Personal Description:
A full member of the Tutors Association, I have much tuition, coaching and training experience; both one-to-one and in groups.
Holding several relevant academic qualifications (including a degree in Maths & Physics), I am also a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Scientist, full Corporate Member of the Institute of Physics.
During my career, I have held several senior management positions within several British based companies.
Having a fundamental love of virtually all things mathematical and scientific, I very much enjoy passing on this enthusiasm & knowledge to 'A' Level students, with the aim of enhancing their skills & boosting examination performance.
I hold full and current enhanced DBS accreditation.

Teaching Experience:

I have been offering 'A' Level tuition in Maths & Physics since 1997
The vast majority of students with whom I have worked have either achieved, or surpassed, their target grades.
During the last academic year (2013/2014)) I was pleased to work regularly (typically weekly) with fourteen 'A' Level Maths students, three 'A' Level Physics students, one student studying Electrical Engineering, and one studying Maths with the Open University.

Tutoring Approach:

Being an active participant in, and supporter of, the whole education process, I have also held a four year LEA Governorship at a school in mid-Devon.
My approach to tutoring is, first of all, to talk openly with any potential student (ideally with parent or guardian present) in order to find out what is required, the problems, issues etc.
I treat all students as adults, and do not patronise or talk down to them, ie I treat each one as a mature individual. My aim is to work closely with each student, in the way that best suits him/her, in order to empower him/her with higher levels of knowledge and ability. The result being that their confidence and skill levels increase to those necessary to achieve the best possible exam grades. I encourage my students to actively participate in the tutoring process; to challenge, and to ask questions and discuss all aspects of the work content.
I coach all my students in exam techniques, with emphasis on layout, showing working, best use of time etc.
Last, but certainly not least, I believe it to be of fundamental importance to work with all my students in complete confidence; before, during and after any tutoring involvement.

Personal Description:
Originally from Newcastle, I am now an actor and enjoy tutoring alongside my acting work. I have worked in TV, and also in theatre, including venues such as The National Theatre and the West End. Especially with younger students, I like to keep my lessons creative and practical. I studied English and Drama at Bristol University and then went on to train at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Recently, I have been tutoring in English, Drama, 11+ Common Entrance exams and general Primary school help.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for over 6 years. Alongside my tutoring, I am currently teaching Music and Drama in schools and I run workshops with Sixth Formers on ways of analysing texts practically.

7+ - I worked with Elektra (6) preparing her for 7+ Examinations. Covering English, Maths and Reasoning focussed on entry to Notting Hill and Ealing High School.

7+ - Working with Harry on English, Maths and exam technique, focussing him for 7+ exam for Dulwich Prep School. Harry has traits of both dyslexia and dyspraxia.

7+ - I work with Jules on his English. Jules is French and has just started attending a French school, so we are working to keep his English up to scratch. Main areas of focus are: speaking, spelling, listening/understanding and grammar.

7+ - Working with Charlie mainly on English, increasing his confidence in all areas but focussing on Writing, Grammar and Punctuation, and Comprehension.

11+ - Working with Guy on English and Maths one day a week. Mainly focussed on Guy's writing and spelling. Guy is preparing for entry to Westminster and Eton Schools.

11+ - I worked with Ingrid on English and Maths in preparation for exams for Notting Hill and Ealing High School, Francis Holland and Godolphin and Latymer Schools. Ingrid went to her first choice of Notting Hill and Ealing High.

11+ - I worked with Olivia in preparation for her Common Entrance exams on all papers (English, Maths, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning) as well as interview practice. Olivia is now attending North London Collegiate School (her first choice) but I also prepared her for entrance to Highgate School for Girls, City of London School for Girls and Queen's College.

Primary Help - I worked with brothers Teddy (7) and Alfie (10) mainly on English and Maths but also across all subjects generally to improve knowledge, confidence, spelling and vocabulary.

