Personal Description:
I have a first-class honours degree in History and a master's degree in American Studies (History). During my master's, I specialised in vernacular history, particularly the social, ideological and political significance of post-9/11 Islamic hip-hop.

I am a freelance marketing consultant, with a focus on content and copywriting, working in the tech, property, psychological wellbeing, HR and social development sectors. I am also a mentor on the University of Manchester Gold Mentoring programme. I love to read, write, paint and travel.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 6 years' tuition experience, having initially worked as a peer History tutor at Bridgewater State University (USA) in 2008 followed by working as a GCSE English tutor for the Tutor Trust in 2011-12. I have been tutoring privately since 2009.

At the Tutor Trust I delivered small group tuition sessions and taught large group revision classes in Manchester's disadvantaged schools and sixth form colleges.

Tutoring Approach:

TUITION
I take a structured approach to tutoring and develop a clear plan with objectives for the student and I to reach together. I work at the student's own pace and provide bespoke tuition which is tailored to the student's needs and learning style. My sessions are clear, engaging and stimulating.

My tutoring style is to facilitate rather than teach. I guide the student in the right direction and provide additional support to help with study skills, time management and organisation skills. Ultimately, I encourage the student to build more confidence in his/her own ability.

PROOFREADING & THESIS SUPPORT
I provide proofreading services for undergraduate and postgraduate coursework. I check grammar and spelling to a very high standard and offer in-depth feedback on analysis/argument, structure, knowledge/understanding, sources and referencing, and style and presentation to help students to achieve the grade they are aiming for.

Personal Description:
I have had a range of experiences. I began my career in Secondary education, I then moved, via a period of 4 years working for an independent film and TV production company, into university education. My particular interests are the political and cultural history of Britain in the 19th and 20th centuries; Film and Television History and Historiography, the history and philosophy of history.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently a University tutor in History with 20 years experience. I have also taught in sceondary education, and am currently a GCSE examiner.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is one that enables students to tackle the work themselves. I will therefore:
Suggest approaches to work;
Discuss plans and approaches for coursework assignments;
Discuss approaches to interpreting source and stimulus material;
Make students aware of other (mainly secondary) materials in the areas under investigation.

Personal Description:
I have a degree in Journalism and English and a Certificate in Education. I am able to tutor GCSE English Language GCSE English Literature, GCSE Maths, ESOL English Literature, GCSE Geography, GCSE Psychology and Media Studies to A level. I have given tuition to individuals and small groups of students at undergraduate level and offer friendly, relaxed lessons individually, or in groups up to five people, tailored exactly to what the pupil requires

Teaching Experience:

I have experience of one to one tutoring with both school and college students and adults, plus larger group teaching. I have been doing private tuition in my own home for four years now and its better for students to come to me as its a pressure free environment.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to teach from my home:
My home is quiet and fairly minimalistic. Lessons are held in my offce and I have a computer and Ipad that students can use.

I use the first meeting to talk about any difficulties in learning the subject in a formal educational setting and discuss any specific learning difficulties you may have. We can chat about strategies to help you learn more effectively and I will work with you at a pace that suits you. I will also ask the student to complete a learning styles questionnaire.

To the best of my ability I try to make subjects interesting to young people and re-engage them. I also encourage students to bring along any work they may be struggling with so I can go through it with them. I can help you get to where you need to be. Please only contact me and purchase my details if you are genuinely interested in my services. No time wasters please. Please note if you require me to travel to you there will be a charge.

Personal Description:
I'm a personable, down-to-earth UCL master's graduate and qualified English teacher with experience in securing good outcomes. Those outcomes often include students' target grades, but considering the versatility of my subject - in constructing arguments, self-presentation, interview technique, and so on - I also emphasise the broad, contextualised relevance of what I teach. It's not just about the grades, it's also about the doors those grades might open and how best to equip students to walk through them.

I hugely enjoy the sheer stimulation and engagement which great literature brings and hope to inspire my students with that same passion.

Teaching Experience:

I began tutoring in 2008 through a university programme, and since then have worked with schools, private clients, abroad, and as a schoolteacher. My students have come from virtually every background and ability level. I have also taught since 2012 in various contexts including abroad and at home in schools.

Tutoring Approach:

Fundamentally, I take the mystery out of English. Whether it be essay structure, metaphor, politics or themes, I explain the subject in down-to-earth and practical terms, while always encouraging my students to expand their horizons and think about the world in which they live. My depth of learning in English at one of the world's premier centres for it, UCL, ensures I can meet any challenge you or your child may have.

