Personal Description:
I'm an experienced tutor and a Cambridge University English graduate. I give students the confidence to write well, excel at exams and make intelligent, original arguments with exciting, engaging and highly rigorous lessons.

I graduated from Christ's College, Cambridge University in 2010, with a 2:1 BA in English. before that I studied at the school of St. Helen and St. Katherine in Abingdon. I definitely still vividly remember what the whole (awful) process of GCSE and A-Level was like, and really understand with the exam techniques necessary to get through with a good grade. I understand how overwhelming it can feel, and the frustration of having to understand not only the subject itself but the correct way to answer. I was lucky enough to have teachers who always made this very clear to me, and the results speak for themselves.

Teaching Experience:

I've been tutoring since secondary school, when my peers would come to me for help with their work and for accessible explanations of the more complex ideas we were looking at. Since leaving school, I've tutored students of all ages, requirements and capabilities - focused mainly on GCSE, AS and A-level preparation all the way through to University Masters - in the areas of English, History, RS, and any other essay-based subject such as Sociology, Classics, Psychology, Business Studies and Geography.

I am particularly specialised in:
- students struggling with severe self-esteem and confidence issues
- students who need that special something to stand out at interview
- students who struggle to get their ideas down on paper and need some fail-safe techniques for constructing essays and arguments under pressure.

I have experience with learning difficulties, especially dyslexia, which I have helped my brother to cope with through his studies for the last few years. To me, it just means having to find another way to approach the information and make it accessible.

Though I'm not formally qualified as TEFL teacher, I've had several foreign students who needed to learn both formal and conversational English from a very basic level of understanding.

I also work with professionals who have writing requirements, including social workers, Lawyers and psychologists.

A couple of recent students include:
Imogen, 22: 3rd year English student at Edinburgh university. We've been working together for the last two years to help her overcome her panic attacks/anxiety over exams, and rebuild her confidence by improving her critical reading and essay technique, and reconnect her with her love of literature. After working together for 12 months, she was able to sit her 2nd year exams and is now completing her final year.

Helen, 18: Helen needed to raise her English A-Level grade from a predicted C to an A to fulfil her dream of studying at Oxford. She was sitting the challenging Cambridge English paper, which requires a much more rigorous style of working; we worked together intensively to develop her coursework, dramatically strengthen her writing skills, and study her texts from interesting new perspectives to create strong and original arguments. After our work together, she achieved an A and won her place at Oxford.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is based on two things: helping students cut to the heart of complex arguments and make them their own - and rediscovering the pleasure of learning.

I believe that everyone can understand an idea once it's made accessible to them - there's always a way, you've just got to find out what's right for each student. I always spend time to getting to know my students and understanding what makes them tick so we can work in the best possible way for them. The best results come when good exam technique is combined with a thorough understanding of the subject - I make sure that we spend time on both. Most of the time students have never had intensive help with their essay technique; I go through essays with students line by line so that they have absolute clarity on how they can improve. Variety is important - discussion is a great way to understand themes and build their arguments - it's about getting students interested in what they're studying again by putting them back in touch with the bigger picture - why it's important, what's fascinating about it, how it's still relevant today -, and then giving them the tools and the confidence to build strong answers, underpinned by writing exercises, essay/planning practice, and more visual aids like mind-mapping. Together, all these things should create a solid base of knowledge, good results and confident students.

I offer face to face tutoring, language skills, Skype sessions, and editing/help with any essay or piece of extended written work, either face to face or via email.

Personal Description:
Wednesday 24th Sept 2014

Taught a 'new' pupil - GCSE level - for the first time last night in the big city of Sheffield. Fantastic to get home to an email from mum."------ was thrilled with the lesson, and I am too." This is why I tutor students, Not to turn up and get paid, but to make history easier to understand, simpler to write about, to take the high drama and trauma out of exam taking, to spread the word about a subject that has become a huge part of my life now, now I'm studying for a PhD.

Hi, folks,

Now to some duller stuff.

