Personal Description:
I am a professional, dedicated and enthusiastic tutor with over 20 years experience, extremely quick at identifying student problem areas and devising the most efficient solutions, sometimes with budget or time constraints. Where necessary I focus on exam technique as I find many capable and knowledgeable students gain confidence (and marks!) once these skills are taught.

I am well-liked by my tutees and my services are frequently recommended to siblings and friends.

Teaching Experience:

As well as many years continuous home-tutoring experience, I have taught in both state and private sectors since 1986; examples being Surrey College (Guildford), Horsell High School (Woking) and Farnborough College of Technology, and as recently as April 2013, the prestigious Seaford College in Petworth, W.Sussex.

I have a vast library of past examination papers in all my subjects at GCSE and GCE A level for Edexcel, AQA and OCR examining boards.

In addition I have some experience tutoring both common entrance and Baccalaureate Maths, Physics and Chemistry.

Tutoring Approach:

I appreciate that for most tutees private tuition represents a workload additional to both schoolwork and homework.

Therefore I aim to make tuition as interesting, interactive and productive as possible- whilst focusing on their objectives- usually a target examination grade. Experience has shown that students can expect learning progress with an experienced tutor such as myself to be 3-5 times faster than could be made in a typical school classroom, whilst simultaneously gaining a fuller understanding of the topics covered.

Personal Description:
I am a final year medical student studying at Imperial College London. I achieved two academic distinctions(top 20%) in pre-clinical studies. I achieved grade A for all my A level subjects which are biology, chemistry, maths and AS psychology and physics, as well as A* for GCSE maths, science, Mandarin.

Teaching Experience:

I have 5-year tutoring experience and have tutored numerous students GCSE Maths with various exam boards with success.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that one of the problems students in school encounter is that the teachers tend to explain each aspect of knowledge using their preferred ways, which may not necessarily suit the student, as different students have different ways of learning. Moreover, due to the large number of students per class, not enough time and patience is devoted to individual students. Most teachers are not able to of explore the student's capability and understanding, merely passively pass on the knowledge followed by inefficient results. As a consequence, students come home without having acquired a thorough understanding of the knowledge learnt in class, and end up having to rigidly memorise the 'boring' facts, which are usually quickly forgotten. As a result students begin to view learning as a laborious and boring process which have no applicable values in the future.

My approach: Learning can be FUN!! Independent thinking and confidence is the key.

My approach in tutoring follows two steps: 1. explore the student's own preference in the means of learning 2. incorporate these means of learning in the tutoring process, so that the student can achieve a thorough understanding of the subject in a most efficient way. I also like to focus on encouraging the development of the student's interest in the subject as well as the ability to confidently apply the knowledge , because I believe that disinterest in learning stems from an insufficient understanding and a feeling of lack of control over the knowledge. Therefore, the more you understand and have command over the subject, the more you'll love the subject! (the sense of achievement comes not only from high grades, but every step of learning along the way!!)

From my experience teaching various students of a range of levels, no matter how much they dislike the subject initially, every question they solve on their own, from first principle, helps changing the way they view the subject and gaining more confidence.

Personal Description:
Hello! I am an intelligent, well-educated young woman studying English Literature at the university of Sussex. I have completed my first year - so far having acheived a 2:1 - and did exceptionally well at A level and GCSEs. I attended one of the highest acheiving schools in the country, King Edward VI Grammar School for Girls, and genuinely enjoy education, both learning and teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored my younger brother for years in all school subjects, and also his classmates. Until now I have been too young to work for a tutoring organisation - I am 19, but assure you that I have all the skills necessary to help your child acheive their goals. I have also been self employed as a babysitter, with experience with children from new-born to 15, and so have plenty of knowledge of how children are best communicated with and urged to do their best. I was a mentor in my secondary school for pupils of GCSE age in English and French, which meant I spent two hours a week with the girls struggling - my tuition led them to acheive A and A* grades respectively.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very relaxed, laid-back person, so my natural tutoring style reflects this. I see no help in pushing a child too hard or fast, which will only make them more resistant to the subject they are already struggling with. Particularly for primary age children, I would try to make the session fun, including games alongside traditional teaching. I am happy, though, to be lead by you in my approach to your child, as you clearly know them best. In all my tutoring experience so far, however, I have seen wonderful results.

