Personal Description:
I am an approachable, friendly person with a positive attitude to life, who enjoys meeting new people. I am a good communicator, having learnt to speak in public, and can talk easily to people from many different walks of life. While I like things to be done properly, I am adaptable and take people as I find them. I often see the funny side of situations and try to bring a little humour into both my work and play. In my spare time I enjoy keeping fit, reading and listening to music.

Teaching Experience:

I am a graduate historian with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Lancaster University and a Masters degree in military history from the University of Leeds. I have experience of tutoring GCSE and A Level history both face-to-face and online. My main areas of specialism are 19th and 20th century European and British history, but can cater for most areas of modern history. In addition, I have taught religious education up to GCSE level. I have considerable experience of working with a wide variety of people, having served for many years as a town councillor, school governor and charity worker. As well as private tuition, I am involved in historical research and writing.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed but firm approach to tutoring, tailoring my coaching around the specific needs of students. My aim is always to work in partnership with the student in addressing areas of weakness, in particular essay writing and exam revision. In tackling a difficult subject area, my approach is to break down the topic into manageable sections, highlighting the key points, while encouraging discussion of the wider issues. Once the student feels more confident about a particular subject, I try to encourage them to think critically about their chosen topic to provide them with a good foundation for constructing answers to essays or exam questions.

Personal Description:
I have been a lecturer for the past 16 years at both college and university levels. Educated at the universities of London and Birmingham, I am an experienced tutor, teacher, lecturer and author of articles, reviews and a recent book. An historian by training, I am also interested in literature, politics and cultural studies.

My experience of education was incredible, but it might not have been were it not for the motivation and support that I received from a number of outstanding lecturers I had. It was their example that led me to start teaching and I have found that helping others to learn and achieve academic success gives enormous job satisfaction.

I believe every student has unrealised potential and that with the right approach, all can succeed. I am flexible and believe in helping my students to find a learning style which suits them and enables them to succeed. I have a lot of energy and enthusiasm and besides teaching and writing, my interests include keeping abreast of current affairs, playing cricket and listening to world music.

Teaching Experience:

I tutor a variety of subjects at a range of levels including GCSE, AS, A Level, and Degree in addition to adult learners requiring support. I have experience of teaching students from a variety of cultural backgrounds. I have mentored post-graduate students and proof-read theses and dissertations.

I have over 15 years experience teaching and have taught in classrooms and universities in the United Kingdom and abroad. My students come from a wide range of different age groups and backgrounds and I pride myself on helping all of them to succeed. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a faculty member of the Foundation for International Education, London and Richmond, the American International University in London.

Tutoring Approach:

One of my main aims in tutoring is to stimulate an interest in learning, by making the topic as relevant in contemporary terms as possible. Most of the subjects I tutor, from history to religious studies have current and on-going social consequences. I have found that making an other wise dry topic of relevance to a student awakens an interest and desire to learn more. It is those inspirational moments when students become aware of the linkages between what they have read, and what is going on around them that makes tutoring particularly satisfying. This coupled with a growing ability to think critically, usually translates into enhanced coursework grades.

My approach to teaching is based on two fundamental bases. The first is that it is absolutely essential to find contentment in the learning process. This may not come through the actual material that needs to be learnt and it is up to the tutor to inspire in the student the self-assurance to succeed. As your tutor, I will lay down the learning structure and will cement this through detailed lesson plans. The second basis is that supervised practise testing is very important. This needs to be followed by a thorough assessment of the results, in order to understand where improvements need to be made, in both knowledge and approach.

At the younger end, I create a fun learning environment and aim to enhance originality, conscientiousness and self-assurance in the child's ability. In the longer term, I concentrate on problem areas which may have been skated over in class. For more senior students and adult learners, the same principles apply in terms of tailoring lessons to the individual. I mix core concepts with more general study skills and encourage each student to find their own way of independent learning. I am a patient, hard-working and open individual who strives to get the best out of each student and help them achieve their learning objectives. As your tutor I will be available outside of teaching time to answer questions by email and phone, there will be no extra cost for this service.

