Personal Description:
I'm a graduate primary PGCE student that has worked previously for a central government procurement department. My strengths include mathematics and science, however I am more than capable of getting students to achieve progress in their written, spoken and reading of English studies up to KS3.

My teaching style engages the learner to better understand the context in which they apply their learning rather than simply teaching them the rules to past tests. Giving students access to a variety of methods of how to problem solve is also important to creating flexible learners which will set them in good stead for higher education. Most students enjoy my lessons, especially when I theme lessons on a topic that they are interested in.

Personal Description:
My name is Miles Smith and I am 30 years old. I have worked as a teacher since graduating from the University of Warwick in 1999 with a degree in History. At the end of university I studied English Language Teaching in Spain through Oxford House College, where I received my TESOL Certificate, before heading to South Korea. I spent several years in East Asia, principally in Taiwan, where I worked as a teacher of young and very young learners (using English as the medium to teach all curriculum subjects), and then later specifically teaching adults at an exam preparation school. During this time, I gained considerable experience as a teacher trainer as well. Currently, I am doing my MA in ELT and Applied Linguistics through King's College in London. I will be based in Norwich from the beginning of September.

Teaching Experience:
I am a qualified English Language Instructor with 9 years experience teaching English both in the UK and also overseas. I have worked with a wide variety of age groups, from very young children to adults and provided one-to-one tuition for both children and adults, in both a general way and also academically for entry to university. My skills are mainly related to language, and how children or adults can access texts and discourse that is complicated for them.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is guided by a more general philosophy related to teaching, which is that lessons and instruction need to be adapted according to the needs of those learning. I believe in being well-prepared, but also in being flexible and creative, and helping my students help themselves. I think that a voice of encouragement is very important, but that equally important is realism and practical advice. I tutor intensively, and do not believe in wasting time, or leaving a session without feeling as though something has been accomplished or achieved. Saying this, I am far from being a stern master. I would consider myself open, relaxed, confident and engaging as a teacher, as well as being knowledgeable about my particular disciplines.

My name is Harriet and I am 20 years old. I am currently studying at Bristol University after finishing secondary school in London. Tutoring Approach:
I would start with finding out the area or areas in which the tutee is having problems. From there I take a certain approach depending on the ability of the person. Usually I find it helpful to learn vocabulary for languages and would give them homework learning vocabulary (as much as I think they could handle). I am a recent graduate from the University of Lincoln with a 2:1 graded BA (Hons.) Degree in International Relations. Thus my knowledge base covers politics, economics, history, sociology and criminology.

I graduated from Durham Univerity with a First Class Honours Degree in History in 2005. Although I do not currently work in a history-related role, my interest in the subject remains strong and I read history books on a variety of topics on a regular basis. My specialist subject at university was 20th century history, in particular modern American history (my dissertation was on Martin Luther King), the Cold War, the Second World War and the rise of Hitler. I am 23 years old, and I'm studying for a PhD in Politics at the University of Manchester. I passed my Masters with distinction (in International Politics) last year, and also hold a First Class BA degree in Politics and Modern History. I am passionate about education and my subject and want to help pass on my skills to others. Outside of University I run a project with local homeless people in Manchester and like working with different types of people.

Teaching Experience:
I have three months experience as a tutor at the University of Manchester, teaching international politics to undergraduate students. Personal Description:
I am studying Portuguese, Spanish and History at the University of Nottingham where I have just finished my second year. I grew up bilingual in Italian and English as I am Italian and enjoy learning more about languages, therefore Portuguese and Spanish were a natural step for me to take. I am enthusiastic about languages and feel they are important for everyone to learn whether for general interest, to learn about different cultures or to improve employment opportunities.
I am a highly people orientated person. I enjoy meeting new people and understanding different points of view. This has been a strong part of my interest of language and subsequently travel. I am an active person who enjoys sports, going out with friends, current affairs, reading and travelling.

Teaching Experience:
I tutored a year 8 pupil last summer (2008) for a month before I returned to Nottingham with the start of my university second year.

Tutoring Approach:
The main benefit I bring outside my experience with language is my enthusiasm for them and the fact that as a student myself I offer a different approach than the classroom teacher. I found this helpful in retaining my interest in languages when I was in school and I think that kids would find me more approachable in the way I found my Spanish assistant in school more fun and easier to relate to when I was in school. I like to use film and music as a learning tool as people generally relate to these better. However I also recognise the importance of grammar and being a student myself have developed methods I still use to understand it more easily and in greater depth. The most important thing in languages is relating to them and developing the motivation to learn them, the methods around this come easily with some guidance motivation is created.

I have over seven years experience tutoring privately. I particularly enjoy seeing a pupil master an area that had been previously inaccessible to that pupil and sharing the joy that is felt. Tutoring Approach:
I prefer not to be overly intrusive. I will guide and support pupils as much as possible and give them as much resources as they need. However, i do believe in encouraging pupils to learn at their own pace and within the constraints of their respective learning styles. I believe in empowering my tutees to 'discover' and to solve problems with my help as opposed to being totally reliant on me for the answers.

Personal Description:
I'm a recent graduate of the University of Sussex where I studied History with electives in film studies. My final year also had a particular focus of literature and philosophy.
I have recently moved back to the Cambridge area and am currently saving money in order to move abroad and teach English as a foreign language.

Whilst at college I took part in a tutoring scheme in the upper sixth, where more experienced second years could impart techniques and tips to first years as well as help with more specific problems and queries.
I have recently had the opportunity to observe teaching at a local language school in Cambridge, in preparation for teaching abroad.
During my final year at University I participated in revision and dissertation workshops where groups of students take it upon themselves to get together and help each other through with advise, as well as direct help such as proof reading.

I would take a very student based approach to tutoring, beginning with assessing each tutees particular strengths and weaknesses, as well as trying to asses how to get the best results out of them, as it is quite often the case that each individual has a different way of learning. Personal Description:
I am a 20 year old student at the University of Nottingham studying a BA in English and American Studies. My particular passions lie within the field of literature and writing (one of my hobbies). I am currently embarking on a creative writing course and so constantly learning new writing techniques.
