Personal Description:
I have been told that I am a passionate, encouraging and dedicated tutor.

"Edward helped both me and my daughter with Maths tuition this year, for GCSE higher level and IGCSE respectively. We both made excellent progress and grew in confidence with help and encouragement from Ed, who combines an easygoing manner with an extremely serious and professional approach to teaching his subject. Ed is able to get right to the heart of a student's confusion very quickly and to give clear and well-illustrated explanations. I couldn't recommend Ed more highly."

Teaching Experience:

I hold a 1st Class degree (Bsc) in Mathematics from Durham University and have been tutoring full-time since September 08.

I mainly tutor GCSE and A-level Physics and Maths (including further maths) but do have experience tutoring at other levels.

I have taught GCSE mathematics in a local private school and continue to hold 1st and 2nd year tutorials at Sussex University.

I usually hold tutorials at my home in Brighton (please see contact details) but do occasionally travel to the student's house.

Personal Description:
I am an experienced tutor at all levels- primary school to masters.

My areas of expertise are Politics and Philosophy; particularly Political Theory, International Relations and Ethics.

I also teach English, Maths and History to GCSE.

I am able to provide PPE Interview practice.

Academic CV
UNIVERSITY OF OXFORD
MSt. Women's Studies (Distinction, 83 in dissertation)
BA Philosophy, Politics and Economics

I am currently applying for a PhD in political theory.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught primary school children in order to prepare them for entrance exams, helped A-level students who had to miss school for medical reasons achieve an A* and supervised master's dissertations.

I have taught political theory to Politics A-level classes at secondary schools and also volunteer for a project called the Hackney Pirates. This involves working one-to-one with children aged 9-12 who have been referred by social services because they are at risk of educational disadvantage.

Tutoring Approach:

I enjoy tutoring as I feel like working one to one with people enables you to adapt to their interests, ways of learning and level in a way that is not possible for a group lesson.

I enjoy the challenge of conveying often complex information or ideas in a simple way and love watching people I tutor progress.

I adapt my teaching style and content to the individual so that they can really get the most out of each session.

Personal Description:
Teaching is a passion and religion for me. My students flourish as I start grounds up, make them practice and resolve complex problems with one motto to achieve A/A*.
My tutoring sessions are truly bespoke to suit your needs ranging from one or two weekly sessions after school or revision sessions during school breaks.
Lessons can either take place at my house or student's house or via online means. I live in Finchley and easily accessible through Tube, Bus.

My adeptness comes from the fact that I can make students resolve problems using mental ability, fast resolution using multiple methods with one thought that focuses on achieving the best possible grade.

I am willing to guarantee the success with the right devotion from the students.

Teaching Experience:

I mainly teach maths to students taking GCSE/IGCSE, AS/A2 levels through in person classes or through online means for distant students.

Most of my past and current students are from - QE Boys, Haberdashers Boys, Westminster school, St Paul's Boys, South Hampstead Girls High school, Hasmonean High school, Ashmole academy, Fortismere, Woodhouse College and QE Girls.

I have tutored students from Epsom College, Charterhouse and Benenden Girls (Kent) during school breaks and study leave period.

I have successfully tutored students who have not quite met their university entrance conditions and want to re-take Maths modules while committing to other GAP year projects.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring lessons differ from the norm because they are truly bespoke. My adeptness comes from the fact that I can make students resolve problems using mental ability, fast resolution using multiple methods with one thought that focuses on achieving the best possible grade.

My selfishness, I want to 'impart' and 'be satisfied' that I am spreading my knowledge. I am willing to guarantee the success with the right devotion from the students.

