Teaching Experience:

Experience of tutoring 11-16 year olds.
I have tutored several students during their GCSEs, primarily in Maths, French, English, Spanish, History and Russian. I tailor my tutoring lessons to the needs of my pupils; I have taken both students throughout their full GCSE two year course and have also done exam specific tutoring lessons.

A levels.
I have tutored several pupils for A Levels, both with helping develop their coursework and improving their writing style. Through tutoring I have seen the slight changes in the exam boards and have the benefit of going through it myself quite recently. A significant part of achieving high grades is about understanding how to 'tick' the right boxes.

University Admissions.
Having gone through the UCAS System I have found that several of my pupils have benefited from my university admission tutoring. I have primarily worked on preparation for Oxbridge entrance tests and interviews. I have been doing this throughout my university career and have the benefit of being exposed to the tutors that will interview the candidates.

I have also signed up with big tutoring companies such as Holland Park.

Tutoring Approach:

When going through GCSEs and A Levels I tailor my classes to the student. It is important to know what grade a pupil is aiming for, their previous experience and how much time there is before their exam. I usually make sure that my pupils know the core basics that sometimes can be skipped over at school which make it harder for students to grow if they have not established the basics.

For languages I think it is very important to have a core understanding of grammar and vocabulary. My pupils benefit from lessons from me as I can speak French and Spanish fluently and Russian proficiently.
Whilst at university I majored in literature and therefore can share my approach to literature and poetry for English A level students.
For History A Level I work with the students developing their ideas and working on their essays which are very important in determining your grade achieved.

Having studied a full range of A levels I know what is needed for a pupil to succeed when faced with difficult exams and coursework questions.

I aim to provide clear explanations to solving problems along with useful exam technique. Friendly, enthusiastic and patient.

I am a young professional with a strong background in volunteer mentoring with children and young people, as well as a solid academic resume. I was home educated (tutorial-based) through primary and secondary school, and went on to study English Literature and History at the University of Edinburgh.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working since June 2011 at Mackenzie School of English, teaching English as a second language to foreign high school students.

Also, I have been a private tutor since February 2011, working with a range of ages and levels in both English Literature and History.

As well as my professional experience, I have been involved in youth work, summer camps, and one-to-one mentoring of young people for the past eight years or so. Working at summer camps has given me experience in both group work - teaching and leading discussions - as well as in one-to-one mentoring. Currently I am involved in a weekly youth club here in Leith, working with vulnerable and disadvantaged young people from the local community.

My teaching approach is informal and studious. I know how to get the best results from all students and have an excellent success rate. Recent successes this summer include: preparing a Saudi Arabian adult learner for his University application, helping an AS student rise from an E to a B in her History exam and helping a SEN child make the transition from primary to secondary school. My GCSE exam rates in English and English Literature were also amongst the highest in the school with 80% of students achieving A*-C and 30% attaining A/A*.

I have seven years of teaching and tutoring experience under my belt.

At present I am working as an English Teacher and Literacy Coordinator at an outstanding West London School. Personal Description:
I am currently in the second year of my PhD at the University of York in the Archaeology Department. My research focuses on British defences and their historical, social and political contexts, in particular York and Hull's city walls from 1550 to 1700. My area of interest is primarily Britain but I have a broad knowledge of European history from the Medieval to modern times. During my education I have studied numerous periods, including Richard II, Medieval England, Early Modern Europe, 19th century German unification, World War I & II, the rise of the Nazis, Native Americans, Vichy France, the Italian Renaissance, the Cold War, English Civil War, Tudors and Stuarts, as well as other areas and periods through my own interest and study.

Teaching Experience:

I taught 15 first year undergraduates for a module within the Archaeology Department called History and Theory. This looked at the historical and theoretical contexts of archaeology and involved a large number of readings and assigned tasks devised by myself for the students, in conjunction with them producing two essays that I also graded. I also partook in an accredited teaching qualification from The Higher Education Academy. This involved producing a portfolio relating to my own teaching and participation in numerous workshops looking at the practical and theoretical aspects of academic teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

Having studied History through GCSE, A-Level, Undergraduate, Postgraduate and now with a PhD I feel that I know what a student requires. Primarily this includes the opportunity to foster their own ideas and thoughts that are then framed within an academic context, based upon independent judgement and application of reasoned arguments. A student must be able formulate this for themselves and not simply taught the "facts" or be spoon-fed information. From teaching at undergraduate level I feel it is important that students are able to challenge ideas but then also themselves then have their own viewpoints challenged. Without the student wanting to learn for themselves it is near impossible to achieve any results, so a large degree of independent learning is required.

I am a final year student at Kings College London studying BA English Language and Linguistics. I studied English Language, English Literature and History at A-Level and have been an avid reader and writer from a very young age. At age 12 I had a poem published in a young authors poetry collection called 'Forever Spoken'. I am passionate about these subjects and feel that I could make a valuable contribution to the education of primary/11-14/GCSE students.

Teaching Experience:

Whilst studying my A-levels I worked as a literacy aid for GCSE students who struggled with their English reading/writing/comprehension. This involved reading with the students once a week in order to test their reading and comprehension skills as well as testing them on grammar, punctuation, lexis and semantics. I also have over a years' experiencing tutoring primary school and GCSE students, as well as students preparing for the 11+.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to come to an understanding with the student as to which areas they feel need the most work. I then create a targeted plan on a timescale, breaking up the areas into modules in order to focus on each individual issue. From my experience I have found that sometimes students just have to approach a subject they struggle with from a different angle, or use a different thought process. I would also set the student assignments each week to make sure that they are going back and revising the topics. I believe it is important to teach languages in a fun way to capture the student's attention, therefore I try to incorporate interactive activities/games into my lessons to keep the children's minds active and interested.