Some very gratifying successes this August: 90%+ across 3 taken History exams w/ one student: C at AS Summer 2013: 6 ums marks off an A*, Summer 2014. WOW! This is what happens when student and tutor work in harmony, and when the student is really hungry to learn and improve. Also, AS ECONOMICS! My first AS level Economics teaching, taking on a student "who has given up" according to his teachers, on course for a U. We worked on one of the two modules for just 4 weeks: grade D achieved in the exam. This is what happens when the student trusts the tutor's optimism and follows advice.

So, my name is Craig, a very dedicated one-to-one tutor of History, Politics and English. I offer an exceptionally high level of expertise as a history, politics (and English) teacher, teacher of essay writing, exam writing and exam taking. This is based on well over two decades of experience in schools and in homes. Though I have been teaching a long time, I am continually striving to improve the quality of my work, constantly analyzing the effect of my advice on performance and trying to perfect the art and craft of the job.

When not tutoring, most of my time is spent working (hard!) as a student too! I am just about to begin the third year of my PhD, supervised by Professor Tony Collins of De Montfort University, Leicester, undertaking research in 20th century British history. (Rugby fans might like to note at this point that Tony is the number one rugby historian - of all codes - in the world. All his books are very well worth reading.)

I am exceptionally well qualified. I have an MA (2011) in History and am now two years into my doctoral studies. I have written fiction and non-fiction. I have had experience in being an A level marker with an exam board. I have had long experience in teaching and preparing whole History & Govnt. & Politics year groups for A level, producing outstanding results.

I take on all types of students. Some need a lot of training, some need to be dragged away from a collision-course with failure, some need finessing, some need waking up, some need inspiring, some need a boost in confidence; some need more intellectual stimulation; all can and do improve their writing.

My chief strengths are: 1. I know how to teach students to write. 2. I know how to prepare them for exams. 3. My methods are clear, simple and work beautifully. 4. I care very much about the progression of my students. 5. I treat my work with them with the utmost seriousness. 6. But I'm a human being with a sense of humour! 7. I am very, very experienced. 8. As a parent of three children who have gone through the school and university experience, I understand what both the student and the parent is going through.

I am very happy to work with students online. I have found it to work extremely well.

More on my current research project...
I am currently working on doctoral research into the BBC, sport and social class, 1922-64, with Tony Collins at De Montfort University, Leicester. He is the director of DMU's International Centre for Sports History & Culture, a department of world renown, and the leading British powerhouse of sports history. I am very proud to be working with Tony and within the department. Undergrad students should note that I am working under one of the world's best historians, a 3-time winner of the prestigious Aberdare Prize for Sports Books.

Becoming a student again, beginning with the masters degree course at De Montfort University in 2010 has really helped my teaching. As well as keeping on top of developments in academic history. I am much better read! I know more! It has also taken me right back in touch with what it feels like to be a student and all that follows from that. It has also enabled me to extend my tutoring potential to undergraduates and masters students.

I'm happily married with 3 children fully grown (it's only their father who's lagging behind).

Teaching Experience:

I taught for 24 years in secondary schools in Bromley, Kent and Derbyshire where I now live. History was my specialism but I was head of Politics for a number of years in the last part of my school career. I also taught Geography, Economics, English and R.E.

Since beginning to tutor students, I have taught history, Government & Politics and English (including basic literacy skills to a young person with dyslexia). Courses taught have mostly been those at GCSE and A level.

I have taught a wide range of topics within French, German, Russian and British history. The list includes the usual suspects: causes of World Wars 1 and 2, Hitler and the Third Reich, the Russian revolution and Stalin as well as aspects of Irish and Chinese history and 19th century France and Russia. Since becoming a PhD student my expertise level in terms of content knowledge has leapt forward in 20th century British history. However...

...it isn't the historical content of the course that matters so much: technique is the key; know-how; how to write; how to take an exam; how to prepare for the whole exam period; how to approach the whole thing mentally, psychologically; how to be the best you can be; how to be successful - end of story!

