Personal Description:
I have a dual background in Electrical Engineering and Psychology and retired in 2007 after 20 years as a University lecturer. At different stages in my career I taught telecommunications engineering, software engineering/artificial intelligence and psychology. For relaxation I listen to jazz and blues.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring since March 2008 and am able to offer maths, physics and ICT from primary up to 'A' level, general science (biology, chemistry, and physics) up to GCSE level, and psychology at 'A' level and university level. A number of my tutees have been following courses in IGCSE Maths or Science or the IB in Maths or Physics. I am familiar with the 11+ exam requirements of Bromley, Bexley, and Kent education authorities and have assisted a number of pupils with their preparation for the exam. (In the absence of this category in the Subject list, my fee for 11+ preparation is 23/hour and for 13+ (Common Entrance) 25/hour.) My specialist areas in psychology at university level are developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, personality and intelligence, and research methods.

I am a chartered psychologist and can carry out educational and psychological assessments of both children and adults who are experiencing learning or language difficulties (however, I do not undertake remedial teaching).

Tutoring Approach:

Consider it important to assess the pupil's needs, strengths, and weaknesses carefully at the outset in order to develop a set of goals based on this assessment. Aim to provide well-structured and clearly presented instruction, which if the pupil is able and well-motivated will generally lead to progress. If the pupil is poorly motivated and/or has acquired unhelpful learning habits then may need to vary the approach in order to re-engage their interest and/or find a level at which they can perform successfully, and then build on this accomplishment.

Personal Description:
Iam a graduate of MSc Engineering professional. I have a real talent in passing exams, So, as a last resort, I hope some of my exam / revision tips can help someone get that extra few marks to move up a grade. I have very much interest in teaching the Maths & Science subjects and other similar subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I have around 8 year's of teaching experience.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching style is very friendly and efficient for those who want to prosper in their studies. I always try to make my lessons mutually interesting, especially for my pupils. If students are not eager to study mathematics at first, I understand that this is due to frustration and lack of knowledge in the subject. I try to create warm and helping environment for pupils. I try to interest and inspire them so that they get enough knowledge and experience and eventually develop confidence and love for mathematics.

Personal Description:
A full member of the Tutors Association, I have much tuition, coaching and training experience; both one-to-one and in groups.
Holding several relevant academic qualifications (including a degree in Maths & Physics), I am also a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Scientist, full Corporate Member of the Institute of Physics.
During my career, I have held several senior management positions within several British based companies.
Having a fundamental love of virtually all things mathematical and scientific, I very much enjoy passing on this enthusiasm & knowledge to 'A' Level students, with the aim of enhancing their skills & boosting examination performance.
I hold full and current CRB accreditation.

Teaching Experience:

I have been offering 'A' Level tuition in Maths & Physics since 1997
The vast majority of students with whom I have worked have either achieved, or surpassed, their target grades.
During the last academic year (2013/2014)) I was pleased to work regularly (typically weekly) with fourteen 'A' Level Maths students, three 'A' Level Physics students, one student studying Electrical Engineering, and one studying Maths with the Open University.

Tutoring Approach:

Being an active participant in, and supporter of, the whole education process, I have also held a four year LEA Governorship at a school in mid-Devon.
My approach to tutoring is, first of all, to talk openly with any potential student (ideally with parent or guardian present) in order to find out what is required, the problems, issues etc.
I treat all students as adults, and do not patronise or talk down to them, ie I treat each one as a mature individual. My aim is to work closely with each student, in the way that best suits him/her, in order to empower him/her with higher levels of knowledge and ability. The result being that their confidence and skill levels increase to those necessary to achieve the best possible exam grades. I encourage my students to actively participate in the tutoring process; to challenge, and to ask questions and discuss all aspects of the work content.
I coach all my students in exam techniques, with emphasis on layout, showing working, best use of time etc.
Last, but certainly not least, I believe it to be of fundamental importance to work with all my students in complete confidence; before, during and after any tutoring involvement.

Personal Description:
I graduated from the University of Cambridge with a degree in Classics, and am now living in Tottenham, London.

I have worked part-time as a tutor for several years, teaching particularly Maths and Classics for ages between 8 and 21, which I fit alongside a career as an actor.

I am CRB checked.