Primary Help - I worked with Rohan (10) on improving his confidence and basic skills in English and Maths. Rohan was very inquisitive and keen but needed help focussing and answering the specific questions that he was being asked.

A Level English Literature (AQA) - worked with Oliver (17) helping with coursework on The Great Gatsby and the poetry of Keats and Larkin. Oliver achieved an A grade.

AS Level Drama (AQA) - helped Yasmin to explore the analysis of texts of Lady Windermere's Fan and A View From The Bridge in preparation for exams, in which she achieved an A.

GCSE English Literature - tutored Amy in preparation for coursework and exams. Texts: Lord of The Flies and A View From The Bridge.

Home Schooling - Inigo (6 when I started) had been getting reports of generally dropping behind in class work with a lack of concentration. I homeschooled him every Friday for two terms. He was having particular trouble in English and Maths. Inigo was struggling especially with English, in all areas, and was most behind with Spelling and Grammar. For him to engage, I had to be both creative (to keep him interested) but also quick as the plan was to get him into Kew Green Primary for the next academic year. We covered the basics of year 1 and ironed out any problems (also to give him confidence with the things he could do) and then went onto year 2. I would use a lot of what he was naturally interested in (football and particular comic book characters) in the teaching to keep his attention. With Maths, Inigo could do simple addition and subtraction but struggled when getting into 2 digits, multiplication, or any sort of wordy problem where the sum to be done was not absolutely clear. So, again, we covered the basics and then pushed on. He worked really hard and eventually we were looking forward to things he may encounter next year. At first Inigo was quite reluctant to work but I managed to win him over and build up a good rapport for productive days of homeschooling. Thankfully, he gained a place at Kew Green, and we were delighted! (Though it did mean, unfortunately, that he didn't need me any more...).

English for Foreign Learners - Helped 8 year old Augustinos (Greek) with reading and homework to improve English, as well as taking him on educational trips around London.

Drama (practical) - Coached Emily (21) and Hannah (20) with acting lessons in preparation for Drama School Entry auditions. Emily has now trained at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and Hannah is training at LAMDA.

Voice and Elocution - Helped Law Student Amar (20) with speechmaking and projection for use in debating.

SEN - worked with Dean (20), a law student with dyslexia, upon exam preparation and practice.

Tutoring Approach:

I will tailor whatever I teach to my pupil's needs. I am very easy to get along with and very open to how you think you or your child will best learn. Above all I would want a pupil to look forward to my sessions with them so will make sure that they are practical, interesting and varied. Especially with the younger students I teach I think that lessons need to be fun to keep them excited about learning! If you have any questions at all or specific enquiries, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Personal Description:
I am a first class physics graduate from Lancaster University, now living in York. I am an avid cyclist and due to my background in both applied physics and engineering, I am starting off a business in building bamboo bicycle frames. On top of that I constantly deal with everyday mathematics and physics, so I constantly sharpening my skills in teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I first started tutoring about 2 years ago when I helped my friend's daughter in GCSE physics. The student had trouble understanding the basics behind most of the general physics which the teachers in school go through quickly without realising that everyone has different way of learning. I approached the student with a different point of view and quickly understood her level of understanding. It made me realise that I was in similar situation when I was in school and it was impossible to avoid getting low grades because I received no individual attention from my teacher. I tutored for 6 weeks and her grades went up from D to B. I hope that this information helps parents to understand the difficult situation that some children find themselves in when their learning level is different to others, so outside tutoring always improves confidence and understanding in weak subjects.

Since 2009 I have taught a number of students and remarkably they have all scored better grades after just few lessons. I have taught students who speak different languages and I didn't find it difficult to communicate with them either. Every student is different and I teach every student differently so have never heard a bad review from anyone so far.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is straight forward and simple. I try to understand each student and learn about their weaknesses and strengths early on. This gives me enough information to start with and the student also feels relieved knowing that I understand their difficulties with the subject.

