Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified and experienced teacher of Modern Foreign Languages. I have taught in a school near Wakefield for 8 years and have been a private tutor for two years. I am a very enthusiastic and approachable teacher. I can offer languages teaching in French, Spanish, German, Italian and Japanese. I offer teaching at all levels: primary languages, with a view to possibly taking GCSE examinations early, Key stage 3, GCSE, iGCSE, AS and A2 levels and adult languages classes. I have experience in all areas of languages teaching and I throughly enjoy teaching languages!

I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to take the language of their choice. Therefore, I am happy to offer to help students take a GCSE or A level in a language which may not be available in their school. I can help with assessments and speaking tests in addition to a high standard of tuition to learn the language at the desired level and beyond.

I am currently learning Chinese as it has always interested me and as a teacher, I know that I need to remember what it is like to be a language learner!

References are available upon request.

Teaching Experience:

I have a PGCE qualification in Modern Languages and as part of my studies, I taught in two schools in North Yorkshire. I have been a teacher in a Specialist Language College near Wakefield for 8 years and a private tutor for 2 years. As a teacher in a Specialist Language College, I have taught KS3 and GCSE languages in addition to working in the community, teaching languages at local Primary Schools and carrying out Adult language classes.

For my private tuition, I have taught many A-level students in addition to primary students, GCSE students and adult learners. I have found this to be very interesting to see how people learn in different ways and develop their confidence in learning a new language or gaining extra support for language learning.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor, I always check to see what level each student is at in the first lesson. All lessons are tailored to the students' needs so they can get the most out of learning a language. I recommend useful resources and I am happy to lend books and DVDs from the extensive range of resources I have built up as a result of tutees' wishes. I have an excellent knowledge of the national curriculum and exam specifications of all the boards and I keep up-to-date with the many changes which may occur in education.

I look at all language skills although I may focus on one or two particular areas if this is what the tutee needs (such as listening and speaking if exams were not to be taken). I use ICT in my lessons and use many different websites and encourage students to use these at home and I help with grammar, even if it is the basics, as an understanding of this is essential to learning a language successfully!

I set homework tasks each week for students and I also offer a 'mid lesson service', where students can Skype or Phone so that I can check on progress or answer any questions. A quick chat in the target language is fine too! This service is free. I am also happy to answer any texts on the language- that is what I'm here for!

All new students are welcome. I always answer all requests so please also check spam folders just in case!

merci, gracias, grazie, danke, arigatou!

Personal Description:
I am a recent graduate of Japanese from the University of Leeds, where I studied both Japanese language and culture. As part of my degree I was able to study at a University in Tokyo for a year, and I also lived there teaching English on my gap year. I love Japan and really enjoyed living in such an amazing country. I want to open the door for others to learn Japanese and be able to go there and fulfil their dreams too.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience of teaching both Japanese to English speakers and English to Japanese speakers. I taught a Japanese course for GCSE students at a secondary school in Castleford, near Leeds, while I was doing my degree. We covered basic conversation, grammar and writing skills, and by the end of the course my students were able to hold basic conversations and use key vocabulary and phrases confidently.
I taught one-to-one business English at Gaba, a highly-regarded school in Tokyo, on my gap year, and on my year abroad I taught conversational English at Tokyo Women's Christian University, and also to private students.
All these experiences have given me insight into how to tailor lessons to the individual needs of students and how to teach effectively and helpfully.

Tutoring Approach:

I absolutely love teaching Japanese, and I think that's because I love studying Japanese. When I teach I create a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere where there is no pressure, so the student and I can talk and study naturally. Making mistakes is how you learn, so I encourage my students to try their best, even if they are not confident, and then we can review any mistakes that were made. I believe that grammatical and written skills should be developed hand-in-hand with speaking practice, so I will provide thorough tutoring in all areas of language learning. I am very friendly, and am a good listener. I endeavour to help students achieve their goals, and all I ask in return is that you try your best.

Personal Description:
I am a Japanese national who has completed three Japanese language beginners courses (10 weeks each) as a language instructor at colleges based in Liverpool and Manchester. In a formal course review exercise, I received excellent ratings from my college students with respect to the various teaching components of the course.

I am adept at recognising how best to target my teaching approach, particularly with respect to students who have little or no knowledge of the Japanese language using my fluency in verbal and written English and Japanese.

My teaching experience includes 18 months as a language instructor to college students in Japan, in one-to-one, and group teaching as an employee at a language school. In addition, I was employed in the Japan university sector as a translator of English to Japanese and vice versa, and as a business translator involving UK and Japanese companies. I therefore have language teaching experience acquired over several years in various settings.

My doctoral degree is sociology-based supporting the teacher-student interaction for making solid progress in learning.

Teaching Experience:

30 weeks in beginners Japanese at language colleges in Liverpool and Manchester
12 months providing English language instruction to college students in Japan
18 months English-Japanese language translator at a Japanese University
UK-Japanese business language interpreter and translator
Multiple students taught in private sessions from a wide background that includes the military, police, teachers, business professionals, university and college students, and other backgrounds.

