Personal Description:
Hello! I am Zephyr . About my professional background, I have been working in the IT Support and IT Training industry for the past 16 years. I have a HND in Computing a Information Technology.
In addition I also hold a TEFL Certificate which has enabled me to teach English as a foreign language which I really enjoy.

Teaching Experience:

I have a couple of students whom I teach remotely using the skype program. I prepare students for the KET, PET and FCE exams.

I do not wish to teach MS Office (IT) related courses anymore. I am interested in teaching Computer related studies upto GCSE level and basic website development. This would involve except how to setup and create basis websites and make use of the Wordpress platform specifically. This runs on Apache, PHP. MySQL (the database) and HTML technologies.

History, Biology and Geography have always been my pet subjects and I am very keen to share my enthusiasm and knowledge with those you need additional help in these subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

Firstly, I would assess your needs and type of lessons you want to have. We will then formulate a plan detailing the number of lessons and the topics to be covered. Once a plan has been agreed we will stick to this plan. This is necessary for the tuition to be effective. I will do my best to keep you motivated in the subject matter and act as your mentor.

Personal Description:
I am a confident and enthusiastic individual, with an acute passion for teaching. I am currently working as a teaching assistant in an Outstanding inner-city primary school, and want to take a post-graduate course in primary school teaching, a desire much encouraged by my class teacher and head of school. As an experienced dramatic performer and director, I enjoy effectively using these skills to aid children in their learning, leading to a warm, encouraging and happy learning atmosphere. I rapidly and easily create positive, personal relationships with colleagues and children, and believe education should be a creative and inclusive experience for all.

Teaching Experience:

Dog Kennel Hill Primary School
Teaching Assistant and Special Needs Support
Oct 2008 - Present

During the morning session, I am currently working in a Year One class in this south London school and thriving on aiding the children specifically with their literacy, reading and speaking skills as well as exploring numeracy work.
I lead certain lessons including story time and circle time.
I support key groups of children within the class and am able to use my initiative to plan, deliver and assess their learning in order to encourage progression.
I have vast experience in creating my own resources using ICT, and creating artistic displays to proudly exhibit the children's work.
I have taken courses in Early Literacy Support, encouraging creative and inclusive teaching especially for children with English as an additional language and complex special needs children. I also have training in "Letters and Sounds" Phonics, and "A First Workshop on Autism".
During the afternoon session, I support a child in Year Two with Autism. I plan and prepare all his lessons, working towards targets which I and the class teacher have set for him; these include phonics, counting and social skills. I use music as a reward system for the boy, and his singing has greatly improved his speech quality and communication skills.
I have extensive training in Autistic Spectrum Conditions, undertaken with Southwark, covering various aspects including history, sensory integration and behavioural management.
I work with various children with complex special needs within school, including children with Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Galactosemia, and have worked closely with speech and language therapists and learning mentors.
I offer one to one support outside of lesson time in the form of music lessons for special needs children; I prepare and provide my own resources and find singing with my students extremely rewarding.
I am in the process of setting up an after-school drama club for Key Stage One students at the school, having directed the infant school Christmas play this and last year.
I have also spent time in Key Stage Two classrooms, focussing on aiding older children with their literacy skills: I particularly enjoyed aiding Year Six students in exploring literary themes and using appropriate critical vocabulary when studying children's literature.

Stage Coach Theatre Arts
Early Years and Drama Teacher
Jan 2009 - Present
I am currently working in the Beckenham Junction branch of Stage Coach: using games and prepared resources, I teach my Early Stages children elementary levels of dance, drama and singing, allowing them to develop their confidence levels both on and off the stage. I have written and directed several productions for the children to perform over the year, showcasing their talents to their proud parents.
Since September I have taken on the role of drama teacher for the elder children aged six to sixteen. Through games, improvisation and text work, my students are encouraged to enjoy and improve their passion and talent for theatre in an open and safe environment.

The Tutors Group
Private Tutor
Sep 2008 - Present
In contrast to my primary school teaching experience, my private tutoring allows me to help young people of an older age and greater intellectual development further their learning.
I teach English Literature and Language, History, Theatre Studies and Classical Studies, from Primary, to GCSE and A-Level, Degree level and beyond.
I aid my students in improving their essay structure, spelling and grammar and discussing key thematic and conceptual elements of their required texts.
I plan and prepare lessons and constantly assess students, ensuring they receive high quality tutorage.

