I have just completed my PhD in Creative and Critical Writing at UEA. I also have an MA (Distinction) in Creative Writing from Royal Holloway, and a First Class Honours Degree in English Literature. I gained straight Firsts in every module I studied. I also have a good Fine Art degree from Chelsea College of Art and Design. I have been a private tutor for twelve years, and have taught many children in that time.

I am currently tutoring in the North London area, including Tottenham and Enfield. I am also offering Creative Writing courses for children in the Sutton area during the school holidays.

I'm a 41 year old lady, and am an aunt, godmother and childminder to several children.

I would also like to offer the tutoring services of my colleague, who will also be working in the Tottenham area. His specialist area is history, that is, 15th century history onwards, with special knowledge of 17th, 19th and 20th century British history. He is fully able to provide support with GCSE, A-Level and undergraduate syllabuses, with a BA Hons and an MA in Political History.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught at undergraduate level at university as well as writing skills in an academic skills centre. I have also taught SATs to thirteen year olds. I have a PTTLs degree level 4 qualification and taught on an Access Course to adult learners. For GCSE, I have a 75 per cent success rate of my students achieving As and A*s. My other students, whose first language may not be English, achieve Bs.

I have taught AQA, OCR and EDEXCEL syllabuses at GCSE and AQA at A-Level.

Please note that I do not teach any Eleven-Plus or verbal reasoning syllabuses and that I prefer to teach older children (13 plus)

Tutoring Approach:

I use creative writing exercises with my students to allow them to develop their writing skills, as well as their creativity and imagination. This approach has been very successful with my SATs pupils. I also use past exam papers, model essays, and devote time and attention to close reading of set texts at GCSE and A-Level. I have also recently branched out into giving art lessons and I helped out at an arts and crafts club at the local school.

I can also provide Skype lessons and find this has been successful with older and university level students.

I have a friendly, professional approach and find I develop a real rapport with my pupils, who find their results and confidence improving with my tutelage.

I have also been involved in setting up a Limited Company which aims to provide academic resources to students in Higher Education (at University level).

My work experience in the healthcare, higher education and training business sectors over the last 13 years has also given me the opportunity to develop a range of teaching / training styles that will suit most learners very well.

Teaching Experience:

Over 8 years experience, delivering 1-2-1 tuition to students aged predominantly 6-18.

Most common subjects taught - English / Maths / Science (up to GCSE). Also worked extensively with adults in the local community, training people in basic computing skills relevant to their specific needs.

Tutoring Approach:

I follow the National Curriculum, with set lesson plans for each tutor session.

We will follow a learning plan that will run alongside school teaching. I do not help with school homework on a regular basis. Instead, I use the time I spend with each student, to improve their areas of weakness, so that they can do their homework and coursework / assignments with confidence themselves.

Lesson 1 is always a discussion of what the student / parents wish to achieve, along with an assessment of the students current capabilities. If you would like the first lesson to be more productive, I can send the assessment to be completed before the first class. The assessment will need to be returned 24hrs before the first planned lesson so I can look it over and plan my teaching approach for the student.

Teaching styles / tools:
- Each lesson will have a starter discussion about any areas of concern in school - I will make notes and plan to work on those areas in the next lesson.

- We will then work on a mini-project together, which will help the student to learn and develop a range of skills that he/she can then use in their own coursework / homework assignments.

- For subjects which involve reading, the student will be given homework to read a chapter / section for discussion at the next class.

- For Maths / Science, there will be worksheets which the student will need to complete on his/her own after lesson.

- If at any time there are any questions / concerns from the students or parents, I am more than happy to spend part of the lesson in discussion about these with you.

- All lessons are taught in an informal and positive / open-discussion style. But in order to make lessons successful and get the most out of your learning plan, please ensure that there is somewhere quiet to work, and that you have all of the required equipment / stationery beforehand (i.e. pens / pencils / eraser / ruler / calculator / notebook or note paper etc).

- It would also be useful to have internet / wifi set up, to use either with your own computer, or with mine to access online resources.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
All student details are kept confidential and you can be assured that no personal information will be shared with anybody else. However, I may ask permission to use student's work as an example of how to achieve highly in assignments / homework, with other student. Again, all personal details would be removed.

The minimum time per lesson is 1 hour per week for regular bookings.