Personal Description:
I am a 26 year old graduate of Museum Studies MA/HONS from Bournemouth University. My university education began with York St John University gaining a 2:1 BA/HONS. At York University Masters degree in Medieval history at and later traveling down to Bournemouth completing a course reading Museum Studies.
During my studies at York I worked as a Tour guide with the company York Walk, as a researcher, historic adviser and presenter for Unicorn films and a research volunteer for the Rowntree society. Whilst continuing my studies I worked at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall and the Poole Museum as a volunteer curator.
I have since September 2011 finished my studies, I have resumed my part time job as a Tour guide in York.

I find the topic of history fascinating, over the last few years I have begun to focus on the history of the Vikings in England, Scotland, Norway and Denmark; though my interests are much more diverse and cover the 2000 year history of Britain as well as Europe. However I do enjoy enthusing about the subject, and consider the ability to pass on enthusiasm to be the key to being a successful tutor.

Teaching Experience:

I have shadowed a GCSE and A level class at the Fulford School, Mathematics and Computing College‎
National Maritime Museum Cornwall took four 1/2 hour sessions

Tutoring Approach:

I take a structured approach which blends the formal and informal.
With a knowledge of the required syllabus if n formal education, a more formal and structured approach will be adopted, but in these circumstances will always encourage participation.
If teaching students who are not subject to a narrow syllabus I will always aim to nurture their own innate curiosity for the subject of history.
The goal as I see it is to pass on my innate curiosity for the subject by encouraging participation through research and leading by example.
I am acquainted with different learning styles and I will be willing to adapt my approach to deal with learners of any ability.
Indeed as I take a flexible attitude towards tutoring if given particular instructions I will be more than happy to adopt a new style
In teaching an historical subject I will always endeavor to teach through first hand documentation introducing the student to the primary material before introducing the later revisionist work.

Personal Description:
I am a 26-year-old political risk analyst, with a degree in history from Nottingham and a masters from LSE in international relations. I left my job in February because I wanted to see if working in another part of the international relations sector appealed to me more, while I have also applied for a PhD to begin in September at KCL or Oxford. In the meantime, I am eager to help students with school or university difficulties where possible. I am easy-going, down-to-earth and very friendly. I love all sports, but particularly tennis, and I am an enthusiastic traveller.

Teaching Experience:

I have a Trinity Cert Tesol - Teaching English as a Foreign Language qualification and 1 year of teaching experience in Spain, Guatemala and London.

Tutoring Approach:

I have always enjoyed learning because my teachers, for the most part, made it fun so I'm keen to do the same with my students. I don't think anything that's worth studying has to be boring and I'm dedicated to making my students learn almost without realising they are doing it.

Personal Description:
I obtained First Class Honours for my LL.B (Hons) and have qualified as a barrister after completing the bar course (obtaining a Very Competent grade). I have recently completed an LL.M in International Law obtaining a Distinction overall and in each constituent element of the course. I am working as a tutor pending the start of the pupillage stage of my training in 2016.

I started my legal training as a mature student after many years in finance and have good, practical business experience.

I am able to tutor in most humanities subjects but in particular, History, English and Law. I have successfully tutored in the past both mature students and those for whom English is not their first language.

Teaching Experience:

In my previous career I was frequently responsible for the training and development of new school leavers.

As a mature student at university I mentored and helped my peers to understand the subjects being taught.

I have been tutoring for over a year with typically excellent results for my students.

I have tutored students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.

Tutoring Approach:

I am seeking to work as a tutor as I prefer the more intense and tailored approach which can be taken with individual students or small groups of students.

My approach is tailored to the individual student's needs. Whether the student is seeking support for short term projects or throughout the academic year I am able to quickly build a good working relationship which facilitates tutoring and enables the student to derive the best results from our sessions.

I believe in building a good, solid basis of knowledge and understanding on which the student can develop their own thoughts and theories enabling a full, in-depth understanding of the subject.