Personal Description:
I am a fourth year medical student at King's College London aspiring to embark on an academic surgery career. I am particularly interested in education and whilst at university, I have been involved in various extracurricular activities including organising fundraising, academic support and community events.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught a diverse audience of students, from teaching at a volunteer run homework club for inner city children with refugee status to tutoring middle aged professionals preparing for medical school entrance examinations. This range of audience has led me to acquire some of the most important communication skills required to become an excellent tutor. I have been tutoring secondary school pupils for over 5 years now and I feel as a secondary student of the recent past myself I can pass on the techniques and methods that I know work to excel in today's system.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a firm believer in a tailored and planned approach to every student. Each student has individual needs which have to be fully understood before a plan of action can be formulated. I build a plan with my students and we work together to ensure progress through it. Regular reflection is also an important aspect of my teaching approach which helps the student realise where they need to focus.

Personal Description:
At present, I work as a Learning Support Assistant at the Hackney community College.
I enjoy supporting the students in my care on a one to one basis to realise their set targets as prescribed in their in their Individual Educational Plans. This I achieve by focusing on small improvements in skills learned day to day and planning around these gains to achieve further goals. Working in small groups or on one to one basis with students allows me to effectively communicate with my learners and help meet their needs. I use Makaton for emphasis and allow as much time as time as my students need to respond. This has reduced feelings of anxiety when responding to questions in some students. Also working one-to-one with students has enabled me build a trusting professional relationship with students in my care that allows them to feel secure and free to interact and share information or take a lead in communication or in exploring a learning task.
Providing one to one support places me in a key position to re emphases things that the teacher just said and to model good behaviour.
I am amongst the first to notice or hear any new vocabulary adopted by the students I support.
Most recently, I have had as a paraeducator to support students with severe to mild learning disability and autism use the i-pad as a learning and communicative tool. It was a pleasure to see the smiles on the faces of the students when they touch their way through options on the screen that grossly empowered my students to express their thoughts and wishes. A myriad of possibilities open up daily to the learners through engaging with the i-pad or when I am supporting them on field trips. It has been awesome to be part of generating meaning and the mastery of real Life Skills for the disabled by making learning fun.
In supporting students to build a portfolio on the 'Topic All About me'; I found my role in merely mediating and facilitating learning most enjoyable rather than dictating somehow what is to be learnt. In using this pupil centered strategy while my learners were active participants eg. deciding what or whom to photographs and accepting or rejecting facts presented them. Students were empowered and motivated to learn. They are therefore eager to come to school.
Using the Proloquotogo application say, non-verbal students were able to give voice to their thoughts by just tapping on icon eg :I want to go out; I want a drink; by choosing from options. I have noticed that students who were at a symbol stage were after a term beginning to recognise frequently used text.
I enjoy providing one to one support because give me a lot of responsibility and personal satisfaction to have been of help to others.
A lot of my time is currently spent at college to safeguard learners one to one and helping students choose from given closed options. Clear communication one to one basis has led to a reduction in challenging behavior and related incidents.
Working one to one with autistic individuals has given me a cutting edge insight into the world of autism and this has enhanced my understanding and communication with all people and improved my teaching as a whole.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching has fascinated me ever since I was posted to teach at Hohoe E.P Secondary as an unqualified teacher on leaving College in 1989.This was my National service. At the time, the school had a large student population with few teachers. On arrival at post, I immediately set to work on innovatively teaching Mathematics and Science with a pupil centred approach to the first year group. This produced independent learners who were able to make good progress through independent study and so produced good exams results and became useful citizens.
