Personal Description:
I am currently a doctoral researcher undertaking my PhD at The University of Glasgow, a personal tutor, a proof reader, a note taker and a support worker for various universities and agencies.

I also hold a BA (Hons) undergraduate degree and an MLitt (Master of Letters) postgraduate degree. I am a qualified personal tutor in 15 subject areas and am rated a 10/10 tutor by Alpha Tutors. I also do some freelance writing and have contributed numerous articles to the website Helium, most of which are voted number one in their category, I have also had several articles published in society newsletters and publications, including The International Crosby Circle and The Sinatra Music Society. I have organised an international conference, a departmental postgraduate symposium and presented papers at both events.

Teaching Experience:

I work as a Top-Up Tutor for the University of Glasgow where I go to different schools and prepare S5 and S6 students for university; as a Proof Reader, Note Taker and Support Worker for disabled students at the University of the West of Scotland and am a freelance personal on-line and off-line tutor qualified in 15 subject areas including English Language, English Literature, Media Studies, Film Studies, and General Writing Skills. I work via Alpha Tutors, UK Tutors, Tutors4Kids and Fleet Tutors and teach from pre-exam age to Standard Grade, Higher, GCSE, A-Level, University level and Adult Learners. I have been tutoring since August 2007 and have chalked up around 400 tutoring hours in these subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning should be fun and in a relaxed atmosphere but at the same time academic and useful. My approach to teaching is to have the tutor and student both feel that they are getting a lot out of the experience and that the time is being well used. I will break down subjects into easily manageable blocks and make sure that my student understands the unit before moving on. I also like to vary my tutorials by having some in the form of lectures, some in the form of question and answers, some where I will give students feedback on homework they have done and suggestions to improve what they have done, etc.

I also find that on-line tuition is the best method and students can ask questions that they may not ask if they were face-to-face with someone, it is a much more relaxed approach but students get a lot out of it (and can save all the notes from lessons for use later on)

Personal Description:
I grew up in a bi-lingual household (German & English) in Luxembourg, where I went to the European School. Even though I was in the German section, I learned English from first year primary onwards and am equally comfortable at expressing myself in both of these languages, both orally and in the written form. Halfway through my secondary education, I was also taught core subjects such as Economics, Geography, and Sociology in English, which influenced my decision to continue my education in Dorset, England. Additionally, I learned French during secondary school in Luxembourg (I went on to achieve an A grade for my A-levels in Dorset, UK), I picked up Luxembourgish in everyday life up to fluent level, and I learned Spanish during a 2-month stay in Havanna, Cuba, in 2003. I also studied Business & Economics at A-level, I am an enthusiastic drummer (I've played the drum kit and Congas in various bands and drum groups, performing in front of crowds of up to 500 people), am a keen sportsman (I played Rugby at Junior National level, Taekwondo at University, and enjoy Cycling, Running, Tennis, etc. I am also a film enthusiast, enjoy attending musical performances, volunteering / fundraising for charity, and take great interest in my local environment and community.

Teaching Experience:

I briefly taught a primary class in Ghana (English and Maths), but other than that I have no formal teaching experience. I have, however, been involved in many translation and interpreting projects (at university and professionally) of which I would be glad to offer you a sample. I have received many years of high quality Primary, Secondary, and University education and am certainly able to teach what I have learned, as I still have all the teaching material. I am a very good communicator, enjoy explaining issues and discussions, and many of my friends have recommended me becoming a teacher. I am considering accepting the PGCE in Teaching Modern Foreign Languages (French & German) at Bristol University for which I have been offered a place.

Tutoring Approach:

First of all I will assess the individual skill level through a thorough a process of conversation and evaluation. Then I will ask the student where he/she sees his/her weaknesses/strengths. I will then begin teaching, while taking into account these areas, with the aim to improve the weak points. I believe that teaching needs to strike a fine balance between discipline and fun, as enjoyment in learning the material is vital for motivation. I also think that a continuous stream of feedback between tutor (me) and the tutee is essential to ensure progress. I am willing to teach any of my listed subject areas, as long as I am notified at least one week in advance. Should the tutee have no specific areas of interest, I shall prepare a standard teaching schedule.

Personal Description:
I grew up in Singapore where I studied English as my first language and Chinese Mandarin as my mother tongue.

