Personal Description:
I graduated from Oxford University with a First Class honours degree in Geography, and have since been both a private tutor and fundraising executive for a global charity for street children. I was the Deputy Head of the Boarding House at the Royal Grammar School High Wycombe. I am a very keen sportsman, having represented my school, university college and club's cricket 1st team. I averaged over 90% in my A levels, including 100% in AS Geography and 98% in A2 History. I provide a strategic and effective approach to both general learning as well as more specific exam and revision techniques. In the run up to exams, I offer specialist technique-based advice and support, that have been proven to improve grades by several levels.

Teaching Experience:

For the last four years I have been tutoring English, Geography, History and French to a wide range of over 120 individuals and groups of all abilities, aims and ages (from 5-50 years old). In the last year alone, I have provided over 950 hours of tuition. I have worked with many students on their university applications, helping them with university and subject choices, and especially with personal statements and interviews. I particularly specialise in Oxbridge application advice and support, with several successful recent applicants. I received university and national awards for my dissertation, and have since worked closely with students on their dissertations, one of whom has just received the highest mark at the university and has subsequently been submitted for a national prize.

I also offer short or long term international tuition services, having worked in Italy and the Bahamas on tutoring projects.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very flexible and can adapt my tutoring style to the needs of each individual. Whether your particular needs are factual and syllabus related, or if it's your exam or revision technique that you're looking to improve, then we can work together to create a highly successful and enjoyable study programme to ensure you achieve your full potential.

Personal Description:
I am a professionally trained actor. I have written for numerous publications, with stories and poems published regularly. I am confident with public speaking, since I have been performing in diverse venues for nearly 10 years. I have an MA in Acting and an MA in Theatre & Performance Studies. I have professional training in elocution, pronunciation as well as accent and dialect work.

I am a keen footballer, and believe in the importance of keeping fit and eating healthily. I also love travel, gardening, fixing computers and watching and critiquing films and theatre.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working as a private Tutor since 2007, and am a member of a number of private tutoring companies. I have tutored in English Language, English Literature, Speech, Drama, Acting, Philosophy, Entrance Exams, and most primary subjects. I have tutored Students from all ages and abilities; including adults and teenagers, as well as younger pupils, and pupils with learning difficulties

From Aug 2009 to May 2010 I was a Learning Support Assistant, DeBeauvoir School, Hackney, London.

Main duties included ensuring that students with learning difficulties are both kept up to speed with the general classroom environment, and that this does not disrupt the other students.

Other duties include:
- To provide full time academic and pastoral support to individual learners with learning difficulties, and/or behavioural and social problems.
- To provide academic and pastoral support to all other learners when required.
- To encourage learners to pursue further academic or vocational education.
- To provide behavioural support in class and to teaching staff at all times.

July 2009 - August 2009 I was SEN Assistant at Kentish Town CE School, London

Main duties include ensuring that students with physical and/or cognitive complications are given the extra support they require within the general classroom environment, and that this does not disrupt the other students.

Jan 2009 - June 2009 I was a Cover Supervisor, Neat Education & Select Education, Sheffield

Responsibilities are that of a Supply Teacher, being responsible for the learning and conduct of a whole class of students. Maintaining discipline and focus as well as being at all times a strong leader and role model were essential at all times.

Other duties include:
- Academic and pastoral support to all other learners when required.
- Monitoring attendance of learners and set appropriate targets.
- Invigilating examinations and mark work.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that Tutoring is first about personal connection. Any learning can only be achieved given a certain level of trust, which must be established in order to create a solid platform from which further learning can then flourish. Younger students are most open to absorbing information and should have the chance to take academic information and guidance from a range of people. This enhances the educational experiences and broadens the horizons of a student.

Having myself struggled with poor teachers, or unwieldy subject matter, I know that, with the right teachers, such areas can come alive. More clinical approaches to tutoring further separate students from the learning process. Having experienced one-to-one tuition myself, I have seen the many positives and potential pitfalls the system can bring. These experiences galvanize me and help me in my own tutoring. I relish taking what I have learnt, and the exciting methods by which I have learnt it, and passing that on to other students.

Regardless of the level taught, it is impossible to make real progress unless the student first has engagement and interest in the subject. I see my task as tutor as a process of invigorating the material for those studying.

