Personal Description:
I enjoy maths and it gives me great pleasure to help students overcome their fears and achieve what they consider impossible. I am patient and have a good sense of humour which I consider essential to building good relationships with my students. I have a degree in maths and a PGCE. I have an up-to-date CRB check.

Here's what one of my current student's has to say about me:

I have been going to see Dawn on a weekly basis for the past year for support with my GCSE Maths. Since Dawn started helping me my GCSE grades have gone from a D in the first exam to a B in the second, just 4 marks away from an A. Her help speaks for itself.

My next exam is in June and I feel very well prepared for it. I feel the pressure of needing to pass my Maths GCSE exam has reduced considerably as I am now much more confident. Even my teachers have commented upon the progress I have made recently.

I would recommend Dawn to anyone who is currently studying and finding maths difficult and who wants to improve, pass their maths GCSE exam and go on to do A levels.
Thank you Dawn for your ongoing support, challenge and patience.

Kieran, Chippenham 2012 - 13

Teaching Experience:

I have been working as a successful and popular maths tutor for over 4 years (since Jan 2009). Previously, I taught in primary schools for about 6 years and more recently taught numeracy to adults in a college for almost 4 years.

Tutoring Approach:

My first step is to establish what the student wants/needs to achieve and to assess where they are starting from. I like to use a variety of methods and activities to keep a student's interest and to ensure real understanding. I am good at breaking topics down into manageable steps and explaining them clearly.

Not only do I teach the knowledge and skills required to master maths topics but I also teach students how to learn as efficiently as possible, how to make notes and plan revision to ensure they consolidate and retain all that they learn. I also share techniques for boosting mental clarity and self-confidence to help students be in the best possible state for their exams and tests.

I take a real interest in my students and work to find the best way to help them learn and remember the key maths skills required to achieve their desired grades and outcomes.

Please note that I do not travel and teach in your home, you must be able to come to me.

Also the prices shown are applicable for those that book and pay for 8 lessons or more in advance. If you want to pay weekly then I charge 30 for Secondary and Adult students.

Personal Description:
I am a professional, dedicated and enthusiastic tutor with over 20 years experience, extremely quick at identifying student problem areas and devising the most efficient solutions, sometimes with budget or time constraints. Where necessary I focus on exam technique as I find many capable and knowledgeable students gain confidence (and marks!) once these skills are taught.

I am well-liked by my tutees and my services are frequently recommended to siblings and friends.

Teaching Experience:

As well as many years continuous home-tutoring experience, I have taught in both state and private sectors since 1986; examples being Surrey College (Guildford), Horsell High School (Woking) and Farnborough College of Technology, and as recently as April 2013, the prestigious Seaford College in Petworth, W.Sussex.

I have a vast library of past examination papers in all my subjects at GCSE and GCE A level for Edexcel, AQA and OCR examining boards.

In addition I have some experience tutoring both common entrance and Baccalaureate Maths, Physics and Chemistry.

Tutoring Approach:

I appreciate that for most tutees private tuition represents a workload additional to both schoolwork and homework.

Therefore I aim to make tuition as interesting, interactive and productive as possible- whilst focusing on their objectives- usually a target examination grade. Experience has shown that students can expect learning progress with an experienced tutor such as myself to be 3-5 times faster than could be made in a typical school classroom, whilst simultaneously gaining a fuller understanding of the topics covered.

Personal Description:
I have tutored Maths, English and Special Needs now for nearly five years, building up a rapport with each individual and their family to ensure best results. My tutoring experience spans from children aged 4 years to adults aged 44 years, with varying degrees of motivation, interest and abilities.

Due to my high interest in supporting others, I chose a career path as a Speech and Language Therapist, and I qualified in this esteemed profession 3 years ago. On a daily basis I work with children from pre-school age right up to young adults, in a range of settings from special needs schools and mainstream schools, to community clinics and home visits. I am highly passionate about helping all I support to work together to reach their potential.

I am a genuinely caring and generous person and I am more than capable of sharing my passion for Maths and English to anyone I work with, including those with additional needs.

Teaching Experience:

Through my job as a Speech and Language Therapist I work with children of all cognitive abilities on a one-to-one level to improve their communication and language skills. The work I do coincides with the National Curriculum and the Early Years Foundation Stage, and I work with parents and teachers to set individualised targets, which is similar to the tutoring world.