From 2005 - 2007, I worked as a freelance translator for Asia Pacific Breweries, translating marketing promotional materials from English-Chinese for their brands such as Tiger Beer and Heineken. I have also done translations for the Singapore government. As demonstrated, I possess an excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese.

This year, I completed a two-year part-time Diploma programme in Translation Skills (Chinese and English) from the Singapore Chinese Chamber Institute of Business.

Earlier in June, a team of Chinese teachers from Singapore, including myself, were invited by The Office of Chinese Language Council International or China Hanban, to attend a 2-week course at the Shanghai Fudan University on Chinese Language Teaching.

Currently, I live in South Wales and am available to tutor children, youths or adult learners who are interested in learning Beginner's Chinese Mandarin. I am also able to teach English (for foreign speakers), Business-related subjects or Media and Journalism subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I graduated with a Master's degree with Distinction in International Journalism from Cardiff University and worked as a Life Skills Lecturer at Singapore's Institute of Technical Education from 2006 to 2008. At the College, I taught a variety of modules in English to students aged 16-22, which include Communication Skills, Personal Effectiveness and Career Planning & Development.

In addition to teaching, I was also Editor of the college's newsletter, CE:360, in March 2007. I worked with the students to write and design the newsletter where 8,000 copies were printed every six-monthly for the students and staff of the College.

Recognised for my commitment and reliability, I was chosen by Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to represent the college on a one-month foreign teaching assignment where I taught basic English to Lao government officials.

Before becoming a teacher and translator, I graduated with a first degree in Advertising and Marketing Communications. I was employed as a senior public relations executive in a Singapore-based PR agency for two years, where I devised a number of PR and marketing programmes and organised many publicity events.

Tutoring Approach:

I am patient, encouraging and methodical in my approach to help learners gain confidence in the subject. Realistic learning goals coupled with a fun learning environment would ensure learners sustain their interest in the subject and eventually develop competence. Learning is individually tailored to fully cater to the learner's needs.

Personal Description:
I am a native French speaker and have been studying in an English speaking school to prepare my A-levels. I have an undergraduate degree in history and history of art from the Sorbonne in Paris, an MA in film studies and communication from the University of London (Queen Mary Univeristy) and a postgraduate diploma in magazine journalism from City University.

I have been a working journalist for the past six years.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a mentor for younger journalists on diverse projects including a summer programme for the National Youth Theatre and ongoing training and mentoring of graduate trainees for the past two years.

I have been a French and history private tutor with my students successfully passing their respective exams.

I have volunteered in a local primary school to help children develop their literacy and confidence when reading. I am also tutoring adults on religious subjects on a weekly basis.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a friendly and sociable person with whom students feel quickly at ease.
I like to start by an informal assessment of the student's needs, preconceptions, strengths and weaknesses.
I think it's good to challenge students to exploit their abilities to the fullest without putting undue pressure on them.
I thoroughly prepare for each tuition and try my best to show students their progress and improvement. I think it's essential to encourage and motivate people to help them achieve their potential.

Personal Description:
I have worked in education all my adult life, and ten years ago embarked upon a freelance career which has enabled me to focus on the kind of work I love, and to spend more time with my family, and do the things I most enjoy.

As an English graduate, my greatest passion is literature. I read a wide range of novels, drama and poetry. Authors I have recently enjoyed include Ian McEwan, Philip Pullman, Helen Dunmore, Kazuo Ishiguro... too many to mention!

I spend a lot of time writing and completed a six month course in novel writing with the Faber Academy on which I was delighted to be offered a place. I have had a number of articles and short stories published, and am working on my first novel.

Teaching Experience:

My first job was teaching English to young speakers of other languages during the summer vacations when I was at University - many years ago!

After I graduated in English I qualified as a teacher. My first full-time post was in a sixth-form college, where I taught English at a variety of levels to A-level and University entrance. After two further full-time teaching posts in a 14-19 secondary school and another sixth-form college, I moved into Adult and Community Education. During much of this time I also took on a number of part-time posts, tutoring English, English to Speakers of other Languages, Creative Writing and General Studies in a university extra-mural department, the Workers Education Association and in a number of prisons. I served on the English A-level set books committee of a national examinations board, and have worked as a part-time examiner.