Personal Description:
I currently work at a managerial level in the public sector and am undertaking a professional qualification on a part-time basis. I graduated in History and International Relations from the London School of Economics in 2008. I would describe myself as a proactive and driven individual with a wealth of academic and practical experience in the Social Science field. I am also a graduate of the Windor Fellowship Leadeship Programme where I was sponsored and employed by the Department for International Development. I have previously worked at the National Archives in Kew where I carried historical research and advised members of the public on family history.

Teaching Experience:

I am an experienced tutor and have worked with students at all levels of capability from GCSEs to A-levels for over three years. I am also experienced in tutoring first year undergraduates with writing social science essays. I trained as a mentor with the National Aims Higher Scheme whilst at LSE.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very passionate about English and History and enjoy making these subjects accessible to young people. I strongly believe in allowing students to develop a natural curiosity for these subjects whilst also prompting them to explore their own interpretations and views. My approach is to support students develop an appreciation of English and History through sharing ideas, debating views and discussing personal interpretations of historical events or literature. My method is not to give answers but to ask students open-ended questions. I find that this approach helps foster a self-confidence in the students that I tutor. Alongside the academic study, I also encourage students to develop practical skills, such as being able to debate effectively and deliver presentations with confidence.

Personal Description:
I am a 2011 Politics Graduate at University of York. I'm applying for a PGCE to commence in August 2012 with the goal of becoming a secondary and sixth form teacher in History and Politics. Having had to work hard to achieve top grades I understand firsthand the difficulties and struggles that go on throughout both the GCSE and A-level processes. The pace is fast and often bewildering. Having spent time assisting in classrooms in York on a voluntary basis, I recognize that by communicating to smaller groups the immediate concentration amongst the otherwise chaotic classroom was instantaneous. I should hope the effects would be amplified on a one-to-one basis and real progress can be made through this time. Nothing gives me more satisfaction than being able to assist people in something so important in their lives. Throughout the year I will be increasing my experience within the educational sector with more classroom experience and continuing coaching the game I love, rugby, to the U12's.

So if your finding it difficult to make sense of things do not despair assistance is out there, more specifically here. I look forward to facing any challenges that there may be and I am confident that our time together will be most rewarding.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently employed by Yarm School and have to date completed two weeks as a History and Politics teacher. After the half-term I will continue this work as a Politics teacher, delivering classes to the Upper Sixth. The work has involved 5th and 6th form teaching, requiring me to resource, plan, deliver and assess a range of topics. The feedback was most positive, having been successful in a range of areas, from the delivery of lessons required to address a highly competent 'top end', to the preparation of pupil folders for an imminent inspection. I feel that I swiftly adapted to the many and varied demands of school life, including pastoral tutoring, record-keeping, parental contact requirements, departmental meetings, as well as co-leading extra-curricular excursions.

I have also spent several weeks shadowing lessons at York College (an independent Sixth-Form institution) and at Yarm School, a private secondary school in County Durham, whilst completing my degree. I have also delivered several presentations on behalf of a local charity, Justice First, to raise awareness on the plight of asylum seekers. This experience also involved classroom discussions with primary school children and sixth-form pupils on this issue.

Tutoring Approach:

I will require a sample of the tutee's work before the first session. Each session is adapted according to the needs and ability of the tutee. Sometimes this can call for livening up the subject material to make it more engaging. Other times this requires a clarity of thought through the confusion. I can be as patient or energetic as is required and I take it as my personal goal to find a way that best communicates to each individual. When it comes to exams it is a matter of knowing what the examiner is looking for and making sure you know how to demonstrate this adequately.

I look forward to assisting you through this time

James

Personal Description:
I am a qualified primary school teacher in my 30s. I am friendly, patient and approachable and enjoy helping children with their learning. I am able to provide help with KS1 and KS2 English/Literacy (reading, writing, spelling or a combination of these), and KS1 and KS2 maths. I particularly work with children who find the subject difficult and would like a little extra help and children who have specific special educational needs. My specialist subject is history and am happy to provide support for this subject at primary level also. I do not tutor for school entrance exams.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked in education for 10 years, as a class teacher in Years 3 and 5, a museum teacher and currently as a Year 5 and 6 teacher in a village school in the Forest of Dean. I have been home tutoring for four years. The children I have tutored have gained in confidence, improved their skills and moved up groups in school within months.

"We can't thank you enough for all the help and guidance you have given H during the time you have taught him." (Parent)

"Thank you for helping me get better at maths and litercay. Since you have been helping me I have moved up a set to a better class. I am pleased about this, as now I feel more confident." (Year 5 pupil)

Tutoring Approach:

I believe learning should be fun, active and relevant to the child's interests and needs. I tailor lessons to the child's abilities, learning styles and interests, and include suitable levels of challenge to help them progress. I believe praise and encouragement is conducive to success and in raising a child's confidence if they are struggling. I am used to working with a wide range of children who have different abilities and interests, and can quickly assess the level they are working at and tailor their learning to suit their needs and interests.