Classroom Teachers
Teaching Assistant
Sep 2008 - Oct 2008
I received thoroughly positive feedback from the schools in which I temporarily taught in the weeks preceding my permanent employment at Dog Kennel Hill; colleagues reported me as reliable, enthusiastic and hard-working, and possessing excellent interaction skills with the children themselves.
I gained vast experience with nursery and reception children, thriving on working with early years.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that the teaching of drama and theatre studies is often neglected within schools today, often purely due to lack of resources or funding; my aim is to introduce drama further into the English curriculum, whilst also indulging my passion for teaching literature and language to students. My aspiration is to teach English and Drama to GCSE and A-level students, and I would be delighted to tutor University students also, having recently gained such first-hand experience myself. My teaching experience with younger children has also cemented my love of early years tutorage.

A previous student, John Idowu-Agida, provides the following reference:

"I find her to be a very kind and helpful teacher, always punctual and with a smile on her face. I found that she is very supportive and motivating. She is more than willing to offer her assistance on any sort of English task given to her, helping you in a constructive, precise and proper manner. I greatly feel that you would benefit from having her as a tutor as I have had." (2008)

Personal Description:
I am currently undertaking a funded Ph.D. My research topic is on the role of fools and the philosophy of folly in Shakespeare. My thesis is entitled 'Shakespeare's Folly'. English literature and language are my primary disciplines. I graduated with a first class degree in English Literature and received a high distinction in my Master's degree, which were both from London University. My ultimate objective is to teach and research at university level. I am a keen individual, who values the arts and humanities. I believe education is not simply a means to an end; rather, it offers exciting and new ways of thinking about ourselves and the world around us.

While my background may be English literature, I have an extensive knowledge of history and philosophy having previously tutored both of these subjects up to 'A' level and IB level. One core skill that I have found my tutoring encourages is abstract thought. This is a useful skill both in and out of the class room.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience is fairly extensive. I have taught both in this country and abroad. I am most used to individual tutoring assignments in which I achieved a demonstrable improvement in my tutees' grades. In 2010 I lead a group course on "British Culture". This course was, in essence, an history of ideas in this country from the Roman invasion to the present.

I have some experience of leading university seminars. I run the University of London's Adorno reading group and have been published in several academic journals. At the other end of the spectrum, as an undergraduate I worked as a teaching assistant in primary and secondary schools.

Tutoring Approach:

I realise that at Key Stages 1,2, and 3 the emphasis needs to be on passing exams. At this level, I aim to provide an entertaining and relaxed session, which remains focused on providing and reinforcing the information required to pass an exam.

I hesitate, however, to say that my style is informal. I believe that when instructing younger children a certain amount of structure is required. This does not mean that the session needs be short-sighted; rather that we focus on a structured approach to attaining goals in an interesting and fulfilling way. At the higher levels or for mature students my approach is more relaxed. This more laid-back technique is strong preparation for university study.

Personal Description:
I am currently studying Classics at Bristol University and am going into my third year. My friends, family and tutees would consider me an approachable person, very patient yet hard working. I am a keen sportsman, playing football and rugby to a high level, and would say that sport is my main passion. I have experience as a football coach and referee for children up to the age of 13, and this coupled with tutoring has given me a lot of time to work with kids.

Teaching Experience:

I have much experience in tutoring for my youngest brother (age 13) and his friends, having taught them for the past three years. This has been particularly the case with regard to their Commen Entrance exams which they have just completed. This has mainly been in Latin, which I consider my strongest subject, but I also have in depth experience in Maths, History and Geography at this level, for which I have made concise and easy notes for my pupils.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to try to encourage confidence in the tutee and make them see that they can get things right by themselves, without me having to tell them. I therefore feel it is important to urge the tutee to attempt questions first before I help them out. Of course I would not let the pupil feel embarrassed at not knowing something, but I like to spoonfeed as little as possible, as I feel this is good preparation for exams.

With my own revision I have always felt it important to make concise and clear notes; I have also done this for tutees, taking their notes home and summing up everything they need to know in a manageable and easy way. For Common Entrance especially I have concise notes in Latin, History and Geography and can make more easily.

