Personal Description:
I have an easygoing and pleasant demeanour, a nice sense of humour, and I generally get on well with my tutees. Although I like to have a friendly relationship with my tutee, I try to employ a professional manner at all times. I am a man in his early, middling years, who enjoys seeing others fulfil their potential.

Teaching Experience:

I am an experienced teacher, who has taught privately one to one for a number of years. I have primarily taught English on a one to one basis for tutees who are preparing for their GCSE and "A" level examinations, but I am also experienced in helping tutees improve their literacy skills from a young age. I also have a wealth of experience of teaching English as a Foreign language on a one to one basis. I have taught in a number of language schools over the years, and at one point started a language school in southern Italy. I have considerable experience teaching English up to "A" level standard in secondary education, and I have over fifteen years experience to draw upon.

Tutoring Approach:

One to one teaching, by its nature, is very intense, so it is very important to introduce variety as much as possible. A mixture of written work, as well as oral work, if required is essential to keep the tutee focused and interested in what you are teaching. It helps, sometimes, after an intense session, fot the tutee to have a short break, before continuing.

Personal Description:
New Bulletin, Tuesday October 28th

The new year is settling down nicely with all students progressing well or better! GCSE coursework, A level essay-writing, A level coursework, Oxford University HA Test, these are the issues on the table as I write, alongside helping with the usual content issues: Why did this happen? How did this lead to that? Why is this important? Why isn't this? What's happening here? What does it mean? The eternal questions for historians at all levels.

Above all - perhaps - it's the training of the student that's as important as anything. Getting them to see, to understand what taking an A level means, how an A level student needs to organize themselves. This is not about keeping your folder neat but how to organize yourself mentally, psychologically. How to approach the whole thing as if this is just a large project that needs to be managed carefully and well.

I am still available on weekend mornings and Tuesday late afternoon/early evening. If those times don't suit, just ask, tell me roughly where you are, and I'll see if I can fit you in.

Now to some duller stuff.

August 2014
Some very gratifying successes this August: 90%+ across 3 taken History exams w/ one student: C at AS Summer 2013: 6 ums marks off an A*, Summer 2014. WOW! This is what happens when student and tutor work in harmony, and when the student is really hungry to learn and improve. Also, AS ECONOMICS! My first AS level Economics teaching, taking on a student "who has given up" according to his teachers, on course for a U. We worked on one of the two modules for just 4 weeks: grade D achieved in the exam. This is what happens when the student trusts the tutor's optimism and follows advice.

So, my name is Craig, a very dedicated one-to-one tutor of History, Politics and English. I offer an exceptionally high level of expertise as a history, politics (and English) teacher, teacher of essay writing, exam writing and exam taking. This is based on well over two decades of experience in schools and in homes. Though I have been teaching a long time, I am continually striving to improve the quality of my work, constantly analyzing the effect of my advice on performance and trying to perfect the art and craft of the job.

When not tutoring, most of my time is spent working (hard!) as a student too! I am just about to begin the third year of my PhD, supervised by Professor Tony Collins of De Montfort University, Leicester, undertaking research in 20th century British history. (Rugby fans might like to note at this point that Tony is the number one rugby historian - of all codes - in the world. All his books are very well worth reading.)

I am exceptionally well qualified. I have an MA (2011) in History and am now two years into my doctoral studies. I have written fiction and non-fiction. I have had experience in being an A level marker with an exam board. I have had long experience in teaching and preparing whole History & Govnt. & Politics year groups for A level, producing outstanding results.

I take on all types of students. Some need a lot of training, some need to be dragged away from a collision-course with failure, some need finessing, some need waking up, some need inspiring, some need a boost in confidence; some need more intellectual stimulation; all can and do improve their writing.

My chief strengths are: 1. I know how to teach students to write. 2. I know how to prepare them for exams. 3. My methods are clear, simple and work beautifully. 4. I care very much about the progression of my students. 5. I treat my work with them with the utmost seriousness. 6. But I'm a human being with a sense of humour! 7. I am very, very experienced. 8. As a parent of three children who have gone through the school and university experience, I understand what both the student and the parent is going through.

I am very happy to work with students online. I have found it to work extremely well.

