships with my pupils and care about their general well being. I adapt teaching aproaches to suit individual pupils to enable them to engage with the learning in a postive and supportive way. Children say they like my lessons and enjoy being tutored by me.
If you home school your child I can provide tutoring of a specific subject area fit around your timetable and the way your child prefers to learn.
I am also a parent of boys with SEN,(dyslexia, dyspraxia, autism and adhd) and have a good knowledge of special education needs and the impact of these on teaching, learning and home life.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for 5 years in the primary age range and really enjoy it. I have been privately tutoring for 6 years covering both all literacy areas and maths. I have up-to-date training in the new grammar, spelling and punctuation KS2 SAT's paper. In the area of spelling, I have current experience in the synthetic phonics approach. I have used this from the beginning stages in year 1, and also adapted teaching with the support of practical materials to pupils in KS2.
I can provide references from parents of current pupils.

I am able to support your child through the transition into secondary school, providing practical ideas to get ready and support during the first term to enable them to remain positive about their potential as a learner. I can also help advise on issues arising from difficulties in personal organisation from moving around the school to coping with having the right things in their bag on a daily basis.

I can tutor pupils through secondary education in English and English literature. I can support those who are experiencing dyslexic issues and need some support with homework.

Tutoring Approach:

I treat each child as an individual taking into account both parents and the pupils views and needs. I provide suport to catch up on missed areas of basic skills, which is delaying learning, as well as being able to support targets set by school for the pupils individual progress. Through an initial consultation I seek to find out what the needs are and, with parents and pupil, plan suitable help to reach their goals. I share objectives with parents and pupils and give regular feed back to both to reach those goals. I belive it is important for all to see progress is being made. With parents and pupils permission, I like to make contact with their teacher to work with class teacher in identifing areas of difficulty and planning appropriate support. I find that this approach give the maximum benefit for all concerned.
The greatest difference I make to my pupils is to increase their confidence which in turn enables them to be more willing to take part in whole class sessions at school. Teachers of at least 2 of my pupils have remarked on the difference in attitude of the pupils who I have tutored.

Personal Description:
I am a Mathematics graduate from the University of Nottingham. During my time at university I began tutoring to supplement my income, and because I found it to be an enjoyable and rewarding experience I have continued to work with students (at various levels) since. I worked at Imperial College London for a number of years but have returned to Chesterfield to train as a teacher.

Away from employment and tutoring I am a usual twenty something who enjoys (lots of) sports, reading, eating, and seeing my friends.

Teaching Experience:

I have nine years experience as a private tutor, working with children from 9 years up to 18 years of age including 3 with diagnosed dyslexia and/or dyscalculia.

As part of my previous employment at Imperial College London I taught Mathematics - differential and integral calculus, exponentials and logarithms, amongst other topics - to undergraduate Geology and Geophysics students, receiving feedback amongst the best in the department.

I am happy to pass on multiple references for both the tuition and teaching.

I also acquired experience of teaching English to non-native speakers during my gap year in Japan (2006 - 2007).

Tutoring Approach:

In my experience the dynamic in each tutor/tutee relationship is unique but if I were to describe myself I would say that whilst being able to motivate and challenge my students I am still relaxed and friendly. I would, however, suggest speaking to my references to get an idea of my approach to tutoring.

Personal Description:
I am a committed teacher who loves teaching across many areas. I enjoying injecting my creative streak into lessons. I have qualified teacher status and I teach in schools on a day to basis.

Teaching Experience:

I have 6 years teaching experience across many age ranges. I have recently undertaken Read, Write, Inc training - a programme geared towards developing readers and writers.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe children need to learn with a hands on approach, when they are doing they are learning.

Want to help your child move from a 2c to a 2b or a 1b to a 1a? Sometimes all it takes is a little bit of extra help that the teacher can't always give. Maybe your child is doing well in school and you feel they are restricted by the curriculum.

Lessons are tailored to each students needs, reading, numeracy and literacy are covered using structured schemes and fun activities. The lessons are not restricted by the curriculum so your child could be learning things they wouldn't learn until the next academic year or catching up on concepts not yet grasped. Homework can also be set.

I have recently begun writing guided reading books designed to improve writing by identifying and practising the core elements (Riley's Writers - available on Amazon) as well as creating resource games so children can practise key skills in a fun way that promotes repetition (essential for learning many aspects of literacy and numeracy).