Teaching Experience:

I have 4 years of tutoring experience in English, Maths, Latin and Ancient Greek. I have experience teaching 8-11 early numeracy/literacy skills aiming towards 11+, 12-13 year old scholarship preparation, GCSEs, A-Levels, University entrance, University level and adult private interest.

My degree was in Classics with English and I achieved a 590/600 in my Maths A-Level and have kept up a strong interest in Maths ever since, so I teach/have taught Classics to any level, English to University entrance level and Maths up to A-level. I am currently studying to be able to teach Further Maths, which I hope to provide soon.

Tutoring Approach:

I hope to be seen as affable, humourous and very patient and I try to create a comfortable atmosphere in all my lessons and I feel I'm quite good at adapting my style for the different needs of different pupils. When a student is afraid of their subject, I can work calmly to build their confidence; when they struggle for self-motivation, I can provide them with the kick of enthusiasm they need; when they simply have poor teaching at school, I hope I can prove that I can get them where they need to be.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified teacher with experience of teaching and tutoring maths, biology, chemistry and physics to GCSE level and physics to A-level. Prior to qualifying as a teacher, I worked as a university researcher coaching undergraduates in their final year projects and then as a teaching assistant in a secondary school providing small group and one to one tuition tailored for the needs of individual students. I also have experience in preparing candidates for 11+ school examinations.

Teaching Experience:

Following eight years working in university education, I have spent sevenyears working in secondary schools including two years as a teaching assistant, providing small group and one to one tuition, one year working towards my PGCE and a further four years as a fully qualified teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

I carefully evaluate the learning needs of each individual student, looking at their existing knowledge, strengths and weaknesses to provide a structured approach to the tuition sessions.

I provide a friendly, positive approach to teaching maths and science to build confidence in subjects that some students find daunting. By exploring the underlying meaning behind concepts that may cause difficulties, I aim to improve understanding and help the student gain confidence in their own ability to learn.

For students taking examinations, I ensure a thorough preparation by focusing on exam technique and concentrating on past examination questions and analysis of mark schemes to allow students to achieve the best results that they are capable of.

For students preparing for 11+ examinations I focus on building confidence in key skills needed for success, using a variety of strategies and activities tailored for the particular exams that the student will be taking.

Personal Description:
My first teaching job was in Kenya when I was 19, and since then I have taught English in Mexico, Brazil, Japan and England. My students have ranged from 4 to 94, and from beginners to doctors and academic researchers, focusing on conversation, business, or exams, depending on the student's needs.

I have a passion for language, whether listening to strangers on the bus or exploring grammatical structures, and my students pick up my enthusiasm and enjoyment.

I have written a book on psychology, linguistics and science, edited children's books and academic texts, and worked as a translator of both Portuguese and Japanese.

My BSc is in Life Sciences with the History and Philosophy of Science and Medicine, and I am interested in nearly everything, except football and cars.

Teaching Experience:

2010-present: ESL teacher, language coach for academics, and private tutor to Japanese kids.

2006-2010: Private English tutor (in MG, Brazil).

2001-2005: High School teacher and private tutor (in Kyoto, Japan)
1999-2001: Elementary and Junior High School English teacher, also special needs class (in Fukushima, Japan).

1997: Teacher for tortillas and lodging in the jungle (in Chiapas, Mexico)

1995: Volunteer school teacher of English, Science & Maths (in rural Kenya)

Tutoring Approach:

I use only English in my lessons, encouraging my students to speak as much as possible, and to correct their own or each other's errors wherever possible.

My emphasis is on fluency, natural language and confidence, so when teaching grammar or considering problems, the student can refer to concrete examples in their heads, rather than abstract formulae in textbooks.

I use a broad range of materials, techniques, and situations, setting high standards and pushing my students to work hard towards accuracy and creativity in English.

Though I am happy teaching one-to-one, I find that a group of two to four students can be more dynamic, more relaxed, and a better environment for free expression and mutual correction. If you agree, I might invite you to join a class of students at a similar level, which makes the lesson much more economical for you.