I have worked with students on exam preparation and revision, coursework planning and execution and essay writing techniques. It is here that the battle to improve and to reach a fulfillment of potential, often with the reward of high grades, is usually won.

Tutoring Approach:

I don't tinker around the margins of issues. I give students something all those who come for help require: a method to use to dispose of the problems posed by the issue of writing that dreaded thing: the essay! Not a tinkering round the edges of the thing, a tip here, a bit of advice there, but a comprehensive yet simple and absolutely clear set of actions and principles through which the student can fulfill their potential: show the examiner what they know and understand of the topic.

Following on from the above, my approach to tutoring begins and ends with the drive to be successful. If I did not unfailingly improve students, help them to achieve the grades they want and need I would not be writing this.

In between comes what we might describe as philosophy and methods. It's hard to write about methods without immediately mentioning what I suppose might be my strongest "offer" (I don't much like that word but there, I've used it). As a schoolteacher I developed a unique but simple method of essay planning and writing that achieved stunning results. So successful has it been over 20 years that I am astonished that no one else seems to have found it. But in my experience up to February 2013 no teacher has. Essay writing is still something that many, many students find difficult and confusing. It really does not need to be this way.

Obviously content issues are hugely important and here I rely on my communication skills which have yet to let me down! These, naturally, go hand in hand with a knowledge of British and European history across a variety of years which has grown over recent years particularly through my MA studies, my PhD research and through working with students on a range of historical periods, topics and people. I find myself to be adaptable to different types of students. I am able to adapt my language and my technique to fit the situation. I am also somewhat stubborn in that I never give up on solving a problem. If we have to go over time, so be it!

Finally, some more of my personal philosophies of teaching. I believe that students generally do not achieve their potential. With each student I aim to take them to standards (and grades) that they did not think were possible. Without exception I push, push and push until we run out of time as we inevitably do. I also do not believe in lost causes. Much can be achieved in a very short space of time. I have seen this happen over and over again.

There is much more to be said but that, I hope, will do for now.

Craig

Personal Description:
Hello,

I'm a 28 year old from the Old Trafford/ Stretford area of Manchester, I graduated in Law from Lancaster university in 2008 but currently work in Banking/finance. I am an individual who is quite fond of reading, debating and discovering new things. I would say I am quite lively, not too difficult to get on with, very ambitious but also with an equal dash of a patience for I am a patient individual. Although I am admittedly not fantastic at sports I do play badminton and football from time to time I can play a range of sports but those tend to be the main two. I am a massive fan of education and self development. The colossal impact both areas can have upon our lives is incalcuable, as such I tend to be never too far away from reading a book or learning something new to further myself.

Teaching Experience:

I have mainly gained a lot of my early teaching experience through tutoring younger siblings and assisting the junior year students either at college or University with areas which they either required either extra help in or further knowledge. As such I have further developed this over the last four years and I am confident that the contribution which I have made to those who I have helped has been substantial in helping them to progress onwards to the next stage and beyond. As such I would hope to extend this towards any student who desires to take me on board and to progress until they are ready for the task at hand.

As I have progressed over the years, teaching various and numerous tutees, my own personal & teaching experience has grown exponentially year on year. As such I believe I can approach any teaching scenario and offer the required angle to ensure success as a result of previous experience yet I still take each student on a case by case/ individual basis rather than a blanket approach.

Tutoring Approach:

I begin my approach with an informal but analytical conversation with the student, parent or both in order to assess strengths and areas where we can develop a plan of action or just to establish face to face what it is we will be doing in the time we have. I will aim to take each stage step by step until both you and I are satisfied that we are confident in understanding and explaining coherently the relevant information. I will be professional but understanding as patience dictates, most importantly any work set during the session will be wholly relevant, comprehensible and creative in order to match your needs.

I do incorporate digital media or a whiteboard depending on the subject if a visual element is required in teaching. Presentations can be sent via email at any time as well.

*For any LPC students I can also tutor and instruct in Solicitors accounts too.

