Personal Description:
I have Special Needs University qualifications and counseling skills, which enables me to tutor students that may encounter emotional difficulties in their learning. I believe that motivation is the key factor to tutoring, as it needs to be addressed continuously in the process of learning.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a private tutor for the past 14 years preparing students for +11, +13 exams in English and Maths. I also teach Maths up to A level.

I am a certified therapist in PhonoGraphix method for addressing spelling and reading difficulties both for children and adults.

I could also help with learning computers (ECDL syllabus including usage of Word, PowerPoint, Internet, Excel).

Tutoring Approach:

I have Special Needs University qualifications and counselling skills, which enables me to tutor students that may encounter emotional difficulties in their learning. I believe that motivation is the key factor to tutoring, as it needs to be addressed continuously in the process of learning.

As a tutor, I encourage my students to reflect upon their mistakes and to understand how to tackle the next step of their learning, without having a negative response.

I usually have the first lesson together with the parents so that the student feels comfortable and parents can observe my teaching; I present a folder containing the CRB form, qualifications, QTS certificate and letters of recommendations from parents. I teach from home in a calm and stimulating environment.
The first lesson is only paid if the parent decides to continue tuition.

Personal Description:
I recently graduated from Oxford University, with a masters (Meng) in engineering science. I took my A levels in 2007 in Physics, Maths, Further maths and Economics, achieving grade A in all. I am very familiar with the sort of study patterns and techniques that are required by students in their preperation for these exams. I am friendly, helpful and very patient when it comes to teaching on a one to one basis.

Teaching Experience:

I was involved with the mentoring scheme that my college offered. This involved me having to meet with individual students in order to help and advise them with their school work. This experience helped me become more aware of the different methods and approaches needed for individual students. I also have two younger brothers studying for their GCSE's/A-levels who I regularly help out with their academic work.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to break down the topic into small managable chunks and to take the student step by step through the material. I am focused with teaching the student key exam techniques and vital steps that are needed in preperation for them. I am focused with covering material in a thorough but efficient way, as well as making use of exam past papers which hold the key to breaking down nervousness and exam fright.

Personal Description:
My name is Ed. I recently graduated from Durham University with 1st class honours in Maths and Physics. I achieved straight A result with six A-levels including Maths, Further Maths, German, Physics, Chemistry and Chinese. I am an experienced tutor and have previously tutored students from a variety of schools and institutions. I am very patient and my primary focus is to help you achieve your goals and objectives.

Please contact me for further enquiries. I can provide you references upon request.

Teaching Experience:

Private Tutor at Bonas Macfarlane, London, July 2010 - Present
I tutor a variety of subjects at different levels from primary schools to A-levels. I teach Maths, Physics, Chemistry, German and Chinese. I also offer service on giving academic advice as well as interview techniques for entering into top schools and universities in the UK.

University Marker, Department of Mathematics, Durham University, October 2009 - May 2010
I mentored second year Maths undergraduates at Durham University. I have learned to work through the arguments and thought processes of others and give constructive feedback.

Sixth Form Tutor, Framwellgate Sixth Form College, Durham, October 2006 - June 2009
I tutored Maths (GCSE, A-Level), Chemistry (GCSE, A-level), German (GCSE, A-Level) and Chinese (GCSE, A-Level) at Durham Framwellgate Sixth Form College for three years. I helped all of my tutees achieve more than what they were initially targeting to achieve. I also learned to prepare teaching materials and adopt various teaching methods.

Teaching Assistant, Student Associate Scheme, Middlesbrough, June to July 2008
Co-operated between the Training and Developing Agency (TDA) and the target schools in the Northeast, I worked alongside experienced teachers to gain classroom teaching experience.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is simple and effective. The general framework is to go through general concepts that are fundamental to student's understanding on the subject through the use of simple examples. I will then reinforce the message and encourage students to work on more specific and challenging problems. Confidence is key and it is vital that my tutees are constantly motivated and encouraged in order to self-develop both at an academic and personal level.