Personal Description:
I am a fourth year medical student at Imperial College London. Having recently been through high school and excelled in both GCSEs and A-levels, I know what it requires for a student to perform to the best of their ability. I am a strong believer that with hard work and the right guidance, most students can go on to achieve excellent grades.

Teaching Experience:

During my A-levels, I have helped teach younger students in Geography and Maths classes, but the majority of my teaching experience has been with my two younger brothers. I have worked very hard with them over the years and take pride in the fact that they too performed exceptionally well at school through my help.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to make my lessons interactive, explaining complex ideas in the simplest and most interesting way possible. I strongly believe that student must first develop a good conceptual understanding of the subject before refining their exam technique. I will work hard for my students and expect them to do the same in their studies.

Personal Description:
I have recently finished an undergraduate degree in English and French at Oxford and next October will start a masters in French and English comparative literature at Oxford. . At school I obtained 4 As at A Level and 11 A*s at GCSE. I am passionately interested in the arts, especially literature, and enjoy passing on my knowledge and enthusiasm.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored a wide range of subjects, abilities and ages, from primary school to adult education including A levels and GCSEs. I have also prepared candidates for Oxbridge interviews with an 100% success rate. While living in France I taught English as a foreign language and have taught French conversation to non-native speakers. Finally, I was a subject mentor at university, helping younger students with their work.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that a student finds it easier to learn when they are interested in their subject. Therefore, I attempt to foster an interest in and curiosity about learning. I enjoying teaching through different mediums, for example looking at film or TV adaptations of a novel or play. Moreover, as a recent student myself, my personal interest is fresher and therefore more stimulating than tutors who have been teaching the same old stuff for years.

Personal Description:
I recently graduated from Oxford University (Christ Church) with a BA (Hons) in History of Art, and am now reading for an MA in History of Art at the Courtauld Institute. Aside from studying I am learning Italian, enjoy playing piano and keeping up to date with current exhibitions, plays and concerts. I travel as widely as possible and enjoy enriching my academic work with the unique experiences and case studies such travel may afford.

Teaching Experience:

Since August this year I have been tutoring a number of clients in London at KS3 and GCSE level, in English, Sciences and Mathematics.
Additionally, during my A Level year I tutored of GCSE students, gaining a 100% A -C pass rate.

Tutoring Approach:

Having attended some of the most academically intensive institutions in the country, I am well suited to provide academic support and guidance to those wishing to improve their achievement, from primary to degree level.
I believe that the role of a private tutor is to create a tailor made, interactive and stimulating environment in order to help students grow and explore within their subject. I believe instilling confidence is key to this approach - I am a patient, friendly and approachable tutor and work hard to encourage an atmosphere in which honest discussion and a lack of self consciousness when learning are paramount. I provide support for all aspects of learning, from discussing homework to improving core skills.

I am familiar with exam board requirements for each subject, and as a tutor work towards success in exams, but also towards a greater enrichment above and beyond curricula.

Personal Description:
I am Scottish, currently living in South of Spain and coming to live in London in December 2012. I enjoy the outdoor life, in particular riding my horse and walking my dogs. However, my two sons and my little grandson live in London and so I want to spend some more time with them and enjoy city life again for a change. I also teach yoga and am looking forward to undertaking more training.

Teaching Experience:

I am a graduate of Glasgow University and a PGCE qualified primary teacher with over 25 years experience. The breadth of my experience includes special needs, in particular with children on the autistic spectrum and dyslexia. I have lived in Spain for several years and have worked in International Schools as Year 3 and Year 5 teacher and also as a private tutor. Having worked extensively as a private tutor with different nationalities I am also experienced in EAL.

Tutoring Approach:

Communication, for me, is the key to harmony. As a tutor, I believe in locating where the individual is on his/her own personal road map. Thus I can gain an understanding of what the child/young person's needs are and how they view the world and their place in it. From there we can establish together what their motivation is and so learning becomes an exciting journey. I believe that if children are happy and motivated they cannot help but learn but it is crucial to identify the learning style and communicate accordingly.