My name is Adam and I am 23 and recently graduated from the University of Edinburgh with an MA in History. I have studied a variety of topics particularly the past two centuries of British, Russian and American history, but I have also studied Roman, Chinese, and African histories as well as the histories of medicine and science. I am, however, knowledgeable about many other areas of history and able to teach the skills required to study any period.

I achieved an A* and full marks in my final exam of my History A-Level as well as As in Economics and Maths and 10 GCSEs A*-A. As Actor In Residence I worked as a drama teacher, activity leader, LAMDA/Trinity coach, director, producer and I assisted in the day to day running of the 500 seat theatre. I taught 2nd and 3rd Form (Yr 7 & 8) drama using existing schemes of work alongside those I created. I taught over 150 pupils per week and as their only drama teacher I was responsible for their reports, three-weekly grades and parent's evenings. The school were so pleased with my contributions to teaching they offered me twice my teaching hours in my second year. I also team taught Yr 9 lessons and I assisted with directing etc in GCSE and A-Level lessons. Alongside academic teaching I led Drama 'actives' after lessons where I created and lead a one hour drama workshop several times a week. Working at Christ's Hospital also gave me the chance to work in a busy theatre environment combining set design, prop making, theatre maintenance, stage management and front of house management. I also directed and co-directed several shows including 'Anything Goes', 'The Crucible', 'Grim Tales', 'Ernie' Incredible Illuciantions', 'Easy Virtue' and 'The Jungle Book'. I have also experienced all aspects of Boarding School life and pastoral care as 98% of students are full time boarders.

Communication Skills - Working with very young children with no English language

Each Summer I taught English to children aged 7 - 12 from around the world. I lived on site (in a boarding school environment) and I was responsible for teaching, entertaining and caring for the children twenty four hours a day. Having worked for the company for several years I reached the level of Assistant Director and Head of TEFL for the residential course. I was responsible for a team of teaching staff and I ensured they were delivering suitable and stimulating English lessons throughout the course. I also taught a class of my own. As Assistant Director I was a senior part of the management team, ensuring all activity and teaching staff were working happily and correctly. In the absence of the Course Director it was my responsibility alone to ensure the smooth running of our course. I often had to deal with couriers and families and I know how to project a professional, caring, enthusiastic and genuine image. I developed my team work skills, learnt how to thrive under immense pressure and my communication skills were constantly used to their full potential.

During a work placement with the Sheffield based theatre company Point Blank I worked with a partner to devise and deliver a cultural drama workshop. I worked as a mentor for two international students who had travelled to the UK to teach school children about their cultures. I taught the two international students how to deliver a successful drama workshop and I helped them shape their own ideas into an educational and enjoyable drama workshop for Primary School children. Alongside this project I also worked with an English partner to create a cultural workshop for deprived children in the city. I contacted The Sheffield Children's Centre and created a relationship with them enabling us to take our workshop to underprivileged children who had never had the chance to express themselves through drama.

June - September 2006 - The Funzone - Playworker

The Fun Zone provided after-school and summer holiday childcare play schemes for children, aged three to twelve. I would lead activities, play group games, prepare and cook the children's meals, clean the rooms, supervise children and be responsible for groups of children on various outings and trips throughout the summer. I learnt how to work with children and how to work effectively to carry out duties such as cooking and cleaning, while making sure the children in my care were both entertained and safe.

Personal Description:
I am different and kind teaching tutor as well as my responsibilities as a tutor will be to find not only what motivates each student to learn but also what motivates them to misbehave. If we can meet them at that point and take away that motivation, we can go a long way towards a more effective classroom and learning experience.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently studying BSC Business Management with Finance in University at London. I am new tutor so hence I feel that student will able to learn from me if I explain it to them in a respectable manner. Students will need to learn in order to achieve good grades so to do that they must have a positive attitude towards their own learning, attend the sessions on time, improve by practising as much times as possible to get it right.

Tutoring Approach:

I have qualification such GCSE's, A levels and will soon join University in London for degree in BSC Business Management with Finance. I feel that I can achieve and help a student to gain improvements within their grades. My teaching is different as I teach slowly so the student could gain the knowledge and understands it, so hence I teach into steps so the student could learn. No point rushing as this will put stress on the student mind which could be a very concerning issue of health.
(Please Note: you must not force anyone to learn quickly or they will struggle with their studies).

Hi,
I am currently studying Accounting and Finance at Coventry University. I have a great passion for helping others, and have previously helped students in the past. I want to become either a banker, or a teacher, and therefore, I believe that by tutoring others, not only will I be able to help the participant involved, but I can also obtain more experience myself. I'd love to here back from you guys, and hope you all have a wonderful, and knowledgable day.

Teaching Experience:

- Prefect from Upper School - Had to help those with difficulty in Maths, during lunch time breaks.
- University - Every week, a group of students whom are struggling with Economics, Maths, Accounting or Finance will be able to sit down with me, and go through whatever problems they are having.
- I have written blogs in the past, and have achieved an A-Level in English Literature, and therefore, have been able to help others improve their own writing skills.

Tutoring Approach:

In relation to tutoring, I will be extremely attentive, and do my upmost to help. I will not put any unnecessary pressure on the student in relation to his/her studies, and will be willing to take it at a manageable pace, learning wise.