I also strive to make lessons as interactive as I can. I understand the different learning needs of different students. I will always be flexible and will do my best to help you succeed.

Personal Description:
I've loved Mathematics from as long as I can remember and I enjoy teaching it and tutoring others. I have studied Maths up to PhD level and so am comfortable teaching all levels of Maths. I am friendly and spend time to help my tutees understand the fundamental concepts which they need for problem solving so that they can be successful in applying this knowledge in their exams.

Teaching Experience:

I was a teaching assistant at Strathclyde University for 4 years. In that time, I lectured Mathematics to first and second year University students, organised and supervised tutorial sessions, set and marked assignments/exams and tutored students on a one-to-one basis. I have also tutored my friend's kids who were home schooled and marked work which their parents didn't have the knowledge to mark.
Also have a PGDE(S) in Mathematics and currently teaching within the new curriculum

Tutoring Approach:

I find that the most effective way of mastering concepts/tricks is the hands-on approach. So I work with my tutees particularly in areas where they are weak until they have mastered the underlying concept/approach and are able to apply it on their own to similar problems. I am patient and work with you to help you use the knowledge you already have by approaching material from a different angle to what you've maybe been shown.

Aside from my studies I play a lot of sport (lacrosse, rugby and athletics) and have captained teams at national and regional level. Due to my teaching experience (see below) I am comfortable working with children through to adults on a broad range of subjects.

I am dedicated to providing all my students with the time they need to improve, thus will only take a certain amount of students at a time. At the moment, I have space for 2 A-level students and 2 more Higher Education students.

Tutoring Approach:

Academic experience: I have worked in private tutoring, state and private schools, university departments and know how examiners mark and what they expect. I have worked for 2 prestigious Universities and am adept at entrance documents and applications. In addition, one needs to be constantly aware of the changing curricula, mark schemes, and student specifications, knowledge and understanding of which can guarantee a 95%+ grade.

Encouragement: As a sports captain, Head of Year prefect and Global Citizenship Mentor (UCL) I realise the need for a pupil's confidence to be built up before they can achieve better. In my opinion a pupil is never failing, they can just achieve more.

Planning: It is essential for us to have an organised lesson plan, and plan for our future sessions so we can map where we should be heading and what we have achieved. Many students suffer from poor organisation which, if remedied, would immediately proffer far better results.

Education: During my past 8 years of college, undergraduate and graduate university I have been educated in a host of valuable disciplines that help interest and inspire any student.

Personal Description:
Currently aged 25, I have tutored and mentored students for the last 9 years, helping to achieve their personal, academic and sporting goals, with the added benefit of being able to offer my insight working in recruitment for the Financial Services in London.

I previously received offers to study Medicine at University, and have always helped students to do their very best and in their subjects, to fulfil their aims and long-term plans for their future career.

I following an active gym & sporting lifestyle outside of the workplace, and encourage this as a key component in maintaining a balanced lifestyle, and for overall development - I have seen numerous instances where a more active lifestyle promotes healthier living, happier living and, ultimately, better academic results.

Teaching Experience:

My core tutoring experience is focused around GCSE Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) and Mathematics, for all examination boards.

Previence experience has also included:

- AS/A2 Biology & Mathematics
- GCSE English, German & Latin (for all UK Examination Boards)
- Primary and Secondary school (pre-GCSE) examinations
- Entrance examinations - for primary and second schools (including verbal & non-verbal reasoning)
- Tennis coaching from 2005 - 2007; group and 1-to-1 lessons for children aged 4-15
- UCAS application forms, personal statements, job applications, CV writing, preparation for online assessments

I have successfully helped prepared students for Entrance Exams, primary and secondary school examinations, GCSEs, A-levels (A2 and AS), helping to reach their and - in a number of cases - exceed their academic expectations/predicted grades.

