Personal Description:
I'm Matthew and I've been helping my students succeed at school and university for over twenty years.

I teach all the modules for A level Maths and Further Maths, A level Statistics, and some A level Physics. (I also work with undergraduates on courses with mathematical content, such as Economics and Business Studies.)

My focus is on achieving high grades through understanding the material. (70% of my students achieved an A or an A* in the 2013 exams.) I tailor my approach depending on individual needs and interests and I believe in making the mathematics as simple and enjoyable as possible. I am enthusiastic, friendly and approachable. I really want my students to succeed and I'm very happy to be contacted outside of their lesson time.

It is not enough simply to do well at A level, of course: students need to be given the tools to succeed at university. To that end I take a very full interest in their education generally. As one student recently put it, I am "so much more than just a maths tutor". For example I give guidance and support with university entrance, including the UCAS personal statement, applying to Oxford and Cambridge, and interview preparation.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for over twenty years, at top-ranking schools including Charterhouse in Surrey and Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, USA. I've run dotmaths for eight years, successfullly helping well over 200 students achieve higher grades in their exams and gain entry to their preferred university.

I have taught almost every module in Mathematics and Further Mathematics for each of the four English A-level specifications (Edexcel, AQA, OCR and MEI) as well as the International Baccalaureate, the Pre-U and the US Advanced Placement Calculus and Statistics courses.

I have prepared candidates for the AEA (Advanced Extension Award), the Oxford Entrance Test and STEP (Sixth Term Exam Paper for entry in Mathematics to Cambridge and other top universities).

Tutoring Approach:

I'm passionate about mathematics and I love teaching it. While I understand that students and their parents are usually looking for a tutor to improve their grades (and my students do get high grades and get into top universities) I also believe it's important to concentrate on understanding as well as learning. Exam success is greatly helped by understanding where the mathematics comes from and how it is used. My style is to make the subject as simple and as enjoyable as possible. My approach produces outstanding results: one of my students came to me in March of his A2 year with E's and U's in his mathematics modules. He resat his whole A level in June and was awarded an A* and got into his first choice university, Manchester, to read mathematics.

Personal Description:
A postgraduate student at Cass Business School, studying Actuarial Science. Just graduated from University of Manchester with Mathematics with Finance.
As a native speaker of Mandarin and Cantonese, I grew up in Hong Kong and had been studied in Malaysia for 2 years and Hong Kong for the rest. In addition, I have 2 younger sisters as a eldest brother and therefore I do well in tutoring. In my past Foundation year, I gained A* in Pure Mathematics, and A* in Business Mathematics and A in Computer. I am convinced that my academic achievement makes me a good fit in tutoring Mathematics for GCSE/A-Level students.

Teaching Experience:

In past, in Hong Kong and Malaysia, I tutored friends and anyone who were around me in Mathematics, which gave me loads of chance to enhance my teaching approaches.
I taught in Manchester last 2 years as well.

Tutoring Approach:

I would be more than happy to go trough past exam papers and exercises as for Maths with students.
Surely, to prepare notes and advice certain study skills for the students in Mathematics. I reckon that tutoring in a friendly manner would enhance learning process instead of forcing the student to do as said. You are more then welcome to have a briefing before the first tuition in order to make sure we have the same goal.

The purpose of hiring a tutor is to understand concepts which a student neither can understand in a class nor himself/herself. Only tutoring gives a student one to one attention of the teacher and thus better understanding.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly and patient person who loves teaching. I have a background in music and theatre, having a degree and extensive professional experience in both, and have worked at venues including Shakespeare's Globe and The Sage, Gateshead.

As a supply teaching assistant in primary schools I would be a competent tutor for younger children, giving additional help with reading/writing/maths and other subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a supply teaching assistant for over a year and a half and have often visited up to three different schools a week. This means I am very experienced in meeting and working with new children. In schools I do anything from reading The Gruffalo to teaching maths and am sometimes put in sole charge of classrooms. I regularly work one to one with children with learning difficulties. In addition to this, I have led multiple primary school drama workshops on everything from little red riding-hood to The Odyssey.

Along side this, I tutored a 5 year old boy for about a year and then started tutoring his younger brother in basic numeracy and literacy. I am also tutoring a year 5 girl in maths and have tutored a 7 year old boy in drama. References from parents would be available.

Having read music to degree level (2.1 from Durham University) I am in a position to tutor students in music theory and analysis at all levels and can teach very basic piano.