Personal Description:
I have five years private tutoring experience and love to teach.

I am disciplined, empathetic, caring and highly motivated to engage with each individual's needs. I consistently get excellent results with my students.

My main academic area is Embodied Cognition, in particular the intersection between Philosophy, Neuroscience, Art and Design. I am currently writing on these subjects, publishing in various politics, science, art/culture and philosophy publications. Furthermore I'm working on the libretto (script) for a new opera.

My interests extend broadly through Sociology, Literature, Theology and World Religions, Philosophy of Maths, as well as a great many other things.

Teaching Experience:

With 5 years of private tutoring experience, I am a specialist in catering to my student's individual study needs. My students have ranged from those completing their A-Level and International Baccalaureate, to university students, post graduates and those in business.

Patiently and methodically coaching students throughout their studies, my tutoring experience includes:
- Helping with difficult dissertations and assignments/coursework
- Exam and study technique including memory improvement
- Comprehension
- Working with those who have low confidence
- Working with those with special learning needs (including Giftedness) and individual circumstances

Case studies of recent students include:

Gerald:
In his mock examinations Gerald's scores were unsatisfactory to himself and his teachers. After quickly isolating the area of study technique that Gerald was struggling with we were able to brainstorm solutions and bring him two grades higher in his final scores.

Anna:
A Philosophy degree student, Anna suffered from extremely low confidence and debilitating anxiety regarding her comprehension and argument formulation. Working together throughout the last year of her degree, we built her confidence slowly. Anna has now gone on to gain her masters in Philosophy at St. Andrews.

Excellent references on request.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm passionate about learning and knowledge, as well as about the diverse ways to learn and the different directions a subject can be approached from. I believe my suitability for tutoring is much enriched by this, and by my realisation that everything is fun and interesting.

I strongly believe that anyone can grasp and enjoy their subject. Often this requires sensitivity to the student's needs; perhaps to make the subject tangible, accessible or relate it to something that the student finds of interest.

My experience; successfully tutoring individuals to an extremely high standard; has led me to grow and develop my skills as a practical, reliable and exuberant guide. As someone of many interests and capabilities, I offer a comprehensive body of knowledge of subjects, as well as a sensitive, analytical and transformative teaching method.

Do contact me, I would love to help.

Personal Description:
My name is Marco, I am an Italian teacher who worked for eight
years at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura of Guatemala City (Cultural section
of the Italian Embassy). Besides teaching Italian,
I also organised cultural activities as cycles of Italian movies, literary
conferences, seminar on Italian Literature and Cinema.

I am graduate in Foreign Languages and Literatures from the University Ca'
Foscari of Venice and I possess the ITALS Master's Degree in Teaching and
promotion of the Italian language and culture to foreigners.

At the end of May 2008 I published Mosaico Italia, a book on
Italian Language and Culture that can be used with students with an
Intermediate level of Italian (level B1 of the Common European Reference for
Languages). This book aims to provide a didactic instrument to investigate
Italian reality.

Now I am in London to study a Msc in Education, power and Social Change at
Birkbeck, University of London. I have just started my dissertation, and I
will get my Msc degree in September 2011.

Teaching Experience:

During the past few years, I have taught the Italian language and Literature in Latin-American countries such as the Dominican Republic and Guatemala, teaching with special techniques learnt at the ITALS post-University course of Italian for foreigners. At December 2007 I graduated from the ITALS M. A. Degree in Teaching and Promotion of the Italian Language and Culture to Foreigners of the University Ca' Foscari of Venice.

When I started working at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura of Guatemala City, I was also in charge of working out all the plans related to the didactics coordination. Moreover, I wrote all the Curricula and the exams along the period of my employment both at the Istituto and at the Landivar University. I also coordinated the pedagogic implementation and organised Seminars and workshops on Training and in Language Teaching Techniques.