Personal Description:
I'm a young and professional Secondary English Teacher.

My expertise is English Language and Literature in the 11-19 range but my qualifications, teaching experience and academic knowledge make me a suitable candidate for a much wider range of subjects and ages.

My teaching approach is informal and studious. I know how to get the best results from all students and have an excellent success rate. Recent successes this summer include: preparing a Saudi Arabian adult learner for his University application, helping an AS student rise from an E to a B in her History exam and helping a SEN child make the transition from primary to secondary school. My GCSE exam rates in English and English Literature were also amongst the highest in the school with 80% of students achieving A*-C and 30% attaining A/A*.

I have an outstanding rapport with my students who all benefit from my easygoing and dedicated, student-centred approaches.

Whether you are revising for an exam, working on coursework, applying for a particular course or institution or just wanting to develop your academic skills, my engaging and caring tutoring sessions will reap huge benefits for you.

Teaching Experience:

I have seven years of teaching and tutoring experience under my belt.

At present I am working as an English Teacher and Literacy Coordinator at an outstanding West London School. This gives me access to an incredible range of resources and means that I am fully experienced in the English National Curriculum and relevant GCSE and A Level Exam boards. My role as a coordinator means that I also specialise in helping students with weak literacy or Special Educational Needs.

Before this I was working as an ESL teacher in Asia for three years. I taught and tutored a diverse age range of 3 - 70 catering for every kind of student, whether they were learning to read or applying to study at an International University. As a tutor my services were popular and well subscribed as I taught individuals or family groups.

Throughout my teaching experience I have taught many forms of literacy and critical thinking. I know how to tailor my lessons to individuals students whether they are learning English as an Additional Language, studying for entrance exams or working toward a particular exam specification.

Tutoring Approach:

I have often been praised for having an approachable and inclusive manner with all my students. I always tailor my teaching to the demands and deadlines of the individual. My style is engaging and highly productive. I thoroughly enjoy what I do and that enthusiasm passes on to those I teach. I have an excellent rapport with people and always make sure that my students feel at ease and comfortable in their learning environment. I have high expectations of my students who trust me to get the best out of them.

I understand how important the decision making process is to find the right tutor. In acknowledgement of this I offer all students a free first tutorial so that the all important learning relationship can be set up and any queries satisfied.

If you would like more information about how I would tailor my tutoring for your needs then please email me with any questions.

Personal Description:
I am an employee of the United Nations and a graduate from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). I am available for tutoring on Politics and Sociology at any level, and on History, Philosophy and Economics at GCSE level. I am happy to provide help on exam revision, essay writing, entrance exam preparation, university applications and general reading and writing skills.

Teaching Experience:

I have 3 years' experience of tutoring social science subjects to students from a range of different nationalities and backgrounds. I have a strong track record of improving grade scores and passing exams first time. I have proof-read essays for a large number of students who have all subsequently scored top marks for spelling and grammar. I have also formerly proof-read documents in a professional setting for businesses from the Czech Republic and Greece.

Tutoring Approach:

I am flexible in my approach and am happy to adapt to any student's needs. I look to work on all aspects of a student's approach, including revision technique, writing style and exam preparation. My preference is for committed students who will practice and implement what is learnt outside of lessons. I have typically set students exercises for completion before the next lesson in addition to revision work for practise essay questions. The more committed a student is to our classes, the more they will gain from them.

Personal Description:
I'm a recent graduate with both a BA and an MPhil in Philosophy from Cambridge University. I've taken A Levels in English, Mathematics, and History as well, and am very comfortable teaching all these subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutoring experience at both A-Level and University level, in addition to experience with small group teaching at Cambridge University, where I taught first year undergraduates in classes of 10. At the other end of the spectrum, I have an 11 year old sister and am very used to helping her out with homework, and know the challenges involved in teaching young kids too.

Tutoring Approach:

I place a big focus on being friendly and approachable to students, to help make sure they feel relaxed, which I believe is very important for effective leaning. I like to make sure I understand where they are finding things challenging, and why, but also where they are succeeding, to build confidence by emphasising achievements as well as areas for improvement.