Personal Description:
I am currently a 2nd year Politics student at the University of York and would love to use my educational experience to help other young people. After 's Catholic Secondary School I achieved 3 A*s, 7 As and 3 Bs in my GCSEs and then went on to achieve 3 A*s and an A in my A levels (including General Studies) at Peter Symonds College, Winchester. The A*s were achieved in Government and Politics and English Literature, but I was also very passionate about Classical Civilisations (the A) during my time at college and would love to teach in that area. Unfortunately there was not an option for this, so History tuition would actually mean Class Civ.

Teaching Experience:

While I have no former teaching experience, I am very good at working with people younger than me, having volunteered at various church groups. I would be willing to offer one free session in order to prove my teaching ability before you commit to me as a tutor.

Tutoring Approach:

I would aim to teach in a casual learning environment where my pupil saw me as an equal to them in order to create an atmosphere that is both productive, but also confidence and self-esteem building. I would urge any pupil to apply their own knowledge to the question so that they might challenge the limits of their own knowledge, and then assist through skills building exercises. I think that when you break subjects down, their solutions can become apparent, and essay-writing subjects can be tackled through basic exercises and formulae similarly to STEM subjects.

Personal Description:
I recently graduated from UCL, achieving a first class degree in English Language and Literature from the best English department in the country. The degree has given me experience of working at a high academic level, and I have adopted skills such as research, essay writing, essay formatting, effective revision and creative writing. I can show how simple it is to improve essays or homework by writing good introductions and conclusions, using literary critics and quotations, and analysing prose or poetry. UCL is the only university still providing one-on-one tuition, and after having had a personal tutor for three years as part of my degree, I can apply what they have taught me to my tutoring: looking at past essays to see how they can be improved, practising essay structure and enhancing the grammar and style of writing. Help with computer literacy such as writing in Word documents and blogging can also be provided.

I am also available to teach English as a foreign language, whether for school, exams or for personal improvement. Lessons could be planned and work on grammar and vocabulary or be structured to improve conversation, whatever is most needed. I have received pronunciation (a standard English accent) and can help to improve spoken English.

I can tutor up to degree level, and am happy to work with primary or secondary school pupils.

I am currently studying for an MA course in Modern and Contemporary English literature, which requires little time in university and makes me flexible on tutoring hours.

I can show a CRB check and references on request.

Teaching Experience:

I have a range of experience teaching all age groups. In 2010 I travelled to Cambodia for a month to teach English language at a charity school in Phnom Penh; my pupils ranged form nursery age to adults.

I have also worked two summers full time in an English language school where I had full responsibility of children and teenagers. As well as helping the students to improve their English, we supervised them on day trips. My employer praised me for often being chosen as 'best activity leader' on the students' feedback forms.

Last year I took part in an outreach programme at my university which involved teaching human rights and activism at a London sixth form college on behalf of Amnesty International. We had a series of lessons on different aspects of human rights abuse and campaigning which led up to a fundraiser raising money for Amnesty.

My current students range from secondary school age to Masters level are very happy with my tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that a gradual build-up of confidence is integral to learning literacy skills. Learning skills on by one, such as editing or memorising, makes the tasks seem simple, yet leads up to a large and complex understanding of how to do well at English. Working at the student's own speed is important, in order that they grasp one aspect of writing before tackling another. My approach is to find the weak areas in a student's studying and work on these, without making any task seem too daunting. Exam technique and the knack of writing what an examiner is looking for are also main objectives.

I have always been told that I am a natural with children and at teaching. I would love to help you by passing on what I have learned during my education.

Personal Description:
I am currently employed as a part-time Teaching Associate in the Department of History, University of Nottingham. I also teach at the University of Leicester. I cover all periods of history from the Middle Ages onward, but have a specialization in medieval and early modern history. Prior to becoming a university lecturer, I worked in the Ministry of Defence for 22 years, where I was employed in a wide range of activities including intelligence analysis, protective security advice and training. I am married, and apart from my love of history, enjoy a wide range of activities with my wife.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience started at the MOD, where for some 6 years I designed, ran, and evaluated a range of training courses. I also achieved the professional Chartered Institute of Personnel Development's qualification in training. My university teaching began when I was taking my Ph.D at the University of Nottingham, where it has continued. I mainly teach first year undergraduate modules, but have also considerable experience of second, third and MA teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is based on my preferred method of running seminars, namely, that I have a basic structure, including key points to be discussed, but I like to remain as flexible as possible, based on the learning style of the students. I like to encourage discussion, and try to create a friendly atmosphere.