All learning takes place in my home. Slots are available weekdays, evenings, weekends and school holidays. Sessions are 45 minutes long.

Tutoring Approach:

Due to high demand I now only offer group sessions for the 11+. The 11+ is an extremely challenging examination and few children are able to pass without additional help. I push all of my children to achieve the best possible result. For many children the 11+ is not appropriate and this is discussed with parents at the free assessment. It is usually apparent after an hour assessment of the child, whether or not they are capable of passing the exam.
I am now taking bookings for January 2015. Places are available for year 4 and 5 children. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to reserve a place for your son or daughter or if you wish to discuss things further.

Personal Description:
I graduated from University of Leeds as Masters in Bio-science in 2011. I have worked as a research technician (Faculty of biological sciences at University of Leeds) since my graduation. I have been tutoring on weekends while I was working as a research technician, as I love helping students with their grades. I have demonstrated undergraduates in the laboratory and helped them understand science from a pracical point of view. I have decided to dedicate myself as a private tutor for sometime from beginning of march till june 2014. Every student needs certain kind of guidance which is different from other fellow student in his/her class. Understanding the nature of the student and helping them with their difficulties is what I do. I am a very patient girl and very good with adoloscents with their behaviour. From my experinece of tutoring and having a brother who is appearing for AS level this year, I have gathered that teenagers are more comfortable taking help from tutors than parents.

Teaching Experience:

I have earlier taught students of age group 11-16 and helped them gain confidence in their weak subjects.
I was a research technician at University of Leeds so I had to demonstrate and teach them how to do things.
I love science and have higher education in field of biological science,so I am efficient and capable to teach kids the basics of science.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel tutoring is all about understanding the way the student grasps the concepts and implements. I prefer the fun-way of learning and remembering things. In this way the student remembers the basics and never forgets rather than practicing without understanding main concept. I feel once you make the student comfortable and make them realize how they should approach particular subjects, the student develops his own skills of learning. Its all about interacting with the student and finding a way so as how to make a student get intersted in particular subject. The moment the student is intersted in the subject, its just matter of time that they start learning and helping themselves.

Currently, I am working on a PhD in 'mathematics cognition' which is furthering my knowledge of the best ways to teach and learn maths.

Personal Description:
I am a third year medical student at Imperial College London. Having just graduated from secondary school I feel that I am an ideal candidate to help ease the challenges of school subjects for students.

During my school career I achieved 8 A* and 4 A's. Furthermore I achieved 1 A* and 3 A's during my A levels, additionally I also achieved another A at As level in Further Maths. My AS physics grade was the best in my year achieving. 296/300 UMS. I have participated in the UK maths challenge achieving the bronze and silver award.

Teaching Experience:

I helped teach many students from younger years in a range of subjects and enjoyed watching them progress and improve. I think the fact that having just been through what most of these students are going through gives me a slight advantage due to my knowledge being recent and up to date. I also have experience in teaching A-level Maths as well as GCSE Maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I am patient and calm in my approach and try to ensure that each of my students understands the concepts of what I am teaching. I appreciate that each student is different and the approach taken to each of them must remain flexible.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified teacher with 7 years' experience within both Secondary and Further education.
I am very competent in my subject areas - maths and science. I have a BSc in Biomedical Science, HND in Applied Biology and am currently doing a distance learning course in Developing thinking in Statistics.
I am currently lecturing in Chemistry and Biology, and very much enjoy working in education as I have been teaching since the age of 23 after having worked in the science industry for just over a year, and have never looked back since.
My main aim is to make education enjoyable and accessible to all my learners, with an end outcome of achievement for each learner that I teach.
I have been tutoring since October 2007, and have many successful learners who have achieved top grades.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified lecturer and teacher (QTLS) with 7 years teaching experience teaching : A-level Biology; A-Level Chemistry; Access to Higher Education (Science); Access to Nursing Studies - physiology and anatomy; A-level PE - Sports psychology, Anatomy and physiology, Comparative Studies; AS mathematics; GCSE Science; GCSE maths; BTEC applied Science; Entry level science; Level 1/2 Numeracy, Key Skills and Functional skills; ESOL Science within Secondary schools and colleges.
I have successfully taught on Bridging maths and science courses in a college whereby young people (14 - 16 year olds) have been out of mainstream education for some time, have prematurely left secondary school, and may be youth offenders.
I have also worked as Head of Science in an inner London Pupil Referral Unit with disaffected young people where differentiation and ensuring learners enjoy the subject is vital in order to get them back into mainstream education (for Key Stage three pupils 11-14) or employment training (for Key Stage four pupils 14-16). I have also worked as course manager for BTEC in Applied Science, a learning mentor, a Science teaching assistant and a private tutor.
I am very competent in my main subject areas - maths and science. I have a BSc in Biomedical Science, and am currently studying a distance learning module on Developing thinking in Statistics which focuses on the psychology behind thinking in statistical maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to make teaching the curriculum enjoyable and accessible to all my learners' by catering to their individual needs. In the initial stages I often assess the learner's needs and the type of learner by using a variety of resources.
I also offer online tutoring services via Skype and WizIQ, which is just effective as face-to-face tutoring, with a large number of various resources including Powerpoints, video clips/animations, past exam papers and mark schemes, etc.
I have had some parents who were at first reluctant to try online tutoring however were quite pleased once commenced (written feedback/references available on request).
I am currently e-tutoring students in A-level PE: sports psychology, anatomy and physiology, comparative studies; GCSE maths; and GCSE Biology. I have also in the past tutored English to a student in India.

