Personal Description:
I am a 32 year old tutor based in south east London. For the past twelve years I have been teaching pupils of all ages and abilities in many different capacities and have an excellent success rate with my pupils.

I also work with children with behavioural difficulties/learning disabilities and with adults of all ages and nationalities.

Should you wish to use me, you would encounter a tutor easy to relate to and learn from in an enjoyable and easy environment. I believe a student who is abler ease with their tutor is far more likely to progress no matter where they are starting from!

I hope very much to hear from you soon.

Teaching Experience:

St Bees School 1998-present: Various unpaid voluntary work. Drama work-shop leader on summer-camp. Directing, play-writing, and work-shopping school Junior & Senior plays
2002: Clementine School, Hong Kong EFL Teaching Assistant. Assisting head English language teacher
2002: Hong Kong Institute for young offenders. Spanish Teacher. Teaching basic Spanish to young non English speaking offenders prior to their exchange to Chile
2005-2006: Private Tuition (Ashtead, Surrey) Private tutor. Various pupils for Spanish, English Literature, Drama & English language
2006-Present: Southwark Council. Supply Teaching with 'Classroom' agency. Work with children from mainstream, secondary & primary PRUs and learning difficulty schools.
Private Tuition (Paddington) Private tutor
Government-funded scheme to increase literacy levels amongst primary school pupils
2006-Present: Private Tuition in in all subjects and age ranges offered throughout London.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe one to one private tuition requires a tutor who can adapt to the needs of the pupil.

I would wish to meet the pupil initially to establish how they may best be assisted and what the pupil's key areas of concern are.

In short, each mind, young or old, needs different approaches and I believe my strongest ability is an adaptability to meet the varying needs and requirements of every student.

My approach, in most cases would be to follow a curriculum, finding out where their difficulties lie within this curriculum and how it would be best to resolve them.

I tend to use past papers when it comes to exam based tuition as this is ultimately what they will be faced with come exam time! However, when I have a pupil for longer there is more scope for more imaginative teaching or simply assistance with difficult homework.

With each of my previous pupils I have needed and been able to assist them in a way that is individually appealing to them and I have never had a pupil who has not achieved their desired results.

Personal Description:
I graduated from Cambridge University with a BA in English Literature, and then from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, graduating with a BA in acting, where I was the recipient of the Noel Coward Scholarship from 2008-2011. In July 2011 I won the Michael Bryant Award at the National Theatre, for verse speaking and Shakespeare.

When I'm not acting or tutoring I can be found in the kitchen or walking in the countryside.

CURRENT SUMMER AVAILABILITY: 5th & 8th-12th, 22nd - 31st August.

Teaching Experience:

Currently tutoring students in: 7+, 10+ & 11+ preparation (all four subjects); lower secondary SEN homework and mentoring; Key Stage 1 and 2 English and Maths.

During my gap year I spent some time as a special needs classroom assistant, working closely with a child suffering with Asperger's Syndrome. This involved facilitating the social and academic change between primary and secondary education on a one-to-one basis.

Also at this time I ran Welsh language games sessions for primary children in non-first-language schools to improve and encourage their use of the language outside of the classroom environment.

Whilst at secondary school I taught reading skills to children who had low reading-ages.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is tailored to the individual's needs; firstly finding ways of fully explaining a concept, then cementing them with useful and memorable material to build students' confidence. My main objective would be to aid the student in understanding not only the specifics of the work but also the broader aspects of it, which I believe provides a truer grounding in - and enjoyment of - a subject. By making the work useful and enjoyable, and by finding alternative and effective approaches to study, I hope that my tuition will shed new light on subjects for students.

I particularly enjoy tutoring Maths GCSE, 11+ and 13+.

Previous Students' Comments:

'Before I met Alex, as a dyslexic, I was academically unconfident and dreaded having tutors who had never really helped me before. Alex tutored me from Year 8 to 11 and she completely changed my attitude to studying, helped me develop my organisational skills and gave me a huge amount of confidence in my abilities. As I approached GCSEs she tutored me particularly in Maths where I was struggling with a D grade. Without her expert tuition I doubt I would have been able to achieve my A* in Maths.

I think Alex is an amazing tutor because she has an extraordinary talent for making it a thoroughly enjoyable experience to the extent I would genuinely look forward to our lessons. Alex was far more than a tutor to me, helping me through such formative teenage years. I consider her a friend.'