Personal Description:
I am 29 years old and have been teaching A level and GCSE English and history at sixth form college for seven years, in which time my results have far surpassed national pass rates. Moreover, due to these outstanding pass rates and innovative teaching methods, my English department has been awarded a grade 1 'Outstanding' for the past 4 years. I have a passion for English and history, and take great pride in providing an excellent education to all of my students, seeing it as crucial to success in their later careers.

Teaching Experience:

I have a broad range of experience turning around failing classes, as well as challenging high achieving students. In my teaching career thus far I have taught a wide age range from 9-18 years, and specialise in teaching troubled students and those lacking confidence, as well as pushing very bright pupils. Since I began teaching at my institution, English pass-rates have received a 25% upwards leap in two years, so that the vast majority of my classes are now passing with high academic grades and attaining entry to prestigious preparatory schools and/or universities. With these excellent results I have now been made an advanced teaching practitioner, tasked with passing on my skills to other teachers and helping drive up standards

Tutoring Approach:

Besides enjoying superb results, my pupils benefit from a relaxed yet challenging atmosphere, with high commitment being expected of them and this has shown to bring both personal and academic growth, which is always pleasing to see. Moreover, in strengthening self-esteem and exciting the minds of my students, to provide them with the skills they need to excel in later life, I seek to provide them with only the finest education possible.

Personal Description:
Currently a final year student at Queen Mary, University of London, I have in-depth knowledge in History and Politics. Recently, I have taken a year out to the US to extend my knowledge in American History and Politics. Having studied both these subjects for my A levels, I know what students are going through and what they should expect in an exam. I am also fluent in Cantonese and able to write and read in traditional Chinese.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience is largely based on informal tutoring in the form of discussion with younger students. Although I have never taught formally in a classroom before, I believe this should not hinder, but rather, enhance my ability to interact with students, especially when it comes to one-on-one tuition.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to base my tutoring around discussion with the student. I believe allowing the student to wrestle with difficult ideas and understanding them is better than spoon-feeding information. I also think sample essays, resources from beyond the curriculum would be a great help, so that would be a big part of my tuition approach as well.

Personal Description:
Born in Yorkshire I was educated in New Zealand up to school certificate. After A levels I attended Durham University before heading to Sandhurst.
12 years of teaching experience is backed by a wealth of real-world experience in the army, arts and educational administration and in business. I have an interest in the outdoors, public speaking, sport (I am an active cricketer and a rugby referee) , the arts, history, science and religion.

Teaching Experience:

Sherborne Prep School (2002-2009 and 2011-14): Originally engaged as a science and class teacher for KS2 and 3, I became Director of Studies in 2006. In 2011 I returned as head of history before becoming head of computing in 2012. In both these roles I was responsible for writing and introducing a new curriculum.
Sherborne Qatar (2009-10): founding Director of Studies responsible for admissions, curriculum and assessment and teacher of a Year 5 class.
On returning to the UK I worked at Knighton House School (2010-11): where I taught science, maths and history. From 2014, I have done some supply teaching in the Tyneside area while working on curriculum projects and freelance writing

Tutoring Approach:

With experience in preparing pupils for exams such as 11+, Common Entrance and scholarships I am academically demanding but believe that learning should be enjoyable and try to include elements which allow children of all learning styles and abilities to make the most of their abilities. As a result I include practical elements and visual materials in most lessons. Context is important in learning, so concepts are taught through media and approaches which are engaging (and often amusing) to the child. In short, children regard learning as fun and worthwhile rather than as something to be endured. The first step is an assessment of needs which is followed by focussed learning to develop areas of weakness and to build confidence, knowledge and analytical skills.

Personal Description:
My name is Daniel and I currently study Ancient History and Archaeology at Reading University, I am originally from Guernsey and studied at Elizabeth College, for my A-Levels I took Ancient History (A at A2) Classics (A at AS) Design and Technology (A at A2 with 98% in coursework) and Photography (B at A2). I also have some background in french speaking and teaching Sailing.

Teaching Experience:

During my time at Elizabeth College I was a cadet leader in charge of 50 or so cadets, this role involved teaching the recruits various aspects of the curriculum, from theoretical to applied learning.
I am also a sailing and Powerboat instructor, this was paid work over the summer, where I would take children, relatively new to the sport, and within a week have them sailing proficiently on their own.
During these activities I would be teaching young adolescent and the occasional 10-11 year old.