At start I go through problems which the student finds easy to tackle, helping them to build confidence and then slowly I merge difficult problems (different for each individual) into my lessons. This tactic never fails to work as the student is always learning something new starting from the day one.

My explanation of the problems relates to everyday physics and maths that one goes through. Making it simple for the student to understand and relate to. Lastly I am very flexible with time and travel so I am almost always ready to teach.

Personal Description:
Feedback from my previous students:

1) "Usama tutored our son between March and June 2012. We found Usama to be highly professional, knowledgable and reliable. Our son`s final A level grade increased from a D to a B and the subject area that Usama specifically taught the final grade was an A. We would strongly recommend Usama as a tutor"

2) "Having Usama as a tutor has allowed me to make acheievable targets, and he enables me to learn at my own pace. He has helped me gain confidence in both AS Chemistry and Biology and his easy-going nature makes the lessons enjoyable and interesting"

My Profile:

I graduated in 2010 with a 2:1 in BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences from University College London (UCL). My undergraduate research work has been chosen for publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

I am now in the third year of the Postgraduate Dentistry course at UCLan. I achieved the joint highest mark in my first year of Dentistry. I am very friendly, approachable and understanding. I have very strong communication skills, strengthened further by my clinical experience from working with patients of all ages and learning capacities.

I like learning new languages and can speak elementary Mandarin. I love travelling and have a great interest in outdoor activities.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently tutoring students in Lancaster. My two A level Biology students achieved three grade improvements from D to A and U to C in this Summer's exams. I am determined to build up on this very encouraging outcome.

Before moving to the North West, I have taught students in London including younger students in my family and the local area in London and they are now studying at top ranking London Universities.

Tutoring Approach:

I start by assessing the current level of understanding of the student. I agree a personalised plan and ways of assessing progress with the student. I ask students which method is most suitable for them and proceed accordingly.

I prepare my lessons for the agreed topics to keep the sessions objective and formulate examples and demonstrations to make them interesting.

I believe in understanding concepts, so that any questions or problems can then be put into context. Near exam time, I go through the same concepts again to ensure understanding and practice by using past exam papers.

Personal Description:
I am a recently graduated MSc(Hons) student in Mathematics with Merit, before which I graduated with a 1st class honours in Pure Mathematics, and received an honorary award from the IMA, which are awarded to the top 200 Mathematics graduates in the UK.

I am 25, fully CRB checked, and a member of STEMnet (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics network), as well as being An associate member of the IMA (Institute of Mathematics and its Applications).

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring around the West Midlands for over 3 years, and all parents / tutees who I have supplied private tutoring to are happy to recommend / provide references should you wish to seek clarification, on the quality of tutoring I am able to provide.

All students I have tutored have seen an increase in grades over the time I have worked with them, with an average improvement of 1 and a half grades!

I am happy to also offer a free first half session in order to gauge a students requirements, as sometimes parents aren't aware of this.

Caistor Grammar School - Class assistant for lower years, whilst completing 6th form
Year 2007/8

N.E.W Academy - Cover Supervisor and Academic Coach
Years 2009/10 and 2010/11

Self Employed - Private Tutor
2012 till present

Tutoring Approach:

I will provide materials, course guides, and encourage young students to be creative in their methods of tackling problems. I have lots of experience with working with students from the E/U borderline-category all the way up to A/A* candidates.

From the Ages of 14 onwards (Year 9+) I teach all subjects from scratch, with a view to proving why concepts exist and introduce topics from first principles. This I believe will improve retention, help pupils understand concepts better, and also allow them to remember test questions better - It really does work!

Where parents request extra work, I can provide monthly progress sheets, homework tasks, and an extensive list of past papers. Pupils are also encouraged to not just tackle past papers, but to try and understand how papers are conceived, helping them prepare for the unexpected, should it arise in their relevant exams.