- Tally (Now studying for her A Levels)

'Alex is a truly outstanding and gifted tutor as well as a fantastic person. I have very much enjoyed being her student for over six months, and have not only learnt a lot due to her expertise and impressive knowledge but also grew to love English Literature because of the inspirational nature of her tutoring. Previously, I used to constantly struggle with my assignments since English is not my first language, however, after a few weeks of sessions with Alex my grades and confidence significantly improved. She has an ability to keep the lessons varied and interesting; always well prepared for lessons - she was kind enough to provide me with extremely useful books and personal notes. Her incredible dedication and hard working nature also deserves mentioning as she was willing to help me even in the evenings when I was panicking about coursework and the approaching exams. With Alex's assistance and firm confidence in my ability I have achieved a high A in my A-level English Literature and even a merit award in Extended English. I would enthusiastically recommend Alex to anyone who wants to succeed in their exams and learn heaps of interesting information.

Personal Description:
Hi

I have just finished a PhD in maths at Newcastle University so it goes without saying I'm enthusiastic about both maths and physics. On top of this I have a wide variety of interests, and this allows me to find ways of explaining things that the people I'm tutoring can relate to.

Teaching Experience:

While studying at Newcastle I've taken many tutorials for students taking courses in Maths. For the past 6 years I've also worked in a tutoring drop-in centre where any student at Newcastle University can come to ask maths questions. I've always enjoyed this work as over the course of a day I can be asked how to apply maths to many problems from mechanical engineering to fine arts!

I have also done a lot of private tuition of A-levels for all of the major examining boards. I have often got this work from referral of satisfied customers.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed and friendly tutoring style.

I usually find students learn best by working through questions or examples, but I am also happy provide teaching of entire subjects from scratch. So if you're having trouble understand the material needed to pass an exam/assignment or wanting to learn about a subject from start to finish I will be able to help.

Personal Description:
I have finished my maths degree and have decided that tutoring is the path I'd like to be on. I love working with children/elder students to help them achieve the best that they can. I am very easy to get on with and am passionate about teaching.
I am a math tutor for primary, ks3, GCSE and A level maths.

Teaching Experience:

I have done work experience at a nursery school, I have done voluntary work at a youth club, I have had experience being a classroom assistant in a secondary school.
I have helped friends and family in passing their gcse and a level exams in maths.
I have tutored around 25 students ages ranging from 4 to 45 and have references if you would like their feedback.

Tutoring Approach:

I go through the maths topics one by one. I explain a topic thoroughly, then give the student example questions, talk them through it and this usually results in their confidence growing about the topic. I make sure the student understands everything before moving on. Lots of example questions help, maths is a subject that needs to be practiced, not read.
I make my own lesson plans so that I can personalise them for every student.

Concurrently, I have also worked as a private tutor teaching GCSE Maths, Chemistry and Physics as well as 11+ Maths preparation.

Tutoring Approach:

Once I understand exactly what a tutee hopes to achieve (e.g. A* Maths GCSE, or simply understanding algebra) I have three main priorities as a tutor:

i) to identify a students strengths and weaknesses through short tests

ii) to provide a course of study and assessment that will focus on the weaknesses and monitor progress

iii) to give the student belief in themselves and their abilities and to instill a love of learning!

Personal Description:
Enthusiastic about education, I have seven years experience in tutoring, training and teaching learners of all ages. I have a genuine passion for learning and believe that it is not the subject but the learning environment which is the biggest factor in development. I believe in a holistic approach to education, fostering the social and emotional development required to allow a young person to achieve their full potential.

Teaching Experience:

From the age of 20, I tutored Maths and English to children aged 5-14. I then went on to manage a tuition centre, leading and training a team of ten tutors in effective strategies to motivate, teach and inspire young people to reach their potential.

In 2010, my enthusiasm for learning lead me to begin projects with Blyth Valley Disabled Forum, supporting young people with learning disabilities in sports, arts and crafts and drama activities. I am particularly passionate about supporting people with special educational needs, and enjoy tailoring learning experiences to each learner. Around this time I also began volunteering with Young Enterprise, teaching business-focused lessons to students aged 7-16.

I taught English in South Korea for 7 months, and on return I began working as a Teaching Assistant at several schools for children with special educational needs. I then completed a PGCE in Primary Education, teaching student aged 5-11 in all aspects of the curriculum.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in an interactive approach to tutoring, focusing on the individual needs of each learner. I enjoy creating and sharing stimulating and vibrant resources that are useful and applicable to the student and their goals.

Personal Description:
I am currently a First year student of the University of Nottingham studying Finance, Accounting and Management.

I am a very enthusiastic teacher who loves to share knowledge with other people and also love learning myself.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored both Maths and English to students in Manchester Academy, in both cases students made excellent progress.

I have also tutored all 3 sciences, Maths and English to 2 children between 2013 and 2015 as well as helping one of the students with her 11+ entrance exams.