Additionally, my career and training as a theatre director allows me to tutor in drama at all levels, from building confidence with Lamda exams to preparing for drama school. As a director i audition on a regular basis so can coach audition technique for drama schools from the angle of the panel. Being widely read i can also advise on audition speeches.

I offer lessons in acting, covering different skills and methods according to the needs of each individual.

Tutoring Approach:

Often working one to one with students in primary schools, I am able to tutor children who need a little extra help in understanding their subjects. I am always very patient, enthusiastic and positive as I find children respond best to this, it helps the child to trust me and then together we can made strides with learning, be it reading, maths, or anything else in the curriculum.

Whether you need help with Bach Chorales, grade V theory or an essay on Beethoven I can help with every level of music. Having achieved a high level in all these areas I can coach university and school level, or adults looking to progress their musical skills.

As a director i audition on a regular basis so can coach audition technique for drama schools from the angle of the panel. Being widely read i can also advise on audition speeches. I also offer lessons in acting, covering different skills and methods according to the needs of each individual.

My approach to tutoring is simple; I believe results come from encouragement and patience. I think that everyone responds far better to a smile and constructive help than from anything else. I want my tutees to grow in confidence as well as in ability and feel i am the tutor to help.

Personal Description:
I am currently a fifth year medical student at Imperial College London. I am friendly and approachable, and work well with people. I enjoy working with younger students, and have experience in tutoring other students. With my current qualifications, I am well experienced to tutor a range of GSCE, AS, and A-levels, and will help students through their studies.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience in tutoring primary up to GCSE level.

Tutoring Approach:

When tutoring, I ask students which areas they feel they are particularly weak in, and focus on these until they gain the necessary ability and confidence. In addition to this, I also look through the student`s syllabus to ensure that all areas are covered and the student is well prepared.

I use a wide range of methods including practice questions and past exam questions. I like to use timetables and goals to ensure targets are met, and so that students can monitor and be motivated by their progress. I am happy to set tasks for students for them to complete out of tutoring hours, which can help to both consolidate topics learnt as well as highlight areas of weakness.

Not everyone learns in the same way and I readily adapt my methods to the needs of the students. Please feel free to get in touch should you have any questions.

Personal Description:
I am a Graduate in Engineering with excellent academic background. Recently I have completed masters in Structural Engineering with distinction. I have sound communication skills and have ability to deliver my concepts at any level.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Rate analysis and Structural Engineering to B-tech students. Currently I am teaching Maths, Physics and Chemistry to the G.C.S.E Students.

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching is the mother of all professions and it is one of the most respectable profession. To have a complete conceptual knowledge about something and to have an ability to deliver that knowledge both are totally different things. Most people have outstanding knowledge but they are unable to deliver that knowledge effectively. So my approach to tutoring is to deliver my concepts effectively and to teach at all levels.

Personal Description:
Currently I`m studying medicine at King`s College London.I finished my A-levels two years ago and I achieved 5 A stars including maths with an overall score of 581/600.I have privately tutored 3 students and they all achieved A stars in their GCSE and A-level maths, physics and chemistry.

Teaching Experience:

More than 300 hours of teaching experience
Area of expertise : GCSE and A-level

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching approach is made up of four elements
1) Test-orientated method
I test my students repeatedly at every stage. This method causes the student to try and keep his focus during every single chapter. I do this in 4 stages
One: Testing student's progress at the beginning of each lesson based on previous sessions
Two: Ending every lesson with a short quiz
Three: An exam-style test at the end of every chapter (usually every 2-4 weeks depending on the length of that chapter and student's progress)
Four: Two mock exams during a period of one month before the actual exam
2) Holistic approach to teaching
One of the most important aspects of teaching that most tutors neglect is the significance of an academic notion called ''holistic based tuition ''.Every single interaction that occurs between the student and his tutor during the 1-2 hour weekly tuition period only constitutes a very small proportion of the whole spectrum of the student's learning process. This means that if the student is not guided by his tutor on a holistic basis, the actual tuition hours will prove insignificant towards student's academic success .Tuition is not just about how fast a student learns a mathematical concept but more importantly it is about what the student does in order to internalise that understanding ? What is the student's plan to not forget those concepts in a few weeks time? What is the student's revision plan? Are there any external factors that are interfering with the student's learning process? These are all questions that if solved properly, will boost a student's academic success and if not will show up later during the exam period in which little can be done about it. I am fully familiar with this method and will use it in my tuition
3) Giving the student a space for reflection and reinforcement of understanding
One of the most fundamental mistakes that personal tutors make is that whenever they think their student did not understand a concept it is their time to shine, intervene and bombard the student with more information which will usually cause even more confusion. This teaching method only makes learning more exhausting for students. Creating a space for a student to reinforce his understandings is a crucial part of the learning process. An active attempt from a student to try and learn or reinforce an idea himself without a tutor's intervention is much more satisfying than getting bombarded by loads of new ideas from their tutor. I am fully aware of the advantages of this method and will use it in my tuition.
4) I myself have been a student in the current educational system
Most of today's personal tutors finished their education in a time when the former educational system was radically different from today's system. I finished my A-levels two years ago and ever since I am updating myself with the latest changes introduced by the exam boards. I gained my academic success from the current system and fortunately found my way through the twist and turns of it. I am very familiar with what it takes to become successful in the current educational system. This is not something you will get from the majority of personal tutors with much experience and knowledge in their respective fields but lacking the necessary understanding of what it takes to achieve academic success in the modern educational system.