For the past ten years I have been working as a freelance education consultant, trainer and writer. Much of my education consultancy and training work has involved facilitating and coaching young people and professionals in a variety of contexts and a range of subject areas such as communication skills, business writing skills and writing for the media.

Tutoring Approach:

I firmly believe that we only learn effectively when we find the learning experience interesting, relevant and meaningful. My first priority is to endeavour to ensure that my students are having that kind of experience! I also believe that learning should be enjoyable and fun.

I do not believe that good teaching is about pouring knowledge into students, but is about drawing learning out of them and supporting them to teach themselves. We all have huge areas of strength, skill and wisdom, and I always try to enable students to recognise theirs and to develop them to their fullest potential.

Sometimes, of course, learning is about studying things we are not so interested in just to get through an exam - a means to a hopefully more enjoyable end. In that case I help students to find the most effective ways for them to do just that - and hope that even this might be enjoyable too!

Personal Description:
Hello, my dear friend. Please choose me as your tutor, according to my skills, teaching and research profile and human qualities. I am flexible to travel, free of charge, in Liverpool and Merseyside, but also for a 12 fee, to other North West England, North Wales and Midlands England destinations. I like to work with online students and I am familiar with various e-learning platforms. I have a multidisciplinary background, from literature and foreign languages, philosophy and religious studies to journalism, media and intercultural communication. I graduated my PhD at University of Paris, Sorbonne, recognized and considered by NARIC comparable to British Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) standard. I have also a postdoctoral fellowship at University of Edinburgh (The Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities) and taught and studied in India and Romania both at university and high school levels. I have a Certificate in Spanish obtained from Instituto Cervantes, Bucharest. At present, I work in a research project at University of Liverpool, School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies, Department of Modern Languages.

Teaching Experience:

I have an extensive teaching experience (over 15 years) at high school and university levels.
Here are some of the topics I have been teaching:

o Theory of communication
o Ethics of journalism
o Advertising, creativity and manipulation
o TV documentary
o Critical studies of the media

o Cultural analysis
o Discourse and identities
o Interreligious communication, with a stress on religious dialogue, the relation between religion and society, cultural values and contacts between cultures
o Philosophy of religion
o World religions
o Hermeneutics
o Ethics
o Phenomenology
o Oriental philosophy
o Comparative Literature
o Yoga Theory and Practice
o Indian culture and civilisation
o Hindi
o Sanskrit
o French
o Spanish
o Romanian
I also have a rich tutoring experience with private students, teaching them Sanskrit and French.
I have been also tutoring undergraduate students through online learning platforms.

Tutoring Approach:

My training style is very interactive, combining theoretical with live examples. I teach with or without support, while acknowledging that having a visual support proves to help audience internalize better the information given. I support a combination of training practices, combining self training and one to one coaching solutions, enabling the trainee practice and learn in different ways.

Personal Description:
I am a freelance journalist, specialising in arts and lifestyle, and currently publishing in The Entertainment Guide and Clash. I have an extensive knowledge of English literature, media and communications, having been an active practitioner. I have made documentaries about underground hip hop, written a video/performance piece for Scotland's leading stage actor Tam Dean Burn, and exhibition programmes. Indeed my actual degree is in art history, and Film and TV (with a journalism post grad), but my main experience has been in teaching English, my degree being equivalent to an English degree.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working as a personal tutor for over ten years, which I have sometimes found to be more rewarding than the journalism. This is partly form the pleasure of actually seeing people learn, and I have had generally encouraging results. I have mainly taught English from Standard Grade to Advanced Higher, but have also occasionally spoken at college events on cinema. I have recently been doing academic editing for Glasgow University, working with post graduate students whose native language is not English, on a wide variety of topics.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a practical appraoch to tuition, working according to the curriculum to get the best exam results. In English for instance, I work from a diet of past papers to improve Textual Analysis and Comprehension skills, as well as helping students with whatever school work they have at hand. I will not be setting them assignments such as write a poem about a daffodil! On the other hand, I do try and make lessons enjoyable and interesting, and if I can communicate a love of English language and literature as well as securing a good pass, I ccan consider myself to have successfully done my job.