My interest in formal teaching started when; I enrolled at the University of Cape Coast to sharpen the teaching methodologies handed down to me by my own tutors. I explored the use of many other teaching strategies by the end of my study. At Deks Preparatory School, I fine tuned the use of student centred strategies that produced very confident learners by exploring students' entry behavior and building on the previous knowledge of students. I encouraged active participation of learners in the teaching-learning process using a lot of hands on activities. This created opportunities for students to change or modify their views. This led to greater understandings and built the confidence of my pupils. These learners went further to apply knowledge gained to differing situations and became great achievers and successful people in the community later in life. I use feedback from learners and my colleagues to make valuable changes that improve my teaching.
Prior to my employment at the Brooks Special School as a Special Needs, Teaching Assistant, I was an accomplished support worker with a good understanding of autism syndrome disorder. This enabled me expertly support the learning of children with severe learning disability and autism, who may exhibit challenging behaviour. On a 1:1 basis I supported the Class teacher interpret the National curriculum in a creative manner using Jolly Phonics, Makaton sign language for emphasis as well as fun and humour. Learners responded positively to instruction by daily doing their routines of work; they maintained longer eye contact and participated in the social and academic processes of the school. I kept pupils with a short attention span on their work by using a 'Now' and 'Next' card to refocus learners on the task with persuasion and time outs when necessary. Learners achieved most of the targets stipulated in their individual Education plans. I have learned to plan the daily activities of learners in such a manner that all daily activities including circle time activities were geared towards realising a set goal of the individual learner.
I supported my Class teacher ensure the welfare of the Pupils by providing expert support to pupils who have epilepsy attacks and with administration of medication. I made sure the learning environment was safe and removed any objects with which pupils may cause harm; and never leaving pupils unsupervised. This resulted in less incidents and happy pupils. Further, on a daily basis, I supported the teacher to provide parents and stakeholders with information on the learners, this kept all aware and supporting the events that affect the pupils. Parents felt respected and involved in the matters of their children. This enabled them share information with the teacher which helped me as a Teaching assistant provide an enabling person centred support which increased the self worth of the learners due to greater independence.
At Aggrey Memorial, I made science relevant to my students by pointing out the life applications of the concepts under study. I also used local examples wherever possible. I used outings and field trips to augment the class activities and laboratory work. This made the study of Sciences enjoyable for the students. I am therefore skilled at engaging my students with the Natural world and so generating in them interest and excitement in Science as well as an awareness of the environment. This led to more students opting to do Science. I am accomplished at planning well in advance with stakeholders and requisitioning materials that I would need in good time. I ensured safety in the laboratory by testing out apparatus to ensure its working and to determine how long an activity would take. Also, I prepared pupils in advance with tutorials before any laboratory activity. I crafted my own test Items that were valid and reliable when required.
At Aggrey Memorial I had responsibility for a Final Year Mixed Class of boys and girls. I met them once a year to provide guidance and counselling services. Topics discussed were topics put forward by the students such as work in the community after school and understanding puberty and where to get help when bullied or having difficulty studying.
There has often arisen the need to provide personal care particularly for wheel chair users. Having received training for this with Creative Support in the use of hoisting equipment, I routinely support students with personal care needs in a safe manner that takes the privacy and other preferences of the individual into account this empowered the students to study in dignity and with enjoyment. Parents are also happy to find out that the learning environment is not only stimulating for work but also clean.

I am continually learning skills of boosting pupils' self esteem, confidence and independence. This has been achieved by relating new learning tasks to previous knowledge of the children. In supporting teaching, I simplify communication by the use of PECS and frequent repetition of words and short phrases rather than long sentences .The use of a variety of approaches to reach out to pupils has effectively helped diffuse many problematic situations and protected children from undue stress or harm. In this respect, I have used fun and humour to de-escalate pupils or gain the attention of learners as much as the use of physical intervention strategies. I have helped pupils who have difficulty communicating their needs make their choices known. This was achieved by the provision of choices or alternatives or time-outs for reflection. This I found has improved behaviour as children demanded choice and engaged in sharing with support rather than opting to fight or cry in desperation. My experiences at the Hackney Community School have enriched my insights into strategies of inclusion and integration of pupils with Special educational Needs SEN in mainstream schools. In addition to English, I speak and write German and a Ghanaian language.

