Personal Description:
I`m passionate about mathematics and I love teaching it. While I understand that students and their parents are usually looking for a tutor to improve their grades (and my students do get high grades and get into top universities) I also believe it's important to concentrate on understanding as well as learning. Exam success is greatly helped by understanding where the mathematics comes from and how it is used.

My philosophy is "more than higher grades". I believe it is not enough simply to do well at A level, students need to be given the tools to succeed at university. To that end I take a very full interest in their education generally. As one student recently put it, I am "so much more than just a maths tutor". For example I give guidance and support with university entrance, including the UCAS personal statement and Oxbridge applications and interviews.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for over twenty years, at top-ranking schools including Charterhouse in Surrey and Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, USA. I have been a full-time private tutor for over eight years, helping more than 200 students achieve higher grades in their exams. That's in excess of 6,000 hours of teaching.

I have taught almost every module in Mathematics and Further Mathematics for each of the four English A-level specifications (Edexcel, AQA, OCR and MEI). I have prepared candidates for the Oxford MAT exam and the STEP exam (for entry to Cambridge, Warwick and Imperial.) I have been an examiner for Edexcel, AQA and Cambridge Assessments (OCR).

I was a Kitchener Scholar at the University of Cambridge, where I was awarded an Entrance Prize by Trinity College and the Philpott Prize for a first class examination performance. I took a second degree with the Open University, where I won the Leslie Walshaw award for scoring 100% in the examination in Mathematical Models and Methods. (In fact, I achieved first class passes in every assignment and examination for every course I took throughout the degree.)

I believe strongly in the importance of lifelong learning and continuous professional development. I spent a year at the University of York studying second year Physics, where I also developed an interest in Economics (and have taught it at undergraduate level). I've grown my business skills as an Enterprise Fellow at York St John University, and I've taken examinations in accounting at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (I scored 92% in Financial Accounting). I'm motivated in part by personal interest, but also by the desire to be able to give my students better advice and better teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

My style is to make the subject as simple and as enjoyable as possible. My approach produces outstanding results: one of my students came to me in March of his A2 year with E's and U's in his mathematics modules. He resat his whole A level after three months tuition with me and was awarded an A* and got into his first choice university, Manchester, to read mathematics. In 2013, 70% of my students achieved an A or an A* in their exams.

Personal Description:
I have enjoyed working with children in teaching and pastoral roles for more than seven years. I have completed Level 2 and Level 3 certificates in counselling training, and I am currently working towards my Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling; as a result I have developed valuable listening skills. My other interests include patchwork sewing and baking. I have a calm and gentle approach, and I have a proven ability to make children feel at ease when working with me.

Teaching Experience:

I have seven years experience of working in primary schools across all age-ranges. My various roles have included teaching: all subjects in whole class groups; extra basic skills support in small groups; and one-to-one phonics and spellings lessons. I have helped children to achieve excellent progress in all my roles.

In my experience as a private tutor for almost four years, I have tutored children between the ages of six and eleven, including preparation for SATs and eleven plus tests. I have excellent references which highlight children's significant progress and increased confidence since working with me.

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor tutoring to the individual child, focusing on their strengths and preferred learning styles. I use games to reinforce concepts while making learning enjoyable. I offer rewards, such as stickers and certificates, to motivate and recognise children's achievements. All my lessons are thoroughly planned and prepared, and regular assessment informs planning for later lessons.

Targets are set at an initial meeting and are reviewed on a termly basis, when new targets may be set. A written report is given to parents and carers at the end of each term. Reductions in fees are offered if you are able to pay for a block of lessons in advance.

Personal Description:
I am a lively and enthusiastic student, I am doing my degree at university and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I have always had a passion for teaching, as the younger generation is our future and I believe that it is very important that they are well educated. I know that private tutoring is very useful, as I myself have had it, it helps build confidence in students that don't feel that they are up to speed in school.

I am highly passionate about everything I do, this includes activities such as playing guitar and studying motors. I know that I am an able tutor when it comes to students of any ability.

Teaching Experience:

I started my career tutoring only young children on a casual basis, I now have tutored children professionally. My eldest student was 18, and my youngest was 6. I enjoy teaching children of all ages. I tutor in Maths, English and Spanish, and I am able to tutor in Film Studies too. I have studied all of these subjects myself and have gained respectable grades in them. I believe that having worked in a customer based environment for many years means that I am an easy to talk to person and I found that this is helpful in tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a university student, and I the way in which I teach is by using practice questions and repetitively going over the necessary work, as I believe that this helps the student grasp the work. I also aim to make sure that the student can understand the work as well as answer questions, as understanding is the most important part.