Prior to commencing my current job I worked as a special needs assistant at a primary school. On a daily basis I was required to give additional support on a one-to-one basis to children who struggled in the (often) large classroom, by working through the literacy or numeracy curriculum at their own pace. I was also relied upon to support in assigned classrooms through supervising children while working on a task or taking groups of children for reading. Working in a school ensured that I keep current my knowledge of Educational and National Curriculum issues.

From June-August 2011, I travelled to Pennsylvania, USA, to work as a Speech and Language Therapist at a summer camp for children with special needs (age range 7-20). I was recommended for this job due to my extensive experience and my friendly positive nature. The experience of living and working with children and teens with individual needs and accompanying challenging behaviours highlighted the importance of taking a flexible holistic approach when assessing skills, implementing support and evaluating improvements.

In June 2009, I participated in the Student Associate Scheme organised by the University of Manchester. This involved intensive teacher training and then carrying out a block placement of three weeks within two schools teaching and assisting in core subjects e.g. Mathematics and English. I worked with two children in particular who struggled and I helped improve their numeracy and literacy skills by adapting their learning technique to suit their individual needs.

Tutoring Approach:

For nearly five years I have tutored Maths, English and Special Needs in three areas of the UK, including two major cities. I have assisted students of varying ages, abilities and additional needs including Dyslexia, Autism and Specific Language Impairment - from early years pupils to mature students. I find that tutees benefit from the one-to-one focus they are given, and the individualised plans we work from enforces enhancement of their current knowledge in their chosen subject areas.

I always ensure a person-centred approach is achieved when tutoring. Each tutee learns through different techniques and at different speeds so I develop my tutoring level and scope to suit the individuals needs. I tutored three children for 2013's 'Transfer Test' (Northern Ireland's Grammar School intake assessment) and the results confirmed that this approach is effective, as all sitting the demanding test passed with flying colours, with two getting into Northern Ireland's top Grammar School.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate of Philosophy from UCL, and am going to begin a teacher training course (PGCE) in September 2013.

I studied the International Baccalaureate in my final two years at school, and so understand the difficulties of balancing all your subjects- particularly when it comes to tackling the tricky bits.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for 3 years now, and have 6 pupils ranging from 7-16 years old. I have also worked as a teaching assistant in both mainstream settings and a Pupil Referral Unit.

I hold up to date Enhance DRB and DBS checks.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that good teaching is integral to students' learning. Having been a student recently, I am all too familiar with being in the situation where a teacher may be intelligent and passionate about their subject, but are not able to communicate and engage with students. I believe that engaging with the student and their method of learning is key to the student understanding the work.

In tutoring and I use constant encouragement and affirmation to support young people in their learning. I find this is particularly important when young learners have had difficult prior experiences of school. I use encouragement and constant reassurance to facilitate a greater understanding of each topic. In addition I find that it is crucial, especially with younger children to teach interactively and to make sure that they are actively participating in each task.

I strongly believe that, were possible, teaching should be about making things as simple as possible- and I have found that this is particularly important with children and young people who may find class work challenging. I have been able to do this through using drawings, diagrams and real life examples to engage young learners' interests. For example, I always teach fractions by referring back to the concept of cutting up a cake, and linking this to the function of the numerator and denominator.

Personal Description:
I graduated as a mature student with The Open University and hold a BSc (Hons) in Life Sciences in 2008, so I have an understanding of the pressures of modern learning requirements.

I am easy-going and have an interest in teaching basic skills and maths to primary ages as well as science up to GCSE level.

I am a young 60 with a 6 year old daughter who benefits from my teaching and encouragement. It is through her that I have gained a good understanding of primary years education.

I continue to further my own education through the Open University and I am presently seeking a PhD opportunity.

Teaching Experience:

I assist and support my own daughter's learning as well as gaining further experience by assisting in the classroom at a local primary school. I have extensive experience in industry using organisational and team management skills.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim is to direct the learning process in an interesting way. For primary levels, it is important to maintain interest though the use of a wide range of learning resources and also to make learning fun.

I believe in building confidence by encouragement. I structure lessons to suit individual needs, setting achievable targets and carefully directing the route to reach whatever level or qualification that is required.

I always begin with an assessment of the pupil's needs. I maintain regular discussion with parents and pupil on the direction and needs of the learning route.

The key factors in my approach to teaching are positive encouragement and a kind understanding of any difficulties.

Personal Description:
I live in Crawley, West Sussex and have worked in social care since completing my BA(hons) in 2000. I have worked with many different client groups of all ages, spending the last few years in a training role. I am a foster carer to an older teenager and I am just about to start working as a lecturer at a local college.

I am a positive, approachable person who will work hard to help you (and your child) to succeed.