I cannot teach English all in one go; like all languages, it must be learnt through years of immersion. Therefore, I ask that students work hard on their own, as well as with me, by reading regularly for pleasure and consuming other media in English as well. What I can do is refine your understanding of it and give you tips and tricks to get through those difficult exams.

I look forward to engaging with great students.

Personal Description:
My name is Marco, during the past twelve years, I have taught the Italian language in England and abroad.
My professional experience has regarded various subjects, among which:
- pedagogic investigation about the foreign language teaching;
- foreign language teaching coordination;
- writing of didactic syllabi and curricula;
- assessment principles and criteria;
- organization of workshops, conferences, public lectures and roundtables with teachers, heads of schools, deans of universities to enhance the presence of the Italian language teaching in Guatemala among schools and private and State funded Universities;
- implementations in the MFL Italian language syllabus in order to improve the didactic offer;
- organisation of training courses for the CELI exam of the Universitŗ per Stranieri di Perugia;
- training of English students to take the GCSE and A-Level in Italian;
- creation of strategic networks among various educational partners both locally and internationally for the provision of scholarships for students and teachers in need;

I am graduate in Foreign Languages and Literatures from the University Ca' Foscari of Venice and I possess the ITALS Master's Degree in Teaching and promotion of the Italian language and culture to foreigners.

At December 2007 I graduated with success from the ITALS M. A. Degree in Teaching and Promotion of Italian Language and Culture of the University Ca' Foscari of Venice. The topic of my dissertation was linked to how organize an MFL interactive teaching unit in a class composed of students with different abilities.
At the end of May 2008 I published Mosaico Italia, a book on Italian Language and Culture that can be used with students with an Intermediate level of Italian (level B1 of the Common European Reference for Languages). This book aims to provide a didactic instrument to investigateItalian reality.

I added to my knowledge gained 'in the field' by taking the Master's Degree in Education at Birkbeck, University of London, graduating in November 2011 with Distinction. Success on this program entailed my being able to integrate effectively concrete work experience with theoretical knowledge in such a way that I deepened my analytical skills, overall.

Teaching Experience:

My professional experience has regarded various subjects, among which:
- pedagogic investigation about the foreign language teaching;
- foreign language teaching coordination;
- writing of didactic syllabi and curricula;
- assessment principles and criteria;
- implementations in the MFL Italian language syllabus in order to improve the didactic offer;
- organisation of training courses for the CELI exam of the Universitŗ per Stranieri di Perugia;
- training of English students to take the GCSE and A-Level in Italian;

Tutoring Approach:

think I am able to enhance the skills of low performing students by individualizing teaching methods and processes. My teaching style focuses very much on the outcomes my students wish to achieve by improving their Italian, be they grammatical, written or conversational. I am dedicated to helping my students learn and improve their Italian in an atmosphere that encourages interaction, listening, feedback and empathy. Above all, I like to make the process of learning Italian a fun experience that enriches my students' personal and professional lives through a sense of achievement.
The teaching techniques, which could be useful in a Foreign Language Tuition, are those in which communication between the tutor and the student is always is promoted. In this regard, mutual interaction and collaboration lead to a more natural learning of the language. This process follows a teaching method where the humanist-affective approach is used to practice the basic and integrated linguistic abilities while learning a foreign language.

Personal Description:
Hello, I'm Zoe. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Oxford, studying English Language and Literature at St Peter's College.

I'm an experienced tutor and I believe that with a good, solid education everyone's opportunities in life become better. I am patient and very committed to getting the best from my students.

Prior to university I attended Streatham and Clapham High School (8-16), and Wallington County Grammar School (16-18).

I completed A-Levels in English, Medieval History, French, Classical Civilisation and Philosophy AS Level.

My main interest is English Literature but I am ever-keen to use my French, and am also passionate about History, both ancient and modern. At GCSE level I opted to study primarily languages, namely French, German, Latin and Ancient Greek, and I am so grateful for the skills and linguistic understanding these diverse subjects have given me.

I am a keen reader, theatre-goer and traveller; I also enjoy sports, particularly running, netball and cycling. I live in southwest London and am happy to travel.

Teaching Experience:

I have plenty of experience tutoring people of all ages, and am currently specialising in English, French and History lessons and entrance/university interview preparation lessons.

I have worked as a temporary assistant at Faulkner House School in South Kensington during my Easter holiday from university in 2010 (children aged 3-11).

At school I worked on a mentor programme helping students from younger years with their French speaking practice and also with extra English.

I have a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) qualification.

I worked with a local Brownie pack from 2006-8 which involved working with children aged 7-10, running a variety of crafts activities and games.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a firm believer in the ability of each person to achieve academic success through hard work, and also understand the need for patience and perseverance to succeed.