Tutoring Approach:

Every student has a different personality, and will have specific ways of learning suited to them. Recognising this, my approach is personalised, friendly and supportive, with the focus on getting the best for the individual student.

The approach I take is simply not sitting down for an hour or 90minutes, following a rigid academic syllabus; from my own experience, a student's academic career and development at this age plays a massive part in their future development and experiences in the working world.

My approach is take on the combined role of a tutor and mentor, relating their academic goals to their own day-to-day lives as a whole, and future aspirations of the students that I work with - again, being able to offer my own insight as a Recruiter.

Furthermore, effectively "bridging the gap" as a key point of contact between the student & their respective parents/guardians is crucial; I liaise regularly with parents and guardians of my students, keeping them up-to-date with the tutoring sessions, and how best to encourage positive development of their child, both academically and personally.

September 2014: Hi jas - really sorry to let you know so late but Alfie got 3 B's for each of his sciences! He only just missed an A for chemistry. He is absolutely delighted despite schools wish for A's. Thank you for all your help - there is no doubt it made a huge difference to him. You were a total star to him - and the summer has been good to him - his confidence is finally starting to improve & I think it's a lot down to your encouragement and believing in him. We went away just after getting the results - my biggest apologies for being so slow to get news to you. Very best wishes, kris

Jas has helped Daniel enormously with his maths and science over the past few months in preparation for the upcoming GCSE's. He is a charming and good humored person who Daniel relates to quite well which made the two hours tuition every Saturday morning not such a chore! Both Daniel and I, as a parent, would certainly recommend Jas to any future students.

Personal Description:
Post doctoral researcher at University of Sheffield, working to improve mathematical computer models which predict onset of heart disease.

I recently completed a PhD in Bioengineering at Imperial College London, carrying out mathematical research on heart disease. My first degree was in Maths at the same university, and I took a Masters in Biomedical Research in between.

I attended both a state school and a top boarding school and am comfortable to cover topics on and off the standard syllabus.

I am a very fun, friendly person with a wide range of activities and hobbies from inline skating to singing and playing the violin.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored A-level maths privately for a few years, and also spent several weeks as a teaching assistant in a secondary school during my undergraduate degree as part of the Student Associates Scheme. Many of my contemporaries from university are science and mathematics teachers across England and overseas, and I periodically discuss teaching methods and curriculum changes with them.

During my PhD, I led undergraduate tutorials and problems classes in the Mathematics and several Engineering departments, teaching undergraduates from 1st year to 4th year. The courses include Mathematical Methods, Matlab, Fluid Mechanics, PDEs, Modelling in Biology, Heat and Mass Transfer. I also carried out 1-1 tuition for undergraduates at departmental request. I have supervised a number of undergraduate and masters research projects and summer students.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very approachable person and I prefer interactive sessions, although I can tailor the tuition style to the individual.

A first meeting would involve an informal chat for the student and I to get more familiar with his/her needs and style of working, and everything follows from there.

Personal Description:
My name's Laetitia (Tish), currently a second year undergraduate at Cambridge University in the faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (studying Russian and Arabic). I'm living in London until October 2013, and am keen to pass on whatever knowledge I can, while making the process as enjoyable as possible! I have experience in a range of subjects which I studied to GCSE and/or A-level, achieving the top grade possible in each. I have particular experience in the Russian language, with the added benefit of having learnt it as a non-native speaker (so I know what that's like!). As well as studying it for the last 10 years for GCSE, A-level and now my university degree at Cambridge I have also spent a considerable amount of time over the past few years in different parts of Russia and the Ukraine living among Russian friends and doing independent travel.

Teaching Experience:

I've been an assistant at both primary and secondary schools in departments of Art and Russian. I am currently tutoring GCSE maths at Dunraven school with the charity Action Tutoring. I also have younger sisters who I've helped through both GCSEs and A-levels in a number of subjects!

Tutoring Approach:

Flexible according to personal needs of each individual student.