The lessons would always be well structured. I would begin by going over the facts and showing examples of how things can be solved. I would then go on to give practice questions, with which I would help, and finally I would leave the student with a practice question as homework.

Personal Description:
My name is Michael and my students usually call me Mickey. I am a qualified Maths and Mandarin teacher.I have finished my master degree from University of Southampton with distinction, PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Mathematics)) from King's College London and I also finished my undergraduate study with first class degree from University of Southampton as well. I was working as trader assistant ( yellow jacket ) in a top bank before changing to become a maths teacher. I have over six years experience in primary, entrance exam, GCSE and A-Level maths tutoring. I am always passionate for tutoring and I know how to make students' learning process enjoyable. My strong reputation has been built on my ability to improve my students' varying skills, ability and exam skills. I have unrivaled patience and understanding and I am able to bring the best maths tutoring experience to my students. I also have set up my own website with helpful maths resources for my students.

In 2011, I attended 3rd Mandarin Teacher Training which was held by Chinese government in London and I have also gained Qualified Mandarin Teaching Certification which was awarded and admitted by both Chinese and British government. (Original Copy on request). I am also a member of British Mathematical Association (BMA), London Mathematical Society (LMS), Association of Teachers of Mathematics (ATM) and British Society for Research into Learning Mathematics (BSRLM).

For your peace of mind ,I am also Enhanced DBS checked ,I will bring my Enhanced DBS check certificate at the first lesson.

Teaching Experience:

Currently I am working as a Maths and Mandarin teacher in a college. I am also working with many Tutoring Agencies as five star rated tutor like Top Tutors,Galaxies Learning and Delta Tutors. Unlike other tutors, I only teach limited number of students to ensure quality. My A-Level students successfully entered top universities like LSE, Warwick University, Imperial College and other elite Russell Group universities. Other students successfully got through entrance examination to top independent schools like City of London School, North London Collegiate School, Channing School and Merchant Taylors' School.

Education:

King's College London
Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Mathematics) (PGCE)

University of Southampton
MSc. in Accounting and Finance (Distinction)

University of Southampton
BSc. in Accounting and Finance (First Class)

Tutoring Approach:

Quality is everything for me. Apart from the highest teaching quality I am pursuing, my rate is also competitive as I was a student, I know how important it is to have someone to help at reasonable price. However, the normal rate is usually high. For me, I only charge reasonable price.

Recent International Student Assessment (ISA) shows that Chinese students ranked best in the world at maths ( UK is ranked 28th for maths, Source: google "Shanghai students ranked best in the world at maths and science", The Telegraph). As British Chinese, I can tell you the secret of Chinese learning maths. I have a unique method of tutoring which can be adapted whatever the skill level and also unique exam techniques. But my first objective is to target my students' enthusiasm for the subject so they will be passionate to learn mathematics. Practice is also essential for learning maths, but a good tutor knows how to design different questions for effective practice. Finally,I usually believe that learning is a continuing process and if I am honored to be your tutor, I can not only help you learn the knowledge, but also master the art of learning until one day, you will be able to help others like I do.

Personal Description:
I completed my A-levels in a year and was thus able to graduate from medical school as the youngest doctor in the university's recent history. In order to achieve the above I tried and tested a variety of techniques as well as revision materials which I have now perfected over the past few years. Being a doctor, I am very patient and friendly and I never judge anyone, my only aim is to offer my help to anyone who needs it. I have also had the privilege of interviewing potential medical students and am thus well experienced with helping with interviews for medical school.

Teaching Experience:

In high school I tutored fellow students with their GCSE's - I mainly tutored in English and Biology. I did group as well as individual tutoring and so have experience in helping any number of students at one time.

For the past 2 years I have helped university students attain their targets both with medical school exams general coursework. I am proud to say that I have always received positive feedback. Moreover, the South Thames Foundation School recently awarded me with a prestigious merit for teaching - a merit reserved for doctors who give up their personal time to help medical students attain their goals whilst at medical school.

Tutoring Approach:

I usually start off with a short questionnaire to understand your requirements and to recognise your strengths and weaknesses so that we do not waste time going through material you are familiar with. I then usually break down all the materials into small steps which we would go through in a systematic fashion. Whichever step you do not understand, I will use various approaches to ensure you are entirely comfortable before we move on.

I am a firm believer in ensuring that the foundation of knowledge is strong before endeavouring to understand the more intricate and detailed aspects of any subject. Therefore I will always make sure you understand the basics of whichever subject you are struggling with and this usually makes a massive difference with regard to future and more detailed understanding.

