Personal Description:
I graduated from the University of Cambridge with a degree in Classics, and am now living in Tottenham, London.

I have worked part-time as a tutor for several years, teaching particularly Maths and Classics for ages between 8 and 21, which I fit alongside a career as an actor.

I am CRB checked.

Teaching Experience:

I have 4 years of tutoring experience in English, Maths, Latin and Ancient Greek. I have experience teaching 8-11 early numeracy/literacy skills aiming towards 11+, 12-13 year old scholarship preparation, GCSEs, A-Levels, University entrance, University level and adult private interest.

My degree was in Classics with English and I achieved a 590/600 in my Maths A-Level and have kept up a strong interest in Maths ever since, so I teach/have taught Classics to any level, English to University entrance level and Maths up to A-level. I am currently studying to be able to teach Further Maths, which I hope to provide soon.

Tutoring Approach:

I hope to be seen as affable, humourous and very patient and I try to create a comfortable atmosphere in all my lessons and I feel I'm quite good at adapting my style for the different needs of different pupils. When a student is afraid of their subject, I can work calmly to build their confidence; when they struggle for self-motivation, I can provide them with the kick of enthusiasm they need; when they simply have poor teaching at school, I hope I can prove that I can get them where they need to be.

Personal Description:
I've been tutoring pupils for several years since graduating in 2005. This is one of the things that inspired me to take a PGCE course and become a fully qualified teacher. I hold A levels in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Further Maths (all at grade A). From this I know the best way to prepare for these exams and have the knowledge to help you succeed in them also.

Although, I can tutor to a very advanced level, I have experience teaching all ages and abilities. For me it's clear that the people coming to me, need help and support with the subject....if everyone was a maths genius then tuition wouldn't exist!

Martin

Teaching Experience:

I have been working as a full time teacher for 2 years, and currently work in south west London at a grammar school. This gives me an up to date knowledge of the work that needs to be covered for exams, and also a lot of time, interacting with children.

Tutoring Approach:

**I hold a full CRB certificate, this will be presented before I commence any tuition**

I'll tailor my tuition to your ages and ability by spending out first 30 minutes seeing what you know. That way I will be able to provide you with direction and a plan of action for your studies. I'll also work alongside what you are studying at school, so we can reinforce that work, and clear up anything you don't understand.

If that all sounds good then get in contact with me, and we can talk about the tuition you want.

Personal Description:
I'm an easy going, supportive and a very patient tutor who is dedicated to all my students and my tuition. I enjoy helping my students reach their full potential and achieve their aims. I encourage my students to take a general interest in Mathematics as this helps them in doing well. I'm currently in the process of a career change and hope to become a fully qualified teacher in the near future. I teach all levels up to and including A-Level and for all exam boards (AQA, EDEXCEL and OCR). I have thus far been very successful as a Maths tutor and hope to continue this trend especially in light of the tremendous performance of my students in the 2012 academic year. I specialize in helping my students obtain grades A-A* in their exams. Every GCSE (Higher) and A-Level Student I have ever tutored has gained grades A* to B. Every GCSE Foundation student I have tutored has gained a grade C, which is the highest grade available on that paper.

Teaching Experience:

Have had 3 years experience in private tuition, teaching Mathematics at all levels up to and including A-Level. Teach all abilities and ages.

Tutoring Approach:

The aim of my tuition lessons is 2 fold. Firstly it is to give my students a thorough understanding of the Mathematics modules/topics they are studying so that they are able to gain an excellent foundation in studying Mathematics or courses that have a substantial Mathematical content at a higher level. Secondly I give my students intensive and vigorous exam preparation so that they do extremely well in their examinations and achieve high grades. This is usually done by by doing many past papers under exam conditions. I also set my students difficult questions to complete (from many different sources and references). These questions are more difficult than what would normally appear in their actual exams. The purpose of making my students do these questions is so that they are totally prepared to tackle any questions that their exams may throw at them.

Personal Description:
I am about to graduate from my masters degree in Financial Computing at UCL with a distinction and also did my bachelor degree in Mathematics (Upper Second Class) at UCL. I am starting a job in Equities at Goldman Sachs in London in June.

Having spent my childhood in Luxembourg, I am fluent in 4 languages (German, French, English and Luxembourgish) and semi-fluent in Swedish.

I also teach the piano, as I have played the piano since the age of 3. I have won several international piano competitions (e.g. 1st Prize in the International Chopin Piano Competition in Taiwan).

I currently have several projects in which I am the lead website programmer and designer and am more than happy to pass on my knowledge, acquired through countless hours of programming, research and online tutorials.