Personal Description:
I am a Malaysian student currently studying BSc Mathematics with Statistics at Imperial College London. I did Cambridge A-levels with results: Mathematics A*, Further Mathematics A*, Physics A*, Economics A, Thinking Skills A and understand every topics very well. I did my Cambridge O-levels in Singapore a few in 2009 with 10 A's including Math, Add-Math, Physics, Chemistry, Chinese, Higher Chinese, English, Art, Geography and Social Studies.

My first language is English, I am also extremely fluent in written and spoken Mandarin, Malay, Hokkien and understand basic Cantonese, French.

My understanding of mathematics is fuelled by self-interest since young;started taking part in Mathematical Olympiads at the age of 9, I constantly represented my school and country for mathematics competitions. I was offered many scholarships by the Singaporean government, private institutions and private firms to study due to my achievements. I won Silver, Bronze medals for various Mathematical Olympiads; Gold Medals for Canadian Euclid Math competition; 7 High Distinctions from Australian Math Competitions, New South Wales Math Competition etc.

I am very confident that I can help tutees meet their goals.

Teaching Experience:

4 years experience in teaching Mathematics, Further Mathematics for Cambridge A-levels.
4-5 years experience in teaching Mathematics, Additional Mathematics and Physics for O-levels.
2 months experience in teaching kids aged 7-12 in a private mental arithmetic centre.

Tutoring Approach:

I always believe students tend to lose focus in class or forget what was taught because:
1) Peers.
2) Lecturers teaching too quickly, assuming everyone has similar absorption capacity, or that everyone has their experience.
3) They know 'how to do it' but they don't understand the concept behind it.

Hence, I would prefer classes to be carried out in small groups, or ideally, one to one. Also, I will teach students from a viewpoint of a student rather than that of an expert, unless students show great potential or interest, I will then introduce challenging questions and concepts. I will explain every formulae that is in syllabus briefly so that students first understand how does the formulae work, which will help them a lot in remembering and when to apply them (from past experience).

A small test will be carried out to judge students' level at the first lesson, I will then have a small chat with them to understand which parts they're weak in, what kind of problems they usually face, what their requirements or aims are to ensure we get on track towards the correct direction

Hi, my name is Yasmin and I have just graduated from a BSc Hons Biology degree at the University of Nottingham with a 2.1. I consider myself to be a friendly, patient and understanding person, who will rarely give up on a challenge.

Teaching Experience:

I have done peer to peer teaching in my Secondary school where I would help other students at lunchtime or after school.
I have gained further experience in the past 2 years, since joining other tutoring agencies, by teaching Maths, Biology and Geography A levels and GCSE's, to various students on all different levels.

Tutoring Approach:

Obviously each person learns differently, so I would always account for that and tutor in a way that works best for that particular person. Past papers are a great way to prepare for exams so I will always go through model exam questions.