I learn new tasks quickly and love to teach. I value working in an environment where integrity, inspiration, inclusion, innovation and involvement count. Having read my Master in Business Administration, wealth creation and stimulating learners to create ideas for new business innovation inspired by Science is foremost in my mind and makes me unique. I would be happy to engage students in discussions about small scale enterprise development. I look forward to taking on some extracurricular responsibilities as well as pastoral duties that may involve student behaviour management and providing guidance and counselling to students on Health and Safety and being Happy. I am passionate about student project work using the Scientific Method. Being a fit sportsman I can coach a football team. Also, I will bring hard work and perseverance to bear in working as a tutor.
St. Augustine's College, alma mater, is a Boarding school; I can therefore empathise and understand student life and needs in such a setting. I would therefore be promoting the good health, the safety and wellbeing of all students. I have an eye of unearthing hidden capabilities in my learners and preparing them with skills for life and work after school.

Tutoring Approach:

I adopt a student centered approach to teaching. This implies what the student has to say or already knows is important! This gives me a foundation to build on.
I probe learners previous knowledge extensively and plan further learning around these. I use testing , hands on work and activities to determine the understanding or level at which my students are performing. I endeavor to make the learning experience fun for the learner and enjoyable; working from the known and familiar facts to the unknown.
Whenever possible, I employ a Constructivist methodology of teaching to enable my learners apply knowledge to different facts ie. solving problems independently.
I use discussions widely and in my class the pupil is King.

Personal Description:
Graduate of accounts and economics, with other main subjects -- english, geography, business studies.
Very passionate about imparting education, specialize in teaching english, maths (algebra and geometry), biology, chemistry at all levels upto gcse.
Significant knowledge of teaching 11+ entrance exams which are verbal and non verbal reasoning.
Expertise in business studies projects, anthology (comparisons of literature and poems)

Parents have certified my teaching skills and most of my tutees having bagged A grades, have progressed in the most prominent universities.

I believe in going more than an extra mile to encourage children.

THEIR ACHIEVEMENT IS MY SUCCESS.

Teaching Experience:

More than 19 years teaching both the primary and secondary pupils.

Have taught in various schools, both private and state maintained, tutored privately to pupils from various multi cultural backgrounds. Worked as a Teaching Assistant in special needs schools.

A vast knowledge of 11+ entrance exams which means teaching verbal and non verbal reasoning power. Many have mastered the art of solving maths in a minute whether equations, fractions, algebra or mental maths.

English is tutored by me which includes preparing students for GCSEs exams -- which means imparting fluent writing skills, cambridge grammar, character sketch, Shakespeare's work, Literature and Anthology (comparing poems) and helping with course work.

Students have successfully mastered interview skills through me, and gained foot hold in private schools without any tensions.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is completely different : I believe all children are blessed, and as a tutor, my success lies in tapping their potential by changing their weaknesses into strengths.

This means, I am very patient, punctual, consistent and professional.

Motivation, inspiration, appreciation and constant appraisals are the key to capture the minds of children.

Children have learnt to calculate maths without the use of calculators, thereby using their brain power, solving mentally, and being faster.

Practice makes a man perfect ----- I give pupils thorough practice and past papers to solve, before sitting for the exams.
Further, I also teach them how to attempt exam questions, how to check their maths answers and succeed with confidence.

I also mark their printed text books used in schools, making lessons easier to understand, highlighting questions and answers, give reasons, fill in the gaps, true or false etc. that appear in their exam papers. This makes learning, memorizing and preparation for exams very very simple without tensions.