Personal Description:
I am a second year Oxford Undergraduate studying physics. I was at school at Winchester College where I boarded, giving me lots of opportunity to help other students of all abilities with their studies. I have three younger siblings who I have always helped with their learning.

Teaching Experience:

For the past two years I have been working as a private tutor in maths, physics and chemistry during the univeristy holidays. I have speciallised in helping struggling students at at GCSE and A-level who are failing to achieve the grades they need. I am also available to help bright students with maths or physics scholarship exams or Oxbridge interview preperation in physics.

Tutoring Approach:

The Christmas holiday is a crucial period to get on track for the summer exams. Filling gaps early on saves time, builds confidence and enables students to revise effectively nearer the time.
I have tutored both A-level and GCSE students over the Christmas period for the last two years and helped them build effective strategies to prepare them for a very academically important few months. Former students have always then extended the tuition into the more intensive Easter period, when we make the final preparations to ensure that they get the grades they deserve. I am in a unique position of having had recent experience of these exams and also a real knack of explaining how to solve problems in an effective and productive way, an area I get particularly good feedback on. So I know exactly what it takes to prepare effectively and I am equipped with the necessary skills to ensure my students carry it out.
I have particular success teaching Maths to students who are struggling or under confident in the approach to GCSE and students that have fallen behind in class and need some one-on-one sessions to get them back on track.

Tutoring Approach:

When I tutor I tend to balance explanations with problem solving exercises. The teaching side focus on ways to make even the most difficult scientific idea simple to understand through examples and real life applications, but truly understand a concept you need to apply it and to learn how to use it properly, and that's where the problem solving comes in.

Personal Description:
I have moved to North Devon in the last year and am setting up a Tutoring Business alongside training as a Psychotherapist. I have worked with children for 14 years and have a lot of experience with them and very much enjoy teaching them. The feedback I have had so far is that their child feels much more confident that then builds a good foundation for developing their learning skills.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a Primary School teacher for 9 years.

Tutoring Approach:

Please see above in my "About myself" section.
I work with each child as an individual. As each child is different, they have a unique approach to learning that I am willing to find out and use. I have a relaxed style but we cover a lot in the time we have and I have started to see a change after a few sessions.

Personal Description:
My name is Becky and I am an experienced Primary School Teacher. I specialise in preparing students for both the 11+ entrance exams, helping children prepare for SAT's, and also give booster sessions for children who need extra support at any age during their primary years. I have experience working across the age range and am a confident, knowledgeable practitioner. I aim to provide individually tailored lessons that will help your child achieve their very best potential.

Teaching Experience:

I qualified as a teacher with a 'first' class honours degree in Primary Education (BEd) as a mature student. I have since then been a subject coordinator for Gifted and Talented children, Art and Children in Care. I have taken every opportunity to keep myself up to date and enhance my subject knowledge of the Primary Curriculum, with regular and current training. I have two children who have both been successful in gaining places at Grammar Schools by taking and passing the 11+. I look forward to helping many more students achieve the same exam success.

Tutoring Approach:

For 11+ tutoring

I teach collaboratively with Chris, who is also listed on UK Tutors. We teach in a purpose built classroom, with access to an interactive whiteboard and other teaching tools. We jointly teach small groups with class sizes limited to a maximum of ten students. Students in a small group support each other and work together with a shared purpose and confidence. Having both an experienced Primary teacher, and an experienced Secondary teacher, will give your child a unique and highly effective session.

Chris is a knowledgeable Secondary School Teacher who specialised in Chemistry. He has had a successful career in both Independent Schools and Mainstream and was Head of Chemistry at Plymstock School for 10 years. He has now built on his success and become a, much sought after, self employed Professional Tutor. He not only is an academic tutor, but also is a Professional Drummer and offers drumming lessons in his purpose built studio. Chris has a fully enhanced CRB.

Weekly 60 minute sessions at £17.50, run from September until the end of February. These are followed by 75 minute sessions at £20 which run from March to the September exams. Payment is monthly in advance, preferably by bank transfer.

For SATs preparation and Booster sessions

I work with either small groups of children within the same year group, or with individual students. i can help your child with any aspect of the Primary Curriculum and also help guide and support you to help your child achieve their best. I am highly competent and trained in helping children with special educational needs.

Weekly 60 minute sessions on a 1-1 basis cost £20.00. Weekly 60 minute sessions in a group cost £17.50. Payment is monthly in advance, preferably by bank transfer.