Tutoring Approach:

The teaching techniques, which could be useful in a Foreign Language Tutorship, are those in which communication between the tutor and the student is always is promoted. In this regard, mutual interaction and collaboration lead to a more natural learning of the language. This process follows a teaching method where the humanist-affective approach is used to practice the basic and integrated linguistic abilities while learning a foreign language.
The models of teaching units that originate from these premises require a particular profile for the tutor who will encourage the students to analyze and reflect on the conceptual categories (morphological, syntactical, cultural, lexical, functional etc.) that constitute the goals of the unit.

Personal Description:
I am in my late-40s with interests including sports, classical music, singing, reading and writing historical fiction. All of this makes me sound somewhat of a nerd, but I believe teaching and learning should be fun, collaborative and productive.

I have a 2:1 degree in History (Hons) from the University of St. Andrews, and spent three years doing research for a Ph.D. I have been a teacher for 20 years, being Head of History at a prestigious HMC school in Scotland for eleven years.

Teaching Experience:

I have 20 years of experience teaching History at all levels from KS2 to AS and A2 Levels, also some University Entry including Oxbridge. My main specialisms are in Early Modern History [1450-1750], but I have also taught medieval and modern History periods.

I have taught GCSE [OCR board], AS/A2 [OCR and Edexcel], Scottish Higher [Medieval option]

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is collaborative which means that there needs to be a dialogue between tutor and tutee. This means that I would meet with a potential tutee to assess their needs and abilities, with the first lesson free. I encourage critical thinking and my questioning style is intended to build upon and extend prior learning.

I am willing to provide tuition in

- exam and test preparation
- general confidence issues
- homework marking and general subject support

Please give 24 hours notice of cancellation of a tutorial. I am willing to travel to your home for a small additional charge.
If a homework has been set please email it to me 48 hours before your session so that I may mark and assess it in good time. I will tutor small groups of up to four students.

Personal Description:
Positive, encouraging, warm and friendly. I graduated from the University of St Andrews in 2011 with an MA(Hons) in English Literature, and am currently undertaking a PGDE in Secondary English Teaching at the University of Strathclyde. I can assure you that whether you are studying William Shakespeare or Irvine Welsh, I can help. From experience, I also know that how much you enjoy the literature in question can have a big impact on how well you write essays or reports on it. I have a passion for literature and know there is always something good to be taken from any book, so hopefully through my tutoring, you'll catch the bug too. From critical readings, to deciphering poetry, to writing your own creative pieces, I've done them all from school through to University, and have no doubt I can guide you to a new-found confidence in your English Literature studies. Having studied Mediaeval, Scottish and Modern History at Junior Honours Level, I can also assist with school level British and European History studies. I am a qualified EFL Teacher, so if you're looking for help developing your English skills, look no further.

Teaching Experience:

EFL Teacher, Adults and Teenagers. Teaching exam based classes, I taught pupils aged 14 and upwards the skills, language and confidence necessary to sit internationally recognised Cambridge ESOL examinations. My teaching role varied from providing one-to-one tutoring for adults wishing to improve their English, to planning and delivering structured, informative lessons for classes of teenagers as part of their curriculum. I am delighted to be able to report that my students' earned not only pass marks in their exams, but were thrilled to attain high grades.

Kindergarten EFL Teacher. In this role I taught classes of thirty students the basics of the English language, using lesson plans and worksheets I developed myself. With a creative and enjoyable approach to teaching, I noticed considerable improvements in the English skills of my students, and am pleased to say my pupils consistently enjoyed my lessons and my warm, constructive teaching style.

Volunteer EFL Tutor. A one-on-one role teaching beginner's English, I tailored my lessons specifically to my pupil's needs at all times, discovering their areas of strength and which methods suited them best, and also working on weaker areas, finding ways to improve these through diverting activities and positive re-enforcement.

Volunteer Leader in ASN Performance Classes. In this role I helped teach children and adults with additional support needs singing, dancing and acting. I assisted either individuals or small groups in developing ideas for dramatic scenes, learning how best to work with each person, adapting scenes to both their preferences and what would help develop their confidence and independence.