Semi-Intensive courses can be booked at 2+ hours per week with prior agreement.

Intensive 2-4 week courses can be booked with daily lessons close to exam times. These have very limited spaces available and would include longer classes if need be, depending on how the student performs during our initial assessment.

Intensive courses are also very useful for students wanting to pass grammar school entrance examinations or prepare for other specific exams and assessments.

Teaching Experience:

I taught in a secondary school for over six years until 2006 and since this time have been tutoring full time. I have experience across the 10-18 age and ability range. I am experienced in working with lower ability children, including those who have a Statement for Educational Needs.

However, I now mainly concentrate teaching GCSE and A-level:
I teach both English Language and Literature up to GCSE. I also teach History at both GCSE and A-level. I am experienced and skilled in exam preparation.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a patient and caring teacher and before I start with the lessons I discuss with the parent and the pupil their subject weaknesses. I also discuss what they are learning in school not only to give me the ability to help them understand the subject, but also to enable me to know what they want to achieve through my teaching. I give homework and then discuss with the pupil the different ways that they can make improvements so that they gain confidence with their studies. In certain cases I do not give homework as the schoolwork might be heavy.

After each lesson I always make time to talk to the parent to discuss what I have taught their child and tell them what homework has been set. This way the parent, pupil and myself can give immediate feedback.

I have excellent people skills and try to build a good relationship with my students so that they enjoy their lessons.

I have recently completed my Ph.D, which was about the philosophy of folly in Shakespeare's plays.

Whereas English Literature, Language and Philosophy are my primary disciplines, I have also taught German and History up to A-Level standard. I graduated with a First Class degree in English Literature and received a high distinction for my Master's degree, which were both from London University. I am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy, which means that I am qualified to teach at university-level.

My ultimate objective is to teach and research at university level. I am a keen individual, who values the arts and humanities. I believe education is not simply a means to an end; rather, it offers exciting and new ways of thinking about ourselves and the world around us.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience is fairly extensive and I have taught both in this country and abroad.

For the last two years, I have lectured and led seminars at Royal Holloway, University of London; I have also continued to teach A-Level and GCSE students English, Philosophy and History as I have done since 2009.

In 2010, I designed and taught a course for American university students, which was called "British Culture". This course was, in essence, an history of ideas in this country from the Roman invasion to the present.

My work has been published in major academic journals and my thesis is currently under consideration by publishers. At the other end of the spectrum, as an undergraduate, I worked as a teaching assistant in primary and secondary schools.

Tutoring Approach:

I realise that at Key Stages 1,2, and 3 the emphasis needs to be on passing exams. At this level, I aim to provide an entertaining and relaxed session, which remains focused on providing and reinforcing the information required to pass an exam.

I hesitate, however, to say that my style is informal. I believe that when instructing younger children a certain amount of structure is required. This does not mean that the session needs be short-sighted; rather that we focus on a structured approach to attaining goals in an interesting and fulfilling way. At the higher levels and for mature students my approach is more relaxed.

Personal Description:
I graduated in Classics (5 years) in Italy. I made extensive studies in Ancient Greek and Latin languages and literatures. The final thesis dealt with the historical fragments of Cato the Censor. I am now leading a research doctorate in Roman history at the University of Newcastle. The research concerns the tribunes of the plebs within the Mid-Republican period (218-134 BC), especially focused on the political role of the tribunate in shaping the Roman politics through their legislative action. My first language being Italian, lessons are available both in English and in my mother tongue. As for the Italian literature I can cover all the centuries of its great history, from the pre humanistic time (Dante, Petrarca, Boccaccio), until the twentieth century.

Teaching Experience:

I have had experience of teaching in the italian school as a substitute teacher of Latin, Italian and Ancient Greek at the Liceo Classico. I also taught at Universities, most notably Latin and Ancient Greek, in quality of private tutor.

I run seminars in Roman History during the first academic term (2015-2016) at Newcastle University, focusing particularly on the works of the Greek historian Polybius, Sallust's historiographical view concerning the role of the common Roman people in order to determine the events described within the Bellum Iugurthinum, and the political issues of the last period of the Roman Republic that emerge from Cicero's speech Pro lege Manilia.