-As a one to one student you will always have the undivided attention of the teacher for the entire lesson.
-All lesson plans can be individually tailored to your needs.
-We can spend as little or as long on any given individual topic until it is properly understood. The choice is yours.
-The 1:1 - teacher to student ratio cannot be beaten.

With education a solid foundation of knowledge must be laid before additional levels can be built upon it; otherwise the structure in question will inevitably fail.

Tutoring Approach:

I would say I very much hands on, first I would read ahead in the curriculum, in order to ensure my understanding of the subject was clear, I would then form a powerpoint in order to provide a visual learning point, whilst I would orate the background to the student, It would follow a chronological order, and would and in-depth background knowledge that would help the student understand the subject matter better, and allow the student to access higher grades

Personal Description:
Hi,

I'm currently a twenty-four year old university student who has successfully completed an International Baccalaureate degree. I'm looking to form a lasting student - tutor relationship as I have always enjoyed teaching. I have an extremely international background, which has always assisted me in easily identifying with people of all backgrounds. My field of expertise does fall under English and Writing, however I am also well suited to teach Math, History and the Sciences on a basic level. I am also self-taught in guitar and am able to teach that on a basic level.

I look forward to hearing back from you to see how I can assist you or your child in your field of education.

With kind regards,
Sahil

Teaching Experience:

Previously, I have worked for nearly two years at The International Preschools AB in Gothenburg, Sweden. I, together with a colleague, was the main teacher for a group of approximately twenty five to six year old students at one of the most prestigious preschools in Sweden. There my duties included everything from ensuring the childrens' safety to teaching them reading, maths and all skills necessary for their future education.

In addition, I have taught various high-school students guitar.

Tutoring Approach:

I am an enthusiastic person who knows that virtually any subject can be interesting if approached correctly. Therefore, my goal will always be to adapt my style of tutoring to my student until we are able to not only make the most out of the lessons but also work at maximum efficiency. I strive to ensure that all of my pupils are able to thrive in their respective fields of study. I also look to make the sessions as enjoyable as possible, and understand that people learn at individual paces as well as in different methods. I hope to find what works best for you and attempt to teach you in that manner.

Personal Description:
Hi! My name is Harriet, and I am currently a student at Lancaster University where I study Marketing. I have a love for learning, and want to inspire others to further themselves and find their passion. I hold A-levels in Business and Economics, 16th Century History, Geography, and General Studies; as well as an AS-level in Maths. I have also achieved GCSEs in 11 subjects. I love quizzes, and I frequently attend pub quizzes and enter competitions with my friends and family.

Teaching Experience:

I have not yet had experience in a one-to-one tutoring capacity, but I have worked with children and young people of a variety of ages. Through voluntary work I have undertaken, I have had the opportunity to help in a primary school, and help to lead and supervise school groups in an outdoor setting. Coming from a rural area myself, I love the outdoors, and enjoy playing netball in my spare time.

Tutoring Approach:

I have no single approach or style of leadership and tutoring as I feel that each student's needs are different. I am adaptive, but also retain a structured set-up.

Personal Description:
I'm a 20 year old, male student, studying Literature and History at the University of East Anglia in Norwich. I am originally from Stratford in London and moved to Dartford, on the outskirts of London, shortly after I turned 10. For a lot of my life I have played many sports and have belonged to many teams, including Dartford F.C and Dartford C.C.

While many in England studied A levels, I did the International Baccalaureate (IB), requiring me to study double the subjects than an A level student and also having to take 3 subjects at a higher level, of which I took History, English Literature, and Business and Management. Overall, I achieved 42 points out of the total 45 available and I have provided an A-level equivalent to all of my most important grades below so that they are easier to understand.

Teaching Experience:

I have had three different experiences with teaching during work experience; teaching at St. Albans Infant School, York Road Primary School and Dartford Grammar School for boys. Thus, I have had good experience teaching and interacting with all years up to A level/IB. Furthermore, I have taught English to Japanese university students from the University of Tokyo at Oxford University, so I have experience in speaking to native Japanese speakers as well as experience teaching English to novice speakers.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to approach tutoring and teaching in a way that makes the student feel comfortable, as I feel this is the best conditions for the person I am tutoring to learn and absorb the information that is being put out. If I am tutoring a student that is preparing for an exam, I will choose to look specifically at how the exam can be tackled; allowing the student to apply the knowledge he/she learns at school to the exam, accessing the best mark possible.

When teaching an infant/primary school student I will ensure the student feels safe and confident in the space I provide, ensuring that the child stays within their comfort zone is the perfect way for the child to learn and that is what I focus on.
