Personal Description:
Although I now have a PGCE in mathematics I have been lucky enough to get the chance to apply my skills in maths and physics whilst working as an engineer in the automotive and white goods industries. It gave me the opportunity to travel abroad and to get involved with companies such as Dyson, Jaguar, Austin Martin and then even allowed me to watch rockets being built in Russia.
I trained engineers and factory workers in the use of mathematical and physics based subjects. Some of those I taught had jobs which involved predominantly manual skills and so they were a little rusty when applying mathematical techniques. This makes me appreciate the nervousness some adults have when presented with a subject they may not have touched since leaving school.
After leaving the engineering world I had a brief spell working as a trainer in the insurance arena and then finally ended up teaching mathematics in secondary schools.

Teaching Experience:

I worked as a manufacturing engineer for 8 years and then I taught engineers and factory workers for 10 years in the use of techniques involving mathematics and physics. After leaving the engineering world I trained adults to use a mainframe software program and then I went on to become a secondary school mathematics teacher. Finally I started tutoring from home working with various types of pupils. Some pupils have special needs, whilst others are working towards an A grade in their A levels.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to know why the tutee wishes to study. It may be to improve their confidence or to pass an exam. This will then shape the nature of the tutoring sessions. My focus is to provide people with the knowledge that is most useful to them and their aspirations.

Personal Description:
I have been a teacher for more than thirty years. I was a university lecturer and private tutor in Hungary and I continued teaching as a tutor when I came to England. I am passionate about teaching; helping pupils improve is very important to me.

Teaching Experience:

A few years ago I was teaching drama at different levels, as well as English literature and language. I started teaching Maths for younger children when I came to England. I also marked theses in Literature as a lecturer and advised students on writing papers in Literature. I taught several courses; for example, Essay writing, Language skills, Communication skills and Drama and Theatre. I based my drama lessons on my experiences as a Fulbright scholar at the Drama Department at the University of Oregon, USA.
I am especially enthusiastic about helping students with their essays; teaching them how to find focus and express their ideas precisely and coherently; organise and proofread their work; how to write a good introduction and conclusion.
Pupils I have taught have been admitted to Wolverhampton Girls' High School, Wolverhampton Grammar School and Chase Academy.

Tutoring Approach:

I am an extremely patient teacher. I have helped children and adults of different ages to achieve their goals. In my opinion anyone can improve; the teacher's role is essential in the process. It is my responsibility to understand individual needs and to make sure that I create the best learning environment both physically and psychologically.
I am friendly and strict at the same time.
It is very important to tailor lessons to individual needs. My main priority is to find the best way to help the student improve. Motivating them can take different forms: encouragement, gentle pressure, being more strict and so on. Every student is different; it is my responsibility to find the best approach.

Personal Description:
I recently graduated from Oxford University (Christ Church) with a BA (Hons) in History of Art, and am now reading for an MA in History of Art at the Courtauld Institute. Aside from studying I am learning Italian, enjoy playing piano and keeping up to date with current exhibitions, plays and concerts. I travel as widely as possible and enjoy enriching my academic work with the unique experiences and case studies such travel may afford.

Teaching Experience:

Since August this year I have been tutoring a number of clients in London at KS3 and GCSE level, in English, Sciences and Mathematics.
Additionally, during my A Level year I tutored of GCSE students, gaining a 100% A -C pass rate.

Tutoring Approach:

Having attended some of the most academically intensive institutions in the country, I am well suited to provide academic support and guidance to those wishing to improve their achievement, from primary to degree level.
I believe that the role of a private tutor is to create a tailor made, interactive and stimulating environment in order to help students grow and explore within their subject. I believe instilling confidence is key to this approach - I am a patient, friendly and approachable tutor and work hard to encourage an atmosphere in which honest discussion and a lack of self consciousness when learning are paramount. I provide support for all aspects of learning, from discussing homework to improving core skills.

I am familiar with exam board requirements for each subject, and as a tutor work towards success in exams, but also towards a greater enrichment above and beyond curricula.