I have just re-read my profile and feel that it makes me sound a little stuffy! I think it contains all of the information a parent/ potential student needs to know but I just want to add that I have a great sense of humour, I love being around children/ people who want to learn, am reliable and a great time keeper.

* I currently have some additional vacancies on a Saturday and weekday evenings*

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a learning support assistant in adult education classes and have completed the introductory to teaching qualification (PTTLS) and the PGCE. I am working in a FE college in Surrey, teaching across levels 1 - 3. I have recently tutored children in literacy and numeracy (KS1 & KS2). I have delivered training to adults with mental health difficulties, adults and children with learning disabilities, trainee teachers, college students and staff who work in social care. I have done this in group settings and on a 1:1 basis. I have also spent time working with the foster children who have been placed with me to improve their academic achievements, in particular, with their reading and writing skills.

I have been graded as 'outstanding' in a recent teaching observation - Dec 2013 and am happy to provide evidence of this

Tutoring Approach:

Learning needs to be fun! I strive to make sessions enjoyable, memorable and interactive because I feel that this is the best way to learn. I like to use different learning methods in my approach and will regularly carry out assessment to monitor progress. Regular progress reports on will be available to you because it is important that you know how well you (or your child) are doing and any areas that need to be focused upon.

Sessions will be individually planned and delivered so best to meet your aims and aspirations. Depending on age and ability, I think it is important that students take responsibility for their own learning and I like to set independent work to be completed at home.

When working with children, I prefer to do this in their own home.

I am currently working in the RH1 area and am happy to provide travel in this and surrounding areas during the week. I am also happy to travel further afield for a booking of 3 hours or more. Please contact me should you require any further information

Personal Description:
I have graduated with a first class degree in engineering from Oxford University. Throughout the course, I undertook a wide range of topics from maths and electronics to biomedical and aero-thermal engineering. Subsequently, I joined 'Entrepreneur First' - a government-backed programme to help exceptional graduates start businesses. I co-founded 'SpeakSet' - a business to help combat loneliness and isolation in old age. My strong grounding in maths and the sciences not only drives me to tutoring part time but genuinely excites me!
I am passionate about music and have played guitar, bass and sung in 4 bands at university. I enjoy recording, mixing and mastering and have been doing so for eight years. I have captained my college squash team and enjoy cricket. I have a keen interest in cars and have spent a summer working in 'McLaren Automotive' as a vehicle dynamics engineer.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring through UK Tutors since summer 2012. I have plenty of experience in and regularly teach GCSE and A-Level Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Additionally, I have experience tutoring peers at university and relatives in Maths/Physics/Chemistry/Biology.

Tutoring Approach:

The best way to grasp a topic or concept is to break it down into its smallest components and gain a real understanding of the basics. In this way, it becomes easier to build up to the more complicated topics. This solid foundation doesn't just help with the problems at hand but helps to prepare for the long term too.
Exam technique is also crucial and so, we will spend time concentrating on how to approach papers.
I am always well prepared for lessons and feel that I make difficult topics stimulating and interesting.

I previously studied the International Baccalaureate instead of A Levels and whilst doing this tutored a 16 year old girl in GCSE French - she went from a C to an A with just simple tutoring of the basics. My final grades for my first year included French grammar grade being a 72 (1st) and all other modules receiving above 62, with a 70 in International History and International Relations.
Last year (April 2013), I spent two weeks in Paris for work experience with a French company, improving my French by being surrounded by solely French speakers! I returned to Paris for 2 months over the summer to work for another French company, living and working in the French language which has greatly improved my understanding of reading and listening to French and I've become much more accustomed to speaking in French primarily too.
I believe that I have a friendly approach to tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

As previously mentioned, I tutored a 16 year old girl in GCSE French. Over the 9 month period, we improved on her basic grammar skills and reading and listening skills also. As well as this, I have helped (not necessarily tutored, but essentially, tutored) several friends at different subjects that we both studied, particularly GCSE History and IB Biology Standard. I have a brother who sat his GCSEs in June 2013 and as most of our subjects were the same, I tutored him and tested him often in the subjects that I took at IB. From this site, which I joined in December 2012, I gained one student very quickly and during our 4 months tutoring sessions, she improved her basic understanding tremendously, progressing from a D to a B for her oral exam in April.