Personal Description:
Hi I'm Meghavi and I am currently in my third year at Imperial College London studying BSc Physics. Currently, I am training to become a teacher alongside my Physics degree. I will have a QTS (Qualified Teaching Status) by the end of 2015. I have always been interested in teaching, from my GCSE years, I began helping my friends with their school work. Moving to A level years I started helping out some of the teachers in my school to run after school sessions to help kids with their Homework. I would say I am very patient and will sit there till the concept is clear in their minds. I am not the kind of person who gives up easily so I will do what it takes to make sure an idea or concept is understood. As a person I am very friendly and bubbly. I like to have a good laugh and I'm a good listener.

As far as personal interests go; I love to travel, I love music, movies and Food. I enjoy cooking. I like trying out new things and exploring new places and meeting new people.

Teaching Experience:

My interest in teaching began when I started helping my sister with her school work. I started teaching in 2009. I worked at Kumon (one of UK's largest supplementary education provider) for a year. I then started tutoring AS Students for AS Physics at Lampton School which involved spending my free lessons and after school sessions to help them with any conceptual problems, homework, exam practice or just a recap of any topic in AS Physics. These students felt comfortable coming up to me at any time during or after school to ask any queries they had about the subject. (References Available)

I have helped out in Maths classes and planned my own lessons under the supervision of my teacher. I have also worked as a learning mentor at Lampton School and helped students with any homework or classwork in various subjects.

More recently (2013 - 2014) I have been a tutor for various students; teaching A Level Physics, A Level Maths and Further Maths, GCSE Maths, Primary Maths and GCSE Science (Biology Chemistry and Physics all inc).

Tutoring Approach:

Clearly each student is different, and so the way of teaching each one will be different. However I believe that if the foundation is strong nothing can go wrong. I will first try to ensure that the concept and the base of the subject is strong before we go on to a number of past paper questions and exercises. I believe that the best way to learn is to see how any problem can be tackled, go through the thought process and then apply what you know to the specific problem and solve it.

I will first see what the student finds most difficult and what their weaknesses are and then strive to overcome them. Each student will have their own learning methods, some may learn by understanding the whole concept then going into the exam questions, some want to go through exam questions while they are learning the concept to see how the theory can be applied to the problems. Some may learn visually with experiments or examples whereas others will learn through trial and improvement of their own. I will spend the first session finding out how they like to learn and design a program just right for that individual student.

From previous experiences I believe the key areas students need help in are:
- learning the foundation of the subject
- how to manage time in exams
- how to structure their answers in an exam
- lots and lots of practice
Hopefully once we start tutoring, the students will feel much more confident with the subject and the key to success for any exam is self confidence. I will always be their as a guide, a mentor, a friend to help them through what they find difficult.

Personal Description:
Education:
I am a first year PhD student at the University of Sheffield working on discolouration in water distribution systems (Department Scholarship). I graduated from the University in June 2014 with a First Class MEng Degree in Civil and Structural Engineering with Study Abroad (UIUC in the United States). Prior to that I achieved AAAB at A Level in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and General Studies as well as 9A*s & A at GCSE at Altrincham Girls Grammar School.

Outside of the Classroom:
I danced from age 3 to University (ballet, tap etc) including taking teaching qualifications and teaching my own lessons for 3 years for children aged 3-18. At University I got involved with the British Red Cross and I am now rowing/coxing for City of Sheffield Rowing Club. I am also Grade 5 in Saxophone and a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver.

I live in Walkley with my partner Nick (a final year PhD student as well) and hope to one day be a Professor.

Teaching Experience:

I taught as a student dance teacher for three years during my GCSEs and A levels.

As part of my PhD I am assisting in second year undergraduate tutorials and lab classes (started Sept 2014). I am undertaking the Sheffield Teaching Assistant program.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that the most important thing in education (and life) is knowing your strengths and weaknesses. Once areas of improvement are identified, we can understand the problem, work out the tools needed and then build up confidence with repetition of solving difficult problems.