More on my current research project...
I am currently working on doctoral research into the BBC, sport and social class, 1922-64, with Tony Collins at De Montfort University, Leicester. He is the director of DMU's International Centre for Sports History & Culture, a department of world renown, and the leading British powerhouse of sports history. I am very proud to be working with Tony and within the department. Undergrad students should note that I am working under one of the world's best historians, a 3-time winner of the prestigious Aberdare Prize for Sports Books.

Becoming a student again, beginning with the masters degree course at De Montfort University in 2010 has really helped my teaching. As well as keeping on top of developments in academic history. I am much better read! I know more! It has also taken me right back in touch with what it feels like to be a student and all that follows from that. It has also enabled me to extend my tutoring potential to undergraduates and masters students.

I'm happily married with 3 children fully grown (it's only their father who's lagging behind).

Teaching Experience:

I taught for 24 years in secondary schools in Bromley, Kent and Derbyshire where I now live. History was my specialism but I was head of Politics for a number of years in the last part of my school career. I also taught Geography, Economics, English and R.E.

Since beginning to tutor students, I have taught history, Government & Politics and English (including basic literacy skills to a young person with dyslexia). Courses taught have mostly been those at GCSE and A level.

I have taught a wide range of topics within French, German, Russian and British history. The list includes the usual suspects: causes of World Wars 1 and 2, Hitler and the Third Reich, the Russian revolution and Stalin as well as aspects of Irish and Chinese history and 19th century France and Russia. Since becoming a PhD student my expertise level in terms of content knowledge has leapt forward in 20th century British history. However...

...it isn't the historical content of the course that matters so much: technique is the key; know-how; how to write; how to take an exam; how to prepare for the whole exam period; how to approach the whole thing mentally, psychologically; how to be the best you can be; how to be successful - end of story!

I have worked with students on exam preparation and revision, coursework planning and execution and essay writing techniques. It is here that the battle to improve and to reach a fulfillment of potential, often with the reward of high grades, is usually won.

Tutoring Approach:

I don't tinker around the margins of issues. I give students something all those who come for help require: a method to use to dispose of the problems posed by the issue of writing that dreaded thing: the essay! Not a tinkering round the edges of the thing, a tip here, a bit of advice there, but a comprehensive yet simple and absolutely clear set of actions and principles through which the student can fulfill their potential: show the examiner what they know and understand of the topic.

Following on from the above, my approach to tutoring begins and ends with the drive to be successful. If I did not unfailingly improve students, help them to achieve the grades they want and need I would not be writing this.

In between comes what we might describe as philosophy and methods. It's hard to write about methods without immediately mentioning what I suppose might be my strongest "offer" (I don't much like that word but there, I've used it). As a schoolteacher I developed a unique but simple method of essay planning and writing that achieved stunning results. So successful has it been over 20 years that I am astonished that no one else seems to have found it. But in my experience up to February 2013 no teacher has. Essay writing is still something that many, many students find difficult and confusing. It really does not need to be this way.

Obviously content issues are hugely important and here I rely on my communication skills which have yet to let me down! These, naturally, go hand in hand with a knowledge of British and European history across a variety of years which has grown over recent years particularly through my MA studies, my PhD research and through working with students on a range of historical periods, topics and people. I find myself to be adaptable to different types of students. I am able to adapt my language and my technique to fit the situation. I am also somewhat stubborn in that I never give up on solving a problem. If we have to go over time, so be it!

Finally, some more of my personal philosophies of teaching. I believe that students generally do not achieve their potential. With each student I aim to take them to standards (and grades) that they did not think were possible. Without exception I push, push and push until we run out of time as we inevitably do. I also do not believe in lost causes. Much can be achieved in a very short space of time. I have seen this happen over and over again.

There is much more to be said but that, I hope, will do for now.

Craig

Personal Description:
Hello,

I'm a 28 year old from the Old Trafford/ Stretford area of Manchester, I graduated in Law from Lancaster university in 2008 but currently work in Banking/finance. I am an individual who is quite fond of reading, debating and discovering new things. I would say I am quite lively, not too difficult to get on with, very ambitious but also with an equal dash of a patience for I am a patient individual. Although I am admittedly not fantastic at sports I do play badminton and football from time to time I can play a range of sports but those tend to be the main two. I am a massive fan of education and self development. The colossal impact both areas can have upon our lives is incalcuable, as such I tend to be never too far away from reading a book or learning something new to further myself.