Tutoring Approach:

In terms of my approach to tutoring, I like to assess what the tutee finds difficult and try and work in a different way to how they are accustomed to to see if it helps at all. I draw a lot from my experiences as a student as I have found the ways in which I have been taught very easy to understand. I would like to say that my approach is a lot more suited to children because, like them, I am a student too and I understand what they are coping with and how their mind works. Listening is of key importance and I make sure that I listen to what my tutee is trying to say.

PLEASE NOTE: Although I tutor GCSE History, I would like to specify that it would just be for the Germany option.

Personal Description:
With BEng in Electronics, I'm am a confident mathematics tutor, able to teach students at primary to A-level. Studied in Iran, I've always been very good in mathematics and have had experience helping other math students. I'm 51, married and with two children, studying in high school and one in sixth-form.

Teaching Experience:

During my education at university, I was teaching maths at high school level, as well as taking over problem solving classes at University as a Co-teacher. In UK I have tutored A-level and GCSE student in maths, therefore I'm familiar with Edexcel maths for both GCSE and A-level.

Tutoring Approach:

All students are different in their own ways, Hence I usually evaluate students and based on that evaluation I will design a tutoring plan that suit that student and help them achieve their goals. Once I have taught a student a topic, I will provide many exercises to make sure that topic is mastered by the student. Because it is important for me that the tutee is happy with my work and satisfied, I do NOT charge for the first session. For the first session, I will teach a student as I would if it was paid, 1) to give the student a chance to evaluate the session 2) to give the parents an idea of how the session goes and its result before paying!

Personal Description:
Unlike many, who kind of drift into teaching, because they couldn`t think of a job they wanted to do, I made a change of career after 20 very successful years in the computing industry. I was doing very well developing computer software, but I wanted to do something which was a little more sociable than staring at a computer screen all day, and I felt that helping young people learn would be a worthwhile use of my time. So, teaching maths seemed like a good idea, especially as I`ve always enjoyed the subject. This is my main subject, though I also teach physics and chemistry.

As well as teaching I have published two books, available in hard-copy and kindle versions.

Teaching Experience:

My experience is a bit different from most UK teachers. Sure, I`m UK qualified and have taught in England, but I`ve also taught in New Zealand, Germany and Italy. For me (and for you) this is a huge plus, because the standard of teaching is better abroad. People mistakenly think that getting a teacher with years of UK experience is the best strategy. Nothing could be further from the truth! You will probably get someone with good behavioural management and admin skills, but it will be at the expense of their subject skills. I`ve taught across the entire 11 to 18 age range and at all abilities from struggling 11 year old students to top set 18 year old students. I`ve taught in all-boys schools, all-girls schools, mixed schools, FE and sixth form colleges. This has been at schools that get good results!

As well as A-Level, I`ve taught IB Diploma: at both Standard and Higher Levels (also Mathematical Studies). This has been mainly maths, but also some physics and chemistry. I`ve given intensive revision courses in Standard Level Mathematics, and Higher Level Mathematics, which were very well received. Once again, I would have to say that IB Diploma is more demanding than A-level - on both the student and the teacher.

So, whether you need help with Core, Further Maths, Mechanics, Statistics, or Decision Maths, I`ve got the recent experience teaching all of these. In addition to maths, I have recently tutored A-level physics and chemistry too. This has been across several exam boards: Edexcel, AQA and OCR.

For maths students,I can help you get the best out of your graphics calculator (all senior maths students should have one), which, despite what your school might tell you, is allowed and will give you an advantage in your exams. On this point, you might like to note that I have published a book about using the TI-Nspire, for those taking GCSE or IGCSE. And, I expect I will publish another one, for A-level and I.B. Diploma students, before too long.

Among the schools whose students I have recently tutored are: Dame Alice Owen`s School, Enfield County School, Enfield Grammar School, Highlands School, Princess Helena College, Southgate School, The Latymer School, and Woodhouse College.

Tutoring Approach:

I`m typically very informal and relaxed, which most students seem to appreciate.

When you come to me, you get to choose what you want help with. Unlike far too many tutors I won`t try to tell you what the lesson should be about, unless this is something you want me to do. In fact, some of my students have been known to ask for (and receive) help in maths, physics and chemistry, all in one session.

Personal Description:
I am an Undergraduate studying Medicine at Imperial College London.

I am extremely passionate in the Sciences and Mathematics (ever since I was a child, as weird as that sounds.) and I've always enjoyed helping my peers and juniors improve and excel in these subjects.

I have 7 As on my A Level Diploma. Throughout Junior College, my passion made studying interesting and I managed to obtain Straight As in Bio, Chem and Maths for a total of 6 in-school exams, and was consistently in the top 5% for each subject.
Also, I got Distinction for my extra credit- H3 Advanced Organic Chemistry.