I am a freelance journalist and I have written for several newspapers and magazines including The Guardian, The Big Issue, Bristol Review of Books, Real Travel, Mind Magazine, Volunteering England and Venue. Previous to being being freelance I was the Publisher of The Big Issue (South West).

Teaching Experience:

I teach journalism at Bath Spa University, helping students to get their work published. I also mentor young people in a project with Positive News. In the past I have also taught at the Arvon Foundation and The Folk House.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a good sense of humour and like to make the sessions as informal as possible. I have worked with several students via email and telephone. This means that you can tackle a bit at a time and save yourself money. I usually make a few suggestions at first, allow you to make them and then repeat the process until you are happy your work is the best it can be.

Personal Description:
I am a Cambridge English graduate who works in television journalism, and have also tutored on and off for the past few years. I have travelled extensively, having taken a year out and blown all the bank's money seeing sites that I never thought I'd see. I love a good book, and also really enjoy going to the cinema. Being in documentary TV production I also have a penchant for a well made factual film.

I'm 27 years old and I grew up in Sussex. However, for the past four years I have lived in London, where I now work. I am happy to travel across the city to tutor - I currently live in Shoreditch.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored a range of students over the past few years, from nine year olds to a university journalism student. I also spent two years teaching English, History and French to prep school student attempting to get into Winchester college. Despite being written off by his school, he surprised his teachers by passing the Winchester entrance exams last summer and taking his place at the school.

Tutoring Approach:

Having taught such a broad range of students, my approach has varied accordingly. For instance, the journalism undergraduate needed no encouragement to work, as she was up against tight deadlines and she had a real passion for her work. With younger students I have found it important to compromise and incorporate their individual interests into my teaching. So, for example, alongside learning the grammar that provides the building blocks of language, I have asked students in the past to complete more interesting tasks like writing the scripts for little news reports or constructing their own newspaper. I also think that it is very important for any student of language or literature to read a little every day, be it from a novel or a newspaper.

Personal Description:
My name is Lana, I am a 27 year old female from London. I am a qualified CELTA teacher and have previously studied, Media Studies, Journalism, I.T, Theatre Studies, English Literature and Language - all up to A-Level standard. Whilst at University, I studied a BA Hons Media and Communication with Journalism and PR and was awarded a 2.1 honors degree.

I have severe ADHD and numeracy dyslexia which means that I can empathize with people who may also have learning difficulties. If i can do it, anyone can.

My approach to teaching is to work with the individual on one a one to one basis and work together to form a plan of they want to achieve. I am flexible in my approach and am here to guide and assist rather than to instruct.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified CELTA teacher and i currently work at the largest English Language. I teach all levels from elementary to advanced learners. I also have over 5 years copy writing, journalism and English experience and have taught this at many levels to people from all ages and backgrounds.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to work closely with the person i am tutoring to find out what it is they want to achieve and set goals together. I prefer to be flexible in my approach so that the pupil enjoys what i do and feels that they are doing and achieving exactly what they want to.

Because of my ADHD and dyslexia i know how to teach in a way that anyone with out or without learning difficulties can understand. I am sympathetic and easy going and will work at the individuals own pace rather then imposing deadlines on them.

Whilst at school i was always told off for being lazy and for not listening when in truth i did listen and did work hard but because of ADHD i just did it in a different way. I can use this understand to adapt my teaching methods in a way that makes learning fun and easy for everyone.

I can teach slowly or quickly at whatever pace you require, i also teach in a simple and effective style in very explanatory way so that you know why we do things the way we do rather than just learning how it is done.

My name is Lyndsey Oliver and I am currently undertaking a Music Journalism degree. I have qualifications in Journalism, English and I.T. I am an honest hardworking individual, and love to help others succeed.

Teaching Experience:

Although I have no direct teaching experience it has always been a passion of mine. I have helped my younger cousin through her school life as she is dyslexic. I provided on-going support and made her feel totally at ease with all subjects that she completed. I have recently helped my brother in law undertake his GCSE's and my husband undertake a course in Maths and English in his Learn Direct course. Both of whom were dyslexic. I have also undertaken work experience in a primary school, and have helped others in both my college and university life during studying.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel that a relaxed style benefits tutees greatly. Deadlines and an enthusiasm are essential to my style. Although my style is rather informal (I prefer first name terms and a friendly approach) I am able to stay disciplined and helpful.