Having benefited from one-on-one tutoring during my own education for those subjects I struggled with at school, I have first hand experience of the importance of a good tutor and just how much difference one can make.

I have a real passion for the subjects I studied at university and at A-Level and I communicate that, whilst simultaneously providing relevant and informed tuition sessions.

Personal Description:
I have recently graduated with a 2:1 in Philosophy & Theology in Oxford. I enjoy talking about, teaching and learning Philosophy, Theology, English Lit and History.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught English as a Foreign Language in both Egypt and Vietnam. I have taught History and English to pupil's at Manchester Academy. I have tutored Philosophy to A-level candidates and have led a series of inter-faith forums in Manchester and Oxford.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a rather philosophical approach whereby - through helpful questioning - I lead the student to the right answer, which they will retain and comprehend far better than if it is just told to them. Tutoring in an area where big concepts are more important than factual retention, I feel dialogue, discourse, debate and artistic expression (whether it be mind-maps or brainstorming) are the best ways to properly understand concepts.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate of The London School of Economics. I have obtained substantial professional experience in the contrasting environments of financial companies in South America and a UK technology company. I have completed an MSc at The Cranfield School of Management, whilst co-founding a new student society and pursuing multiple leadership roles. During the period November 2012 to June 2014 I studied advanced mathematics qualifications (equivalent to those taught at the London School of Economics), without a teacher and I greatly exceeded the average grade in nearly all of my examinations.

I have a highly developed ability of economics, mathematics and business and the patience and experience in communication to use that experience to help people to achieve real improvements in their ability and understanding.

References and academic articles can be supplied on request.

Teaching Experience:

I was the co-founder of the Cranfield School of Management Management Consulting Society, which entailed teaching a large number of students about interview skills and how to solve the example problems that they would be tested on during interviews (called case studies).

I prepared detailed lessons about case interview practice skills, with presentations and simulations of case study interviews and used patience and a detailed understanding of business, strategy and economics to help students pass their interviews. I received many complements from students, and the success of the society was such that I was able to recruit four new leaders to further develop the society in the current academic year.

I have held a volunteer leadership role for The St Luke's Hospice, a major charity that helps thousands of terminally ill people every year. I was responsible during 2013 and 2014 for the induction and training of new volunteers for one of the charity's largest ever fundraising partnerships (with the Meadowhall Shopping centre) and for managing many of its fundraising events.

I also have considerable experience teaching A-Level and GCSE maths and economics over the past years since December 2013.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that it is crucial to impart a developed understanding of the subject to create solid foundations and then build question answering techniques on top of them. This will allow students to improve their confidence in tackling exam questions whilst building the enthusiasm and general problem solving abilities that they will need to be successful at university. I will certainly be living in the Derbyshire area until late September. I am willing to build long term teaching relationships in which the learning requirements of each student are understood and responded to, thus allowing their capabilities with the subject to be developed as quickly and as thoroughly as possible.

Personal Description:
I read English at Cambridge and graduated with honours in 2012. My specialist subject is English and I also teach History and Philosophy and Ethics as well as having experience of teaching KS3/4 Maths.

Studying English at Cambridge means that I have an excellent understanding of my specialist subject. I have a comprehensive knowledge of literature from medieval to present day - I love literature, art, and the humanities and enjoy working with tutees across different age groups to engage and inspire them in these fields. I have a good knowledge of the current curriculum and previous successful tutoring experience.

Further, I have a comprehensive knowledge of the admissions process and have experience of helping with Personal Statements, University Applications and Interview Technique.

Teaching Experience:

My experience and testimonials are as follows:

-GCSE English Literature: 20 hours of tuition. Practised analysing poetry, studied set texts (including Shakespeare), helped with essay writing technique and general spelling practise. Student was predicted a D grade and achieved an A grade. Has gone on to apply to Oxford. "Clarissa got an A - she can't believe it and she definitely couldn't have done it without you - thank you so much! I have recommended you to a number of our friends and families " (Parent of Pupil)

-GCSE English Literature: 10 hours of tuition. Studied Poetry in advance of examination (Carol Anne Duffy, Simon Armitage, poems from other cultures). Advised on revision techniques and exam techniques. Student went from B grade to A grade. "You gave me the keys to unlock so much more in poems that I've never seen before." (Pupil)

-A Level English Literature: 6 hours of tuition. General analytical techniques for unseen texts, helped with understanding of set texts and devised revision plan with students aims in mind. Confidence with unseen texts improved dramatically, student achieved A grade for this module.