WHAT MY STUDENTS SAY ABOUT ME:
"Leena is an extremely dedicated Maths tutor. Our son excelled in Maths and became very confident in the subject with Leena's help and as a consequence, he has decided to do "A" level Maths. Further, Leena is very friendly and easy to get on with, therefore she is able to put students at ease, raise their confidence and most of all, get the best out of a student."
- Parent of student taking IGCSE

"Leena has been a brilliant tutor in helping me for my A-Level Maths exams: her work rate is truly remarkable: we were able to cover lots of material during lessons, and she taught me in a very effective and comprehensible way. From past papers to textbooks to general queries, Leena could help me with everything, and she was very patient when I didn't understand something, and I would thoroughly recommend her to anyone wishing to get help from a Maths tutor."
- A level student(Core Maths), Westminster school

"Leena was my Tutor for Further Maths. Before seeking her help I was struggling to keep up in class with the fast paced course. Leena was able to explain each topic in a new way which helped me grip the fundamentals behind the subject. I then went on to becoming more confident in my maths. Thank you very much. "
- A level student(Further Maths), Ashmole Academy

Personal Description:
I am enthusiastic, approachable, bubbly professional who lives for teaching. Well articulated and presentable. Teaching is my profession which I really do enjoy doing. I was born in Wales, taught in Swansea and Birmingham. I have also tutored through local authorities and schools. I am well specialized in Mathematics and very much enjoy the subject.

Teaching Experience:

I specialize in Secondary Mathematics 11-18 years, with teacher training from the Birmingham University. I have also tutored via Fleet tutors and the local authority, including family and friends. I have experienced teaching Maths in several comprehensive.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to be direct and highly organised and I put forth the tutees to pick up these skills early on as it makes teaching and learning a lot less difficult. I explain the whys in mathematics rather than work on solving solutions as I believe grasping an intuitive concept will lead to the material staying longer in the memory and utilised in future practical use. My approach to teaching is simply to teach in a way that pupils never forget.

Personal Description:
I graduated from the University of Birmingham in June 2010 with a first class degree in maths. I also attained grade A in my maths, further maths and physics A levels.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring since leaving university, and have worked with many students who are currently studying for their GCSEs and A levels. However, I have no teaching experience in schools or teaching qualifications.

Tutoring Approach:

I generally prefer to let the tutee have a go at the questions they're working on, only giving them help when I feel they're at a loss as to where to go next. This is mostly due to my own experience of learning maths as I found that, when I managed to solve a problem by myself, I tended to more easily remember how to do it again when it came to revising for my exams. However, the main reason I got a first in maths was because I went over and over previous examples and questions until I'd learned every method and could solve every problem, so if need be I will just work through a question for them (obviously ensuring they understand each step as we go along) and simply let them pick up the methods that I'm using. This way I can be sure that they have a solution that they understand and can look back at in the future for guidance.

Personal Description:
Although I now have a PGCE in mathematics I have been lucky enough to get the chance to apply my skills in maths and physics whilst working as an engineer in the automotive and white goods industries. It gave me the opportunity to travel abroad and to get involved with companies such as Dyson, Jaguar, Austin Martin and then even allowed me to watch rockets being built in Russia.
I trained engineers and factory workers in the use of mathematical and physics based subjects. Some of those I taught had jobs which involved predominantly manual skills and so they were a little rusty when applying mathematical techniques. This makes me appreciate the nervousness some adults have when presented with a subject they may not have touched since leaving school.
After leaving the engineering world I had a brief spell working as a trainer in the insurance arena and then finally ended up teaching mathematics in secondary schools.

Teaching Experience:

I worked as a manufacturing engineer for 8 years and then I taught engineers and factory workers for 10 years in the use of techniques involving mathematics and physics. After leaving the engineering world I trained adults to use a mainframe software program and then I went on to become a secondary school mathematics teacher. Finally I started tutoring from home working with various types of pupils. Some pupils have special needs, whilst others are working towards an A grade in their A levels.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to know why the tutee wishes to study. It may be to improve their confidence or to pass an exam. This will then shape the nature of the tutoring sessions. My focus is to provide people with the knowledge that is most useful to them and their aspirations.

Personal Description:
As a British Chinese, I spent my childhood in China until I was 11 when my family moved to London. I found the pace of study of mathematics at my state school to be too slow for my curiosity. From the age of 12, I self-taught mathematics until university. During this period, I completed my GCSE maths with A* at the age of 12, A-level maths at 14 with a score of 599/600, A-level further maths at 16. For A-level studies, I completed 7 A-levels (Maths, Further Maths, Music, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Business Studies) and AS-level in ICT, all at my inner city state school. I went on to study Mathematics at Imperial College, graduated with first class honours and my final year exam results ranked first in my year.