Personal Description:
I am a semi-retired teacher and I have recently moved to the Camberley area to be closer to my children and their ever expanding families. I am very patient and approachable and have always gained great satisfaction in helping children to achieve their full potential.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching career started with empathy for the Montessori approach to educating the young child. My experience continued into primary and secondary years education, where I specialized in teaching Maths and English. After having one of my own children diagnosed with dyslexia, I became a dyslexic tutor and started a specialist unit in a secondary school in Eastbourne. I also teach Phonics and thoroughly enjoy helping children make sense of our complex language. For the past 12 years I have been teaching English as a foreign language to both children and adults.

Tutoring Approach:

I have been tutoring for over 20 years and have had excellent results with all ages. I devise individual programmes best suited to encourage maximum progress, whilst making the whole learning experience fun. I am very patient and I make sure that my students feel relaxed and able to learn at their own pace.

Personal Description:
I just finished my A-levels this year and I am applying for medicine this year. I had straight A's and A*'s in my GCSE exams and I achieved AAABB for my A-levels. I am a very enthusiastic, friendly and easily approachable person who gets along with new people very easily.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for about 2 years now. I have taught Primary, Secondary and A-level students in these two years. I have also been teaching in different tuition centres where I have taught kids in small groups as well as One to One. I have also prepared primary school kids for 11+ Exams and SATs exams. I have enabled some of my students to excel so much that their school is making them do their GCSE Maths exam in year 9 instead of year 11.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to provide a solid grounding in the subject while paying close attention to the needs of the individual.
An initial meeting establishes the student's needs and the direction tuition should take, usually with a parent present. Then we begin work on a programme of study which focuses on filling gaps in knowledge and addressing any areas of weakness.I set regular homework and writing assignments - the quantity varying with how much time the student has - and give feedback the following session. I try to implement all of the above in a very friendly, positive and disciplined way making sure the child exceeds his potential.

Personal Description:
Hi, I'm Tara. I recently graduated from The University of Sheffield, receiving First Class Honours in French and Hispanic Studies, with a Distinction in Spoken Spanish. I have over two years` experience in one-to-one tutoring of students between GCSE and degree level, and understand the importance of adapting materials to the needs of individual learners.

Teaching Experience:

I have been learning French for 12 years, and Spanish for over 9 years, and would be delighted to apply my extensive knowledge of both these languages. I am able to explain grammatical and more technical points to students, and can also provide the opportunity for speaking practice outside of the classroom environment, which I understand can be very daunting! In the third year of my degree, I spent 6 months working in Paris, France and 4 months in Nicaragua. I am happy to share my experience of living abroad, as well as respond to any concerns about spending time in French- and Spanish-speaking countries

Whilst at college, I was responsible for tutoring students in GCSE English and Maths. This was a role I pursued during my time at University where I was an English learning mentor. I am able to explain technical points in Maths, as well as grammatical points in English, and resolve any issues regarding textual analysis and literary context.

Tutoring Approach:

I think it's really important to produce learning materials that are tailored to tutees' individual needs. I prefer to adopt a hands on approach, with pen and paper, and encourage my students to take note of what they're learning (whether on paper or using other methods). I am conscientious of the importance of constantly engaging with my tutees, and allowing for consistent two-way communication.

I also value the importance of feedback, and after every session ask my tutees whether there are any elements they would like me to change, remove or add in the following session. I consider myself very flexible in my approach, and am also aware that every learner is different. I make every effort to be as accommodating as possible.

Personal Description:
I am a final year student at Queen Mary, University of London studying for a BSc in Natural Sciences. It is my intention to go on to become a secondary science teacher next year.

Teaching Experience:

I have spent 4 months working part time in a secondary school, teaching all ages and ability levels Science. I have a strong grasp of the National Curriculum because of this. In my time there I worked very closely with the year 11 classes (GCSE year), making sure they fully understood some of the more complex information.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach will depend entirely upon your needs. Once a firm knowledge base has been established, I like to focus on practice exam questions. I think these are incredibly important as it helps you get used to putting down all that information on paper. I can also teach you good exam technique to make sure you excel.

Personal Description:
Graduate of maths and computer science from the university of Manchester. Recently moved to Leeds to begin career of risk analyst.

Teaching Experience:

Tutored for the Tutor Trust charity based in Manchester for three years while studying and in between work. I worked in a variety of schools as a trainee teacher before a career change.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to tailor each tuition to the individual tutee, encouraging a sense of enjoyment and achievement especially in younger children. This includes playing games and puzzles activities, I also use past papers work sheets, text books etc. I do not usually set homework unless the tutee wants some but am more than happy to look at extra work done. Would prefer for tuition to take place in Leeds library or similar.