Personal Description:
I graduated two years ago from the Courtauld Institute of Art, from where I gained a degree in Art History. Since then I have continued my research in architectural, art and historic subjects through working as a researcher at an international architecture and design consultancy firm. After a very solid foundation in art and architectural history, I now have an insight into the practical applications of such research and its importance in the commercial world.

Areas of particular interest to me include: Manuscripts, Middle-eastern art and architecture, gender studies, institutional architecture, the Victorian Period, 20th century fashion, art theory and modern architecture.

I also have A-Levels in Classical Civilisation, Biology and Chemistry, so I can offer assistance with those subjects up until GCSE level.

Teaching Experience:

I am only beginning as a tutor and therefore have limited teaching experience but I do regularly discuss and impart information to others as part of my job. My role is to share my research findings in the most efficient way possible and I have always received positive feedback relating to my presentations and reports. My seminar contribution at university was also well received.

Tutoring Approach:

I would like to help students to understand the bigger picture, in order to understand the importance of the smaller details. I believe that endless memorising only has a short-term benefit and should be largely unnecessary if there is a real understanding of the context.

I also believe that the enthusiasm of the tutor inevitably infects the tutee, no matter what the learning material.

Personal Description:
I read English at Cambridge and graduated with honours in 2012. My specialist subject is English and I also teach History and Philosophy and Ethics as well as having experience of teaching KS3/4 Maths.

Studying English at Cambridge means that I have an excellent understanding of my specialist subject. I have a comprehensive knowledge of literature from medieval to present day - I love literature, art, and the humanities and enjoy working with tutees across different age groups to engage and inspire them in these fields. I have a good knowledge of the current curriculum and previous successful tutoring experience.

Further, I have a comprehensive knowledge of the admissions process and have experience of helping with Personal Statements, University Applications and Interview Technique.

Teaching Experience:

My experience and testimonials are as follows:

-GCSE English Literature: 20 hours of tuition. Practised analysing poetry, studied set texts (including Shakespeare), helped with essay writing technique and general spelling practise. Student was predicted a D grade and achieved an A grade. Has gone on to apply to Oxford. "Clarissa got an A - she can't believe it and she definitely couldn't have done it without you - thank you so much! I have recommended you to a number of our friends and families " (Parent of Pupil)

-GCSE English Literature: 10 hours of tuition. Studied Poetry in advance of examination (Carol Anne Duffy, Simon Armitage, poems from other cultures). Advised on revision techniques and exam techniques. Student went from B grade to A grade. "You gave me the keys to unlock so much more in poems that I've never seen before." (Pupil)

-A Level English Literature: 6 hours of tuition. General analytical techniques for unseen texts, helped with understanding of set texts and devised revision plan with students aims in mind. Confidence with unseen texts improved dramatically, student achieved A grade for this module.

-GCSE Mathematics: 6 hours of tuition. Targeted revision in the lead up to a re-take. Student achieved target (improved from C to B) "Holly's confidence has improved so much! She was at a real dead end and now she's on track and enjoying it again." (Parent of pupil)

-Seminar with a group of aspiring Oxbridge Candidates: 2 hours. Gave comprehensive advice on interview techniques for University entrance and helped with personal statements.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a determined, confident and flexible tutor. I am always ready to tailor my lessons to individual students' needs in order to achieve excellent results. My creative approach and enthusiasm for learning means that lessons are accessible and interesting. Not only do I aim to achieve better results, but I also seek to improve students all-round enjoyment of and confidence with their subject by introducing them to other texts or subjects that may cultivate their interest.

I have outstanding interpersonal skills and am extremely approachable, as a result my students are always encouraged to ask questions if they don't understand. I motivate my students by planning lessons effectively and implementing clear objectives, ensuring that they leave each lesson with a deeper understanding than when they came.

Personal Description:
I am currently in my final year of studying Law at Cambridge, having achieved solid 2.1s in my first and second years. I have a good academic background and achieved A's in all of my A-Levels (Law, History, Politics).

Teaching Experience:

I have always helped friends and family out and tutored them on an informal basis. I also have experience helping in a primary school classroom.