-GCSE Mathematics: 6 hours of tuition. Targeted revision in the lead up to a re-take. Student achieved target (improved from C to B) "Holly's confidence has improved so much! She was at a real dead end and now she's on track and enjoying it again." (Parent of pupil)

-Seminar with a group of aspiring Oxbridge Candidates: 2 hours. Gave comprehensive advice on interview techniques for University entrance and helped with personal statements.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a determined, confident and flexible tutor. I am always ready to tailor my lessons to individual students' needs in order to achieve excellent results. My creative approach and enthusiasm for learning means that lessons are accessible and interesting. Not only do I aim to achieve better results, but I also seek to improve students all-round enjoyment of and confidence with their subject by introducing them to other texts or subjects that may cultivate their interest.

I have outstanding interpersonal skills and am extremely approachable, as a result my students are always encouraged to ask questions if they don't understand. I motivate my students by planning lessons effectively and implementing clear objectives, ensuring that they leave each lesson with a deeper understanding than when they came.

Personal Description:
A first year Oxford Double Degree History student and double academic and music scholar. I was taught music at the Royal College of Music for over a decade. I am hard working, diligent and will always put my students first.

Teaching Experience:

Experience mainly tutoring younger children, but have done small ad-hoc pro bono tutoring sessions for older children. I specialise in both English and History tutoring, and I can tutor any book or any period for you child. Maths I will be willing to tutor up to GCSE at the most, given the board, and my music and sociology tutoring information can be provided at further request.

Tutoring Approach:

I specialise at being able to tutor online: I feel this means students can maintain studying in an environment they feel comfortable in. Another benefit is that I can document all tutoring sessions - part of me services mean that I will copy up transcripts of all the sessions for both you and your child - this means you do not need to worry about sessions being missed. To ensure you get the most out of my time, I offer my services in blocks of 5 or 10: this means that I can thoroughly cover subjects. For example, if you require emergency tutoring with a book, 5 sessions would enable me to efficiently cram topics, whilst 10 would enable me to go through this more thoroughly with you or your child. How I tailor your blocks of 5 or 10 can be discussed between both you, me, and your child. For documentation purposes, I believe typing during the online sessions can be maximally beneficial: both the child can see what i'm writing, whilst you as the parents can see exactly what is being discussed. However, if you would like me to use voice calling as well as video calling, this is no problem either.

Personal Description:
I am a very easy going 'people-person' and I am incredibly passionate about learning, character building and the sharing of knowledge. Much of my teaching experience was gained as a camp counsellor or during my Masters (an MRes in Humanities) at Stirling (which is also where I undertook my BA with Honours in History with Religious studies). Presently I am doing a part-time PhD in History at the University of Glasgow. As well as being passionate for interdisciplinary learning and educating (I want to be a lecturer one day) I am also a keen musician and sportsman. As such I believe that learning is an all-round experience which hones the individual. Moreover, I believe that its what you learn about yourself (what you like and want and how you 'tick') that is the most important part of a learning experience. I look to help with this as well as with the 'itty-gritty' of the details of the topic at hand.

Teaching Experience:

I have several years of experience working with children (8-12) and teenagers (12-18) through volunteering as a counsellor for holiday camps where I led a variety of lessons such as sports (I have also done some rugby coaching), arts + crafts and learning about literature and various scriptures. I also have considerable experience in aiding with university level and adult learning through auditing seminars and tutorials, giving lectures and talks and convening reading groups.

Tutoring Approach:

As an interdisciplinary academic I always strive to aid - in any capacity I can - in one's own journey towards a knowledge and understanding of a topic or discipline. For my Tutees I can always be relied upon to build an excellent rapport, to be flexible and to deliver a unique and outstanding service. I tend to be very 'hands-on' with my approach to learning in general but I mainly strive to be a guide; to talk issues through with my tutees in order for them to arrive at revelations for themselves. During this process I aim to help with any queries, theories or problems which arise during that said journey. I am always delighted, however, to give lessons and one-to-one-talk sessions on particular topics in order to boost my tutee's overall knowledge and understanding of the topic at hand.

Personal Description:
Hello, I'm Sam. I am a 19 year old second year English student at UCL. I attended All Saints Blackheath primary school and Dartford Grammar School secondary school and sixth form. At Dartford I received a fantastic education allowing me to achieve 11 A*s and 1 A at GCSE, and 43/45 points in the IB (the equivalent of 4 A*s at A-Level). The IB required that I took 6 subjects - rather than 4 at A-Level - which was wonderful as I was allowed to keep my learning as broad as possible. I have a specialist knowledge of the IB and so offer tutoring all the subjects I studied at that level (including Classics which is not an option on this website).