I can also expertly proof-read your work, having previously proof-read dissertations, websites and CVs with skill, helping you produce a polished essay.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in structuring encouraging, independent learning environments, helping to draw out your own ideas and discussing them together to achieve an interesting and concise argument for you to work on. I apply constructive criticism with tact and guidance, asking appropriate questions about your theories to allow you to think them through with consideration and depth. I will not tell you what you should write: I will facilitate you, guide you, act as a sounding board for your ideas, and explain any gnarly linguistic or theoretical queries you may have. Be assured that I will come prepared to each lesson, whether online or in person, ready with resources I think would assist you, and with a sound knowledge of the text in question. Above all, I will be dedicated to helping you improve your understanding of the topic; the quality of your written work; and, hopefully, your enjoyment of reading and studying texts.

Personal Description:
Hey, My name is Jennifer, and I'm currently a student studying history at university!
My strength is history. Naturally, I'm very interested in medieval history, & Tudor history. I have studied myself a wide range of historical subjects. Which include: the Russian revolution, the French revolution, the Scottish wars of independence, and how to research history: using both primary sources, and secondary sources.

I have also studied sociology. The areas which I've studied in sociology has been: the family, social stratification (class), gender, and the media. I also have a strong interest in sociology. Theorists I have covered include; Marx, Webber, and feminism.

Philosophy, along with history, is another subject which I am passionate about. I've studied philosophy for three years in total:one year at college, and two years at university. Philosophy is a subject which focuses on any, and every area, therefore, there is something for everyone to take an interest in philosophy! Philosophy has been extremely useful to me for all areas of my academic life. It has taught me; how to think, and how to construct an excellent argument. My personal favorite subjects in philosophy are: moral philosophy, and political philosophy.

My last subject, but, by no means least! Is politics. I have studied politics subjects for two and a half years. This has covered areas such as; the Uk government and Parliament, totalitarianism, democracy, the 1940s welfare state, and Machiavelli and Hobbes.

Teaching Experience:

Being a current student I have no teaching experience. However, as a student myself, I know what the pressures of studying feels like, how to study effectively, and I also know how stressful studying can be, therefore I am patient, and extremley understanding.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is a laid back attitude. Not lazy however!
Students need to pace themselves, and not stress out.
I am naturally compassionate and caring.

I can get back to any student inquires within a 24 hour period.

Personal Description:
My name is Oliver and I am a 22-year-old student at the University of Warwick, where I study German & History joint honours. I have recently returned from my year abroad in Germany, where I studied not only German language and literature, but also history and French language at the Humboldt University in Berlin. I would describe myself as enthusiastic and friendly.

Teaching Experience:

Between January and June 2012 I volunteered through Warwick Volunteers at a school in Coventry, where I acted as a teaching assistant in a Year 8 French class. I furthermore tutored a then first-year student at the University of Warwick during this time period. She was interested in improving her German language from GCSE-level and so we met for an hour every week in the university library. During the lessons we not only focused on grammar, but also on texts which I provided to widen vocabulary and to understand sentence structure in a real context.

Tutoring Approach:

For me it is important that the tutoring can either be as relaxed or as focused as the student wants it to be. We all have our own individual ways of learning and retaining information, so it is key to understand best how the student learns when approaching a topic. It is also good when students think for themselves, rather than simply soaking up information, and so I tend to encourage this kind of self-sufficiency in learning. I encourage debate and get students to justifying their reasoning and thought, skills which are not only useful for the future but also are more engaging for students.

Personal Description:
I have just finished a PhD in Medieval History at the University of Cambridge, studying at King's College. I love the fact that history exercises not only historical methodologies, but also utilises language skills, literary analysis and many study skills. When not researching history, I sing in choirs and operettas.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught both at undergraduate level, in one-on-one and group situations, and at primary level. My undergraduate teaching includes lecturing, seminars on religion across the ages and the role of women in medieval Latin texts, and supervisions relating to early medieval European and Irish history. I have also helped teach primary aged children reading and writing skills when they were having difficulties in the classroom. My experience is therefore very varied, ranging from teaching young children with their own difficulties to the brightest undergraduates in the country.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is very much student led. I believe it is of the utmost importance to encourage a student to express their own thoughts and ideas, led by the questioning of their tutor. It is very important to establish a good rapport between student and tutor, in order that communication will be at its best, and a student will always feel comfortable enough to say when they do not understand. One-to-one tutoring is perfect for this approach.