I worked for a number of years for a finance firm in the City of London. At the same time, I have been tutoring since I was 18. My tutoring spread through recommendations, and I still have a number of long term tutees. I have always found tutoring to be most satisfying and fulfilling, especially when I witness students' progress from bafflement to appreciation, and eventually achieving their aspirations. Now I have decided to become a dedicated full time professional tutor.

Please note the following:
1) I offer an initial 2 hours session charged at half price, to allow the new student to have a 'taste' of my tutoring.
2) If you feel your child is particularly gifted in maths, then I may agree to take him or her on for much reduced fees to help nurture a talent.

Teaching Experience:

I have done a great deal of one-to-one maths tuitions, more than 40 students over the last ten years and more than 2500 hours. Almost all the tuition is in mathematics, although sometimes I also help with sciences at the same time. All my previous students have been introduced to me by way of recommendation. I have tutored maths at GCSE, A-level, and also tutored Further Maths. All my students have done very well in their maths exams, so far all A's and A*'s, they have had offers and gone to top universities, including: Oxford, UCL, KCL, Warwick, Cardiff.

I would say my teaching experience started from myself, as I self-taught maths until university. In order to master my subject by myself, I read many text books and assimilate the best ideas and methods of each. In the end, I summarized the best methods, which are often starkly intuitive and widely applicable. With these unique methods, a focus on deep intuitions and my own enthusiasm, the passion I have for maths is often transferred to my tutees. This renewed intrigue and confidence also help the tutees to succeed in their maths.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring approach depends on the goal of the tuition. In cases of examination preparation, I first ensure the relevant topics are covered to the extent that the tutee has all the tools to at least get an A, where time permit, more thorough learning would be preferred. Examination preparation is a speciality for me, for I have prepared for and done many exams, the techniques I developed helped me to achieve top grades, near 100% marks with consistency, as well as ranking first in my final year degree exam. One of the many important skills I teach in this area is how to score all the marks that your ability allows - without mistakes and consistently.

More likely, with a goal of improving mathematics learning, I use the best methods I found to help my tutees to develop a deep intuition for ideas and concepts. Often, when taught in the right way, mathematics is no longer difficult. Initial sessions are often used to bridge gaps in tutees' knowledge, which often includes relearning some core concepts with superior methods. Even some of the simplest ideas in mathematics, have far-reaching consequences, but students will only realise that when those ideas are learnt to certain depth. When the tutees have developed good enough understandings, they will start to build confidence and often take more interest in the subject. In practice, all of my long term tutees eventually learn all their maths (GCSE and A-level) from me, and often would surpass their classroom maths within a few months.

Finally, I place great importance in maintaining a positive relationship with the tutees. Before any tuition start, after a discussion with the parents, I would have a chat with the student alone (in most cases). We would talk about what they like to do, what they think of their maths, where they would like to take it and how I could help them. My aim is to become someone the students can trust and relate to, someone who can understand and help them achieve their goals.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified teacher with 7 years' experience teaching at Key Stages 1 and 2 and have been tutoring for the past 2 years. As a current teacher, I am very familiar with current assessment requirements across primary level and have 2 years' experience of tutoring year 6 pupils in mathematics through the government-funded one-to-one tuition scheme.

I have successfully tutored children aged 4-11 in both English and Maths.

In addition to my primary teaching experience, I have a 2.1 degree in German Studies from the University of Warwick and can confidently teach this subject to A-level if required. I have successfully tutored GCSE and A-level students in German, boosting grades by an average of 2 levels (ie. from a C to an A).

Teaching Experience:

Current Year 2 teacher at local primary.
3 years' experience of teaching in upper-Key Stage 2.
2 years' experience of personal tuition (Mathematics - year 6)
Postgraduate Certificate in Education: 2007
TEFL experience - Germany 2004-5

Tutoring Approach:

I like to take a little time to get to know my students and assess their strengths and weaknesses. I encourage the child to identify his or her own areas they think they need to work on.

After an initial introduction, the tuition process is intensive, with plenty of practice and guidance! I am confident in using ICT, where necessary, to illustrate key concepts.

Generally, I have found that an hour per week is sufficient to improve a child's confidence and ability. However, if you feel your child would benefit from more hours' tuition per week, I will be happy to accommodate them.