Personal Description:
My name is Chris , and I am a highly experienced tutor of Maths, English and 11+ entrance tuitions for selective schools. I teach Maths at all levels up to GSCE level, and English at all levels up to Key Stage 3 level.

I live in Devizes, Wiltshire.

I have been tutoring for 13 years, and have 24 written references from parents and I also have a Maths degree.

I have for much of those 13 years worked as a full-time tutor, and I use National Curriculum Resources for all my tuitions.

Teaching Experience:

During my 13 years as a tutor, I have taught students of all ages and abilities, and have literally taught 1000's of lessons- at times teaching as many as 29 hours of tuition in a week.

I have taught every type of student from those with Learning Disabilities to the Gifted & Talented.

I am constantly recommended by parents to other parents, and I have a proven track record of improving students' grades.
I also have resources and past papers , for 11+, SATS (English & Maths) and GSCE Maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a friendly person by nature , and I take this into my tuitions. I like to make my students feel at ease in the lessons , and that they have a tutor that they feel they can ask as many questions as they like.

I also believe in offering plenty of praise and encouragement to my students.

I follow the National Curriculum programme in my tutoring, to cover all aspects of the syllabus.

However, even if I have prepared a certain topic for a lesson, if the student then asks me to look over in a different topic, or wants me to help them with some school homework, then I am always flexible to do just that.

I also never move on to a new topic with a student, until I am happy that they have fully understood what I have been teaching.

My method of teaching is to teach a topic, and then set the student plenty of practice examples , to make sure they fully understand the topic.

Personal Description:
Hi,

I have recently graduated from UCL with a 1st-class degree majoring in Mathematics and I am currently looking for students to tutor.

As an individual who initially struggled to do well in maths during my early teens, I understand the difficulties that some may have with grasping abstract concepts in this subject. However, through my perseverance I learned how to effectively tackle problems that I initially viewed as being incomprehensible and complex. Now I am a competent mathematician who is passionate about helping others to enjoy the subject that many still fear.

Teaching Experience:

Teacher's Assistant: Woodhouse College, 2008
SATs Private Tutor: 2008
Teacher's Assistant: Wessex Gardens Primary School, 2007

Tutoring Approach:

Since I understand that everyone has a unique learning style and picks up information at different speeds, I prefer to help students in the most patient manner, while also encouraging them to push themselves.

I believe that patience is paramount when trying to help someone learn new concepts and ideas as this also enables one best tailor the most efficient teaching method.

Once I believe a student has grasped a new concept, I will then fortify their knowledge and make them more confident with it by setting them appropriately challenging questions.

Personal Description:
Hello there! My name is Tanyel and I am an undergraduate student at King's College London. I study BA French and Management and will be entering my second year in September.

I am available to tutor over the summer 2013 starting immediately, with a possibility of continuing this for when I am back at university.

Teaching Experience:

I have a wide range of tutoring experience. This originated from when I was in Sixth Form and developed a knack for explaining things to my classmates and friends. Since then, my enjoyment in tutoring has led me to be involved in two tutoring projects. This is both privately in my local area and also voluntarily, the latter being with my university and an organisation called Team Up ().

Tutoring Approach:

We would work through a main textbook (CGP range seems to work best) and I provide explanations in a clearer, more interactive manner to clarify understanding. I then set homework tasks based on what we have learnt. I can connect with all my students on a friendly level in this way, pausing to answer any questions, whilst ensuring progression and focus at all times. I have seen this approach work countless times in my experience. In some cases, students enjoy it so much they ask me to set them even more homework!

Personal Description:
I am 23 years old and have a Masters degree in Natural Sciences at University College London, specialising in Organic Chemistry and Pharmacology, for which I was awarded First Class Honours (80%). I am currently undertaking my PhD at Imperial College London in Synthetic Organic Chemistry. Having studied Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry Physics and Biology at A-Level, I feel that I will make an experienced tutor in these subject areas.

In my private time, I enjoy watching and playing rugby, road cycling and like to watch F1 racing. I also like to play the guitar, although this is something that I may need to get my own tutor for!