During term time I live in Kings Cross, North London. I am happy to travel to surrounding boroughs. I am very flexible in regards to when the tutoring sessions would take place. During the summer, winter and easter breaks I live in Blackheath, South East London, but will still be able to travel to you.

Besides from my studies I enjoy a variety of sports (swimming, tennis, football), as well as writing, reading, acting, and politics. I also play lead guitar in a band with three close friends which gives me a great sense of creative fulfilment and joy.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently tutoring one student through this website for GCSE and IGCSE English. I am also involved in a volunteering scheme called Action Tutoring every two weeks where I tutor poetry at a local state school. This has given me great first-hand tutoring experience.

I was involved in a volunteering scheme called VSU with a local primary school in Dartford. This involved teaching children aged 8-10 certain sports and games as well as helping them with homework. Apart from being great fun this gave me good practice of communicating with younger age groups.

During sixth form I attended History Club, helping year 7s, 8s and 9s plan their research as well as sharing knowledge from my IB history course. Since leaving for university, Dartford Grammar have twice invited me back to advise current sixth formers on their university prospects and provide first-hand knowledge and experience of what to expect at university.

I have also often taught my Dad how to use computer software and technology, which has taught me a great deal about the art of patience!

Tutoring Approach:

I have been incredibly lucky to have a series of hard-working, caring and genuinely inspiring teachers throughout my education. This has had a great influence on me, demonstrating how powerful a tool education can be. I have always wanted a job that in some way benefits society or helps others. This is why I am very enthusiastic to tutor.

My approach to tutoring is personal and dependent on what the student and student's parents are looking for. I am open to change and quick to adapt my style of teaching to the student's specific needs. If the student is preparing for an exam I will look at the components of the exam in specific detail. For example if tutoring GCSE English I would pay close attention to the assessed texts and poetry. If tutoring IB Latin I would prepare lessons on Latin language as well as analysing the themes and characterisation of set texts. As I have completed my GCSE and IB exams very recently, my knowledge of the courses is still fresh in my mind and I have a range of coursework, essays and notes to draw on. However although the final grade is important, I am very keen that the student enjoys learning. I am happy to look at external materials, in addition to the curriculum, that may be of interest to the student.

The lessons would be conversational and relaxed; I want the student to feel comfortable and happy. I am sympathetic and patient with people. I have worked very hard throughout my education and I would carry this work-ethic over into the preparation and organisation of the lessons.

Personal Description:
Hi! I just finished my Master's degree in Migration Studies at Oxford University and I'm currently job-seeking in London - mainly in media, communications and policy research jobs. I'm a 24 year old woman and originally from Newcastle upon Tyne. I have A Levels in French, Maths, English Literature, History, all at A grade (taken the year before they introduced the A* system :) ) and achieved 8 A*s at GCSE including 1 at A and 3 at B, so 12 altogether. I have first class BA Hons from University College London in International Relations and French. I speak French to an advanced standard and spent a year at university in Lyon France and in the past 5 years I have also lived in Montreal, Berlin and Oxford. I play the piano to Grade 8 standard and am currently teaching myself the ukulele and the accordion. I enjoy contemporary dance, spicy cooking and my favourite band is Arcade Fire.

Teaching Experience:

I have three years' tutoring experience with two families. I taught Aleena Maths and some English throughout her time in year 7. The following year I was living in France and taught Candice, who was 15 years old at the time, English language and conversation - and she made great improvements in her tests at school. After that I returned to London and was invited to teach Maths to Aleena again, who was by then in year 9. I also tutored her in French and her debate class.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to meet the tutee and if appropriate the parent, and in the past when I have taught maths we have agreed on an appropriate book to purchase, which I use as a guide for our lessons. I find an hour to an hour and a half is appropriate for secondary school level tutees, and I split the class up into different activities and subjects - depending on what the tutee needs or wishes to do that day. We will either work through a chapter of a book or concentrate on a specific piece of homework. I have not used structured lesson plans in the past but would be willing to implement this if the tutee or parent preferred.

Personal Description:
I am currently training to become a Primary School teacher. I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology, this combined with my previous work experience means I'm vastly knowledgeable about how children learn (including those with SEN).

Teaching Experience:

I have worked in primary schools as a 1:1 since the first year of university (2012). I then completed my degree in Psychology and enrolled on a School Direct course (Primary PGCE with QTS). I therefore have experience teaching children with SEN and children aged 5-11.
I have good use and experience of Makaton.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the best approach to any kind of tutoring is one that is tailored to the person. This as well as a good relationship is what I feel produces the best results.