Teaching Experience:

I have mainly gained a lot of my early teaching experience through tutoring younger siblings and assisting the junior year students either at college or University with areas which they either required either extra help in or further knowledge. As such I have further developed this over the last four years and I am confident that the contribution which I have made to those who I have helped has been substantial in helping them to progress onwards to the next stage and beyond. As such I would hope to extend this towards any student who desires to take me on board and to progress until they are ready for the task at hand.

As I have progressed over the years, teaching various and numerous tutees, my own personal & teaching experience has grown exponentially year on year. As such I believe I can approach any teaching scenario and offer the required angle to ensure success as a result of previous experience yet I still take each student on a case by case/ individual basis rather than a blanket approach.

Tutoring Approach:

I begin my approach with an informal but analytical conversation with the student, parent or both in order to assess strengths and areas where we can develop a plan of action or just to establish face to face what it is we will be doing in the time we have. I will aim to take each stage step by step until both you and I are satisfied that we are confident in understanding and explaining coherently the relevant information. I will be professional but understanding as patience dictates, most importantly any work set during the session will be wholly relevant, comprehensible and creative in order to match your needs.

I do incorporate digital media or a whiteboard depending on the subject if a visual element is required in teaching. Presentations can be sent via email at any time as well.

*For any LPC students I can also tutor and instruct in Solicitors accounts too.

Personal Description:
I am a professionally trained actor. I have written for numerous publications, with stories and poems published regularly. I am confident with public speaking, since I have been performing in diverse venues for nearly 10 years. I have an MA in Acting and an MA in Theatre & Performance Studies. I have professional training in elocution, pronunciation as well as accent and dialect work.

I am a keen footballer, and believe in the importance of keeping fit and eating healthily. I also love travel, gardening, fixing computers and watching and critiquing films and theatre.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working as a private Tutor since 2007, and am a member of a number of private tutoring companies. I have tutored in English Language, English Literature, Speech, Drama, Acting, Philosophy, Entrance Exams, and most primary subjects. I have tutored Students from all ages and abilities; including adults and teenagers, as well as younger pupils, and pupils with learning difficulties

From Aug 2009 to May 2010 I was a Learning Support Assistant, DeBeauvoir School, Hackney, London.

Main duties included ensuring that students with learning difficulties are both kept up to speed with the general classroom environment, and that this does not disrupt the other students.

Other duties include:
- To provide full time academic and pastoral support to individual learners with learning difficulties, and/or behavioural and social problems.
- To provide academic and pastoral support to all other learners when required.
- To encourage learners to pursue further academic or vocational education.
- To provide behavioural support in class and to teaching staff at all times.

July 2009 - August 2009 I was SEN Assistant at Kentish Town CE School, London

Main duties include ensuring that students with physical and/or cognitive complications are given the extra support they require within the general classroom environment, and that this does not disrupt the other students.

Jan 2009 - June 2009 I was a Cover Supervisor, Neat Education & Select Education, Sheffield

Responsibilities are that of a Supply Teacher, being responsible for the learning and conduct of a whole class of students. Maintaining discipline and focus as well as being at all times a strong leader and role model were essential at all times.

Other duties include:
- Academic and pastoral support to all other learners when required.
- Monitoring attendance of learners and set appropriate targets.
- Invigilating examinations and mark work.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that Tutoring is first about personal connection. Any learning can only be achieved given a certain level of trust, which must be established in order to create a solid platform from which further learning can then flourish. Younger students are most open to absorbing information and should have the chance to take academic information and guidance from a range of people. This enhances the educational experiences and broadens the horizons of a student.

Having myself struggled with poor teachers, or unwieldy subject matter, I know that, with the right teachers, such areas can come alive. More clinical approaches to tutoring further separate students from the learning process. Having experienced one-to-one tuition myself, I have seen the many positives and potential pitfalls the system can bring. These experiences galvanize me and help me in my own tutoring. I relish taking what I have learnt, and the exciting methods by which I have learnt it, and passing that on to other students.