Tutoring Approach:

Very informal and relaxed, I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable. No question is too stupid and I'll never make anyone feel bad for not knowing the answers. Everyone learns differently and finding out the best way for you to learn is key. Everyone wants to pass their exams so obviously a key focus will be on exam technique and helping to perfect this by going over past papers together.

Personal Description:
Hi, I'm Steph, I recently completed my postgraduate studies in Screen Studies and I graduated with a 2.1 History BA (Hons). Whilst studying toward my History Degree I studied a variety of different topics in depth, such as, Death in Early Modern England, Aztec and Incan conquests, The English Reformation, The trial of Mary Queen of Scots, Vikings in Ireland, The Normans, Medicine in Modern England 1800s-1970 as well as other topics. My Dissertation was focused on the attitudes toward King John I of England. To A Level I studied The Norman Conquest, The Angevin Empire and The Crusades 1-4. At GCSE Level History I studied the development of Roads, Canals and the Railway in England, Suffragists and Suffragettes and the Public Health Act in England.

Toward my Screen Studies MA I have studied different film theories and cinema history. For my MA Dissertation I researched Japanese Horror Cinema especially the portrayal of the female ghost in horror films Ringu, The Grudge and Dark Water.

Teaching Experience:

I have helped to tutor friends for their GCSE, A Level and Undergraduate degree exams by making fun and interactive games that are more useful when revising. I have also tutored students in GCSE English AQA to help prepare them for their exams.

I volunteered at my local library and worked with young children during arts and crafts' sessions to motivate them into reading.

Tutoring Approach:

I enjoy creating games and methods that will help the student remember important facts. I believe mini tests and quizzes are helpful when learning and motivate the student to work to their hardest potential.

Personal Description:
I am a former Teaching Fellow at King's College London, with degrees from the universities of London, Jerusalem, and Cambridge. Author of 'Israel and the Cold War: Diplomacy, Strategy, and the Policy of the Periphery at the United Nations' (I.B. Tauris, 2013), I write for several academic journals, and review for the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House. I tutor in History, Politics, International Relations, and Hebrew. I am, however, happy to consider all enquiries within my general areas of interest, and experience. I am also available for dissertation consultation, proofreading, and help in exam and essay writing.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught MA courses on the Arab-Israeli conflict, US and British foreign policy in the Middle East, War and Peace in the Middle East, and inter-faith relations in the Mediterranean. I was Peer Tutor in Hebrew at University College London, where I was awarded the departmental prize for excellence, and I have tutored privately in Britain, and abroad.

Tutoring Approach:

Relaxed, interactive, theme-based, and multi-disciplinary. Use of past papers, analysis, deconstruction of exam and essay questions, concepts, and requirements; development of essay, and exam structure. I pay particular attention to a student's self-confidence, and self-expression, which often serve as catalysts for enhanced self-belief and, hence, success.

Personal Description:
I'm a 22 year old recent graduate of the University of Bristol, where I studied English Literature.
As well as tutoring I work as an actor and writer for theatre and television, and am the co-artistic director of my own theatre company. I am bright and friendly and approach everything with focus and humour.

Teaching Experience:

I have interned and volunteered at youth theatres in the UK and the US, and have helped several younger members of my family with their essay subjects during exam season. I also tutored some year 9s in History as part of a mentoring scheme whilst I was at school.
Outside of direct teaching, I have directed a number of short and full length plays which involved working with groups and with individuals on their performances and interpretations of the various texts. I was also Vice-President of one of Bristol's leading drama societies and part of the mentor scheme for younger English students as they began their University careers.

Tutoring Approach:

What I think is key is getting a clear overview of what an examiner is looking to see in an essay; what skills you need to display and how these can be shown clearly in the way that you write. Having an exam strategy in place gives us the breathing space to work out what you, the tutee, are interested in or can find interest in as we go along, within the subject; these are the parts of your essay which will be the most interesting to write and to read. Once we have found that we can use it as a starting point to branch out into other aspects of the subject, as a way of remembering important facts or how 'structure', for example, may not be the most exciting thing to learn about, but how it enhances and informs the more obvious and fun parts like 'character' or 'story'.