Personal Description:
I'm a wife and mother of two daughters and I work in education. I can't say what age group I prefer working with as I just love the process of facilitating the learning of others and seeing them 'get it' - the light bulb moment! I've been there myself and it's great to see others have the same experience.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked in schools for the past 11 years in a number of roles. I am a trained Primary teacher with a specialism in Spanish. I worked for a year as a supply teacher with classes from Year 1 to Year 6. In secondary schools I have provided a wide and varied support role for English and Modern Foreign Language faculties. I worked for a year as a Cover Supervisor and currently I work in a successful girls' secondary school as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant. I support students across the whole curriculum. As well as a classroom based role, I assist the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator at the school and so I have a special interest working with young people with special educational needs and also children with English as an additional language. I am confident in supporting learners from Key Stage 1 through to GCSE in most subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to vary my approach to tutoring depending upon the needs of the tutee and their preferred learning style. I feel it is important that the learner has the opportunity to take ownership of the learning experience, though some need more guidance than others. I like to encourage learners so that they realise that they are capable of so much more than they originally thought possible. I mentor GCSE students at my school and find that young people in particular may have problems self-esteem and this hinders their learning, particularly in a group setting. Working one to one gives students that little bit of breathing space they need to work through their problems without having to feel self-conscious - then they can feel more confident and flourish when they go back into the classroom.

Personal Description:
I provide GCSE and A level Math tuition for £35 an hour.

I am doing my doctorate in climate change (geochemistry) at Imperial College. I have an MEng in Mechanical Engineering with first class honours from Bristol University. I did my A levels (5 A-Level A's) in Malaysia.

Teaching Experience:

I spent a year in part time and then another year in full time teaching GCSE and A level Math, Physics, Chemistry and Engineering privately and at colleges in the UK and Malaysia. Several tutees have achieved top of the class marks and have gone on to Cambridge and Oxford for medicine and natural sciences.

Tutoring Approach:

I have gone back into part time tutoring during my PhD because I enjoy teaching.

I am patient, friendly, understanding and welcome all questions. I am thoroughly knowledgeable in the subject and my intention is to pass on my enthusiasm for the subject.

I aim for a relaxed and comfortable but efficient method of tuition by working through problem sets, explaining difficult areas clearly. Confidence is gained through clear explanations, examples, and guided problem solving. I can provide short progress reports if requested.

I am not with an agency, so mine is the only fee which covers my time and costs for travel within zones 1-2. I can provide a CV, references and an enhanced CRB certificate upon request. Personal Description:
I'm currently in the final months of an Astrophysics Ph.D. at Imperial College London where I'm studying the role of galactic collision in the evolution of galaxies. My academic and scholastic career has covered a broad range of fields within the scientific spectrum.

I've studied Maths, Physics and Chemistry at University and passed the International Baccalaureate (the European equivalent for A-Levels) for each of them with full marks.

I'm a native Italian speaker and I studied Italian literature for 5 years.

Over the last 5 years, teaching has been a key component of my working week.

Teaching Experience:

Supervised student during her Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (June 2012 - August 2012)

Coursework demonstrator in Quantum Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Fourier Transform, Electromagnetism, Electron in Solids, Relativity (October 2008 - June 2011)

Tutored 4 middle school children during my high-school years (2001-2004)

Tutoring Approach:

When I tutor I tend to balance explanations with problem solving exercises. The teaching side focus on ways to make even the most difficult scientific idea simple to understand through examples and real life applications, but truly understand a concept you need to apply it and to learn how to use it properly, and that's where the problem solving comes in.

Personal Description:
I am a young spanish guy living in London, i came to this city to improve my English because i´m studying to be a teacher (English specialty). It´s a 4 years degree in the International University of La Rioja (Spain) and i complement my studies working part-time in a famous clothing store.
Five years ago i finished my Economics degree (4 years) in University of La Coruña (Spain) and also i did a course about Stock Market Analysis in University of La Coruña. I received a State scholarship to work in an Italian international company, where i had the chance to learn Italian as well. I did an Italian course in the Tourism School of Rimini (Italy).
I decided to star my teacher degree and change my personal career because i feel that it´s my vocation, i love to learn about everything and have the chance to pass on my knowledge to others. It´s something really pleasant.
As additional information i can say that i´m a quite person, very patient and i love the sports, i´m a sportsmen and i did the course to be a monitor leisure activities which has given me the opportunity to deal with many children and teach them so many different activities such as: Archery, kayak, canoeing and rowing...
Other information of interest is that i was football coach during 6 years in a Spanish football team, dealing with children between 5 and 12 years old. It was a good experience to learn how i can motivate the children to achieve their objectives.