Regardless of the level taught, it is impossible to make real progress unless the student first has engagement and interest in the subject. I see my task as tutor as a process of invigorating the material for those studying.

Personal Description:
I am a University of Oxford graduate in Modern History and Politics. I worked for a year in the charity sector and then completed a joint MA in International Development and Politics. I have previously worked in educational non-profits as I am passionate about giving everyone the opportunity for a good education, and the benefits of education.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught abroad, in both India and Kenya, to a mixture of ages. I also have experience working with Japanese students as a Teaching Assistant on an Oxford summer school. These experiences have helped me learn how to explain myself concisely and clearly, to overcome not only the difficulty of the subject I was teaching, but the language barrier also.

I also have experience tutoring students who wish to apply to Oxbridge, to help them with what they will face at interview, and with their personal statements.

I have over three years and 300 hours of tutoring experience in multiple subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very interactive tutor who asks lots of questions and helps a pupil understand what is being taught. I like to provide tools which they can apply to their personal study when I'm not directly helping them.

I like to encourage lateral thinking and links with society and life, for instance, in economics I would discuss current economic news to help understand economic concepts being learnt and to apply the learning.

Personal Description:
I live and work in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Currently I am employed by the Open University as an Associate Lecturer tutoring modules in history and the humanities. I have also worked at other local universities teaching politics.

I have research interests in history at doctoral level, specialising in early twentieth century electoral politics.

I am looking to teach students at a higher education level or those aspiring to it. I can work with students at levels including: A-Level or equivalent, at foundation degree level or at undergraduate level.

I am looking to work with students studying history, politics or those looking to build study and learning skills for higher education, especially those interested in studying the arts and humanities.

Teaching Experience:

I have fourteen years experience of working at higher education institutions. My main teaching has been in the field of British and European history, other humanities at foundation level (including literature, history of art, music, religious studies, history of science and medicine and philosophy) and contemporary politics.

At the Open University, I have also specialised in study skills teaching to aid access to further courses, working with students from a broad range of educational experiences. I teach an Access module for the arts and humanities.

Some of the work I do is one-to-one teaching, so I am used to working with individual students and responding to their needs.

I regularly provide teaching in the form of lecturers and tutorials, and marking of assignments.

I like to create teaching materials to help students with their studies.

OU lecturers receive regular feedback from their students about their teaching and I tend to gain very good feedback.

Tutoring Approach:

I am familiar with a range of teaching methods and would tailor the support to students on the basis of their requirements.

At the OU, much of my work is distance learning-related which involves correspondence, online and telephone communication so I am happy to provide this sort of support to students across the country.

I can also meet up with students for face-to-face contact even some distance away if that is suitable.

I am happy to mark work and offer feedback to students, including essays and dissertations.

I can assist students with their current studies.

Personal Description:
I am a 2011 Politics Graduate at University of York. I'm applying for a PGCE to commence in August 2012 with the goal of becoming a secondary and sixth form teacher in History and Politics. Having had to work hard to achieve top grades I understand firsthand the difficulties and struggles that go on throughout both the GCSE and A-level processes. The pace is fast and often bewildering. Having spent time assisting in classrooms in York on a voluntary basis, I recognize that by communicating to smaller groups the immediate concentration amongst the otherwise chaotic classroom was instantaneous. I should hope the effects would be amplified on a one-to-one basis and real progress can be made through this time. Nothing gives me more satisfaction than being able to assist people in something so important in their lives. Throughout the year I will be increasing my experience within the educational sector with more classroom experience and continuing coaching the game I love, rugby, to the U12's.

So if your finding it difficult to make sense of things do not despair assistance is out there, more specifically here. I look forward to facing any challenges that there may be and I am confident that our time together will be most rewarding.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently employed by Yarm School and have to date completed two weeks as a History and Politics teacher. After the half-term I will continue this work as a Politics teacher, delivering classes to the Upper Sixth. The work has involved 5th and 6th form teaching, requiring me to resource, plan, deliver and assess a range of topics. The feedback was most positive, having been successful in a range of areas, from the delivery of lessons required to address a highly competent 'top end', to the preparation of pupil folders for an imminent inspection. I feel that I swiftly adapted to the many and varied demands of school life, including pastoral tutoring, record-keeping, parental contact requirements, departmental meetings, as well as co-leading extra-curricular excursions.