Personal Description:
I am about to graduate from my masters degree in Financial Computing at UCL with a distinction and also did my bachelor degree in Mathematics (Upper Second Class) at UCL. I am starting a job in Equities at Goldman Sachs in London in June.

Having spent my childhood in Luxembourg, I am fluent in 4 languages (German, French, English and Luxembourgish) and semi-fluent in Swedish.

I also teach the piano, as I have played the piano since the age of 3. I have won several international piano competitions (e.g. 1st Prize in the International Chopin Piano Competition in Taiwan).

Teaching Experience:

For the past 3 years, I have continuously had 4 or more students in Mathematics, German and Music. All my students have managed to reach their goals, be it personal achievements or needing to be prepared for exams. My most promising student started out with an average of F in German and, a year later, successfully completed his German GCSE with an A*.

Tutoring Approach:

All of my students enjoy my teaching style as it is less formal and thus more relaxed. It has made all of my students motivated as, from my overall experience, the last thing a kid or teenager wants to do outside of school is a lesson that reminds them of school.

Personal Description:
My career was spent in the computer industry and management consulting, mainly with Deloitte and Oracle.

Teaching Experience:

I have wide experience in private tutoring of Maths at GCSE and IGCSE Level. In the past year I have been giving 1-1 tuition to 15 students who attend schools in Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge that use Edexcel and OCR Exam Boards. I have also given tuition to students who wish to refresh their "mental maths", gain a teaching qualification or gain entry to officer training in the Armed Services.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach depends partly on how near the Exam date is. If the date is some way away I will focus on teaching the topics the pupil identifies that they have difficulty with. In particular I like to go through what the pupil has been taught in class since my last tuition session to check that they understand it and can successfully tackle exam questions in the topic. As the exam date gets nearer I work through a checklist of every topic in the syllabus, and ensure I cover everything the pupil needs to understand to achieve their target Grade.

Personal Description:
I hold a PhD from Imperial College London and have a strong academic track record having previously led cutting-edge industrial and academic research in science and statistics. I am fascinated by science and maths and I believe my genuine enthusiasm for the fields, combined with my working knowledge, based on years as an active researcher, is evident in my teaching. In a recent school-based observation of my teaching, it was noted that, "your subject knowledge is fabulous".

I enjoy working with students of varying ages and abilities and take pride in encouraging students to reach their full potential. I am patient and understanding in my approach, which I will adapt to meet the strengths and needs of individual learners. I have an up-to- date knowledge of the national curriculum, enabling me to teach biology, chemistry, physics and maths at KS3 and KS4. I am experienced in teaching both AS and A2 level biology and chemistry.

I have years of experience as a tenured university lecturer where I taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. I have supervised 8 PhD students to successful completion of their thesis. Having interviewed numerous UCAS candidates for degree places, I can also offer advice to hone your personal statement.

Teaching Experience:

I was a Lecturer at the University of Nottingham for 8 years. During this time I taught a range of subjects on the undergraduate pharmacy degree programme, sat on the University examination board for the award of undergraduate degrees and supervised several PhD students to successful completion of their thesis.

I am now a full-time personal tutor with three years experience and over 40 GB of teaching resources which I use to support my teaching. I am a member of the Tutors Association, an independent regulatory body set up to ensure standards within the tuition industry and as such, I have signed up to their code of ethics.

I also have recent school-based teaching experience at secondary level. I am familiar with all the major examination boards (AQA, OCR, EdExcel, IB). I have worked with children who are gifted and talented and with special educational needs such as Asperger Syndrome, autism, ADHD, partial hearing and dyslexia. Having lived and worked abroad for a number of years, I also have experience of working with students for whom English is an additional language.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in taking a very individual approach to tutoring, adapting approaches and resources to fit the needs of the individual. Prior to commencing tuition, we will agree tuition goals and I will work with these to develop a personalized scheme of learning. During tuition I will monitor student progress and keep records of this so that learning and attainment can be tracked and approaches can be continually adapted to meet the developing needs of the learner.

However, most importantly of all, I believe learning should be fun. I am friendly and approachable and I work hard to ensure that students enjoy having tuition, which ultimately will maximise the progress they make.

I can carry out tuition in your home, in my own home, online or at an agreed public place (such as a library).