Personal Description:
I have graduated with a first class degree in engineering from Oxford University. Throughout the course, I undertook a wide range of topics from maths and electronics to biomedical and aero-thermal engineering. Subsequently, I joined 'Entrepreneur First' - a government-backed programme to help exceptional graduates start businesses. I co-founded 'SpeakSet' - a business to help combat loneliness and isolation in old age. My strong grounding in maths and the sciences not only drives me to tutoring part time but genuinely excites me!
I am passionate about music and have played guitar, bass and sung in 4 bands at university. I enjoy recording, mixing and mastering and have been doing so for eight years. I have captained my college squash team and enjoy cricket. I have a keen interest in cars and have spent a summer working in 'McLaren Automotive' as a vehicle dynamics engineer.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring through UK Tutors since summer 2012. I have plenty of experience in and regularly teach GCSE and A-Level Maths, Physics and Chemistry. Additionally, I have experience tutoring peers at university and relatives in Maths/Physics/Chemistry/Biology.

Tutoring Approach:

The best way to grasp a topic or concept is to break it down into its smallest components and gain a real understanding of the basics. In this way, it becomes easier to build up to the more complicated topics. This solid foundation doesn't just help with the problems at hand but helps to prepare for the long term too.
Exam technique is also crucial and so, we will spend time concentrating on how to approach papers.
I am always well prepared for lessons and feel that I make difficult topics stimulating and interesting.

Personal Description:
I completed my A-levels in a year and was thus able to graduate from medical school as the youngest doctor in the university's recent history. In order to achieve the above I tried and tested a variety of techniques as well as revision materials which I have now perfected over the past few years. Being a doctor, I am very patient and friendly and I never judge anyone, my only aim is to offer my help to anyone who needs it. I have also had the privilege of interviewing potential medical students and am thus well experienced with helping with interviews for medical school.

Teaching Experience:

In high school I tutored fellow students with their GCSE's - I mainly tutored in English and Biology. I did group as well as individual tutoring and so have experience in helping any number of students at one time.

For the past 2 years I have helped university students attain their targets both with medical school exams general coursework. I am proud to say that I have always received positive feedback. Moreover, the South Thames Foundation School recently awarded me with a prestigious merit for teaching - a merit reserved for doctors who give up their personal time to help medical students attain their goals whilst at medical school.

Tutoring Approach:

I usually start off with a short questionnaire to understand your requirements and to recognise your strengths and weaknesses so that we do not waste time going through material you are familiar with. I then usually break down all the materials into small steps which we would go through in a systematic fashion. Whichever step you do not understand, I will use various approaches to ensure you are entirely comfortable before we move on.

I am a firm believer in ensuring that the foundation of knowledge is strong before endeavouring to understand the more intricate and detailed aspects of any subject. Therefore I will always make sure you understand the basics of whichever subject you are struggling with and this usually makes a massive difference with regard to future and more detailed understanding.

Personal Description:
I have finished my maths degree and have decided that tutoring is the path I'd like to be on. I love working with children/elder students to help them achieve the best that they can. I am very easy to get on with and am passionate about teaching.
I am a math tutor for primary, ks3, GCSE and A level maths.

Teaching Experience:

I have done work experience at a nursery school, I have done voluntary work at a youth club, I have had experience being a classroom assistant in a secondary school.
I have helped friends and family in passing their gcse and a level exams in maths.
I have tutored around 25 students ages ranging from 4 to 24 and have references if you would like their feedback.

Tutoring Approach:

I go through the maths topics one by one. I explain a topic thoroughly, then give the student example questions, talk them through it and this usually results in their confidence growing about the topic. I make sure the student undertands everything before moving on. Lots of example questions help, maths is a subject that needs to be practiced, not read.
I make my own lesson plans so that I can personalise them for every student.

My name's Tom, and I'm looking to tutor GCSE and A-Level Maths and Physics. I'm in my third year at Imperial College studying Engineering, and in my free time I enjoy playing guitar, cycling and getting involved with societies.