Teaching Experience:

I´ve been working as a Spanish teacher in a language academy during 6 months, teaching people from Germany, France, and UK... (Adult people)
Also I've worked in a Primary School during 1 year as an English teaching assistant, teaching children aged between 3 and 9.
Apart from that i worked as a private tutor teaching different subject such as maths, English, economy, geography, history and Spanish. Teaching to students between 6 and 15 years old.

Tutoring Approach:

About my teaching philosophy, i believe that the student has to understand the problems and no just memorize. I always try to explain the subjects adapting the concepts to the real life, like that, the student will remember better the explanation.
For language classes i try to combine grammar, vocabulary and conversation. The conversation is one of the most important part to gain confidence and to speak fluently another language.
I always try to motivate the students to face the subject like something interesting and funny for them.
Concerning my availability i´m available Monday to Friday after 4:00 pm and weekends could also be negotiated. I´m glad to tutor in my home or commute to your place or find another location.

Personal Description:
I am a passionate and committed physicist with teaching experience at the 11-18 level. My enthusiasm for the subject is infectious and my goal is not simply to teach to exam papers (which is necessary at times), but rather to stimulate genuine excitement and curiosity in the subject; I want all my tutees to both enjoy physics and get the best grades possible for them! In addition to teaching Physics, I also offer tutoring in Mathematics. My physics training has given me a very strong grounding in the subject, and I spend leisure time improving my skills in this area.

Academically, I hold a Masters in Experimental Physics with First Class Honours from the University of York. In addition, I won the Masters Project prize for my final year research project. I will be studying at Imperial College from October on their MSc in Quantum Fields and Fundamental Forces course. with a view to studying for a PhD in theoretical physics.

In my free time, aside from physics, I enjoy playing drums, singing, reading and keeping fit.I tend to have a common interest with most people.

Teaching Experience:

I enrolled on a PGCE course last year but quickly found that I was desperately missing academic study. As a result I recently terminated my course registration and signed up to Imperial College for the next academic year. My time on the PGCE has provided me with a valuable 6 months teaching experience across a wide spectrum of abilities.

Tutoring Approach:

For an individual to perform at their maximum potential in any given academic discipline, they must first appreciate why they are studying the subject, and secondly they must learn to enjoy the subject. My first aim in tutoring Maths and Physic is to address these points by using real world examples.

My approach to tutoring Physics is to view the subject as a whole rather than a collection of separate topics. In this way, students quickly develop mastery of the basics allowing them to be literate enough in the subject to explore with some independence. I also enjoy employing reductive approaches where appropriate (depending on students ability and age), so that students develop a deep understanding of the topics which they are studying and not just superficial knowledge which is quickly forgotten.

In both Maths and Physics, problem solving is of vital importance, and so I have a strong focus on this mainly through self study exercises. It is of paramount importance that students are committed enough to undertake these exercises, as it is only through practice that true understanding will be obtained. In addition, in order to achieve good exam grades, exam question practice is a must.

Personal Description:
I am currently a Primary School teacher working in the Maidstone area. I find teaching such a rewarding experience. There is no greater reward than being able to help a child who is finding something difficult so that they can feel confident to not only attempt task, but to use strategies and techniques taught which will help them to succeed. My experience of teaching all primary ages has helped me to develop strategies that the children will find simple and rewarding and as I know exactly where the children are coming from at a basic level and where they will b going to, I am able to support and challenge where necessary.

Teaching Experience:

I`ve been teaching for 8 years and during this time I have taught all primary age year groups from Reception through to year 6, although I currently teach a year 3 class. I have found that each year group offers its own challenges and rewards, but teaching this range has enabled me to develop strategies and activities that are suited to all. This range of experiences within primary school has also helped me to become familiar with not only the curriculum but also the testing arrangements in all year groups and as such I would be confident to tutor children of any primary age.

Tutoring Approach:

I firmly believe that children need to feel comfortable and safe in order to learn well. I make every effort to get to know the children as I know that from understanding their personality, their likes and their dislikes, I am able to focus my tutoring to help them to reach their potential. Each child is individual and I endeavour to remember this every time I teach. Whether your child needs someone to challenge them academically, or someone to understand their complex needs and personalities, I can offer this.