I'm a Chinese from Singapore, but I speak English fluently since English is my first language and will have no trouble holding classes in English!
Also, I have a very cheerful, quirky disposition and I try my best to be friendly with everyone that I meet!

Teaching Experience:

I have almost 3 years of teaching experience with A Level Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics in my home country, Singapore.
Of formal private one-on-one tutoring, I tutored a Junior College 1 student in H2 Chemistry and Mathematics for 1 year.
I've also been involved in tutoring my peers and juniors in A Level Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology throughout my Junior College years.

Tutoring Approach:

Most importantly, I try to identify the weak points my students have, and try to focus most of my efforts to target their weaker areas. I want to ensure that my students are confident in all areas of the subject and that they get sufficient practice in all topics.
Also, I consistently watch out for any fundamental errors in understanding which may be impeding my student's progress and interest in the subject.

During the lesson, I ensure that I have sufficient material to give my students more practice and also, thoroughly explain or teach any concepts that my student may not have fully understood in school.
Most of all, I try my best to make tuition lessons fun and interesting so that my students will find studying enriching, rather than as a chore.

I graduating from the College of St Mark and St John in 2003 with a 2: 1 Honours Degree, my Post Graduate Certificate in Education was awarded at Marjon in 2004.

I have many years teaching and tutoring experience so have considerable empathy for students (and parents) involved in the GCSE process.

Teaching Experience:

"I have 8 years classroom experience and 2 years Tutoring experience guiding GCSE students successfully through their Maths GCSE exams

Tutoring Approach:

I currently tutor students studying the Foundation level of GCSE Maths. If you find Maths a bit of a challenge and are hoping to achieve that important Grade C at GCSE, my sessions are tailored especially for you. Lessons are delivered in a relaxed atmosphere where students are supported patiently with positive encouragement.

A lack of confidence in Mathematics can be a barrier to learning in itself. My methods are specifically designed to boost self-confidence, accelerate learning and ensure higher attainment. With the growing competition for A Level and university places, a GCSE pass in Mathematics is essential for a young person's future."

If Maths is not your strong point but you really want the best chance of success in the GCSE exams, call now for your initial assessment.

Personal Description:
I am a third year graduate from the University of Leeds. I will be living in Mersea Island for a period of time and looking to tutor children to help them gain confidence and skills from my knowledge of education.
I am very creative and forward thinking. I like to make things fun and make the subject enjoyable.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught non academic skills such as sailing and singing. I have also taught school subjects: drama, arts and crafts, and cooking to children from the ages of five to sixteen. Voluntary work has taken place in the UK at Rainbows, a drama club. Last summer I worked at a children's summer camp in the USA, where I taught sailing and lived with fourteen year old girls for 2 months.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the main aspect a child will gain from personal tutoring is confidence. One to one help also helps finding areas that the student is struggling with the most. They will learn to study in a more relaxed environment than a classroom, making homework an easier task.

Personal Description:
I am very patient and love challenges. I am motivated and I made Team GB as a junior in rowing and am hoping to carry on into the Under 23 and Senior Teams. I would like to think that I am hopefully an interesting person as I have many interests such as sailing, tennis, playing the harp and reading. I am only 20 years old but I believe that it is a huge advantage as I have only recently been through the education system and am still in higher education so I can interact with younger students on a more personal level and know how to keep them interested and motivated especially as I have had very valuable and recent experience of this while tutoring a younger sibling. As I mention further down I also have a lot of experience coaching people of all ages in rowing which although it isn't French, means I have a transferable set of skills and experience.

Teaching Experience:

I am fluent in French as I was born there and lived and went to school in France till I was six. My Father is French and I speak with him in French and we go regularly back to France to visit family. I am not confident in written French as most of my written French is what I learnt at school in England, however my spoken French is native and I have a good cultural awareness of French customs. I do not have formal tutoring experience but I have tutored my sister a lot in various subjects and I also have a lot of experience coaching people of all ages and abilities at my rowing club. I may not have much experience but I am motivated and keen to gain some good experience as teaching and coaching others is something I have discovered I really enjoy.

Tutoring Approach:

I like figuring out how an individual learns and tailoring my technique to best suit any individual. I enjoy passing on my knowledge to others in the things I enjoy and hopefully inspiring them to also keep up a keen interest in those areas. As I have no formal qualifications I am more than happy to meet up beforehand for a chat so you can make a more informed decision as to whether I can offer you what you need.