Tutoring Approach:

I can provide personal tutoring and group tutoring as required in a large classroom specially set-up for teaching with an approachable and friendly style to engage students in fully comprehending an unfamiliar language. Tuition is provided in verbal and written Japanese using language props as an aid to understanding, with textbooks and specialist Hiragana teaching materials. I have excellent whiteboard writing skills and I am comfortable at teaching in both formal and less formal surroundings. Tuition can be arranged on a regular or irregular timetable according to the needs of the particular student(s).

I grew up in Japan, and have worked there for 1 year, and 2 years in Taiwan, so I have a good command of Japanese and Mandarin. I have the advantage over native speakers of having mastered them as a foreign language for myself, so I know from experience how to teach it.

I enjoy spending time with people, teaching, and passing on whatever knowledge I have, helping them improve their potential.

Teaching Experience:

2 years teaching teaching Japanese and Chinese to students one-to-one, and in small groups, from 5 years old to adult. I have also taught some lessons for the Japan Foundation in London.
1 year teaching in a Senior High School in Japan
2 years teaching in a Language school in Taiwan.
2 months teaching in Brighton.
2 years teaching one to one English.
Over 10 years as a language learner, so I have been in your shoes, and can share the innovative techniques and memorization methods I've used.

Tutoring Approach:

Student of Chinese said, "Ali tailored the lessons very well and ensured that learning Chinese from scratch was not intimidating. The resources were excellent with varied activities, and there was a lot of out of classroom support. I have enjoyed the lessons immensely and it has inspired me to continue learning Chinese. I would wholeheartedly recommend Ali as a teacher."
I will help you with your reading, writing, speaking, and listening, and have tricks to help you remember the written scripts easily.
With years of experience teaching foreign languages, I tailor your lessons to your needs, learning style, interests, and goals. I use varied resources, activities and role-plays allowing maximum participation, and an enjoyable, and effective learning environment.

Personal Description:
Nice to meet you! I'm Rebecca; I'm 24 years old and graduated from Bangor University with a BSc in Psychology with Clinical and Health Psychology. After university I spent a year as a specialist support worker for adults with autism and autistic traits. Following this, I spent nearly 2 years teaching English as a foreign language in Japan. Whilst in Japan, I also learnt how to speak conversational Japanese, and can also read and write hiragana, katakana, and first-grade level kanji.

I welcome any students with special needs; I have vast experience in the Psychological field and work well with anyone who needs that little bit of extra help and attention!

Please note: if you would like me to teach at your home or meet somewhere public, I do charge extra to cover my travel costs (30p per mile).

Teaching Experience:

My main teaching experience is the 2 years I spent teaching English as a foreign language in Japan. I designed the yearly teaching schedules, lesson plans, and then taught the lessons. My students were from the age of 3 to 65, so I have experience in teaching all ages.

Whilst in Japan I also tutored basic Japanese to foreigners living in the area; and I have also started tutoring Japanese and ELF since moving back to Northampton.

At university I volunteered for an activity group for disadvantaged children.

Prior to this, I often tutored my younger sister (who has Asperger's Syndrome) and helped her to understand her school work. I have also clocked up countless hours of babysitting for parents around the local area.

Tutoring Approach:

For teaching English as a foreign language, or when teaching Japanese, I believe a fun, active approach is the most effective. A short amount of time is spent drilling sentences and words; but then these new words and phrases should be used in role plays, games, or challenges to make the new vocabulary stick.

When teaching English or Psychology, debates about the subject material cause important points to be remembered, help students to structure their arguments more clearly, and let students consider what the most important points are and consider counter arguments.

Freelance Japanese tutor

-Over 2 years of teaching experience with beginners to intermediate level.
-Holder of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) level 1 (highest level)
-Fluent in Japanese and holder of a 1-year intensive Japanese course taken in Japan.
-Holder of Bachelors and associate degrees taught in Japanese and obtained from Tokyo International University

My technique consists in minimising English as much as possible.
This is the way I was taught Japanese. I have very comprehensive textbooks and activity books which enable that method.

Tutoring Approach:

The most important ingredient of the lessons is that they are fun and designed to equip the students with resourceful knowledge. My method is as follows:

-Assess the students' abilities and interests and tailor lessons to meet their needs
-Use flash cards, interactive games, songs (for children) , TV show extracts ( for listening practice)
-Lesson time involves 30% use of material suited to the lesson purpose, 40% oral practice (depending on the student`s needs) and 30% used to cover other areas such as grammar and homework correction.
-Lessons are interactive and include role playing where students engage in building sentences using the newly taught vocabulary and grammar items.

Personal Description:
I have recently started my course in Japanese and Linguistics and the University of Edinburgh. I am a native Japanese speaker and have lived in Sendai for 7 years before coming to school in England at the age of 11. I have a passion for the Japanese language and aspire to be a Japanese teacher after my course at university.