Last year I tutored another 2 children, teaching GCSE maths and science.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe 1 to 1 teaching is the best form of teaching you can provide as the child can ask as many questions without fear and also you can work on a more personal level, compared with teaching around 30 children. I like this because I can then tailor the teaching to the child so they can learn in a way that suits them, for example, if the child learns through visuals I may draw many diagrams so explain points.

Personal Description:
I am approachable, reliable and trustworthy, and have worked with children and young people in education, child care and the charity sector.

I hold a 2:1 BA in Criminology (Youth Justice) and am looking forward to beginning Primary Teacher Training (PGCE) in September. I am a native English speaker and have an enhanced DBS check.

I am currently a teaching assistant in a primary school year 4 class. I provide Maths and English interventions to small groups of children, as well as one to one support.

My experience as a child-minder to children aged four to six shaped my decision to pursue primary teaching as a career.

I have also volunteered as an Independent Visitor providing friendship and support figure to a young person with aspergers syndrome, in care of the local authority, a role I found extremely rewarding.

Teaching Experience:

Whilst at university I elected to complete a placement year volunteering as a Supported Housing Assistant at Centrepoint. My primary role was to manage, develop and deliver the AQA accredited 'Lifewise' workshops for the 44-bed service. I was delighted to win the award for being innovative, empowering, inspiring and professional during my time at Centrepoint.

Tutoring Approach:

A grasp of maths is essential to everyday life and therefore a high quality mathematics education provides a foundation for understanding the world. I believe anyone can achieve with the right teaching and environment. I aim to develop a love of learning and an appreciation, curiosity and confidence about the subject by building a dialogue with children, allowing them to take ownership of their learning, and providing engaging and stimulating lessons where mistakes can be made and solutions can be found together.

Personal Description:
Hi, my name is Hikari! Living in Japan during my undergraduate university years, and learning how to speak to my family in Japanese, has been very influential in my understanding of the struggle to learn a language when it is not your first. In addition, I have learnt how important and enjoyable it is to learn about other cultures and celebrate diversity. I have been lucky enough to travel to different countries and cities. Throughout my academic learning I have had a passion for literature, which has been further spurred on by a renewed love of children's literature, and its use in storytelling and shared guided reading. I also enjoy theatre, art galleries, and film, which has meant that I can utilise what I know in order to teach children about different forms of artistic and literary expression, which only deepens a love of learning, in and out of the classroom.

I am hard working, passionately motivated, caring, and able to work with others as part of a team, lead a team, manage conflict effectively, and I have a reflective personality that helps me constantly develop my teaching practice to ensure an engaging high quality learning environment.

I believe that my strengths lie in my ability to stimulate creative ideas through discussion and effective communication, to listen, and to learn quickly from my mistakes. I value honesty, effort, communication, and a passion for learning as key attributes to being an effective educator.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching and facilitating learning are a passion of mine. I'm a primary school teacher currently working, and have been supply cover teaching for a term across London, and have been a class teacher for two years in south east London, as well as tutoring in the evenings. I have found that my key achievements in teaching have been to build upon a teaching practice and class environment that is accessible to all children and that they gain a wholesome education, where they understand the reasoning and importance of what they are learning throughout the academic year. I ensure that learning is interactive, stimulating and fun, which has much to do with my understanding of the children under my care, as I get to know how they learn and what stimulates their interests. Building a rapport and understanding with the students is vital for this environment and practice I talk of to grow, challenge and extend children's learning.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring is an area where I have been able to use my class teacher experience to full effect, as what I give to my class, has been easily applied to an individual, who requires one on one tutelage, as these qualities and priorities are just as relevant and important. In addition to my profession, my subject knowledge is broad and substantial to teach a variety of subjects at different ages, with the organisation and planning efficiency to know that I can conduct and produce effective accessible lessons, with the day to day work balance I have at school. Organisation and efficiency are essential to produce the time and space to plan and evaluate lessons, so that progression is happening in my teaching and planning. My experience of learning a second language at 18 and teaching several children with EAL, means that I can teach and make approachable several subjects to a child whose first language is not English.

Furthermore, I have learnt Japanese to an advanced level, which was a requirement to graduate at my university, and so I am able to teach the language up to a conversational level, with similar standards to how I was taught, in addition to using my own teaching of language, of which I have two years of experience so far in.

Tutoring individual students would be a privilege and a responsibility I welcome and want to pursue, as I know I have the capacity and ability to give lessons, scaffolding, support, and guidance to any child's learning journey. I am tireless in my passion to educate others, regardless of age or background. We all have the essential need and desire to learn more.
For a first time lesson the fee will be 15 in all subjects, so that you can decide whether you would like to carry on with my tutelage, then the fees shown will apply.