Personal Description:
I have a first class history degree from Oxford University and an MMus from the Guildhall School of Music.

Teaching Experience:

I have over a year's experience working as a tutor, both in the UK and overseas, teaching history and other humanities subjects to students of secondary school age.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching method is comprehensive and highly structured. It centres around assessing the needs of each pupil and tailoring my approach to meet their individual learning style. My aim in a session is to leave the student feeling comfortable with whatever topic has been covered, but also enthused and willing to study more. I try to find ways to make studying as fun as possible by combining a tutee's personal interests with the curriculum we need to cover. Whilst achieving the desired grade is always of paramount importance, I also hope to create a sense of academic fulfillment and to instil in my students a true love of learning. I encourage students to be curious and to ask questions whilst giving them all of the support and the skills they need to excel.

Personal Description:
I hold a BA hons and Masters degree (distinction) in History and Politics from the University of Exeter. I was graded outstanding for my PGCE in Secondary History. I continued this onto Masters Level, completing my MEd last year.

Teaching Experience:

I taught for three years in a selective boys grammar school in Devon, where I worked in a thriving History and Politics department (ranked among the top 10 of History and Politics departments nationally according to GCSE and A Level exam results). I am now teaching History and Politics to A Level at a very reputable private school in Chester, and the department achieves an exceptional number of A*/A grades at GCSE, AS and A level. I am experienced in various examination boards for both subjects including Edexcel, AQA and Cambridge IGCSE. I have taught a range of exam modules, from Crime and Punishment through time, the Russian Revolution, 20th Century Protest, Henry VIII authority, nation and religion to 19th Century Britain parliamentary reform. I am also an Edexcel examiner (marking GCSE and A Level papers) and am well versed in exam technique as well as being able to offer an insight into what examiners are looking for in GCSE, AS and A2 exam responses.

Tutoring Approach:

I work to instill a genuine enthusiasm for History and Politics, as well as developing a sound understanding of the topics covered during tutoring. I use and prepare engaging resources as well as a diverse range of teaching methods, which enable students to learn both the content and the skills needed to succeed in their examinations. It is my belief that tutoring sessions should not just involve the regurgitation of facts on the part of the student; rather, it should empower students with the confidence and knowledge they need to secure the grades they're capable of.

I tailor my sessions to best fit the needs of the students; whether that is through honing exam technique, or gaining an in depth understanding of the course content. I am able to target my sessions to suit all levels of ability.

Personal Description:
My name is Adam and I am 22 and a third year student at the University of Edinburgh, studying for a MA in History. I have studied a variety of topics particularly the past two centuries of British, Russian and American history, but I have also studied Roman, Chinese, and African histories as well as the histories of medicine and science. I am, however, knowledgeable about many other areas of history and able to teach the skills required to study any period.

I achieved an A* and full marks in my final exam of my History A-Level as well as As in Economics and Maths and 10 GCSEs A*-A. I thoroughly enjoy the act of teaching and love to pass on my knowledge to students and see them develop and flourish. Outside of academic studies I am a keen sportsman, playing football, rugby and cricket on a weekly basis.

Teaching Experience:

After achieving my A-levels and leaving school, I returned the following year to help A-level students with their exam preparation and their long essay projects. I spent a week working with students on a one on one basis to give them guidance and practical advice for their studies.

I privately tutored a student from my old secondary school and developed my own skills of working with students as well as providing him the relevant skill-set to succeed in the discipline and he subsequently achieved a high grade in his History A-Level.

At university I have made class presentations detailing key periods in history in which I have specialised and have passed on to classmates the knowledge which I have learned. I have also helped peer review essays and helped several classmates with essay structure and writing skills.

Tutoring Approach:

Each student has an individual style of learning and as such need to be tutored in a unique way which keeps them interested in the subject and stretches them to reach their potential. I am very enthusiastic about the subject and believe that students learn best when they too are able to connect with the subject they are looking at.

I believe that one of the most important skills to learn as a student of history is to be able to write confidently and coherently. Once this skill is acquired, students will be able to rapidly advance to learn the essential skill of critical analysis of the evidence put before them.