STUDENTS COMING TO MY PLACE FOR LESSONS IS PREFERABLE.....HOWEVER........
HOME VISITS ARE ALSO UNDERTAKEN AT AN EXTRA TRAVEL SUPPLEMENT.

Personal Description:
Hello! My name is Soraya and I am currently an final year undergraduate at Oxford Brookes University studying BSc (Hons) Psychology. I am extremely passionate about psychology and so far I am achieving high 2:1s and first class grades as not only do I love the set modules for my course but also reading around the subject. As well as psychology, I have experience in mathematics as it is used a lot throughout my course and I have also gained previous experience teaching maths to GCSE level, as well as English Literature which I also enjoy. In my spare time, I love to bake various things from carrot cakes to plaited loaves and I also love singing which I have gained a Grade 8 in.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently working at a school in Kidlington, Oxford as part of the Rising Leader Programme. I am developing key professional skills (Communication, Project Management, Leadership, Problem Solving) which are helping me to deliver good tuition to GCSE Science students who are struggling to achieve a higher grade (C and above). Furthermore, I am volunteering at Little Troopers Day Nursery in Oxford as a nursery assistant to children between the ages of 2 and 5. In these weekly sessions, I plan activities which are tailored to each child whether they have additional learning needs or not e.g. autistic children. I also supervise their playtime and give them support to develop their skills and abilities for their appropriate age group. In the past, I have volunteered at Longford Park Primary School, Coventry as a voluntary assistant to primary school children. This experience took part in June, 2012 during an "Arts through the Ages" themed week where I planned a lesson on Scrapbooking and taught it independently to a Year 5 class with various levels of ability. I also helped teachers to plan their activities during the week and assisted children with lower levels of ability to help them achieve their full potential in terms of art/creativity; I tremendously enjoyed this! I have also volunteered at a school in Coventry (Bablake Junior School) in August 2011 in the Tutor2Shine programme which helps build children's confidence, learning, independence and social skills. I engaged with children to improve their numeracy and literacy skills and helped to prepare them for their upcoming entrance examinations.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring would involve incorporating my current knowledge of a particular subject with a child's needs as well as interests, for example applying a topic within a subject to their hobbies/interests to help them engage more. The initial meeting would involve identifying the child's interests, both subject-wise and hobby-wise, along with their strengths to build upon as well as weaknesses to improve on in a subject area. The approach would vary with age, however I believe that all ages should incorporate a lot of interaction into their studies in order to help their memory and engagement with the topic as well as working from books and textbooks; I hope that I will be able to enhance and encourage skills that are not focused on as much in the classroom due to time constraints etc. For English students, I would be happy to read any material prior to tutoring so I have a good awareness of what they are studying.

Personal Description:
I'm a physics student studying at Imperial College London (NOTE - currently at home in Cardiff for the summer holidays, back in London from October) entering second year having achieved a first class grade in my first year. Alongside my physics studies, I'm an active musician - a member of the Cardiff County Youth Orchestra, Imperial College Big Band and Imperial College Symphony Orchestra - and an aspiring programmer - currently learning Python but intending to make a start on C before the new academic year.

Teaching Experience:

Throughout sixth form, I tutored local secondary and primary school students privately, arranged official after-school revision sessions for GCSE students with my friends, partook in numeracy schemes for younger secondary school students requiring additional assistance and was required to present topics, such as energy wastage, to KS3 classes as part of the Welsh Baccalaureate (which I also passed but was unable to fit in the Qualifications section below). I'm also taking a Communicating Physics option this coming year at Imperial, which entails visiting and teaching in schools in London for a period of the year (while this isn't past experience, I feel it also is indicative of my continuing dedication to and enjoyment of sharing my understanding and passion for my subjects with younger students).

Tutoring Approach:

Understanding the subject is everything: I work to ensure that the student knows the subject as 'inside-out' as possible at their level, in order for them not only to understand the topics expected of them, but also for them to deal with any 'curveball' questions thrown their way during exams (which seperates the good students from the very good students).