Teaching Experience:

For the past 3 years, I have continuously had 4 or more students in Mathematics, German and Music. All my students have managed to reach their goals, be it personal achievements or needing to be prepared for exams. My most promising student started out with an average of F in German and, a year later, successfully completed his German GCSE with an A*.

Tutoring Approach:

All of my students enjoy my teaching style as it is less formal and thus more relaxed. It has made all of my students motivated as, from my overall experience, the last thing a kid or teenager wants to do outside of school is a lesson that reminds them of school.

Personal Description:
I head from India. I completed my Graduation from St. Xavier's College in Kolkata in Physics. Currently I am doing my Masters in Physics from the University of Sussex. Studying Physics has made my basic concepts in Maths very clear along with Physics.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored before, children from standard 3 to 10 and they have all scored reasonably well in their examinations.

Tutoring Approach:

While teaching, I do not stick only to books. I always try to give practical examples, whenever possible, to make complex situations, laws, rules, equations, formulae etcetera, simpler and easier to understand and memorise. I think that helps children to relate the subjects to their everyday life and hence gets them interested into them.

Personal Description:
I am a woman of mature years, with first hand experience of the educational system in Canada and the UK. I enjoy learning and stretching my brain intellectually; a sound mind in a (hopefully) sound body.

After studying Chemistry at Chelsea College, University of London, I spent ten years as a research chemist with an engineering company. I was part of a team investigating diesel engine emissions, with the aim of understanding how to reduce them to meet proposed environmental emission regulations. During this time I obtained my post graduate diploma in Environmental Pollution Controls and professional membership of the Royal Society of Chemistry. It helped me understand that science and technology can be a blessing when used appropriately, and that we have a duty to count the cost of what we intend to do with it.

I then took advantage of an opportunity to do some study and travel with a Christian Missions organisation, based in Canada, initially for six months that turned into several years. Overall I spent ten years in Canada and have lived in Calgary (Alberta), Vancouver (British Columbia), Spiritwood (Saskatchewan), Timmins (Ontario) and may have visited some places, like Moose Factory, that some Canadians may not be familiar with. I studied Theology at Regent College in Vancouver and spent several years working in churches as a Lay Pastoral Assistant.

Since returning to the UK I have worked with several well known Oxford businesses, such as Oxfordshire County Council, the University of Oxford and Oxford University Press, and recently started my own business.

Teaching Experience:

While I was working in London I undertook voluntary work with the local literacy project, helping people with reading and writing. During my time in Canada I taught small groups of adults and young people who were interested in religious issues in Bible studies and Sunday School. I also undertook personal tutoring in Chemistry, Physics, and Maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I think that learning can be fun and am kind to people who don't easily "do" my subjects. I try to use an approach to learning that will help you understand and get to grips with something that you may previously have found difficult. I also believe in public transport and cycling, so am willing to use a combination of these methods to visit you in your home if you are unable to get to Headington easily.

Personal Description:
At Birmingham University I obtained a first class degree in mathematics and went on to qualify as a chartered accountant. It was my desire to learn Spanish that originally made me move to Andalucía in the south of Spain ten years ago. With full immersion in the language, I soon became fluent in Spanish. In order to be with my wife, I moved to Guatemala, where I took the opportunity for a career change in the local village school. I realised that teaching gave a much higher job satisfaction and was much more suited to my lively, upbeat manner.

Teaching Experience:

After some teacher training I found a job as a maths teacher in an international bilingual school called Atitlán Multicultural Academy. I went on to become the headmaster of the school for three years. Monitoring and assessing other teachers gave me a great insight into different styles. After the birth of my daughter I wanted to travel less so I started giving Spanish and maths lessons via skype. This video conferencing tool means I can give classes face to face to students in the comfort of their own home.

Tutoring Approach:

My Spanish lesson plans are based completely on the student's objectives and learning styles. Most of my present students want to learn conversational Spanish, so I concentrate more on the oral skills of speaking and listening. However, I always try and cover the grammatical points in a clear systematic way, ensuring the student does not get demotivated with the more technical side. The most important for me is that learning is fun, and clear advancements are made in each class.

The maths lessons deal with the specific problems of the students to aid understanding in areas that they did not fully pick up in school. I specialise in exam preparation for GCSE, AS level and A level. The students are made to analyse the question, break down the requirements and give structure to their answers whilst making notes on the steps which they found difficult.