Teaching Experience:

During college I enjoyed helping my class-mates understand difficult topics in Maths and Physics. During out-of-class study, I would explain difficult concepts that were not understood fully in class and walk through the process of solving problems.

Tutoring Approach:

-Check which topics you find challenging
-Check what you currently understand about the topic
-Give a walk-through of the theory, discussing points in a relaxed but focused way
-Apply the theory to some problems/exam questions

I am a patient person, and I work hard to find ways of explaining difficult ideas in an understandable way.

Personal Description:
Hi there,

I'm Alan, I'm an Engineering manager with Siemens, I'm married and live in a lovely part of the Hampshire countryside.

Apart from work, I spend a lot of time cycling and walking the nearby parks and hills.

Teaching Experience:

I've been tutoring for 5 years now, and I am trained as a trainer through work, so I've taught both adults and students. I used to run a training team as part of my last job, and understand a lot about different teaching and learning styles.

Since tutoring I've mostly taught 16 and upwards, physics and maths, and occasionally the odd other question!

Tutoring Approach:

My aim is to make the teaching as simple as possible, and let the student work it out themselves with me providing guidance where need be. Physics, and maths in particular, can be daunting - many people just want to get a good grade and move on, which I understand completely, I'm not going to make you love the subjects but help you get to where you want to be.

Paul MEd, MSc, PGCE, BA, BSc, HNC IfL (fellow) Clear "extended" DBS (CRB) check - 24 July 2013

My PGCE at York University was for secondary school mathematics but I negotiated with my training-provider that I be allowed to gain experience teaching ICT too. As regards teaching practice the course was arranged so that in the first term, from half term onwards, I taught at All Saints School York for three days a week. During the second term, which was our main teaching practice, I went to St John's School, Harrogate. Here I gained experience teaching Mathematics at all levels including A-Level. I also taught ICT including Spreadsheets, Databases, Word-processing, programming with logo. I remember Easter 2000 was very late and all the teachers at St. John's were exhausted by the end of that very long Easter term. For the third term I returned to the same school as in the first term. Here I taught foundation tier GCSE students, more ICT (database and spreadsheets and mathematics to science students). In July 2000 I received my PGCE certificate. I have extensive experience of teaching in schools and FE colleges and I am a member (fellow) of the professional body:- IfL (Institute for Learning).
I also have a Masters degree in Software development, Masters in Education, BA in Mathematics, BSc in Science, HNC Electronics, etc.

Teaching Experience:

Subjects I teach / have taught:
Systems Analysis; Problem Solving (using mainly mathematical tools to solve computing problems); C++ programming; Java programming; Visual Basic programming; Database design and Implementation; Game design and Implementation; Digital Graphics; HNC Computing Systems Analysis and Programming; HNC/D "Business Decision Taking"; BTEC Level 2 IT Practitioners course units; BTEC Level 1 Introductory Cert for IT@work course units (and at various times I was Course tutor for each of these two BTEC courses); Functional Skills - Mathematics and ICT; GCSE - Mathematics and ICT.

I have a Clear "extended" DBS (CRB) check - 24 July 2013

Tutoring Approach:

My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence in tackling mathematical problems. After instilling the 'basics', I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect my student's understanding and technique.

Personal Description:
Hi I'm Meghavi and I am currently in my third year at Imperial College London studying BSc Physics. Currently, I am training to become a teacher alongside my Physics degree. I will have a QTS (Qualified Teaching Status) by the end of 2015. I have always been interested in teaching, from my GCSE years, I began helping my friends with their school work. Moving to A level years I started helping out some of the teachers in my school to run after school sessions to help kids with their Homework. I would say I am very patient and will sit there till the concept is clear in their minds. I am not the kind of person who gives up easily so I will do what it takes to make sure an idea or concept is understood. As a person I am very friendly and bubbly. I like to have a good laugh and I'm a good listener.