I have also spent several weeks shadowing lessons at York College (an independent Sixth-Form institution) and at Yarm School, a private secondary school in County Durham, whilst completing my degree. I have also delivered several presentations on behalf of a local charity, Justice First, to raise awareness on the plight of asylum seekers. This experience also involved classroom discussions with primary school children and sixth-form pupils on this issue.

Tutoring Approach:

I will require a sample of the tutee's work before the first session. Each session is adapted according to the needs and ability of the tutee. Sometimes this can call for livening up the subject material to make it more engaging. Other times this requires a clarity of thought through the confusion. I can be as patient or energetic as is required and I take it as my personal goal to find a way that best communicates to each individual. When it comes to exams it is a matter of knowing what the examiner is looking for and making sure you know how to demonstrate this adequately.

I look forward to assisting you through this time

James

Personal Description:
I am a dedicated, approachable and versatile teacher who will help you to develop the skills that you need to increase your confidence, enjoy your studies and achieve success in your exams.

I was educated at grammar and independent schools, and I have a degree in English and Social Anthropology from Cambridge University (1989). I am the third generation of teachers in my family.

Other tutors working with me are well-qualified academically and have extensive experience in their fields.

Teaching Experience:

With twenty years' teaching experience at English teacher at King's School Rochester, Kimbolton School and Excel in Key Subjects, I am perfectly placed to help pupils with a wide range of abilities and ages.

I teach for 11+ (beginning at year 4), Common Entrance, GCSE, A-Level, and I.B. I prepare candidates for university applications, including Oxbridge. I teach adult literacy and I support pupils with dyslexia. I have three years' experience as a GCSE English Language examiner.

I have an excellent exam record: my pupils routinely see significant improvement in their grades. Pupils have gone on to study English at universities such as Cambridge, St Andrews, Durham and Warwick.

Currently I am teaching young people from Key Stage 2 through to A-Level. Each pupil has lessons tailored to his or her needs.

I have directed many school drama productions. My productions include A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet, Henry V, The Merchant of Venice, Hard Candy, The Importance of Being Earnest, Waiting for Godot, The Cherry Orchard, Toad of Toad Hall and Alice In Wonderland.

Tutoring Approach:

Pupils are taught one-to-one or in well-matched pairs or groups of three. Pupils learning with others pay a reduced rate.

I accept both long-term pupils who need support as they progress through school, and short-term pupils who are studying specifically for an exam or a re-take.

I assess each pupil on his or her merits, using a flexible approach that addresses a pupil's individual needs. I believe that every pupil should end a lesson with a sense of achievement: I work through giving encouragement and praise, and through making the lesson an enjoyable and stimulating experience.

On the other hand, every pupil also needs a clear sense of where he or she can improve: I set reasonable amounts of homework for pupils up to GCSE that address specific areas of need, and I plan lessons accordingly.

My long experience of teaching English Language and Literature has shown me the most effective ways for pupils to acquire the necessary skills for exams. I have a thorough knowledge of examination texts and a substantial collection of relevant notes and textbooks. I refresh this collection regularly and keep up to date with changes in education.

I provide my pupils with reading suggestions: my reading lists are varied and up-to-date. Here is a selection of the books currently being read by my pupils aged 9 to 16:

My Left Foot, Skellig, The Diary of Anne Frank, Nineteen Eighty-Four, The Wolves of Willoughby Chase, Soldier Dog, The Hunger Games, The Hobbit, An Act of Love, The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place, Shadow of the Minotaur, The Machine Gunners, Refugee Boy.

Personal Description:
I am in my late-40s with interests including sports, classical music, singing, reading and writing historical fiction. All of this makes me sound somewhat of a nerd, but I believe teaching and learning should be fun, collaborative and productive.

I have a 2:1 degree in History (Hons) from the University of St. Andrews, and spent three years doing research for a Ph.D. I have been a teacher for 20 years, being Head of History at a prestigious HMC school in Scotland for eleven years.

Teaching Experience:

I have 20 years of experience teaching History at all levels from KS2 to AS and A2 Levels, also some University Entry including Oxbridge. My main specialisms are in Early Modern History [1450-1750], but I have also taught medieval and modern History periods.