Teaching Experience:

My interpersonal skills have greatly improved through my voluntary work as a language tutor at schools and through my position as an organiser for various school and charity events. I have also had experience teaching English to a nursery school in Belgium and working as a teaching assistant in Spanish at Summercroft Primary School in Bishop's Stortford.

Last summer I completed three weeks of voluntary work at a school in India, which greatly enhanced my sense of responsibility, initiative and patience. My teaching skills greatly improved as I taught the students English and drama, despite having to face numerous awkward situations as a result of language and cultural differences.

Tutoring Approach:

My experience as a boarder at Hockerill College has taught me how to live and interact with others and has made me the friendly and approachable person that I am today. Although I am aware at how tough the Japanese language can be, from personal experience, I am also aware that you must enjoy the language and want to learn it in order to achieve the best. Therefore my aim would be to not only teach the student the syllabus in the book, but also include knowledge from my previous experiences and love for Japanese to hopefully make the student love it too.

Personal Description:
I lived in Japan from 2008 until 2013 and have studied Japanese for about 6 years at this point. I achieved the JLPT level 2 in 2012. I am currently studying towards the highest level of Japanese proficiency. I have an honors degree in Computing Science from the University of Glasgow.

Teaching Experience:

I taught as an English teacher full-time in Japanese Primary and Middle Schools during my time in Japan (2008 - 2013). During my time in Japan I also did some tutoring of people studying for the JLPT Japanese test.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a Jeet Kune Do approach to tutoring. Not all students require or respond to the same teaching methods as others. My first step is identifying the goals of the student (to speak casual Japanese, be able to read manga, pass JLPT level 3 etc) and then find what methods work well for them. I have used many different methods in my study of Japanese but I am not limited to those methods. For example, I learned Japanese kanji characters by a flashcard method that I developed for myself, but I have found that many people respond better to writing the characters down to learn them. I am flexible and willing to try whatever techniques the student excels with.

Personal Description:
I am an Italian native speaker currently reading for a doctorate in Japanese studies at the University of Oxford. Other than my native language, I can tutor in Japanese (10 years of studying plus highest proficiency certificate), German (12 years), French (4 years) Latin and ancient Greek (5 years respectively).

Given my different background in European as well as in Oriental studies, I am also available to tutor in a wide range of humanistic subjects, from history (western and eastern, classic and contemporary) to literature (English, American, italian, Japanese, German, French and classics). Furthermore, having been a university student, and an aspiring writer for a long time now, I am able to give advice and tutor in writing for school and university, as well as in general structure and grammar, both in English and in the above languages.

Apart from academics, my interests are cinema, books, comics, comedy, drawing, painting and sports. If you share my interests, or have other, it will be fun to talk about them in our classes.

Teaching Experience:

In the academic year 2011-2012, I taught and tutored in Italian at Smith College, Massachusetts, to advanced students and first-years. I tailored the lessons to the students' specific needs and any questions they might have. I also organised conversation groups with the first-years as well as introducing specific aspects of Italian culture, such as songs, food, and historical representations.

At Smith, I was responsible for privately tutoring Professor Susan Etheredge generally in the Italian language, as well as assisting her with written formal reports she would need for academic presentations in front of an Italian audience.

I have taught a variety of languages in different countries and settings. I have privately taught Italian, English and Japanese from 2003 to high-school and university students, and people with casual interest and different levels of knowledge.

I also tutor and give advice in academic writing and professional writing to university students in English and Italian.

Tutoring Approach:

Languages are multi-faceted living things that evolve constantly. That is why, in my lessons, I want to be as flexible and tailor the approach to the tutee's needs. Given that grammar is a fundamental aspect of the language, I would like to present it not as a boring, monolithic block that needs to be remembered mechanically, but instead as a tool with which a person can say in another language whatever he says in his/her own native one. We can tell the same English jokes in Italian, and talk about our favourite German book in Japanese. The language is out there for us to use it.

I would craft my lessons so to give students a solid background in the structure and grammar of the language (or history, literature, etc.) and then move on to the tutee's field of interest to expand vocabulary and mastery of the structure. That is because I believe that it is easier, and more fun, to learn about the things we like, rather than being stuck with sources that do not awaken our interest.

Also, since any language is the mirror of a people, it will be interesting to integrate the lessons with news and discussions about the cultural aspects (movies, music, history, food, sports and the like) that are expressed in that particular language.

Personal Description:
I have extensive experience with the Japanese language: 4 years on a honours course at Edinburgh University, a year in Doshisha, and 4 years in Osaka where I gained my masters degree in Japanese linguistics. My experience is very broad because my interest in Japan starts with the language and spreads out through the history, culture and literature. I love to have long conversations about Japanese culture and listen to others peoples impressions and experiences.

Teaching Experience:

I taught both Japanese and English for over 4 years while I lived in Osaka. I have taught children as young as 4 and adults as old as 92.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching in very much rooted in the traditional approach known as "kokugo". This approach is very much back to basics but at the same time I intend to provide the explanations of how and why seemingly arbitrary rules exist.