Personal Description:
I am a 52-year-old mathematics graduate, living near Frodsham & working full-time in the chemical industry. I am married with two children in their twenties, both of whom have now left home. I find the tuition of maths a fresh & interesting challenge away from my usual work & I believe that, because of this, my enthusiasm for the subject is transmitted to my students.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring, one-to-one, for nine years & have also spent time working with small groups of students in a local comprehensive school in the run-up to national exams. I have worked with students of ages ranging from 10 years to 18 years & have also worked with adults on the mathematics units of their university degrees.

Tutoring Approach:

During the time I have been tutoring, I have received many cards & e-mails commenting, almost invariably, on my patience. I appreciate that meeting a tutor & starting to work one-to-one may be daunting for some students, especially if they are not confident with the subject. With this in mind, I try to encourage a relaxed informality from the outset, with occasional reminders, if necessary, of why I'm there! I realize that each student is an individual & try to deliver what they (& their parents) want from the sessions. I welcome parents' involvement & will address any particular concerns that they have.

Personal Description:
I have been a tutor for over 5 years and have taught over 45 students in that time.
I am currently training to become a teacher, by studying towards a PGCE with the Open University.
I graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2010 with a M.Sci in Natural Science. I focus on improving confidence and question answering technique as well as fostering a deeper understanding of each topic. By relating theoretical concepts to everyday ideas, I help students find the common-sense structure hiding behind abstract numbers and theories. I also provide intensive exam preparation.

Teaching Experience:

From September 2011 - December 2012, I worked as an Editor at Boardworks in Oxford, a company that makes science and maths teaching resources for UK teachers and schools. This means I have a very clear understanding not only of the subjects and how to teach them, but also what is covered in school, by which exam boards and at what age, from 14 to 18 years. In December 2012, I left Boardworks in order to pursue a full-time career as a tutor, a choice that I continue to find incredibly rewarding and stimulating.

In the year between graduating and starting work at Boardworks, I held an number of education-related placements and internships, notably at University College London, in the Public Engagement Unit and as an Education Assistant in the Sedgwick Museum of Earth Science, Cambridge.

In 2010 I graduated from Queens' College, University of Cambridge with M.Sci in Natural Science. This course covered maths, physics, evolution and behaviour, paleontology, geochemistry, geophysics, climatology and geomorphology. This allows me to teach all science subjects to high level, and point out the links and relationships between the different sciences and maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor each lesson to suit the student's needs. The first few lessons usually focus on getting to know the student and their strengths and weaknesses. I identify areas for improvement and use subsequent lessons to work on these, as well as ensuring that the student is comfortable with the whole of the syllabus. Closer to the exam season, we will focus on improving question technique and creating links across the curriculum.

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic individual, currently studying a physics bachelor at Cardiff university. I am very much immersed in my study, of which mathematics plays a very large part, and so I am proficient in the practice of both physics and mathematics. I am very passionate about my course, and I believe that passion to be the most important factor in learning a subject that at first may seem intimidating and monotonous. This passion is one that I would hope to pass on to any pupil under my guidance.

Teaching Experience:

Academically speaking, I have no teaching experience to speak of. However, I always enjoyed helping others on my way through school and college, having had many peers who struggled with the material, and having enjoyed and been lucky enough to understand the material myself. It is my desire to at some point in my life, become a teacher, and so I would consider this to be a good first step towards that goal.

Tutoring Approach:

As I mentioned previously, passion is a large factor in learning subjects that at first appear mundane. I feel however that people who view mathematics and physics as mundane have merely been neglected by their teachers. One on one tutoring is very beneficial for those who have failed to gain stimulation from traditional methods since a tutor can focus on the needs of the individual. I would strive to create a comfortable atmosphere for any student, one that allows them a feeling of freedom, a feeling necessary to progress in these subjects.

I also find that students will always question why mathematics is useful. As a physicist I get rewarded with the answers to this question on a day to day basis. I would aim to provide these answers wherever they appeared in order to show a student that what they are doing has meaning.

Finally, I think that it is vitally important for people studying physics and maths to experience the joy that you can gain from solving a problem that challenges you. I would try for any potential student, to make my lessons more of a guiding hand, and less of a rinse and repeat methodology. True understanding is far greater a teacher than mere repetition.