I work with the learner to aid and complement their studies with an aim for them to achieve and be successful.

Personal Description:
I am a first year PhD student in Bioengineering at Imperial College, London. I also did my undergraduate studies at Imperial. Furthermore, I completed my schooling in Trinidad and Tobago. where my A level courses included Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics, while GCSE courses included Mathematics, Spanish, Biology, English Literature and English Language, Chemistry and Physics.

Teaching Experience:

During my undergraduate studies, I volunteered with the Pimlico Connection where I visited a primary school every week, where I assisted in teaching the students (Years 7-9) Maths and Science. During the 2010 summer, I worked with the Teach First Student Associate scheme at Ashcroft Academy where I worked with A level students. My main role involved assisting in teaching Biology and Physics while mentoring and encouraging the students to pursue tertiary education. Furthermore, for the last year, I have been a Graduate Teaching Assistance where I work through Fluid Mechanic tutorials (2 classes of 25) with undergraduate students.

Tutoring Approach:

I know that students have different approaches to learning, so I always try to explain things as clearly as possible using different examples and questions so students will have a broader understanding of the concept. Furthermore I believe that students would excel more when they understand the topic rather than cramming at the last minute for exams. I think that practice (either through examples, or past papers) is important for exam preparation.

Personal Description:
I have a passion about teaching. it is very satisfying to help people in their studies and make sure they achieve what they are hoping to achieve. I have a master degree in Mechanical Engineering from University College of London. I am currently working as a Homologation engineer in Nissan which is based in Cranfield. I am 24 and married with no children yet.

Teaching Experience:

During school I set up a maths club for all grades in the school to help everyone with their maths concerns. This was a great opportunity to learn more about how to teach and explain mathematics. when I started going to university, I started to teach maths and physics privately and did it until I graduated.

Tutoring Approach:

I need to understand the needs of my tutee and their aims towards his/her grade. Then I normally talk and agree with them how to approach and get better on weak areas and improve on strong areas.

Personal Description:
I am currently in the final year of an Astrophysics PhD at UCL, which I began in 2010. Prior to this I obtained a first class MSci in Physics with Astrophysics at the University of Bristol. I hope to continue in an academic career when I complete my PhD, since I enjoy both teaching and research.

Teaching Experience:

I have two years of experience tutoring students ranging from year 9 up to university level. In addition, I have spent four semesters demonstrating in undergraduate Physics labs at UCL for one afternoon per week. I also have experience marking undergraduate problem sheets and exam papers, which helps me to advise students as to how they should approach their own exam preparation.

Tutoring Approach:

The ultimate goal of my previous students has been to achieve a certain exam grade or to pass an entrance exam. I think the key to preparing for exams in mathematical subjects is practice and so I aim to give students the confidence to answer questions on thier own. My approach to tutoring has therefore been to cover subject matter that the student is perhaps less confident with, before tackling exam-style questions in order to apply what they have learnt.