University of Oxford: BA Hons Modern History
University of Durham: MA Medieval History
University of York: PhD Medieval History

I believe that any tutor-tutee relationship ought to be shaped by the goal of meeting the tutee's academic needs. This is best achieved by:
• A friendly, relaxed atmosphere
• An academic schedule centred around the tutee's needs
• An agreement between tutor and tutee regarding academic schedule

Teaching Experience:

As an undergraduate seminar leader at the University of York, I taught first year students a variety of subjects, ranging from historical skills to particular historical case studies such as Tudor kingship. This required me to develop a number of teaching approaches including small group work, individual student presentations and collective group discussion.

As part of my teaching duties I have regularly assessed and provided feedback on students' written work; prepared students for examinations; provided pastoral support to students struggling with a variety of personal and academic issues; and worked effectively as part of team with fellow members of staff in the History Department at the University of York.

My particular academic expertise - the area of my PhD thesis, in which I currently work - is the economic and political history of the later medieval period. I am, however, very widely read in a number of historical periods, ranging from the early medieval period through to twentieth-century world history. I studied periods such as these as an undergraduate student, and am capable of teaching any historical period/theme up to an undergraduate level.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that any tutee's needs are best served through the tutor's adoption of a student-centred teaching approach, based on the learners' academic needs. After agreeing to meet with a tutee for the first time, we would have a conversation in order to identify the areas in which the tutee needed to improve. We would then agree, together, upon an academic schedule most likely to result in the tutee's improving in these areas. Typically, this academic schedule would be devised through making recourse to the relevant exam board specification, and sessions would be structured around how to approach answering exam questions in problem areas. Considerable time would be devoted to improving the tutee's confidence and motivation to succeed. By intensively working upon these issues, the tutee's general historical skills will improve, and he/she will develop as a learner.

Personal Description:
I am a degree educated tutor with over 5 years working in industry. I enjoy tutoring all subjects, but specialise in Maths, IT, History, Economics and Business Studies. Living in between Blackheath, Lewisham and Greenwich, I am happy to travel up to 10 miles to tutor, as I believe that by igniting interest in education, each child can reach their full potential in every subject.

Teaching Experience:

I have been in childcare and education for over 10 years, including experience as a Tutor, Sunday School Teacher, Activities Assistant and Nanny

Tutoring Approach:

Each child learns in a different way, and this is definitely true for each subject. From Humanities to Mathematics based subjects, I like to teach cause and effect methods to try and help the student to truly understand the subject, not just learn it for an exam.

Personal Description:
Hi there, I'm Libby. I am friendly, focused and enjoy helping people learn and achieve. My punctuality and trustworthiness has made me popular with both previous parents and students I have worked with.

I live in Birmingham and have a full UK driving license so can travel to you.

I studied History at GCSE, A Level and University level; English to GSCE and A Level, and Maths to GSCE and AS Level.

Teaching Experience:

Throughout my sixth form years I tutored a number of students in GCSE Maths, my fellow students in A Level History, and have recently tutored my sister in her GCSE English.
I also have a lot of experience childminding children of all ages.

Tutoring Approach:

- I like to speak on the phone with the student prior to our first session to find out what they need help with in particular as every student is very different.
- I make sure I have done the appropriate research beforehand.
- I set homework tasks (even if the session is a one off), as recapping the lesson is vital to getting the most out of the tutoring.
- I am very patient with the student, however I do like to push to get the best out of them.
- An important part of preparing for exams is looking at and completing past papers, so I like to incorporate them into the lessons.