Tutoring Approach:

Lectures, with particular attention to the requests of the student. Translation exercises (focused on the morphology and syntax of both Ancient Greek and Latin), which are essential to strengthen and, if necessary, to deepen their knowledge of the classical languages​​. Additional readings compared to the tasks assigned by the school.

Throughout my prior educational years I have had a strong passion for both Physical Education and History, and was able to learn a great deal under some fantastic teaching methods. Whilst in Primary School i was enrolled with a tutor and found the experience valuable and gave me a step ahead when taking exams.

Teaching Experience:

Although no current teaching experience, I have realised that eventually I would like to go into a full time teaching role, and with my previous experience would find an opportunity of tutoring and teaching extremely rewarding.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is that learning can be very easy given the correct manner in which taught.

I would be willing to listen to pupils and parents and engage in where they feel they need to improve as well as teaching the curriculum required to have a good understanding and knowledge of the subject in hand.

Personal Description:
As a recent university graduate, I offer a closer bond with students than most tutors due to the lesser age gap. Many exams that students struggle with are ones that I myself have taken, so I can empathise and relate to issues students face on a better level than older tutors. I graduated in English Literature from UEA with a 2:1, achieved A*AA at A Level in English, Philosophy and History, and obtained 10 GCSEs at A* to A and 2 more at B. I was educated at Wilson's School in Surrey which during my time there was consistently ranked as one of the best boys' state schools in the country, and indeed was at number 1 in the rankings for a few years while I was there.

I am currently working towards an MA qualification with a view to going on to a PhD to pursue a career in academic lecturing and tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

Most of my experience comes from being on the receiving end of teachers and tutors from entrance exam up until university, and understanding their shortcomings and failings and what could have been done better. Crucially, I understand student mentalities and what students want and need at all levels. I have tutored Year 5-6s in Maths and Year 10-11s in English so far. Since joining UK Tutors I have taught a 9 year old in writing skills and a 15 year old in GCSE English.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer a fun and friendly way of helping the student to realise their full potential through going over schoolwork, practice papers and other forms of assessment - but critically, I focus on talking with and building a relationship with the student. I don't want them to see tutoring as just another school classroom with another teacher - it should be a fun and intellectually stimulating environment that they enjoy participating in. My experience has shown that if the student is enjoying themselves, they will perform to a far better standard.

I can offer high level teaching in English and History, as well as Philosophy, Critical Thinking and German to an A Level standard, Maths and Sciences up to GCSE standard, other subjects can be discussed.

Crucially, I was a master at dealing with exam pressure and good coursework - I will provide expert tutoring for students suffering from exam stress and help them to format and write essays for coursework. As I did much of the same things just a few years ago, I understand better than anyone what it feels like!

Personal Description:
Let me introduce myself, I've been an Enrichment Teaching now for over 20 years, my area of teaching has been dedicated to the younger generation between 3-12 year-olds, offering unique individual study support from: homework projects, enrichment programs, to the school curriculum.

I originally set up my first Pre-school Enrichment Centre in 2002, which I'm proud to say, is still running 15 years later in North London, England. I'm also part-owner of an Enrichment Centre in Boca Raton, Florida.

Over the years I've experienced many different formats in teaching. Personally, I believe a 3-dimensional method offers more growth, as it provides children with the opportunity to learn through styles that best suits their individual needs and helps build confidence and success.

No matter if your child is enhancing in subjects, or just needs that personal TLC to catch up, opening that door of opportunity is the best thing any parent and tutor can offer.

Teaching Experience:

I'm qualified through Cambridge University, with a Cambridge primary teaching Diploma, Child Educational Psychology. Nova South-Eastern University, Fort Lauderdale FL: Florida Requirement in Teaching and communication.
Barnet College; (Level 3) NVQ Certificate in Child Development. Second Language TEFL/TESOL)

I believe there is nothing more rewarding, than supporting children to grasp the fundamental basics, watch them progress with confidence and enhance their ability to achieve goals.

I have been teaching pre-school and primary around the world for 15 years, from UK, France, and America.
Over the years, this has allowed me to observe education from both sides, the child's view and the teaching curriculum, providing me with the opportunity to offer children many different styles and methods to expand their understanding.

Tutoring Approach:

Every child is unique when it comes to learning, and every child has their own different approaches to understanding a subject.
As a tutor, it's extremely important to always focus on each child's individual needs, and offer as many methods to support them build confidence, ability, and successful grades.