Personal Description:
Paul MEd, MSc, PGCE, BA, BSc, HNC IfL (fellow) Clear "extended" DBS (CRB) check - 24 July 2013

My PGCE at York University was for secondary school mathematics but I negotiated with my training-provider that I be allowed to gain experience teaching ICT too. As regards teaching practice the course was arranged so that in the first term, from half term onwards, I taught at All Saints School York for three days a week. During the second term, which was our main teaching practice, I went to St John's School, Harrogate. Here I gained experience teaching Mathematics at all levels including A-Level. I also taught ICT including Spreadsheets, Databases, Word-processing, programming with logo. I remember Easter 2000 was very late and all the teachers at St. John's were exhausted by the end of that very long Easter term. For the third term I returned to the same school as in the first term. Here I taught foundation tier GCSE students, more ICT (database and spreadsheets and mathematics to science students). In July 2000 I received my PGCE certificate. I have extensive experience of teaching in schools and FE colleges and I am a member (fellow) of the professional body:- IfL (Institute for Learning).
I also have a Masters degree in Software development, Masters in Education, BA in Mathematics, BSc in Science, HNC Electronics, etc.

Teaching Experience:

Subjects I teach / have taught:
Systems Analysis; Problem Solving (using mainly mathematical tools to solve computing problems); C++ programming; Java programming; Visual Basic programming; Database design and Implementation; Game design and Implementation; Digital Graphics; HNC Computing Systems Analysis and Programming; HNC/D "Business Decision Taking"; BTEC Level 2 IT Practitioners course units; BTEC Level 1 Introductory Cert for IT@work course units (and at various times I was Course tutor for each of these two BTEC courses); Functional Skills - Mathematics and ICT; GCSE - Mathematics and ICT.

I have a Clear "extended" DBS (CRB) check - 24 July 2013

Tutoring Approach:

My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence in tackling mathematical problems. After instilling the 'basics', I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect my student's understanding and technique.

Personal Description:
I am a 16 year old student, finishing my GCSE courses this summer. Currently, I am studying Art, French, Spanish, History and Additional Mathematics, as well as all compulsory subjects (Mathematics, English Language and Literature, Biology, Chemistry and Physics). I am a highly competent student, and am predicted all A* (with an exception of an A for add. Maths, as it is the highest one can get) and I would love to pass my knowledge onto younger children and those of my own age.
I know the requirements of the Edexcel iGCSE syllabuses for Maths, French, Spanish and Russian and I am willing to adapt that knowledge to the requirements of other exam boards.

I am an outgoing, energetic and bubbly person and I am passionate about languages. I enjoy reading and visiting museums in my spare time, as well as drawing and playing piano.

Teaching Experience:

Although I do not have any experience in private tutoring, I have been teaching young children how to horse ride for the past two years at a children's riding school (Aescwood Farm).
I also volunteer at Little St Helen's (Nursery, Reception and year 1 section at my own school) every week and I can easily say that this is a highly rewarding and enjoyable experience.
I also help my eleven year old sister with her French assignments, which include writing letters to her French penpal.

Tutoring Approach:

When tutoring a child, I will try to find out their strengths and weaknesses, so I will be able to push them to the best of their ability. However, I will adapt a friendly and fun approach to teaching and I will also try to find out the preferred manner of learning, which I find very important. For example, visual learners like me will find it easier to retain information if it is presented in a clear, colourful way., e.g. posters or colourful post-it notes.
I also think it's very important to reach an agreement with the tuttee, so that learning and teaching can be done in a friendly, pleasant manner. I want to make learning easy and fun for children (the wish is based solely on my experience), making them understand that learning is not always boring!

Maths:
I understand that some people find it difficult to understand basic concepts of Maths, which are a key to basic education in Mathematics. I will try to explain these concepts in a very accessible manner and then consolidate them via doing various exercises and practise papers.

Languages:
I think it is important to have a balance between written and oral work, as both aspects are equally important when learning any language. For primary/KS3 tuttees, I would suggest learning through completing worksheets and exercises after looking at a particular vocabulary or grammar section. Of course, this method can be adapted to the preferences of the tuttee.
At GCSE level, the knowledge of the syllabus is essential, so we will equip ourselves with mark schemes, syllabus requirements and examiner reports to gain a better understanding of what exactly is required in the exam. Then we will practice all the necessary exam skills (reading, listening, speaking and writing), along with learning vocabulary, A* expressions and grammar. (I am only able to offer GCSE level tutoring in French and Russian).
I believe that real knowledge of a language at a communicative/fluent level is extremely important, even when only preparing for an exam. I will put as much emphasis as possible on pronounciation and expression, to make the tuttee's language sound natural. I also recommend reading books, short stories or even comics in a required language, as this really helps expand the understanding of the language, its vocabulary and grammatic structures.