As far as personal interests go; I love to travel, I love music, movies and Food. I enjoy cooking. I like trying out new things and exploring new places and meeting new people.

Teaching Experience:

My interest in teaching began when I started helping my sister with her school work. I started teaching in 2009. I worked at Kumon (one of UK's largest supplementary education provider) for a year. I then started tutoring AS Students for AS Physics at Lampton School which involved spending my free lessons and after school sessions to help them with any conceptual problems, homework, exam practice or just a recap of any topic in AS Physics. These students felt comfortable coming up to me at any time during or after school to ask any queries they had about the subject. (References Available)

I have helped out in Maths classes and planned my own lessons under the supervision of my teacher. I have also worked as a learning mentor at Lampton School and helped students with any homework or classwork in various subjects.

More recently (2013 - 2014) I have been a tutor for various students; teaching A Level Physics, A Level Maths and Further Maths, GCSE Maths, Primary Maths and GCSE Science (Biology Chemistry and Physics all inc).

Tutoring Approach:

Clearly each student is different, and so the way of teaching each one will be different. However I believe that if the foundation is strong nothing can go wrong. I will first try to ensure that the concept and the base of the subject is strong before we go on to a number of past paper questions and exercises. I believe that the best way to learn is to see how any problem can be tackled, go through the thought process and then apply what you know to the specific problem and solve it.

I will first see what the student finds most difficult and what their weaknesses are and then strive to overcome them. Each student will have their own learning methods, some may learn by understanding the whole concept then going into the exam questions, some want to go through exam questions while they are learning the concept to see how the theory can be applied to the problems. Some may learn visually with experiments or examples whereas others will learn through trial and improvement of their own. I will spend the first session finding out how they like to learn and design a program just right for that individual student.

From previous experiences I believe the key areas students need help in are:
- learning the foundation of the subject
- how to manage time in exams
- how to structure their answers in an exam
- lots and lots of practice
Hopefully once we start tutoring, the students will feel much more confident with the subject and the key to success for any exam is self confidence. I will always be their as a guide, a mentor, a friend to help them through what they find difficult.

Personal Description:
Hello there! Firstly, thank you for checking out my profile. I am currently a teaching assistant at a primary school. I have a BA (Hons) in Egyptology and Ancient History and I am undertaking my MA in Egyptian Archaeology at UCL in September 2014. I offer a range of tutoring sessions from primary age up to University dependent on subject. I am friendly, personable and hard working. I am a great motivator!

Teaching Experience:

I have worked at a school for over three years and during this time have covered classes a lot for teacher absence and PPA time. I have also been seen by an Ofsted inspector teaching a whole class maths session, despite not being a teacher, and was graded as outstanding and it was recommended I pursue my teaching. I plan on becoming a University lecturer, pursuing my PhD upon completion of my masters. I value education and academia and I feel this is a really important factor I enthusiastically pass on to my pupils. I have planned and led one to one interventions and group work and have always seen a vast improvement in attainment levels. Mostly, I am patient and understanding.

Tutoring Approach:

Hands on learning, a fun approach with all the necessary fine tuning and eye for detail that we need. While I am tutoring we are a team that can tackle problems together!

Teaching Experience:

I have a one year experience of teaching post-graduation students in my home University (Delhi University). I was the supervisor for laboratory classes in Electromagnetics and Optical Electronics.

Apart from that I have an experience of giving science tuitions to students of age 14-15.

I am National Eligibility Test (NET) qualified in Electronics which gives makes me eligible to teach at the universities in my home country.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach for teaching helps the student to understand the concepts logically and I use examples of situations whenever possible to help the child learn creatively. Using such a methodology helps the child remember things in the long run and also makes the class more intersting for him or her.
I like to focus more on practice during the class and after the class to help the child remember things longer. The amount of practice needed depends on the learning capability of the student.