Teaching Experience:

I have been involved with tutorials at University College London and Imperial College London, helping teach the problem classes for First and Second year students. I am comfortable with children, young adults and adults of all ages. Having worked at a local leisure centre for over 5 years (in both Children's Activities and Lifeguarding roles), I have a wealthy experience in teaching and personal skills.

I have an advanced knowledge in tutoring UK A-level exam boards (OCR, Edexcel, AQA etc.), IB qualifications, AP qualifications and undergraduate/postgraduate studies. For some representative examples of my experience, please see below.

Kate - AS/A-Level Chemistry (OCR Exam Board) - Predicted a D, achieved a B overall including first year retakes.
Isabel - AP Chemistry (American system) - Scored a 4 overall.
Pooyan - Open University - Drug Design and Synthesis - Raised his module assignment scores from an average of 54% to 92%.
Gary - Experimental Therapeutics MSc Oxford University - Helped coach Gary towards winning a place on the Masters course at Oxford University from a background in law with no previous scientific knowledge.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel the student must work hard during sessions and nothing will come easy. However, it is with this attitude, the student will succeed and get the most out of the time he/she spends. I aim to encourage the student as much as possible during the sessions, and explain fully any sections the remain unclear.

I make myself available at all times of the day for communication and any short questions the student may have.

Personal Description:
I am 23 years old and have a Masters degree in Mathematics from University College London, specialising in fluid dynamics and applied mathematics, for which I was awarded Upper Second Class Honours (68%). I am currently on an accounting graduate scheme for a top financial services company in London. Having studied Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Geography at A-Level, I feel that I will make an experienced tutor in these subject areas. I am also able to impart drive, motivation and advise to enable students follow a successful path through academia and into a successful job.

Teaching Experience:

I have been involved with teaching throughout my education often teach my fellow students whilst studying together. I am comfortable with children, young adults and adults of all ages. I am flexible to teach all UK exam boards and will happily adapt to each students needs.

For some representative examples of my experience, please see below.

Mike - GCSE/AS/A level Mathematics - AQA - achieved three A A-levels and is studying a Edinburgh university.
Amy - GCSE/AS/A level Mathematics + GCSE Physics - achieved AAB and is studying at Cardiff university.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel myself and the student must work hard together during sessions and not everything will come easy. By working well together we can succeed and get the most out of the time he/she spends. I aim to encourage the student as much as possible during the sessions, and explain fully any sections the remain unclear.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught maths for many years, both at Primary and Secondary levels, including A level. I spent 10 years teaching maths at a large comprehensive school close to my home. I was fortunate enough to be head of department for a time and during that time the school and its pupils achieved their highest ever GCSE maths pass rate.

Personal Description:
Hi! My name is Maisie, I stay in the Paisley area and I currently studying for a Masters degree in Chemsitry at the University of Glasgow. My passion is science and as I have spent a long time studying it, I would love to be able to pass on my knowledge and experience to help students who are perhaps about to sit exams or just looking for extra practise to understand their subject better.

My studies take up a huge part of my life! But I still manage to fit in a part-time job and a few sessions at the gym each week. My favourite part of my course is getting to use the lab and scientific equipment, it's always great fun to carry out experiments and see the results! I am a member of the Institute of Physics and The Royal Society of Chemistry and spend much of my free time carrying out my own research using the extra resources and benefits membership provides and of course this is something that I would utilise during a tutorial session.

Teaching Experience:

Whilst I have had no formal teaching experience, I have studied various science subjects (chemistry, physics, maths and biology (and human biology)) up to university level and have always succeeded in these areas.

Teaching is something that I am considering as a career choice and so I would love to be able to gain some experience now by helping others succeed.

Tutoring Approach:

My focus would not just be on the material that is needing to be covered but how you feel about the subject as a whole, your strengths and weaknesses and what you enjoy about it the most. It's always so much easier to understand and study something that you enjoy!

Past papers are an important resource for any student but I have always found making use of the Internet and watching informative videos are a great way to learn! Plus I have many textbooks and notes that I have from my time studying that would be a great resource too!