I offer small 2-2-1 or small group tuition in addition to 1-2-1 time. Please contact me to discuss rates for this service.

A 5% discount is offered to all students paying monthly in advance where more than £200 of tuition is booked.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified teacher, with over 12 years experience in both post 16 and mainstream education. My position prior to that, was that of Programme Area Manager, at a 6th Form College in North London.
As such, the development of students is at the heart of everything I do, and my aim is to always to help them to achieve their goals, build their self confidence, and develop the essential skills to help them become successful and well rounded adults. Having worked in a number of schools and colleges, with a variety of challenging students of all ages and abilities, I recognised that every child needs a different approach to their learning, as each has specific learning needs. My role over the years has been to provide the necessary support and guidance to each individual student according to his or her needs.
Being also a semi-professional musician and teacher of music and Music Technology, I have a very good understanding of both the creative as well as the more academic type of student, and have developed strategies to be able to support and develop all students.

Teaching Experience:

I began teaching at Primary level, coaching in various North London Schools. From their I went on to teach young persons and adults at a College in Essex, and did this for 6 years before taking a role as programme area manager at a a North London College. I have had many supply teaching roles in colleges and secondary education, and I am currently working as a freelance teaching for a North London Academy, and a Private organisation in East London.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to instil, build and develop self confidence, and belief, and also to make sessions fun and enjoyable, using a variety of hands on practical activities, and teaching methods, so the students develop a genuine love and desire for the subject. With my teaching methods, which is very much more of a coaching model, students make progress rapidly, and achieve their goals and aims, and leave sessions feeling fulfilled and feeling that they have accomplished something substantial. Most cant wait for the next session.

Personal Description:
I am a Mathematics undergraduate at Imperial College London. I have just completed `A` levels 4 months ago and below are my special interests whilst studying 'A' levels:
•Discovering alternative (to the textbook) viewpoints to explain physical phenomena.
•Completing proofs in mathematics textbooks (especially for the statistics modules).
•Sharing and contemplating these with peers and teachers!

I thoroughly enjoyed the process of deriving various formulae from first principles in order to remember them rather than purely memorising them as instructed by the textbook in many cases. Furthermore, I was even more excited when my peers(mostly juniors!) shared my stance when I shared my ideas. I am `dying` to share them with you!
(NB I am able to communicate in English and Mandarin. This might be helpful if you have linguistic issues.)

Hobbies: Reading (about mathematical/theoretical physics), badminton, running and swimming.

Teaching Experience:

•Demonstrating scientific experiments during school open days (2012-2013).
•Informally teaching my peers using derived mathematical proofs and alternative viewpoints in Physics as mentioned before.

Tutoring Approach:

I am most free on
Wednesdays after 1230 and Saturdays all day.
I will try to work something out for other times.

I would be happy to tutor online (at a lower rate).

A charge of £1 for every 5 minutes of travelling in addition to travelling costs will be charged if I were to travel to you. This will be fixed after the first session.

Personal Description:
I'm a physics student studying at Imperial College London entering second year having achieved a first class grade in my first year. Alongside my physics studies, I'm an active musician - a member of the Cardiff County Youth Orchestra, Imperial College Big Band and Imperial College Symphony Orchestra - and an aspiring programmer, currently self-teaching Python.

Teaching Experience:

Throughout sixth form, I tutored local secondary and primary school students privately, arranged official after-school revision sessions for GCSE students with my friends, partook in numeracy schemes for younger secondary school students requiring additional assistance and was required to present topics, such as energy wastage, to KS3 classes as part of the Welsh Baccalaureate (which I also passed but was unable to fit in the Qualifications section below).

I'm also taking a Communicating Physics option this coming year at Imperial, which entails visiting and teaching in schools in London for a period of the year. While this isn't past experience, I feel it is also indicative of my continuing dedication to, and enjoyment of, sharing my understanding and passion for my subjects with younger students.

Tutoring Approach:

Understanding the subject is everything: I work to ensure that the student knows the subject as inside-out as possible, in order for them not only to understand the topics expected of them, but also for them to deal with any curveball questions thrown their way during exams (which seperates the good students from the very good students). I also emphasise the importance of practice in developing good exam technique.