I have taught GCSE [OCR board], AS/A2 [OCR and Edexcel], Scottish Higher [Medieval option]

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is collaborative which means that there needs to be a dialogue between tutor and tutee. This means that I would meet with a potential tutee to assess their needs and abilities, with the first lesson free. I encourage critical thinking and my questioning style is intended to build upon and extend prior learning.

I am willing to provide tuition in

- exam and test preparation
- general confidence issues
- homework marking and general subject support

Please give 24 hours notice of cancellation of a tutorial. I am willing to travel to your home for a small additional charge.
If a homework has been set please email it to me 48 hours before your session so that I may mark and assess it in good time. I will tutor small groups of up to four students.

Personal Description:
I graduated from Worcester College, Oxford, where I got a Double First in Classics, doing a mixture of literature, history and especially focusing on philosophy. I am enthusiastic and hard-working and I strongly believe in putting all my effort into what I do, so as a tutor I would work hard to try and help bring real improvement.

I was captain of one of my college football teams and also love playing cricket (though perhaps more keen than talented in both of the above!) I was Co-Chair of the Oxford University Labour Club and elected official at the Student Union, and I also enjoy playing the piano and guitar.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a voluntary leader on summer camp, which included organizing detailed discussion sessions, as well as tutoring my sister for her Cambridge interview and my experience with UK Tutors in a few different subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

I would try and keep things as relaxed and informal as possible so the sessions are good fun and try to listen as well as talk so that we can focus on what needs to be worked on and tailor the sessions to individual needs. I love all the subjects I tutor and I'd hope to inject that into my classes!

Personal Description:
I am a confident, diligent and sociable person, with a wide knowledge of world history, and specialising in American and South-East Asian history and culture. I hold a double first class Bachelors degree in History and American Studies from Canterbury Christ Church University, and have had many years experience leading youth projects such as youth councils, young persons' scrutiny forums (YPSF) and have acted as a liasion on several historical and cultural preservation projects such as the Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE) and the Church House Preservation Committee.

Teaching Experience:

I have previous experience as a teaching assistant to KS3 and KS4 level history at a state secondary school.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a holistic approach to the teaching of history, ensuring that the student becomes engaged within a fuller understanding of the period being studied. As a former student and teach of history, I realise that the principal block to a tutee's understanding of historical concepts is a lack of immersion within the relevant time-frames and thus an inability to fully comprehend why certain actions were taken, and the wider effect this had.

Thus in my approach I am firm believer that it is as important for every student to understand to a higher level than that offered by the current state curriculum the context of the period they are studying. As a consequence I offer tailored introductions to said period's culture, economy, religious and political setting, and even physical geography.

Furthermore, I offer the necessary skills to craft this knowledge into well-reasoned, informed essays. My intimate knowledge of the state education system and beyond has imbued me with the ability to gauge how assignments will be assessed and thus I can work with students not only on improving their knowledge, but showcasing this in highly-marked, structured and coherent written forms.

I use a number of methods to achieve this, including homework assignments, but also using character adoption, audio-visual aids and a mixture of written and verbal questions of varying length and form.

My work experience includes advising the UK Government and economic and financial policy issues and working in private sector finance.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught A-Level economics, and degree-level finance courses, as well as accountancy, and am also available for Chartered Financial Analyst tuition.

Tutoring Approach:

I focus in on areas where students find it difficult to grasp certain concepts, and develop easier ways to help you understand them. I believe that nothing is incomprehensible. Too many tutors make things complicated. I'm here to make things simple.

Personal Description:
I have recently graduated with a 2:1 in Philosophy & Theology in Oxford. I enjoy talking about, teaching and learning Philosophy, Theology, English Lit and History.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught English as a Foreign Language in both Egypt and Vietnam. I have taught History and English to pupil's at Manchester Academy. I have tutored Philosophy to A-level candidates and have led a series of inter-faith forums in Manchester and Oxford.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a rather philosophical approach whereby - through helpful questioning - I lead the student to the right answer, which they will retain and comprehend far better than if it is just told to them. Tutoring in an area where big concepts are more important than factual retention, I feel dialogue, discourse, debate and artistic expression (whether it be mind-maps or brainstorming) are the best ways to properly understand concepts.