Personal Description:
I am a young, female primary school teacher in the Doncaster/Wakefield area. Aside from my enthusiasm for teaching and helping children to achieve, I am interested in academic areas including sociology and languages. I enjoy travel and reading. I have worked voluntarily as a teaching assistant and completed a degree in Sociology before training to be a teacher. I now work as a supply teacher at primary level and as a personal tutor to primary and secondary level children. I hold an enhanced DBS check dated December 2013.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified primary school teacher who has taught classes of all ages at primary level. As a supply teacher, I have worked in many different schools and, as such, I develop positive relationships very quickly with both children and adults. I enjoy working with individuals and small groups in academic tasks and find that children are very responsive to this lower teacher-pupil ratio. I have found that working in these situations really helps to boost children's concentration and confidence in their work. They also feel more comfortable to ask questions in areas they find difficult. When tutoring, I am to create a positive, friendly and professional relationship where children feel comfortable with what they are learning, but also feel they can ask for help when required.

Tutoring Approach:

I recognise that children learn in many different ways - some by seeing and visualising, some by talking and discussing, and some by doing a physical or mental activity. I aim to tutor children using the learning style that best suits them. In a classroom, it is often difficult to meet the needs of every child. Personal tuition provides children with valuable one-to-one time, where the focus is on them and them alone. I believe that personal tuition does much to increase achievement in those weaker areas, but also serves to challenge and develop knowledge in stronger areas. Following a free initial consultation, I provide personalised programmes of study tailored exactly to meet the needs of the child involved. I am passionate about helping children to reach their full potential and will do all I can to make this happen. Sessions take place in the child's own home and are arranged on a flexible basis with parent or guardian. I can provide tuition from 30 minutes per week to more intensive programmes consisting of several hours per week in the school holidays.

I currently have slots available on weekday evenings and am available most Saturday mornings and early afternoon. I am not available on Sundays.

I really appreciate hard work and take pride in my students' abilities to excel.

Teaching Experience:

I have been giving private lessons and assisting teaching for the past year and continue to help at evening classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Tutoring Approach:

First lessons are given free of charge and are considered a trial for both myself and the prospective student.

I take a patient and practical approach. I prefer to tutor one on one at my students' location, if I use an online medium I prefer to use a collaborative online interface (I have a scribblar subscription for this purpose) to using Skype.

Personal Description:
FIRST LESSON FREE (40 minutes)
Travelling expenses of £5 may be payable depending on your location

I am a Medical student and a published author of an A Level Chemistry book. I have been teaching for more than 4 years, both group lessons and one to one.

My students have achieved grades above that expected from their schools. I have experience teaching students from KS1 up to Advanced Level. My teaching techniques have proved very effective to students of all ages including mature students and students with learning disabilities.

I am also a grade 4 violinist and have conducted two local Fidle Fiestas. I also hold a national "Young computer scientist" award.

In 2012, I founded a teaching organisation which is registered in the UK. As part of this I have also been providing free / discounted lessons to students from low incomes families. The organisation is also listed in UK school sponsors list. (Please get in touch and I will send you a link to the website where you can read more)

Knowing what to write in an exam will help you get the high grades you want. The same question under different exam boards sometimes require slightly different answers. These are what we sometimes refer to as "mark scheme" answers. By doing many past papers and studying the mark schemes, one can familiarise themselves with the sort of answer an examiner is looking for. I can teach you just this so your answers will be to the point.

I believe anyone can get high grades with the right practice. A good example is one of my GCSE students who was predicted D and E`s by her school before she started having lessons. Within two months (8 lessons) of having lessons, she got A-A*s in her mock GCSE exams resulting in her predicted grades being lifted up.

My results

A Level
Chemistry A*
Biology A*
Maths A*
Physics A

GCSE

9 A*s, 4 distinctions

Teaching Experience:

More than 5 years private tutoring experience one to one and group tuition
More than 1 year online tutoring experience

Tutoring Approach:

I follow the national curriculum up to KS3 and the respective exam boards for GCSE and A Level.

My approach to tutoring will depend on the individual student and their needs. Some students come to me with a very good idea about their current level. These students can usually tell me where they need help.

Other students need directing. It is quite common for students to not know where they should be heading with their revision. For these students I guide them using the following framework:

- Assessing the level of the student (Different students need different levels of explanation):
I won't use one whole lesson for this assessment. It will be done as I continue to teach the student. I can usually get a very good idea about the student after the first lesson.

- Explaining areas of the subject which the student find difficult to understand and doing questions based on those topics

- Testing the student on all areas using "textbook questions" and past paper questions

- Analysing past paper mark schemes (mostly for GCSE and A Level) which is proven to help with the grades