Personal Description:
My name is Barney, I'm 22 years old and an undergraduate history student at King's College London. I live a diverse lifestyle; despite the fact I am diligent and aim to excel in my studies, I also fulfill my time on the sports field, within the theater and in all aspects of life to the full. For example, I am the captain of the King's College London Rugby 1st XV, a position which necessitates not only ability but also a great deal of responsibility. Furthermore, in my 1st year at King's College London I played a lead role in the university production of 'Fame' the musical. Nonetheless, academia is of vital importance to me; I'm constantly striving to learn and I love being able to teach others what I have come across. Most importantly however, I'm an affable, caring and honest person. I know how to make people laugh and I value my people skills above all else. Whilst at school, I undertook an A.C.H.E. scheme (Advice, Care, Help, Empathy), which enabled me to act as a student councilor to anyone feeling upset, worried or just needing guidance.

Teaching Experience:

Within my role as Deputy Head Boy at my secondary school (Truro School, TR1 1TH), I was required not only to fulfill supervisory but also educational roles. This meant aiding the teachers, sometimes by assisting individuals who required extra help.

In the Spring of 2012 I spent two months working among orphanages in a deprived part of Buenos Aires known as the Hidden City, with a volunteer group named L.I.F.E - (Luchemos para una Infancia Feliz y con Esperanza: We Strive for a Childhood with Happiness and Hope.) I was working with children between the ages of 5 and 12 more or less. Although they had very little educational background, it was our duty to impart what we could upon them; it required immense diligence and effort considering many of the children were unwilling to listen, let alone learn. However, this difficult but extremely rewarding opportunity provided me with teaching skills that cannot be underestimated. Namely, the ability to form a positive relationship with the child so as to ensure the best can be achieved.

Tutoring Approach:

As alluded to in the previous section, my approach to tutoring requires the formation of a positive relationship between tutor and tutored. I believe it is essential that there is rapport between both parties, in order to ensure that the tutored performs to their capability. As is nature, people are more willing to learn for those who they respect and like - precisely the opposite occurs if someone dreads tutoring. Educationally speaking, my approach is well structured, but varies greatly depending on the age. Regardless, it will always be in accordance with set examination boards and/or specific entrance exams. My exact approach is more easily demonstrated via e-mail once I know the specifics, and consequently can tailor accordingly.

Personal Description:
I'm currently studying History of Art with Philosophy and Arabic at UCL university in London. My passion has always been Art whether studying it or creating Art, or visiting art exhibitions in London. What most inspires me is the way that Art is rooted in a deep historical tradition of culture, style and politics. Two of my paintings from A level are currently displayed on the Saatchi Art Gallery website. I love teaching too; sharing my knowledge, past experience and helping others younger than me succeed confidently and reach their potential in their upcoming exams. I've had work experience in various Art/Fashion based fields.

Teaching Experience:

At school I have enjoyed encouraging and guiding younger students with their stressful art coursework as an Art and Product Design mentor and a Textiles prefect. I have also tutored Maths and English to family friends for their 11+ entrance exams and GCSE exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I enjoy teaching, I'm very patient and open minded. My approach to tutoring is conversational in a relaxed atmosphere. I understand how stressful Art or Textiles coursework can be as I've been there myself countless times throughout secondary school and sixth form. My approach to teaching Art is based on what the student wants. I can be their "second teacher" and guide them through it, help them with ideas or help with artist research/analysis. I can also teach them techniques in painting or various other media as it's important to experiment and show different skills. We can visit exhibitions. I'd give them insight and suggest which artists to look at. I have a lot of my old art coursework to look through which may help.

For subjects like History, Religious Studies and Maths, I cover a topic/area per lesson. I can go past the hour if I had to with no charge as I don't like stopping abruptly without finishing the topic. I have various ways of teaching History. I can explain and help understand the topics through Powerpoint presentations, I'd provide resources, past notes and tips on how to approach, write and structure an essay. I like to give short tasks/exercises for the next lesson to keep track of their progress and understanding.

For English, I can help children work towards their 11+ entrance exams. For GCSE, I'd be useful in helping them with texts such as, 'Of Mice and Men' or studying/analysing poetry. I have notes/essays that could help too.
